Winner of the American Culinary Institute's Best of Show Awardfor Excellence, the Mill & Brew integrates two products into onespace-saving unit. The built-in coffee mill grinds up your whole beansto the desired fineness (chosen from seven settings) and then proceedsright into the brewing process, eliminating the mess of transferringgrounds and the countertop clutter of two large appliances. You can setthe system to make coffee immediately or program the LED clock/timer upto 24 hours in advance so you have fresh-brewed coffee ready firstthing in the morning. A stainless-steel carafe holds up to 10 cups offresh coffee and keeps it hot for hours. The mill has a permanentstainless-steel filter basket for beans, so purchasing paper coffeefilters is unnecessary. In addition, the Mill & Brew has a large waterindicator window for determining how many cups you're making and hiddencord storage for convenience. Safety features include drip stop, whichhalts the coffee flow while you remove the carafe during brewing, andautomatic shutoff after one hour. This coffeemaker is covered by aone-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great coffee!
I bought this for my husband for Father's Day and he hasn't had to buy a cup of coffee since! I am not a coffee drinker, but even I have enjoyed several cups. He says it makes an outstanding cup of coffee (presuming, of course, that you have bought good quality beans). It is really easy to use - we love the programming feature that allows the coffee to be ready when he gets up. The bean grinder may be too loud if you live in a small house, but I have only heard it once at 5 am. We have the model w/ the thermal carafe. The carafe keeps the coffee hot for about an hour, then starts to cool off. He actually pours it right into a thermos to take to work, so only needs the thermal carafe feature on weekends. I clean it for him every day, and it only takes minutes. My mother-in-law has the Cuisinart grind and brew model, and it is a real pain to clean - too many parts. The Melitta has one basket for grinding and brewing, so only one part for me to clean. The stainless steel carafe looks nice on the counter. We would highly recommend this coffee maker to anyone.
***** Update on 4/28/04: The latch on the top cover broke in the middle of the night last night and the coffee maker will not work unless it's latched. I called Salton (the company that services the coffee maker) and was told that if I get a free replacement cover (because it's still under warranty) that it would VOID my warranty. (So what is a warranty for, anyway?) I expressed my disbelief to the customer service rep who could have cared less. And, oh by the way, the part is back-ordered for 4-8 weeks. I called Melitta directly and got a very sympathetic listener who is sending us a different color top (FOR FREE!) and is going to investigate the ridiculous policy from Salton. In the meantime, alas, I am going out to buy another Mill and Brew because it makes such good coffee. This time we are going to treat the latch with extra caution.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works for me ...
Since my wife and I leave for work about an hour apart, a thermal carafe coffee maker seemed like the right choice when we needed to replace our old one. Even without the grind feature, the price of the Melitta Mill & Brew made this an easy choice. Being Type A, I had to take a few minutes and read the instructions, a good investment of about five minutes. Having used the Melitta for about two weeks I have found:

• The grinder is noisy (it IS a grinder). If the noise bothers you in the morning, use ground coffee and turn off the mill. I set it for five minutes after my alarm clock; no worries for me but the cats still freak out.
• The clock and brew settings are easy; as noted above, RTFM.
• The carafe pours just fine; align the mark on the lid with the spout and pour. And it keeps the coffee plenty hot for us. I leave an hour after my wife, and have no issues with the temperature.
• The stainless steel filter basket is excellent. I have not had any sediment and it is easy to clean; a sink sprayer makes this even easier.
• I have always had to experiment with any new coffee maker to determine the right coffee strength; one scoop of beans per cup works for me (grind level 4 or 5).

I'm no "coffee diva", but the Melitta Mill & Brew is a great value.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good buy!
At half of the cost of the nearest competitor (Cuisinart Grind and Brew), this is a great buy for the money. Initially I was conflicted by the reviews written here (especially about the coffee not being warm enough and the 'dribble pour', as I had experienced that when drinking from my friend's Cuisinart), but I decided to give it a shot. It's "thermal", people (addressed to the ones who say it's not warm enough). I run hot water into the pot at night, let it sit for a bit, then pour it out and place it; set my timer and in the morning, I have great-tasting, hot coffee. I use half-and-half, and it's still at a great drinkable temperature. As for the 'dribble', there is a dot on the plastic screw-on lid; line it up with the pour spout and you have a great pour .. then twist the cap back to close to keep the coffee warm. My coffee still steams even after being on the pot all day. Buy it; you'll love it! You'll love yourself even more when you think about all of the money you saved buying this one rather than the other!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Happy!!
I am delighted with my new Melitta. I am not sure what people were saying about leaks or dripping, this is actually a little tough to get coffee out of! I loved the old Melitta mill and brew but it would shut off after an hour with two little ones I would sometimes not even make it while it was still hot but now this keeps it hot for hours and is identical to the old melitta with same buttons and grind features. It is a little taller though so if you have lower cabinets it may not fit underneath. The only thing with the thermal mug is measuring the water. But you can accomplish this with the resevoir measuring. I agree with the other reviewers, as one who loves strong coffee I have to add one scoop more but that really has been the case with all other makers I have used! But the program, grind and thermos features all make this a great coffee maker and the price is great as well!!

5-0 out of 5 stars This coffee maker rules!
I've used other coffee/grinder machines with disappointing results. The Melitta does a great job. For the best tasting coffee, grinding fresh beans is a must. The Melitta takes out the extra messy chore of grinding the beans and transferring it to the coffee machine. The coffee comes out dark (7 grind setting) for you hardcore caffeine addicts and fast. Like other reviewers have mentioned, warm up the interior of carafe with some warm/hot water for hotter coffee. Clean up is a cinch -- make sure you do this asap so that you have a dry mill/brew basket for the next batch. The only thing that bugs me is the fact the carafe has no "feet" of some sort on the bottom which makes an awful metal scratching noise if you have tile counter tops. Otherwise I highly recommend this coffee maker. 5 stars! ... Read more

Perfect for preparing coffee at home before dashing out the door, this coffeemaker brews through the lids directly into either one or both of the 14-ounce travel mugs accompanying the machine. The stainless-steel mugs have rubber, nonslip grips, fit most vehicle cup holders, and are 6-3/4 inches high, with 2-5/8-inch-diameter rubber bottoms. Lids keep coffee hot in the mugs and are deeply indented and sloped toward the drink hole to contain spills. Both mugs and their lids are dishwasher-safe. The coffeemaker uses disposable paper filters (two included), automatically shuts off after the brewing process, and can also be used to heat water for tea, hot chocolate, and instant foods like oatmeal and soup. Made of gleaming black plastic, the coffeemaker measures 13 inches high, 5-1/4 inches wide, and 8-1/2 inches deep, and carries a three-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Too many coffee drinkers don't spoil the pot
We have 4 coffee drinkers who rise and set at different times. This little coffee maker fits the bill for a good hot unspoiled cup of coffee at any time (I'm not dumping stale pots down the drain much any more). You don't have to toss the regular coffee maker, it is still good on weekends, but when you want a cup at 12 midnight, and if someone else happens to want a brew as well, the decision is brainless. It uses readily available cone filters and makes a great tasting "big" cup.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yum!
Love this coffeemaker. It brews quickly and makes one or two wonderful cups (cups at 14 ounces each.....) I have actually unplugged my "big" and expensive coffeemaker. Have used this twice to three times a day and so far no problems. I am very picky about the taste of my coffee, want a flavorable coffeehouse brew and this little Two To Go unit delivers consistently. I like this so much I just ordered another unit for my son-in-law for his birthday!

Hopefully this little coffeemaker stands the test of time and holds up because I really like it! The cups hold the java at a warm temp for longer than I expected and have been very useful.

2-0 out of 5 stars Stick with a regular coffeemaker
I've tried this coffemaker a few times and I just don't like it; the coffee comes out weak and bitter-tasting. So then I said "well, I'll just use the travel mugs". The bad taste comes from the cups ... I take a great cup of coffee and pour it into the travel mug to go ... instantly bad-tasting. I've washed and re-washed the mugs to no avail.

1-0 out of 5 stars If you love coffee, don't buy this one!
This coffeemaker is compact and handy for making fresh single cups of coffee. However, I had one for about a year at work and it always added a very bad plastic taste to the coffee. I cleaned it several times and used my own mug, and the taste got a little better over time. But it still made the coffee "plastic". I finally got a basically free brewer from Gevalia and my coffee tastes great again.

1-0 out of 5 stars Complete Disaster
My brother introduced me to this coffeemaker and I liked it so much that decided to pick up one for myself. I set mine up, filled the reservoir for two cups and water immediately started gushing out of the base. Before I knew it half of the water was all over my counter. I hadn't even had a chance to plug it in and turn it on. In retrospect my snaillike pace at unwrapping the tie wrap from the cord probably saved me from being electrocuted. I'm sorry I ever deigned to cheat on my trusty low-tech french press. It's back to the middle ages for me. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Happy with Product
I received this urn as a wedding gift last year. I don't know if I received one off a previous and better assembly line, but mine works great! No leaking, no loose screws. I've even told my guests who have loved it where to buy one. And, I've always received compliments on the great coffee! That's disappointing that others have received such poorly made ones -- I love mine!

1-0 out of 5 stars Made in China!
I just finished reading these reviews when the wife returned home with this model. Figuring I'd give it a chance, I readied it for it's first outing. The flimsy construction was my first clue: it didn't seem to fit together well. Next came the leakage; I tightened the spout, base and handles. Next: off snapped the spout handle. With the help of a screwdriver as some scalding, just-brewed coffee poured down my hand, I was able to get it back on. The next night I fired it up again. 45 cups of hot, premium-ground coffee was in the pot. But not a drop wanted to come out of the spout. Why? Because the rubber washer in the spout melted shut, sealing in the coffee.
I wondered: to whom do I owe this experience: the Melitta engineer, who should have specified a "heat-resistant" washer for construction. Or the assemblers in China, who didn't bother to tighten the screws. Or the store that sold this worthless junk.
If there were a museum for shoddy kitchen equipment, I'd glady donate this masterpiece.

1-0 out of 5 stars Keep Looking
This product looks good but that's where it stops. I wish I would have looked up reviews on this product before I purchased it. We have gone through 2 machines in 3 months. First machine leaked from the handle and the spout, we even had problems getting the coffee to come out as the spout handle had a mind of its own. The second machine was fine for a while, then the handle started leaking as coffee brewed and the last straw was when the glass knob blew up as the coffee was perculating. What a mess. It is obvious that there is no QC at the factory. Walk away from this one, it is an accident waiting for a place to happen. I am just glad no one was in the kitchen at the time of the explosion.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievably Bad
The moment I received this urn I took it out of the box to see how well it worked. As the water reached the 25 cup mark the base started leaking in one spot. By the time I called customer service and got through to a representative, water was coming out around the entire product. It's amazing that this thing is on the market!

1-0 out of 5 stars Huge disappointment - Amazon.com shouldn't sell it
What a monumental piece of junk. The first time I used it, all the water ran out of the bottom of the pot! Obviously Melitta hadn't taken the time to test it, but thank goodness I did BEFORE my party.

Given the one other review which is also negative, Amazon.com should give some careful thought to not selling this product. Clearly Melitta has some manufacturing issues to address.

PS -- I ordered this pot about two weeks before the other negative review appeared. If I had seen that, I wouldn't have chosen this pot in the first place. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It really does brew fast.
We trusted the Melitta name and bought this "Fast Brew" model without the usual research about a year ago. It is not perfect but it works quite well for the price.
Pros: 1)It uses standard #6 paper cone filters. 2)The autocutoff allows you to steal a cup of coffee before brewing is complete. 3)The digital timer turns on the maker so you can wake up to already brewed coffee. 4) It brews coffee really quickly. 5) The design of the carafe is great (compared to my previous coffeemaker,... The lip is less likely to drip when pouring, the handle seems better balanced when you hold a full carafe and it has a clever plastic strip that protects your hand from the hot glass.
Cons: 1)The coffemaker will overflow when brewing if the carafe is not properly seated or if you allow grounds to get under the filter. Once you learn about each problem, with a bit of care you can prevent them from recurring. 2) You need to use a bit extra coffee to get the same strength of brew. This may be a tradeoff for getting such a fast brew. 3)Finally, the push button controls are hard to use. The labels are hard to read and the sequence of button presses to accomplish basic tasks (like setting the clock after a power interuption) are unnecessarily user-hostile.
Overall: Useful, attractive, functional, a good value ...

4-0 out of 5 stars Simpler is better!
I received a simplier version, Model MEFB1, for Christmas 2003 and I have only good to say about it. I have used it several times a day, most days, to make full pots of brew and have never had the slightest problem with it. In fact, I recommend it to all my guests, all of whom compliment the taste of the coffee and speed of the coffeemaker. Maybe prepare your coffee maker the night before and punch the "on" button when you get up. For goodness sakes, it only takes 8 minutes to brew all of 12 cups. Isn't that fast enough? Besides, a little early morning jog to the kitchen adds to the "healthful" benifits of the coffee. Incidentally, I experimented...I put exactly the same amount of the same temperature of cold water, in a copper-bottomed sauce pan on high on a gas range, at the same second as I punched the "on" button to the coffeemaker and the water in the sauce pan took exactly 13 minutes to reach 200 degrees. So count your blessings...the coffeemaker is fast! An added benefit, is that it can also be used to make great hot tea! When I get ready for a larger coffeemaker, it will definitely be a 45 cup Melitta urn, Model MEU45. Bon appetit!

1-0 out of 5 stars do not buy this product
We bought the coffeemaker six months ago. Several times the spring mechanism became stuck and coffee spilled all over the counter and floor. One day, it just quit working. I emailed customer service at Toastmaster who manufactures the product over two weeks ago to explain the situation. I've heard nothing from them. The coffeemaker is a piece of junk, and I wouldn't recommend buying anything the company makes.

2-0 out of 5 stars Did not last
I never used the coffee make to stop and get a cup, but I had problems with the feature early on. I would set the time and the spring would get stuck while the maker was brewing. This would cause the filter chamber to fill up and overflow leaving a big mess to clean up. I finally dismantled that option. I just got done throwing the unit out after it quit from two years of medium service. I had a Bunn coffee maker previously and did not want to shell out the money. The Bunn had lasted me over 10 years. Needless to say, I went back to Bunn and bought the thermal version from Target. I have only had it for a week, but I am thrilled so far.

1-0 out of 5 stars Want a Recall!
We purchased Melitta coffeemaker (MEFB2) because of fast brew feature in June, 2003. However in August, 2004, it shorted out and burned at one of the connections of the circuit board and blackened some of the plastic. Sparks flew without tripping the circuit breaker. The sneak-a-cup feature worked only intermittenly throughout ownership. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is what I wanted a GOOD basic coffeemaker!
I have grown so tired from decades of buying coffeemakers with all the bells and whistles only to either have the bells stop ringing and the whistles stop blowing or having all the buttons and lights looking great from the top of my garbage bag as it joined all the other "sophisticated" coffeemakers. All I wanted was a coffeemaker that I could push a good big start button and 5 minutes later I could pull out the glass pot full of good, hot, rich coffee that even poured from the pot without dripping down onto my counter and sometimes my pants unless you got into the "zone" of pouring from a spout that was simply designed by a engineer who loved having his milk first thing in the morning from a cardboard half gallon container but not a spout from a glass pot. However, reaching the "zone" of anything was what I was drinking great coffee for. Basically I want an invisible coffeemaker. I don't even know or want to know if it turns itself off after a period of time...I just turned it off when it was finished and filled up my thermos with coffee that was, can you believe it, steaming hot and ready to give me refills all morning long. I could go on and on about its lack of features other than the ones I needed, but that would just be a waste of both of our times. This is a good simple coffee maker that I am sure will just do its job for years...Oh, I nearly forgot, the price is great.

1-0 out of 5 stars Melitta Malady
As a follow up to an earlier positive review, my unit lasted 16 months and no longer heats. I thought it might happen but not so quick. Never had one quit that soon in 25 years of owning 4 predecessors; a couple with hi watt elements.

1-0 out of 5 stars Another in a long line of sad Salton products
This one doesn't warm but BOILS the coffee if the pot is less than half full, and boiled coffee is always foul tasting. As another customer noted, this ill-conceived appliance's design also makes it almost inevitably easy to misalign the pot in the machine or spill some grounds between the funnel and filter, causing an overflow of soggy grounds back into the fresh water reservoir and all over the kitchen counter. It is also impossible to adequately clean grounds from the fresh water reservoir without dismantling the top half of the machine, not a quick or easy project for most people. Finally, after less than six months of daily use, the switch has worn out -- and Salton evidently doesn't sell replacement switches. Apparently there WAS a good reason a local retailer were closing out their remaining stock of this machine at less than the price of a replacement carafe. It STILL wasn't worth the money. I'll buy a Bunn coffeemaker next time.

5-0 out of 5 stars best coffee maker I've owned
I read some of the negative reviews and my advice is: "quit your belly-aching"! With careful use and the right formula for coffee this makes a rich, full-bodied carafe of coffee in short time (around 7 min.). I prefer this coffee to any chain store's coffee. I own the one with the atomic clock so it's brewed while I'm in the shower. Makes a great pot every time. My advice is to use a rich arabica blend that's not too finely ground. Natural Melita filters (#4) work fine.

1-0 out of 5 stars Truly poor design--a booby trap of an appliance
I purchased this coffemaker based on the rave reviews here. What a let down! If someone were to intentionally design a coffemaker for difficulty of use, this would be it. Here are some examples: The cone cannot stand on its own, so you must pour ground coffee into it while in place. Not so bad, but the water fill is adjacent to the coffe cone, so it is real easy to get some down into the water well. Then, if you don't have EVERYTHING perfectly aligned--the carafe lid, the position of the carafe, the cone itself--you'll end up with an overflow of ground coffee and hot water... all over the counter AND into the water well. The top lid lifts up and, attached to it is the hot water dripper. So watch out--easy to get burned by steam and then the condensation drips back into the well and begins perking again. Now, when and if you're successful brewing a pot without a mess, the burner is so hot you simply can't leave it for more than a few minutes without totally ruining the taste. Really Melitta, I can't understand how you could produce such a horrible coffemaker! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars almost perfect except for the LID!
Well I have the smaller pot, but same problem as the larger one apparently.
I love this little perk pot, so does my mom when she visits, so did my house-sitter last month! And so does my husband. It's quick to set up, perks your coffee almost instantly and is great. Stays hot long time. It makes the best tasting coffee by far.
HOWEVER. Everyone's universal complaint and The Reason it doesn't get 5 stars: what were they thinking with that plastic perk top that broke almost immediately after using the new pot??? It's really junky compared to the pot itself and all the other stainless steel parts. It constantly falls off now even while perking. The plastic cracked, is worn down etc. Hubby had coffee shooting out all over kitchen the other morning. I have not tried to get another top yet, too much hassle according to the other reviewers.
ALso: the lid is way too tight to remove just by lifting off or even twisting-- you have to use a dull knife in the percolator hole (where the junky plastic part normally sits) to pop the lid off. Come on melitta! I expected more from you guys.

4-0 out of 5 stars Melitta Java Perk MEP10
I love our 10 cup percolator purchased at Target more than any other drip brewer coffeemaker. The taste of the coffee, especially the organic coffee, is superb, unlike the watered-down coffee you get at restaurants.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disapointed
We loved this pot when we bought it. The design, the taste and temperature of the coffee; but like everyone else our joy was short lived. The cheap plastic top snapped off after 3 months. I have not contacted the company, but I will be doing so shortly. I wish I had read these reviews before I went shopping.

4-0 out of 5 stars Melita MEP 10 - Four Stars
Just purchased the MEP 10 and so far so good. It makes wonderful coffee (better than Farberware)so on that note I have no complaints. For those of you who have had an issue with the plastic see thru perk top, I would contact Melita directly and ask to speak with the Office of the President or ask for the President by name, George Landgrebe. In the past when I have had issues with a Company and could not find resolution by speaking with customer service, I asked for the phone number to the Corporate Office and have been successful in finding a resolve. In the event I have a problem with the cover, I'll be calling Meltia directly.

3-0 out of 5 stars Perfect except for the top!
The plastic percolator thingy on the top broke after a couple of months. I am trying to get a replacement top from Salton, but they have been out of stock for the last 4 months! My husband and I love the coffee almost as much as french pressed, and it's so fast! It's also the perfect amount for us. I don't want to buy a whole new coffemaker just to replace the top and not if its going to break just like the old one! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Hasn't made a bad pot yet
Like another reviewer, we've had our coffee machine for about a year. We have experienced no mechanical problems. Considering that the machine gets used every day and then sent through the dishwasher, that's saying a lot. It has yet to make a bad pot of coffee. Since the quality of the unit's output is why anyone should buy a coffee machine, this is a great unit.

Okay, it makes great coffee, so why not a 5? Well, if you run it through a dishwasher, there's a handle of sorts on one side of the filter housing which always fills up with dishwasher water and gunk.

4-0 out of 5 stars good for the price
This is my 4th coffee pot in 8 years. I love the melitta though. Yes it's not fancy, but that's what I like. No expensive features to break. No light bulbs to burn out. No clocks to reset. Only good, hot, delicious coffee. One negative thing is not all the water drains from the filter holder, so make sure to rinse after each pot of coffee is made. That's something I can live with.

4-0 out of 5 stars Keeps going
I have had this coffeemaker for almost a year now. That may not seem all that long, but in the days of disposible products I am happy to say it is still going strong. It keeps the coffee warm if not tongue burningly hot.

Biggest downside is that the cone is a bit tricky to get in and out. With a bit of practice -- it get's easier.

For a simple, inexpensive coffeemaker it is a good value -- especially if you need a black model to match your decor [smile].

2-0 out of 5 stars cheapest made coffeemaker
It makes a decent cup of coffee, but the funnel swings open on weak hinges that break very easily which mine did. In addition there is no "on" light to indicate the machine is on. Would you believe MELITA was too cheap to put a bulb in the on switch and painted it RED to indicate the coffeemaker was ON.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good and Basic
I would never use fancy timers, and I already have two digital clocks in the kitchen (microwave, stove) so all I need is an on/off switch, and hot coffee. This has both, and I am so-far pleased with it, especially given the price. My only complaint is that there is no light indicating when the power is on (just the color red when the switch is on). I am afraid without the light I will forget to turn it off. ... Read more

Tuck this compact (12 inches high by 9 inches wide by 9 inches deep) coffeemaker on a counter at home or office and brew a 10-cup pot of coffee in 10 minutes. Pour water into the reservoir (levels are marked from 2 to 10 cups), swing out the filter-holder and place a paper filter (included) inside, and then spoon in ground coffee with the scoop (included). Slide the carafe onto the warming plate and push the "on" button--water heats and drips into the filter. Because it's cone-shaped the filter-holder ensures water flows through all the coffee. Impatient for that first cup? Remove the carafe and its top releases a spring-loaded button on the filter cone, causing the coffee to stop dripping. The removable filter cone and carafe can go into the dishwasher, as the carafe is lightweight glass, but the rest of the coffeemaker is hard plastic, for easy wipe-down cleaning. --Fred Brack ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, just one gripe
This is a very nice, high-quality coffee maker. I have had mine for several months and the coffee is good. The only thing that I would change is that I would add one of those little windows where you can see how many cups of water you are pouring in. As you pour the water in, the little red ball rises, you know what I mean? I often make only 2 or 3 cups at a time, and with the silver metal band around the carafe, RIGHT at the 2-to-3 cup line, it's about impossible to tell how many cups you've got in there. The box says there is a feature to tell you how many cups you've poured in, but they are referring to lines inside the actual cavity where you pour the water. I guess you could lean over and peer in there to see what level you were at. Anyhow, if you always make 4 or more cups at a time, this will not matter to you at all! Like I said before, the coffee is great, I just know in the future to always get a coffee maker with the little window thingie.

Wake up and smell the coffee. With the digital clock/timer on this 10-cup coffeemaker, that fantasy comes true: just set the clock and program the hour and minute you want the brewing cycle to begin. Provided you've swung out the filter basket, spooned coffee into the removable liner, and poured in water to the level you desire, you can sleep like a baby (or a log) and freshly brewed coffee will greet you in the morning. (You can also brew at a touch without setting timer or clock.) The timing function is this coffeemaker's principal attribute, but there are others: dripping ceases when the tempered-glass carafe is removed from the nonstick warming plate; shutting down is automatic after two hours to prevent damage; pressing a button when brewing fewer than 5 cups slows the flow of water so maximum flavor can be extracted from grounds; a charcoal filter reduces chlorine and other off-tasting elements in water; thanks to a big handle, moving this coffeemaker is easy. --Fred Brack ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Not just beautiful but it also makes great coffee!
This coffeemaker not just features a stunning and pleasing design unlike any other model, but also brews a terrific cup of coffee. The only drawback may be the fact that the opening to the reservoir is rather shallow, which means you have to fill in the water slowly or it might overflow. But one gets easily the hang of it.
The active-carbon filter is allowing you to use just regular tab water without harming the taste of the coffee.
I certainly bought this coffeemaker foremost for it's unusual design, but after the first cup of coffee I congratulated myself for making such a wise choice.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great for Looks, not for Coffee
I bought the machine because of its looks. I returned the machine because the coffee was consistently lukewarm. If you depend upon a good HOT cup of coffee in the morning, this machine is not for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for school
For Christmas I wanted a coffeemaker that would turn on by itself, had a setting to keep the coffee tasting good if you were brewing a small amount, and would also shut off by itself after a couple of hours. This thing does it all. Since I like to sleep in as late as possible before running off to class, and getting through 9 o'clock Statics is almost physically impossible without some sort of caffeine boost, this coffeemaker is perfect. The filter is a plus since the water in the town is questionable, and it also has a neat contemporary look to it, therefore making it the most attractive thing in the kitchen. A definate "must" for any college student coffee drinker.

4-0 out of 5 stars Looks GREAT - needs a little work
This machine looks fabulous. It's truly unlike other coffee makers. The open back below the reservoir and the stainless steel bars make it a truly different countertop accessory. The design is not as functional as could be hoped. The coffee pot can only be inserted one way with the handle coming straight out. If you miss, you could be cleaning up a lot of coffee as the pause and serve will be tripped and start spewing. The opening to the reservoir is in the front, which is nice, but it's very shallow and you pour slowly or it just overflows. The reservoir can also be opened (to insert new filters) and this can be used for filling more quickly. The clock on the touchpad is laying face up which means you must look down on the machine to see the time. I don't tell time by my coffee machine, but it might bother some. A touchpad is used instead of buttons and that is handy for cleaning up little spills. The one I bought came with a loose handle that popped up and away when the pot was hot. Amazon sent a replacement, but by the time it got here we had figured out how to pop off the back of the handle and adjust the set screw on the metal band that keeps the handle tight. The pot is really not of the quality of the rest of the appliance. The lid is hinged and difficult to remove for cleaning. The metal band needs to be set in a recessed groove in the glass pot to lessen the likelyhood that a loose handle will spill a pot of hot coffee on someone. The bottom line is it makes good coffee and it looks cool and completely different. ... Read more

Melitta, a leading name in gourmet coffeemakers and accessories, ups the ante with its 10-cup Thermo coffeemaker. Every feature you want, and some you might not have thought of, are here. Use the stainless-steel thermal carafe, which removes easily from the base and has a removable lid, to fill the reservoir with water. The charcoal filter removes impurities--chlorine in particular--from the water, and the cone shape allows total saturation of the coffee grounds for richer, superior-tasting coffee. The swing-out design of the filter cone prevents spills, and the filter cleans up in a flash. 1-0 out of 5 stars I expected better from Melitta...
I absolutely loved this coffee maker when I purchased it. The carafe kept the coffee warm, if not hot, for several hours after brewing without cooking it. That is great for those of us who drink coffee all morning. I also loved the quick brewing time. But the problems started within a month of purchase. Like other reviewers here - the machine would shut off before brewing all of the coffee. No sticker in the reservoir here. It just wouldn't go through. At first it was just the last cup or two that wouldn't brew, but later it only brewed a cup or two, leaving most of the water in the reservoir. I called customer service and they said I'd have to ship it to them (do you know how BIG this machine is?!) and they would fix it in 4 to 6 weeks. Yikes! Who can go without a coffee pot for 4 to 6 weeks? I took it back to the store (didn't get it at Amazon) and badgered them for a replacement (it was over 30 days since purchase). Finally, I got a new one and thought that would be the end of it. Well, here I sit 2 months later with a "new" coffee pot that doesn't work. Now, not only will it not brew, it won't even turn on. I am so disappointed in this model. I really expected better quality from Melitta.

4-0 out of 5 stars Type of Coffee
I was having a problem with the coffee maker shutting off before all the water was brewed. I read a review from some one else having the same problem and they said they found a sticker covering the water inlet. I checked for this and found nothing. I contacted Mellitta and the girl asked me what kind of coffee I was using. I told her it was fine grind. She told me to use regular grind, which I have switched to and have not had any more problems.
Hope this is helpful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice, but what's with the useless spout?
I highly recommend this machine, but be careful when you pour--coffee tends to dribble down the side if it's not tilted juuust right...

...and if you're looking for the PERFECT CUP OF COFFEE, go find a tin of D'Aquino Italian Espresso coffee (mostly available on the west coast). It is sublime.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great overall coffee maker-with a sticker problem
This is a great coffe maker that holds coffee hot and FRESH for a long period of time. Like other people's reviews, the only flaw is the dripping spout of the thermal carafe. Other then that, it is great.

In regards to Joseph D. Boyle's remark about coffee not completely brewing into the carafe, I found the culprit. This problem occurred to me as well after about a year's use. Thinking it may have been a mineral build-up, I used vinegar to clean it out several times, yet the problem still existed.

So, upon close inspection of the water reservoir, I found the sticker regarding the charcoal filter,(which was attached to the lid initially when I first bought the coffee maker) at the bottom of the water reservoir sitting right above the water inlet valve. It was blocking the water from entering the valve. After its removal, the coffee maker worked fine.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dribble pot
This coffeemaker makes a great cup of coffee, and looks very stylish- BUT- the pot dribble everytime you pour. If you buy one, keep it next to the sink and a supply of paper towels! ... Read more

The Choco Latte hot beverage maker from Melitta churns out just about any hot beverage on your in-house menu. While the machine does not include an espresso maker, it does turn out great steamed milk, a feature in which many espresso machines fall short. You can froth or steam milk right in the pitcher or "vacuum" it up, heat it, and dispense it into a cup--great for hot chocolate. A froth regulator controls how much air is incorporated into the milk to make drinks to taste. And drip coffee brews and stays warm in the cute, chubby, 8-cup thermal carafe with a comfortable handle and clearly marked stopper. The Choco Latte also has an easily cleaned drip grid and tray, an illuminated power switch, multiple steaming speeds, a milk pitcher that stores on board or in the fridge, and a descaling hose for cleaning the machine. --Emily Bedard ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Do not be deceived by the name
This machine does not make lattes or cappuccinos. When I ordered it I had no idea how to make a latte. The manual that comes with it does not tell how to make lattes, just how to froth milk. I had to buy an espresso machine to make my lattes. The froth milk spout(steamer) doesn't work all the time. Most of the time it doesn't produce froth, just warm milk.

...it is an excellent coffeemaker. The coffee is very hot and stays hot a long time in the carafe.

4-0 out of 5 stars works well
We've made tasty, frothy hot chocolate. We didn't realize that the coffee holder is a thermos rather than a holder that sits on a heating element, but it works well.

2-0 out of 5 stars Does not make Latte!!
This is a mediocre machine that makes steamed milk and coffee. However, it is advertised as a latte maker. It does not make latte's. Personally, I think it is false advertising.

A Traditional "Latte" requires a shot of espresso and unless you have an espresso machine you can not make Latte's with this product. I had to purchase an additional espresso machine to make Latte's with this product.

Buyer beware.

5-0 out of 5 stars In one word, fabulous!
I love my new Choco Latte machine. It has all the features I was seeking -- thermal carafe, milk froth-o-matic and removable water tank.

This machine makes coffee quickly, and the steamer function is very easy to use. (Could it be any easier? Does this make it too easy?) You can steam chocolate milk, regular milk, syrup-flavored milk, any kind of milk you want.

The carafe is a great size, and really does keep your coffee warm for hours without any fear of leaving the heater on. Unlike some of the thermal carafes I've used in the past, this one has a large opening once you remove the lid, which makes it much easier to clean.

I highly recommend this machine. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars I love percolated coffee
I loved the way my coffee tasted when brewed in the Melitta percolater. About the only thing I would change is the plastic bubble on the top of the lid. I've had two break apart on me. Since I cannot find replacement parts, I've had to replace the entire pot.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a mess!
The lid is to darn tight and after a lengthy struggle it finally popped off sending hot coffee and grinds all over me and the kitchen wall, counter, and floor. I dumped the pot, replaced the lid and had my husband try to open it and the same thing happened. Am returning this item.

3-0 out of 5 stars nice, but...
At first I was thrilled with this percolator - it made fantastic coffee (Gevalia is the best in this, by the way) and we really were enjoying it. BUT, now we have had it for only 3 weeks and the water level gauge on the handle is not working right - I had filled the pot to the brim with water, and the gauge said it was only half full! Other times, the gauge will read that the pot had 8 cups of water in it - when in reality the thing is empty! FRUSTRATING!

5-0 out of 5 stars A perk-y pot
We ordered the Melitta Percolator after realizing our coffee wasn't brewing hot enough with the drip machine we have used for five years. As advertised, this machine perks the coffee very fast, and the coffee stays very hot until we unplug the machine (it appears that most of the new drip machines have a two-hour time limit).

The basket mechanism has a spring-y feel and an efficient shape, and it's a pleasure to watch the coffee bubble up through the glass top.

The capacity indicator on the outside makes it easy to estimate the amount of water loaded into the cold pot, and the amount of brewed coffee remaining in the hot pot. The basket is so deep that no matter how strong you like to make the coffee, there's always room. And we have found a good use for the old basket-shaped filters - we line the container with one before putting the coffee in the basket, thus keeping the potentially bitter oils and grounds out of the pot, even if we grind the coffee finer than recommended for a percolator.

Cleaning the percolator is more work than cleaning a drip pot, because you have to wipe down the stainless steel exterior after washing to keep the device looking good, but the taste is (surprisingly) as good as the drip machine we've been using.

Pluses are the infinite keep-warm time, the fast and fun-to-watch perk action, and the retro look. ... Read more

Ah, the aroma of percolating coffee in the morning. And the sound, too, that perk, perk, perk promising a boost when it's needed. This pretty percolator brings the retro coffee-brewing method into the 21st century. A transparent knob on the top allows the brewing cycle to be monitored, as always, but this percolator adds convenience to tradition. Plug it in and brewing begins within seconds at a cup-a-minute speed (six cups maximum). The stay-cool bottom sets down on any surface without harm; the stay-cool handle permits safe pouring, and the power cord detaches to prevent counter clutter. Add a gleaming, mirror-polish body and matte-finish handle and bottom in blue, and function marries form winningly. 5-0 out of 5 stars Tired of the endless drip?
Then this little perculator is for you!! It is really cute and stylish, hardly taking up any counter space at all! I didn't realize how ugly and worn out looking my old drip pot was until I replaced it with my little 6 cup Meritta. This pot is super fast, perks out 6 cups of wonderfully hot coffee in 6 minutes (1 cup per minute). Once it has complete it's perking cycle, it keeps the remaining coffee nice and warm. I highly recommend Merlitta 6cup if you are tired of the endless drip, sick of looking at the huge unit on your counter and want a fresher tasting coffee.

I am as much of a coffee connisseur as the next person, and I certainly enjoy my double tall non-fat lattes. But, not having a lot of counter space, I needed a small coffee pot for home use. My friends cautioned me against a "percolator," but I wanted to try it. I have been enjoying it and quite like it for home use. It's nice to be able to brew a small pot of coffee and then either share a cup with a friend, or drink it myself throughout the morning. A couple of tips: Buy some good coffee with dark beans (french roast, or a good blend) and grind it on the percolator setting in the store. I started out with too fine a grind, and the coffee didn't taste very good, but when I switched to a coarser grind (and a different kind of coffee), it was much better. This is a great little coffee pot, but if you are a true coffee afficianado you should probably stick to a drip system.

4-0 out of 5 stars perfect for 2 people but some big design flaws:
I love this pot--I bought it because my husband has an amazing ability to break every glass coffee pot once it's in the sink, so I hoped this one would be indestructible... Also, it's nice looking, my friends comment on it's cool 'retro' look.
ALAS I have to agree with the other guy about the lid, that was the reason I was writing a review tonight, the lid is a PAIN to get off when you need to clean the pot, with nowhere to grip and as a result you pull on the little plastic knob,(which I actually assumed was glass at first); wiggling and twisting it and essentially it cracks! Believe me, It didn't take long to crack with the yanking of the lid EVERY time.
Also someone else mentioned it does not make 6 big cups of coffee and that is very true, so it's not good if you have company, but ok for 2 people...
Of course when my new pro style ESPRESSO machine arrives, the java perc will take a break. Possibly a LONG break. In the glassless coffee maker graveyard.
SO,mainly it does make great coffee (though there is some sediment), it's nice looking and small, BUT the lid is a pain. If anyone can tell me a trick to opening it I would love to know!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, very hot coffee
This percolator is perfect......very attrative, cordless and brews a very very hot fast cup of coffee. I like to use alot of milk and the coffee is still very, very hot. I would recommend this product.

2-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful yet flawed
This could be the world's best little perculator except for one major flaw. The clear viewing ball on the lid is made of plastic, becomes brittle in relatively short time, and it WILL break. According to the manufacturer, you cannot simply purchase the ball - you must replace the entire lid. When I tried to order the lid, there were none in stock. It is pretty though! ... Read more

Equipped with a digital clock/timer tuned by a radio receiverto the U.S. atomic clock, this coffeemaker brews up to twelve 5-ouncecups of coffee and, because the clock/timer can be programmed up to 24hours in advance, will begin the brewing process automatically forwake-up coffee. The clock is split-second accurate because itautomatically adjusts, if necessary, to the atomic clock's signals sixtimes every 24 hours. The atomic clock, operated by the NationalInstitute of Standards and Technology, is one of the most accurate inthe world.

The coffeemaker brews at a high temperature for speed--35 seconds percup, with a four-cup minimum. For a quick pour, it automatically pausesthe brewing process for 30 seconds when the carafe is removed from itswarming plate. The glass carafe has a guard to protect the knuckles andis dishwasher-safe. On the coffeemaker's left side is a transparentgauge for monitoring the water level. The filter basket accommodatescone-shaped paper filters and removes for filling and cleaning.Lightweight and clad in bright plastic, the 1,450-watt coffeemaker haspush-in cord storage, measures 13-1/2 inches high, 8 inches wide, and9-1/2 inches deep, and carries a one-year warranty against defects.--Fred Brack ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Coffee Maker
I've enjoyed my Melitta Perfect Time coffeemaker for over a year. My husband doesn't like it because he didn't push the carafe in all the way and had a mess to clean up. However, my sister and neice have visited and liked it so much they each are buying one!

1-0 out of 5 stars No time for perfect coffee
This coffee maker makes great coffee but the atomic clock does not work! The atomic clock for this coffee maker worked for about and week and then quite. I have been trying to get the coffee maker repaierd or replaced for over three months. Melitta refers you to Salon the manufacturer who has a completely unresponsive customer service department. Customer service does not respond to e-mails and telephoning produces little reults. I have been promised a return authorization and mailing label for months and have yet to see it. May be I need to talk to George Forman since they also make his grill to see if he can help get it repaired..

5-0 out of 5 stars Melitta Atomic Clock Coffee Maker WONDERFUL!!!!!
This is my second purchase of the Melitta Perfect Time Coffee Maker in six months. I adored my first one. Made great coffee, and I loved the automatic settings and the atomic clock. For the first time in history my husband and I arrived at appointments on time! Unfortunately, I had programmed our wonderful Melitta PT Coffee Maker, but my husband thought I had not put water in the reservior...he added water and it overflowed. Rather than just pushing the on button and starting the coffee maker to brew and allowing the water to come out through the pot, he turned the whole thing upside down and got the circuit board wet. That was not a good thing. It ruined all of the settings, including the on/off switch. So, because we loved that first Melitta so much, we are coming back for another one. That is the sign of a good appliance, when you come back the second time!

1-0 out of 5 stars Signal problems in South Florida
I finally called Salton after waiting the coffee maker to pick up the atomic clock signal for days. They told me that South Floridians seem to have problems with receiving the clock signal and told me to move the coffee maker to another room and have it face northwest. I keep on moving my Melitta from one room to another without success.

I do have a table clock that gets the correct time from Colorado (where the atomic clock is located) and it seems to be working fine so maybe there is something wrong with the coffee maker's clock. It does show time but unfortunately not the right one.

I brewed coffee with my Melitta and I liked the flavor. It was a bit noisy though during the brewing process.

1-0 out of 5 stars Atomic clock my foot
I suppose it's not surprising that a coffee-maker brand can't tell an atomic clock receiver from a transistor radio, but this is awful. If you want a coffee maker and you have [some extra money] you want to spend, go ahead and get this coffee maker. It will be fun to confuse your friends by prominently displaying an incorrect time in your house.

I have a SkyScan clock (ASIN B00006BT14) in another room that acquired a signal and sync'd instantly the second I put the batteries in. This is clearly not a problem with my location, as the tech-support folks at Melitta would have me believe. It's a problem with the product. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Decent coffee, delicate clock
This seemed like a nice-looking coffee-maker with a really cool clock feature, so I bought it. The clock synchronization kicked in almost immediately; unfortunately, the daylight savings time adjustment never happened, or I'm too close to the border of the Eastern time zone, and I was forced to set the unit to the Eastern time zone even though I live in the Central. After the time changed it seemed like all was well, until the filter overflowed the first time. The carafe must be positioned perfectly for brewing, not a difficult task since the carafe fits snugly in the unit, so I guess I was careless. Also, take care positioning the paper filters. I noticed some time later that the clock was running 4 minutes behind. It has overflowed one more time since, and now the clock is twelve minutes behind. There is no manual adjustment for the clock.

As I said, aesthetically this is a beautifully designed coffee-maker, however, the carafe must be removed and replaced in the unit with no sidelong motion whatsoever, so if space is at a premium, bear in mind that not even your cup can be in front of the coffeemaker unless your counter is deep.

The unit does make a decent cup of coffee very quickly, although I wish it had a "strength" adjustment. It's still brewing coffee for me, but I originally thought I could use it to set my other clocks in the house, and that's out of the question because it's currently synched to some alien time zone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Coffee....Great Value
I have been shopping around for a new coffee maker for several months. I ran across a Melitta brand at a department store and checked to see how it was made, looked at the pot, and was amazed at the quality.

So I found this one and bought it immediately. I was a bit skeptical about the "atomic clock." But within minutes, the clock was sync'd. The top flips up making it very easy to pour the water in and to put the coffee in. The pot is very good quality and doesn't drip when you pour the coffee.

I followed the directions and ran 2 pots of water through the coffee pot, and then I gave it the coffee test. I was very impressed on the taste of the coffee. I got my old coffee maker out and ran the coffee through it, and noticed a big difference in taste.

I'd recommend this item to anyone who enjoys a good cup of coffee!

4-0 out of 5 stars Been using this coffeemaker for over a month now
When the first coffeemaker arrived, there was a problem with the circuit board (wouldn't stay on)and it had to be returned. the second one arrived and it took a full 48 hours for the atomic clock to connect to daylight savings time. Other than that, REALLY like the shape of the carafe, doesn't drip. Cone filters, with removable holder for the filter. The coffee brews very quickly and makes very good coffee. I only wish it had a removable water resevoir rather than having to fill it from the carafe. ... Read more
