5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product!
This is a perfect way to spruce up plain old corn bread, by making it look like perfect ears of corn! My kids love it and it looks very nice when serving guests. I have one that was passed down to me and I am ordering this pre-seasoned one also because one pan is never enough! I wish they offered a pan that cooked more at one time. This is a great investment and works better than products that cost three times as much. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

These 4-bite cornsticks are perfect for adults who prefer the crispy exterior to the fluffy interior of cornbread. And this little cast-iron pan is meant to be around forever--the manufacturer has been making them since 1896! Cast iron is the original nonstick cooking surface--with proper care and seasoning, it turns glossy black, with a hard "crust" that makes sticking a near-impossibility. If you notice sticking, just follow the included directions for re-seasoning. This pan is about as corny as baking pans get--but in a very tasty way. --Jill Lightner ... Read more

  • Makes light and crispy cornbread and muffins
  • Each cornstick measures 5 inches by 1-1/2 inches

4-0 out of 5 stars Seasoned, this makes pretty cornsticks for your meals
Frankly, when I am lazy, I whip up a batch of cornbread (yeah, yellow cornmeal, so sue me you Southerners, and I even use those cheap mixes when really pressed for time.) And I pour it into any handy square or round cake pan and cut it up for meals.

But...let's say you are serving guests and want some cornsticks to go with that chili. If you season this pan according to directions, and even throw out the first batch of sticks, (give them to the dog, he won't mind) you will eventually get a pan that lets you make lovely, brown, tasty cornsticks that look very nice served with a simple meal. Don't skimp on the oil or melted butter in the batter, and watch the sugar--it causes them to brown too fast if you overdo it.

Set these out in a nice basket and you won't feel so bad about serving chili from a can or the soup you threw together in a panic to get that hot meal on the table. Whew!

5-0 out of 5 stars they are shaped like corn, get it?
it actually is sort of a magic formula to make sure they never stick, but you can figure it out after a couple tries and proper seasoning. when you do figure it out, you will be presented with some tasty and cool looking cornbread. also your pan is certain to survive a direct hit by a weapon of mass destruction. a cheap and terrific product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad start!
I'm no newcomer to castiron cookware & should've used common sense when it came time to season the cornstick pan. Instead, I followed directions & slapped on the Crisco. Big mistake! It didn't seem to 'soak in,' so I rubbed more, heated more. Bottom line is that the Crisco simply caked on, turned dark & I'll skip the gory details of getting it off. With this introduction, I can hardly wait to try cooking in it! Other castiron instructions say to use oil, heat & leave overnight in the oven. Future buyers should go directly to Plan B.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lodge Cast Iron Cornstick Pan
I don't like my pan. I oiled it like the instructions say to do and it left a bad flavor behind. Now we can taste it everytime we use it. I have had problems with the cornbread sticking even though I grease the pan.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great cornbread pan
I have always liked Lodge cast iron pans and this one is no exeption. This is a heavy well made pan that with proper care will last for generations.
The key to using a cast iron pan is to properly season it and keep it seasoned. For this pan, I rubbed it with melted Crisco and baked it for an hour at 400, then let it cool slowly in the oven. This should create a beautiful glossy black finish; if not, do it a second time and again whenever the seasoning has worn off. Always hand dry a pan like this, never let it air dry or it will rust.
I have never had a problem with cornbread sticking. I preheat the pan and then pour the batter into it. I use a small ladle for this and leave the pan right on the oven rack. When the cornbread is done you just flip it right out onto a plate. The only drawback I have had is that I usually have to make a few pansful of cornbreads sticks for them to last through dinner. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I was shocked that you carry this in the states!
I grew up with my Grandpa's Danish baking, and one of the most yummie of all was his Danish Ebleskivers (spelling??)... But to make thoes, one must have the right pan... And my Grandpa's pan has been used countless hundreds, if not thousands of times over his and his mother's (who was born in Denmark) lifetimes.

These pans are used to make, among other things, apple filled round muffins, served with a sweet soup and best scalleding hot, dripping with butter.

Be sure to season this pan, as you would any cast iron pan. If you would like the Ebleskiver recipy, drop me a line! You will NOT be sorry! A little taste of Denmark is always a great thing! ... Read more

Drop biscuit dough into each of the seven integrated individual mini pans and it will be ready to be cooked anywhere--from a gleaming commercial kitchen to a riverside campsite. Fancy alloys and coatings on other types of cookware are simply trying to emulate the innate qualities of properly seasoned cast iron: heat retention, even heat distribution, and a scratchproof nonstick surface that will never warp. Since 1896, Lodge has been steadily producing the world's most extensive selection of professional cast-iron cookware, lovingly poured one piece at a time. Cared for properly, which means never even thinking of putting them in the dishwasher, these products will last for generations. --Dominic Johnson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW Perfect Biscuits
Wow - I just finished eating the best biscuit I've ever tasted, and I think it's the start of a new Sunday tradition in my home! I didn't have time to "season" the pan, but used non-stick spray. The biscuits still came out of the pan easily. I substituted 100% whole wheat flour for all the white flour in the recipe that came with the pan -didn't use the baking soda or cream of tartar either- but they were perfect nevertheless. Nice with soup, or try with a teaspoon of raspberry preserves for an after-dinner dessert, or a special breakfast treat with an egg and fruit. The pan is really cool (or should I say hot?) and has enough character to sit in the middle of the table -on a kitchen cloth - it's H-O-T right out of the oven. I've used my cast iron skillets for 25 years, and can't believe I'd never seen the biscuit pan before now. I just happened to be looking at Lodge skillets on Amazon and found it, and am so glad I did.

Amazon.com Review

Specialty breads like banana, cranberry, and date-nut bake beautifully in this cast-iron pan, which ensures they'll come out with a thin, crisp, wonderfully brown crust. Great for loaf cakes and meat loaf, also, the pan measures 8-1/4 by 4-1/2 by 2-5/8 inches (inside dimensions). It's heavy, must be seasoned with melted shortening and baked, and needs to be coated with oil or cooking spray after each use to prevent rust. Though its weight and care put off some cooks, cast iron--as has been known since the Middle Ages--permits precise cooking and flavor retention, is naturally nonstick when seasoned, and lasts for generations, increasing the value of its moderate price. As it blackens with use, cast iron imparts to food a mystical aura of rustic nourishment and flavor. --Fred Brack ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Mini indeed...
This is not a baking tool, it is a toy. I own several pieces of cast iron and love them all. Very small, mini is the proper description indeed for this pan. I guess it could be useful to get your kid(s) interested in baking, whenever one makes muffins, cornbread, etc. let them have a little batter and take a break from the Playstation. Note: it comes unseasoned, you'll have to season it before first use otherwise your food will stick and pan will rust upon washing. I received it with no seasoning instructions, however, it is easy to find seasoning instructions(hint: Google.com). Since I have no use for it, I threw it away. Hope this helps in your decision. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Addition to Any Kitchen
This is another fine Lodge product that works as advertised IF you season it and then use lots of grease when you cook with it. As other reviews note, the tails are easily broken unless you take precautions and heat the pan before using. Then there are no problems and it cleans easily with a papertowel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool fish breads!
I also had to have this pan after I saw it. I also wondered if those bits where the fins and tail were would come out. I need not have worried. First be sure to season the pan. Second, before putting in the batter, grease (I used butter) the fish, then put it in the oven to heat up. When both the oven and the pan are hot, get it out and pour in the batter. I had to spoon in a little extra into the fins and tail section. After cooking I pulled out the pan turned it over and out fell the fish. No prying no sticking. I think the key is that the pan was hot enough to cook the batter as I poured it in. Plus the bit of extra grease each time I use it seems to help.

BTW One pan makes a 1/2 batch of the corn bread recipe that Lodge ships with it.

3-0 out of 5 stars An adorable pan, but not so adorable muffins/breads...
I love my LODGE cast-iron pans for making muffins with, especially corn-bread muffins. When I saw this cute pan, I just *had* to have it for my collection! After seasoning the pan, I made a batch of cheery corn muffins to go with a hearty stew. Much to my chagrin, the muffins were tough to get out of the pan - the 'tails' broke off and bits got wedged in the detail of the pan.

The wonderful detail of the pan also didn't show up nearly as much as I would have liked on the muffins - it may be my recipes, but so far, on multiple bakings, I have had no luck getting the detail on this pan to show up.

However, don't get me wrong. The quality of this pan is top-notch - like all cast-iron cookware, it is remarkably durable. (And extremely heavy - don't store it in an above-head cabinet - ouch!) I would still recommend this pan, if only for the novelty of serving cute little bread fishes. ... Read more
