Amazon.com Review

Providing 8,500 BTU's of cooling power, this energy-efficient air conditioner features "no drip" technology, which is an exclusive process that uses condensation and collected moisture to help cool the air, discharging excess vapor through its 41-inch exhaust hose. The unit is designed with a 24-hour programmable timer, as well as an easy-to-use control panel that incorporates two fan speeds, two air conditioning speeds, as well as "fan only." Setting the unit to "dehumidifier only" allows the built-in dehumidifier to remove up to 60 pints of moisture per day. Its adjustable thermostat can be set to accommodate individual preferences, and unlike central air, the portable air conditioner easily cools where it's needed most. Designed to handle rooms up to approximately 300 square feet, the nice-looking unit can be used almost anywhere, from bedrooms, family rooms, and computer rooms, to wine cellars, garages, and attics. The air conditioner runs quietly due to its high-efficiency rotary compressor and components. Other features include side handles and indoor caster wheels for easy portability, a built-in Freshzone air filtration system, and a window/door bracket for simple installation and exhausting of hot air. The air conditioner measures 31-1/2 by 16-1/3 by 17-4/5 inches, and carries a one-year parts-and-labor warranty and a five-year warranty for the parts on the compressor and sealed system. --Catie Unger ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great product - Performs Well
Dehumidifier works great! When first plugged in, all it did was beep, until I discovered that the small knob that is in back of the collection tray had come off in shipping. Once that was popped back in, the unit works great. The basement is much better. It reduced the total level in just a couple of hours down to a much more comfortable/healthy level.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Product
Very pleased with DDE40E Dehumidifier. Seems to be very efficent in keeping humidity in my 25ft x 25ft previously very damp basement at desired level.

5-0 out of 5 stars COOL
I live in New Orleans and its as hot and muggy as anywhere here. I recently purchased this humidifier and it has changed my life dramaticaly. i no longer wake up in the morning in the swamp that i used to call my bedroom! This dehumidifer was a great purchase because it allows the air in my room to get recirculated/filtered every 10 minutes or so. In addition you can't even notice the machine its so quiet! I reccomend this to anyone.

3-0 out of 5 stars Loud Motor...
All the features listed above are true to form for this machine. However, the big disappointment is how loud the unit is! Picture living with a hair dryer on all the time... not good. Loudness aside, it does do a great job. Living in the midwest, I would opt for the 60-pint size- I am emptying the unit almost every 8 hours. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars DeLonghi Air Products in General
We've had the model, 250, 260 and now the 360 (as a warrantied replacement for the 260). If we weren't so desperate, we'd not have bought this product. The 1st one we ever got worked pretty well for about 3 years/hot seasons, but the 2nd, 3rd (haven't tried the 4th one yet) leaked like crazy and shut off, when as the other review said, the hose was installed as directed. If you have money to burn, this product is fine....

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Happy
I did order the PAC-360 and was disappointed. Now, this may all be due to a defective unit, or not.

I got the unit for my basement office and the exhaust hose didn't reach. I was able to fashion an extension with a dryer exhaust hose. Well, after hooking everything up and venting the hose thru my basement window, it came to life. It takes about 5 to 10 min. to start cooling. Also, you'll need to fill an internal tank with water to get max cooling. Note, the instructions state that you'll need to fill up the water tank every 7-8 hours for max effect. Now, after running for 15 minutes the alert light flashes and the Delonghi goes into Fan only mode. The manual reports there is an obstruction in the exhaust hose. No way. Checked it 5 times and all is clear.

Well, I might have a bad unit that can be replaced, but I'm going to return it. For the price, I expected better. The controls are cheap push buttons and not the electronic ones you find all most all a/c now-a-days. Also, when the compressor kicks in, it's really loud. For the price of this unit, I don't think it's worth it

Again, this is my experience. I spoke to my neighbor who got one for his daughter and she's very happy with it. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous looking addition to room, but weak cooling ability
If only this gorgeous looking air conditioner could really cool a room!! I am so in love with the stunning sleek design and shiny bright white color. Very simple and professional looking. Sturdy build. Not cheap looking, like others I have seen at Home Depot and Sam's Club.

I bought this for my apartment. It has 8500 BTU. I planned to use it in the living room (13x15 or 208 square feet) during the day, and then the bedroom at night (a bit smaller). I opened the package immediately the night I brought it home, but once I turned the power on for the first time, I was surprised that high power, turned to be little more than a feeble blowing of air. This weak fan, does not allow any of the cold air to actually push out of the unit and cool the room!!! Even if you stood 2 feet from it, it barely blew on you!!! Who would engineer such a thing?

The real test was the next day, when temperatures outside soared to 93 degrees. My unit could not manage to make the room cooler than 88 degrees for the entire day! I decided to give it another day (maybe it need to be broken in, I thought), but again it was did the same thing.

So disappointing that such a sleek looking and digital panneled portable a/c could disappoint like this. I read the entire manual, hooked it up properly and even called the company, Kenwood. Kenwood didn't really care. They told me it is discontinued and to just return it!!

With all the terribly ugly looking portable units out there, I had really wanted this to be my new a/c, but I will have to look elsewhere, and this time for something having perhaps 12000 BTU and a fan that blows like a tornado! Please, someone, design a beautiful looking portable a/c for far under $600 that works! What a pain. I hate the thought of lugging this 80 plus pound machine back to the store.

4-0 out of 5 stars Kenwood air conditioner
I bought this unit as an open box buy. It cools off 4 rooms wonderfully. I was happy to be able to download the manual off of amazon's website.

I have not been happy with Kenwood's customer service. I had contacted Kenwood several times via email in order to order parts that were missing (because I bought it as an open box item) and to receive a manual but had no success. My husband ended up making the window accessory that was missing and I ended up downloading the manual from amazon.com.

Thanks guys!

The portable air conditioner was definitely worth my money. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars DOA, no support from DeLonghi
My unit was DOA. There was no cooling, only the fan. I received no help whatsoever from my seller (I did NOT order through Amazon, please note, so don't blame them) or, most particularly, from DeLonghi. I have never dealt with a more customer un-friendly company. There was absolutely no attempt to take responsibility, to offer to effect repairs, or even to mediate with the seller. If anything goes wrong, don't expect DeLonghi to help. You are on your own.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cool
My house has air conditioning, but it's not quite enough to cool the entire place on a sunny California day. In particular, my upstairs office reaches 82-84 degrees F with the A/C running. That's nice for a day at the beach, but annoying if you're trying to concentrate on work without dozing off.

After doing some research on the web I settled on the PAC-260. 9000 BTUs seemed about right, though when it comes to air conditioning it's rare to over-estimate the power required. In my case the office is 400sq.ft., has a peaked ceiling, and a doorway with no door, so cooling the entire room wasn't really an option. As with the air conditioners in many cars, though, the trick is to have cold air blowing on you rather than turning the entire room into a refrigerator.

The PAC-260 has behaved as expected. It's about as loud as a fan on full blast sitting next to a refrigerator (which, in a sense, is what it is). It doesn't chill the room, but it usually manages to keep it around 76-78F, and directing the air at my workstation keeps me comfortable.

The "dripless" design is nifty. No water buckets, and it doesn't seem to be spitting anything out the window. The noise outside (from hot air blowing out of the exhaust tube) is about the same as my clothes dryer makes.

Power consumption is 7.6A, or about 900W according to my power meter. I was able to run two full computer systems and a printer on the same circuit without tripping the 15A breaker.

What's not to like? The user manual is poorly written and incomplete. I still haven't figured out what one of the accessories does (looks like an end cap, but it doesn't fit on anything). The 3M disposable filter is nice, though it doesn't look like you can buy replacement filters from anywhere except direct from DeLonghi. The exhaust tube is poorly insulated and gets pretty warm, so wrapping a little insulation around it may improve the overall cooling by a small amount. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Effectively handling room sizes up to 2,900 square feet, this fully portable, 50-pint-capacity dehumidifier features durable castor wheels that make it easy to move from room to room. Designed to function at temperatures as low as 44 degrees F, the unit is ideal for use in the basement, but is effective in the living room, bedroom, office, or wherever excess humidity is present. Electronic, soft-touch controls with LCD digital display make the functions of the unit easy to set and read, and its adjustable electronic humidistat allows for accurately regulating humidity levels according to personal preference. The two systems for collecting condensation include either discharging moisture continuously through the connector hose or collecting moisture in the large tank. An indicator light illuminates when the tank is full, while automatic overflow protection turns the dehumidifier off until the water bucket is emptied. Its air-filtration technology includes a permanent, washable air-filter that traps bothersome airborne particles and extends the life of the unit. For summer ventilation, there's a fan-only function with two separate fan speeds. Designed and engineered in Italy, the unit measures 12-3/5 by 13-1/5 by 21 inches.--Catie Unger ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

The Pinguino portable air conditioner by DeLonghi adds quiet, cool comfort to any space--an office, bedroom, living room, garage, small apartment, or particular zone in a large room--and saves energy by cooling only when needed. Simply attach the exhaust hose to vent warm, moist air out a window, plug in, and the unit is ready to go. Water added to the plastic bucket improves efficiency and provides a blast of super-cool air when the Cool-Jet button is pushed. A clear plastic lid covers the control panel, which features a three-speed fan, two air conditioning settings, a 24-hour programmable timer, and an adjustable thermostat. Meaning ‘penguin’ in Italian, the Pinguino has the sleek, engaging look of its namesake and fits any decor, rolling easily on castors. The Pinguino can be used year-round as a fan and dehumidifier, and can reduce mold and bacteria in the air with its unique 3M Filtrete electrostatic anti-bacterial filtration system. --Ann Bieri ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Product flaw
After comparing multiple products from several different sellers, this seemed like the ideal choice. When the item arrived (via UPS), the box was pretty beaten up. When unpacked, it seemed fine and worked on the regular setting. However when I added the gallons of water it requires for high-effificiency cooling, the water leaked all over my floor within a few minutes. After closer examination, I found a cracked part in the base. Amazon promptly sent a replacement (via FedEx). The box was in much better shape this time, but I immediately examined the interior of the unit. Again, the exact same piece of plastic had broken leaving a jagged edge. Apparently, this is a weak spot that snaps somewhere in transit.
The saving grace of this transaction was that Amazon responded quickly and efficiently to resolve my problems.

1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid This Product
My experience with this product is totally unsatisfactory since purchase in early summer. Out of the box it was defective, as it leaked water. Following instructions I returned it to an authorized service rep. rather than return it to Amazon.com as I was informed that it was an easy fix. Weeks later and after many calls, I was informed that DeLonghi changed its parts agent, and they could not find the parts! Of course 30 days had past so Amazon would not accept a return. The service agent instructed me to return it to the manufacturer. I did ($84). A month later, no response nor satisfaction from the manufacturer regarding repair, replacement, and no satisfactin from Amazon for refund. Conclusion: stay away from Delonghi products until they have their act together.

4-0 out of 5 stars It does what it advertises
It's quiet, it cools a room very quickly. You do need a lot of room for this unit, approx 30" high, 25" wide and 15" deep. It is heavy and bulky. The wheels help but it would be too hard to move it up any steps. It makes a slight gurgling sound which is not bothersome, almost like a water fountain.
You want to make sure blue goes with your decor because there's no hiding this unit.
It would be perfect if it was at least one third smaller and came in other colors.

1-0 out of 5 stars Product Misrepresented
As a very old customer of Amazon who values everything we ever bought on line, I have do be frank about the Delonghi PAC600T Pinguino Water-to-Air Portable Air Conditioner. This unit looks much better than it is.

However, the real problem is the gross misrepresentation about the performance and "convenience" of the unit. Delonghi says that there are no water tanks to empty, but obscures the fact that a water tank must be filled once or twice a day to get even minimal results. The unit "kicks out" at the slightest disturbance; its engineering requires the owner constantly to attend the unit for it to yield any cool, much less cold air. "Semi-permanent" installation is offered, but the unit will never run effectively unless permanently installed. This defeats its "portability". In all respects, this product is a failure and its characterization on the web is both false and deceptive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Looks cool and really works
...The Delonghi Water-to-Air Portable Air conditioner is a great purchase. It is the second portable air conditioner I own, and it is the best. Quiet, efficient, easy to move, and easy to use... these are the things that make this unit superior to my cheapie. It works with or without water when the outside temperature is below ninety, thus it stays on even when out of water. Cheapie turns off once it fills with water, so if you forget to empty it, forget about cooling from cheapie. Penguino works no matter what and it is very easy to fill. Stylish and attractive, effective and efficient, I can't say enough about the Delonghi Penguino. It costs a lot, but I can say from experience, it is worth it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Buy!!!!
I bought this about a half a year ago and have never looked back; This was one of the greatest purchasers I have made. I am from the south were it is dusty, hot, and muggy. This porduct has faced the toughest conditions and has come out victorious on the end. i dont know why other people have given this a bad review. This dehumidifer is much quieter than most others and most importantly, doe swhat its supposed to . not to mention this classy design. It fits easily into any room in my house and i serves many purposes. I reccomend this to any especially with pets or allergies.

1-0 out of 5 stars Looks nice but poor quality control
The first DeLonghi 30-pint unit I received from Amazon looked great but did not function properly; the cooling unit that removes water from the air didn't work. I returned the unit for an exchange. (Amazon gets five stars for their excellent return process). The second unit arrived in good condition and worked for about 2 minutes before the compressor in the cooling unit stopped, never to start again. I tested the unit in an 80 degree bathroom at 100 percent humidity and it did not remove a drop of water from the air. The literature with the unit does not provide any help on this type of malfunction, but does give a Web site address (www.delonghi.com). The Web site had great graphics but no useful information. A note to the company asking if there was any way to solve the problem elicited a recommendation to return the unit.

The DDH30 dehumidifier appears well-made in other respects, but clearly there is a quality control problem with the refrigeration unit, or it is easily damaged during shipment. It appears impossible for a homeowner to open the unit to do any minor repairs, so the only alternative is to return units that don't work. An electrical schematic is located behind the removable water bucket, but isn't very helpful because there isn't any easy way to access the unit's innards. I notice that the controls for the DDH30 are more primitive than the larger models. Perhaps those more sophisticated units are more reliable, but I'm not taking the chance...

In my experience, the DDH30 dehumidifier -- like the DeLonghi web site -- looks great but isn't very useful. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Fully portable on sturdy casters and operating on ordinary,110-volt household current, this air conditioner cools a room up to 16by 16 feet (with an 8-foot ceiling) by exhausting warm, humid air bymeans of a flexible 51-inch hose. It comes with an adjustable 4-footwindow bracket that the hose fits through. Or the hose can be placed ina 3-1/2-inch-diameter hole in a door, wall, or ceiling (bracketincluded). The air conditioner is energy efficient because it operatesentirely inside--unlike a window air conditioner, which uses hot and/orhumid outside air to cool its condenser. Filled with water, it featuresa "Super Cool" setting for operating at its full 8,500-Btu capacity for8 hours, and it operates indefinitely at 88 percent (or 7,500 Btu) ofcapacity even when it's dry. It has a two-speed fan and can be left onaround the clock thanks to an electronic thermostat that turns the uniton and off to maintain a selected comfort level and to a 24-hour timerthat can be programmed to turn the unit on and off at selected times. To dehumidify a room, the unit collects about 51 pints of moisture fromthe air in 24 hours. In a patented process, it then employs thatmoisture to enhance the cooling cycle, exhausting excess through thehose and eliminating the need to empty a water-condensation receptacle.(The unit can be operated as a dehumidifier only.)

The unit measures 22 inches wide, 28-3/4 inches high, and 16-3/8 inchesdeep and weighs 97 pounds. It can be moved from room to room orinstalled semi-permanently. (Installation kit included.) Hand gripsmake it easy to move. Ruggedly constructed, it has a metal cabinet, copper piping, and a first-rate finned evaporator. The cabinet is fullyinsulated so the unit operates exceptionally quietly. Two antibacterialfilters collect dust particles and prevent bacteria buildup. To preventfreezing, the unit shuts off automatically when the temperature dropstoo low. Made it Italy, it carries a one-year parts-and-labor warrantyagainst defects, with the warranty extending to three years for thesealed system of compressor, evaporator, condenser, andfactory-connected refrigerant tubing. --Fred Brack ... 3-0 out of 5 stars So-so
Cool well and efficiently; I've used one for three years and never had any of the scary problems other reviewers have reported. BUT, it it is loud, big, and refilling the water container is a pain (though you can operate (less well) without it.) I would recommend a window mounted device instead, unless you need one of two things: portability (no complicated window installation necessary,) or use in a room that only has windows that open outwards (the type you can't install a window AC in.)

1-0 out of 5 stars Geez, you guys
Whatever happened to education in elementary physics in this country??? When an air conditioner operates, where ELSE does it dump heat than outside the area being cooled??? Anyone conversant with even the simplest concepts of physics should recognize the hogwash of Amazon's editorial blurb for what it is --- HOGWASH.

1-0 out of 5 stars More Heat, Less Cool
I bought one of these a few years ago and couldn't wait to return it. When you have an AC unit in a room, it generates heat -- there's a reason that a window unit hangs *outside* the room. There is heat dissipation along the exhaust hose also, and at the window: if your window has 2 sections, the heat can rise just outside the lower section, and re-enter at the window dividers. At least, understand that a 10000 BTU unit in the room does not equal the same outside the room, because the room is not insulated from the machine. I had this unit in a small bedroom -- maybe it was windy in there, but it really wasn't any cooler. The unit did act as a dehumidifier, and required a fair amount of emptying. Anyways, don't, don't buy this thing -- it does nothing, and it's expensive.

1-0 out of 5 stars Leaks water!!!
Within 30 days of periodic use, this unit has leaked water, thoroughly soaking the oriental rug on which it was placed. Further, the water soaked through from the second floor to the first and dripped on our leather chair. I have followed all installation and use instructions to the letter. The included Service Manual from DeLonghi provides no "troubleshooting" advice only a State listing of authorized service centers--of course this happens on the weekend.
This disappointment comes on the heels of a 2 week delivery time using the "Free Super Saver" shipping.
Overall, highly disappointed with this purchase and trying to return the item.

3-0 out of 5 stars Works well, but way too expensive
Portable air conditioners are popular in parts of Europe and Asia but never here in the States. They differ from our traditional window- or wall-mounted ACs in that they reside entirely inside, hence draw air from inside the room. There's an exhaust hose that connects to the outside. The upshot is they are energy efficient and work well, but for mysterious reasons they are really expensive. Probably because they are niche markets. DeLonghi is the best brand in this category and the EER rating on this 10,000 BTU unit is high while you can still run it on regular 110V, no need for converting to 220V as with older 10,000+ BTU ACs. The DeLonghi appears to be well built and it has four wheels so you can move it around. But the high price... If it were less than half of that, I think everyone should get one. ... Read more

Providing 13,000 BTU's of cooling power, this energy-efficient air conditioner features "no drip" technology, which is an exclusive process that uses condensation and collected moisture to help cool the air, discharging excess vapor through the exhaust hose. The unit is designed with a 24-hour programmable timer and convenient bypass function, as well as an easy-to-use control panel that incorporates an "on/off" switch and two fan speeds. Its built-in dehumidifier is ideal for basements, garages, or wherever there's excess water in the air, removing up to 88-3/4 pints of moisture per day. Its adjustable thermostat can be set to accommodate individual preferences, and unlike central air, the portable air conditioner easily cools specifically where it's needed most. Its high-efficiency compressor and components provide quiet operation, and due to an automatic safety device, the rotary compressor is protected when the unit is switched on immediately after being switched off. Side carrying handles and durable caster wheels make this unit conveniently portable, while the easy-to-connect hose between the indoor and outdoor unit allows for fast installation. Other features include an extra-large professional castor kit, a built-in Freshzone air filtration system, and a window/door bracket for simple installation and exhausting of hot air. Designed and engineered in Italy, this portable air conditioner measures 16-1/7 by 22 by 28-3/4 inches indoor and 10-1/4 by 18-8/9 by 22-4/9 inches outdoor. --Catie Unger ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Designed and engineered in Italy, this quiet, 600-watt, 40-pint-capacity dehumidifier features two systems for collecting condensation. Moisture can either be collected in the large tank or it can be discharged continuously through the connector hose. Its patented heavy-duty pump system automatically removes moisture from the collection tank so there's no need for emptying the bucket. Just attach the included 16-foot hose, and the unit's moisture can be easily drained through a window. For added safety, its tank-control system (TCS) prevents water overflow due to a full, improperly positioned, or missing tank, or even if the optional connector hose is blocked. Its permanent, washable filter traps dust particles and extends the life of the unit, while its patented high-efficiency fin system saves energy and improves the dehumidification process. A unique lateral intake/outtake grille design and convenient self-contained construction give a wide range of options for positioning the unit. Designed to function in temperatures as low as 44 degrees F, this dehumidifier is ideal for use in the basement, but is effective wherever excess humidity is present and can handle rooms up to 2,200 square feet. Durable castor wheels and measuring only 17-1/4 by 13 by 22-7/8 inches allow for this fully portable unit to easy be moved from room to room. --Catie Unger ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Portable Air Conditioner
We really needed something fast for our bedroom. This portable unit is great. We have a large room, so a 7500 btu unit is a little small. None the less, it does the trick. It's a really nice looking unit - almost like a piece of furniture; much nicer than its picture shows. It's reasonably quiet & we love the timer. The only setback is that it really should have a longer vent hose. Because it's so short, we vented it thru our attic that is also vented. We couldn't make it to the window. I agree with another review that the hose needs to be insulated which we will do this weekend. But this unit is well worth the money & is put together VERY well. It's a sturdy unit & first class. Thanks.

Set-up took only 5 minutes in my attic bedroom. The exhaust tube/window sash adaptor was simple to install, but I would suggest you plan to supplement its temporary installation with some weather-stripping.

This rolling unit is solid, and the controls are convenient and easy to operate. Adequately cooled a 90 degree room in about 2 hours and kept it comfortable afterwards. Adjustment of the thermostat is simple (twist a knob).

I agree with another reviewer that the exhaust tube gets warm, but this is to be expected given the unit's mechanism of action. I don't see it as an issue.

The enclosed instruction manual is sparse but covers the basics. Reads like a translation from Italian (which it is).

The unit is also a little louder than I expected based on previous reviews, but I'm very pleased overall. It has made an unusable room very comfortable!

5-0 out of 5 stars DeLonghi PAC210 Review
This unit works well enough and the layout and features suggest that some careful design went into this unit. The buttons are guarded by posts and the thermostat control is recessed to guard it, yet is very accessible by a thumbwheel in a recessed area. The timer appears to be a precision element driven by a synchronous clock motor for an easy to understand setting. A cover nicely slides over it to protect it from dust and damage.

The intake for the cooling coils has a nice filter that fits snuggly to prevent dirty air from bypassing it. It is pretty quiet for a unit with all the working parts inside the room. The hose and window bracket worked perfectly for my horizontally sliding window.

The cooling effect is about what you would expect from a 7,500 BTU/hr unit operated with the noted inefficiencies. One inefficiency, though minor, is the hot ununsulated flexible hose that expels the heated air. It is like a radiator. I positioned the unit to be as close to the window as possible for shortest hose extention. Applying wrap-around insulation will address this detail.

After many hours of operation, the lower steel panels are only slightly above room temperature, indicating that the hot components are well insulated.

The finish level and physical contours, along with the thoughtful handling of the controls and markings, make this a nice unit. The lifting handles are properly contoured and fit very well into the steel panels, allowing me to lift this unit 2 stories.

This unit takes room air for cooling the hot coils and expels though the single hose. As such, this unit will cause the room to pull in air from other rooms or leakages to make up for the air forced to the outside. This design, in effect, has the equivalent of an air exchanger active even if via a different manner from normal A/Cs. Better is if the condenser coils are larger to allow proper cooling using another hose to take cooling air from the outside air as with regular air conditioners to avoid air mixing and increase cooling. This unit is best used when operated in a home in which other rooms are already cooled.

All things considered, this is a great quality unit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent portable cooling
This air conditioner is great for cooling that one room in your place that just won't stay as cool as the rest of the rooms. No need to empty condensation buckets as this air conditioner exhausts all condensation out with the warm air unlike any other brand of portable airconditioner. This unit is quiet enough to have in a room where you want to read or watch tv, I am very satisfied with this unit. ... Read more
