Amazon.com Review

It’s a hassle to break out the gigantic electric food processor to grind just a few tablespoons of food. That’s when Zyliss’s manual food processor is the tool to reach for. This tabletop grater/shredder/slicer comes with three interchangeable 18/10 stainless-steel drums of varying textures to grate smaller quantities of food. The fine drum is excellent for grating a bit of Parmesan cheese to top pasta with marinara sauce, chocolate to garnish a cake, or peanuts to finish off a plate of Phad Thai noodles. The coarse grating drum shreds squash, carrots, or beets for a salad while the slicing drum preps wider discs of these vegetables for further cooking. The tabletop grater has a non-skid rubber bottom and counter clip to keep it firmly mounted on a work surface and a plastic food guide to push food through. The drums are dishwasher-safe and the unit itself wipes clean by hand. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Does everything the big boys do and no power required!
I bought this grater when I had an old food processor when all the attachments were broken and I needed finely chopped or grated nuts for my sweets. It is very easy and comfortable to use, thanks to the suction foot that is surprisingly strong for the small size. You just position the grater on a clean surface and turn the lever to block it, then you can choose the drum you need and place it in the grater, screw the handle on and get grating!
There are three drums in the package: slicing, fine grating and coarse grating. You can slice cucumbers for a salad or zucchini for a quiche or anything you want. Or you can finely grate hard cheese like Parmesan, chocolate or nuts: I have used it a number of times for these tasks and I am really satisfied, nuts fine as snow and fluffy Parmesan; you will not touch the chocolate so it doesn't melt on your hands while you are grating. Or maybe you feel like zucchini cheddar waffles and you can coarsely grate both in no time.

The clean up is really easy and quick, but I don't know whether the grater is dishwasher safe, so I always do it by hand.
I find this gadget is really useful for small quantities, when you don't feel like washing all the food processor attachments. The quality is very good and you can rely on years of faithful service. It doesn't even take up too much space in the cupboard, well done Zyliss!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little gadget
Being a bachelor (again), I didn't need the huge food processor that I used to have. Still, I like to cook. Then for Christmas my parents gave me this handy little thing. The Zyliss Mini Food Processor is a convenient and, above all, efficient compact processor that I use just about every other day. It's easy to clean and, so far, pretty durable. It's one of the better products of its type that I have used. ... Read more

This large garlic press quickly squeezes out up to three cloves of garlic at a time or one clove of elephant garlic for making pesto or homemade broth and doesn’t even require you to peel the cloves. The plunger is designed to press out the maximum amount of garlic and juice so little goes to waste and to prevent peelings from slipping through the press. The ergonomically designed handle provides better leverage during pressing and more comfortable squeezing. This garlic press comes with a cleaning tool with prongs for cleaning out the holes and a flat end for scooping out peelings. The press is dishwasher-safe and is covered by Zyliss under a five-year warranty from the date of purchase. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Just another garlic press that does not work
Does not work because the holes are too small. I tried to press one pealed garlic and I used all my strengh still no crushed garlic came out of it. I asked for my husband's help and he almost broke it because he was pressing it so hard. This time just a meager amound of garlic came out of it most of it stayed jamed inside the press.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use and clean
Using a Garlic Press is a great way to partake in teh pleasures of Garlic, but the cleaning of these things is the downfall. The cleaning device that accompanies this press makes the cleaning almost a breeze.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best garlic press available
I've used many a garlic press in my culinary career and most of them were terrible. This one is sensational (if such a thing can be said about such a humble implement). Easy to use and clean, it produces maximum garlic output even from unpeeled cloves. I'm buying a new one because the cleaning tool fell into the clutches -- jaws, actually -- of the puppy and perished. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Nothing beats a mandoline for cutting uniform slices and strips of fruits and vegetables--and this model places your safety first and foremost. The base has a built-in stainless-steel V-shaped blade with a safety button that locks in any of the six included blades, ensuring that they can never accidentally move out of place. The food holder has an ergonomically designed handle that allows the full range of slicing motion and provides a stable grip. The food holder safely slides up and down on the mandoline’s unique grooved rail, which keeps the motion controlled and on track. For thicker chunks of fruits or veggies, the holder can even be lifted and angled to one side while still gripping the track. Food stays secured with the food guide, which pushes food through the holder and grips it with its sharp teeth.

The mandoline comes with six different blades that perform a variety of slicing functions. A 1/8-inch julienne insert is ideal for grating shoestring potatoes or carrots while a wider 1/4-inch julienne blade makes strips of zucchini or beets for steaming. The four slicing inserts offer different sizes--1/32-inch, 1/16-inch, 1/8-inch, 1/4-inch--to accommodate the widths of the foods you’re slicing but can all be adjusted to paper thin or chunky thicknesses. The 1/4-inch blade also serves as a safety insert to keep the blade from damage during storage. A storage caddy holds all blades and also acts as a drying rack after washing. The mandoline has non-skid feet to securely hold the base during slicing and an indent on the base so it can be used over a bowl. All parts are dishwasher-safe in the top rack and the entire product is covered by Zyliss under a 5-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars cheaper original v-slicer is better
when my v-slicer dulled after nearly 10 years of lots of use and abuse, i decided to upgrade to this zyliss. big mistake! the guard rail is difficult to use, and i can't get the uniform slices i used to with my v-slicer. plus it is bulkier and harder to store than the v-slicer. so this is going back and i'm getting a v-slicer for half the price, but more than twice the results!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hooked on Zyliss
I have wanted a mandoline for years and finally recently bought the Zyliss safety-rail guided unit. I love it! It slices uniformly and easily. Ive never used one before and it was super simple, and super safe. If you want a product that will help cut prep time this is it. Ive read a review where the person had trouble with uniform slicing...no problem with mine. I cut through a green pepper and onion so fast I grabbed a zuchinni just so I could have something else to cut lol.

1-0 out of 5 stars Less than thrilled
I bought this mandoline to replace a ten-year-old Boerner V-slicer which I though was getting a little dull and now I'm glad I didn't throw the old one away. I use a mandoline to get consistently thin, thin slices, and the Zyliss doesn't get the job done. Cutting with the .75-mm insert yields slices that vary between paper-thin and 1/16 of an inch thick -- a very long way from .75mm. I suspect the plastic used in the frame and insert is just too flexible or too poorly supported to provide thin slices every time.

In addition the rail-guide system is cumbersome and makes it very difficult to position food for slicing.

In short, for me, this product was a waste of money and the only product I've ever ordered from Amazon that I wish I could send back.

Buy a Boerner V-slicer instead: its a better slicer and it costs...less! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Zyliss, the Swiss maker of quality kitchen accessories, has ingeniously redesigned the chopper with ease of use in mind. Ingredients placed in the clear plastic receptacle at the bottom are chopped by depressing the plunger at the top--the more frequently the plunger is depressed, the finer the food will be chopped. Its stainless-steel blade automatically rotates so that the contents are chopped evenly, while the plastic container can be removed and covered with its own air-tight lid to keep minced ingredients fresh before usage. Clean this kitchen gem immediately after use by simply twisting off the lower part of the device and rinsing the blade under running water. --Pamela Zytnicki ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars More Work than it is Worth
I was so excited to buy this product and prevent my eyes from tearing when chopping onions.

However, I found the product not to be that useful. The width often does not fit my onions, the blades are not that sharp to cut through the layers of onions (don't even bother to try it on basil), and it is sooooo hard to clean. How do you get bits of onion off the blades that are sharp and retract into the base of the Zyliss?

I recommend a knife or a mini-cuisinart instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for small amounts
There are just two of us and I only chop small amounts for cooking. This chopper is very easy to use (even with slightly arthritic fingers) and with the sealable lid, you can do things ahead of time and refrigerate until needed. Very easy to clean.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Before It Breaks
I loved this chopper for about the first year I had it. The clear plastic wring broke so I will try another brand now.

4-0 out of 5 stars A for utility, C+ for durability
This was my favorite kitchen gadget when I got it. I used it almost every day. It is terrific for chopping small quantities of things like onions, garlic, carrots, and celery. It doesn't work so well for soft or leafy things (like herbs). It's a little tricky to clean, but I found it more than worth the effort. Unfortunately, it broke after about a year and a half. I tried another brand which mashed (rather than chopped) and broke within 3 months.

Despite its fairly short life-span, I will probably buy another one. I found my first useful enough that it's worth replacing (even if I end up having to replace it every few years).

3-0 out of 5 stars But wait! There's more!
You know those commercials for the chopping gadget? Bang, bang, bang and you have mouth-watering something-or-other, right? Well I don't know how well those work, and given the price I'm inclined to think they barely do, but I can tell you that the Zyliss is kind of a disappointment.

The unit comes with the chopper, which is a zig-zag blade and a plunger handle with a spring. Press down and the blade goes down, let go and it retracts into the plastic barrel. A plastic cap fits over the blades so that when you chop, the plastic pushes bits of food off the blades as they retract. Pretty clever huh? The chopping is done in a little cup. And I mean little! It holds maybe half a cup of food. That's okay, I didn't figure to use this for big jobs, so I wasn't really worried about it. Chopped onion, tomato, olives, etc. for things like tacos were what I had in mind.

Unfortunately the Zyliss has blades that just aren't very sharp. It will chop tomatoes, or rather, turn them into tomato salsa, and it chops olives pretty well, but herbs just get mashed down into the bottom of the cup. Most jobs require opening the unit, fluffing the food and then chopping again. You get better chopping action when you remove the plastic blade guard, but then food migrates up into the body of the chopper and scraping it out should NOT be done with your fingers. A chopstick is good for this job.

On the whole, I'm kind of neutral about this item. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it but I wouldn't not recommend it either if you have jobs that require just a bit of chopping (or smushing) It's convenient and it does do the job. Just not as cleanly and quickly as I'd hoped. ... Read more
