Equipped with a UV germicidal light to help kill airborne microorganisms and a three-speed fan to continuously circulate air through two filters, this portable air purifier removes smoke, pollen, dust, animal dander, dust mites, molds, bacteria, viruses, and odors. Helpful for asthmatics, allergy sufferers, and cold/flu patients, the purifier contains a true HEPA filter that is at least 99.97 percent effective at trapping tiny particles; a prefilter reduces odors. A digital readout displays air quality (good, fair, or poor), and the fan can be set to automatically adjust speed according to air-quality needs. Digital indicators show when filters need replacing. The purifier measures 19-1/2 by 14 by 8-1/4 inches and is recommended for rooms up to 350 square feet. Filter replacement is simple: open front, remove prefilter and/or HEPA filter, position new filter(s), and close. The purifier carries a three-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Quiter than Blueair
I have severe asthma and have been VERY pleased with the 04163 Hamilton Beach Air Purifier. I'm not sure what planet the negative reveiwers are from but I investigated all the options regardless of price. I went by Sears and looked at the Kenmore. The reviewer who liked it must work for Sears because it isn't even in the same ballpark as the Hamilton Beach. I briefly bought and returned a BlueAir which cost twice as much and is supposed to be the quietest. Instead it has an irritating high pitched whine that oscillates and would be better utilized as a torture device. The Hamilton Beach, on the other hand, is not only quiet, but the white noise it makes is actually soporific. I prefer to sleep with it on and it runs 24/7. I use to have a constant problem with mold in my master bathroom, but the Ultraviolet light on the Hamilton Beach has kept it from returning. The other day I chased my golden retriever into the bedroom with ear cleaner and to my surprise the automatic fan smelled it, and dealt with it, turning the fan on automatically to a higher setting briefly. I couldn't even smell it myself. To describe it's air cleaing capability, I will just end by saying this, the reason I am on this site is I am getting ready to buy a second Hamilton Beach for my office.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good, For Its Price and Intended Purpose
Haven't had it for very long, just a couple of months, but I like it. I had a Honeywell room unit that was okay, but I had no idea how well it was working. With the HB, the air sensor gives you some idea of how well it's working. When first hooked up, the HB showed that the Honeywell was doing a good job of cleaning. At first, I thought maybe I should have just stayed with the Honeywell. I had initially stayed away from using the UV light, after reading that it didn't do anything. Wrong. When I finally switched on the UV light, a lot of my nighttime nasal congestion disappeared. That feature, plus the sensor, makes this model a 4- rather than 3-star product. (Keep in mind tthat this is a one-room unit and not intended for people with severe allergies.)

Seems to have a small but noticeable effect on keeping dust down.

Whisper Quiet ... isn't. But it's no louder than the Honeywell. I also selected Super Saver shipping, saved some money, and got it in five business days. If this unit lasts another year without problems, I'll buy another for another room in my house.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works great but noisy
I have been using this product for a year now with great results. It really does seem to clean the air and has improved my allergies. The filters are extremely easy to replace when necessary. My only complaint is that it is noisy, too noisy for me to use when I am sleeping.

5-0 out of 5 stars Work great
My room used to be very dusty but since I purchased this product, the room is much cleaner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Impressed
It has been 3 months since I received the air purifier, one word, WOW.

For over 3 years, I have suffered from postnasal drip and congestion every morning due to minor dust allergies. I have noticed this has progressively gotten worse over this period. In an effort to remedy this situation, I was more diligent in dusting and cleaning my apartment and I visited my doctor a few times over the past few years. I was prescribed allergy pills and steroids in an effort to cure me, nothing worked.

I finally decided to buy an air purifier as general means of breathing cleaner air. I selected this one based on the reviews and comments others reported and was not disappointed. Literally, the first night I used the purifier, it cured my postnasal drip problem. The morning after, my nasal passage was clear and dry. I could breathe!!! Now every night before bed, I turn on my purifier and every morning now, I wake up clear and congestion free. I have even noticed when I am away from my purifier/apartment, the congestion returns.

Now to review the product itself... I must say the gadget-lover in me, opted for the UV light and digital readout of this particular model. Honestly, I probably could have done without the UV light and digital readout. There have been nights where I forgot to turn on the UV light and still woke up fine, perhaps it may be more effective in the winter when there are more germs flying around. The only semi-annoying thing is the device does not remember the UV setting when you turn it off. With the digital readout, I think I could have done without it. As I said, I love gadgets and features like this. However, it does work though. For example, when I open my window, it quickly determines the air is much dirtier and reacts accordingly. How smart!!!

People have noted that the purifier is very noisy. I think this is a purely subjective matter. I live in NYC on a ninth floor apartment off the East River on the FDR Drive. I am accustom to a certain amount of noise. I am subject to varying levels of car and wind noise 24/7. Concerning the purifier, I typically run it at low speed each night (I only run it at night). It is positioned at the foot of my bed. IMHO, using the lowest speed is no noisier than running an air conditioner at low speed. After a couple nights, it became white noise and is hardly noticeable to me now.

As far as size goes, I was a bit surprised how large it is but considering the size of the HEPA filter. It is not that bad in comparison. I am sure the larger size helps in better coverage of a large sized room.

The only negative I could come up with is the price (I paid about $140) but, given my success with the purifier, I cannot really claim this as a real fault. After 3 months, I am still on the original HEPA filter. The carbon filter I actually rinsed off the dust with some running water a couple times. It is a bit of a messy process but seems effective. I recently ran the built-in test on the filters and it passed. The replacement HEPA filter is a bit pricey; I think it should cost a lot less. They run about $40 to $50 each while the replacement carbon filters run three for $10.

Overall, I am very, very, very happy with my purchase. The money I paid was worth it. I can breathe!!! However, if can settle for the smaller size and/or without the digital readout, just get a lower-end model which sells for much less. The most important feature is the HEPA filter. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Silent night
We live in Hawaii and like many people here suffer terribly from allergies, especially when the Kona winds are blowing from the big island, bringing the dreaded "vog" (volcano smog) with them. On top of that, my husband is allergic to our two beloved cats (the cats and I decided to keep him anyway) and I was allergic to his subsequent noisy snoring, so I purchased this item. I must admit I thought it might wind up just being another gadget lying around the house, but I am very pleased to report that it is an extremely useful device that has made our sleep significantly more peaceful and restful. We keep it on automatic most of the time; it's a tad noisy at night if it kicks into high gear, so occasionally we switch it onto whisper quiet before we sleep. I'm so glad we bought it, and I'd recommend it to anyone who suffers from allergies or has pets that they don't want to banish from the house. I also like the streamlined design of the Hamilton Beach model, the others looked too heavy and obtrusive.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great purifier for the price!
I recently purchased this unit with hopes of reducing dust and other particulates in my bedroom. For reference, I live in Manhattan where the air quality is sometimes not the greatest.

Summary: Great unit for the price. Super ergonomics and clear displays make this unit a winner!

Positive aspects

1. Inexpensive price. Good value for the buck compared with many other filters on the market.

2. Good ergonomics. I actually liked the fact that you can monitor filter lifespan and air quality on a clear to read LCD. You can also see if the anti-germ UV bulb is working by seeing a glow out of a darkly tinted (for safety!) window on top.

3. Easy to set up! I had this puppy up and running in under 10 minutes. Pretty foolproof installation makes this one a keeper.

4. Great filtering technology. The unit can automatically adjust to the air quality in your room. Very nice! Also, I noticed a change in the air quality within 1 hour of operation.

5. Small form factor. After all, no one wants a huge unit in their bedroom!

Some minor complaints:

1. Power cord. I wish the power cord were a bit longer so that I could have greater placement flexability. Not a big deal.

2. UV bulb. Replacing the UV germicidal bulb is tad bit expensive. Again, not a big deal.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great, but doesn't seem to last
This air cleaner has to be one of the coolest air cleaners out there. So far, I have not seen any in this price range that automatically adjust to the air quality. I like that it comes with a guage to let me know when I need to change the hepa filter. The gauge and a cleaner for the air sensor each have a special storage spot, so they don't get lost.

The one I have now is the second one I have bought, but the third one that I have had.

The first one worked for about 9 months, then the motor started to squeak. I called Hamilton Beach, and they asked me to send it in for warranty service. I got a brand new one back. I was about to have to change the filter in mine, so it worked out kinda nice. The new unit lasted about a year, then the motor just stopped. It was out of warranty by this point, so I went out and bought another.

Now I have had my third unit for about 6 months, and the motor died again, so I am going to have to call Hamilton Beach again, and probably ship it out.

I would think the motors should outlast the HEPA filter, but it hasn't been the case. I am a smoker, so it cycles from low to high quite often, but I wouldn't think that should be a problem.

When this filter works, it works great.... It helps keep my place from stinking from the smoke, and helps my allergies. The customer service has been great so far too. I just wish the unit would last.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product
I bought this machine to help me with my allergies. It has worked tremendously and I highly recommend it. Running the purifier in the bedroom overnight has allowed me to sleep peacefully. The purifier is also excellent in the kitchen at removing any odors from cooking.
The machine is louder than I would like. On the lowest setting it can still be heard but is tolerable, and after a while you don't notice it. On the highest setting the noise is deafening and forces me to turn it to a lower setting. However, on the highest setting it is very fast and effective at cleaning the air in an entire room.

5-0 out of 5 stars Does it all
This air filter is designed amazingly well. It can even be placed against a wall. The air enters through the front passing through a carbon and hepa filter, then the air exits through the top on its way back out into the room. Before the air exits, it passes by an ultraviolet light which kills mold spores, bacteria & viruses (a must for the au courant hypochondriac). It is very quiet & has a sensor which automatically & temporarily increases the fan speed to clean the excess pollution from the room. It even has a digital display to let you know it's working. This air purifier has everything you need and all for under $150. After owning it for two weeks, I bought a second one. If you have allergies (and even if you don't), buy one and your nose and lungs will most definitely thank you. ... Read more

This top-of-the-line Cool Mist humidifier is a big step up from those old steam-spitting devices. It features a front LCD panel from which you can select the desired humidity. Simply adjust the setting to anywhere between 20 percent and 90 percent (50 percent is recommended for most situations) and set the fan to low, medium, or high. The unit is oval in shape, and because the controls are on one end, it can be operated easily even if placed in a narrow space. (It's 10 inches wide and about 17 inches deep.) The curvy, translucent gray rear tank lifts off easily for refilling, as does the front fan unit for changing or rinsing the drop-in filter. The water tank is dishwasher-safe. --Richard Farr ... 3-0 out of 5 stars I hate changing this filter
Not wanting to go through another winter with dry skin, I decided to look into purchasing a humidifier. After much research, I decided on the Hamilton Beach 05521 TrueAir Cool Mist Humidifier. I have used this humidifier for a few months now and it's hard to tell if the humidifier has helped or not.

My skin is still dry, but I don't think it is AS dry as it would have been. The humidifier runs 24/7 on quiet.

The digital readout is very nice, I can't imagine one of these without a readout. The thing is though, it almost never raises the humidity above 35-40%. I've even let it run on high all day once in awhile, and all that does is use up all the water faster. Even on quiet, I have to fill the tank twice a day. And my wife and I are getting tired of filling up the tank all the time.

The one thing that I really hate about this unit is the filter. It gets really filthy very quickly, even after turning it over every time I fill the tank like the directions say. After about 3-4 weeks it starts smelling pretty bad and needs to be changed. At ten bucks a pop, I would expect the filters to last a lot longer.

If I would have been able to try this unit out for a month before purchasing it, I would have returned it and kept looking around for something else because of the filter. I don't know if all humidifiers go through filters this fast, surely they can't all be this bad, can they?

Other than the filter, it's not a bad unit. And I would definitely recommend getting a unit with a digital readout so you can see what the humidity level is before and after you use it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Performance matches expectation
I bought this humidifier a month ago after much research. So far, it hasn't shown any mechanical trouble. The filter is holding up just fine after 4 weeks, despite daily use. Surely the quality of water in your area dictates how frequently you will need to change the filter. Nevertheless, it is recommended that you flip the filter over (to prolong it's life)when you refill the water. In my case, filter change maybe warranted no sooner than 2-3 months.

The large capacity of the water tank is good enough for 24 hour operation (on quiet setting). I use it all day night long on the low setting and it uses up about half the amount of water in the tank. At first the low setting may seem noisy especially if there is very little ambient noise around you (like when you can hear the wall clocks in your house ticking). But after a few minutes it sounds just like a dull whirring sound that is hardly objectionable. I use it in my bedroom at night and it doesn't disturb my sleep.

It is easy to see the level of water through the tinted tank. The water tank is easily removable when handled vertically. There is no leakage/spilling when you do so. There is a wide fill hole at the bottom of tank for refilling water. There are two problems though with refilling ...firstly the tank is too large to fit under the faucet in the kitchen sink, so you need a jug or hose to fill it up or use the faucet in the bathtub...secondly, the cap on the fill hole is pretty tight (the upside is that it is spill-proof) so I wouldn't recommend the unit for feeble people.

The other part of the unit, housing the motor and fan, comes off easily too. I do wish it had a latch, because you need to be careful not to knock it off when removing the water tank. When the water tank is replaced on the base tray, some water from the container fills up the tray, making a gurgling sound. It makes the same tiny gurgling sound periodically during operation too. This water in the tray is taken up gradually by the filter (which sits under the motorized fan), to generate the humidity when the fan is on.

The digital panel is easy to read. I do not however agree with the humidistat's reading. I have another humidistat in the room that I compare the reading to. The humidifier's reading is always lower, usually by 8 to 10 percent. Setting the desired level of humidity is simple although it can be done only in 5 percent increments. The unit shuts of automatically when the desired hunidity level is reached.

The base is easy to lift if the unit needs to be moved. Of course it is much more convenient to do so after removing the heavy water tank. As long as care is taken not to slant the base tray, there is no leakage or spill.

One point to consider if you are paying heating bills in the winter is that, since this IS a cool-mist himidifier, it will make the room cooler. So you may need to turn up the heat in the room a notch.

Overall, I am very satisfied with the unit's performance and recommend it to any able-bodied adult considering a cool-mist humidifier. To sum up, here are the PROS and CONS:

CONS:
1. Water tank is too large to fit under kitchen faucet
2. Cap on fill hole is tight. Some strength required to turn it
3. Humidistat not accurate
4. Motor unit is not securely latched to base tray to prevent accidentally knocking it off when removing water tank.

PROS:
1. Very good performance
2. Low operating sound on quiet setting
3. No leakage or spilling when handled correctly
4. Portable
5. Dishwasher safe; Easy to clean
6. Desired humidity level can be set manually
7. Automatic shut-off when desired humidity reached

PRO/CON depending on whether you live in hot or cold climate: Makes the room cooler.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good product but needs some improvements
I have had this humidifier for about two months now and have found the following:

PROS:
1.This humidifier works well for me. I keep it in my bedroom and only use it at night and I like the white noise that the quiet setting gives off.
2. It does a fair job.
3. It has a digital readout (very nice feature).
4. It has a large water tank.
5. It is easy to use.
6. I have not had any mechanical problems with it.

CONS:
1. The filters have to be replaced about once a week, otherwise they get moldy and start to smell (and who wants to breathe in mold?)
2. The filters are WAY too expensive. Amazon sells them for seven bucks and this is the cheapest I have found. This is a lot of money to shell out every week.
3. Filters are hard to find. Not many places carry them.
4. The cap on the water tank is VERY hard to open. It takes forever to get it off.

Bottom line, I would not purchase this humidifier again simply because I hate shelling out 28 bucks every month for filters. Even though the cap is hard to get off, it isn't impossible and its something I can live with. Maybe HB will come out with a filter that can be reused by putting it through the dishwasher or something, but until then I would not recommend purchasing this humidifier unless you have a lot of money to put into buying filters. Even though it works well, it just isn't worth it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Design
Out of the box it looked nice but my happiness soon faded. I set it up just like the manual says. When I plugged it in and turned it on nothing happened. I noticed the fan was twitching a little bit so I turned it to "HI". The fan started moving a little and then finally worked it's way up to speed after a few seconds. I figured oh well the thing is new so it was just stuck from being new. It worked ok for a while and then I went out of the house for a couple hours. I got back and what looked like the entire contents of the reservoir had spilled onto my brand new Pergo flooring and expensive raw maple wall trim!!! I now have water under my floor, soaked through my trim and soaked under the wall and into the next room!!! I took it apart looked it over and gave it another try (on a towel in a less new room). Once again it worked well but this time I checked on it every 10 minutes. Once it was about 2/3 empty for some reason it decided to simply empty itself onto whatever it was sitting... PIECE OF CRAP!!! DO NOT BUY!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Impressed!
I have tried many models and I'm satisfied I got the best cool-mist fan unit available. The unit comes in 4 pieces; the large fan unit section that contains the controls, the translucent 3-gallon water container, the bottom tray that both of the previously-mentioned pieces slide upright into and a hidden water reservoir tray inside the bottom tray that's not visible from the product photograph.

As for the main unit, the humidistat works very well. Although I can't comment on someone else's concern about the humidistat not being accurate, in my experience it works very well. When I ratchet it up to a high humidity level, I get lots of moist air. After you change the setting by pressing either the UP or DOWN humidity buttons to increment the humidity level in 5% increments, the display flashes for 3 seconds after which the unit responds (either turns on or off) based on the new setting. It's quick and easy.

In addition to the UP humidity button and DOWN humidity buttons, there's a 4-point switch for OFF/QUIET/MEDIUM/HIGH. The HIGH setting is really good for humidifying multiple rooms and blasts quite a strong swirl of moisture into any room in no time at all. The QUIET setting is remarkably quiet. Although no cool mist-based fan can be SILENT, I am impressed with just how quiet this lowest setting is. I was fine with it right away, and although my wife was cautious, she took to it by the morning and has enjoyed it ever since. For hypersensitive people (like my mom) where any noise would be too much noise, I'm afraid NO cool-mist system will be sufficient. I sleep with the unit on the floor in the same room I am in, slightly below the level of our bed, and a mere 10 feet away and am very pleased with the quiet hum of the lowest setting. Underneath the fan unit resides the filter which is easy to replace and sits almost too easily into a small molded, shaped guide in the bottom tray. New filters are flattened for shipping and need to be reshaped into a cylinder before replacing them - and filters seem to last longer than I expected at 1 filter every 5-6 weeks - even after which they do not look gross, moldy or dirty.

The water container is a smart design. The fill hole is at the bottom of the 3-gallon jug, but seals tightly by way of an integrated plunger built into the wide screw-release fill cap. I haven't had ANY problems with spilling, leakage or difficulty opening the fill cap as at least one other reviewer has mentioned. Since the container faces into a humid environment, it's worthwhile to shake the container once or twice before you carry it across the room to shake any droplets of humidity away. Refills are every two days for me - but we only use this in the evening and sleeping hours, so constant usage would likely require daily refills.

Every once in while, you may hear a slight gurgle as air bubbles float up from the bottom of the container while the humidifier is in use, but this also is hardly noticeable - especially since it is usually quieter than the fan itself on the lowest setting - and flat up impossible to hear if the fan is set to medium or high. This occasional gurgling of air bubbles is infrequent and no distraction at all. Finally, the 3-gallon container is very easy to fill, but because of its depth, you will need to have either a reasonably deep basin kitchen or utility sink or fill the jug up in a bathtub. Either way, 3 gallons of water is easy to heft for an adult, but may be difficult for an elderly parent or friend (consider a smaller capacity unit if this is the case). Carrying is an easy one-handed operation thanks to the white handle built into the top of the jug itself.

The 3 non-motorized plastic pieces can be placed in a dishwasher, but you will need a dishwasher with a fairly deep main section in order for the 3-gallon jug to fit. Consider removing the upper rack (if possible) for smaller dishwashers. If all else fails, the mouth of the jug is fairly wide (5" across), so a petite hand, wrist and arm could reach inside to scrub the unit if that was ever needed (it doesn't seem to get dirty, moldy or gross in the time I've used the unit). For the one piece that cannot be put into the dishwasher, the fan unit is remarkably open with a great deal of free space for cleaning. I have never seen a unit as easy and accessible as this one. Usually I simply throw out humidifiers after a season or two since disassembling them enough to clear every nook and cranny proves not worth the effort. This is the first and only unit where that has not been a problem.

With as many great things I have to say about this unit, I have one exceptionally minor complaint: the two largest units (the water jug and the fan unit) slide too easily away from the base. This is due to the shallow crevice they sit in and the lack of a clip, latch or groove that would otherwise 'lock' the two units into place. This requires the user to slide the jug straight up when removing it for refills - otherwise, you run the risk of knocking the fan unit over and onto the floor. 5-0 out of 5 stars Good Investment- Does the job WELL....
I spent some time searching around, with my criteria being of course cost-effectiveness, low noise, and mostly the ability to clean the air effectively. I was initially under the impression that the replacement filters would save me a lot *(over previously systems I had owned), but that was not the most important selling point. I am now shopping for filters, and realizing that it is a two-step process... getting both the carbon screen and the entire filter. While I am shopping around for the best deal, I am planning to meanwhile just use the vacumn to prolong the life of the existing carbon screen and filter.... seems to be ok to do. I highly recommend this product.... GREAT UNIT !

5-0 out of 5 stars Hamilton Beach TrueAir HEPA Air Cleaner & Filter
After owning several more expensive HEPA filters over the last 10 years, I have been very impressed with the Hamilton Beach TrueAir Air Cleaner. I throughly researched this unit before purchasing and have been very pleased with its capabilities. It's quiet, the filters are easy to change and find, and its automatic function with the UV light works as expected. It was well worth the investment.

4-0 out of 5 stars clean air at a good price
I reviewed several air purifiers before purchasing the Hamilton Beach 04160 with UV light unit. With all the misleading information on HEPA fitlers, ionic and electrostatic units on the market it can be hard to find exactly what you need. My son has asthma and we all have air borne allergies. Since installation of the unit, in the family room and bed room, the level of dust has decreased and my son has not had an asthmatic attack either. All air purifiers make noise. I give the level of noise a #2 with #1 being very quite. For the price of the unit, price of replacement parts and the quality of performance Hamilton Beach is the one I selected. ... Read more

The brilliantly simple design of the Hamilton Beach commercial manual citrus juicer is as classic-looking as it is effective. Created with rack-and-pinion gearing that allows you to exert up to 2,000 pounds of pressure with very moderate work, the unit extracts maximum amounts of juice from oranges, grapefruits, lemons, and limes. Pith, pulp, peel, and oil are left behind in the strainer cone, which is removable for easy cleanup. Between juicings, the juicer's handle stays in the "up" position, which makes it easy to quickly add more fruit. A swing-out drip cup at the bottom is adequate for small citrus fruits; it also swivels to the side to make way for glasses up to 5-1/2 inches high and swings back into place to collect drips. Designed for rugged use, the juicer has a heavy-duty metal construction with acid-resistant chrome and enamel finishes. It is suitable to a heavy-duty café kitchen or a high-volume coffee counter, and its Sure Grip non-skid base keeps it still while protecting the countertop. Measuring 7 inches wide by 9 deep, it stands 19-1/2 inches high. Hamilton Beach includes a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars very unhappy
I bought this to reduce the amount of dust and cat hair floating in the air. What a waste of money! It did absolutly nothing (even in our small apartment!). I am dusting furniture just as much as I was before I bought this product and there is still cat hair floating around . My baby is due in June, and I want her to breath clean air, so I am planning on getting an Ionic breeze purifier (which doesn't need filters) from the sharper image (sorry Amazon). I have heard very good things about it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
I must admit that at I debated for a long time whether or not to buy this product because it was a little expensive, but so far it has been worth every penny! I bought it to help with allergies and pet odor, and it has definately proven itself! I knew I wanted one with a HEPA filter because those are the most efficient at filtering out small particles in the air. I run it on the lowest setting in my bedroom at night, and when I wake up in the morning I don't suffer from morning allergies like I did before purchasing this air purifier. It used to be I'd wake up with my eyes watering and my nose running like crazy, even though I take daily allergy medication. It's great to not have to suffer through the mornings! Also, I have pet ferrets which are all kept in one room, and as you can imagine it can have a pretty strong pet odor. I run the air purifier on the medium setting in the room for an hour or so, and when I go back in there it smells fresh and clean! I was in awe. Since it covers 180 sq. ft. I can place it in an open centralized location in my house and it keeps the dust out and the air fresh. I like the three setting controls which allow you to pick how much air you want going through the filter, and I like how portable it is - not too heavy to move around. The lowest setting is whisper quiet, I barely notice it's on at night unless I really listen for it. The higher settings just sound like a fan is running in the room, so they aren't too loud either. The product is easy to use, changing the filter is a piece of cake! Over all, I've had a great experience with this air purifier, and the investment has certainly been worth it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love This Griddle!
This is the best small appliance I have purchased in a long time! I sold my George Forman grill in a yard sale, this griddle is so much fun to cook on and super easy to clean! The grease just pours off into the drip tray and makes delicious food. I made six large New York strip steaks on this, done to perfection! I fried an entire pound of crispy bacon and the fat just melted away...and best of all, it goes into the sink and gets really clean. I would'nt trade this for anything, I absolutely love the ease of cooking and the quick cleanup, it is well made and very much worth the money. Have fun in the kitchen again...buy this!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Flip & Enjoy!
I was very pleased with the performance of this griddle. The surface is nice and slick, and there's plenty of room to maneuver and flip. And since I'm not tied to the cooktop, I can set it up on any convenient counter in the kitchen.

Ignore the temperature suggestions on the driptray, though. 375 degrees is way too hot for pancakes (which is what I use it the most for) - 350 is perfect for most things.

I really do recommend this griddle highly!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous (thought the drip tray could be a bit more durable)
Have owned this for the past three months and love it--it does exactly what it's meant to do, very well, it's easy to clean, and has yet to lose its no-stick finish. The only problem is the drip tray--one of the prongs that holds it in place broke within a day or two of purchase and it falls out as it's being transported. It's still working, though, so it hasn't affected our use of this [inexpensive], useful appliance.

5-0 out of 5 stars jumbo griddle
I purchased my griddle in time for the holidays and was
very pleased with the x-large surface cooking area and how well
it keeps an even heat througth out the surface. Although I was
a bit skeptical about the teflon coating I have been very impreased with its performance. The large drip tray is also very easy to clean. So if your like me and love pancakes, frenchtoast,
bacon and eggs or just some great hashbrowns, or maybe just
some good toasted cheese sandwiches! I know you'll be very happy with your purchase! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

With its programmable clock, this versatile coffeemaker not only has hot java waiting in the morning but can brew the coffee directly into either the 10-cup, glass-lined carafe, or one or both of the Thermos-brand travel mugs. Hamilton Beach makes the brewing process easy: a guide inside the water reservoir features mug symbols for the precise amount of water to add, and scalloped ridges on the coffeemaker base indicate exactly where to position the mugs. Care should be taken to ensure the coffeemaker is resting on a level surface, since a slight tilt could result in uneven distribution when both mugs are used simultaneously. A mug is placed under the brew basket with its lid screwed on tightly--a 360-degree ring of holes around the mug lid allows the coffee to enter during brewing. In addition, the holes enable the user to drink from any side, whether the handle is grasped by the left or right hand, a convenience that many car cup holders overlook.

Each mug features a stainless-steel exterior, plastic interior, and handle generous enough for a gloved hand, ideal for cold winter commutes. When preheated with hot water, the carafe keeps coffee piping hot and looks elegant enough for serving at a fancy event. Other features of the Stay Or Go machine include simple-to-use on/off, programming, and hour and minute buttons, a cone-shaped filter basket with handle (requires No. 4 paper filters, not included), and a water filter to remove chlorine taste. For best results, the carafe, mugs, and filter basket should be washed by hand, although the stainless-steel mugs are dishwasher-safe on the top rack. The coffeemaker measures 14-1/2 by 10 by 8-1/2 inches, and is covered by a two-year warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Your money's worth
I was sold on this unit for its price. The thermal carafe and travel mugs alone are worth more than its list price. A friend of mine has this unit, so I felt comfortable purchasing it. First off, to address some concerns, there is indeed trouble with dripping as noted in previous reviews. However, I don't feel that it's an unusual amount, considering this is a drip coffee maker. After my first few pots, I was able to minimize dripping to the point where I don't need to clean up after myself. Secondly, the issue of turning the coffee maker to fill the resevoir. I've found that I have no trouble filling it from the front. I can understand why people are having this trouble. It's a tall unit. It takes a bit of coordination. Finally, previous reviewers complained about the taste. I did a very standard cleaning, have not used the water filter, and have had no troubles with taste.

Con:
1. The unit is big and tall and is awkward on the counter.
2. Its capacity is 8 cups.
3. The cup indicator is on the INSIDE of the water resevoir and is hard to see, especially when filling.
4. It does drip. I can't deny that. But it is manageable.

Pro:
1. The thermal carafe is excellent. Preheat and you will have perfect hot coffee for 2-3 hours.
2. The travel mugs are handy. The 360 deg drinkability is surprisingly useless to me, but to each their own.
3. Clock timer is handy.
4. Easy to clean and easy to use.

Overall, I'd have to say that with its deficiencies, it's still the best value. The thermal carafe and the travel mugs alone make this coffee maker a good purchase. I'd recommend it if you're in the market for a thermal carafe coffee maker.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great value.
I've been using mine for almost three months. Preheating the carafe with tap water, it coffee stays quite hot for a couple hours, and drinkably hot for three or four hours. Yes, it does drip when one takes the lid off and tries for that last half a mug of coffee, but so what? (By the time it gets down to that point, the coffee is lukewarm anyway.)

It goes without saying that the coffee is not boiling hot, like a French press/plung pot, but that is the price one pays with any drip.

I mostly purchased this unit because of the versatility in brewing options, and they have proved quite useful. When one considers that the Thermos mugs alone cost $20 each, the price point isn't bad at all.

I was surprised to learn the Hamilton Beach and Proctor Silex are essentially the same company; had I know that, I probably wouldn't have bought this pot, but I'm glad I did. The only thing that probably does better in the thermal carafe market is a Capresso, which doesn't have the travel mugs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it
Not sure what some of the other reviewers are talking about- I have had great luck with this coffee pot. I have had no trouble unscrewing the lid, coffee tastes good, doesn't drip as long as you wait until it shuts off. I turn it on in the morning before I get into the shower, and it is ready when I am out. I do not pre heat the pot, but the coffee stays hot all day.

I really like this pot. I am getting ready to buy one for my mom.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pleased with the product ... why all the complaints?
I must say, I was surprised to see so many complaints about this coffeemaker! I have a Bunn unit a home, which I love, but I needed something new for the office. After years of dealing with a Brita water filter, coffee grinder, coffee maker and thermal carafe; I was ecstatic to pare this list down to just a coffee maker and a grinder. The biggest obstacle has been the price point of units offering a water filer AND a thermal carafe. This was the first unit I have seen for under $100. The thermal mugs are an added plus! I found the mugs a little awkward to drink from with the inward sloping lid, but it's just a personal option. Since I prefer to grind my coffee just before brewing, I really didn't think I would use the timer function. But, I find that it allows me to arrive at work with a carafe of hot water ... pre-heating my carafe for the upcoming pot of coffee. By doing this, the coffee is still very warm by the end of the day (in case I didn't have a chance to drink that last cup and want to enjoy it on the way home). The coffee it brews tastes fine in my opinion. Maybe the people who are complaining are using a poor quality coffee (I personally like Starbucks). When I reach for a second cup, I toss the used filter and put the basket back sideways until everything has a chance to air dry and prevent any funny tastes. I don't have an issue with filling the water reservoir, but I am filling it from a plastic jug and the unit is not on a counter under cabinets. Personally, I like having the markings in the reservoir so I don't have to pre-measure the water in the carafe. I haven't had an issue with the unit dripping either, but it's usually 10-15 minutes after I push the brew button before I reach for the carafe. Yes, the top isn't "easy" to unscrew with just the ridges along the edge, but I wouldn't say it was a problem. In my opinion, the coffee tastes fine, brews hot and stays hot (and doesn't cook and burn on a hot plate!). For the price, the unit is a great deal for the features it offers and the travel mugs are an added plus. I would recommend it for those looking for a reasonably-priced unit with a water filter AND a thermal carafe. In fact, I have considered replacing my Bunn (with hot plate) at home with another one of these units.

1-0 out of 5 stars A vile brew...
I'm writing to support Bad Taste's review. While there are definitely some design pros & cons to this coffee maker that are up for debate, those issue pale in comparison to the fact that it brews horrid coffee. My husband and I have been using a Braun for years and recently had to say goodbye. Like the previous reviewer, we wanted a thermal carafe without having to spend more than a moderate amount of money. I could really care less about the travel mugs, personally, but they are a nice bonus (that said, the lids are not well-suited for smaller mouths). On the design side, we've chosen to overlook the fact that it's a tall machine and drips a bit (there's no hot plate to drip on, so it's more of an annoyance than real big issue). We love that the carafe keeps coffee hot for hours. My husband brewed a pot at 8:00am that was still hot at 1:00pm.

Problem is...the stuff it brews is undrinkable. My husband likes coffee "regular" as those of us who grew up on the East Coast like to say...that is, full of milk n' sugar. I, however, like my French Roast black and bold, consequently I have nothing to mask the taste of the vile stuff this machine spits out. Nothing helps: we cleaned prior to use, as instructed; we've adjust both the grind and the amount; we've even adjusted the water level. All we've done is waste good coffee.

There are many people who view their morning cup as simply a necessary "pick me up" and really don't bother themselvs with the flavor or need add taste enhancements regardless. If that sounds like you, then you might not notice a problem. But if you truly love "good" coffee in it's full glory, skip this coffee maker. Ours is going back.

For the record, ours didn't come with the bonus filter, so that's not the culprit. We've been using the same old cone filters from Costco successfully for years.

To wrap up, I can't say "you get what you pay for" because there are $20 machines that brew better stuff than this. Personally, we're going for Braun #2...it's $49.99 here on Amazon, no fancy carafe, no travel mugs...but it brews great coffee. What more could you want? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Toss your Foreman grill NOW!
The Hamilton Beach Meal Maker Express is not only better designed and more sturdily made, it has more features, and BETTER features. After owning and using this marvel regularly for two years, I do nothing but rave about it to everyone I know.

Fast easy meal for one: 2 frozen chicken thighs, sliced onions and bell peppers. Set the cooker/timer for five minutes, flip chicken (I usually slice it into fajita strips at this point), move onions/peppers around on grill, add some salt and pepper, set timer for 8 minutes and DING! Dinner's ready!

Of course, cooking non-frozen food is quick and easy, too. And, if you've got a lot of mouths to feed, simply lay it flat and get twice the cooking surface.

As others have noted, cleanup is a breeze - just toss everything into the dishwasher if you're lazy (like me). And the grease collector is INSIDE the grill, so you'll never spill the grease all over your counter and floor, as so often happens with George Foreman's crummy shallow-grease-dish-on-the-counter design.

If you're looking for a superior countertop grill, you won't regret replacing your Foreman with the Hamilton Beach Meal Maker. It simply can't be beat. The price is right, too! ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Buying my 2nd
This used to be available as the G.E. Contact Grill. For whatever reason they discontinued it and Hamilton Beach took it on.

Smart move. I've had my G.E. model for nearly four years, using it almost every day. I've now literally worn it out. I'm buying the Hamilton Beach.

It has worked perfectly. Remember, adequate preheating for at least five minutes is essential.

Steaks, burgers, chicken, shrimp, scallops, kabobs, salmon steaks or filets, veggies, even grilled ham & cheese sandwiches. They all turn out great.

Clean-up is a breeze, because, unlike others, the grids are removeable and just go into the dishwasher, as does the recessed grease collector cup. What could be easier?

I honestly don't know what I would do if I didn't have this gem. In fact, I think I'm going to buy two this time. You know how these companies are. They just love to discontinue good products!

One small complaint: On my G.E., when the timer bell rings, the knob doesn't turn quite far enough to turn the unit off, as it should. I have to give it that extra little nudge so that the red light, and the heating elements, shut off. But that didn't happen until I'd used it about a 1000 times.

I hope whatever caused that has been corrected.

Otherwise, Happy Grilling, everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hamilton Beach Meal Maker Express
This grill KNOCKS OUT BIG GEORGE FOREMAN'S. This grill is a pleasure to use. It cooks steaks, burgers, chicken to perfection. I love the timer feature. But without a doubt the best feature of this grill in addition to its ease of use is how easy it is to clean. No scraping or having to use a roll of paper towels to clean this grill up. Simply pop out the grills and into the dishwasher they go. They come out crystal clean. NO MESS!!! This is a BEST BUY item for sure!

5-0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!
When I made my purchase I didn't realize how quick and easy it would be to prepare dinner! Frozen chicken breasts, steaks, pork chops - in or less than 10 minutes!! It is unbelievable and I would highly recommend it to everyone! Cleanup is so easy!

4-0 out of 5 stars Love this grill
I'm very pleased with how easy cleanup is on this grill. After use I just take a paper towel over the cooking surface to get the excess food particles & leftover grease off. After it's cooled remove the cooking sections & stick them in the dishwasher or just hand wash in a minute or 2
The right side doesn't cook as hot as the left side so halfway thru cooking I just switch the food around. My biggest complaint is that when grease flows into the drip pan it also seems to get under the grill somewhat & tends to burn there. To help eliminate this I fold a piece of aluminum foil over the drip opening.
Overall, I'm satisfied - It makes great hamburgers & chicken. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprising benefit - quieter!
Ordinarily I would not be particularly excited about odor-removing filters. However, I was surprised after installing my first replacement set of odor filters that my purifier (model 04163) ran much quieter at the lowest speed setting. I'm not entirely sure of the added electrical cost of running these filters (I have pet birds that generate a lot of dust and dander and the filters run 24/7), but it may be that the reduced fan speed to get the same air discharge will save me money. Nice!

Although this knife works as well as I would expect an electric

5-0 out of 5 stars Great buy... exceeded expectations
This was my first electric carving knife and it has been goodbye uneven chunks of meat since then. It is easy to use, clean and store. The blades are sharp, it is easy to manouvre and comfortable to hold. I am a small time caterer and was afraid to offer any thing that needed carving... but now I'm a happy slicer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Item!
After having a rechargeable knife that was not very "user friendly", I have enjoyed using this knife. It is ready to go the minute I plug it in. The case is very handy and the price is reasonable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Knife, fork, cute box-- it's a winner!
This is a really nice electric knife carving set. I bought it because it was such a good deal and also because i always find myself saying, "Gee, it would be much easier to cut this up if i had an electric knife." And now i have one. The nice storage box, not mentioned very well in description, makes it very easy to store. It is very annoying with other knives i have seen to have blades in one place, electrical part in another and carving fork somewhere else. this makes it very easy to store in one place. Steaks, burgers, hot dogs, fish, pork chops, French toast, sandwiches, hash browns, vegetables... The list goes on and on of foods and meals this compact countertop grill can cook on both sides simultaneously. A recipe booklet makes that clear, and even shows how a version of beef stroganoff can be prepared between the grill's top and bottom cooking grids in minutes. When the whole family sits down for a meal, or hungry friends turn up, the top opens flat, doubling the cooking surface to 216 square inches. (Each grid's effective cooking surface measures about 12-1/2 by 7 inches; closed, the grill--made of hard, bright, black plastic--measures 16-1/2 by 13 inches overall.) Other fine features: fats drain into dishwasher-safe drip tray for healthful cooking; timer shuts off grill automatically when cooking time elapses; dishwasher-safe, nonstick grids remove for easy cleanup; and cord wraps into bottom for storage. --Fred Brack ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Beats George's Hands Down
We subscribe to Consumer Reports and read all about these types of grills. The George Foreman and the Hamilton Beach MealMaker Express Grill seam to be the most popular but the HB beats ALL the competition hands down!
Many people who already have the George Foreman grill all have told us they hate it because it's so difficult to clean. With the removable grills on the HB model, this problem simply does not exist. We love how fast this grill cooks chicken and steak. The best part is that the meats are so juicy and delicious.
I highly recommend the Hamilton Beach MealMaker Express Grill.

4-0 out of 5 stars George is hotter but Hamilton Beach still wins
When i first got the grill, i was very disappointed. Whilst it's larger and has the removable grids, it was not as hot as my old George Foreman and it seemed as if my foods were steaming. However, after several months, i've discovered a few secrets to cooking on it and am much happier.
1. preheat it for a minimum of 5 minutes, maybe 8.
2. don't overload it all at once
3. if your food is very lean (or skinless) it won't sear well right away. Marinading will help. Also, if you spray your meat with Pam or drizzle alittle olive oil on it (sounds gross but what the heck) it'll help sear it.
Bottom line is: Even though my old George cooked hotter and faster, my new Hamilton Beach remains champ due to ease of cleaning. I love the convenience of popping out those grids!

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best grills out there
We're on our second Hamilton Beach grill and we love its simplicity and versatility. As a dad who does most of the weekday dinners, this grill has helped me go from Good to Great, at least in the eyes of my wife and 3 picky kids.

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars, is that in our experience, the nonstick coating wears off rather quickly, and it then becomes a slight pain to clean. I'm willing to concede that could happen because we might use it three times a day (breakfast sausage, lunch hot dogs*, dinner salmon) and four or five days a week. In any case, you can order replacement grills by mail -- no web orders :-( -- from the company for about $13 each.

Do yourself and your family a favor: get THIS grill AND a good book (like "Grill Power") on how to marinate and grill steaks, chops, chicken, lamb, fish, shrimp, scallops, etc.
You'll wonder why you didn't do so a long time ago.

*Even if you're not a hot-dog lover, once you've had them or kielbasa grilled, not boiled, you'll never want to go back.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the BEST
I have never owned this kind of grill before - I don't know how I lived without it before. I use it every day - It's fast, easy to use, easy to clean and makes great tasting food. IF YOU ARE ON THE ATKINS DIET - or THE SOUTH BEACH DIET or any diet in which you have to prepare a lot of protein - chicken, fish, meat, etc - then this is a MUST HAVE grill. It makes that food taste fabulous with nothing added. And you don't have to cook it for an hour. Grilled Chicken breast takes 5 (five) minutes! Same for hamburger or steak. Not having time to cook is no longer an excuse for me to eat junk food.

This grill is GREAT. I cannot say enough good things about it.
I bought mine some months ago from Amazon - and though mine still works great - I came back to get another one as a backup - just in case anything ever happens to this one. I use this grill every single day - and sometimes twice a day.

And it's totally non-stick - it's even more non-stick than most non-stick pans. I'm not sure how they did that - but I'm impressed. GO FOR IT!

5-0 out of 5 stars Could not live without it
I have had mine for several months now and use it frequently. It is excellent for meats and fatty fish (salmon and the like) and does a good job of cooking vegetables, hot dogs, and other sausages as well. I have cooked frozen prepared chicken wings without defrosting them and have gotten excellent results.

Cleanup is generally easy. I get off some of the gunk with a soft brush under running water and then wash the grills in the dishwasher.

When this one breaks, I shall get another the next day. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Here's an electric appliance that provides a food processor's principal function--chopping and mincing--at a bargain price. Add compactness and ease of use to the price, and the sum is a handy, inexpensive tool for one- and two-person households, where efficiency is more important than large-scale, elaborate food preparation. At 135 watts, the motor is powerful enough to chop or mince vegetables, fruits, herbs, cheese, nuts, chocolate, cooked meats, and bread. The tough plastic bowl holds 3 cups and is calibrated in cups, ounces, liters, and milliliters, and the bowl, lid, and stainless-steel blade are dishwasher-safe. This lightweight chopper is only 6-3/4 by 5 by 7 inches and has a hideaway cord to reduce counter clutter. --Fred Brack ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars I returned the item- as soon as I tried it
I "tried" chopping slices (small ones) of green peppers and was disappointed as the chopper wasn't powerful enough to do that simple job. <br /> Looks nnice but....

3-0 out of 5 stars Just OK
For the price it works fairly well. Don't fill past the 1/2 full level or take a very long time on high to get the food smooth. If you don't want the food smooth, only chunky/chopped, then this is a good product for that.

3-0 out of 5 stars Is it worth the price?
Within three months of receiving this item (as a wedding present)
one of the hinges on the lid fell off. The unit still functions properly, but I would think twice before spending [the money].

3-0 out of 5 stars Great for small jobs only
This food processor is tiny and is great for chopping veggies and mincing garlic. The blades attachment, however, did cause a small leak when blending liquids. Also, you can't leave it running for more than a few seconds, because the motor starts to emit a burning sound.

Overall, good for quick kitchen jobs and it's a bargain...I mean, those manual Zyliss food choppers cost that much.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing
I was so excited at the prospect of having a 3-cup mini chopper. I thought it would be ideal for hummus, which I hate to scrape out of my blender. However, it was very disappointing. On either speed, it just seems to chop what is in the center, so the stuff on the inside stays on the inside and the outside stuff stays on the outside--unchopped. If I wanted to take the lid off every two seconds and move everything around, I'd use the blender, no? I nearly pureed some red pepper, trying to get it all chopped. I have a 2 cup mini chopper (Procter-Silex, I think) that is really much better at consistent chopping. I never had to take the top off of it. Unfortunately, the bowl got warped in the dishwasher (even though it claimed to be dishwasher safe) and the lid does not fit tightly now, making an occasional mess with liquids and crumbs. Still, even warped, I find myself using the old one instead of this new one--it is really that bad!! ... Read more
