Amazon.com Review

Since the first Rowenta iron in 1912, the company’s clothing-care products have been on the forefront of innovative technology. The 1600-watt Perfect Steam iron continues Rowenta’s exacting standards with top-shelf construction and truly helpful features. Designed to iron dry or with variable steam, the iron has fine-tunable settings that let you choose heat according to fabric type, then set the steam level. The Intra-Steam system pushes horizontal steam deep into fabric. The iron also steams vertically for hanging clothes and draperies. A steam-burst button lets you blast stubborn wrinkles, and a spray function spritzes fabric as you go. Equipped with LED indicator lights, the handle-mounted electronic temperature control indicates when the soleplate is ready, too hot, too cool, or in automatic shut-off mode. All controls are easy to set, sturdy in construction, and unlikely to slip.

The Perfect Steam comes with a platinum soleplate for effortless glide and incredible durability. It has a sleek teardrop shape, a full-length button channel, and an anti-drip design. Rowenta also equips the iron with three-way automatic shut-off: after 8 minutes if left vertically, 30 seconds if left horizontally, and 30 seconds if tipped over. Large and comfortable in the hand, the iron holds up to 13 ounces of water at a time in a translucent tank. The tank’s opening is among the cleverest on the market--a tidy lid pushes in for filling and releases for closure. The iron also comes with an anti-calc system to trap scale and deposits that could interfere with its performance. Measuring 12 by 5 by 6-3/4 inches, the Perfect Steam is made in Germany, and has a full one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard

From the Manufacturer

The DX-9800 has been engineered around major technical innovations of the three core functions of an iron: heat, steam, and the soleplate. The Intra Steam system "pulses" the steam, creating the perfect cycle of steam and pressing. The Thermo Control system uses an electronic sensor that measures and maintains an even temperature in the soleplate.  The Platinium soleplate combines outstanding glide and non-stick, non-scratch properties. Its stainless steel core coated with ultra-thin silicate coating for a tougher, smoother surface with excellent non-stick and non-scratch properties.

The Next Level in Irons

The revolutionary Intra Steam system forces pressurized steam deep into the garment, "pulsing" the steam at regular intervals for the perfect cycle of steam and pressing. The DX-9800 has a number of other features designed to make ironing easier and more successful. The iron’s Thermo Control is an advanced electronic thermostat for accurate control of soleplate temperature. Also, the Anti-Drip function helps prevent spitting and leaking when thermostat is on a low setting, while the Anti Calc function neutralizes harmful minerals, extending the life of the iron, and the burst of vertical steam feature provides effective wrinkle removal on all types of fabrics.

This iron, like all Rowenta irons, is ergonomically designed for comfort, with thumb grips and index finger grooves, and easily used by both left and right handed user,. Its new comfort handles is soft and resilient, with silicon rubber pads that provide support and relieve pressure at key contact points between hand and handle. The non-slip texture and pattern provides a firm grip for precision control.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best iron out there!
I have tried many irons, most of which I passed on to my kids because they just didn't do the trick, spit water or soleplate got gunky. The Rowenta Perfect DX9800 is fantastic! I like the weight of it, and the steam penetration is the best out there...makes short work of wrinkles. I love it, wouldn't own any thing else! It's worth the extra money to have a quality iron.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Cadillac of Irons makes ironing fun!
I'm a guy, and I have to admit, when my girlfriend convinced me to purchase a new iron to upgrade my small travel iron for my shirts, I was skeptical and felt that spending more money was just wasteful. But I had a coupon, someone I knew recommended the Rowenta brand, and so I purchased this thing.

wow! It does a great job! Ironing is much easier and actually a little fun, as crazy as that sounds. This generates a ton of steam, it heats up very quickly and has a light to tell you when the it's ready for use. It is virtually spillproof as the there is a spring loaded top on the hole where you pour the water into the iron. It's heavy enough to provide some solid weight for the clothes, but not too heavy to make it difficult to move.

If you're in the market for an iron, try this one out and you won't be sorry!

3-0 out of 5 stars Rowenta leaks water
I have owned 2 other rowentas loved them but I think the new tank design is not very good because water leaks out when you are ironing. I liked the other design better. However it does iron beautifully.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy it unless you can return it without penalty !!!
LEAKS IMMEDIATELY FROM THE OPENING FOR THE WATER WHILE YOU IRON !!! Did anyone ever test it when it was being designed ? To make matters worse, I didn't buy it from Amazon, and can only return it for store credit minus restocking fee. And what am I going to do with this store credit ??? Buy another Rowenta iron ?

    5-0 out of 5 stars I'm a new man
Would you believe an Iron can change your life? This beauty have psychologically affected me tremendously, from someone who HATES ironing into a man who creates an occasion for ironing. One thing I would say is the cord is too short I had to buy an extension cord to use it comfortably. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Steaming in the Carribean
I first used the Rowenta Steam Generator a couple of weeks ago while on a Radisson Cruise ship in the Caribean a couple of weeks ago. It was so much quicker than a regular iron and did such a professional job that I was actually enjoying ironing! There is tons of steam and that is what makes the process so fast and the results so professional looking. I bought one as soon as I got back and love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally...the Perfect Iron
Ok I will be the first to review - and from a guy :) Let me start off with I iron all of my clothes which my wife stipulated before we got married :) Ok so being a guy I did not want to spend hours ironing my shirts plus I wanted them to look as if they came from the dry cleaners. I had the Rowenta Professional and honestly it was horrible. So I almost did not go with Rowenta but as I researched steam generators it came down to this and Euro-Pro. I decided to stick with Rowenta and I am glad I did. My ironing is a snap. The steam that comes out of this machine is unbelievable and that is what removes wrinkles. I highly recommend this iron if you want to cut your ironing in half. Also be sure and call Rowenta customer service and see if there is a rebate. I called with questions and then asked about a rebate they then sent out a form just from Rowenta - 20 bucks. Helps with the sting of a $200 iron :)

Pros:
1.STEAM!!! Lots of it and very powerful.
2.You can steam hanging garments.
3.Big water basin in the base so no more running out of water

Cons:
1. It is bulky. Can't hang on the wall :)
2. After about 15 irons you do need to rinse out the boiler. Very easy but price you pay for the steam.
3.Creates a rumble noise every once in awhile while the water is being injected into the boiler. ... Read more

This model eases the burden of heavy ironing with loads of features, beginning with a dimpled, polished stainless-steel soleplate for a smooth glide and a large transparent water tank for interruption-free work. The Luxe also has 1,440 watts of power and automatically shuts off in 30 seconds if left horizontal or tipped over (in 8 minutes if left vertical). A self-cleaning button flushes out mineral buildup in the water tank. Operational features on this iron include everything imaginable. This iron also has a double row of steam holes and an antidrip system for when the thermostat is on low. Rowenta hasn't overlooked convenience, either. 5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth the money!
I have owned three Rowenta irons over the past 12 years. The oldest of the three (12 years old) has been dropped or knocked of the ironing table numerous times by my teenagers. Miraculously, it still works. The stainless steel air glide bottom with extra steam jets help to take a lot of the work out of ironing. The iron's weight is a plus in eliminating repeated motion over the same area to remove wrinkles and dry spray starch. The automatic shutoff is ideal for busy family members. It costs just a little more to go first class.

4-0 out of 5 stars Love this iron
This is my second Rowenta Professional Iron. I was tired of the small, lightweight, low steaming domestic irons, and was very pleased after purchasing the Rowenta. I iron at least 3 hours per week, and definitely need a good iron. It does a beautiful job on table linens due to it's weight, size, and great steaming. To fill it with water is very easy, and it has a little cover to prevent the water from escaping. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the first iron only lasted 6 years. Maybe I am from the "old school" where appliances lasted longer, but I didn't expect to replace it so soon. However, it didn't prevent me from replacing it with the same iron.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth Every Penny!
After going through many irons(Black and Decker, Sunbeam, etc..), I finally starting looking at the Rowenta line. I had read reviews of how good they were, but the prices always kept me away. I decided to give the DM-880 a try and I can tell you that it's worth every penny. Glides over any material very smoothly, better than any iron I have used before. It holds allot of water and has a nice pointed tip that gets into hard to iron areas. I also like the auto shut off feature. The Rowenta also has more of a quality feel than other irons I've previously owned. If you iron allot, like I do, do yourself a favor and buy a Rowenta.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous iron if you hate to do it!
This iron really does cut your ironing time in half. My husband is 6'5" and his shirts are HUGE! Using a cheap iron just doesn't do the job and by the time I had half the shirt done, it would be mussed again by the time I got the other half finished because of their size. With this guy, they STAY pressed and don't look like they came from a rag bag. It saves a bunch on cleaning bills and it is just so easy to use. I love to use it when I'm sewing and it just makes things so much faster and easier. I have an old Black & Decker which I loved because it was so heavy, but it took forever to iron out anything. This Rowenta does it in seconds and it just looks great.

2-0 out of 5 stars kiss your delicates good buy
I bought it based on consumer reports great ratings, and all they said was true. I did not liked that it was really heavy, it took for ever to cool and even on the lower setting it was really hot and burned my delicate shirt after that the plate had to be cleaned with a special product since the fabric staked to it. I returned it and got full refund. As another reviewer said if you are a man or someone ironing male shirts this is the iron for you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Travel Iron!
I travel quite a bit with my fiance and we always had wrinkled clothes after my poor packing job in our suitcase. I decided to get this travel iron to help and I have not been disappointed!

This iron is tiny (weighs I think 1.7 pounds) and works extremely well! It heats up just as well as my at home iron! One of the other great features is the vertical steamer, which works extremely well too. It is very portable, especially since the handle folds to lie flat. It comes in a nice travel pouch as well.

The cost is extremely reasonable too, especially if it shows up in your gold box! With free shipping its a real bargin. I highly recommend this iron, you will not be disappointed!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little iron!
I purchased this iron to use with sewing projects when I travel. It provides a generous amount of steam, is very easy to use, and is lightweight and easy to pack. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars LIGHT AND HANDY
This iron was sturdy and reliable to use in the US and Europe, still I recommend that if you are going to the Middle East or Africa, you do not take it with you, since the current over there fried mine.

5-0 out of 5 stars I finally found a travel iron that actually works!!!
Over the years I have purchased a number of travel irons, only to be disappointed when they did not do the job. I resigned myself to wearing wrinkled clothes on vacation. But I have to say the Rowenta has made a believer out of me. Unlike most travel irons, this heats just as well as an home iron and it does an excellent job when it is used as a vertical steamer. And the nylon carry case is a plus.

I cannot recommend this product enough. Buy with confidence.

5-0 out of 5 stars Travel Sharp
As a veteran hotel jockey, I try to unfold our suitcase to find a travel mess with our clothing. The travel inon from Rowenta has been not only a travel saver, but a business saver. We look as great as (or at least our clothes) possible. The multi-function of the steam is the best we have encountered. An added bonus, was is the free shipping with a purchase over [money] with Amazon.com. A truly winning combination. We could not sing enough praise about this product. It even looks great! The price at Amazon is even the best we have found. A travel jockey must! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Iron that leaks
This iron leaked from the sides immediately after its first usage. The water tank was half full and everything leaked out from the base and it was a mess. I am never going to try Rowenta again. Very poor quality! I should have been more careful and read the reviews.

1-0 out of 5 stars One year life span for $50 iron
I wish I had read these reviews before purchasing this iron. I've been through 2 of these dogs in 3 years. I exchanged the first one at the retailer when it began leaking and stopped heating after 8 months. I had so much faith in German engineering I thought it must have been a fluke. The second one developed the same symptoms after 13 months. It worked sporadically until my husband hurled it at the floor in utter disgust. Apparently, the engineers have put all of their skills into producing a product that will survive until just past the date the warranty expires. Bravo on their success! Next I tried a $19 iron, but the quality is unacceptable once you're accustomed to the heavy European styles. Yesterday I came home with the T-Fal, and it is comparable to the Rowenta in terms of weight and features. If this fails we're switching to permanent press...

2-0 out of 5 stars Great...for a while
I've owned this iron for two years, and for the most part it has been great. About a month ago, it began mysteriously turning on and off while I would iron, making a 20 minute ironing job about 40 minutes. Well tonight it began SPARKING from where the iron meets the cord! What a danger! I have emailed Rowenta and am calling them in the morning. Be wary of this product. I know Rowenta is great for the most part, and it was the best iron I ever used until about a month ago. Again, be careful if buying this iron.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nothing Bad......Yet
I purchased this iron on advice from a co-worker that Rowenta made very good irons. The price was a little more than I wanted to pay, but after years of less expensive irons performing poorly, I decided to splurge. I intended to iron one article of clothing to see how the iron performed. I was impressed to say the least and ended up ironing all my work clothes for the week, which is something I NEVER do. I especially enjoyed the way the iron seemed to effortlessly glide over the clothing. The burst of steam is an option, but enough steam was produced by setting the variable steam control to the maximum setting. As it stands, my money was well spent.

1-0 out of 5 stars Rowenta Iron
I purchased a Rowenta Iron 5 Years ago from QVC. I proably used it a total of 20 hours and it started leaking and would not turn on. I would like to know where I can get it repaired and the estimated cost to do so. Plese e-mail this infomation to me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible Quality! Steer clear.
My wife and I had a pretty nice Rowenta steamer that we got as a wedding gift about 4 years ago. Well, that one didn't have the dual voltage switch and when we were in Europe, we basically fried it (our fault - we thought the converter would work with it, but apparently not). Anyway, we replaced it with this model last fall. Big mistake. The first thing I noticed is this one is made in Mexico, the old one was made in Germany. Also much cheaper quality - the parts, the fit and finish. We turned it on and it never heated up. Took it back and brought #2 home. This one heated up, got so hot that it emitted a scary smell (like when you clean an oven) and the plastic cover plate got too hot to the touch. Based on reading the manual and the website, I don't think this is supposed to happen. At any rate, we were never able to get it to emit steam, no matter how long we waited or how much we pressed the button. Back to the store to exchange it for #3. This time we made the clerk try it out to see if it was just us. It wasn't. None of the store personnel were able to get it to work. When they gave us a new one, I asked them to try it as well. Same result. They had to open yet another new one out of the box (we're up to #4 now, if you're still trying to keep count) which worked. Admittedly I was pretty leery at this point, but we were leaving on a trip in less than a week and they stocked no other steamer models. So I took it home and it went with us to Japan. Worked fine the first few times, but after about a week of travel it began to fall apart. Now it leaks profusely and the steam output is about half what it once was. I contacted Rowenta but the hassle to box this thing up, send it to the service center in San Diego, etc. is just not worth it to me. Needless to say, I am through with buying Rowenta.

2-0 out of 5 stars Two of these reviews are fake
Try to spot them. They have the same hype and cheerfulness. I will put the average rating to keep the status quo.

4-0 out of 5 stars What do you expect?
I bought one, and I like it. This is ideal for travel or for someone like me who hates to get out the ironing board while getting ready for work in the morning. Unlike some steamers, it can be used with regular tap water. One fill of the water reservoir should get you through around 4-5 items.
Please don't think you're going to get a professional steamer for $40! Notice that none of the portable steamers on Amazon have high ratings. It won't make your clothes flawless, but it's pretty darn good -- you can steam things on hangers or just throw them on the bed -- you won't have to worry about new creases appearing on the reverse side of the clothes like you do with your iron.
Oh, and just take the faceplate cover off, it isn't very useful.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it
I purchased this product to steam my Borsalino hats. After 5 uses, it stopped steaming. Rowenta told me to put water in it and hold it upside down and press the steamer button 4-5 times. I tossed it in the garbage. Extremely disappointed. Sure I could have sent it in for repair, but that would have cost more that the amount I paid for it originally.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a piece of garbage
I find it ammusing that anyone could write a good review of this product. I travel quite frequently on business and I always carry a steamer, I purchased this one and let me tell you it is pretty useless, the amount of steam that cmoes out of this unit would not take simple wrinkles out, while traveling It would take me a good 45 minutes ( I was desperate ) to get a passable shirt. I did use it as an iron for little bit till I gave up and stopped carrying it. Note , it has a plastic attachment on the head for the brush part, mine broke the first week (very flimsy)and at that point the appliance is useless as a steamer since you honestly need to brush your garment with this frustrating tool. ... Ready to take on everything from white bread to bagels tohamburger buns, this two-slice toaster has extra-large slots (1-3/8inches wide, 5 inches long, and 5-1/2 inches deep) so it can fitwhatever you need toasted. You can place pastries, croissants, orrolls on the top of the toaster and the tray quickly and evenly warmsthem without drying them out. Special settings include a bagelfunction, which toasts only the cut side of the bagel while warming itthroughout, and a defrost function, which adjusts the toasting time toaccommodate frozen breads or waffles. A seven-position control lets youchoose the degree of browning you prefer on your toasted goods. Inaddition, a Stop button allows you to finish toasting and eject yourbread at any time. The toaster's lift is extra high, so it's easy toremove smaller pieces of bread without burning your fingers. 5-0 out of 5 stars The Right Tool for the Job
Let's face it: no one really likes to iron. But, since you have to do it, you might just as well make it easy on yourself and use the right tool for the job: the Rowenta DM-580 Precision Iron. It's lightweight, easy to use, has a non skid bottom to stand it upright, shuts off automatically when not used, and slides across material like a Zamboni on an ice rink. It almost makes ironing fun.

1-0 out of 5 stars Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me!
I received my first Rowenta for a wedding present three years ago. My mother had one, so I thought I had a great iron. One and a half years later it is leaking and putting brown spots on everything. The holes were clogged and the steamer no longer worked. So, I decided to go and purchase a new, better Rowenta. I "upgraded" to the Precision and it did not even last a year. Within 5-6 months the steam no longer worked and my clothes were getting soaked. The kicker is that while I was ironing I noticed that the wrinkles were not coming out. I pressed harder and still nothing. I felt of the clothes and they were not hot. The thing just quit! The lights were still on, but no heat. Plus, I did follow all the instuctions. I used tap water, cleaned the plate, used the self-cleaning feature, but still all of these troubles. I ran as far away from Rowenta as possible. They are not going to get the chance to jip me again!

1-0 out of 5 stars Rowenta's poor customer service
I owned this iron for six months when I started having problems with it leaking excess water on my clothes. I called Rowenta, and they had me send it in for service. Most people only have one iron, so this was a real inconvenience. It was repaired; three months later I had the same problem. Rowenta's customer service representative was extremely rude, complacent about my recurring problem, and gave invalid excuses for the malfunction. He told me to send the iron in again. It would cost me another $10 to do so; and, again, they were not going to pay for postage. So, after deciding I did not want to go without my iron again and investing a total of $20 in postage I opted to throw it in the garbage. I now own a Euro-Pro and am extremely pleased with it.

2-0 out of 5 stars No on and off switch
This could have been the iron that I've been looking for but it didn't make the grade. I bought this iron because it had an automatic off switch and was a pretty heavy duty iron. It barely made it out of the box when I discovered that and it has no on/off switch. That's right, no on and off switch. Every time that you use the iron you have to unplug it from the wall. I iron nearly everyday and leave my iron set up so I will continue my search.

1-0 out of 5 stars Garbage
"Don't waste your money or time. Absolute WORST iron we've ever owned. "Anti-Drip" is an unbelievable joke; leaks profusely. Only one month old. Spurts, crackles and LEAKS large amounts of water. GARBAGE!!
Avoid this product at all costs. Yes, Rowenta did offer to let me send it back to them so they can test it; turn around time will be 2-3 weeks. What do I do to press the families clothes in the meantime. Garbage that has caused an extreme inconvienence and hardship. My choice now is to have everyone wear wrinkled clothing for the next few weeks, or go out and buy another iron. Please don't waste your money with this company. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

When an iron’s not enough or may harm fabric, the Rowenta 1500-watt commercial garment steamer steps in with a powerful design that’s kind to clothes. Ready to go in just two minutes, the steamer has a flexible 5-foot hose with a cool-touch handle and a wide mouth with six steam portals for excellent dispersion. The extra-large, 128-ounce transparent tank is designed for commercial-grade output, so you can steam a closetful before refilling. It locks into place when in use and unlatches simply for removal. A convenient swivel hanger atop the sturdy aluminum pole supports garments while you’re steaming and the hose head between uses. Two included brush attachments open fabric and upholstery weave for better steam penetration, and Rowenta also throws in a lint brush. Other nice details include a foot-operated power switch, a ready-indicator light, maneuverable casters, and automatic shut-off for safety. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars review from I hate to iron
I bought the steamer in hopes of ironing less. I am a nurse and my uniforms just need touch ups usually. I was very happy with my steamer at first. I had the steamer less than a year and the telescoping metal pole broke. I am still waiting for a replacement at $20. The poles are back-ordered so obviously lots of them break. I also noticed when I was done with the steamer and emptied the water there was some water residue left in the machine. I first got a washcloth to soak it up and the water was still very hot. I have yet to find a way to empty the old water in the machine. I think it is an o.k. steamer, certainly not a professional or commercial grade.

1-0 out of 5 stars Returned to the store
I had high hopes for this steamer after reading the many reviews, however i recently returned it to the store. It is cumbersome, sporadic heat/steam and doesnt work on heavier garments so I had to iron things anyway! It sat in the corner for most of the time simply taking up space and gathering dust. I am going to look at the portable jiffy steamers after a travelling friend raved about hers.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed
I have four teenagers who love to wear clothes that need to be pressed. I thought this would save me a lot of time. It did an o.k job on most of their clothes but my clothes looked wilted and you could still see the where the wrinkles had been. I am sending it back.

5-0 out of 5 stars I hate ironing, but sure love laundry!
First of all, gotta mention the need for the 1.25" wrench to put it together. Yeah, I guess I could have tried to hand-tighten it, but no insurance wouldn cover steam burns if the 1500W steamer blew the hose off. I filled it with plain tap water. The container is a little on the bulky side, so it can't be filled with the bathroom sink.

Turning it on was easy with a switch that can be foot operated. Steam was coming out, as promised, within 3 minutes. Tip for those in small rooms -- it took me about five minutes to realize that I should have opened the window before starting!!!

Steaming clothes is pretty easy. I spent over an hour playing with all sorts of clothes and only carelessly scalded myself a few times (usually when working the steamer from the inside of the shirt). In a nutshell, it is simple to use and works really well, but don't expect miracles.

The Rowenta is pretty quick and I could get through a shirt in about five minutes. It won't look freshly pressed or anything, but it's not like I could do much better with an iron in five minutes. A worn or washed shirt could easily look freshened up in that little bit of time. Just passing the head over the chest area produced immediate results. I did the right side before the left side and you could easily see a difference. A little bit of work on the sleeves and the back, and the shirt was ready to head back into the closet.

My major areas of difficulty included getting enough tension on certain areas for the steam to force wrinkles open and working on the bottom of the shirt. The steamer took care of simple wear-and-tear wrinkles, but I'd have problems working out sharp creases in the shoulder region and where the shirt is tucked in. I guess that's to be expected because the steamer head doesn't work like a a magic wand, where I pass the head over the area and presto -- it's all straightened out! It is still a little frustrating and will just take some time to figure out the proper technique. Secondly, the garment tower only stands about five feet tall. I hung the shirt in a hanger off the tower and the bottom of the shirt is only a couple feet off the ground. It's a little uncomfortable and hard to easily access that area, especially when the hose will start to gurgle if you have it down there too long (from condensation).

I also tried a pair of pants and again, it's not easy to access all the areas of the pants. They did work getting some kinks out of a hanging pair of wrinkled khakis, but didn't get them all out. Definitely an improvement, but the pants were kind of thick, so it may have been an unfair test.

All in all, I'm impressed with the steamer. As mentioned before, it won't work miracles and shouldn't be compared to a conventional iron. I don't think I could iron a shirt much better, so I usually don't iron my clothes. But if I can refresh or liven up wrinkled shirts at five minutes/garment, I'd say it's good money spent in the long run.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dear Rowenta: Make a Taller Clothes' Pole!
I've purchased this product about 3 weeks ago. I was extremely tempted by the very reliable Jiffy brand but could not quite justify the price for their pro model. So, I took a stab at the 7800. It's wattage is identical to the Jiffy, meaning, its steaming power is equal. The water tank heats up as described and the steam exudes wonderfully. The extra attachments are nice perks. The biggest drawback, as with the Jiffy and any other brand I've seen, is the 5'3" pole. I mean, who designs these things??? Try hanging a pair of pants with 34 inseam and go to town steaming. Like with any other steamer, when you lower the handle down too far, the gurgling starts. You have to straighten the hose and elevate the handle in order to free condensation build up. What is wrong with making a sectional pole that's adjustable to 6-feet? Duh.
Other than that, don't hesitate to purchase this product, ladies and gents. You'll be delighted with it. And, I recommend purchasing the product at www.smallappliance.com. (No, I'm not employed with them. They are in Miami; I'm in L.A.). I suggest purchasing from them because Rowenta offers only a 1 year warranty. Go through smallappliance.com and they'll throw in a free extra year warranty. And, uh... by the way... shipping is free. Only took about 5 days to get my product.

Amazon.com Review

Bagel lovers will appreciate the extra-wide, extra-deep slots on this two-slice toaster. In addition, when the bagel setting is selected, the toaster browns only the cut side of the bagel, heating the rest of it but leaving it moist and chewy. Another ingenious feature is the metal nonstick warming platform on top of the toaster; bread or pastries laid here horizontally warm through without toasting. Sleek and handsome in design, the toaster features cool-touch sides, an ultra-high lift for removing small items, and a removable crumb tray for catching those loose bits of crust and raisins. Seven browning settings toast everything from iced pastries to dense homemade bread, and the defrost setting automatically adjusts to brown frozen slices. The stop/eject button lets the impatient and hungry grab toast to go. A one-year warranty covers the toaster against defects. --Ann Bieri ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars HIGH PRICE+HIGH EXPECATIONS =BIG DISAPPOINTMENT
I bought this because of using a Rowenta iron for a few years and knowing that the extra $ for it was well spent. Also, after reading reviews from this site and reading its high ratings from other people who had purchased it. If we don't have a defective one then everybody who gave a 4 or 5 rating is insane!! I bought the new one because my girlfriend was tired of the one I owned for 10 years and I thought Rownta would make a bombproof unit like their irons. It is the most uneven toaster I have ever used. I could care less if we paid $15-20 that would be expected but considering their price no way. I'm in the process of returning, I'm going to try to get another one and see if it was faulty but I'm not holding my breath. They need to stick to irons, diversifing is diworsifing.

2-0 out of 5 stars Wait until it goes on sale... 50% off
Our old Black & Decker wasn't doing the job anymore. So after checking out all the different toasters I decided to purchase this one due to the rave reviews it got. Maybe my standards are too high or I just expected more from a $60.00 toaster.
The high points are that it has wide enough slots for bagels. They don't jam, touch, or cook onto the heating elements. The warming feature is okay, but nothing to write home about.

The one thing that urks me is that for $60.00 I would have expected my beagels to be evenly toasted and they're not. They turn out exactly the way they did in my old toaster... golden on the top and burnt on the bottom. If you push the bagel button you'll get the above described top and a doughy bottom. I ended up starting the toaster in toast mode, wait 1/2 way throught the cycle, and then push the bagel button in order to not end up with crusty on the top and dough on the bottom.
Like I said, it could just be me, but I don't feel that it's worth the money.

Update:
July 10, 2004
After using this toaster now for a few months, I'm demoting it from from 3 to 2 stars (it does look nice). In the beginning I felt that some of the draw backs of this toaster could have been due to user error. I now know that it's not the case and regret paying so much for so little.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very uneven toaster
Based on the previous reviews we purchased this toaster, primarily because the slots accommodate bagels. It looks OK and reasonably well made, though the gray components are a rather flimsy plastic. But what a disappointment! This is the most uneven toaster we have ever experienced. The problem seems to be the outer heating elements. The inner elements (in the center between the two slots) are the typical flat metal filaments. However the outer element (on the outboard side of each slot) is a single ceramic rod about a 1/2" in diameter, which is positioned horizontally in the lower third of the slot. So, if you toast something long enough to give it some color you will find the lower half is dark while the upper half is virtually untouched. We sent it back.

4-0 out of 5 stars Toasting Nirvana
I got to tell you, I have spent some serious money buying toasters. My last misadventure was with the Cuisinart 4-slice LCD. That was a complete waste of money. We bought a DeLonghi 4-slice and took it back the next day. After reading the reviews of the Rowenta 2-sclice, we decided to give it a try (after all they make the best irons); we searched out the four slice version and bought it online. It toasts evenly, consistently between uses, and the warming feature is really cool. It also heats very fast. We finally believe that we got our money's worth at $100, without stepping up to the $350 toasters. The only downside is that you can not fit oddly sized slices of artisan breads into the slots. So, I have to cut them in half. I'll get over it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rowenta Toaster is Great!!
This is the BEST toaster I've ever had. It's great for bagels, toast and Pop Tarts. The best thing is that it allows you to lift the toast up high, so you can remove it without burning your fingers. I've used this toaster every day since buying it and is a pleasure making toast first thing in the morning. Cleanup is a snap, with a crumb tray that pulls out easily and allows the crumbs to be dumped in the trash. Most things toast perfectly on the "2" setting, so there's a lot of wiggle room to make toast dark...if you like it that way. I have not yet used the defrost feature, but it's nice to know it's there. This toaster rocks and I highly recommend it. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars More of a warmer than a toaster
A well made unit that simply does not toast very well. The problem is that the slots are so wide, anything narrow, such as waffles ends up too far away from the heating elements. I had to set it on maximum to brown frozen waffles. Even then the results were uneven. Each of the four slots has a grid style heating element on one side and a single horizontal bar element on the other. This must have done for a reason. Maybe it's designed for warming units on the top rack. The effect though, is uneven toasting. Disappointing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Toaster or SUV?
The photo just doesn't do justice to the sheer monsterous size of the unit. It's got the proportions of a microwave oven and dominates my kitchen counter. Fortunately, it is a Good Toaster, so I overlook its aprawling presence. The toaster works like a champ, but for the price, it had damn well better be capable of simple tasks like browning two sides of bread at the same time. Gee, if you choose, it will only brown one side of the bread. So far so good, but if anything goes worng with it you will hear from me again.

2-0 out of 5 stars uneven toasting
for the price of this toaster, the very least it could do was toast evenly. unfortunately that's not the case. i always have to flip it upside-down, inside-out to the other side for some additonal toasting before it's even. the only reason i'm not returning it is because i don't want to waste more money exchanging it.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Rowenta toaster is a winner!
This Rowenta toaster has everything I want and lives up to the Rowenta reputation. The wide slots hold the biggest bagels and toasts them just the way bagels should be toasted. The control levers with the "high-lift" position now make it possible to get the toaster tarts out without breaking them. Also, Toaster Strudels and frozen waffles are easy to get right as well as get out without sticking your finger into the slots. The removable crumb trays make life easier and you can't miss with the large choice of browning control levels. The rewarming tray on top is a really nice added feature.

I wanted a really good toaster and would have been willing to pay even more. I have a daycare home and grandchildren so my small appliances get a LOT of use. Good products that do the job well and last are very much appreciated in this house! I fully recommend this Rowenta toaster. ... Read more
