Amazon.com Review

Brushed stainless steel gives the slightly curved exterior of this ice bucket a sleek, modern look. Double-walled for increased insulation value, the four-quart bucket features a black, wipe-clean plastic lining with molded channels at the bottom to raise cubes above melted ice water. The set includes a matte black plastic tong holder that hangs on the bucket lip or--after the party’s over--stores conveniently inside the bucket with tongs.

OXO carefully designed this bucket-and-tong set. Its stainless-steel, soft-grip carry handle is perfectly shaped to swing up and down without hitting the tong holder, and stays upright without falling. The clear plastic lid on the bucket lifts with a generous tab and also stays upright. The tongs themselves are eight inches in length, feature soft-grip handle insets, a blunt nose, two rows of fairly sharp teeth, and a pull-tab that locks jaws together for storage. The tong holder prevents drips in-between cocktails. Measuring 9 by 8-1/2 inches, the stainless-steel bucket complements other OXO bar accessories. OXO backs all its products with a satisfaction warranty, and will replace or refund any returned item. --Ann Bieri

Brushed stainless steel inside and out gives this cocktail shaker a sleek, modern look. Double-walled construction means less condensation, keeping hands from slipping while shaking up favorite drinks. A soft-grip outer cover on the jigger (which doubles as a lid) allows it to be held securely while adding liquid to any of three measurement markings: 1-1/2, 1, and 3/4 ounces. Crab legs and walnuts don’t stand a chance when this solid zinc cracker puts on the squeeze. 4-0 out of 5 stars good for small nuts
The wide handles make it easy to crack small nuts without hurting your hands. It does not work very well for large nuts since you tend to increase the pressure and when the shell cracks you mash it to a pulp.

For large nuts I suggest the Zyliss model. Having both of these you will be more than a match for any nut. ... Read more

The nonstick-coated worm on this corkscrew almost melts into the cork, gliding easily and without force. The wide, comfortable plastic knob turns to drive the wings up, and once they're fullydeployed, simply push back down as the cork slides up and out of the bottle neck. It works with any corked bottle--try it for vinegar, olive oil, or aromatherapy oils. --Laurie Notaro ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Probably the most cost-effective winged corkscrew on market
Winged corkscrews are generally easier to use than their single-lever-action counterparts, but they have their drawbacks. Chief among these is the comparative gracelessness with which a bottle can be opened with a winged corkscrew. You have to put the bottle down on a table and use both hands to pull the wings apart. If the cork breaks in the bottle, it's difficult to salvage with this type of corkscrew. More than that, winged corkscrews have a tendency to lose a wing over time, making them much harder (though not impossible) to use.

And even though you can open a bottle quicker and more stylishly with a traditional corkscrew, it takes time to learn how. By contrast, this winged baby can be used successfully right out of the box. The mechanism on this model is particularly smooth, especially given the price.

This product is thus recommendable for casual, low-volume wine drinkers. If you're going to be opening bottles with any frequency in front of guests, I would tend to suggest you learn how to use a more traditional, single-lever model.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible
I drink more wine than I sometimes like to admit, and so I open a lot of bottles. I've used waiter's corkscrews, the fancy two prong kind, the lever 'Rabbit' ones, and the standard winged kind, like this OXO version.

I have to say, of every wine opener I have ever used, this is the worst by far. I love every other item I've tried that carries the OXO name, but this one is a miserable failure. My main complaint is that when you line the screw up with the cork, and the wings are down, there's nowhere to grab for stability when turning the knob on the top. You have to kind of poke your fingers between where the wings meet and squeeze. Once you do get it going, half the time it only goes part of the way in and you end up with a half-removed, or worse - broken - cork.

Terrible terrible terrible. But the $2 winged corkscrew at the grocery store instead. Even better, get a good quality waiters corkscrew and never worry about how you're going to open a bottle of wine again.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Good
The grip is great, but the "screw" part of the corkscrew extends too far below the lip. By the time it's all the way into the cork, the wings are only halfway up, meaning that when you push them down, the cork pops only about halfway out.

I have to tug just as much as I do with my Swiss army knife corkscrew.

1-0 out of 5 stars no good
this corkscrew is flawed in several ways: in spite of its "ergonomic" design, it is awkward to use. the screw is too short and often mauls the cork beyond recognition and reuse. simply screwing it into the cork and pulling the wings down does not pull the cork far enough out of the bottle--you have to wiggle, wiggle, wiggle it. save your money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works well after repair
I like this winged corkscrew but I had to repair the plastic once when the cap near the wings busted off. Superglue did the job, and I haven't had trouble since. ... Read more

No more ice cubes slithering across your counter or floor and no more sloshing a just-filled ice cube tray on your way to the fridge--Oxo has come to the rescue with this nifty, easy-release tray with a sliding lid. Just fill the tray with water, slide the lid on, and slip the tray into the freezer. The lid design allows you to stack more trays or other items on top: a great space-saving feature. To dispense the ice cubes, slide the lid in either direction until the desired number of cubes are exposed, then flip the tray over to release the cubes. The clever lid design lets you release a single cube or a dozen, and both tray and lid have a solid feel, with just the right amount of give. Sliding the lid on a just-filled tray, however, takes a little practice (the lid sticks a bit), but placing the tray on a firm surface and sliding evenly and firmly should do the trick. --C. 3-0 out of 5 stars Good for what it is
From the illustration and description I'd hoped that the seal between the tray and its cover would be waterproof.

This isn't the case, but that doesn't detract from the overall quality of the product. I like the crescent shaped ice cubes, it's easy to fill and hold thanks to its shape, and I suspect that the relatively shallow cubes may even form more rapidly than those in other trays.

That said, I'd hoped this tray would solve the problem of water dripping all over the place when placing the tray in the freezer, it doesn't. Also, it's somewhat wide and doesn't fit in my freezer compartment's door trays - which is somewhat annoying.

Thus, 3 stars... good and bad, worth a consideration if you want to buy an ice cube tray.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great item if you like spills and mopping up water
I bought this tray on a Gold Box special as I needed new trays and this one sounded like it would solve a couple of problems with the lid feature. Well, the lid works to keep the ice from evaporating (subliming) and makes stacking easier, but filling the tray and getting it to the freezer makes a mess! The shape does not allow multiple ice pockets to fill, and the V-center makes a perfect ditch for water to run down, out and onto the counter, floor, and into the freezer. Luckily, the item was inexpensive as it went into the trash can following one use.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed
When I first saw these tray I bought them IMMEDIATELY! I was so excited because this is a great way to keep things out of the water while it's freezing. I thought this was a fabulous idea.

But the covers are difficult to get on and off. When you pull them off theyre stuck at first, so you pull harder, then I usually end up with a fast jerk, causing the water to spill everywhere, or cubes to fall out.
The cube shapes themselves are half moons, so the water just falls out of them so easily and all over the floor

EVERYDAY when I refill the trays with water and put the covers on I end up having to wipe water off the floor.

I ended up throwing them away and getting normal deep cubed tray.

This is an EXCELLENT idea, but I think they need to go back to the drawing board with this one.
I hope they do because I'd love to buy an improved version.

5-0 out of 5 stars I just love it
I don't really know what some people are complaining about. Tray is great.
Fact that it's covered - very smart idea: after water is frozen, you may leave it in a freezer in any position, even upside down. No odors. Other food boxes/bags don't touch cubs, which you put directly to your mouse.
Cubes slide out easily. And if you hands are on a right place, you won't overfill the tray, so cover will never stuck.
I bought just one a while ago and now happy to get more.

Oh, and I also use it to make jell-o shuts :).

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice Idea, Poor Execution
I'm an owner of more than ten other OXO products, and I bought their ice cube tray expecting a five star experience. Unfortunately, this tray falls far short.

Bad:

- As other reviewers have mentioned, I have a very hard time with the covers. It's almost impossible to get them on without spilling water out the ends, and equally difficult to remove them after freezing. I don't overfill the cubes (about 3/4 water level seems right) nor am I impatient - it is a matter of poor fit.

- If you're not careful, the shape of the tray makes it easy to spill water off the ends. Other ice cube trays have a lip on both sides. If you overfill or wobble on the way to the freezer, you will spill water with the OXO tray.

Good:

- The tray material is flexible and durable. It is very easy to get cubes out.

Bottom Line:

- This is a usable ice cube tray that will probably last a long time. If OXO corrects the lid fit problem and tendency for the tray to spill out the ends, I'd give it at least 4 stars. As it stands now, 2 stars. ... Read more

This handy little invention is small enough to slip into your pocket or tuck in a picnic basket. First and foremost a sturdy and reliable stainless-steel corkscrew, this versatile tool also boasts a foil cutter and bottle opener--like a Swiss Army Knife for beverages. • Soft, nonslip body with comfortable grip

  • Foil cutter
  • Bottle opener

Reviews (11)

3-0 out of 5 stars Very good grip and screw, poor foil cutter
The foil cutter is awkward to use: While you circle the top of the bottle, you must press the two little wheels against the foil. There is no option but to cut the foil near the top (I like to cut it below the lip), so I use a regular knife to cut the foil rather than use the OXO.

The corkscrew itself is excellent: It has a very sharp point, and screws in easily. The spirals wide enough to grip well into the cork, providing a good grip even in old corks.

The lever which rests against the bottle is positioned and sized just right (the lever does not touch the cork, nor does it slide off the bottle).

The grip has the typical OXO feel of firmness and softness, which I like. The geometry provides good leverage and easily extracts the more recalcitrant corks.

As with any waiter's helper style corkscrew, it takes care and practice to insert the screw down the middle of the cork.

Unfortunately, after a year of service, one of the small parts in the OXO broke, and now the screw and lever flop around loosely, so I can't use it anymore.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than the OXO Corkpull
Have owned a number of corkscrews from the bare bones one on the Swiss Army knife to the winged designs. OXO makes two cork extractors -- this is definitely the one to go with. The other OXO cork extractor (I think it's called the cork "pull") always got little bits of cork in the wine because the corkscrew had to go all the way through the cork for the device to work.

Aside from the rubberized grip, the best feature of this corkscrew is the replacement of the traditional knife blade with two recessed, circular blades for cutting the foil. Just put the corkscrew handle on the far side of the bottle, squeeze the near side with your thumb and rotate to make a nice, neat incision that removes the top of the foil. No more wrestling around with a rusty knife blade.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality value.
This is a sturdy, handy, and small corkscrew that also comes equipped with a bottle opener and a foil cutter. Its size is excellent to keep at home or to take on picnics and trips, and its corkscrew has a sharp point that goes into all kinds of corks without breaking them, even the really old ones. Its bottle opener is very easy to use, and its foil cutter, a couple of wheels with sharp edges recessed into the screw's handle, although requiring some practice, offers a clean, safe alternative to the traditional rusty knife.
Like the rest of the products from the OXO Good Grips line, this one is a great value of superior quality, unsurpassed durability and flawless performance. Its ergonomic design and big, pressure-absorbing, outstanding non-slip grip, allow you comfortable, daily, wet or dry use, and its elegant, stylized shape makes it perfect to move back and forth between the kitchen and the dinner table.
Its easy-to-clean, simple construction and dishwasher-safe, hard-wearing materials make this a tool that you will be able to depend on for years, and its stainless-steel metal parts will permanently keep your rust worries away.
After submitting this product to over two years of normal everyday use, mine it's still just like new.

3-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Quality, Poor Design
I am a bartender and I work with this OXO for 3 month now. You dont want to know how many times i stung myself with this needle - eh - cork screw. Band-aid became my second best friend.
I partly agree to previous comments: I miss a small knife instead of the foil cutter. Although the cutter itself works okay, unless you need to open waxed bottle tops (Knob Creek)

I like the feel and sturdyness, but this is not a professional tool designed by professionals. I will buy something else today.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Low-tech Cork Puller
I've had this for a year and can report it's a very good, no nonsense cork puller. It's not as fancy as the rabbit pullers but then this one is good for everyday use or to throw into the picnic carrier or shaving kit for a trip away.

It does not leave cork parts in the wine. Requires some skill / patience / strength, however. The foil cutter is not the traditional knife blade but two sharp scoring edges. It works about 80% of the time (OXO: I think the edges should be sharper or bigger).

Good value and recommended. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product !!
Screws in straight and easy, extracting the cork without any damage, therefore allowing you to reinsert the cork. It could give arthritics some trouble removing the cork from the screw, but that could be said for a lot of corkscrews. This is by far the easiest corkscrew I've ever used. No problems with foil or wax.

5-0 out of 5 stars opens with ease
I din't drink much wine, but when I do I reach for mu OXO opener. It has a little rollong blade for cutting the paper on the bottle neck. Just place the opener over the cork and turn. Out comes even the tightest cork. To remove the cork from the screw, turn the other way. It's that simple. And the handle is plenty big to get a good grip on with out hurting your hand. I recomend it.

2-0 out of 5 stars This Cork Pull is not very stable.
I purchased this item and within 2-3 uses it simply fell apart. For the price I paid, I don't think I got a very good product.

3-0 out of 5 stars Yes, it extracts the cork easily, but....
Many older people love Oxo tools and utensils because of their ergonomic grips. Although I am still fairly spry, I have many Oxo products because they are just better-designed for the human hand than most. This corkscrew operates on the proven "Screwpull" design by extracting the cork quite effortlessly through a continuous screwing action. However, there is no easy way to get the cork off the screw! You have the grip the cork with your fingers to retract the screw by unscrewing it -- not an easy task for someone with arthritis. Oxo needs to amend the design by adding a clamping ring to grab the cork to ease its removal from the screw. It could easily be a 5-star product if they add this feature.

4-0 out of 5 stars so easy!
It's way easy to open a bottle of wine. However it does ruin the cork. If you are using something else to plug it back up, like a wine saver pressurized thingy, then you are all set. Anyone can open a bottle of wine with this, I don't care how old and weak you are, it is way easy. ... Read more

One of the trimmest, most elegant bar sets around, this 3-by-4-by-8-inch stand keeps all seven components neatly organized and ready for use. All pieces--except the plastic cutting board--are made of brushed stainless steel with OXO’s signature soft-grip insets. Both 8-1/2 inches long, the knife and spoon are especially sleek and useful for other kitchen needs. A curved serrated blade with forked tip makes the knife ideal for cutting lemon and lime wedges; while the long slender spoon with its perfectly round bowl mixes all kinds of drinks and stirs sugar into tall glasses of iced tea. Amazon.com Review

The cushiony-soft inset on both the top and underside of this opener’s ergonomically-shaped handle make it easy to grip. One end flips the tops off bottles while the other features a sharp point for punching holes in cans. Made of stainless steel with a brushed finish for a sleek, contemporary look, this six-inch, dishwasher-safe opener complements other accessories in OXO’s barware collection. OXO backs all its products with a satisfaction warranty, and will replace or refund any returned item. --Ann Bieri ... Read more
