Amazon.com Review

Satisfy a roomful of guests calling for caffeine with the Jura-Capresso Impressa S9, the luxury automobile of home espresso centers. Both beautiful and powerful, the machine grinds, tamps, and brews delicious shots of espresso in 50 seconds and steams or froths milk without a wait. It's built with a dual 1250-watt ThermoBlock heating system, a forceful 18-bar power pump, and a distinctive emphasis on choice. You can steam milk manually or automatically, make drinks with or without foam, and grind for light or dark roasts. You can tailor your drinks' strength (5 to 16 g of coffee), size (1/2 to 16 ounces), and temperature (regular or high). You can even adjust the machine for water hardness, raise and lower the coffee spout, and regulate the separate hot water spigot.

Backing these options is a professional-grade, solid steel conical burr grinder with six settings and an aroma-saving design. A pre-infusion cycle conditions grounds for maximum flavor and the CLARIS water filter removes impurities for improved taste. The S9 also includes an illuminated coffee area, cup-heating deck, separate funnel for pre-ground coffee, and automatic indicators on the water tank, grounds hopper, and filter cartridge. The bean reservoir holds 10 ounces--enough for 40 shots--and the water tank holds 96 ounces. The unit also features auto shut-off, auto-on, self-rinse, and self-cleaning. The programmable control panel uses a two-line display with simple instructions in seven languages.

With its dual-tone bronze finish and chrome accents, the Impressa S9 is undoubtedly a looker. It is also designed to fit under kitchen cabinets, measuring 14 by 14 by 15-1/4 inches with a retractable power cord. Jura-Capresso includes an instructional booklet, video, and CD-ROM, plus a full one-year warranty for home use and a six-month one for offices. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars At last: the coffee achiever's dream machine!
Setting up the Jura was simple, taking about 10 minutes. After adjusting the grind setting and quantity of ground coffee per cup, we had flawless espresso shots in less than 30 seconds each, with the creamiest, most flavorful crema. The espresso non-drinkers in the house can have their "regular" coffee by pressing the "Special coffee" button, which dispenses up to 16 ounces of coffee at a time. Great for the big "go-cup". I set the Jura to power on at 5 am, and trust me, at that time of the morning I am in no shape to grind beans, measure coffee and fill water tanks. Now, all that's history. All I do is press a single button to run the rinse cycle, press a button for either a single or double shot, and in no time, I get the most flavorful, richest espresso I have ever had. We bought our machine at a local retailer, where we were told that they can't keep the machines in stock. I totally understand why.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of the best, BMW of Espresso Machines
If there is such a thing as the BMW 750 of coffee machines, this is it! A beautifully enginered machine that produces professional results every time. I have had earlier versions of this flawless coffee maker, but this really delivers better coffee than most coffee stores. Cappuccino, Latte, Double Espresso is produced perfectly. Others in our family use it to produce hot water for tea, soup mixes, cocoa, but one may preprogram this for several personal choices of coffee brewing and it comes out perfect every time. I really like this machine!

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally Awesome
If you like all types of coffee and complete ease of use, you will be thrilled with this machine. It has been & is used a lot! It tells you exactly what to do and when to do it in order to keep in it top condition. I thought my husband was nuts when he spent so much money for a coffee maker for my birthday, but after 3 years of almost continual use, I can't imagine using anything else. Everything about it is easy, easy, easy. The coffee is hot & consistently great tasting, it is fast, and the Capresso machine is super easy to clean. Friends come over just for the coffee. Whether you need one cup or two, whether you use beans, ground coffee, use frothed milk, and/or steam, whether you use a large cup & your husband uses a smaller one, the Capresso machine easily adjusts with each cup. Minor issue -- I'm not in love with the manual. It's not hard to use, it's just not great. I think it could be laid out a tad better. The video that came with our Capresso made up for that. It's the perfect coffee center for anyone who is very discriminating in their coffee taste.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great coffee - Be aware of long-term maintenance costs
I purchased this machine's predecessor, the Jura S90, about 4 years ago. Since no one's owned an S9 for that long, it's hard to say for certain what the maintenance costs for the S9 will be, but I thought those considering buying it might appreciate knowing that it will likely require a certain amount of annual or biennial maintenance.

The S90 has one part that needs replacing after approximately every 2000 shots, which in my house means about once every 18 months. There are also seals and similar parts that again will need service periodically. This machine appears to be mechanically very similar to the S90, so it will likely have similar maintenance characteristics.

Over the last 4 years, I've had the machine serviced twice by Jura, and once by a local repairman. The cost of repairs was around two hundred dollars including parts each time... My front panel switches are also starting to misbehave, though, so the next repair may be more expensive.

This machine costs enough (and is good enough) to be worth repairing, but if you're expecting a machine to last the ages without any repairs, you'll likely be disappointed.

I can't really fault the machine for needing periodic maintenance, though. You could get a commercial machine with heavy-duty parts for 2-3 times the price, and that would need periodic maintenance, too (though the parts would last longer). Just be aware that by buying a high end machine, you've moved out of the "disposable" machine range and into the "pay to fix it" range. "Never needs fixing" doesn't exist.

As to the quality of the coffee, I've tried this one, and the quality is the best I've tasted from a super-automatic.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Hint
A couple of previous reviews complained about blockages that quickly developed in their machines. I had the same problem after less than a month of use, where the brewed coffee would drip out very slowly, threatening to cease altogether. I told my wife she should return the machine, but she called Jura's customer service number, which is printed on the cover of the instruction booklet. The representative gave her a fix which is not mentioned in the troubleshooting section of the manual. It's difficult to describe, but it involves removing the grounds tray, poking a finger up through the chute and finding damp grounds that are stuck by a screen there. They can be wiped away with a paper towel and that should clear up the problem.
Otherwise, I recommend reading fhimas88888888's review for realistic advice, especially about the lifespan of a machine. This is my second super-automatic espresso machine, as a Saeco awaits repairs before becoming an office machine for my wife. They make very good coffee and espresso with relative ease and convenience. They're also great conversation pieces, although by now I find it tedious to demonstrate the machine for awed guests. If you love espresso, lattes, etc., the price of a super-automatic machine is worth it, although you can find one for less than half the cost of this Jura. I give the machine four stars because I wouldn't want to live without it, but I'm withholding a fifth star because I suspect competing machines are virtually as good. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love'in this machine!
After a few weeks of researching a REALLY good coffee/espresso machine I decided on the Capresso C1300 because of the combination of features and price. I recently took a trip to the Netherlands and at the hotel I stayed at they had a Super Automatic coffee center at the breakfast buffet (unknown brand or model, but definitely industrial). Anyway, when I got back Monday morning I immediately starting researching "Super Automatics" (they have a hopper to store the coffee beans and grind the beans on a per cup basis, have a holding tank for water... then when you push a button they grind, tamp, brew and dispose of used grinds automatically).

Well, earlier this week my new C1300 arrived with much fanfare. I picked it up at the post office, brought it to my office and unpackaged and inspected it. I was in perfect working order. I started with the included "quick start guide" and set the machine up per instructions. I had it up and ready to brew in less than 15 mins. The owner's manual was easy to understand and I had my first cup of coffee crema in less than 45 seconds after hitting the brew button. (For you coffee junkies, this machine makes a wonderful layer of crema on top of the coffee/espresso EVERY time!) The machine makes wonderful coffee and espresso. I spent a day or two tweaking the grinder settings and finding the right (according to my tastes) water settings per cup. I have several people come by my office daily to behold the wonder of my machine, at first out of curiosity but now for the great cup of coffee. I really have nothing bad to say about the C1300. In the morning it heats up very fast and having FRESH coffee anytime of the day at the mere push of a button is wonderful! ... Read more

Employing a stainless-steel vacuum carafe instead of a warmingplate, this 1,200-watt coffeemaker brews up to ten 5-ounce cups in just8 minutes for maximum flavor and aroma, and the carafe then keeps thecoffee hot for 4 hours. The carafe prevents coffee from turning bitter,as it can when sitting on a warming plate, and doesn't have to remainwith the machine for coffee to stay hot. To reduce calcification,Capresso's stainless-steel ThermoBlock system prevents water fromcontacting aluminum inside the machine. Other features: a digital, programmable, 24-hour clock/timer that makes it possible to have coffeeready in the morning; an automatic pause when the carafe is removedduring the brewing process for a quick pour; a charcoal water filter toremove up to 83 percent of the chlorine in tap water; an electronicindicator to show when the water filter needs replacing; a setting forbrewing three to five cups without diluting flavor and aroma; apermanent Gold Tone filter; automatic shutoff after brewing; anexternal water-level indicator; and concealed cord storage.

With a polished, extruded-aluminum body and plastic accents, themachine looks great on the counter. It measures 9-3/4 inches wide,13-3/4 inches high, and 10 inches deep, weighs 7 pounds, and carries aone-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great coffee, subpar design
I went with 3 stars because of price and design. It is better than 3, but I can't bring myself to call it 4. 3.5 is very fair. The coffee that this machine brews is far superior to any machine I have owned. It easily rivals coffee house machines. However, the carafe was poorly designed and the price tag is way too steep. I won't return it, but I retain the right gripe a bit.

PROS:

- Coffee taste is INCREDIBLE! Unmatched by any home machine I know of.

- Coffee is brewed hot. That is a fact. Do not let bad reviews about temp scare you. This machine brews hot.

- Coffee remains hot. Again, don't be scared. I don't pre-heat the carafe. The hot water heats it fast and since steel is a conductor, the carafe warms quickly. FWIW, I dumped a couple cups this morning after they sat all night. I kid you not when I say if you take it black, the temperature was still passable.

- It extracts max flavor from the grinds, therefore less coffee is required.

- The keypad is easy to use and understand. The cord compartment is very handy.

CONS:
- One hundred and sixty bucks is too much money. First off, the whole machine is not stainless steel. There is a lot plastic and fake steel. The brew technology is good, but there is no way on earth this machine is worth more than 2x a Braun 180. The coffee is a bit better, but you really have to be a fanatic to taste it.

- The carafe is TERRIBLY designed in the way it receives the brew. YES, YOU WILL HAVE COFFEE POUR ALL OVER YOUR KITCHEN IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL! The entry hole is too small. You can set the carafe in place and it will still overflow. It needs to be set PERFECTLY. The lips should be bigger by about 1/4" to prevent spillage. In fact, I feel this lid should be recalled. It is that bad. Exercise caution and you will be fine, but always be aware. Sometimes the ball sticks so even if it is lined up perfectly, it will still overflow. Make sure the green ball is moving before putting the lid on the pot. Use the tip of a knife to jar it loose if it is stuck.

- The lack of a removable water resovoir is inexcusable at this level. The machine is a little on the heavy side and doesn't slide easily, plus you hide the cord. A removable water resovoir would have been great.

- The carafe does pour slow. Make sure the dot is over the spout for best performance. Turning it past the spout only slows it further, it doesn't make the opening bigger! If it gets annoying, remove the lid, pour normal, then replace the lid.

This review may sound negative, but it isn't. Again, the coffee quality is unmatched. However, you do need to put up with mind-bogglingly dumb engineering and tiny quirks. But, like that lawnmower that only you know how to start, this is a machine you'll grow to love as you figure out how to control it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Coffeemaker
When it became clear that our 10 year old Krups coffee maker was on its last legs, I began researching thermal carafe coffee makers. I'm not much of a coffee drinker myself, but my husband cannot stand "burnt," or lukewarm coffee. Also, we often brewed partial pots, so the product we chose had to brew good coffee in the 3-5 cup range. The Capresso was the only product that met our requirements. Several other contenders in the same price range brewed lousy "mini" pots even when their other qualities seemed equal. Our Capresso arrived in time for our Thanksgiving company. All the regular coffee drinkers commented on the excellent coffee. I had a cup and there was none of the nasty after taste that I thought all coffee had. I may become a coffee drinker after all! I have always pre-heated the carafe with hot water before brewing and the coffee is very hot and stays that way for hours. You must remember to close the carafe after pouring a cup of coffee. I think the carafe is easy to use, the coffee is easy to brew and the machine is very well designed. It makes great small pots as well as whole pots of coffee. The only reason I didn't give this coffee maker a 5 star rating is because it is hard to clean. The pot is NOT immersible, not are you supposed to put it under running water. I am very small and have little hands and cannot get my hand inside the pot to clean it. The instructions recommend using a brush. So, I'll need to buy a soft brush to clean the inside of the pot. If the opening were a tiny bit larger, I could at least get my hand and a sponge in there! Still, it's a minor inconvenience for an otherwise excellent, and beautiful machine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Top price niche, but worth every penny for coffee lovers
I've had Braun and Krups makers before, but my Krups went kaput and I wanted something a little better for preparing a variety of fine Arabica coffees, from Antigua types like Kona to rich Indonesian varieties, to their best. (I was raised in Mexico, where for candy I sucked on coffee cherries, not candies.) The reviews here seemed a bit mixed, but after some research, I bit the bullet and bought the machine.

I have had the Capresso 440 for six months, so I feel I can comment now... and I am very impressed! It prepares excellent coffee, in large or small batches (there is a selector switch), has a permanent goldtone filter (you can buy paper filters -preferably unbleached - if you prefer,) coffee comes out above 165 F / 74C, and it stays warm at least a couple of hours; the coffee-maker is easy to program, set up and clean. It even looks good, though my prime criterion is always the quality of the coffee produced.

One small thing I improved on was the small black dot on the top of the black lid used to open / close the opening to the spout - I used a dot of yellow acrylic paint to make it more visible, and it makes a significant difference. Two things I think could be improved on - the fill indicator float-ball-in-column is on the right side, ecessed, and the design of the machine makes it a bit difficult to see in the darkish corner of my kitchen counter; and of course, a lower price would please everyone. These are relatively minor - the Capresso, made by a company that makes upper end machines for professional baristas, is a high-quality coffee-making machine that's sure to please aficionados of good coffees.

If you can't program your VCR or radio-alarm, demand piping hot coffee that blisters the mouth, or prepare cheaper Robusta coffees like Farmer Bros., forget this machine - save your money and get a Mr. Coffee. If you prefer espresso types, Capresso makes machines that do that, you won't be satsified here. To each, according their own taste...

But if you enjoy fine Arabicas properly prepared, without the unhealthy effects of plunge / press makers, and a machine that is easy to use and seems substantial enough to last, I think you will be very happy with the Capresso.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, reliable and tasty
After reading some of the other reviews, I was concerned about (1) how effective the carafe was at keeping the coffee hot and (2) whether the coffee would leak outside the carafe as it was being brewed.

Four hours after brewing, the coffee was still hot and ready to drink. I closed the pouring spout, and perhaps having it open would cause the coffee to cool more quickly. No complaints here.

I've made several dozen cups and have yet to have a drop drizzle outside the carafe while brewing. I'm not being extra careful when I place the carafe either. If you hang it off the side of the base, I imagine it would spill, but then anything that doesn't have the wide open mouth would.

As for the taste - using freshly ground beans - my wife thinks I've found the "secret" to making great coffee. (I don't drink it myself) And she's very picky about her coffee. The taste was as good whether I was making 5 cups or 10.

Cleanup is a snap and there are little things that make it better - the top to the filter box stays in place, even if you only raise it part way.

It looks VERY sleek on the kitchen counter - an art piece. It is expensive, but my wife is happy and as they say in the commercial - priceless.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great coffee maker - poor coffee keeper
The comments below are based on 3 months of daily use.

This is a great coffee maker. It's a shame the carafe (the keeper) isn't as capable as the rest of the machine. For the price, I would expect a well-designed carafe that would keep the coffee hot for at least 2 hours. In reality, if you don't drink it within the first hour, serious heat loss will keep you from fully enjoying the great coffee the brewer produces.

The flaw seems simple enough - poor carafe insulation. You can quickly feel heat on the outside of the carafe after making a fresh pot (if you can feel it on the outside, it's gone from the inside). I would also like to see the carafe with a more clearly marked top (pouring position), larger lid tabs to make it easier to open, and an improved pour flow rate (pretty slow). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Espresso Machine!
I am in love with this little espresso maker. I have never made espresso at home, but was tired of giving Starbucks all my money! I decided to try this and am very pleased with the results! The directions (written and on video) were very easy to follow and it made wonderful latte on my first try! It doesn't take up much room on the counter and looks nice. If you're looking for an easy basic machine, I wouldn't hesistate to recommend this one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for first time users!
I purchased this machine after much research and to my surprise; it has far exceeded my expectations. Why? Well first let me inform you that I had absolutely no espresso/cappuccino machine experience and that this Mini-S is in fact my first machine. So back to why?

1. Capresso does an excellent job with the instructional video and so you can feel very confident when making your first cup.

2. During my research I kept reading that some of the other less expense machines don't get up to a high enough temperature - well this is NOT a problem with this machine. BUT if you are making cappuccino MAKE sure that you froth/steam the milk enough to bring it to the right temperature or you will in fact experience a cooler cup of cappuccino.

3. Another complaint I heard about other machines is that the frother/steamer is too low to put a proper sized frothing pitcher. NOT the case with this machine. I purchased the Krups 085 - 20-ounce frothing pitcher and I have plenty of room.

4. This machine doesn't require a tamper - I don't know why but it doesn't and so that is one less item to buy!

5. IT MAKES AN EXCELLENT CUP OF CAPPUCCINO!! My wife and I purchased Espresso from Starbucks and had them grind it (so no need to buy a special espresso grinder) then we compared the cappuccino we made using the Mini-S & Starbucks brand espresso and the cup of cappuccino we had Starbucks make and they were identical!!!! (BTW - DO NOT use regular coffee so do make sure you buy real espresso and have it ground up for you)

I'm certain there are cons to this machine but being a first time user I have to say that I haven't found one yet and that is why I give this machine 5 STARS.

Good luck with your pursuit of a great cup! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

By eliminating the usual fuss and mess, this 1,200-watt machine makes it easy to brew espresso and make cappuccinos and lattes at home or in the office. It's semiautomatic because all that's required is to fill the water tank, place ground coffee into a receptacle, and pull a lever. Within seconds coffee flows from the double spout, which adjusts for different cup heights, into one or two cups. No tamping is required because the machine tamps the coffee precisely and automatically. Nor is it necessary to clean used coffee grounds out of a messy filter holder, because there is no filter holder, and the machine automatically discards grounds into a waste tray. The tray also catches overflows, and a light shows when it needs emptying.

For steaming and frothing milk to make cappuccinos, lattes, and hot chocolates and for delivering hot water for tea, there's a wand that rotates out to fit inside a pitcher or cup. The coffee receptacle accepts 7 to 15 grams (one or two fillings of the included scoop), and the powerful pump supplies enough hot water each time to fill cups from 1-1/2 ounces to 12 ounces, which means it will make a big mug of regular coffee as well as an espresso. The 53-ounce water tank is transparent for water-level monitoring. Water heats quickly thanks to the 1,200-watt heating coil, and a thermostat light shows when the water is hottest. The machine has internal storage for the power cord and comes with clear instructions, drink recipes, and a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

Lots of reviews on how the Ultima performed in the first few rounds, so I though I would add my 2 cents on "longer term" performance.

This machine is dangerous. Dangerously addictive, that is. If you love espresso based drinks, you WILL feel like making a cup after every meal to accompany your dessert. And then the morning pre-breakfast cup and the afternoon one with an almond-hazelnut double-chocolate biscotti. Control, control...

It is super easy to make a drink, and not tamping and cleaning after each cup is a god-send. You have to try a non-automatic and know what a chore those tasks are to appreciate the simple advantages and joys of this semi-auto baby.

And the taste - ah, beautiful. For all of you living around a Trader Joe's store, I highly recommend the Roma Coffee Beans - less than 20 cents a cup gets you a coffee that rivals some of the best in Roma.

Hope it keeps running for along time, but it has served me and my guests well for over 8 months.

Cheers!

5-0 out of 5 stars I could not be happier with this machine
I am an engineer, and fairly demanding when it comes to product design. I could not be happier with this product for the money. It's fast: you turn it on and by the time you have scooped the coffee in, it's heated up and ready to go. It is amazingly easy to use: you turn a lever and scoop coffee in, turn the lever again and turn it on. It's about as simple to use as a Mr. Coffee machine once you use it once or twice, but it looks complicated at first and my somewhat lazy coworkers still go to the coffee shop rather than plan ahead and buy coffee and milk. It usually froths milk wonderfully. The coffee, cappucino, and espressos I've made taste as good as anything I've gotten from a coffee shop. As others have said, grind the coffee halfway between an espresso grind and a drip cofee grind and you'll be fine.

If you are buying this for an office like I did, it is noisier than a Mr. Cofee machine, it's probably on par with the noise from a dishwasher: it's fine for a lunchroom or a file room where a door can be closed, but I wouldn't recommend it in an open area in which people work. For home use, it should be OK.

Where this product really shines is the cleanup. It really takes very little time to keep this unit clean, which was my biggest fear when buying one. I wipe the frother (the spout where the steam comes out) with a sponge after each use (takes all of 5 seconds). After 5-6 uses, a light comes on telling you to pour out the used coffee grinds, which takes all of 10 seconds. After about 10 uses, I remove the top, rinse it in the sink, wipe down the exposed inside, and then rerinse the removed top. During this time, I soak the frother and then reinstall everything back into place. It sounds complicated, but it isn't, and it takes about a minute or two per week. You'll save more than that even if you work next door to a coffee shop.

This is my first cappucino machine, and I've had it for over a year and use it twice each workday. I'm really happy with it and would recommend it to anyone interested in a cappuccino machine at this price point. It's a consumer product, not a $700 industrial-grade machine you can expect to smash around, but it's priced accordingly and the ease of use and quality of coffees it produces makes it a real value. It allows me to use water-process decaffinated coffee that no coffee shop will use because it doesn't taste as good as standard decaf, but doesn't have the chemicals that I don't want. And, it's much faster than going to the coffee shop, which in my case, is only 3 doors from my office building. And when it is raining out, who wants to walk even 3 doors away to a coffee shop?

I had some complaints, but they really had more to do with my inexperience. Now that I have had the thing for a year I upped my rating to 5 stars from 4. 2 double-size cappuccinos per day x 200 work days x $3 = $1200. The $300 it costs, plus $150 in coffee I've spent (Peets most expensive blend) + $50 in milk means I've saved $700 in the first year, and a whole lot of time. After a year of use, it still works perfectly, but if it broke tomorrow, I'd buy another one.

5-0 out of 5 stars love it
This machine makes *great* espresso and crema and is very easy to operate (after taking 5-10 minutes to review the directions). It is wonderful when making several cups at a time as the used grounds are automatically dumped into a hidden reservoir which reduces time and clean-up between brews.

I have only noticed problems with coffee temperature if I use the steamer first, then switch to coffee mode. Otherwise, coffee temps are perfect. I have not found a grind that is too fine for this machine, and it seems the finer the grind, the better the flavor.

My only real beef is that condensation collects in the coffee chute, so some of the grounds get stuck on the way to the brew chamber.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great warm espresso maker
I have had my Capresso Ultima since Christmas and use it everyday to make at least two lattes. Many of the above reviews expound its virtues and I agree with all of them. The only real fault I have found is the temperature of the espresso. I have found that I need to warm the finished product in the microwave as what comes out is only warm. I also have emailed the company about this on two occasions and have received no response.

5-0 out of 5 stars Over 5,000 espresso served and still going...
I bought this machine in Europe almost 2 years ago for work and every morning we all use this machine to make our morning espresso. Because we share the cost, we are still counting how many cups are made, and we are now well over 5,000 espressos. And still no problem at all with this heavily used machine !
On the downside, the coffee is not really hot. Some people prefer to put it in the microwave for a minute. ... Read more

For grinding larger quantities of coffee beans for a coffee-drinking crowd, Capresso’s commercial-grade Infinity grinder handles 8-1/2 ounces of beans at a time. Sixteen different settings--four each in the four categories of extra fine, fine, regular, and coarse--let you adjust the grind to the specific blend of coffee and method of brewing. The finest setting is ideal for preparing Turkish coffee, which is a rare feature to find in a grinder. A built-in timer sets the grind for anywhere between 5 and 60 seconds so you can walk away without having to constantly press a button to continue the grinding process. The Infinity has an advanced conical burr design made of steel that is usually only found on commercial grinders. This burr design slows down the gears and reduces the amount of friction and heat to preserve coffee’s flavor and aroma. The coffee container holds up to 4 ounces of grounds and remains sealed during grinding. For safety, the bean container also needs to be locked into place for the Infinity to operate. Also, fo easy cleaning, the bean container and upper burr lift off so you can clean the grinding chamber with the included brush and wipe down the and heavy-duty zinc die-cast housing. 5-0 out of 5 stars For the coffee gourmet
If you are serious about the quality of the coffee you drink, then you know that the beans must be fresh-ground right before brewing. The beans must also be uniformly ground to prevent over- or underextraction of coffee oils during the brewing process. A burr grinder, as opposed to a blade grinder, achieves a uniform grind since the beans only pass through its burrs once. This Capresso grinder has commercial-grade conical burrs that reduce the generation of heat which can ruin the flavor of the coffee. I like the fact that the bean container holds a generous half pounds of beans, so you can fill it and forget it for morning after morning of perfect coffee. The 16 grind settings allow grinds for every coffeemaker and blend. Cleaning the unit is a breeze. The top burr is easily removable, and the unit can then be cleaned with the included brush. The grinder operation is quiet. If I have any complaint, it is that the timer, marked from 1 to 10, is hard to correlate with grind time and the resultant amount of ground coffee. Although the fineness of the grind makes grind times vary, the enclosed booklet, which has tips for use, should have included some guidelines for timer/grind settings/yield to minimize the guesswork. I recommend this grinder for the coffee gourmet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sleek Design. Great Coffee. A Keeper.
Having been sorely disappointed with the Cuisinart Grind & Brew, I moved on to the Capresso MT500. I have not been disappointed.

Aside from being a superior coffee maker, the MT500 is a sleek, elegant appliance that looks great on any kitchen counter.

The keypad is simple and easy to use, and includes a digital clock for 24-hour programmability (a key must-have for me). The unit has a 3-5 cup small batch setting for fast and efficient brewing of smaller quantities (another must-have for me).

Perhaps most importantly, the unit brews very satisfactorily hot coffee, unlike the Grind & Brew, which I found luke warm (less than 170F). The thermal carafe does an excellent job of keeping unused coffee hot, particularly when you pre-heat it with hot water.

My only criticism would be that fill-level is inconveniently positioned and somewhat hard to read.

All in all, I'm very pleased with every aspect of the MT500. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Clean Water = Excellent Coffee
Beginning with the Coffee Team Plus, Capresso introduced the concept of a water filter in the water tank of their automatic coffee makers. If you use tap water, the filter is a wonderful idea. It removes impurities and chlorine before the water is heated. Clean water and a clean coffee maker = great coffee.
The manufacturer's recommendation is to change filters every 6 weeks or 60 pots of coffee. I usually change them every two months, or so. I imagine the effectiveness of the filter may depend on the quality of the water you use. I haven't had a problem yet.
Usage tip: Each filter is individually wrapped in plastic to keep it fresh until opened. When you open a filter, first soak it in cold water for about 15 minutes. Then rinse it under running water for another minute or two until the water dripping from the filter is clear. If you still see black particles dripping from the filter, run a pot of water through the coffee maker, with the new filter inserted, without coffee beans and discard the water afterward, or use the water for plants (when it is cooled, of course.) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This superautomatic is super!
This Jura Capresso S7 was a big investment but was worth it. It makes great coffee right out of the box with the factory presets. If you find you need to tweek it, the amount of coffe, amount of water, and fineness of the grind are all programmable by the user.
The unit is basically cube shaped. It has a matte black finish with silver colored accents. The coffee/hotwater spouts move up and down and raise high enough to even allow my giant morning mug underneath. The S7 can be programmed to turn on automatically in the morning (or whenever), but it heats up so quickly that turning it on after I wake up works just fine.
Cleanup is amazingly simple. The fact that the brew group never has to be removed really keeps upkeep to a minimum. I like the fact that by using the Claris water filter I never have to think about the hardness of my water and decalcifying the machine.
The unit comes with alot of documentation as well as a setup video and informational CD. Watch the video, then have the manual handy when you setup and getting up and running will be a cinch.
Personally I ran a few more rinse cycles, and a few extra test cups of coffee than the instructions suggest but is just my own little ritual when setting up a new coffee maker.
I like my coffee to be strong and hot. I was concerned that a superautomatic would not be able to come up to my standards but the S7 surely does. The machine is top notch.
I'm happy to say the Capresso service department seems to be top notch too. Through a mistake that I caused, I had to call Capresso customer service and was wonderfully impressed. Not only did I get right through to a human, she was extremely helpful (proactive even!) and solved the issue on the spot.
Just beware that getting this machine may really increase your coffee consumption. It is so easy and fun to use, you want a cup everytime you pass it. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

The Impressa F90 from Jura-Capresso combines fine-coffee know-how with touch-screen technology, an Aluframe structure, and honest-to-God Internet connectivity. Like Jura-Capresso's other top-of-the-line models, the Impressa F90 is fully automatic. It grinds, tamps, brews, and steams with the touch of a few icons on its control panel. Designed with both exacting standards and user preference in mind, the machine is pre-programmed at the factory for excellent results. It can also be tailored to your specific tastes for coffee strength, water amount, temperature, and steam quantity. You can also customize the separate hot water function for bespoke cafe americanos. Purchase Jura-Capresso's connectivity kit separately and you can even store individual coffee-drinkers' preferences in the F90's electronics.

Built for power, the F90 uses a 15-bar pump and a single 1450-watt ThermoBlock heating unit lined in stainless steel for a flavor-neutral, corrosion-resistant structure. The six-stage conical grinder, also made from stainless steel, delivers consistent results, while the patented brewing unit creates the ideal pressure conditions for perfecting crema. A pre-brew system moistens and conditions grounds for maximum aroma and flavor. The F90 has several self-maintenance features, including automatic rinsing, cleaning, and de-calcifying functions. Other handy extras include an illuminated cup area, adjustable coffee spout, and multi-language display. The water tank holds 64 ounces, while the bean tank stores 7 ounces. 4-0 out of 5 stars great machine
A great machine that produces some very good coffee and good (not great) espresso. The machine can turn itself on in the morning and be ready for a great cup of coffee in a few seconds. It also allows for easy selection of coffee strength for each cup. The selected cups size does not affect the amount of coffee beans per cup, but instead produces a larger cup out of an espresso size amount of beans. For a standard size cup of coffee this yields a great cup. For reference, I cannot stand starbucks coffee (no flavors -- just roast taste).

My only complaints are cost (should be a few hundred less), the coffee could be hotter, and the digital display never shows the time of day.

2-0 out of 5 stars too expensive...coffee okay
Obviously the previous reviewer has not tried coffee from a semi automatic machine which hands down provides better crema, better aromas, and better tasting coffee. No matter who you talk to, anyone who has a semi automatic machine will tell you that their coffee is MUCH better than a super automatic. Also, if you really do like this machine (it is a very beautiful machine), get the S7, for it is the same price, but has infinitely more features.

This machine is too expensive. Put it into perspective, 1800 dollars for a coffee machine, hmm...what could you buy with 1800 dollars? I don't think I need to go through a list, but I think that gets the point across.

This machine will yield no better espresso than any other machine above 500 dollars. Capressos are just outrageously expensive and I have no explanation to why. Some of the features on this machine are useless and you shouldn't even pay for them. For example, it allows you to choose from mild, medium, strong, and extra strong coffee. The mild and the medium taste worse than drip and there is no crema on them, the strong and extra strong are good, BUT NOT GREAT.

The only machines that can provide awesome coffee is the semi automatics. Convenience really isn't an argument considering it takes about 3 minutes with a super and 5 with a semi. And you can even get semi's with pods to make brewing easier so all you have to do is put the pod in the portafilter, and turn the brew switch on.

One last thing, before you buy it, go out to a store and see it, for you will be surprised with the size. The looks of the front of the machine are nice, the size of it is tremendous.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Future of Coffee is Here
Wow! What a machine. This is not only great to look at but brews the best crema-topped coffee I have ever seen or tasted, flawlessly every time. For the cost of a daily visit to Starbucks for a year, you can have your own caffe-latte machine at home or at work. It is set up to give different users a choice of three cup sizes and three coffee strenghts. I prefer my coffee strong in a demitasse size cup, while my partner drinks an 8 oz. cup of "mild" coffee. We just push the touch pad and enter our preference and out comes perfect coffee, freshly ground, tamped and brewed in seconds. You can even add pre-ground decaf coffee in a special hopper and then switch to automatic grinding, tamping & brewing the next cup from whole bean coffee.
This is the future of coffee. Jura and Capresso got it right! ... Read more

In white, the CoffeeTEAM from Capresso lets you choose from 2 to 10 cups for serving only a few or a larger group. You can also select mild, regular or strong depending on how strong you like your beverage, and choose from four fineness settings. Program the CoffeeTEAM either manually or using the automatic setting - this way you always enjoy the same coffee taste time after time. The slow grinding of the burrs imparts minimal heat preserving more aroma. If you prefer, you can also use pre-ground coffee (without the use of the grinder) for decaf or flavored coffees.
