This impressive appliance is designed to be easy and safe to use, clean to operate and wash, and it produces exceptional food. It delivers on all accounts. The detailed instructions lead you through the process of heating oil to the correct temperature, then lowering the frying basket into the oil as the lid remains closed. This means that odors and mess are kept inside the fryer. A built-in digital timer times the cooking or can be pre-set; a viewing window lets you check on the food while it's cooking. Safety is built in--the sides of the fryer remain cool, and the hot oil stays inside. When the food is done, raise the basket and serve. The 2.2-pound capacity accommodates ample french fries, calamari, or tempura for four. The whole process makes surprisingly nongreasy food because the oil is heated evenly to the correct temperature.

DeLonghi gave careful attention to cleanup. A tube unfolds from a hidden compartment and efficiently drains the oil so that it can be used again--a system that's both easy and sanitary. 5-0 out of 5 stars Cadillac of fryers!
I recently purchased this fryer from.... I am very pleased with the fryer. This is the Cadillac of deep fryers!

Pros: Cool touch sides. Digital timer. Rotating fry basket. Uses about ½ of the oil of other deep fryers with same results, giving it considerable advantage: save money on oil. Quiet operation. Easy cleanup: simply slide out the oil container tray, slip in the container with filter and drain the oil from the drain spout. Inside the fry basin is Teflon so it simply wipes clean. Window on the top lid allows you to see your food as it cooks. Odor filter in the lid reduces cooking odors.

Cons: Fry basket did not engage the fryer and would not rotate. However this was simple to fix, just bend the bottom of the basket slightly and the problem is fixed.

To summarize, I have done a lot of research on deep fryers on the market and I found that this fryer was the best pick. The instructions that come with the unit are easy to read and understand, they explain the operation of the unit thoroughly. There is also a temperature and cooking time chart that is helpful. I found that the food cooked a bit faster than the chart stated. If you are looking to buy a new fryer, I would recommend this fryer!

5-0 out of 5 stars This One Can't Be Beat
For home use, this fryer simply cannot be beat. We're on our second, after my mother-in-law convinced us to give her our old one. The first roto-fryer we picked up, some 10 years ago, is still in operation at the in-laws house. Of course we're even more pleased with the newer fryer as they added teflon to the interior for easy cleanup and a drain tube, which makes cleanup a cinch.

This will cook about the healthiest deep fry around. We have had several deep fryers over the years, and none are as crisp and grease free as the roto fryers. It is no gimmick; it really works.

Some here have complained it is too small. It doesn't take that long to cook items in there, so if huge portions are your thing it won't take that much longer. It is average size and will easily cook servings for 4...or should I say recommended serving sizes. Some have complained about liquid batters getting stuck in the basket. As a fast food worker in my teens, this will be true of any backet I've ever seen. Easiest way around this is to pick up a piece of stainless steel screen from your local hardware store to place in the basket, and any basket will cook all the tempura you can throw at it. Or you can pull the basket, although the whole purpose of this fryer is to move items in and out of the oil and it doesn't really contain that much oil.

So if plugging up your heart and huge portions are your thing, I'd look elsewhere. If you want a healthier choice in deep frying, easy cleanup, save on your oil use, etc., give this one a try. You will not be disappointed in the final product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Performance for batter fried foods
I thought the idea of the food not staying in the oil for the entire cooking time was a good idea; and maybe it is. However, our deep frying is mainly batter fried foods like coconut shrimp, fried oysters, etc. With this unit the batter will flow through the wire basket and stick to the basket. This makes it impossible to remove the food without practically destroying the food in the process. It seems to me a nonstick basket would be an excellent idea; I guess the DeLonghi engineers never thought of that. It may work just fine for french fries or breaded food; I don't know. If batter fried foods are your preference, stay away from this unit.

2-0 out of 5 stars High Maintenance Costs
Although DeLonghi makes a good deep fryer, please consider the cost of replacement filters before you buy. DeLonghi replacement filters do not last very long and they are not easy to find. If you buy them directly from DeLonghi America, one pack of replacement filters can cost as much as $32.00 plus $4.50 for shipping! (Amazon does sell one type of replacement filter for $17.99, but your DeLonghi deep fryer might not use them.) One pack of replacement filters usual includes 3 sets of filters. The 6-piece set includes 3 carbon filters and 3 oil vapor filters. If you use your DeLonghi deep fryer often, the cost of replacement filters could easily exceed the cost of the DeLonghi deep fryer in one year! It could be less expensive to simply buy a brand new DeLonghi deep fryer each time you run out of filters. Just food for thought!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful appliance -- No complaints
I think this fryer is terrific. It uses less oil than others, heats up quickly, lets you reuse the oil, and is pretty easy to clean (even for us lazy folks). My favorite things to fry up are vegan fried chicken (wheat meat) and vegan chicken-fried steak, as well as falafel, tofu, sweet potatoes, and mushrooms. It's not hard at all to get everything cooked to perfection: if you don't like the way it looks when you raise the lid, just close it again and drop the basket back down. The digital timer is very convenient.

One recommendation for reusing oil after frying something battered: when draining the oil into the container, definitely use the yellow filter basket. Monitor the oil by keeping your fingers on the red rubber outlet hose. If the filter basket fills up too high, the oil will flow through the overflow holes into the container and miss the filtering. Just squeeze the tube closed until the oil drains through the filter, and let more out when the filter has emptied. This way the oil will be clear and free of batter, and will work much better the next time you use it. Also, if there is a great deal of "sludge" left at the bottom of the fryer after the oil has been drained, you can scoop it out with a paper towel before rinsing the non-stick basin with soapy water. ... Amazon.com Review

By placing its 1,650-watt heating element directly in the oil, this commercial-style deep fryer creates a current in the oil for fast, uniform frying and has a zone of cooler oil beneath the element into which food particles fall and don't burn. That means oil lasts longer without acquiring an off flavor. Capable of frying up to 3 pounds of food (and holding 5-1/4 quarts of oil), the fryer feeds a family or a soccer team. The rustproof chrome frying basket (5-1/4 by 9-1/4 inches) is rectangular for accommodating fish and long french fries and locks in the "up" position for draining food. The fryer's thermostat adjusts from 140 to 360 degrees F, and an indicator light shines when oil reaches the selected temperature. For safety and to prevent overheating, the heating element shuts off automatically if something is wrong. A reset button starts it again after a cool-down interval.

Because the heating element and the frying pan can be removed, the stainless-steel fryer can be emptied and cleaned easily. It has a fingerprint-proof brushed finish and is equipped with stay-cool synthetic handles. During frying, the lid, which contains a fine-mesh, stainless-steel filter for reducing odor, fits in place, with the basket's stay-cool handle extending outside. (The handle locks into place for safety and folds for storage under the lid.) The fryer measures 9 inches wide, 12 inches high, and 15-1/2 inches long (excluding the extended basket handle) and carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars : True Stainless Steel Fryer ! a 3 year warranty available
I looked at many different deep fryers. Many claim to be a Stainless Steel Deep Fryer. The difference being the tub is stainless and the lid is made of plastic. The baskets are different grades of steel and chrome.

The DeLonghi offers a fryer tub and lid in stainless with a high grade steel and chrome used in the basket. You can check if it is stainless by using a magnet. It will not stick to stainless. The outer shell is made of high polished steel. This all makes for good heat transfer. Clean up is a breeze. You can clean the item with a rub and not a scrub. The filter is metal and requires no replacement.

The unit holds a gallon of oil and I prefer corn or vegetable oil rather than peanut. Tip ! Use the old container for storing oil.

The heating unit sits in the oil and offers a cool zone for food particles to fall below the heating unit. This allows the particles not to burn and ruin the oil. Easy clean up when oil is cold. Particles stay on bottom and not in the oil when pouring used oil in container.
The extra large capacity baskets will allow you to easily put 3 lbs of chicken with room to spare.

The max temperature of 360* is not a problem. 350* is more than adequate to cook any items for deep frying. Recovery time is excellent. The heating element of 1650 watts is more than adequate. Be aware a higher temp may brown or burn the outside while leaving the inside uncooked. Especially in thicker foods. Not to mention the higher the temp, the quicker the oil breaks down. Most food establishments operate their fryers at 350*. Higher wattage may cause your circuit breaker to blow where 15amp. breakers are used. Some require a 20 amp breaker. There is also a pressure switch to assure the heating unit is installed properly in the fryer in addition to having it's own safety breaker built in and can be manually reset.

There is a slot to hold the basket over the oil to drip excess oil off the item cooked. Tip ! Do not leave basket full of food over oil for an excessive amount of time since steam or heat from fryer oil may reduce crispiness.

There is minimal contact with metal regarding the plastic.
DeLonghi comes with a one year warranty and inside each box is an envelope with DeLonghi offering an additional 2 year warranty for only $12.00. Making a total of three years.

The manual is well detailed regarding use and care but very poor regarding cooking times. I guess since this is a commercial style fryer for the home , they feel the cook will determine when the food is finished. Keep in mind the food will continue to cook when it is out of the oil.

The electrical magnetic disconnect can only be inserted one way. The connection is also well protected in back of the unit and is raised off the counter.

I also like the high sides of the frying tank allowing adequate room for the expansion of the oil especially with fries. Not a problem with oil running down the sides!

I also like after cleaning the unit there is no after smell of oil compared to the plastic lids and side models.
The details regarding this unit can be reviewed in Review Details.

In addition customer service is readily available with a simple phone call offering a toll free number. Waiting times not an issue. Very responsive to e mails as well.If your looking for a high quality fryer with a excellent warranty and easy clean up this is for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceeded expectations for fabulous frying
Fryer is engineered wonderfully, always reliable, always ready. Very easy to clean up. Everything except the element goes into the dishwasher! With a small funnel and strainer (one piece) the oil is cleaned and recycled quickly and easily. The unit doesn't come with a timer, so a reliable timer is also required.

2-0 out of 5 stars great function - lousy reliability
If Delonghi has two engineers designing their fryers, the one who designes the functions deserves five stars while the other who engineers the product gets no stars. From reading other reviews, the problem always seems to be where the power comes in. Our case also. The plastic module to which wires attach burnt not only itself but also made a good black hole into the table. A letter to Delonghi failed to provide us with a new part, but we like the fryer functions enough to have bought a new one. This one is on a marble base. But please note that Delonghi does not send a marble block with this unit ...

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent results!
I have had this product about 2 months. I love it! The temp recovery is quick, and everything I have fried in the fryer has exceeded my expectations.

I had some problem with the power connection at first, but after working with the product a couple of times, I worked out the kinks.

I recommend this fryer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great deep fryer if you can get it to start.
This has a detachable cord which is great for people who has small children, but it is also horrible to get the deep fryer to work. I bought my first one and I end up returning it to the store because there was no power. I bought another one that was on sale. I was happy because the second one worked and it fried great; however, the second time there was no power. They asked me to send it back and will provide a replacement. I hope the defect in the power source is corrected in the replacement because I love greasy food. ... Read more
