Amazon.com Review

This adorable dinnerware set makes a very special gift for a precious new baby. The set can begin its life on a display shelf in baby's room and then move to the cupboard as baby is ready to start eating solids. Featuring the original illustrations of Peter Rabbit as drawn by Beatrix Potter, the set includes a bowl for rice cereal or applesauce, a plate to hold teething biscuits or toast, and a small mug for milk. The letters A, B, and C are also scattered over the dinnerware to give baby her first start at learning the alphabet. As with most Wedgwood collections, this dinnerware is made of fine bone china, one of the strongest ceramics, which can hold up fairly well to rough little hands. This modern-day china is safe for the dishwasher and microwave and is made in England with the same quality and care as earlier Wedgwood pieces. This set includes the Beatrix Potter book Peter Rabbit's ABC 123 and comes packaged in a gift box illustrated with more reproductions of Potter's work. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Nantucket baskets were originally made in the mid-1800s by lightship keepers off the coast of the tiny island of Nantucket, Massachusetts, to earn extra income for their families. Today the tradition of making these baskets is still very much alive and carrying a handcrafted Nantucket basket is quite a status symbol among East Coasters who have visited or summer on the island. Wedgwood's Nantucket pattern captures the heritage of these baskets and the tastefulness of New England's upper crust in a simple yet lovely dinnerware collection. Perfect for family-style serving of grilled vegetables, burgers, or baked salmon fillets, this pure white, 13-3/4-inch oval platter features no more ornamentation than an embossed basketweave pattern around its rim and easily moves from casual meals to dressier affairs.

As with many Wedgwood collections, this dinnerware is made of fine bone china, which gives this platter a beautiful translucent sheen and makes it look quite thin and brittle. In spite of its delicate appearance, however, bone china is reinforced with 51-percent bone ash and is the strongest ceramic available. This modern-day china is safe for the microwave and dishwasher and is made in England with the same quality and care as earlier pieces from Wedgwood's 240 years of production. This platter coordinates with a variety of other dinner- and serveware pieces within the Nantucket collection. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Formerly sold only to restaurants, this professional-quality pasta plate is now available to home kitchens as well. Pure white to display and not distract from food being served on it, this 11-1/2-inch pasta plate is a perfect backdrop for everything from squash ravioli to ribollita. Its wide diameter gives it the appearance of containing a huge quantity of food, but its shallow depth (1 inch from the plate's bottom to its rim) ensures you won't overeat even the most exquisite pasta preparations. Its unleaded glaze gleams brilliantly--just what you'd expect of Wedgwood bone china, which has delighted royals and commoners since Josiah Wedgwood, the father of English potters, began making his renowned ceramics in 1759. Containing about 50 percent animal bone, which accounts for its startling translucency and considerable weight, bone china is the strongest of all ceramic tableware--stronger even than porcelain or earthenware--and is dishwasher-safe. As avid collectors know, Wedgwood china lasts several lifetimes, making it esteemed as an heirloom. --Fred Brack ... Read more

This sweet little tea set is ready to serve only the most important dolls at your child's next tea party and is pretty enough to sit on a display shelf in your child's bedroom. The set includes a covered teapot, sugar bowl, and creamer and is decorated with original illustrations from Peter Rabbit as drawn by Beatrix Potter. Those familiar with the Peter Rabbit story will immediately recognize the sentences, lifted right from the book, that are imprinted along the rim of the creamer, lid of the teapot, and sides of the sugar bowl. Embossed with simple geometric patterns, the all-white pieces in this single place setting are perfect for use at dinner, breakfast, or lunch: night and day. Their unleaded glaze gleams brilliantly--just what you'd expect of Wedgwood bone china, which has delighted royals and commoners since Josiah Wedgwood, the father of English potters, began making his renowned ceramics in 1759. The place setting consists of a 10-1/2-inch checkerboard-patterned dinner plate, an 8-inch fluted salad/dessert plate, a 6-inch diamond-patterned bread plate, and a 10-ounce fluted cup with diamond-patterned saucer. Amazon.com Review

One of the oldest patterns in Wedgwood's 240-year history, Jasper was introduced by the company's founder, Josiah Wedgwood, in 1775 and continues to have a large following of collectors of both antique and newly produced pieces. A type of unglazed, fine-grained, and nonporous stoneware, Jasper was named for its resemblance in hardness to the stone jasper. The body of this porcelain is white at its beginnings and is then dipped into metallic oxide coloring agents to shade it to black or one of several light pastel colors--with periwinkle blue, the color of this tray, being the most popular and recognizable by collectors. Inspired by Neoclassical style and Greek and Roman mythology, the design work on Jasperware is hand-applied by craftspeople and features white cameo figures and ornamentation in bas-relief. These molded decorations are fired directly onto each piece for durability.

True to the collection's roots, this tray's edges have carved ornamentation resembling Roman columns and scrollwork. The central design features a raised 18th century scene in contrasting white of a woman with two children, originally designed by Lady Templeton This 6-1/3-by-4-1/2-inch tray is made in England and is wonderful for holding jewelry or displaying in a cabinet with an established Jasper collection. --Cristina Vaamonde ... An offshoot of Wedgwood's stark white Grand Gourmet dinnerware collection, this sturdy bakeware line is durably constructed for everyday use and uncomplicated style. Measuring 15 inches long, this oval dish simmers enough lamb shanks in tomato sauce to serve six people or makes an ample amount of baked shells. The baker is made of fine glazed porcelain, which provides consistent, even heating for entrées or desserts and is safe for the oven, freezer, microwave, and dishwasher.

Contrary to the rather austere Grand Gourmet dinnerware pieces, the bakeware features an interesting ridged exterior called the "La Toque" design. The "pleats" on this bakeware are inspired by the pleated hats or toques worn by many chefs in five-star restaurants and, historically, each pleat is meant to represent the chef's mastering of a different and unique preparation of a particular food. The baker is handsome enough to serve right at the table yet still simple enough to mix and match with most other tableware and dinnerware.
