Good things do come in small packages!
Don't let the size and the weight fool you. The Harmony is powerful for its size. This unit is unbelievably quiet when compared to an upright or other canisters. We have hardwoods throughout and 2 dogs that shed (tumbleweeds)all year round. This vacuum has no problem handling the job. This is a must vacuum for pet owners! The unit does an awesome job of eliminating dust and absolutely no odors from the unit (unlike the bag units). I have never had a vacuum which has made doing carpeted stair cases so easy. I finish in half the time. The tools are easy to switch around. I do agree with the previous review, if you have wall to wall I would suggest the larger unit.

All in all, I am very pleased and have recommended it to several friends and family who will be purchasing the unit soon.

quiet and powerful
Light and quiet, the Harmony really cleans hardwood floors and area rugs well. We don't have wall-to-wall, but from what I can tell, if you have lots of carpets I would recommend moving up to the Oxygen model. It does not come with a powered carpet attachment. Which Electrolux?
Star rating is just a placeholder, but you might find the following helpful.

I was doing research on Electrolux vacuum as my Mom has used those before and doesn't want anything less. I was surprised and confused when I discovered that there are actually two Electrolux brand out there.

One is Aerus Electrolux, Texas based (www.aerusonline.com), and the other is the US subsidiary of Electrolux, headquartered in Sweden (www.electrolux.com).

I originally thought the Swedish maker (Volvo springs to mind) is the one that my Mom is familiar with, but turns out that Aerus Electrolux vacuum are actually the ones.

Aerus Electrolux's top of the line Guardian 9000 carries a list price of over sixteen hundred, and retails realistically for about a thousand and is sold mostly through dealers. The Swedish Electrolux's top of the line Oxygen Ultra retails for five hundred and you can find it on Amazon. The Swedish maker also owns the Eureka brand (a respectable vacuum too).

I ended up buying a Guardian 9000 from Aerus Electrolux for my Mom and she's been very happy with it for the past year. It is built like a tank, bullet-proof Lexan plastic, good suction, HEPA filter. And we know neighbors with earlier versions that lasted decades and still going.

I noticed that some of the other reviewers who owned Electrolux before are disappointed with the Oxygen. Well, I guess they might have owned an Aerus Electrolux before, and did not know that Oxygen Ultra is actually made by a different company.

Now, how can two companies own the same brand? Aerus Electrolux was founded in 1924 in US, the Swedish maker in 1919 (according to their respective web sites). I don't know when the Swedish maker started marketing in earnest in US, but Aerus might have lost a court battle somewhere, which would explain why the Guardian vacuum machines carry the LUX (R) trademark these days instead of Electrolux.

Would I buy any vacuum machine for over a thousand? Probably not. But if you or someone in your family is in search of a perfect vacuum, the above might help.

Satisfied Wife
My wife had purchased a Fantom Lightning Vac some 3 or 4 years ago and had nothing but trouble with it almost from the beginning but for sure after the warranty had expired. After searching the market and being disappointed with the quality of today's vacuums, She remarked that her old Electrolux lasted for more than 20 years and that she should just get another one. Well, we found it on Amazon.Com and read the reviews to which we agreed that some people just aren't mechanically inclined and disregarded the negatives. We purchased the model 6988A and once again, my wife is very pleased with her vacuuming machine. The quality is built in and the performance really satisfies her. Thanks, Electrolux, for building products that our loving spouses like. Well worth the monies.

Mighty Mite
This stylish vacuum is light and compact but as powerful as the big lug-arounds. It leaves the carpet free of dirt and debris and fluffs up the pile like new; however, it's main advantages are it's quietness and dust free operation. Other HEPA vacuums that I have owned always had dust on them after I used them. This vacuum has virtually no dust on it after you use it and that's using the regular vacuum bag (there is a vacuum bag available that filters even more dust, etc.). The dust bag is extremely easy to change and has a "self-sealing" feature that prevents dust from escaping while it is being removed from the canister. I found no problems in assembling and disassembling the hoses, wands and accessories; so I don't know what the other users who reported a problem in this area were doing wrong. The only drawback is the "on-board" cleaning tool storage which fits awkardly on the outside of the canister but the compact size of the vacuum is more than an even trade-off for this shortcoming.

Really Nice Vacuum
I bought this vaccum after developing allergies for the first time. My parents have had an elextrolux for the past 25 years and it has always worked great. Although Eureka is now making these electrolux vaccums I expect that in order to preserve the integrity of the name they will make every effort to make sure this product line is up to standard, and I think they have succeded in this regard.
Contrary to the other reviews I took my vaccum home and was able to connect all of the pieces by myself without any problems. The bags are small, but so is the vaccum. If you want bigger bags chose an upright, but beware, the hepa filtration on those units is not as good. The filter and bags are easy to acess. The power head is very sturdy but has a little trouble standing on its own- it can do it, but will fall down with the slightest breeze.
The vaccum is very quiet. To test the suction I first vaccumed with my old vaccum and then revaccumed with this one. I was very impressed. I could hear every piece of sand and crumb climbing up the hose- and there was a lot!!! It even has a light so you can vaccum in the dark, or in a dark corner. The head seems to move itself effortlessly across the room.
If you are considering this machine, don't be afraid of the other reviews. I did not experience their woes.

DON'T BUY THIS VACUUM OR THIS BRAND
This vacuum is not worth the money. My vacuum worked for two weeks before the belt broke and they do not carry belts at this time. According to a customer service representative they did not expect belts to malfunction so they are on backorder for the time being. When I called customer service I was told a number of stories, but in the end no one offered to help and I was told I would just have to wait for the parts to come in (about 3 months).
