Amazon.com Review

Using hot tap water and cleaning solution, the 12-amp Hoover SteamVac V2 deep cleans carpet fibers, tough stains, and upholstery. It is also suitable for tile, ceramic, marble, and linoleum floors (though not appropriate for hardwoods). Named for itsdual-nozzle construction, the cleaner provides efficient water removal and thorough edge-to-edge cleaning. The nozzle design forces hot air into the cleaning path and automatically rinses carpet clean on the backward pull. The SpinScrub brushes agitate ground-in dirt and can be turned off with a simple switch. Using a two-tank design that holds up to a gallon of water at a time, the cleaner automatically blends the cleaning solution, so you do not have to monitor it. Both tanks feature an enclosed design and convenient handles, making them easy to remove and transport. The recovery tank automatically shuts off suction when full and comes with a built-in lint screen. A removable view window on the nozzle lets you see dirty water returning to the machine.

For above-floor tasks, the cleaner comes with an 8-foot hose, a stair/upholstery tool, and a SpinScrub hand tool with rotating brushes. Conversion to tool cleaning is manual but quick, and you can remove the hose and tool caddy altogether for more streamlined use. The cleaner comes with a carrying handle, a 27-foot cord, quick-release cord hooks, and a foot pedal to release the handle. Fingertip switches and a trigger control the rinsing, washing, and Clean Surge functions. The removable brushes and a beltless design simplify maintenance. Hoover includes two 16-ounce bottles of detergent, one for carpet and one for bare floors, and backs up the machine with a full one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars MUCH better than expected
I have to say, I am pleasantly surprised with this machine. My wife and I have been researching deep cleaning machines for a while, and we have gone back and forth on a few different models. We have 2 very crazy dogs, both under a year old, and we have a very wet backyard. So, with spring (mud season) coming, we finally decided to stop comparing and just purchase something. We went to Home Depot, bought the cleaner for a whopping 300 bucks, and I must admit, being a pessimist, I was fully expecting the product to work just "okay". After some very easy assembly and reading of directions, we were ready to go. We started in our family room, which has a deep blue small pile carpet, and was just vaccumed about 2 hours before. There were 2 stains from dogs urinating on the carpet, where the previous cleaning attempts didn't work too well. We followed the directions to the letter, and about 15 minutes later the entire room (15x24) was completely clean. The carpet was back to it's original deep blue, the week-old urine stains were totally gone, and the water in the waste chanber was utterly disgusting (almost black). I was totally surprised that it cleaned as deeply as it did. The carpet was a little wet, but with a few extra passes, it got dry enough to walk on. About 4 hours later, it was completely dry to the touch. After the family room, we went to our bedroom, which has a very plush, thick pile khaki-colored carpet. It had multiple doggy vomit stains as well as one very nasty doggy diarrhea stain that just would not come out. Neither myself or my wife figured it would work all that well, but we gave it a shot. The 5 vomit stains, some about 4 weeks old and repeatedly worked over with a sponge, came out in 7-10 slow passes. The diarrhea stain came out after about 15-20 slow passes. Now, this used a ton of water, but all the stains came out completely. I was shocked. This product really works, if you give it time for deep stains. We have paid $150 for Stanley Steemer to do our carpets a few times, and I have to admit, I think the Hoover did a better job. We have only had it for a few weeks, but we have been totally satisfied. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for two reasons. The first is that you have to change the clean water, dirty water, and detergent tanks alot. When we were cleaning the family room, I think we had to change both the clean water and dirty water tanks 3 times, for a 15x24 room. The detergent tank (16 oz.) was empty at the end of cleaning the room. The second reason is that the Hoover does no better than a $5 mop for hard floors. We have both tile and hardwood floors, and we tried it on both. I was very unimpressed. DO NOT buy this product if want to clean your hard floors. ABSOLUTELY BUY THIS PRODUCT if you want extremely clean carpets, and total ease of use. It is fantastic.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this machine!!
Let's say carpet cleaning is NO my big thrill in life. I purchases a similar Eureka model. It was a bit more than the Eureka, but well worth every penny. I has a separate load for the soap, you fill with your own warm water in a nice large tank so you don't have to stop every 5 minutes and load. This permits you not only to clean the carpet, but rinse it so you don't have soap residue. It has a large easy to remove collection tank, easy to dump. It picked up three times the moisture from the carpet than the Eureka. When I cleaned with Eureka it took days for the carpet to be dry. With the Hoover the next day it was completely dry.

It was easy to push. I could clean a room in a matter of a few minutes. It promises deep cleans and it delivers. So forget about renting those back-breaking cleans that are cumbersome to use. Forget wasting money on ones that don't clean good or remove water from the carpet. Spend a little more and get the RIGHT STUFF!

5-0 out of 5 stars If it doesn't work right, it's you!
Read reviews b4 buying my Hoover SteamVac V2 and was hesitant because several owners reported it was garbage or prone to breakdowns. Researched all brands thoroughly and decided on this one. It is awesome. It took two minutes to prepare it for cleaning. Changes water very easily, and takes two minutes to clean it after use. No dripping hoses, no nozzles, connectors, or little parts that require dissasembling b4 putting it away. It was as easy as vacuuming and very effective. I had an old Bissell and seldom used it 'cause it was too cumbersome to put together and handle. As I get older I wanted something that was easy to get out and use, didn't require alot of physical strength or agility, AND THIS IS IT. I'll never have dirty carpets again!!

1-0 out of 5 stars 2nd time using -- just threw it in the trash
I have never been happier to throw something away than this piece of garbage. Unfortunately, I cannot return it since, assuming it was a quality product, I threw out the packaging and receipts after assembling and briefly testing it. It is a hassle to use (it will take you 10 times longer to clean than you can possibly imagine), does a pathetic job cleaning, and it leaks like crazy out of both the clean water reservoir and the dirty water reservoir. It goes through the VERY expensive soap so fast that it is an act of sheer stupidity to buy this thing instead of hiring professional cleaners (not to mention that many professionals now use non-soap cleaners that don't leave the caked-on-residue feeling on the carpet that this machine does). Plus, you have to apply protectant AFTER cleaning. NUTS! Don't bother with Bissell either, or any other manufacturer. I bought a Bissell canister model several years ago, and it was too much hassle to use. These machines are all clunky, slow, and do a very poor job. Professionals do a better job, are much faster, and are probably cheaper than buying huge volumes of soap.

1-0 out of 5 stars Prone to breakdowns
While the machine is effective at vacuuming, the machine has been a dud. I've used the machine four times and its already broken down two times. Once the spin brushes jammed and more recently, the top water tank seal broke. These problems seem common based on other reviews. I would avoid this product until Hoover fixes these issues. ... This powerful home steam vacuum saves you the expense and hassle of having to rent a steam cleaner and keeps rugs, upholstery, and bare floors (other than hardwoods) looking like new. The powerful 12-amp motor combined with five spinning brushes that operate at either high or low speed lift the usual dirt and grime out of carpets. By pulling on the trigger in the comfortable upright handle, this deep cleaner releases the included carpet/upholstery cleaner and hot tap water. For more stubborn stains or for high-traffic areas, this SteamVac also has a Clean Surge feature, which sends an extra blast of cleaning solution into the stain by simply pressing a button on the handle. When cleaning is complete, release the trigger and the SteamVac forces hot air into the cleaning path so you can do a few dry strokes over the stain. This deep cleaner has two separate water tanks to keep clean water apart from dirty water. The top tank holds the detergent and 1 gallon of hot water and automatically mixes the two so you don’t need to get your hands wet. The lower tank holds the dirty solution picked up from the carpet and unlatches to easily pour out into a sink without spilling.

For cleaning stairs or upholstery, this deep cleaner has a long 8-foot hose and a special stair/upholstery nozzle that scrubs out spots. Other attachments include a bare floor nozzle and a powered hand tool that is also ideal for upholstery or small carpet areas. All tools are mounted on the front of the vac in a handy case. Other features of this deep cleaner include a brush indicator, which informs you that the brushes are spinning; an on/off foot pedal; a handle release pedal; and a 27-inch wraparound cord. The Hoover SteamVac is covered by a full one-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac is awsome machine
Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac is the best. I had Regina SteamCleaner for about 9 years until I bought Hoover F5914-900 yesterday. Hoover is made in USA and the quality shows in overall design and operation. This is as close as it gets to the Hoover pro machine I rented once that sells for $1099. Amazing cleaning power with 12amp motor and ease of operation. Quality heavy duty durable plastics used, makes it a better value all together. Consumer product still made in USA, not China or Mexico is worth the price tag itself, you will not find a better value in this price range. I looked at Bissell machines also but did not like its overall design, somewhat cheap thin shiny plastic look and low web review ratings.

Use as directed with hot water to loosen the dirt, and go slow give the machine chance to break the dirt and suck it out from the rug. Tanks are smaller than in the pro machine, but machine is lighter and smaller than $1099 Pro Hoover SteamVac monster.

1-0 out of 5 stars Only worked once
Because my Hoover, Model F5866-900, very similar to this one, had such poor relaiability, and, the machine only worked fair one time, then didn't work right again, I vowed to insure people knew they had better use the machine a lot during the first year after purchase. It was unfortunate, but after doing a thorough cleaning, I had my carpets professionally cleaned six months later, and didn't get back to the Hoover for over a year. I would have had to schlep it 200 miles to their service center, and then pay again for a machine that was pretty bad by my estimation. One use is pretty expensive.

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome
Let me say that I have never written an online review before, but this product merits it. I borrowed this cleaner from a friend. We have a beige colored carpet and have never cleaned it in 3 years. I thought it wasn't that dirty because we remove our shoes in the house. Well, this vacuum made me realize that it was really dirty. I put hot water in and did not use cleaner(Ididn't want to leave a residue). I went to work. It does a great job of sucking up the majority of the water. The spin brushes made my carpet stand up and look newer again. I did pre treat the bad spots, but it got up most of the small spots on it's own. I thought it was easy to fill and empty. The reward I got from looking at all that grimey water was all the reward I needed. Needless to say, I will be purchasing this from Amazon. My friend has had it for 2 years and uses it all the time. So will I.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Vacuum!!!
I purchased the Hoover steam vac to help clean up all the puppy stains in my carpet. I have tried those portable vacuums that you can get in the pet shops, I must say this hoover vacuum did wonders for my floors and stairs. It is very easy to use while cleaning. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is because it is hard to take the canisters off and put back on for dumping and filling. I would defentley recommend this product over those portable vacuums.

5-0 out of 5 stars Run - Don't Walk and get this machine
I have two dogs and messy people in our home. After contacting a local carpet cleaner to do a wool area rug I have at the exhorbitant price of $180, I decided that for that price, I could get a steam cleaner and do it myself. I did a lot of research before getting this.

What a great machine this is because of the turbo brushes. They get deep down into the fibers and really scrub and clean the rug. The colors popped as if new again. I did every rug in the house. I too boiled some the water I added to the machine so it would stay hot while I worked. It is pretty easy to set up and use as well.

To the person who gave this a bad rating I say " This is not a Vacuum Cleaner." This is a carpet steamer/cleaner. You have to vacuum your rugs BEFORE your clean them..... Read the instructions.

I think you will use and like this machine and be very glad you got one. ... Read more

No assembly is necessary to put this compact, lightweight vacuum to work washing spills and soil out of carpets and upholstery. Using a combination of hot tap water and cleaning solution applied with a finger trigger, the vacuum washes fibers and then sucks up the dirty water and transports it to a second tank. (Both clean- and dirty-water tanks are transparent for water-level monitoring.) Weighing just 9 pounds, the 480-watt vacuum has an easy-access on/off switch on the handle and empties with one hand through a spout. It's 12 inches in diameter and 13 inches high. The hose is 5 feet long and the cord 12 feet, and, for storage, the hose wraps around the bottom and the cord around the top. Accompanying the vacuum is an 8-ounce bottle of detergent. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Full steam ahead!
I was shopping for a carpet steam cleaner for two main reasons: 1 - my kids were making messes all over the rugs in the house, and 2 - I always seem to be cleaning up the carpets in my cars fairly often. I needed something that was portable enough to let me room the house in search for stains and I also needed something that didn't require a hot-water hookup so I could use it in the garage. This little unit fits the bill perfectly. My wife & I are totally amazed at how well it removes stains (we were able to shampoo out a 4 month old orange juice stain on the carpet that endless hand-scrubbing couln't budge). Some people might be skeptical about not having a hot-water hook up, but I just get the hottest tap water I can find and then go right to work. This little machine did wonders in the cars removing grease and oil stains from the floor mats! I love this machine!

3-0 out of 5 stars Works very well on small jobs, like spots. Extremely LOUD.
If your goal is to remove the occasional spot, and even clean an occasional small piece of upholstered (water-safe) furniture, this machine really really works.

I got the Steamvac Jr. to clean up small stains left by my dog, who likes to chew treats on our off-white carpet, and who spends hours each day on our beige sofa. Wow, it really removes the spots! In fact it cleans so well, it actually leaves "clean spots" behind so I have to avoid over-cleaning for fear of drawing attention to the place.

I even used the machine to clean a sofa, which is very very time consuming because the machine has a tiny business end, but it did a great job.

Don't be misled by the name. This machine does NOT heat water into a blast of steam. It simply sprays on hot tap water (and detergent) that you pour in; then it vacuums it back out, along with the dirt. It's a small, easily carried spray & vac machine -- not a boiler.

The machine is offensively loud. It seems to me like the people designing it must not have cared for even a moment how loud it was -- like they weren't even trying to be civil or responsible. Since it takes quite a few minutes to clean a large item (say, a chair) with the teeny little washing head, the noise is a problem. I actually put on hearing protection when operating it for long.

But hey, the machine really really works, and it'll pay for itself the first 1-2 times you use it. I'm glad I bought it. Just remember to protect your hearing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Cleaner for the Money
I just got this today to clean up a mess my cat made on my couch. Like other reviewers said, this does NOT create steam, but instead uses hot tap water (I'm not sure why they named it "Steamvac").It worked well and cleaned up the spots on my couch. There was plenty of dirty water in the recovery tank, which proves that it does suction. Many small cleaners like this spray solution on, but don't suction it back out.

I didn't think it was overly loud, considering it is a vacuum. It is very light and easy to carry. The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars is because it doesn't have a rotating brush to help scrub out stains. Of course, I knew this when I bought it, but it would've been a nice feature.

5-0 out of 5 stars SUPER - STEAMVAC
I just received the Hoover Steamvac and used it today on my sofa. WOW! it worked great and it does indeed have great suction, which you need to pull the dirty water out of the fabric. I will recomend it to my family.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I bought this item based on the mostly glowing reviews posted & was totally excited to use this for existing stains/future stains. We too are a multiple pet household. I am returning it today. As other ppl. did , I tried it on old stains-- they are still there. I tried it on some week old coffee droplets-- they are still there. I am going to stick with Resolve/Spot Shot & a little elbow grease. This machine was completely underwhelming. ... Read more

This lightweight (10-pound), 205-watt machine keeps a house spiffy in a myriad of ways. Snap scrub brushes onto its two power shafts and it scours hard floors. With three sets of pads, it will then wax, buff, and polish those same floors. In carpeted areas, snap on two shampoo brushes and get the carpets deeply clean. For floors that can be cleaned with water, and for carpets, a removable 1-gallon tank serves for mixing water and floor cleaner (a 16-ounce bottle is included) or water and rug-and-carpet shampoo (a 16-ounce bottle is included) that is then dispensed using a finger trigger. The machine is 43 inches high, has a handle hole for hanging in a closet, and assembles with a single nut and bolt (which are included). An accompanying booklet provides instructions for cleaning and polishing various hard floors and carpets by using different materials and methods. Hoover warrants the machine against defects for one year. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great rug shampooer
This machine is great. A child can use it. It was very easy to put together. Less then 5 minutes. I have 3 cats, a dog and 3 teenage girls that have friends over all the time. They all spill on my carpets and forget to clean up. My carpets had so many stains. I used this machine with the stiffest brushes and man did it get the stains out. I was amazed. I had a hoover once before and it did a great job. I was concerned this time because the unit was smaller. But it did the job just as well. I am very happy with this unit and would advise anyone to use it.

4-0 out of 5 stars could have used more info before I bought
The machine is very light, easy to set up and use, but the waxing, buffing and polishing that I wanted to do on my kitchen floors can ONLY BE DONE ON WOOD FLOORS, which I don't have. The instructions say it CANNOT be used on 'no wax floors"!(I tried it-took the shine off) The ads state you can wax and polish 'hard floors', which I took to mean non carpeted areas, so I probably would not have purchased it if I had known. There is no water extractor, so it's not good for large carpet areas. It will stay wet a LONG time. For just floor scrubbing, it's great! Light, easy, etc as above. Couldn't ask for an easier, lighter machine -- if only I could use it for more tasks!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lasted Many Years
My mother bought one of these way back in the 70s! It performed flawlessly for over 20 years and let me tell you, it's been through some pretty rough times. It's been knocked down a flight of stairs, accidently stepped on and tripped over, banged into walls and radiators, flipped over a banister and fell about 15 feet to the floor, and the worst time, my mother literally strangled my sister after she borrowed it for her apartment. It was 1984 and she had just moved into the apartment. She said she needed it to shampoo the carpets real bad cause' they were filthy. But apparently after she shampooed them she decided she didn't like the color of the carpets. So she filled up the tank with navy blue dye and turned it on. She was successful at dying all of the carpets navy blue but the entire base/bottom, scrub brushes, and the tank were permanently stained blue. My mother pulled up in the driveway one day to find the thing sitting on the porch. After seeing the condition it was in she had a nervos breakdown and brought it inside. She immediatly called my sister and caused one of the worst fights between them ever. Saying that she must "have a screw loose", she's "off her rocker", etc. etc. My sister didn't talk to her for weeks and in the meantime my mother was nagging constantly and telling the whole town about what her daughter had done to her Hoover Carpet Shampooer Machine. The day that it happened, my Aunt was visiting and they tried to clean it and removed massive amounts of dirt clumps and cat hair from the scrubber area. For weeks I never heard the end of her nagging and swearing over the whole ordeal. But it still worked perfectly for many years to come! The blue stains faded over time and my mother and sister are close again. But my mother hesitates whenever she asks to borrow anything! Sadly, the mighty maching performed it's last shampoo job the other day straining to finish the job so it could finally rest in peace after it's long, hard knock life. It was a good carpet machine and will be greatly missed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Machine to have!
We got ours about a week ago and spent this past weekend scrubbing our dining room/kitchen floors- self-stick tiles. Awesome job, only took about 2 hrs of slow careful scrubbing, the machine does ALL the work, you only have to move it back and forth and mop up. Should've invested in this a long time ago, sure helped make our floors shine!

5-0 out of 5 stars Supreme Dream
I just noticed on the bottle of bare floor cleaner that came with this machine that you CAN use this machine on linoleum, tile, ceramic, no wax floors, etc. You can't use on wood flooring (what I thought you could only use the bare floor items on). That makes this machine even better! I love the lightweight feature of this machine and how well it cleans my carpets. I have never used the bare floor function because I thought it was for hard wood flooring only. A little bit of water will sling out onto the bottom of your furniture when you use the carpet shampooer if you get really close to the furniture. Other than that, this has been a supreme dream! ... Built with a dual air path, the Hoover SteamVac V2 cleansfloors deeply and helps them dry quickly, thanks to its spinningbrushes and powerful edge-to-edge suction. A 12-amp machine with an11-inch cleaning path, the vacuum works on both carpets and upholsterythrough a combination of floor nozzle suction and hose attachments. 5-0 out of 5 stars So Far - So Good!!
I have been reading allot of reviews on cleaners from vacuums to steamers and hand held vacuums all over the net and it seems as though Hoover is getting bashed quite a bit for bad design and being over priced in these reviews. I have upgraded my cleaning equipment recently to this model the Hoover F7220-900 SteamVac V2 and the Hoover WindTunnel Bagless Deluxe Upright Vacuum Model No. U5750-900 both purchased from Walmart off the net to maintain a second house recently purchased. The rugs on the second story and stairwell are under a yr. old. The rugs on the first floor are original and 13 yrs. old. Upon purchase the seller hired a Professional cleaning service (Price $350.00) to clean all rugs upon their departure and they did look brand new upon completion of his job. However after releasing the new Hoover machines into action, I realized that these home units just may surpass the cleaning ability of commercial cleaning units. The Hoover F7220-900 SteamVac V2 pulled up more deep imbedded grit, dirt and soap residue left behind after the pro-cleaner, I mean the water was dirty (Brown) DARK-BROWN.. The rinse feature is truly a great feature as mentioned in many other testimonials.

So far both the Hoover products rock and have exceeded my expectations in their ability to clean. I have had no problems with leakage, cracked tanks, broken belts, accessory problems our failure of mechanical integrity of any kind.

Like others I am concerned with MFG. using so many plastic parts these days over the metal of yester year but the proof is evidently in the technology of these modern machines and how well they work.

Although only 3-months into action on these machines, SO FAR SO GOOD!

5-STARS ..

5-0 out of 5 stars I love my hoover
I have the cleanest carpets anywhere, thanks to my new hoover. I love it. The water containers fit in my sink, no pre mixing. The carpet was dry where I started by the time I'd finnished the room. Don't waste your money renting the Rug Doctor. This machine out performs it easily.
The other reviews mentioned leaking water. I noticed the same thing after one refil. I reinserted the tank and the leaking stopped.
I also love that you can easily remove all the parts to rinse the dirty carpet nastiness from the brushes and the suction V. Very cool

1-0 out of 5 stars Watch out for Hoover
I bought a Hoover steam cleaner and it worked - once. Of course, since I subsequently had my carpets professionally cleaned, it was over a year before I went to steam clean my carpets in a few dirty spots. No good with water release to the carpet part, in spite of many correct arrangements of the tanks, review of trouble shooting, going over all the assembly. It was not going to get any water to those brushes. What a huge amount of money for one cleaning. I decided to write a review for every steam cleaner they made. Good luck, and make sure you use it a lot before the warranty is up.

1-0 out of 5 stars Clean Water Tank Cracks
I was foolish enough to beleive that the problems experienced by other Hoover owners were special to them. After a few carpet cleanings, our Hoover Steam Vac V - clean water tank cracked on the bottom where the connection is made for water supply. After so many complaints from unsatisfied customers, why would Hoover continue to sell a product with a faulty part? Answer: They don't care. They assume (probably quite accurately) that most consumers will experience the problems after the warranty period, thus creating new business for themselves. SHAME ON YOU HOOVER!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing machine
Bought this machine recently and have to say I'm quite impressed. Cleans all kinds of carpets from regular shag to berber very well. I was a little wary at first before buying because of the number of complaints on here about it leaking, but I think if you assemble it like it says in the manual, it's a pretty solid machine. I did not have any trouble with leaks of any kind. In fact I got consistently good results on all the carpets I used it on. The spin scrub brushes were quite effective. Did not use it much on upholstery though, so cannot say about that. Only complaint is that you have to refill it quite often if you're cleaning large rooms. But I guess that's a compromise that has to be made to keep this thing easy to maneuver. Bottomline: Great machine. Just be sure to read and follow the instructions on how to assemble and use it. ... Amazon.com Review

With its five spinning brushes and fingertip controls, the 12-amp Hoover SteamVac V2 gets carpet, upholstery, and tough stains clean deep down. The cleaner is also suitable for tile, ceramic, marble, and linoleum floors (though not appropriate for hardwoods). Constructed with a dual-nozzle air path, the cleaner provides powerful edge-to-edge suction for thorough cleaning and efficient water removal. Designed to agitate the dirt out of carpet fibers and off bare floors, the SpinScrub brushes can be turned off with a simple switch and removed for easy maintenance. The cleaner uses a two-tank design that holds up to a gallon of water at a time and automatically mixes the cleaning solution, so you don’t have to monitor it. Both tanks are enclosed with convenient handles, making them easy to remove and transport. The recovery tank automatically shuts off suction when it’s full and comes with a built-in lint screen. A removable view window on the nozzle lets you see dirty water returning to the machine.

For above-floor tasks, the cleaner features an 8-foot hose and a stair/upholstery tool. Conversion to tool cleaning is manual but quick, and you can remove the hose and tool caddy altogether for more streamlined use. The cleaner comes with a carrying handle, a 27-foot cord, quick-release cord hooks, and a foot pedal to release the handle. Fingertip switches control rinsing and washing, and a trigger lets you release an extra surge of cleaning solution. The beltless design, as well as the removable brushes and nozzle cover, simplify maintenance. Hoover includes a 16-ounce bottle of carpet/upholstery detergent and backs up the machine with a full one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't last more than 6 months
We bought this carpet cleaner about 6 months ago, and have used it about 5 times since then. After 3 uses, the push-valve on the soap container broke, so we could not put anything in there and have to mix the soap directly in the water container. Just recently, after the 4th use, the push valve to the water tank came loose, so now it leaks water all over the place. The dirty water container on the bottom has always leaked dirty water once you remove it to empty it. We have to use a bucket to carry it to empty so it does not drip dirty water everywhere. Now, after after our last use, the water pump broke and now we can't use the machine at all. What a waste of money! We plan to return it to Hoover, but I don't want a new one, I want my money back! I'd suggest looking into a different brand if I were you.

1-0 out of 5 stars Trash
I've logged less than 5 hours on my steam vac. It's been in the closet for the last six months and when I pulled it out todato fill the water tank, I found that the bottom was rotted out. How can this be??? I kept my vac clean between uses and never stored chemicals in the holding tanks. The manucturer's date on the bottom is August 2003.

I've read some of the complaints about this vac and had thought I was alone. My deduction is this... it's a piece of trash. Maytag/Hoover should be ashamed to put this product on the market.

I'm a machinist by trade and found that the bottom of the tank where the 'rot' occurred is less than .020 thick. Folks, that's about the thickness of 3 human hairs. I'll follow up this post with a complaint directly to the manufacturer. It's disgusting.

1-0 out of 5 stars looses suction
My model F5872-900 Hoover SteamVac is constantly loosing suction and I have to stop, reseat the recovery tank. I am so disgusted with this problem. Otherwise, it cleans well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dirty Water spills and leaky containers
I've had this about 6 months and have probably logged 5 hours total on it. The cleaner works great, but if the waste water container gets too foamy (no way to control amout of detergent dispensed), it starts spitting the dirty water back onto the rug. The dirt doesn't show up again until it dries, so its very important to empty the waste water before it indicates.
Another problem that has surfaced is that the clean water tank has developed a leak at the bottom valve and becomes a steady stream when the system is running...the net result is water everywhere...making for a slippery mess. I think the system is great, but it takes a while to learn the quirks of this machine.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this thing!
I'm a cleaner and I also have allergies to dust, mold, pollen and also have two cats so I love when my place is fresh, clean and sparkling. I own this thing and I love it.

I originally borrowed my mother's and after using it was surprised at how clean everything was. I've had a number of comments from friends that the rugs look brand new. Better yet, I was dating someone who had severe asthma and when he walked in, he took a deep breath and said: "You cleaned your carpets, right?" He didn't wheeze one bit the entire time he was there.

I also own a Dyson vacuum. Love that, too. When I power clean, I'll vacuum over everything slowly and thoroughly first. All the cat hair picks up plus dust, dirt and my own hair. Then I'll start working with the Hoover. Despite the power behind the Dyson, the water in the Hoover is always dark when I'm washing. Within a short amount of time, the rugs feel great! There is a rinsing option as well if you want to make sure all of the cleaner is out of the rug and you can pretty much go over everything without depressing the clean button to suck up excess water.

This also has a squeegee attachment to do the linoleum floors. Good idea. Scrubs then scoops up the water and sucks it up. There is a a different detergent for linoleum so take a look around. However, it is very LOUD when doing bare floors. Not recommended at night. :)

Also, there are two Hoover SteamVacs, one with more brushes. My mother's had the fewer amount and I haven't noticed any difference between the two. I just ended up with the bigger one because when I ordered the smaller from Sears, they sent the larger by mistake and said: "Oh, well, you get it for the other price." Good deal!

Good tip: If you want to clean in the winter -- don't hesitate! Especially when it's really cold outside. Not only does it get the dirt that's been laying around while your windows are all shut but when it's so cold that the humidity is at 0 you'll be surprised how fast the rugs dry. I did mine just now an hour ago and they're all dry.

The only thing I'd recommend is to buy a allergenic detergent. The best one I've used is Bissell 720 Multi-Allergen Removal Formula, which you can find on Amazon.com. This really seems to do the trick when it comes to getting out the junk in the rugs.

Things do snap apart for cleaning and can take a little time, but if you vacuum thoroughly enough before hand you shouldn't have this excess of junk to pull out. There are some crevices where things can get up into, but snap it off, turn on the garbage disposal and get the faucet hose and you should be good.

With all vacuums and rug machines, I have this advice: You have to go slowly with ANY machine. Not snail-slow, but don't go so fast! Give both time to really pick up. If you sweep too fast, it misses the dirt. Quick swiping is alright for last minute company cleaning, but once a week I really take my time with my vacuum. A good rule of thumb for cleaning (if you really want that fresh look without overloading the machine with dirt) would be vacuum once a week -- wash once a month.

The combo of both these machines has well been worth it. I recommend this machine for any household and if you want super clean, get the Dyson vacuum as well. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Don't get mad ..get STEAMED!! :)
Me Steamed..and the Hoover DELUXE Hand/Mop Steam Cleaner is the reason.
I don't know about you people ..but I like to leave cleaning till there is some discussion as to WHEN life will spontaneously form in the black tar like substance around the toilet base...or the Girl friend threatens to leave.Either way..time to get cheap and lazy.

Enter the hoover hand held DELUXE mop ..
Point this puppy at anything even looking like a genetically mutant fungus, turn the STEAM all the way up, and..BAM..whatever "IT" was is cooked, disolved , blown away..and left floating in water for a quick spounge up.. I suspect I could make a mean soup with the liquid goo in the spounge..but thats another review.

Staying on point ..it s not all glory..It is a little awkward in tight spaces..gets a little heavy...stops spewing steam at extreme angles..(just TURN UP the steam, keep the water topped up !!!)...The Brushes seem cheap ...the triangle brush smells funny when heated with the steam ..

Overall.. For cheap... I did not have to get mad..I got Steamed .. AND the G/f stayed... YAAAY!!..now..how to make steamed milk with it..hmmmm

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent steam cleaner
After using this item to clean the kitchen and bathroom I would have to say it works pretty much as advertised. The unit heats up incredibly fast and the steam is scalding hot at close range, but cools down quickly even 6 inches away.

It liquified decade old grease, dirt, dust, that strong cleaners had difficulty removing. It cut through soap scum on glass without a problem, however for whatever reason it did not cut through the same scum on the tub.

This unit is good to use as a handheld device for grills, stoves, oven, toilet, counters, car wheels, etc.

When trying to steam clean floors, carpets, or the like the small water tank, cost of replacement attachments, and lack of full size power limits it's usefullnes in these applications.

The system does act strange in that you have to hold it at certain angles to generate greater amounts of steam on lower settings, but you can crank up the pressure to compensate.

These types of devices are really the way to go for general cleaning applications. Scalding hot steam works well and you avoid exposing yourself to harsh chemicals, fumes, and toxins.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed.....Major!
The wife wanted a handheld steam cleaner to get to the tight, tough to reach spots and also to help sterilize the baby's toys, etc. We tried the parent's cleaner from Shark and were thrilled with the results, but didn't want to put a ton of money into one, so we figured a brand name company like Hoover would have a great product. Boy, were we wrong. Upon initial inspection, the cleaner looks really impressive. Upon use, my opinion changed fast. The cleaner "heats" really fast, but it never really gets hot (I was able to hold my hand 3 inches from the nozzle and it only felt warm). The steam runs continuously, there is no way to start/stop the steam without turning the unit off and then back on and waiting for it to warm back up (although you can vary the amount of steam). There is really no force/pressure behind the steam coming out either (it pretty much just gets stuff wet). The "jet" nozzle only points downward also, making it near impossible to get in between tight spots or next to the floor. There could be a saving grace somewhere with this machine, but after an hour of refilling the tank, turning the machine on & off, waiting for it to heat, and getting cramps from twisting/bending to get this huge cleaner into tight spots, we promptly packaged it back up and returned it to Amazon without even trying any other attachments because we were so disappointed (without even giving it a second thought). Guess we will have to fork out the extra money to get one that really works as advertised. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Steam Vac?
Very Misleading carpet cleaner name "Steam Vac". Where is the steam? There is no steam, just hot water that gets cold very fast. I used mine around the house and it made the carpets wet...did not do much to the stains. I rented a steam Cleaner and it did a lot better. For the money I will just rent for a large job. For the small stuff a brush and a small bucket of carpet shampoo in hot water will do the same or better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hoover Does It Again!
I love the fact that Hoover knows how to make house cleaning easier. This was the first product my husband purchased for me and its jewel. I use it not only for carpets and furniture but to clean out my car carpets and seats. What could be simpler that pouring hot water and the solution into it and letting it do all the work. Way to go Hoover!

3-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for.
I wish I'd spent more and bought a better model with the power brushes. This model does an adequate job and is simple enough to operate that I use it frequently. I wish that they had made it so that the front cover over the area where the water is sucked up could be cleaned. I hate putting it away with the gunk like carpet fibers and lint in there (ok, so I'm a little obsessive).

2-0 out of 5 stars OK, but no scrubbing action
The box on my unit said "Dual Brush Action", which apparently means that the brush drags on the carpet whether you're pushing it forwards or backwards. I had assumed that "action" meant the brush actually moved (silly me). Please note that I did not buy mine from Amazon, and that dubious "Dual Brush Action" claim is conspicuously absent in the description here.

This model SteamVac works well enough (how wrong can you go with hot detergent water?) but not nearly as well as the fancier Hoovers that have rotating brushes, which I have also used. I don't think the modest price difference comes close to compensating for the loss in cleaning power. I'll be trading mine for a better model with a moving brush.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good buy for the money
I learned that you really do need to vacuum the floor before using the steam vac. It was worth a try...

Pros: Cleans well, although not perfectly - pretreating and repeated cleaning was required more than I'd hoped, and it wasn't THAT dirty! The rug dried within an hour or two - faster than expected. Surprisingly maneuverable. I cleaned my cat's futon (so she's spoiled, sue me) that was truly nasty with the steam vac and it came out really nice. She approves.

Cons: I was quite disappointed with its performance on bare (vinyl) floors. The "bare floor attachment" doesn't stay on easily. Repeating a cleaning in a few days to finish the job was a minor inconvenience (it's a new toy) and made a big difference. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fire the cleaning lady!
2 kids a dog and "oatmeal" carpet, this purchase was long overdue. Not only does it get out everyday dust and dirt, it works on juice spills, dog tracks, and red GA clay. The upholstery/stair attachment works great on the upholstery, stairs. I have used this on the car interior and it works perfectly! I highly recommend this model: it is affordable and will pay for itself the second time you use it. The only draw back is that the cord is a bit short, and the hose attachment is too short to reach my stairs: probably a sacrifice to the amount of suction the attachment provides.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Hoover SteamVac really sucks (which is really good)
This carpet cleaner is great! I bought it yesterday to clean the 1500 sq feet of carpet in my apartment before the landlord inspects the place, and was thoroughly impressed at its performance. I used one gallon of hot water & cleaner solution (included in the box) to clean one-half of a 12x12 room with some pretty heavy dirt and spill stains in it. The carpet ended up cleaner and softer than I could have ever imagined, and (with the help of a fan), it dried in just a couple hours. The pile that had been crushed down flat for years was significantly lifted, and all the stale carpet odors were gone.

Assembly only took one screwdriver, and was straightforward. It's not too loud, or too difficult to maneuver. The brushes got amazingly close to the edge of the carpet, and the dirty water that came out of the carpet looked like chocolate milk. It took only a few minutes to get used to using the Steam Vac, and though tricky at first, the clean and dirty water buckets remove and install easily. I was also impressed with the sturdy overall construction.

The only (slight) drawbacks:

When I removed the dirty water tank, there was some very light dripping of the spent cleaning solution onto the carpet, but no major spills. The fresh cleaning solution in the tank cooled down quiet a bit before I used up the entire 1-gallon reservoir. It started out from the tap at around 110 degrees, and after about 30 minutes in the machine, dropped down to 90 or so. I solved this by pouring it into a microwave safe container and re-heating it to around 120 with a thermometer. I don't know how high of a temperature the machine can take, so I didn't go much hotter than that. Also, the sharp, hard corners on the front of the cleaner could damage baseboards if you slam it into them, so be careful around walls.

Months ago, I rented a huge, ten-gallon professional rug cleaner, and found it nearly impossible to use compared to the Hoover. It took ten times as much work without the scrubbing brushes, and the results were not as dramatic. Plus, not being handy with the huge cleaner, I tended to oversoak the rug with the solution. Considering I'll need to clean the carpets several times within the next six months, The Hoover Steam Vac will eventually pay for itself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised
This is the first carpet steamer I've owned. I considered purchasing a Bissell but was turned off by the low ratings in the reviews. After lots of comparisons, I chose this Hoover. I've only used it once so far, but it seems a great value for the money. I cannot believe the amount of CRUD it removed from the carpet!!! The waste water was absolutely appalling but proof that it did a great job. In fact, it did a better job than ANY cleaners I've rented from the hardware store or anyone I've hired. The suction is good and the floors dried much faster than I anticipated, for which my cat is also thankful :) I can't wait to try it on the upholstery. I wish the tanks were bigger, but they are so easy to attach/detach that it's not a big deal. And bigger tanks = added weight. I think the switch for the brush speed could have been made a little beefier, but I can overlook that since I'm impressed with the overall performance. You can't go wrong with this one!

1-0 out of 5 stars Hoover Machine Fails After One Use
I have written this review on many of the Hoover Steam Vacs sites because my Hoover stopped sending water to the brushes after one use. It was fair in its performance the first time, and so I wonder about all these raves??? Not working again was so disappointing that I thought I'd better alert folks to be very careful to use the machine often in the first year while there is still a warranty

5-0 out of 5 stars works great
I bought this vacuum about 8 months ago and it works great. With 2 kids and 5 animals in the house it surprised me with the amount of stains it took out of the carpet. My husband is a mechanic and his car seats are soiled in grease. I was shocked that it cleaned the seats so well. Even though all the seat stains were not gone, it looked great. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Cleaner
This is an excellent carpet cleaner! I just purchased one to take care of my new carpeting which is cream colored and in a house with 2 kids and two dogs. I had an extra piece of carpet bound and use it as a mat at the front door so people could take off their shoes. Even with all of the precautions it is amazing at how much dirt builds up! When I took the mat up to clean the carpet, the carpet under the mat was a good two shades lighter than the rest of the room. I used the Hoover, and now the whole room matches the color of the carpet that was covered! I did have a noticeable line in the carpet where the mat ended. Two passes with the clean surge button and the dirt was out. I was a little concerned with the amount I spent on the machine, but considering how much carpeting costs and how well this machine made the cream colored carpet look like it was just installed, I think it is well worth the money!! I would suggest this machine to anyone, the only drawback to the machines I used to rent is the water capacity is about a gallon which means more trips to the sink to empty and refill, but because the tanks are easy to remove and put back this is tolerable because it doesn't take too long to do. As far as cleaning it is superb!

5-0 out of 5 stars Muddy Paw Prints...take that! ;)
Earlier this year I bought a Hoover bagless upright vacuum and was very pleased with the machine. So, I decided it was time to go a step beyond picking up dog hair and get rid of those muddy paw prints as well. Since I was so happy with Hoover's vacuum and after seeing all the rave reviews on here I decided to buy the F6030-900 SteamVac.

I'm certainly not disappointed. This carpet cleaner does a very very good job, is easy to move (as easy as a carpet cleaner can be!), and is really easy to add/change cleaning solution. Also, the hand-held scrubber comes in very handy. When the normal cleaning process wouldn't get that big mud stain off the floor I snapped the brush on the hose and that spot was gone in a matter of seconds.

Don't rent a bulky RugDoctor every again. This is well worth the money. Besides, think about how much new carpet cost...YIKES!

Happy shampooing :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent cleaning for carpets & furniture
This is probably the best purchase I've ever made for my home. I have two dogs and an 8-year-old house, yet my carpets looks great! This rug cleaner has rotating heads that scrub the hot water and cleaning solution into your carpet and powerful suction that sucks the solution and dirt right out -- keeping the rugs immaculate and the pile of the carpeting straight. Yes, it does leave a little moisture behind, but if you use hot water with your cleaning solution, the carpet dries fast -- the carpet dries in just a few hours. Though the brochures say this machine also will clean bare floors I find it too cumbersome to attempt -- easier to use an old fashioned mop than to get the machine ready for flat floor cleaning. One of the great things about this machine is the gentle furniture scrubbing brush attachment -- the bristles are slightly softer and gently scrub your furniture leaving it looking nearly new. This is a GREAT machine. I wouldn't own a home without it!

1-0 out of 5 stars Piece of junk
Spend a few more bucks and buy a real carpet cleaner. It simply doesnt work. Why? Poor engineering. Thanks hoover. Can I have my three hundred bucks back?

5-0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY THE GREATEST!!!!
FOUR KIDS, A GOLDEN RETRIEVER, 3 CATS, A MARINE, 9 MONTHS PREGNANT, TORRENTIAL DOWNPOURS, AND NIGHTMARISH OATMEAL CARPET IN A TWO-STORY HOME. THIS MACHINE HAS BEEN A HEAVEN SENT. IT'S LIGHTER AND LESS CUMBERSOME THAN THE BISSELL AND HASN'T GOT THE BELT WHICH MY DOG'S FUR TENDED TO GET TANGLED IN AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I HAD THE BISSELL PROSTEAMER AND HAD TO TAKE IT IN FOR REPAIRS 3 TIMES IN THE FIRST YEAR. IT FINALLY GOT THROWN IN THE TRASH. THIS WORKS GREAT WITH PET STAINS AND IT'S EXTREMELY EASY TO MANEUVER. I WENT THROUGH THE ENTIRE HOUSE IN 2 DAYS (NESTING TENDS TO DO THAT), AND I WAS SO PLEASED. I'VE HAD NO PROBLEMS CARRYING IT UP AND DOWN THE STAIRS OR GETTING IT INTO SMALLER SPACES WITH THE POWERED BRUSH. MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS THAT IT DIDN'T HAVE AS MANY ATTACHMENTS AS THE ORIGINAL WHICH MY MOTHER HAS, BUT IT'S A SMALL PRICE TO PAY FOR ALL OF THE CONVENIENCE AND VERSATILITY OF THE PRODUCT. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYBODY WHO DOESN'T WANT TO FOOT THE BILL FOR PROFESSIONAL CARPET CLEANERS IN THEIR HOME. IT WILL PAY FOR ITSELF THE FIRST TIME YOU USE IT. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Received and used the Hoover F5300 Floormax
This has to be one of the all time great machines!! In a total of 4 hours from assembling everything to putting everything away, I was able to remove 17 years of wax and grime from my vinyl kitchen and utility room floors. The difference in the before and after floor color and shine is amazing. This machine was extremely easy to use. The directions were very clear. It is light weight and very efficient. The removal of the dirty residue with the vacume action was wonderful. I only had to empty the dirty water tank one time for the whole operation and that was extremely easy. Thank you, Hoover, for such a wonderful addition to my cleaning needs. Now I will not hesitate to do my floors again whenever they need it.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a fantastic product!
I just received the Floormax F5300 as a gift, and I couldn't be happier with it. I am 9 months pregnant and trying to get my house as clean as possible before having the baby. This included stripping the 25-year-old linoleum on my kitchen floor of at least 5 years of floor polish and who knows what else. I tried this once before by hand and got nowhere and, of course, hands-and-knees scrubbing this time was out of the question. The Floormax allowed me to scrub up the old polish, rinse the floor and vacuum it dry in a total of hours -- with one hand. I never knew before what the floor's real color was!! It has also been very handy for shampooing our cream-colored rugs. I only had one small problem with fitting the handle into the body of the scrubber when it first arrived, and I was able to fix that without contacting Hoover. If you have floors, you will love this scrubber.

4-0 out of 5 stars Floor Max F5300
I just ordered the Floor Max from Amazon at the beginning of the week and now it's Friday. It came in record time (I love Amazon.com!) and I've already cleaned my kitchen and bathroom floors. I like the machine for the most part. I can clean my vinyl and tile floors in record time. It does a great job! My ONLY complaint is that the machine does not fit under the lip of my cupboards and therefore doen't clean right up to the baseboard. I have to do this by hand (approx. 2 1/2 inches). In cupboard-less areas it doesn't clean 3/4 inch of floor right next to the baseboard. I'd still buy this machine though.

2-0 out of 5 stars Hoover F5300 Floormax
Problems encounter: Had to guess work on what pads to use, directions weren't clear and no instructions on how to install the pads. The container that holds the cleaning solution doesn't snap in -- had to push in with the palm of my hands which got pinched. The container that holds the cleaning solution is not as large as the other reviewers made it seem (Maybe, a gallon). The machine itself is awkward to handle, the bottom is heavy and when lifting doesn't lock in the upright position. Which slammed on my hardwood floor and ceramic tiles due to the heavy motor. The lack of instructions on how to probably use the enclosed attachments (pads), assembly and the non-lock upright feature has made this product a disappointment. I was ready to send it back but will give it a second try now that I figured out the problem areas. As for the cleaning, don't know, will give it another try.

I read the other reviews and am considering buying. But need to know if this works well for carpets too ? All the reviews seem to only talk about the Hard Floors. ... Read more
