With the 12-amp Proheat self-propelled upright deep cleaner, Bissell has changed the deep-cleaning experience in two key ways: first, you no longer have to break your back pushing the machine around, and second, getting water good and hot is no longer a challenge. The machine is suitable for carpet and water-safe upholstery; it even comes with a bare floor attachment for tackling the grime on your linoleum.

The cleaner is self-propelled in both forward and reverse, though you can manually override this feature if you need to stop to work out a stain or clean upholstery. It contains a built-in heater to get cleaning solution very hot, heating tap water up to 25 extra degrees with a maximum of 180 degrees F. A separate cleaning solution tank lets you set the machine for light or heavy dispersal, and the 1-gallon tank-in-tank water container, while a bit complicated, trims down the machine's overall bulk and weight.

The Proheat has several other notable features, including an oversized 6-row brush roll, a ready-to-use hose, and fingertip controls. It comes with a Scotchgard applicator, a spraying crevice tool, and a stain remover, as well as a practically bionic TurboBrush, complete with its own brush roll. Bissell also builds in a flow indicator to warn you if the tank has run dry and a heater indicator light to eliminate guessing. Helpful details include a carrying handle and quick-release hooks for the power cord. The machine comes with full-size starter bottles of Scotchgard, Bissell Fiber Cleansing Formula, and Bissell Floor Cleansing Formula. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A first-time carpet cleaner
We cleaned our carpets for the first time since moving in and this thing worked miracles with all of our dirty places. The only experience I've had with using carpet cleaners was with the little handheld dirt devil unit (skip that one!). Overall, the machine is easy to use and maintain. The heated water unit is amazing and I don't know how others survive without it. Our carpets look fluffy and brand new again! The handheld attachment works great for stairs and cars, cleaning almost as well as the whole unit.

One word of warning: be careful with the cleaning settings...if you choose "heavy traffic" the machine eats soap like crazy! You could use two 64 oz. bottles for just two rooms if you're not careful!

Since all our carpets are less than 3 years old, when we cleaned them the carpets made tons of fuzzballs that got sucked up into the machine. There doesn't seem to be anyway to pry them out until they dry and either fall out or get sucked in.

5-0 out of 5 stars Self propelled fast and easy cleaning machine
This powerful machine really sucks up dirt and the pile of your carpet, restoring it to a newer appearance. It also removes imbedded pet hair. The heated water and self-propelled features, along with the easy to fill small water container ( I used the bathroom sink) make it easy to use. It's also very quiet, didn't even scare my new kittens and old dog. This is the best carpet cleaner I've owned, and I've had several.

1-0 out of 5 stars The worst $ I ever spent
We bought the first bissel cleaner and it lasted around 13 months before it gave up (just past warrenty). Would quit spraying. The repair man wanted over $80 to fix her and said it was a common problem. Said that the pump & internal hoses were always getting clogged.

I didn't believe him and I thought it did a pretty darn good job cleaning so we went out and bought another one. This one lasted 4 months (two uses) before the same thing happened. Took it to the repair shop as it was still under warrenty. Used in three more times and, guess what? The same problem came back - it would no longer spray water or cleaning solution. This time it was, 1 month past warrenty.

Took it to the guy who did the original repair - who now wanted over $100 to fix it.

So, two machines had the same problem three times over a 2 year period. Too much for just bad luck if you ask me. We're off to buy a Hoover.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed in Connecticut
After reading the reviews on this machine, most of which were positive, I ordered the model 7950. When it arrived, we took it out of the box and put it together...and nothing happened. The motor was working, but nothing else. It wouldn't spray any solution, nor would it take up anything. It just made noise. I have since returned it. I am very disappointed because I was really looking forward to using this machine. Thank you to Amazon for being understanding and making the return process so easy. Maybe if I could get one that works.....

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome Machine, worth every penny!
I just recieved my machine, and couldnt wait to use it!......With two bullmastiffs (10 months and 11 weeks) in the house it sure had its work cut out for it. And WOW! my carpets look almost brand new!.... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Works great on pet stains
Having recently adopted a new puppy, I needed a good carpet cleaner to get up those "accident" stains. I actually had purchased this carpet cleaner back in July, but only just now started using it.

-INCREDIBLY easy to use
-Works GREAT on new stains!
-Heats up quickly
-Not too heavy, easy to lug around
-Attractive design

-Sometimes leaks (I just suck the leaks back up)
-Suction could be better (does a decent job)
-Have to get down on your knees to use this machine
-Somewhat loud, especially when it's on "brush" mode
-Doesn't work that well on old stains

Overall, I have found it to be well worth the cost. It has some downsides, but it does its job well. This cleaner is NOT meant to do entire rooms with, it's best when used for spot cleaning.

While it doesn't work well on old stains, it does work a little. I scrubbed at some older stains with it and they faded to about half what they were before.

That being said, this is a decent product. I have not tried any similar products to compare, as this one does what I needed it to do. I highly recommend it for that reason.

3-0 out of 5 stars Needs improvement
I have an older Bissell model called Little Green Deluxe which I have used successfully for pet stain removal. The various tools have become difficult to remove from my old machine so I just purchased the new Proheat Turbo--I always assume new is better but in this case it is not.

The brush on the turbo just isn't stiff enough. I think there should be a stiff brush for carpets that can take a beating and a softer one for upholstery. The stain I cleaned seems to have been partially removed but some parts look brighter and lighter than others--perhaps the cleaning solution has been improved. However, the heater doesn't do much. Bissell customer service claims the heater will add 25 degrees to the heat of the water/solution mix you add to the input container. Oddly enough the instruction book says you can leave unused solution in the container and ready to go but in talking to a customer representative I was told NOT to do that because the heater will only heat cold water to 25 degrees. They recommended I pour the solution in a different container and heat it in my microwave (but do not boil) and then pour it back into the Bissell input container. Furthermore they suggest you keep unused water/solution mixture in a jar and never in the Bissell container if you will not be using it immediately.

The reason I called customer service is that the second time I used the unit (within a few days of first use), the nozzle had clogged. Easily unclogged with a pin but I never had this happen with my old unit. Instructions say that if the unit doesn't spray the nozzle could be clogged but does not tell you how to unclog it. I got through to customer service right away but was thinking that if this was Sunday when they are closed I would not be able to resolve this issue immediately--best to have had those instructions in the manual.

I also notice that there has been no improvement to the way the tools attach to the hose part. They snap together much like a vaccuum but in time my old unit has become very hard to push the little button down to release the tool from the hose. I have resorted to using the back of a spoon or anything else I can think of to depress this little piece of plastic. I have tried petroleum jelly around the connections hoping it would make the release easier but that did not help. I am talking about an older unit but don't understand why the new one has no improvement in this area.

The suction on the Little Green Proheat is not great--even on my older unit I have wanted better suction power. I was using the turbo brush on a tightly woven garage carpet and could not understand why it just was not sucking up the dirty water. When I finally gave up on the job and took the machine to the kitchen sink to clean it up I discovered the turbo brush water intake area was clogged with dog hair even though I had thoroughly vaccuumed the area before using the Proheat. This is not a problem experienced with my older unit but then it doesn't have a turbo brush and the intake area of dirty water on the regular brush seems to have a larger opening. I guess I should have resumed the suctioning once I discovered the dog hair but by that time I was done with this whole thing and proceeded to empty the containers and clean the unit.

Cleaning the Proheat is no easy chore. A great improvement would be a completely detachable hose. Be sure that the hose end is hanging in your sink or you will have dirty water on the floor, countertop and maybe on you. I looked into the hose and saw clumps of wet dog hair so I ran water into the hose to see if I could flush it out. That worked but it also flushed out a lot of yucky stuff into the area formerly occupied by the bottom of the dirty water tank so that created another mess. There is also an area where I could see more guck but couldn't reach it--kept probing with my fingers and wishing this machine came apart and could be properly cleaned out since once the guck dries it might really be stuck in there. Many water flushings later I think I got most or all of clumped dog hair and guck out--not easy to lift the machine and shake it upside down over the sink. No matter how many paper towels I used, I could not get all the remaining sand out of the area where the base of the dirty water tank sits. After it dried overnight I was able to vaccuum up the remaining sand with another machine. More time was spent on cleaning the Proheat than using it.

Although this machine looks "cool" and it is nice to see the water levels in the tanks, you cannot stand those bottles up when they have liquid in them. This is minor but I had an occasion where I wanted to set the container down and didn't have it capped yet and that is not possible (phone rings at the worse times).

I expected Bissell to have made a much better product and I don't think there's much else currently on the market for quick spot cleaning of home carpets or car interiors. The idea of this machine is great--a useful product for many people but this machine needs better design, more suction power, perhaps real "steam", detachable hose, improved tool to hose connection and easier to clean would be on my want list.

Until improvements are made I will use my older model and take this new one back to the store.

1-0 out of 5 stars Flawed Sprayer
The Little Green Machine worked well unitl the sprayer quit. This was disappointing considering we had only used it a handful of times. I agree with the reviewer that suggested a recall. It's a shame to have wasted the $.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bissell Should Issue a Recall
I've never written a poor review on a product before, but after reading the some of the other reviews, it appears that Bissell has a flawed sprayer and should consider issuing a recall.

My sister purchased a Bissell Little Green for herself, used it once and thought it was great so she bought one for me. She then went to use it again and the sprayer didn't work so she called Bissell. Bissell gave her the name of a repair shop she had to deliver the machine to (which was 17 miles from her home). The shop had to send the machine back to Bissell. Six weeks later she received a call from the repair shop that it was in, so she had to drive back to the store to pick it up. Don't you think Bissell could have sent it to her?

My Bissell also worked only once before the sprayer clogged, and I've tried to clean it myself but nothing yet has worked. I can't locate the gift receipt, so I won't be able to send it back in for repair.

Bottom line: Beware

2-0 out of 5 stars Worked well; briefly
I have thought that somehow I did something to mess up the machine but after reading the reviews I realized it wasn't the user it was the machine. I have two cats and a dog so there are going to be some major messes to clean up. My sprayer quit working; I've tried soaking it in hot water and vinegar and could not get it to open up. When I turn it on it has a strong smell of urine (mainly what it cleans up) eventhough I have cleaned the tank and the dirty water tank leaks. I would like to get another cleaner so if anyone can recommend another please do. Don't waste your money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bissell is the Best
I have wall to wall carpets and 7 cats, who occasionally cough up hairballs, which for anyone who has cats will know, that can be somewhat messy. This is by far the best cleaning machine for carpets I have found. Much better than lugging out the big wet/dry vac for small spots. Thank you, Bissell. Job well done.

5-0 out of 5 stars Little Green ProHeat + Puppy = Woo Hoo!
OK So I bought this little baby before we got our puppy. I had bought it for the 2 cats that we have and thought it might come in handy for little messes.

My wife bought me a puppy for Christmas, and since then I wll say that I thank myself every day for deciding to buy the Little Green. I have used it almost every day since our puppy arrived, and it works great! Takes out every stain that the little girl can throw at it (at trust me she has thrown a lot!). I wouldn't reccomend it for large surface area cleaning since it would take for ever and there would be a lot of work constantly filling the clean side and dumping the dirty side. But for those little messes, it works like a champ. Haven't had any problems or leaks, but I have only had this for a little over a month. So far it has been well worth what I paid!

4-0 out of 5 stars This Little Steam Cleaner Really Works
With four dogs and 4 cats we needed something to keep our couch and area rugs looking nice. I was really suprised at how well this product worked! The colors in our couch look "new" again (with the build up of kitty hair-it had a look to it as if you were viewing it with a soft focus lens). It also did a respectible job on our area rugs. Considering the cost of this cleaner, I would say that it is an awesome buy for small cleaning jobs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Little Green Machine
I've used other portable steamers in the past, and the Bissell Little Green Proheat is definately the best one I've purchased. I only wished I would have got one of these a couple of years ago. With three dogs and three cats this steamer gets used a lot.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for upholstery I don't particularly like it for Carpet
My partner bought this for our office. We have area rugs over hardwood floors so we didn't need anything very big.

Her husband used it to clean the upholstry in his car and was quite enthusiastic. I used it on an area rug and thought it was only so-so. With no brush action it definitely doesn't deep clean, and while the heated water can be useful you have to be careful because hot water will set some organic stains.

The hose is only 5 1/2 feet long so expect to get on your knees for the carpet stains.

With those caveats, it does what it says, but I would be tempted to pay a little more and get the turbo brush model. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The perfect solution to pet "spills"
We bought this steam cleaner because we needed something that we could quickly pull out to clean our carpet after dog accidents. It has been wonderful. I am so impressed with the cleaning abilities on this little machine. While it may not be the best choice if you want to do your entire house, it is perfect to keep in the closet and pull out at a moment's notice for spills. It is amazing to see how dirty the water is when I go to dump it out. I also found that if you run the Bissel over the cleaned spot until no more water is pulled out, the carpet will dry very quickly afterwards.

A must have if you are like us and have an old dog who is having some problems remembering where he is supposed to do his business. My anxiety about my carpets has been completely relieved with this machine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprising Results for Such a Cheap Appliance!
I am new to do-it-yourself carpet cleaning and have always paid someone else to come and do it for me. But I recently bought my son a dog for his birthday (to add to our collection of 3 rabbits, 1 chinchilla, 1 hamster, 4 degus, 2 fish and a toddler) and we live in an apartment next to a river - this means lots of MUD and PET and FOOD messes on my carpet. Plus my son has allergies - dust mite. I bought this machine because I wanted to be able to clean my carpets whenever I want - not wait for an appointment and pay around $80 / cleaning! (And the carpet guys didn't even move my furniture for me!) Plus, when having every room cleaned at once, where am I supposed to move my furniture anyway? So I thought I'd try this and I LOVE it. My carpet is SO clean - it got old spots out and you should have seen the dirty water tank - YUCK! Totally easy to setup and use - I am cleaning the carpets every week now. (Seriously) It's almost fun! I recommend the Bissel carpet detergent in the green bottle - the allergy stuff with Scotchguard. It works great and smells nice, without being too strong. Strong smells are bad for people with allergies. They even give you a free bottle to try in the box with the machine. How nice. Now I sound like I work for Bissel - which I don't - but I am just so happy that for once, I got MORE than I paid for. Thank you, Bissel. I am so happy with my purchase - I am going to tell everybody I know about this.

1-0 out of 5 stars Works well at first but does not last
I have had it for over 2 years and it did work fine. I used it twice in those years and then went to use it again and guess what the pump was not pushing the water through anymore. Now I understand why it was one of the cheapest.
Olena

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic for small jobs
I have owned a Bissell Quicksteamer for over a year, and I am extremely pleased with it. This is the ideal machine for small jobs around the house. Do your pets have occasional "accidents"? Do your kids spill and drip? If so, you will lower your blood pressure substantially by owning one of these.

This machine is extremely easy to fill, empty, and clean. It's quite compact too, so it's easy to carry it to where you need it and to store it when you're done. The QuickSteamer does quite a good job of sucking back up what it sprays into your carpet, which is the real test of a carpet cleaner. It's easy to spray stuff into the carpet; not so easy to suck it back up. The carpet is usually only slightly damp to the touch immediately after cleaning it with the QuickSteamer, and is usually dry in just a few hours. Although the QuickSteamer lacks a moving brush, I find this is not much of an issue. The fixed brush does a reasonable job of scrubbing the carpet and allowing the cleaning solution to reach into the carpet.

On the down side, the machine is a bit loud, with a very shrill high pitch. Animals and small children will flee when they see you are about to turn it on. Also, it does not do well with carpets that have a lot of dust and hair. Ideally, you should vacuum that kind of stuff before using the QuickSteamer. I find I can easily clean a carpet of 20 to 30 square feet (say a 4-foot by 6-foot rug) with the QuickSteamer, however, it starts to feel a bit onerous on a larger area, such as an 8-foot by 10-foot rug. It's really not designed for such a task, so if that's your need, then you should probably consider purchasing a larger machine.

I can honestly say that the QuickSteamer does about as good a job as the big heavy machines I have rented. The lot of them, the QuickSteamer and all the rented machines, have all succeed in removing a shocking amount of gunk from even seemingly clean carpets. The QuickSteamer did manage to get out a stain that a large rented machine left behind, however. All things considered, I think the QuickSteamer is an outstanding machine. It's well worth the modest price.

Equipped with system for monitoring work speed and a heater forboosting performance, this upright machine deep-cleans carpets and rugsby forcing a warm solution of water and cleansing concentrate intofibers and vacuuming up the dirty solution. The 1440-watt machine alsoscrubs bare floors (but not hardwood floors) and cleans stairs, upholstery, auto interiors, and even mattresses with onboard tools thatspray dirty surfaces and crevices with the cleaning solution. A poweredhand-tool that either brushes or vacuums at the flick of a switchaccompanies the machine and attaches to a flexible accessories hose. The heater's advantage over ordinary machines is that it increases thecleaning solution's temperature (up to but not exceeding 180 degrees F)and prevents the solution from cooling. The electronic monitor displayslights showing whether the machine is going back and forth too fast foroptimum performance. This model also has an applicator for spraying 3MScotchgard dirt-and-stain protector (8 ounces included) onto a carpet. Here's how the machine works: A plastic bottle for filling withBissell's Fiber Cleansing Formula (16 ounces included) fits into thebase. A removable 1-gallon tank contains a bladder to hold clean waterfor mixing with the cleansing concentrate. (Dirty water vacuumed by themachine collects around the bladder.) A dial offers three settings forvarious tasks: normal, high traffic, and water rinse/carpet protector.A trigger on the machine's handle applies solution as desired. Aflow-indicator spins when solution is applied and stops if the tankneeds refilling. There's a switch for applying solution through thetools: tough-stain brush, upholstery tool, bare-floor head, crevicetool, pretreat wand. (The machine does not heat solution for tools.)The machine's 12-inch floating brush-roll automatically adjusts forcarpet heights. Safe for virtually all carpets and upholstery fabrics, the deep-cleaning method can be turned off for dry-vacuuming delicatewool and Oriental rugs. 5-0 out of 5 stars This carpet cleaner works miracles
I normally don't enter reviews for products I have purchased, but after using this machine I had to respond. My carpets have been professionally cleaned for years, but this has become quite expensive. I decided to try the cleaning myself, and after careful investigation I decided the Bissell machine was the one I would try. And wow did it work! My husband couldn't believe how clean the carpets have become. And with the convenience of having this in my own home, I can clean any time I want. I would recommend this product to anyone!

2-0 out of 5 stars I have had two of these and they both broke!
I really like this product when it works. But, I have had multiple problems with both of the units I have bought. The sprayer has stopped permanently at least twice necessitating professional repair that was slow and costly, and I have had other problems as well which completely disabled the machine.

I have three little dogs, and we heat with wood which brings wood for the woodstove in over the carpet. I have an excellent cyclonic hepa-filter vacuum cleaner, but I also need a WORKING steam cleaner for my carpets, as well, and not one which is in the shop all the time.

I have tried two of these Pro-heats, and the next one I buy will be the Hoover model. I have read the reviews on that one, and there are complaints about quality for that product, as well, but I am still going to give it a try.

I am THROUGH with the Bissel even though it was easy to set up and use and did quite a good job. It is just too unreliable. Bissel needs to get their act together and do some serious quality control improvement on this machine!

4-0 out of 5 stars This ProHeat is alright...
I had previously owned a Proheat Carpet Cleaner (purchased it at Circuit City for $... when it was on demo clearance) It broke after about 10 uses. I tried to replace the motor but the replacement part was too expensive ($...), so I disposed the whole thing.

Recently, I just bought one at BestBuy for $... (opened box item) and also bought the 4 years extended warranty for $.... This machine is alright. It does what it promised. The complaints I have is that it doesn't have the option to turn off the suction and let the brush brushes a while so it clean more effectly. The soap and water must be replaced too often even just for small area. Also, the whole unit is all plastic and it's brittle. The last unit I owned was broke at the foot lever (tilt release).

I did not have a chance to compare this to other brand such as Hoover. I only bought this based on the decent price opportunity. Overall, I like this machine although I think Bissel could improve more. I wouldn't have any complaint if the price is $..., otherwise, it is way overpriced.

3-0 out of 5 stars Flimsy - Don't move it like a vacuum.
The plastic parts don't hold up very well when it is loaded with water. The lock in the hinge was the first to break when I tried to tilt it with a full dirty water tank. Then the suction lip broke off when get caught at a corner. The internal hose connecting the motor and the dirty water tank broke the next. The 90 degree range of movement is a little too much for such a tiny section of hose.
It appears to me the designers of the steamvac do not use it much themselves. The upright vacuum format, while convenient, is not the best format for a steamvac that can be 50+ pounds when loaded.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good Idea ruined by cheap Plastic parts
The first time I used the machine it was GREAT. Then the splastic sprocket that rolls the roller brush broke. Under warranty, no problem. Drove 60 miles to have it fixed, picked it up the following week. Once again, it worked great for the next three uses. Then the same plastic part broke again. No longer under warranty. I think the people who are giving this machine good reviews haven't owned it long enough for the plastic to wear out. Bissell could have a great machine if they wouldn't use such cheap parts. They might find people are willing to pay the higher price for a dependable machine. ... Read more

If you have a white carpet you want to protect, the Little Green carpet cleaner should be stashed in your closet for emergency cleanups. This portable cleaner doesn’t replace regular carpet cleanings but is excellent for spot-cleaning carpets in the event of an accidental spill. The lightweight Little Green weighs only 13 pounds for easy traveling to rooms, staircases, or auto interiors to clean up a variety of messes, including pet stains, spilled food or drinks, and muddy footprints. In addition, the cleaner has a flexible vacuum hose and a long power cord that stretches to almost 15 feet long to provide ample reach along the stairs or in vehicles.

The Little Green’s stain-removing action is superior to store-bought chemical cleaners as it lifts the stain up with its suction before it sets in; other cleaners require you to rub the stain with a cloth and push it farther down into the carpet. The cleaner uses a combination of Bissell’s special deep cleaning formula and hot tap water to pre-treat stains. The solution tank is easy to remove and fill and slides back onto the unit with no problems. A wide and strong spray path spreads the cleaning formula over the stain and, after a little scrubbing with the stain brush tool (which fits on the end of the cleaner’s hose), the cleaner suctions up the stain and dries the carpet in one step. Dirty water collects in the back of the Little Green in another tank that is equally as easy to remove and rinse clean. This compact multipurpose cleaner is safe on most carpets and upholstery and stores easily in a closet or under a sink until it’s required for a spill. The Little Green comes with an 8-ounce sample of Bissell’s Little Green deep-cleaning formula and is covered by Bissell under a limited one-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars One dirty little sucker
We had a new puppy and needed some serious spot cleaning back up. I had used other Bissell machines in the past (you know, other puppies). This little machine does a great job of getting spots up and out. I sometimes use it in conjunction with spray on cleaners. However, this machine is difficult to keep clean. It has two chambers - one for fresh soapy water and one for dirty water. The dirty water chamber has a complicated flow system (it's the one on the right in the picture shown). Gunk gets trapped on the edges and tops of the dirty chamber and it doesn't rinse out easily. There's no way to take the bottom off and clean the inside of the machine. This means that you always have gunk in your machine - sometimes smelly gunk. My other complaint is that the nozzle for the spray wand is miniscule and when it clogs water isn't directed in a spray, it pools in a puddle. This model is the best I have found, but I think Bissell should make some improvements to the design. Oh yes, one more thing... I find that I can't unwind the hose without unplugging and winding the power cord. This means you're stuck juggling a dirty hose while winding the power cord.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love my little green!
This cleaner is wonderful for spot cleaning. I used to have one of the "original" models, and I am so happy with the improvements they've made over the years. This machine is so easy to fill/clean/etc. And..I've yet to have any trouble with leaks. Thanks Bissell!

3-0 out of 5 stars The Bissell 1400A was a disappointment !
I have wanted this little Green Machine for sometime now. But I failed to do my homework before I bought it. I really should have bought the Green Machine with the rotating turbobrush. I think it probably would do a better job for my needs. I have a problem with weak wrists so its hard to clean with it. I have cats and the hair on upholstery quickly plugs the suction cleaning tool. It also seemed to leave lots of water behind requiring longer drying time. The good points are this machine is light weight and good for little easy clean up jobs.

5-0 out of 5 stars the helper you've been looking for
We have mostly hardwood floors and ceramic tile with only a few rooms of carpet and area rugs. So the compact design was a great draw for me. The size is perfect! It is easy to carry around even when full with water. I purchased this based on reading the reviews and seeing it in action. Our cousin had new white carpet that their very large dog had an extremely loose stool on. I watched as The Little Green was loaded up with solution and water. I was thinking they had better get a professional over ASAP. It did take a little time as it was a large area and again white (not off white) carpet. Unbelievably, within minutes all appearance of the accident was gone along with the odor as the solution has a clean scent to it. We have an ill cat and I thought if it worked on that mess it should clean up anything our cat does. The day we brought it home, there was approximately a 3 x 3 area of a reddish (cat food coloring) stain on our light colored carpet. I set off to start the green machine and remembered that we didn't purchase solution. Surprise, nice of Bissell, they included a sample with the machine. :-) The mess cleaned up within minutes just as I had seen a few months earlier. Later that day, a friend stopped by and could not believe that the stain was gone. I am grateful to have it readily at hand!

5-0 out of 5 stars Works good, easy to use, easy cleanup
I had two reasons for buying this, we have two small children and a new puppy. I needed something for spot cleaning. I read lots of reviews for different machines and looked in the stores, this one seemed best for us.
It is easy to fill and easy to cleanup. Just suck up some clean water when you done, it cleans out the hose and dirty water chamber. It also says you can leave cleaning solution in the machine while storing, which is nice for quick cleanup of spills. I liked the small cleaning head with the brush for small spaces and the car.
I have used mine quite a few times and have no complaints. It is much easier to use and doesn't make a mess like the professional cleaner we rented. Also, the chambers are clear, which makes it easy to see the amount of cleaning solution and dirty water. ... Read more

In a house with plenty of light-colored carpet, pets, or a combination of the two, there are enough messes where it pays to own your own steamcleaner. Deep cleaning is meant as an additional step to vacuuming as it shoots warm water deep into carpet fibers to loosen and remove dirt and grit that even daily vacuuming can’t reach.

Bissell’s ProHeat cleaner has a DirtLifter Powerbrush with six rows of brushes for lifting out embedded dirt particles and utilizes its 12 amps of strong suction to pull them in. The built-in heater keeps tap water 25 percent hotter than most steam cleaners do and distributes a mixture of warm water and cleaning solution into carpets to provide the most effective cleaning. Completely safe on stain-resistant carpets, the ProHeat can apply a Scotchgard protector formula during cleaning to reduce the amount of wear on the stain-resistant coating.

Besides carpeting, this cleaner can be used on home and automobile upholstery and has a 9-foot hose to reach into tight spaces. The ProHeat has a wide, 12-inch path and its onboard accessories include a spraying crevice tool, a tough stain tool, a Scotchgard applicator, a cartridge, and a TurboBrush. 3-0 out of 5 stars Cleans great, but breaks down frequently.
I love how well this machine cleans. We have two dogs and three cats and the Bissell gets the carpets spotless, but the water pumpt breaks down every six months or so. Other people have said the same thing.

5-0 out of 5 stars In love with a carpet cleaner?
The idea of a self-propelled carpet cleaner made me laugh at first, but now that I have one I am amazed that I got by so long without just makes the job of cleaning your carpet such a breeze.

I have a lot of animals in my house, and when I clean the carpets, I really need to clean the carpets. This cleaner will pull probably about 90% of the grime in the carpet (it doesn't look like it should have that much dirt in it...) out on the first pass over it. This is one of those few products out there that really works like the commercials show it does as long as you follow the directions:

You need to make sure that heater is finished heating the water before you begin or you'll just be making a mess until it is hot enough to actually do some cleaning--this is probably the number one complaint I hear about this cleaner and its because they are not waiting for the heating to finish. The next things that people always do wrong is the the settings need to be switched back to the Water Only setting while the machine is not in use or the soap lines will clog up. As long as you store the cleaner properly it works like a dream (or a commercial) everytime no matter how bad the mess is.

Also, for anyone who has long-haired pets: this cleaner will clean up the giant clumps of wet hair tangled in the carpet with no problems at all. The biggest drawback is that the self-propel feature is kind of worthless is tight spaces because you have to have quite a bit of room to swing the cleaner around and get all the angles. You won't be able to run this around the furniture--you'll actually have to move the furniture out of the way if you want to do a decent job cleaning.

1-0 out of 5 stars Leaking Tank ALSO!!!!
The water bladder tank leaked and the brush assembly hopped. I called Bissell, they apologized and sent out another tank. The second tank arrived 10 days later, it leaked also; so I returned the cleaner where I purchased it.

The dual tank seemed a good idea until I used it. I was dumping a lot of clean hot water down the drain. It was nearly impossible to get the carpet shed/fuzz out of the tank because you cannot remove the clean water bladder. I also was not fond of the idea that the brushes did not rotate without the suction. Some spots need to be scrubbed more than others and I found that I used more cleaning solution and water than was necessary because I could not just brush the area without removing the cleaning solution.

Extremely frustrating. I am searching for a cleaner without belts and separate tanks.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easier to use then I thought it would be
This is an incrediable cleaner! We moved into a house with 5 year old carpet that had never been cleaned and I decided to try this instead of renting a system (it ended costing about the same!) I pulled up tons of dirt, but also big dust balls! I love the light water tank and found the whole unit even lighter to move around them my vacumm cleaner! The hand tools though didnt impress me much, as they didnt seem to have a very strong vacumm on it and left my stairs wetter then I would have liked. But otherwise, its a great unit and a great buy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Cleans well, but problems.
I first bought a Bissell Proheat about four years ago. Except for initally the tank washer being missing, I loved it. I loved the way it cleaned and with pets I used it all the time. When it finally started to have problems after just tons of use,I really felt I had gotten my money's worth and looked forward to getting a newer model of the same.

BUT, I brought a brand new Bissell Proheat home and assembled it,and the tank leaked. It said on the box not to return it to the store, but I certainly didn't want to keep something brand new that was defective. Anyway, I took it back to the store and they kindly (Wal-Mart)exchanged it. I immediately checked the tank on the new machine before going to the trouble of assembling the whole thing and again the tank is leaking. It leaks around the footplate that is held on at the bottom of the tank with three screws.

I am really frustrated as I loved the way this machine cleaned but am getting tired of returning it. Surely Bissell can make a tank that doesn't leak. With elderly pets who have accidents,I need something NOW, so will probably look at another make of cleaner. Have I just been unlucky, or has this been a problem with these machines? ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the small stuff
We bought this the day after we brought a new puppy home and it paid for itself within a week. The battery issue: you get about 10-15 solid minutes before needing to recharge. We've owned it for 7 months now, using it for small stuff, and we've only run out of juice once while cleaning a spill that covered a 1' X 12' area. HOWEVER, I cannot stress how much work this thing has saved us. It has removed difficult stains within minutes: tea spills, orange food coloring stain left behind from a dog treats, puppy accidents... What it comes down to: you get what you pay for. This is an effective, small carpet cleaner perfect for the small stuff. If you need to clean larger areas, then you need a larger unit. The spilling issue another reviewer called dangerous: if you turn the unit on it's nose, and/or the unit's dirty water reservoir is full (or past full), dirty fluid will come back out the way it came in. This can be solved by, well, not turning the unit on its nose and emptying the unit everytime you go to refill the clean reservoir. The only time I experienced spillage was when I filled and used it 3 or 4 times before emptying the dirty reservoir. The fact is, if they put a larger dirty water reservoir, the thing would just get too heavy and pretty much defeat the whole purpose of being a light-weight, spot cleaner. 4 stars given for the lack of A/C adapter power option.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty powerful little machine
Charge doesn't last very long, which is ok since I only pull it out for spot cleaning (usually due to my dog having one of his can't hold down the food episodes). With one or two exceptions, it has been able to completely remove the stain before the battery died (even if the stain has been there a few weeks).

My major beef is that I lost the power cord and, apparently, the only place I can get a replacement is through Bissell. Once the shipping is added, I can put a few more dollars in and buy a brand new machine (which I'll probably wind up doing through Amazon).

3-0 out of 5 stars Not great for pets
The only thing we have used this for is to clean up "accidents" our small Toy Poodle has had. It seems to work ok, the suction could be a bit more powerful, but it is difficult to keep clean.

1-0 out of 5 stars unsafe battery
The nickle-cadium rechargeable battery pack wennt out with-in the first month of purchase. that's why I got on line to see if i could purchase another for a reasonable price. NO REPLACEABLE BATTERY PACK I guess i'm stuck for $29.99 plus tax the dealer won't do anything after 30 days.****CRAIG*****

4-0 out of 5 stars Glad to own it
My mom bought this for me as a gift and thought it would be useful since I have small, growing children and I'm glad to have received it. It really does the job it was intended to do and I'm really glad the cleaner you use with this unit is readily available at my local Walmart store. The only downside is the battery life doesn't last long so this unit is really only useful for small spots or spills. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but quality issues
I have owned a similar Bissell steamer for 5 years. It definately makes the carpet cleaner, but takes a long time to clean a room. I usually have to refill the clean water tank about 4 times to do a 12x12 room. I had to return the first one I bought because it leaked water. The new replacement has worked fine, but as another person mentioned the plastic housing has broken in places where screws hold it together. I only use it a couple of times a year, so mine may have held up better than some that get used more often. Overall, it still saves money over renting a steamer, but there are probably better ones if you're going to buy one.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good machine for the money
I bought this machine when my children were small to clean up the spills that all toddlers make. It did the job well. I have noticed that some of the others reviews mentioned that it did not pick up dog hair and other similar objects well. A carpet cleaner is not supposed to pick up things like that. That is what a vacuum is for. All steamers will tell you in the instructions to vacuum thoroughly before cleaning. This means to vacuum your carpet even more thoroughly than you would on a regular basis. After reading these other reviews I don't think that most people read the instructions that come with the machine.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this!
With three young children and dogs, my carpets need cleaning often. I wish I had read these reviews before buying this Bissell. What a piece of junk! It is large and cumbersome and when the unit is turned off, it leaks yucky water all over the floor. After using the unit a couple of times, the soap dispenser began leaking large puddles of soap concentrate onto the carpet so I started using plain hot water. That wasn't so bad. The attachments were cumbersome, getting in my way constantly and very annoying when I just wanted to get a couple of spots up. I did use the attachment for upholstery cleaning once. It broke. The tank is too small and needs to be emptied often. The final straw was when using it the other day, I smelled burning and the engine made a very loud noise. Luckily, it was garbage day so I rolled it to the end of the driveway and saw the last of that horrible monster. I cringe when I think of how much money I wasted on this piece of junk and will never buy a Bissell product again!

1-0 out of 5 stars BAD PRODUCT-DON'T BUY
This carpet cleaner worked great the first few times I used it to clean our carpets. Pretty soon the soap and water didn't mix together and the machine was just spraying water on my floor. The machine still doesn't work. I called Bissell and the representative directed me to look at a couple items on the machine to make sure they were working right. He told me he would call me back to see if after checking these items out, my machine was working better. The items he directed me to look at were fine and no one ever called back. I feel like I am out a bunch of cash and stuck with a defective product. After reading other reviews I believe that I don't just have a defective product, but a poorly manufactured product. SAVE YOUR MONEY!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not so good
It worked REALLY well for about the 1rst 2 months. I use it a lot, I have 3 dogs & a baby. It does not suck up like it used to, and that is the whole point!!!! It leaves the floor wet, and I can't keep everyone off of it for 2 days to dry. This is my second one, too, and it is doing the exact same thing. ... Read more

The twin dustpans empty easily with a simple push from underneath, and a clip-on comb helps keep the brush roll clean. Made of durable steel with a thick rubber bumper, the sweeper is long lasting and kind to floors and furniture. The construction is straightforward, easy to use, and lightweight in action. Standing 43-1/4 inches high, the sweeper measures 10-1/2 by 9-1/2 inches at the base and carries a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

For easily removing oil and dye-based stains, this cleaning solution features a dual-chamber system with separately held formulas that when combined have powerful stain-removing capabilities. This aerosol oxygen-activated carpet spot and stain remover permanently gets out red wine, cola, fruit juice, Kool-Aid, coffee, gravy, lipstick, ink, motor oil, and more. It can also be used on outdoor carpet, trash cans, boat carpet, siding, plastic patio furniture and cushions, and concrete. The cleaning solution has a clean, fresh scent and is easy to use. Simply shake the container, spray in circular pattern completely covering the spot or stain, let sit for three to five minutes, then blot the spot or stain with a clean, dry cloth. There's no need for scrubbing, but for tough, set-in stains, these steps may need to be repeated. Included in the cleaning kit are three OxyKic sets, six cloths, and one caddy.--Catie Unger ... Bissell's 499 Little Green Compact Multipurpose Cleaner cleans really deep and fast. It is very effective and smells good. Our dog likes it too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Smells Like Heaven....
This is amazing cleaning solution. It works wonders on tought stains. It smells wonderful. I use this solution with my Hoover Steamvac and with my Little Green Clean Machine. Anytime someone comes over, they remark on that wonderfully refreshing scent that pervades my home. Not only does it smell good, it cleans amazingly.

With the help of my machines, this solution lifts out tough grime with a cinch. Small stains dissapear instantly and it leaves the carpet soft and fluffy to the touch. This is a great solution, and it is pretty much the best one out there. Don't settle for less than the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than warm water
I have a white carpet that cleans with warm water. Unfortunately what looks clean does not have that just laid look and feel that this product brings to life. It is easy to handle and dispense. Having a dial for the concentration on the Bissell one can place concentrates where needed. So this bottle can last for the entire house in most cases

With the Power Steamer upright deep cleaner, Bissell slims down the usual steam-cleaner bulk and adds onboard tools forabove-floor cleaning. Made for use with hot tap water, the unit features a tank-in-tank design. The single tank casing, fitted with an internal water receptacle, holds both dirty and clean water at once. As the clean water empties from the receptacle, the machine sucks up dirty water into the outer tank. The tank features a carrying handle that locks it into place and a built-in washable lint filter. On average, a single tank will clean a 10-by-12-foot room. The cleaner's floor nozzle features a 12-inch cleaning path and automatically self-adjusts for changes in carpet height. The rotating DirtLifter brush agitates dirt out of floors and gently grooms carpet. A selection dial lets you switch from floor cleaning to tool use or pretreatment, and a transparent front panel shows the solution as it is sucked out of the carpet. In spite of its lean profile, the cleaner comes with several welcome details, including automatic full-tank shutoff, quick-release power-cord hooks, durable wheels, an ergonomic handle, and a fingertip solution trigger. The onboard cleaning tool has its own trigger, a tough stain brush, and a long-reaching flexible hose. The cleaner comes with an onboard measuring cup and two 16-ounce bottles of Bissell cleaning solution for tough stains and carpets. Bissell also includes a full one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Bother
This cleaner never did a good job. Didn't suck up hardly any water that it put out, the attachments are a laugh. Your better off buying the low end Dirt Devil. Bissell does make good vacuums though.

3-0 out of 5 stars REVIEW UPDATE
I found this cleaner did a nice job on my oriental rug. It cleaned so well that the wonderful colors in my rug have come back. The machine seems well built but it is somewhat heavy to push and the water tank-in-tank is very small making it neccesary to dump and refill much too often. I find that I really should have done more research and shopped around more before making this expensive purchase. Live and learn..... ... Read more
