Amazon.com Review

Brita's popular water filters keep great-tasting water at the ready for a fraction of the cost of bottled water. This set of filters makes sure that a replacement is on hand at all time, so that you can continue to drink and cook with water free from metals, sediment, and chlorine flavors. The filters also soften hard water and make tap water taste naturally good.--Lynne Sampson ... Read more

  • Reduces chlorine, bad tastes, and odors
  • Prevents bacteria growth in filter
  • Reduces sediment and water hardness

5-0 out of 5 stars 17 Cents Per Gallon
I have been using Brita filters for over six years now and I have nothing but the best to say about them. Living in a part of the country where the tap water contains impurities resulting in poor taste, at first I resorted to bottled water. Besides being hard on the old wallet, I found that some brands had a burnt aftertaste to them. So I tried Brita. I was amazed at how it improved the taste of ordinary tap water. It tasted better than some bottled water I had been purchasing and it was crystal clear. I have been using Brita ever since. The only drawback initially is the cost of the pitcher, but once you have it the only other cost are the filters that are readily available at most stores. Each filter lasts about 40 gallons, which translates into getting bottled water quality for seventeen cents per gallon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Improved filters easier to tell when to change out!
The Brita filters are an excellent lower-end water purification system. They work quite well in most cases and these new filters come with a guide that indicates when it is time to change the filter. This is a marked improvement over the old method of going by calendar days based on the number of times you fill the pitcher per day.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well designed filter is a snap to drop in your pitcher
The Brita makes good water (period). I have tried a number of filters from whole house to faucet--singly and in combination. If your experience is like mine, convenience is a limiting factor and here's how convenient these replacements are:

1. Rip, cut or tear open the plastic envelope.
2. Drop the filter in a dish of cold water and let soak for fifteen minutes.
3. Remove filter from dish and rinse it off under cold water.
4. Drop the filter into the hole in the top part of your pitcher (it's notched on one side so it fits only one way).

Are you going to enjoy filtered water?? You bet! Tastes good?? Yep! Can ANYONE do this?? Definitely! Does it add any sodium to your diet?? Nope! Low-carb diet friendly, too.

Buy these in multi-packs; that's when they are the most economical.

One caveat...yes, there are always little carbon particles floating in the top part of the pitcher where you do the fillin', and I have seen a small amount of these in the bottom where the filtered water is. My solution is "If you see 'em, dump 'em out."

5-0 out of 5 stars Great filter
What can you really say about a filter? It filters the water great and the water tastes clean. The only thing that freaks me out a little is the little black specks (charcoal I think) that floats around (in the top portion of the pitcher, not the water you pour out after it has been filtered).

2-0 out of 5 stars A one-horse race
I was hoping that Amazon.com would also offer the Pur water filters for pitchers, as well as other Pur products, in addition to Brita. Most stores carry both products, thereby offering a choice, and while I have nothing against Brita, I do prefer Pur. Having only one brand to chose from is tantamount to having a one-horse race! ... Brita's Ultra water system not only improves the flavor of tap water for drinking and cooking, it also purifies it. Brita packages two replacement water filters together to ensure that your water filter continues to function properly and that great-tasting water keeps flowing. Contaminants such as asbestos, cryptosporidium, and giardia are removed--as long as the filter is changed regularly. 5-0 out of 5 stars Brita Faucet filter is the best we've found
We've tried all the faucet filters available and were not satisfied with any of them. Last year we bought a Brita and have never looked back. The water has absolutely NO taste after being filtered. Which is good. Before filtering it has a strong chlorine taste. My only complaint, and this is NOT Brita's fault, is that because our water has lots of particulate matter (which we were swallowing before we got the filter!) the filters last only 2-3 weeks, not months. But otherwise, it performs much better than the other major brands. Highly recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Deal!
I always get these filters from amazon.com, they are cheaper, and they ship it for free (when i buy 2 of them)...

5-0 out of 5 stars what is there to say?
they work, they're afforable, and they make the L.A. tap water actually taste good. the only problem is that I go through them so fast because of how awful the tap water is out here... but who cares, it's worth it. much cheaper than buying bottled water.

5-0 out of 5 stars Availability is the best
The product is good. It is the best filter system I have used. But the weak point for Brita is availability, since I hardly find them at the Supermarket so I buy it from Amazon. So availability at Amazon is the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars A water filter that is doing its job!
I have been using Brita water filter for two years. The bottom line is that it works! The water tastes fresh without the odor. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good filter, produces nice, clean drinking water
Bought this filter at my local BJs warehouse store three weeks ago and installed it that same day. My wife and I have been big consumers of Poland Spring bottled water and decided to try this product to cut down on costs and to cut down on usage of plastic, throw-away bottles.

I wasn't too sure I would like the water produced by this filter, but after three weeks of repeated use, I can vouch for the taste and the smell: both good. There is no characteristic "tap water" smell and you can't tell the difference from Poland Spring. Plus, it's very easy to install (comes with a variety of washers in case it does not fit straight off on your faucet).

It comes with two filters (good for about four or five months of use by an average family). You can get replacement filters easily at different stores (like BJs, Walmart, etc.).

Even if you currently drink water straight from the faucet, this product would be worthwhile for you to buy, for who wants to drink the lead and the chlorine that are present in most drinking water that is piped into homes in America? And if, like us, you are or were bottled water consumers, you will see no difference in taste AND see the savings mount up!

3-0 out of 5 stars Great product,BUT no filters avalable
Ok the faucet mout filter is great i loveit i had the old on tap and did not like it cause it stuck out this one hide underneath and behind which is great until you havereplace the filter and the only place i have found that has them is amazon and you have to pay shipping which really sucks

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Nice Water Filter
We have had ours for awhile now and it seems to work pretty good. The biggest selling points were the size of it (it is out of the way when installed) and the design. The lever is strong and smooth and is easy to operate.

The Pur water filters seems to have a hard knob to turn and have a bad design which is in the way and tends to loosen. Also, the indicators on them never seem to 'line up' all be the same. They start off black then go to white then go to red as the filter is used and approaches its 100 gallon limit lifespan.I have tried several Pur water filters and I don't think any of the red indicators were ever in the same place.

This Brita is still on nice and tight. No leaks. No complaints. The stream and spray settings are nice to have in addition to the filtered drinking water. The filter itself is quite a bit easier to change than the Pur.

1-0 out of 5 stars Balancing Act
We can not have Brita give 5 stars to their product. That would be like a One-Party Political System. Not everyone on here liked Brita's other facet system. We need more people to give their opinions or it will become a radical democracy. ... Read more

Eliminate 99% of the lead and reduce chlorine, mercury, and sediment in drinking water with Brita's Magnum II Filtration Pitcher. Larger than the standard Brita pitcher, it holds up to 3 quarts of clean, filtered water. Just pop the filter cylinder in the white plastic water reservoir, fill with cold tap water, and in just minutes the pitcher's brimming with healthy, great tasting water. Each filter--one comes with the pitcher and you can order others--lasts for 40 gallons of water. As an added feature, a filter replacement indicator relays when it's time for a new one. The sleek, clear plastic pitcher sports an easy-grip handle, while the white plastic lid features two openings: one for filling the pitcher and one for pouring. --Marianne Painter ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best water I've ever had
Brita water is so good I won't drink tap water anymore anywhere! I've bought one for myself (I also have the small water bottle by brita) one for my mom in Toronto (for when i visit) and one for my mom in law in New York for when I visit there! It is really great and the fact that I can see the difference in the water and in the color of my teas and coffee is the real clincher. I would reccomend this or any Brita pitcher to everyone.

I personally have this model and it is so easy to fill with the flip top. Also the rubber grip makes holding the pitcher comfortable and effortless. It gets a little heavy when it is full but maybe I'm just weak. Since we've bought it I drink so much more water (which is a good thing) and I love the taste.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brita makes some great water
If you want cleaner water to drink, or just water that tastes better, Brita could be for you. It's easy to make the water and to take care of the Brita pitcher. All you have to do is keep the filters clean and keep refilling the pitcher with water. The Brita will filter the water by itself, just fill it up.

If you would like healthier and better tasting water, I recommend getting Brita. Both the 3-quart and 2-quart Britas are great, just decide which size you think you would need for your refrigerator.

3-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, fresh-tasting water but a few "gotchas"
First off, I have to say Brita's filters make tap water taste really great. We had this with us in Germany, where the water is really disgusting right from the tap. That water was completely undrinkable but the Brita pitcher made liters and liters of fresh-tasting water that rivaled the expensive bottled French stuff. We felt it was well worth the real estate it took up in our typically shoebox sized Euro-fridge. And the pitcher is easy on the eyes, with nice, sleek styling.

There are a few "gotcha's" with this pitcher. For one thing, the small cover on the spout is fragile. If you drop the lid (easy to do if wet) it will break. This is minor as the pitcher will work fine without it. The end-of-filter life is a timer, not a sensor of filter quality. If you go through gallons of water, the filter will expire before the indicator tells you. You can tell this by the bad taste. You have to watch that the filter does not dry out, so you should not leave the pitcher dry when you empty it out. This takes some discipline from the kids (and dare I say, adults) to fill it up immediately.

The Brita does filter relatively quickly. However, if you need more than 3/4 of a gallon at a time of water, or you go through a lot of water (we do), you may want a sink filter or an in-line filter instead. But for cold, delicious water at a reasonable cost, you can't beat this pitcher. We ended up buying a sink filter instead and retired our pitcher, but it really did well by us for quite a while.

2-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly disappointing design
After 8 years with my Brita Classic pitcher, I decided to get a newer, larger model with the built-in "smart timer" feature. After using it for about 3 weeks now, I am very disappointed in the overall design, especially considering how perfect the original Brita was. The smart timer feature is handy -- it's a small digital indicator on the top of the cap that tells you when it's time for a refill; this should work better (& cleaner) than the previous "analog" mechanism used with some Brita filters. But, that's about it as far as the good goes.

If you fill up the basin nearly all the way, water sometimes leaks out the back of the unit from the top of the handle (and gets onto your refrigerator shelf). Much more annoying, though, is the little flap that rests over the spout. Presumably, this is there to keep refrigerator odors from entering the unit and affecting the taste of the water. However, most of the time when you pour, the flap doesn't properly open up (it sort of sticks shut); this causes the water to pour sloppily or even to suddenly gush out if the flap happens to come un-stuck in mid-pour (more spills). Finally, if you tilt the unit enough to pour out the last drop of water, occasionally the Brita filter itself dislodges from its slot and thumps into the cover of the unit so that you need to re-seat it.

Given the great success I had with the previous unit, I was very disappointed with the overall design of this more recent version.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Product
There is no doubt that Brita makes an excellent product. Water filtration system itself is excellent. However, the pitcher is cumbersome and does not pour without dripping. All in all the quality of Brita filtration outweighs the messy pours. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Works great, much faster than reverse osmosis system
I've been using the Brita faucet mount for 2 years now. Our water is VERY hard, with sulfur smells and rust, and the Brita works as well as our reverse osmosis unit, which has three in-line filters. Plus, it doesn't slow down like the reverse osmosis unit does when using lots of water (family gatherings, etc). It is NOT as fast as normal tap water, so don't go thinking you'll get tap-water speed out of such an intense filter. I have to replace the filter approximately every 2-3 months, depending on usage. Very handy when the r/o unit starts running out of water. I tend to use both the r/o and the Brita when filling a pot for boiling, etc just to make it go faster. I've used both the PUR and Brita, Brita works better on our water, although, for best taste, I also run it through a pitcher filter (as I said, our water is BAD). Tastes better than spring water! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great tasting Water
This is a very convenient item, especially if you have well water and are bothered by funny tastes and/or smells in your water. This is excellent for filtering water to drink or to cook with, and for coffee and/or tea. Another reviewer did not recommend, but it seems they used hot water (never, ever do this - cold only!), and be sure you have fitted the filter properly. For people who live with unpleasant water, this is a godsend.

5-0 out of 5 stars water going thru too fast
I love Brita water filtering items. If the water goes thru too fast when you fill it then the filter is not placed properly. If filter is placed properly the water goes thru fairly quickly but not "right through." Maybe that was the other user's problem.

1-0 out of 5 stars Keep away from it
I had one a few months ago. When I filled in water, the water just passed the filter quickly. I was not sure if the water is filtered. One day, I wanted to clean it. I put it in hot water for about 10 minutes. The pitcher was out of shape and I had to discard it. I believe the pitcher was made from cheap materials. I sent an email to the custom no service of Brita. I got no response. I will not buy Brita products any longer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brita 2-Quart Space Saver Pitcher

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent filtration system
Easy to use, excellent filtration system. I had some trouble originally installing it because I didn't know that plumbing threads are the reverse of screws. Once I got it on correctly, it has worked fine for over one year. The filters pop on and off easily, last a long time, and a red light tells you when it's time to change. Sometimes, the water pressure gets too low and I change to a new filter even though it is still showing a green light. The replacement filters are a little difficult to find.

Brita changed the way we think about water pitchers, and now the company is aiming to do the same with water faucets. Merely turn on the tap and enjoy fully filtered, fresh-tasting water. Each Brita filter reduces such impurities as cryptosporidium, giardia, lead, asbestos, and benzene, while also eliminating bad tastes and foul odors. In fact, the Brita faucet filter is the most effective Brita filter, more efficient than the company's popular pitcher filter. 3-0 out of 5 stars An OK poduct, but doesn't really work
I have had this filter for about 6 months, and I love having clean drinking water, after 6 months the indicator light no longer works. When I called Brita, I was sent to an automated answering system that said to put the filter on again. I have replaced the filter several times, and still no indicator light.

4-0 out of 5 stars Happy with Brita
Works great so far. The filtered water does not come out as quickly as the regular water, probably because it's going through the filter cartridge, but it's okay. I use the faucet filter for water for cooking, and for drinking if I just need a glass, also for filling ice cube trays. I still use my Brita pitcher when I need a lot of water. The faucet filter is very convenient and I'm happy with its performance so far. The filtered water tastes better and, I think, is much safer than regular tap water.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Problems and Works Great
I've had my Brita Ultra Faucet Filter System for over a year now without any problems. I'm very happy with this product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Frustrating!!!
My unit was only 6 months old when it started to leak like crazy. No matter what I did I was not able to control the leak. I am not buying a new filter system from Brita. Don't spend your money on this system.

1-0 out of 5 stars On my 3rd complete replacement set after 18 months
I don't know what it is about this product, but it just does not hold up at all. Actually, I do know what it is: cheaply made.

When it works, it works great. There is nothing like having fresh water at the tap without having to refill a pitcher every day. But it won't take long for you to realize that this device isn't made for the long term.

Within months of owning small leaks start to occur around the device. Shortly after those appear, the leaks worsen and will actually run into the water you are wanting to filter.

After spending over $100 on 3 replacements and how ever many replacement filters, I have learned my lesson the hard way on this product.

You really do get what you pay for in this product. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

This pitcher combines Brita's reliable filtering with a very convenient narrow shape and flip-top lid for easy refills. To operate, simply flip the lid and fill the water reservoir, then wait a couple of minutes for it to filter through. The filter used with this system has been certified by NSF International, a testing authority for water filtration products, and reduces copper and eliminates 99% of lead in tap water. Using activated carbon as well as an ion exchange resin, it also reduces chlorine, bad tastes, odors, and sediment--making it a lot easier to drinkthe recommended eight glasses of water a day. It comes with one filter, lasting approximately two months, and the pitcher is clear with a white top. --Maria Dolan ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good alternative
This is a good alternative but has its drawbacks. I think a britta sink/faucet model would be more convenient but my faucet is not set up for one. The water from this pitcher tastes very good and I use it for my coffee which allows me to not buy filters for the pot...however.... a full pitcher is just under a full pot of coffee and the refilling of the britta is very slow. (The re-fill rate seems to decrease as the filter gets older) Something to consider if you will be bringing the pitcher to the dinner table for a family... You really cant pour it till its done filtering. The filters are fairly expensive but less than buying bottled water. I also find the pitcher to be a bit heavy and the lid delicate. altho it has not broken i can see that that might be a problem... This is a good alternative to a faucet model or bottled water but it isnt without its drawbacks.

4-0 out of 5 stars i'm satisfied
water doesn't taste quite as good as ozarka spring (from the smaller, hard-plastic bottles). but when cold, taste is still good enough for me. much, much, MUCH easier than lugging home those gallon jugs. also a lot cheaper. plus, after reading some of the reports about bottled waters, i'm beginning to doubt if it is any better than tap with regards to bacteria and other chemicals. in fact, consumerreports.com reports that some of the plastic containers, especially the type used in 1 gallon jugs, can contaminate the water.

4-0 out of 5 stars A fine pitcher, with some reservations
The top of this pitcher is a bit fragile; if you drop it on a tile floor, it can break, or at least the small spout cover can break, so beware.

The water does filter "slowly" but acceptable. I say "slowly" because the job of filtering water by gravity naturally takes some time. The water has to percolate down through the filter surface area; this just is a slow process without any help from positive or negative (vacuum) pressure.

The pitcher holds 2 quarts. Frankly, if your water is bad-tasting, you will be filling this pitcher up many times a day. If that is the case, get an inline filter instead. This pitcher is ok for a small family, but for a large, water-drinking, Kool-aid making, tea drinking family you may need a lot more. We have one, and we use it a lot, so I have to say it's pretty good, overall.

5-0 out of 5 stars Does what it claims to
I have been very satisfied with this product. It fits snugly inside my refrigerator door so I save a lot of space. And the water tastes great!

The one annoyance, as is the case with all Brita products, is that it takes quite a while for the tap water that I add to filter through and into the pitcher.

4-0 out of 5 stars It tastes like it works, i hope
This filtration pitcher is the only one I have ever had, tried, or used. If you buy this you need to get the filters with the color indicator that tells you when to change it. I made the mistake of buying filters without it and after the filter has died, you can usually tell by the taste (which is really bad). this is a good price. it is very easy to fill. it takes a little while to filter the water, maybe a little longer than I would like. At my house, 8 cups of water is gone in no time though. If you have a family, it is probably smarter to buy a little bigger one. but the good thing is that it doesn't take up much room in the fridge and it is easy to pour. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Can be difficult to fill, some leaking
I own a previous model that was just like this except without the electronic reminder. I keep mine in the fridge. It can be a pain to fill, and the water is susceptible to fridge odors since the cap is vented. I've noticed minor leaking from the spout's connection to the housing, and I'm keeping my eye on it. Had it for a year and a half. A couple of times when I've cleaned it (as I do every two months at filter replacement) I have noticed possible mildew/mold/suspicious-looking pink stuff. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Good water filter but has flaws
I bought this model by looking at the reviews above when I got it home and started to use it I was disappointed with the cover when you pour the water out it does not pour smooth in fact the cover will either pop off or the water will splash out when being poured ending up on the floor. The digital change filter indicator is a joke it does not tell you if you have actually need to change the filiter it is like a calender and in 2 weeks a bar will be removed. The pitcher it self is very ackward to handle. The water is good but there is a after taste. The replacement filters are a little on the expensive side Not worth the money

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm in love with Brita
Our tap water smells something like a swimming pool. I used to drink it when I desperate. I know Brita doesn't really filter out the actual cholrine, but it is unbelievable how much the smell and taste of the water has changed.

3-0 out of 5 stars digital change filter indicator is misleading
I bought the pitcher with the digital change filter indicator thinking that it would tell you when you've filtered 40 gallons of water. However, it just indicates that the filter needs changing after it counts 8 weeks, regardless of how much water you have filtered.

No thanks, I'll take the manual sticker method and save some money, this is a useless feature.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad!
It's sort of cheap, but it works quite well. The water comes out clean, with no odd taste (which some filter systems can do).

5-0 out of 5 stars This is good stuff!
My husband and I received the Brita as a wedding gift. We absolutely love it. We live in Southern California and the tap water really is awful, we were living off of Arrowhead but now we actually prefer our Brita. The water gets so cold, and filters through so quick and very very easy to use. The amount of money we save off bottled water is incredible. The filters are reasonable and we buy them in bulk at Costco. Its about a years supply for $25.00. You certainly couldn't say that about Bottled Water. I hope you enjoy! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Good filter until it breaks in 2 months!
I have owened 3 of these so far and every one has started leaking
at the junction to the faucet! The leak is caused by a crack in the
plastic part that holds the filter to the screw ring that threads onto the faucet. Since this has not been fixed in over a year I can only assume that brita doesn't care if their expensive filter breaks after only two months of use! Don't buy one it wont last! Perhaps if enough people complain they might fix it, but I have read several complaints just like mine going back a year. Like I said don't buy one it will just break on you.

5-0 out of 5 stars I've been using mine for years without a single problem!
I use my Brita faucet filter every day to filter all my drinking & cooking water. It's infinitely more convenient than the pitcher filter & much cheaper (& lighter) than carrying home bottled water from the grocer.

I'm baffled as to how the other reviewers could find this water filter complicated to use. It just screws on the faucet. When it comes time to change filters, the old one pops out & a new one pops in. It takes less than 10 seconds. The indicator light resets automatically. I've never had a problem with leaking or dripping. It truly couldn't be any simpler to use. I *love* it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Review - Just Got It
I just bought this yesterday and so far no complaints. I actually paid more because I got mine at Bed,Bath & Beyond and it included a pitcher which definitely was not worth the extra ten dollars but with their discounts and a store credit it was worth it. Plus if I hate it in 2 weeks I'll bring it right back to the store - they take back anything. So installation was a breeze. Water flow is ok considering it is going through the filter. No leaks. Non filtered spray is good too. The only complaint is that I cant use one of those flexible spray attachments so the position of the spray is fixed. I am curious if I will agree with the other reviews after a few weeks that say "no" to this product. I promise to come back (end of June) and write an update

Update: June 22 (Purchased 6/6) So far I have not experienced any problems and I'm pretty happy with it. My only concern is if this filter will last at least 3 months making it more cost effective than bottled water.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not really worth the trouble
This seemed like a good idea since I always liked the Brita pitchers but found them to take too much space in the kitchen. However this is not worth the hassle and money. It takes a lot of tinkering with the washer/screw mount and placing the filter exactly in the holder to make a seal tight enough so water doesn't spurt out. And I can't get the indicator light to reset to green when I replaced the cartridge. (I tried everything the manual suggested - yes ... keep the instruction manual). Overall - very cheaply made. On the plus side, it does make the water taste a lot better and it doesn't take up space in the fridge or counters.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Money
I purchased this unit and within two weeks the connection to the faucet started to leak.
Try one of the under the sink filters instead, they are more cost effective and convenient. ... Read more
