Equipped with a UV germicidal light to help kill airborne microorganisms and a three-speed fan to continuously circulate air through two filters, this portable air purifier removes smoke, pollen, dust, animal dander, dust mites, molds, bacteria, viruses, and odors. Helpful for asthmatics, allergy sufferers, and cold/flu patients, the purifier contains a true HEPA filter that is at least 99.97 percent effective at trapping tiny particles; a prefilter reduces odors. A digital readout displays air quality (good, fair, or poor), and the fan can be set to automatically adjust speed according to air-quality needs. Digital indicators show when filters need replacing. The purifier measures 19-1/2 by 14 by 8-1/4 inches and is recommended for rooms up to 350 square feet. Filter replacement is simple: open front, remove prefilter and/or HEPA filter, position new filter(s), and close. The purifier carries a three-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Quiter than Blueair
I have severe asthma and have been VERY pleased with the 04163 Hamilton Beach Air Purifier. I'm not sure what planet the negative reveiwers are from but I investigated all the options regardless of price. I went by Sears and looked at the Kenmore. The reviewer who liked it must work for Sears because it isn't even in the same ballpark as the Hamilton Beach. I briefly bought and returned a BlueAir which cost twice as much and is supposed to be the quietest. Instead it has an irritating high pitched whine that oscillates and would be better utilized as a torture device. The Hamilton Beach, on the other hand, is not only quiet, but the white noise it makes is actually soporific. I prefer to sleep with it on and it runs 24/7. I use to have a constant problem with mold in my master bathroom, but the Ultraviolet light on the Hamilton Beach has kept it from returning. The other day I chased my golden retriever into the bedroom with ear cleaner and to my surprise the automatic fan smelled it, and dealt with it, turning the fan on automatically to a higher setting briefly. I couldn't even smell it myself. To describe it's air cleaing capability, I will just end by saying this, the reason I am on this site is I am getting ready to buy a second Hamilton Beach for my office.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good, For Its Price and Intended Purpose
Haven't had it for very long, just a couple of months, but I like it. I had a Honeywell room unit that was okay, but I had no idea how well it was working. With the HB, the air sensor gives you some idea of how well it's working. When first hooked up, the HB showed that the Honeywell was doing a good job of cleaning. At first, I thought maybe I should have just stayed with the Honeywell. I had initially stayed away from using the UV light, after reading that it didn't do anything. Wrong. When I finally switched on the UV light, a lot of my nighttime nasal congestion disappeared. That feature, plus the sensor, makes this model a 4- rather than 3-star product. (Keep in mind tthat this is a one-room unit and not intended for people with severe allergies.)

Seems to have a small but noticeable effect on keeping dust down.

Whisper Quiet ... isn't. But it's no louder than the Honeywell. I also selected Super Saver shipping, saved some money, and got it in five business days. If this unit lasts another year without problems, I'll buy another for another room in my house.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works great but noisy
I have been using this product for a year now with great results. It really does seem to clean the air and has improved my allergies. The filters are extremely easy to replace when necessary. My only complaint is that it is noisy, too noisy for me to use when I am sleeping.

5-0 out of 5 stars Work great
My room used to be very dusty but since I purchased this product, the room is much cleaner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Impressed
It has been 3 months since I received the air purifier, one word, WOW.

For over 3 years, I have suffered from postnasal drip and congestion every morning due to minor dust allergies. I have noticed this has progressively gotten worse over this period. In an effort to remedy this situation, I was more diligent in dusting and cleaning my apartment and I visited my doctor a few times over the past few years. I was prescribed allergy pills and steroids in an effort to cure me, nothing worked.

I finally decided to buy an air purifier as general means of breathing cleaner air. I selected this one based on the reviews and comments others reported and was not disappointed. Literally, the first night I used the purifier, it cured my postnasal drip problem. The morning after, my nasal passage was clear and dry. I could breathe!!! Now every night before bed, I turn on my purifier and every morning now, I wake up clear and congestion free. I have even noticed when I am away from my purifier/apartment, the congestion returns.

Now to review the product itself... I must say the gadget-lover in me, opted for the UV light and digital readout of this particular model. Honestly, I probably could have done without the UV light and digital readout. There have been nights where I forgot to turn on the UV light and still woke up fine, perhaps it may be more effective in the winter when there are more germs flying around. The only semi-annoying thing is the device does not remember the UV setting when you turn it off. With the digital readout, I think I could have done without it. As I said, I love gadgets and features like this. However, it does work though. For example, when I open my window, it quickly determines the air is much dirtier and reacts accordingly. How smart!!!

People have noted that the purifier is very noisy. I think this is a purely subjective matter. I live in NYC on a ninth floor apartment off the East River on the FDR Drive. I am accustom to a certain amount of noise. I am subject to varying levels of car and wind noise 24/7. Concerning the purifier, I typically run it at low speed each night (I only run it at night). It is positioned at the foot of my bed. IMHO, using the lowest speed is no noisier than running an air conditioner at low speed. After a couple nights, it became white noise and is hardly noticeable to me now.

As far as size goes, I was a bit surprised how large it is but considering the size of the HEPA filter. It is not that bad in comparison. I am sure the larger size helps in better coverage of a large sized room.

The only negative I could come up with is the price (I paid about $140) but, given my success with the purifier, I cannot really claim this as a real fault. After 3 months, I am still on the original HEPA filter. The carbon filter I actually rinsed off the dust with some running water a couple times. It is a bit of a messy process but seems effective. I recently ran the built-in test on the filters and it passed. The replacement HEPA filter is a bit pricey; I think it should cost a lot less. They run about $40 to $50 each while the replacement carbon filters run three for $10.

Overall, I am very, very, very happy with my purchase. The money I paid was worth it. I can breathe!!! However, if can settle for the smaller size and/or without the digital readout, just get a lower-end model which sells for much less. The most important feature is the HEPA filter. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Silent night
We live in Hawaii and like many people here suffer terribly from allergies, especially when the Kona winds are blowing from the big island, bringing the dreaded "vog" (volcano smog) with them. On top of that, my husband is allergic to our two beloved cats (the cats and I decided to keep him anyway) and I was allergic to his subsequent noisy snoring, so I purchased this item. I must admit I thought it might wind up just being another gadget lying around the house, but I am very pleased to report that it is an extremely useful device that has made our sleep significantly more peaceful and restful. We keep it on automatic most of the time; it's a tad noisy at night if it kicks into high gear, so occasionally we switch it onto whisper quiet before we sleep. I'm so glad we bought it, and I'd recommend it to anyone who suffers from allergies or has pets that they don't want to banish from the house. I also like the streamlined design of the Hamilton Beach model, the others looked too heavy and obtrusive.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great purifier for the price!
I recently purchased this unit with hopes of reducing dust and other particulates in my bedroom. For reference, I live in Manhattan where the air quality is sometimes not the greatest.

Summary: Great unit for the price. Super ergonomics and clear displays make this unit a winner!

Positive aspects

1. Inexpensive price. Good value for the buck compared with many other filters on the market.

2. Good ergonomics. I actually liked the fact that you can monitor filter lifespan and air quality on a clear to read LCD. You can also see if the anti-germ UV bulb is working by seeing a glow out of a darkly tinted (for safety!) window on top.

3. Easy to set up! I had this puppy up and running in under 10 minutes. Pretty foolproof installation makes this one a keeper.

4. Great filtering technology. The unit can automatically adjust to the air quality in your room. Very nice! Also, I noticed a change in the air quality within 1 hour of operation.

5. Small form factor. After all, no one wants a huge unit in their bedroom!

Some minor complaints:

1. Power cord. I wish the power cord were a bit longer so that I could have greater placement flexability. Not a big deal.

2. UV bulb. Replacing the UV germicidal bulb is tad bit expensive. Again, not a big deal.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great, but doesn't seem to last
This air cleaner has to be one of the coolest air cleaners out there. So far, I have not seen any in this price range that automatically adjust to the air quality. I like that it comes with a guage to let me know when I need to change the hepa filter. The gauge and a cleaner for the air sensor each have a special storage spot, so they don't get lost.

The one I have now is the second one I have bought, but the third one that I have had.

The first one worked for about 9 months, then the motor started to squeak. I called Hamilton Beach, and they asked me to send it in for warranty service. I got a brand new one back. I was about to have to change the filter in mine, so it worked out kinda nice. The new unit lasted about a year, then the motor just stopped. It was out of warranty by this point, so I went out and bought another.

Now I have had my third unit for about 6 months, and the motor died again, so I am going to have to call Hamilton Beach again, and probably ship it out.

I would think the motors should outlast the HEPA filter, but it hasn't been the case. I am a smoker, so it cycles from low to high quite often, but I wouldn't think that should be a problem.

When this filter works, it works great.... It helps keep my place from stinking from the smoke, and helps my allergies. The customer service has been great so far too. I just wish the unit would last.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product
I bought this machine to help me with my allergies. It has worked tremendously and I highly recommend it. Running the purifier in the bedroom overnight has allowed me to sleep peacefully. The purifier is also excellent in the kitchen at removing any odors from cooking.
The machine is louder than I would like. On the lowest setting it can still be heard but is tolerable, and after a while you don't notice it. On the highest setting the noise is deafening and forces me to turn it to a lower setting. However, on the highest setting it is very fast and effective at cleaning the air in an entire room.

5-0 out of 5 stars Does it all
This air filter is designed amazingly well. It can even be placed against a wall. The air enters through the front passing through a carbon and hepa filter, then the air exits through the top on its way back out into the room. Before the air exits, it passes by an ultraviolet light which kills mold spores, bacteria & viruses (a must for the au courant hypochondriac). It is very quiet & has a sensor which automatically & temporarily increases the fan speed to clean the excess pollution from the room. It even has a digital display to let you know it's working. This air purifier has everything you need and all for under $150. After owning it for two weeks, I bought a second one. If you have allergies (and even if you don't), buy one and your nose and lungs will most definitely thank you. ... Read more

This top-of-the-line Cool Mist humidifier is a big step up from those old steam-spitting devices. It features a front LCD panel from which you can select the desired humidity. Simply adjust the setting to anywhere between 20 percent and 90 percent (50 percent is recommended for most situations) and set the fan to low, medium, or high. The unit is oval in shape, and because the controls are on one end, it can be operated easily even if placed in a narrow space. (It's 10 inches wide and about 17 inches deep.) The curvy, translucent gray rear tank lifts off easily for refilling, as does the front fan unit for changing or rinsing the drop-in filter. The water tank is dishwasher-safe. --Richard Farr ... 3-0 out of 5 stars I hate changing this filter
Not wanting to go through another winter with dry skin, I decided to look into purchasing a humidifier. After much research, I decided on the Hamilton Beach 05521 TrueAir Cool Mist Humidifier. I have used this humidifier for a few months now and it's hard to tell if the humidifier has helped or not.

My skin is still dry, but I don't think it is AS dry as it would have been. The humidifier runs 24/7 on quiet.

The digital readout is very nice, I can't imagine one of these without a readout. The thing is though, it almost never raises the humidity above 35-40%. I've even let it run on high all day once in awhile, and all that does is use up all the water faster. Even on quiet, I have to fill the tank twice a day. And my wife and I are getting tired of filling up the tank all the time.

The one thing that I really hate about this unit is the filter. It gets really filthy very quickly, even after turning it over every time I fill the tank like the directions say. After about 3-4 weeks it starts smelling pretty bad and needs to be changed. At ten bucks a pop, I would expect the filters to last a lot longer.

If I would have been able to try this unit out for a month before purchasing it, I would have returned it and kept looking around for something else because of the filter. I don't know if all humidifiers go through filters this fast, surely they can't all be this bad, can they?

Other than the filter, it's not a bad unit. And I would definitely recommend getting a unit with a digital readout so you can see what the humidity level is before and after you use it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Performance matches expectation
I bought this humidifier a month ago after much research. So far, it hasn't shown any mechanical trouble. The filter is holding up just fine after 4 weeks, despite daily use. Surely the quality of water in your area dictates how frequently you will need to change the filter. Nevertheless, it is recommended that you flip the filter over (to prolong it's life)when you refill the water. In my case, filter change maybe warranted no sooner than 2-3 months.

The large capacity of the water tank is good enough for 24 hour operation (on quiet setting). I use it all day night long on the low setting and it uses up about half the amount of water in the tank. At first the low setting may seem noisy especially if there is very little ambient noise around you (like when you can hear the wall clocks in your house ticking). But after a few minutes it sounds just like a dull whirring sound that is hardly objectionable. I use it in my bedroom at night and it doesn't disturb my sleep.

It is easy to see the level of water through the tinted tank. The water tank is easily removable when handled vertically. There is no leakage/spilling when you do so. There is a wide fill hole at the bottom of tank for refilling water. There are two problems though with refilling ...firstly the tank is too large to fit under the faucet in the kitchen sink, so you need a jug or hose to fill it up or use the faucet in the bathtub...secondly, the cap on the fill hole is pretty tight (the upside is that it is spill-proof) so I wouldn't recommend the unit for feeble people.

The other part of the unit, housing the motor and fan, comes off easily too. I do wish it had a latch, because you need to be careful not to knock it off when removing the water tank. When the water tank is replaced on the base tray, some water from the container fills up the tray, making a gurgling sound. It makes the same tiny gurgling sound periodically during operation too. This water in the tray is taken up gradually by the filter (which sits under the motorized fan), to generate the humidity when the fan is on.

The digital panel is easy to read. I do not however agree with the humidistat's reading. I have another humidistat in the room that I compare the reading to. The humidifier's reading is always lower, usually by 8 to 10 percent. Setting the desired level of humidity is simple although it can be done only in 5 percent increments. The unit shuts of automatically when the desired hunidity level is reached.

The base is easy to lift if the unit needs to be moved. Of course it is much more convenient to do so after removing the heavy water tank. As long as care is taken not to slant the base tray, there is no leakage or spill.

One point to consider if you are paying heating bills in the winter is that, since this IS a cool-mist himidifier, it will make the room cooler. So you may need to turn up the heat in the room a notch.

Overall, I am very satisfied with the unit's performance and recommend it to any able-bodied adult considering a cool-mist humidifier. To sum up, here are the PROS and CONS:

CONS:
1. Water tank is too large to fit under kitchen faucet
2. Cap on fill hole is tight. Some strength required to turn it
3. Humidistat not accurate
4. Motor unit is not securely latched to base tray to prevent accidentally knocking it off when removing water tank.

PROS:
1. Very good performance
2. Low operating sound on quiet setting
3. No leakage or spilling when handled correctly
4. Portable
5. Dishwasher safe; Easy to clean
6. Desired humidity level can be set manually
7. Automatic shut-off when desired humidity reached

PRO/CON depending on whether you live in hot or cold climate: Makes the room cooler.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good product but needs some improvements
I have had this humidifier for about two months now and have found the following:

PROS:
1.This humidifier works well for me. I keep it in my bedroom and only use it at night and I like the white noise that the quiet setting gives off.
2. It does a fair job.
3. It has a digital readout (very nice feature).
4. It has a large water tank.
5. It is easy to use.
6. I have not had any mechanical problems with it.

CONS:
1. The filters have to be replaced about once a week, otherwise they get moldy and start to smell (and who wants to breathe in mold?)
2. The filters are WAY too expensive. Amazon sells them for seven bucks and this is the cheapest I have found. This is a lot of money to shell out every week.
3. Filters are hard to find. Not many places carry them.
4. The cap on the water tank is VERY hard to open. It takes forever to get it off.

Bottom line, I would not purchase this humidifier again simply because I hate shelling out 28 bucks every month for filters. Even though the cap is hard to get off, it isn't impossible and its something I can live with. Maybe HB will come out with a filter that can be reused by putting it through the dishwasher or something, but until then I would not recommend purchasing this humidifier unless you have a lot of money to put into buying filters. Even though it works well, it just isn't worth it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Design
Out of the box it looked nice but my happiness soon faded. I set it up just like the manual says. When I plugged it in and turned it on nothing happened. I noticed the fan was twitching a little bit so I turned it to "HI". The fan started moving a little and then finally worked it's way up to speed after a few seconds. I figured oh well the thing is new so it was just stuck from being new. It worked ok for a while and then I went out of the house for a couple hours. I got back and what looked like the entire contents of the reservoir had spilled onto my brand new Pergo flooring and expensive raw maple wall trim!!! I now have water under my floor, soaked through my trim and soaked under the wall and into the next room!!! I took it apart looked it over and gave it another try (on a towel in a less new room). Once again it worked well but this time I checked on it every 10 minutes. Once it was about 2/3 empty for some reason it decided to simply empty itself onto whatever it was sitting... PIECE OF CRAP!!! DO NOT BUY!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Impressed!
I have tried many models and I'm satisfied I got the best cool-mist fan unit available. The unit comes in 4 pieces; the large fan unit section that contains the controls, the translucent 3-gallon water container, the bottom tray that both of the previously-mentioned pieces slide upright into and a hidden water reservoir tray inside the bottom tray that's not visible from the product photograph.

As for the main unit, the humidistat works very well. Although I can't comment on someone else's concern about the humidistat not being accurate, in my experience it works very well. When I ratchet it up to a high humidity level, I get lots of moist air. After you change the setting by pressing either the UP or DOWN humidity buttons to increment the humidity level in 5% increments, the display flashes for 3 seconds after which the unit responds (either turns on or off) based on the new setting. It's quick and easy.

In addition to the UP humidity button and DOWN humidity buttons, there's a 4-point switch for OFF/QUIET/MEDIUM/HIGH. The HIGH setting is really good for humidifying multiple rooms and blasts quite a strong swirl of moisture into any room in no time at all. The QUIET setting is remarkably quiet. Although no cool mist-based fan can be SILENT, I am impressed with just how quiet this lowest setting is. I was fine with it right away, and although my wife was cautious, she took to it by the morning and has enjoyed it ever since. For hypersensitive people (like my mom) where any noise would be too much noise, I'm afraid NO cool-mist system will be sufficient. I sleep with the unit on the floor in the same room I am in, slightly below the level of our bed, and a mere 10 feet away and am very pleased with the quiet hum of the lowest setting. Underneath the fan unit resides the filter which is easy to replace and sits almost too easily into a small molded, shaped guide in the bottom tray. New filters are flattened for shipping and need to be reshaped into a cylinder before replacing them - and filters seem to last longer than I expected at 1 filter every 5-6 weeks - even after which they do not look gross, moldy or dirty.

The water container is a smart design. The fill hole is at the bottom of the 3-gallon jug, but seals tightly by way of an integrated plunger built into the wide screw-release fill cap. I haven't had ANY problems with spilling, leakage or difficulty opening the fill cap as at least one other reviewer has mentioned. Since the container faces into a humid environment, it's worthwhile to shake the container once or twice before you carry it across the room to shake any droplets of humidity away. Refills are every two days for me - but we only use this in the evening and sleeping hours, so constant usage would likely require daily refills.

Every once in while, you may hear a slight gurgle as air bubbles float up from the bottom of the container while the humidifier is in use, but this also is hardly noticeable - especially since it is usually quieter than the fan itself on the lowest setting - and flat up impossible to hear if the fan is set to medium or high. This occasional gurgling of air bubbles is infrequent and no distraction at all. Finally, the 3-gallon container is very easy to fill, but because of its depth, you will need to have either a reasonably deep basin kitchen or utility sink or fill the jug up in a bathtub. Either way, 3 gallons of water is easy to heft for an adult, but may be difficult for an elderly parent or friend (consider a smaller capacity unit if this is the case). Carrying is an easy one-handed operation thanks to the white handle built into the top of the jug itself.

The 3 non-motorized plastic pieces can be placed in a dishwasher, but you will need a dishwasher with a fairly deep main section in order for the 3-gallon jug to fit. Consider removing the upper rack (if possible) for smaller dishwashers. If all else fails, the mouth of the jug is fairly wide (5" across), so a petite hand, wrist and arm could reach inside to scrub the unit if that was ever needed (it doesn't seem to get dirty, moldy or gross in the time I've used the unit). For the one piece that cannot be put into the dishwasher, the fan unit is remarkably open with a great deal of free space for cleaning. I have never seen a unit as easy and accessible as this one. Usually I simply throw out humidifiers after a season or two since disassembling them enough to clear every nook and cranny proves not worth the effort. This is the first and only unit where that has not been a problem.

With as many great things I have to say about this unit, I have one exceptionally minor complaint: the two largest units (the water jug and the fan unit) slide too easily away from the base. This is due to the shallow crevice they sit in and the lack of a clip, latch or groove that would otherwise 'lock' the two units into place. This requires the user to slide the jug straight up when removing it for refills - otherwise, you run the risk of knocking the fan unit over and onto the floor. The up-side is that - without a lock or latch to secure these two pieces more tightly, lifting the jug for refills is a one-handed operation.

I hope this detailed description helps you decide to buy this unit. After examining and using many units, I honestly feel this is the best cool-mist, fan-based unit available - and hope these insights help you make a wise choice. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Investment- Does the job WELL....
I spent some time searching around, with my criteria being of course cost-effectiveness, low noise, and mostly the ability to clean the air effectively. I was initially under the impression that the replacement filters would save me a lot *(over previously systems I had owned), but that was not the most important selling point. I am now shopping for filters, and realizing that it is a two-step process... getting both the carbon screen and the entire filter. While I am shopping around for the best deal, I am planning to meanwhile just use the vacumn to prolong the life of the existing carbon screen and filter.... seems to be ok to do. I highly recommend this product.... GREAT UNIT !

5-0 out of 5 stars Hamilton Beach TrueAir HEPA Air Cleaner & Filter
After owning several more expensive HEPA filters over the last 10 years, I have been very impressed with the Hamilton Beach TrueAir Air Cleaner. I throughly researched this unit before purchasing and have been very pleased with its capabilities. It's quiet, the filters are easy to change and find, and its automatic function with the UV light works as expected. It was well worth the investment.

4-0 out of 5 stars clean air at a good price
I reviewed several air purifiers before purchasing the Hamilton Beach 04160 with UV light unit. With all the misleading information on HEPA fitlers, ionic and electrostatic units on the market it can be hard to find exactly what you need. My son has asthma and we all have air borne allergies. Since installation of the unit, in the family room and bed room, the level of dust has decreased and my son has not had an asthmatic attack either. All air purifiers make noise. I give the level of noise a #2 with #1 being very quite. For the price of the unit, price of replacement parts and the quality of performance Hamilton Beach is the one I selected. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprising benefit - quieter!
Ordinarily I would not be particularly excited about odor-removing filters. However, I was surprised after installing my first replacement set of odor filters that my purifier (model 04163) ran much quieter at the lowest speed setting. I'm not entirely sure of the added electrical cost of running these filters (I have pet birds that generate a lot of dust and dander and the filters run 24/7), but it may be that the reduced fan speed to get the same air discharge will save me money. Nice!

3-0 out of 5 stars Expensive
Quiet enough but not particularly affordable. Wish for a generic. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hamilton Beach 04161 Is the Best
I have asthma and the Hamilton Beach 04162 has both my votes. I did a lot of research and intially bought the Blue Air (which I returned the next day). The reviews indicated it was the quitest air purifier. It isn't and it cost 2 and 1/2 times the price of the Hamilton Beach. Although it supposedly has the lowest decibel level (which I do not believe), the BlueAir has an extremely irritating high whine that oscillates irregularly, not to mention an annoying bright blue light. This might be good for torturing someone, but the BlueAir is NOT quiet. The only reason I didn't buy the Hamilton Beach to begin with was because a reviewer said he could not sleep to it. ... The Hamilton Beach on low setting has a white noise effect and I actually prefer to have it on when I sleep. It's sound is soporific. The light from the Infrared can be turned off, but it is not annoying like the light from the BlueAir, so I leave it on. The infrared has elimated the mold problem we were having in our bathroom. It is very attractive, well designed, well built, doesn't way a ton, monitors the air, does not incorporated ozone (thank God), and has enabled me to sleep much better. The air is noticibly cleaner and fresher now. The bottom line is I use to get up frequently at night wiith my asthma and now I don't!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fine Filter, Easy to Use
I own the Hamilton Beach humidifier and have to purchase these from time to time. They last about two or three weeks, and I have the humidifier going constantly. They are very easy to replace - just lift the unit up and drop it in (after taking out the old soggy one first). Not only do these filter the air, they draw the water up out of the pan in the bottom of the unit so can be transferred to the air moving through. If you leave it in too long it will begin to smell, like anything you leave in water too long. I buy four or five at once, so I always have one on hand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Humidifier Filter
A very good filter - easy to install - and lasts for a few weeks with constant use.

Be careful though - make sure you turn it over at least once a day and if you can, leave it to air dry for 2 hrs - it really extends the life of these filters.

Order a couple at once ( save yourself the shipping!!) as amazon can run out in the winter - a definite buy for the HB humidifier

3-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't last long
Works OK, but doesn't last - and costs a bit much.

1-0 out of 5 stars What's Going On?
Hamilton Beach products are a real problem here in San Francisco. No one carries their products and no one carries their replacement parts. I have checked everywhere ... Augh! Fortunately, I can order it from Amazon.com. The problem is that Amazon.com does not maintain inventory so I end up waiting for two weeks. Next time I will plan in advance. Always buy a bunch of these and have them handy. For one thing, they don't last very long. I used one for two weeks, and mold it started to smell bad. As it turns out, mold started to grow on the filter. Maybe there were some mold spores in the house so it may have nothing to do with the filter, but I am not too happy nevertheless.

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly, a filter by which all others must be judged
It's cylindrical shape is pleasing to the eye, it's texture is exquisite and it's taste delights the palette . It is important, though, that you remember to flip it over twice a day, keep the water tank from going dry and clean the tray with vineggar once a week. ... Read more

Equipped with a quiet fan to draw in foul air and expel clean air, thisappliance reduces odors near their source, making it useful in bathrooms and thekitchen and for pets (keep it near the cat's litter box) and tobacco smoke. 5-0 out of 5 stars This product works great
ok - here goes.We moved apartments, and our new apt has one of those exhausts which are under a microwave mounted over the stove.
So the odours when cooking on the front parts of the range enter the room!Yuck! (And this apt complex is a fancy one :( )
Plus - we cook a lot of Indian ,Italian food, and bake stuff.
So - its an odor fest - yuck!!I was not sure, reading some of these reviews, but I bought one ($20 - what did I have to lose)
and I have a elec. socket right next to the cooking range.

Wow! Odors clear up really well - the odors have been cut by 75% (and that's a lot when making sauces and curries)
then, after cooking (we set it to quick clean during cooking),and clean up is done,we keep it all night / all day,on whisper clean ,and the next day-all odors gone!
I loved it ,and bought 2 more for some more rooms of my apt
I guess the trick is to keep it close to the source of odors
it's compact,works wonderfully,and easy to clean/replace filters,and cheap!

5-0 out of 5 stars Seems small, but it's really effective
We have two. One of them runs in the bathroom all the time, and works well to eliminate the musty odor. The other is in the kitchen and while it's running all the time, it's a bit more negligable because there's a lot of air circulation. Best to keep it in a smaller area, or very close to the souce of the odor. I still find that an open bowl of arm & hammer works the best...go figure. But you should see the dust they collect...convinces me that they're doing something good. I recomend.

5-0 out of 5 stars It works!
I was somewhat skeptical since there doesn't seem to be much interest in this product and even a bad review, but for less than $20 it was worth taking a chance. We use ours in the bathroom and it works great. I am now ordering a couple of replacement filters since we have had our unit for over 6 months. For such a small fan, it moves a lot of air and does a fantastic job of removing (and not masking) odor. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing product for the price!
I have been using two of these units for over six months now and they are great. I use one at home with a pet odor filter to reduce the smell coming from my hamster cage and it does an amazing job. When it's running You couldn't tell there was a hamster in the room unless you put your nose up to the cage. The other one I use in an old musty dorm room and it has helped with the smell. The other nice thing is they take a lot of dust out of the air. I vacuum my filters about every month because they get so full of dust. Overall for a $20 product they do a great job and I highly recommend them.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not effective...
I bought this item in hopes of curbing cooking odors in the kitchen. I positioned the odor eliminator withing 3 feet of the stove, well within the recommended 6 foot range, turned it on to the Quick Clean setting, and saw absolutly no reduction in the odor or the smoke that resulted from the frying pan. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars simply to install, life is a bit short
It's pretty easy to install or replace the filter. I'd also recommend that the floor pane gets cleaned at refills to slow the dirts buildup. There were times I flipped a used one by 180 degree to have it start fresh again. After all these tricks, lifetime of one filter is about a month. It appeared to me that the filter also served to expand the wet area, and it lost that function after its mesh material degraded in time. At how much they cost a piece, I'd hope it'll last longer.

2-0 out of 5 stars Short filter life
I had read a lot of reviews for the humidifier before purchasing. I like to humidifier but the filter is expensive and has a short life. I end up using at least one a month. It gets moldy easily even though I change the water every day and follow the cleaning instructions.

1-0 out of 5 stars Life too short
This filter doesn't last as long as I expected, and the humidifier is very very noisy...

3-0 out of 5 stars Grows mold easily, but is a good humidifier
Just a warning to those of you who are like me and aren't the most meticulous keepers of humidifiers: the large filter grows mold very easily. A previous reviewer noted that you should keep the filter wet, but in my experience that just grows mold. I've had to toss 2 filters for that reason. At this point, I've switched to Ultrasonic humidifiers because I'm afraid to use the previously moldy cool mist one (esp with the dusty fan).

2-0 out of 5 stars Needs replacement often
We bought our humidifier two months ago and have already gone through two filters. Despite the fact that we change the water in our humidifier daily, the filter quickly start smelling very moldy. It also seem to disintegrate rather quickly.

I'm happy with the Hamilton Beach humidifier, but wish that the filters lasted a little longer. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I Was Skeptical, But It Works
I was extremely skeptical about whether this thing would work. But I was tired of waking up stuffed up every morning and I had to believe I'd sleep better if I wasn't so stuffy. I have a cat who sleeps at the foot of my bed, and I figured he was a big part of the problem, so I bought it.

I saw drastic improvement after two nights. I was barely stuffed up at all. I set it up to circulate clean air over to me and suck in near the cat, and it worked well. Consumer reports says that you can get a lot of the same benefit from cleaning well and opening the windows, so I tried that the next night. I washed the bedspread, vacuumed, dusted, and opened the windows. I woke up completely cleared up. Better than with this unit.

Now, do I have the time to do all that cleaning every weekend? Nope. So I'm keeping the Hamilton Beach.

People complain about the noise, and it is loud. The "whisper quiet" setting is about as loud as a 19" box fan on medium, so it isn't at all silent. But the noise is pleasantly soothing and I got right to sleep the very first night and it never bothered me. I even thought the cat would be afraid of it, but the first night I set it up on medium and ran it for an hour before bedtime and when I went to look for the cat, he was sleeping in front of it.

I thought I needed the automatic model 4162, and if I was home all day, that's the one I'd get. I live alone and you'd be nuts to leave any appliance on all day unattended, so this one is off when I'm not here. I blast it on high for an hour before bedtime and then run it on low all night. I don't want to be woken by the speed change, so the automatic feature that turns up the fan when the air quality drops wouldn't ever get used around here.

Consumer Reports says the $600 models are great, but for this price point, it really does everything I want it to do, and the anti-mold UV light is just what us foggy San Franciscans need.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mom of asthmatic toddler
After researching various asthma/allergy web-sites, we bought this product for our two year old, who suffers from allergies, mild asthma and other respiratory issues. Quite frankly, we were skeptical as to whether an air purifier would help, and therefore, we did not want to spend a fortune on the products recommended by consumer reports, costing hundreds more. The Hamilton Beach purifier had strong ratings and was reasonably priced, so we decided to give it a try. From night one, we have observed marked improvements in our child's breathing and congestion. Thus far this cold and flu season, she is doing great. The only negatives are the size (a bit bulky) and it is a little noisy ("white noise" similar to a fan). Overall, we are very pleased with this product and recommend it to anyone with allergies/asthma.

4-0 out of 5 stars quick and easy
Easy to put together. Easy to move in room. Can be placed flush against wall with out restricting air flow. Has been helpful with allergies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Decent
Well I don't have it yet, just its "big brother" (04163). It performs fabulously. I ordered this for an area I want to run it at a constant speed in. Personally I don't think the variable speed in the more expensive model is that big of a deal. The high speed is quite noisy, the two lower speeds aren't bad at all. Anyway, the "soon to be in stock" message is still up and was up when I ordered this two days ago.....the item has already shipped even with the supersaver shipping.

1-0 out of 5 stars False advertising
I just recieved my filter. When I ordered it one of the features listed was a "True Hepa Filter". What i was sent was not a "True Hepa Filter". Yes, there is a differance. If you have alergies and are looking for a "True Hepa Filter". DO NOT buy this product. ... Read more

By evaporating 2-1/2 gallons of water into a room over 24 hours(at high speed), this portable humidifier soothes dry throats, preventsdry skin, and alleviates congestion due to colds or allergies. Digitalcontrols adjust the three-speed fan and permit the desired humiditylevel to be set, with an LCD screen displaying both the currenthumidity level and the selected level. A sensor automatically turns theunit off and on to maintain the selected humidity. One speed setting iscalled "quiet" for bedrooms and nurseries. The humidifier uses a largefilter to wick water from the 2-1/2-gallon tank, and the fan thencirculates cool mist throughout the room. Both the tank and the filtertray are dishwasher-safe so it's easy to prevent mold from forming inthem. The wick drops into place, allowing for easy replacement. 5-0 out of 5 stars Very fine mist... best humidifier yet
Our pediatrician sent us out for a humidifier when our infant son developed atopic eczema (a dry-skin condition). We had a horrible time picking one (you might notice that Consumer Reports has NOTHING on the subject) and relied heavily on the reviews here at Amazon.com.

I chose this one because it's not too big (it's the same size overall as some of the one gallon-sized ones at the pharmacy, but holds 2.5 gallons) and has the humidistat control. It has an incredibly fine mist that I can't see (I only run it on the lowest setting) and is very quiet.

It's been in a corner of the baby's room about 2 feet under his toy net and only 6 inches from his changing table for a month or so and neither the stuffed animals above nor the changing table have ever felt damp... but the water disappears and the humidity stays around 50% (which is recommended) even though it's winter and we've had the heater running (which dries out the air).

The tank part fits just fine in my dishwasher (it says put it in there once a week, but I have actually been a little slack on that part) and the filter still looks okay- it's been a month.

Before ordering this humidifier we tried almost every one available at local pharmacies- but they all spewed thick vapor that condensed on everything. I'm allergic to mold and mildew (very likely the baby will be, too) so that's NOT something I wanted in our house.

We also looked at one that "never" needs cleaning or new filters - a Hunter Care-Free... but after reading the manual (which says in small print to clean it based on usage with vinegar, etc. and that the antimicrobial properties advertised don't extend to the water or mist) I decided not to get it.

My aunt has had her Hamilton Beach 05520, which is larger and doesn't have the humidistat, for over a year now, so we assumed this one would have the same very fine mist and would be easy to keep clean... so far it's everything we hoped it'd be.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Humidifier
This is my second winter in Fairbanks, Alaska and the surprisingly powerful static discharges I managed to survive last year due to the extremely dry, cold air had persuaded me to buy a humidifier this year. After the first wave of -20F temperatures rolled into town, I quickly ordered this unit from Amazon. I have had this humidifier for about 3 weeks now and have been satisfied with its performance.

I have it located in my relatively small bedroom which admittedly makes it easy for the unit to quickly reach and maintain my desired humidity level. Because of this, I can leave the unit set on quiet mode while I sleep without it disturbing me. However, this humidifier does produce a noticeable hum especially at the faster fan speeds (which might be required if the unit is used in larger rooms) and this white noise may disturb some people, especially light sleepers. The 2.5 gallon tank is easy to handle and fill and holds plenty of water for my needs. The humidistat feature is great.

The instruction manual lists instructions for daily and weekly maintainance which mostly consists of changing water, cleaning water tank, and inverting wicking filter. But I can assure you that I will not be maintaining this thing on a constant daily basis. Who's got that kind of time or wants that kind of hassle? Weekly, maybe. We'll see how it goes.

The mist it generates is imperceptible to me. Since I like sleeping in cool temps I was worried about the mist condensing on furniture or making my bed sheets damp but this has not happened.

So far, this unit has met all my requirements.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great humidifier and super quiet
I got this humidifier for my newborn's room. Initially he slept in our room so we had the humidifier and it worked great. We noticed the difference almost immediately. Its is quiet enough for us to sleep through it (not sure what others are complaining about.. they must be the lightest sleepers in the world) It was able to maintain 50% humidity in our medium sized room with ease.

When we moved the baby to his own room, we unfortunatley lost the humidifier :-( but let me re-iterate that it is quiet enough that our sensitive baby monitor picks up its sound as a barely audible hum. Now the downside is that in the small baby room, during the cold winter nights, it got a little cold, we were using cold filtered water.. we started putting a little warmer (like normal tap temperature) water and it got better but still cool. Thats the reason why I didn't give this humidifier 5 stars. I didn't like my son's room being a little chilly but thats not that bad of a downside.

Cleaning is a breeze, diswasher it up! We clean it once every 2 weeks and haven't encountered any problems. The filter seems to be working fine after 2+ months.

I love the digital humidity control, it allows for more configuratability for anyones needs. A co-worker of mine bought the same humidifier (at the same time I did) and loves it too.

No water spills, the fine mist works well, the carpet around the humidifier and the rocking chair next to it are NEVER wet.

Note: Our medium size room had a return vent but the small baby room did not.

I would recommend this humidifier for anyone using it in small or medium sized rooms (I can't speak for large rooms)

4-0 out of 5 stars Works well, quiet
I've been using this unit in my bedroom for about 4 months and find that it performs as advertised (humididifies well, easy to fill and maintain). It is not "whisper quiet." However, if you can tolerate a low whir, you should be fine with this noise. On Low speed, it is probably quieter than a desktop fan. High speed is another matter entirely, but I have never had to resort to this setting.

3-0 out of 5 stars It is loud!!
I have been searching QUITE humidifier before purchasing this. The reason that I purchased this model is its "Quite Mist" mode was emphasized to be very quite. However it is still loud. I have to turn it off while sleep. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Appropriate for small spaces contending with offensive odors, Hamilton Beach's compact device plugs into standard receptacles to offer ongoing odor absorption. Powered by a quiet, internal fan, the mechanism pulls in unwanted odor and projects fresh air to eliminate bad scents rather than perfuming over them. With its 6-foot reach, the gadget works best in bathrooms or targeted areas such as near the litter box or diaper pail. If running continuously the included carbon filters last approximately one month but can be stretched to four if only used occasionally. A built-in usage indicator can be set as a reminder making it easy to track and recognize when replacement needs to happen. Measuring 4.0 by 6.0 by 4.0 inches, this product features sturdy plastic construction and comes with a 1-year warranty. -- Amy Arnold ... Read more

This sleek, subtly curvy air filter is a top-of-the-line model rich in features and convenience. Standing 20 inches high, it has a small (14-by-8-inch) footprint. It offers a carbon prefilter, a HEPA 99.97 percent filter, and a UV germicidal light (which you can switch on and off separately) for fighting bacteria. The lozenge-shaped control panel lets you pick a desired setting, and reminds you when either filter needs replacing. The QuickClean and Medium settings are a tad noisy, but "WhisperClean" isn't too fanciful a name for the lowest setting. --Richard Farr ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great buy
I live downstairs in an apartment building, and the quiet setting is great to filter out noise from my upstairs neighbors. Very happy with this purchase

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't get a better deal
I purchased this filter a month ago. I love it. The UV light is awesome for the price and best of all this is a fairly quiet filter. I love the quick clean setting and use it after the dog has been in the room. It has made a huge difference and my husband and I are both sleeping much better. Highly recommended. You can't get a better filter for the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works well, but fan dies after 1 year
I had this unit a little over a year when the fan motor died. Worked perfectly until that happened 24x7. I think for someone who need ocational air cleaning it would be good, but if you want a unit to run 24x7 look elsewhere...

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Machine, but I Had a Problem with It
I really liked this air purifier, and I noticed that it did make a quite noticeable difference in the number and severity of my husband's and my allergy symptoms (despite the fact that neither of us have truly severe allergy problems) when we let it run in the bedroom at night while we slept.
Unfortunately, about nine months after we bought it, despite regularly changing filters, it started to sound as if it was struggling and then is stopped working entirely. Fortunately, it has a three-year warrenty, so the customer service rep is sending me a shipping label, so I can ship it back and have a new one sent to me. I don't know it this is atypical of the product, but it is a bit of a hassle for me. Hopefully, the new one will last longer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Editorial Review is Incorrect
The Editorial Review (above) is incorrect. Model 4160 does not have an automatic setting. If you are interested in that feature, you'll need to upgrade to model 4161. Since the unit is noisy on the higher settings, I would recommend rarely using anything other than the Whisper (somewhat of an exageration) setting anyway. It's built well though, and seems to work. ... Read more

This little electric air cleaner freshens air in a room and eliminates the need forheavy odor-masking fragrances by drawing in unpleasant odors with a quiet fan and thentrapping and neutralizing them in a carbon filter. 5-0 out of 5 stars The ONLY Odor Eliminator We Have Found That WORKS GREAT
We give the Hamilton Beach 04255 TrueAir Plug-Mount Odor Eliminator (WITH three replacement filters) a five-star rating and would rate it higher if more than 5-star ratings were available. Here's our reasons why: 1. No fragrance or oil(s) to be dealt with, so no accidents. It's user-friendly! 2. When it is turned on (and the user has the option of having it run continuously or selectively by manually flipping a switch) it provides a soothing white noise 3. This product actually eliminates odors and makes a difference. We experimented by leaving it off for extended periods and then on for extended periods. Seriously, it's the first time we discovered a relatively low-cost, low-maintenance, totally effective Odor Eliminator that delivers on all counts with the bonus of some soothing white noise. The electric bill did not noticeably increase with frequent usage either -- we recommend this product highly. PLUS: ... has it for the lowest price we could find, we did find the unit being sold for ... (at a huge chainstore) but we could not tell from the packaging if it contained a starter filter or not, however; separately there were 3 types of filters to choose from at this particular chain store: general usage, tobacco-odor specific and pet-odor specific BUT individual filters, while available in two more options, were either near to ... each or slightly over -- while at ... the unit is available at a great price AND includes THREE general usage filters. When we compared prices even with shipping and handling ... came out far, far ahead on value. A great product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good product given the price
I recently purchased this product at a big chain store. I was lucky to receive two True Air mounts for the price of one. I have two Akitas that are crated in the basement along with a cat litter. Given the small space and lack of ventilation, the pet smell was very noticeable. I was not expecting any miracles when I plugged in the True Air, but after a few hours, I noticed the difference in air quality. It was truly amazing. It did not clean all the pet odor out but I would say it made the basement smell 2/3 better prior to NOT using the filter. As for the noise, it is barely noticeable, my ceiling fan and refrigerator makes more noise than the True Air. When using the True Air mount for pets, I would recommend using the pet filter. I used the so-called multi filter that came with the True Air and it did not work as well for pet odors. All in all, I do recommend the True Air Mount -- shop around and you might be lucky to receive two mounts for the price of one!

4-0 out of 5 stars excellent value
I've seen many complaints here about the efficacy of this filter. However, for a very quiet filter, I have found it works great. I have it plugged in right next to the cat box, and while it doesn't immediately eliminate all smells, my room smells much better than it did before. It's not a miracle worker, but for the price, it does a great job. I leave mine running all the time, and it is very quiet, I have no problem sleeping with it on.

5-0 out of 5 stars the little engine that could
I placed it in a very musty, wet, smelly basement closet. It took about 85% of the smell away. I also placed another unit in the dining room of my new house that had a musty type smell from being uninhabited for 2 years, took all the smell away. Filters only need to be replaced every 4 months and are very easy to install, replacement filter cost about $4.00. Very awesome little dude. Would recommend it very highly!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great bargain
This is a great little product. It really eliminates odors, is pretty quiet, can plug into any outlet, costs very little, uses a filter for up to 4 months, and replacement filters are not expensive. It doesn't work very fast though--if you are getting for the bathroom be aware that it will take up to 30 minutes to eliminate the odor. But for the money, this is the best deal out there. ... This basic member of the Hamilton Beach Cool Mist family dispenses with frills such as automatic humidity control but retains a sleek, convenient oval design. Because the controls are on one end of the oval rather than the side, the unit can be operated easily even if placed in a narrow space. (It's 10 inches wide and about 17 inches deep.) The single control knob operates a two-speed fan, which means your only options are Quiet Mist and High settings; the latter is pretty noisy, but the former will probably do the trick in most circumstances. The curvy, translucent gray rear tank lifts off easily for refilling, as does the front fan unit for changing or rinsing the drop-in filter. The water tank is dishwasher-safe. --Richard Farr ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommend
Higly recommend this item. Works well and requires little up-keep.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cost To Operate Is Outrageous
If you want a humidifier that will continue to suck money out of your pocket - this is the machine for you. In a three month period it has been necessary for me to purchase 8 replacement filters (for 2 humidifiers) due to them drying out. That cost has now exceeded the initial purchase price for the orginal product. I would not recommend this item to anyone!

2-0 out of 5 stars Expensive filter and no control
Filter is made of the paper and you have to change often, otherwise it melts down. It is a $6.99 each. Even if you buy a cheap machine, it would turn into expensive machine. If you don't change the filter, this machine mists stinky water. I use a filtered water however, I can smell it. Also, I noticed that...When there is no water, it doesn't stop automatically. It will work forever when you don't stop. For example, the fan inside rotated more than 24 hours without water. I didn't know that. After that, I often check if there is water inside or not. I still have 3 more filters. After I use them, I will trash it. I will not buy it again.

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless and costly machine
DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!

The filters gets moldy in a week or less. This caused you to have to replace them often, which ends up being more than the cost of the machine itself after only 6 replacement filters. I do not find that the humidity in the room is any better than if I did not use this unit at all. I even tried running the unit on high, which is very loud, and it does no better at creating comfort.

I now use a Walgreen's vaporizer and it has worked wonders! No more dry air, nose or throat in the morning.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product
Bought this for the baby's room several months ago. Very quiet on lowest setting and works great to maintain humidity level that you set on the digital screen. Only wish that the digital screen was backlit to see at night.

Previously had a Hunter unit which got very loud after a few weeks. Returned that one and bought this. Been happy ever since.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good product for the money
I bought this humidifier about a year ago and overall have been very pleased with it. My apartment is upwards of 1,000 square feet, which puts it near the top end of the unit's rated capacity. Nonetheless, I have found it more than capable of reaching and maintaining a comfortable humidity level on even the driest days. For large spaces, I recommend running the unit at high until a comfortable humidity is reached, then switching to the quiet setting to maintain that level.

The dishwasher-safe tank and water tray are a snap to clean, and cut down substantially on required maintenance time versus other units. In addition, the large fill hole on the water tank makes refilling a snap.

Another reviwer mentioned a problem with removing the cap to refill the water tank. I have encountered this as well, but have found that the cause is typically a difference in air pressure inside vs. outside the tank. Simply pressing down on the plunger in the center of the water cap before opening resolves the problem quite nicely.

My only complaint about the unit (and the only thing keeping this product from earning 5 stars) revolves around the construction of the water tank itself. About 11 months of moderate-to-heavy use from when I purchased the unit, a hairline crack developed in the tank near the handle. This crack was enough for air to enter in through the top, which in turn allowed too much water to trickle out the bottom into the tray, and overfilled the tray (therefore overflowing the unit). That said, Hamilton Beach stands behind their 3-year warranty, and a few minutes on the phone with customer service (the phone number is printed right on the unit) was all it took to get the ball rolling on a warranty replacement.

2-0 out of 5 stars Noisy and Inefficient
The Hamilton Beach humidifier looked like a great product at first glance - digital humidity controls, easily carried water tank, easy cleaning and disassembly.

Unfortunately, the humidifier did not perform as well as I had hoped. Here's why:
1) In order to maintain more than 25% humidity in my relatively small room, I had to keep the fan speed on high.
2) With the fan speed on anything above "whisper," the humidifier was too noisy to sleep.
3) The wicking filter did not pull water up into the airpath very well - half the filter remained dry during operation.
4) The water reservoir emptied in less than four hours.

This humidifier might be good for someone hoping to increase humidity in a mildly dry environment, but was certainly not adequate for my apartment in New York this past winter.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great until the handle broke
Bought this after trying many others. It is the best balance in terms of sound vs. capacity. Humidistat works well. Really I was very pleased until the handle broke (after ~6 months).

1-0 out of 5 stars Noisy
I bought one of these heaters. It was noisy to begin with but then after a couple of weeks it began making LOTS of noise. We took it back and exchanged it for another one just like the first. It also was very noisy! We ended up exchanging it for a different brand that is MUCH nicer -- not as noisy and heats the room better. ... Read more
