Amazon.com Review

Combining cordless convenience with impressive suction, the Dirt Devil Extreme Power stick vacuum tackles bare floors and carpets wherever you take it. A 14.4-volt machine, the vacuum features a rotating brush roll for agitating dirt out of carpet fibers. The brush roll shuts off on bare floors, eliminating the possibility of scratches on your hardwoods. Dirt collection is completely bagless, with a transparent dust container that pops off for easy emptying. An included filter traps small particulates and can be tapped clean for maintenance and reuse.

Lightweight and slim in profile, the vacuum is ideal for speedy pickups and everyday cleaning jobs. Thanks to its fold-down handle and trim footprint, it is suitable for small apartments but the suction is strong enough to handle mid-size homes. Dirt Devil includes a charging base that also acts as a storage stand, and charging can be continuous without damage to the machine. With a 9-1/2-inch cleaning path, the Extreme Power stands 42-1/2 inches high. Dirt Devil includes a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful, But Light
This little machine is incredible. It is so lightweight yet so powerful. We have two dogs who shed terribly and our entire house is carpted. I hated dragging out that heavy, heavy Kenmore just to vacuum the area where i do my yoga and exercises. Every couple of days I grab my dirt devil cordless and vacuum small areas. It doesn't miss a speck of dust or hair on the carpet anywhere I vacuum with it. After use you just stick it back onto its charging base. The only problem is that the cup where the dirt and hair accumulate is awfully small and you have to empty it frequently if you have heavy shedders in your home. Not a problem for me though. I LOVE this machine and HIGHLY recommend it to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars A little wonder
Having just put tile throughout the house, and living with 3 dogs and 2 cats, I hated hauling out the heavy vacuum and plugging it in. And then unplugging and plugging again and again all the while dragging it around the house.. This little wonder does the whole house, is light and does the job. The only complaint I could possibly have is that the dirt cup is quite small and has to be emptied frequently. This, of course, would vary depending on how much animal hair accumulates on ones floor.

I would heartily reccommend this device because of it's ease of use, lack of weight and powerful suction.

I love it and could sell them door to door they are so great. ... Read more

With the Platinum Force carpet extractor from Dirt Devil, you don't have to settle for cleaning just the surface of your carpet.Dirt Devil's design ensures that cleaning solution gets deep into thenap of the carpet and then back out just as thoroughly. The power ofthe machine lies in its two motorized brush heads--which rotate inopposite directions to clean carpet fibers on all sides--and itspowerful dual suction nozzles that get floors clean and dry quickly. The one-gallon capacity of the clean-water tank, combined with theseparate shampoo tank, means you don't have to refill often or guess atcorrect solution mixing. Plus, you can switch off the shampoo, for aplain water rinse, if you choose. The ample dirty-water tank isconveniently see-through and easy to carry and empty. Fingertipcontrols allow easy monitoring of power, solution release, and brushroll rotation. Dirt Devil's wishbone construction makes the machineeasy to maneuver, while the 25-foot power cord and removable tool caddygive you versatility and range. Converting to hose-cleaning is easy, thanks to a solution trigger on the hose handle and an upholsteryattachment. Quick-release cord hooks and a foot-pedal handle releaseadd to overall convenience. Though the Platinum Force is no runt--itsfootprint measures 12-by-19-inches-it's well worth its storage space.--Emily Bedard ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product
I purchased this item in August of 2002 to maintain the look of our plush carpeting. After the first use alone, I was amazed at the difference in the carpet. Even more amazing is how dirty the water was after use.

I feel the result is comparable to that of a professional carpet cleaning, but obviously takes longer than the pros. However, at least when you are done, you have something to show for your money (It will pay for itself in two carpet cleanings compared to a professional).

This definitely beats renting machines such as a "Rug Doctor." The tank sizes, cleaning solution tank, and dirty water tank are all comparable. However, the Dirt Devil has a rinse option and the changing of the water and cleaning solution is more user friendly. When I was done cleaning, it took less than five minutes to clean up. A rental machine is a hassle anyway with the paperwork, hauling to and from, and the limited time use. Using this comparison, the Dirt Devil is the best choice hands down.

Like any product, it isn't perfect....it is somewhat heavy and takes some strength (on plush carpets - it may be easier on different carpeting). After awhile, holding down the button for a long period of time can start to make your finger ache. It can get cumbersome changing the water if you plan on doing the entire carpet, but you would have this anyway if you were renting one. These are only minor issues and the benefit of the machine makes it well worth it.

I purchased mine right here at Amazon.com. Amazon is my recommendation and it only took a week to get. This isn't one of those items that you need to have the next day. It was packaged well and looked great out of the box.

Bottom line - it cleans the carpets great, the price is right, and you can't go wrong with the Dirt Devil name. I give it the highest recommendation.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Efficient, Well Designed Machine!
I am so glad that Amazon has customer reviews! The reviews on this machine really helped me make my decision to buy it:

My family has bought at least 2 carpet cleaners in the past 5 years and neither of them was able to clean the carpet let alone suction the dirty water efficiently. Because we had not found the right machine, we resorted to renting those big clunky ones from the supermarket- but not anymore!

I have never bought a large Dirt Devil product before this, only the small hand held type. But I am very, very pleased with this machine. It is very efficient and well designed! The power cord is long. One big plus was that the handle can drop 90 degrees(if you are too lazy to move the table, you can lower the handle as low as the floor). Even my vacuum cleaner can't do that! (I have a Eureka Whirlwind Vacuum, which is a really excellent vacuum cleaner and a must if you own animals. We have more than 5 cats in the house). But not even the vacuum can get everything, which is why you should buy this carpet cleaner.

One small draw back was the way the tools attach. Somehow the tool attachment does not lock very well (the prong is not long enough?) and sometimes falls off if you step too far away from the machine. However, the tools do work very well otherwise. The suction is strong and the hose is pretty long. I used it on my computer chair and it worked great! I love the tools!

This machine totally met my requirements. I had been researching the Hoover, but those machines cost twice as much! I highly recommend the Dirt Devil Platinum Force! I bought it here at Amazon and got free shipping. It came in the original Dirt Devil box and was packed well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Five Starts - For the Price!
Great product, excellent price. Not much else in this price range to rival the quality, features and performance of this Dirt Devil carpet cleaner.

Okay the name is kind of cheesy. My wife laughed out loud after the UPS guy dropped off the box. But after I cleaned our living room carpet last night it is I who have the last laugh, Ahahahahah!!!

Seriously, I believe one of the most under appreciated feature of this carpet cleaner is the separate soap tank and the ability to switch off the soap at the flick of a switch. So on one pass I am shampooing, and the next rinsing. No need to measure and mix the soap, just fill and use.

I was really looking to get a carpet steamer, but something that another reviewer mentioned made perfect sense: just fill the water tank with hot water, it'll be at least as hot as the water from the steamers.

The brush is soft, but definitely works. A few passes over tough stains and everything comes right out. About the only real complaint I have is that the suction doesn't seem to be all that great. I used 2 tanks of water but only extrated about 1/2 tank of it back, so that's a 25% retrieval ratio. I was hoping for closer to 50%. But the carpet is clean and I am really happy with the results. After one night of drying the carpet is only very slightly damp. It is a heavy piece of equipment and dragging it across carpet is definitely a chore.

5-0 out of 5 stars Platimum Force Carpet Cleaner
What a great machine. It was simple to operate and putting together was a breeze. However I had a hard time finding the bolts and nuts,( they are on the inside of the handle). Simple to use and got alot of dirt out of my carpet I was amazed. I ordered it from amazon got free shipping which was great. I placed my order on the 31st of May and they told me it would take til the 7th for it to come. It was sitting at my door on the 3rd. The directions were simple and it was easier to move around then a rental machine. I did an 18x24' area of carpet in less then an hour. I like the fact that it has separate switches for the shampoo and separate containers for each so you don't have to mix the shampoo. There are only two things that I may have issues with. I can't locate the shampoo that is recommended to use, except on the internet, ace hardware says they carry this product but went to three and they didn't have it. However it appears that I can have it shipped free to the ace close to my house. The other thing is the attachment hose for stairs and furniture, it is in the way, but can be removed completely. It will be stored. I was suprised how quiet the machine was. My vac is louder then this system. It really did a good job cleaning my carpet and picked up most of the water out of the carpet. Great job Royal on this product. I will recommend it.

1-0 out of 5 stars poor quality
We have had this unit for about one year. We have found the seal around the base of the water reservoir leaks/falls out. the tool/floor lever selector has worn out/broken. We need to wedge a spoon under the lever to keep the Vac from flipping to the tools position when trying to use as an upright. It is impossible to clean inside the components. Would not recommend. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent vacuum !
This is the best vacuum I've had yet for hard wood floors. I have 1 child, 2 cats ,a dog and a bird and it literally was a breeze on all of their mess, such as candy wrappers, hair, cat litter and seeds. We have a large townhouse and I could do the first-floor and steps without having to replug somewhere else. The dirt canister is larger than I thought it would be and the suction was great! It's also very easy to clean. It is lightweight and easy to handle and the micro-fresh filter only needs to be replaced 2 times a year ... (Now that makes me breathe easy). The only thing I can come up with that I would change on this vac is that it does not have a retractable cord.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hard surface solution
I have a million vacuums-- ok, exaggeration but I own about 5 different vaccuums because I keep buying them hoping the next one will work better. This time, I did a little more research and based on the reviews, I decided to go with this one. I checked it out at the store and was worried because it seemed a bit flimsy and light but bought it anyway since I was desperate for something to vacuum up my 1300 sq. ft. downstairs which is all hardwood and tile. The hard floor attachment does a great job of picking up all the dust, kitty litter, and white cat hair littering my floors (my floors are dark so you can see everything). The lightweight canister on wheels follows you easily with a little tug and the stick allows you to get underneath the furniture. The drawback to this vacuum is that the carpet attachment is useless, there's no place to store the cord (retractable would have been great) and there seems to be a little air leakage on the stick part of the vac. Other than that, if you're looking for something to use on hard surfaces, this vacuum is a great solution.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for hard wood floors and tile! (Not for carpet)
The perfect vacuum in this price range for hardwood floors and tile. Great design, long power cord, light (so it's easy to actually carry around, vs. dragging on the floor). Comes with handy attachments for getting into nooks and crannies.

Although I rated it 5 stars, this is NOT the vacuum for you if you have rugs or carpet. There is no "spinning brush" on this vacuum, so moving it across carpet is difficult and won't clean nearly as well as a vacuum designed for that purpose. Otherwise, I couldn't be happier with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for a house with hardwoods & stairs
My house has all hardwoods and 3 flights of stairs. This vacuum makes my life SO much easier when cleaning and going up/down stairs. The lightweight cannister makes it easy to carry it throughout the house, and the extra long hose makes it easy to NOT bend over much at all. Thrilled with this vacuum...just need to find refill filters!

4-0 out of 5 stars I clean homes for a living

2-0 out of 5 stars Not dependable
I've had this product for 4 months. At first it was great, plugging in to recharge constantly is a small inconvenience, but one I can live with. I couldn't find replacement pads in our local Walmart, and the cleaning solution is difficult to find as well.

Within two months the spray nozzle had broken off. I superglued it back on, the spray action wasn't as good but it still worked. Today a screw broke off - yes a screw. I'm not sure I can fix it...I'll be returning this item to the manufacturer and hope I can get some money back. I believe I'll be returning to brooms and swifter wet jets...those seem to work and are much less expensive.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good idea, not dependable though
I have two young kids and was thrilled to find a product that would help with the seemingly constant messes around our house...particularly in the kitchen. I especially liked the vacuum; it was pretty lightweight and easy to use. It was very effective at picking up general dirt and cat hair and was great for quick cleanups during the day. I was excited to find a product that I could fill with my own preferred cleaning solution (vinegar & water). Unfortunately, I only got to enjoy using it for a week before the sprayer gave out and I had to return it. I've had this happen within 6 months on the Swiffer Wetjet too, so I've given up on all of the spray mops for now. I decided that since I like the vacuum/dry sweeper combo so much that I'm opting for the plain Dirt Devil Sweeper Vac. I'll just use the Swiffer-type wet cloths with it.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is so handy!!
I have two little kids and it seems like my kitchen floor ALWAYS has crumbs on it. I do a lot of sweeping and Swiffering and it's definately NOT my favorite household chore. Recently our Swiffer Wetjet broke and I was looking for a replacement and I came across this. I got lucky and found it CHEAP on an Amazon Friday sale, so it ended up being no more expensive than a Swiffer replacement would have been.

So far I'm thrilled with it!! I love not having to get out my broom and sweep the room before I mop. The vaccuum gets into all the little nooks and crannies very easily and picks up everything. No more bending over with the broom and the dustpan!

The wet sprayer also works really well. The cleaner that it comes with smells great and I especially like that because this unit is heavier than a Swiffer (due to the vaccum), you don't have to push so hard to get the stubborn spots off the floor. It comes with two bottles of cleaner, but you could refill it with any cleaner. Unlike the Swiffer, you don't have to use their bottle. Just take the lid off the bottle that comes with it and pour in anything you want.

Overall, this product seems to be pretty sturdy and useful for the price. It's small, but powerful and I'm much more likely to keep my floor cleaned now that I can do it so easily!

I took off one star due to the only drawback-the fact that it has to be recharged often. That can be kind of a pain if you're ready to use it and it hasn't been charged. It would be nice if it had a removable battery pack or something that could be plugged in seperately, but it doesn't.

All in all, I this is worth the money!

4-0 out of 5 stars Where to find Replacement Sponges
I give this product a 4 starts. Battery Life isn't long, just put it on to charge before you put it away after each use should be fine. As for finding the replacement sponges for mopping...you can find them right here on Amazon.com if you can't find them in stores. Just type in Dirt Devil Mop Vac in the search block...should pull up the replacements, the cleaning solution and the Vac itself. Hope this is helpful to reviewers.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dissatisfaction with battery life
My husband purchased the Vac'N'Mop as a tool to minimize the amount of time that I spend cleaning kitchen and bathroom floors. At first the product seemed to be the answer to my cleaning needs. I charged the product as indicated for 24 hours before the first use and used the product without complaint. The product sat for a few days before the next use and when I attempted to use the vacuum, the battery died shortly after turning it on. I re-charged the battery and attempted to use the product again, only to find that within minutes the battery was dead again. I called customer service and was informed that the battery life is 9-13 minutes. Well I don't know about you, but 9-13 minutes is not enough time for me to vacuum the kitchen floors much less mop them. I will be returning the product and going back to the tried and true method of sweeping and them mopping until I find a product that will meet my requirements. ... Read more

Steam cleaners deliver some of the deepest cleaning available, but full-size models can be cumbersome beasts, hard to use and hard to store. This Easy Steamer carpet extractor from Dirt Devil, on the other hand, has the power of steam without the bulk, mess, or weight of larger models. It's also great for quick pickup of liquid spills. With an 11-inch cleaning path and sturdy casters, the machine is easy to use and maneuver both forward and backward. Plus, the vacuum side is fast and powerful, so floors are quicker to clean and quicker to dry. The steam system includes two 1-gallon reservoirs, one for the cleaning solution and one for the dirty water (conveniently transparent, so you can see the grime get sucked up). Both reservoirs have simple release mechanisms and convenient carrying handles. Dirt Devil's motorized brush rollergently agitates carpet for deep cleaning, while a solution trigger on the angled handle lets you control distribution. Helpful features include a carrying handle, dual cord hooks with quick release, and simple power and handle controls. 5-0 out of 5 stars Light and easy to use
This is my first time using a carpet shampooer. It gets the job done and very easy to clean the machine. I help with saving stray cats and get them homes. I have to clean the porch and shampoo the rugs every week. I was amazed the first time. I was alittle concerned cause the machine wasnt big, heavy or bulky. I really didnt think it would get the job done. It did! If your looking to simplify cleaning carpets this is for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't pass on this one. Great price, Great cleaner.
I own rental property and bought a top of the line carpet cleaner. During three years of use pieces broke off, suction hoses got clogged and then finally the main hose snapped in half. It was loud and heavy to lug. After reading reviews, I bought the Dirt Devil today and have just finished cleaning 4 rooms of carpet. I am so happy. I paid a third of what the top of the line Bissell model cost me. It is quieter, lighter to carry around and cleans even better. Yes, you have to empty the fill tank frequently, but that is better than lugging all that heavy water around with every push. Besides it is so simple to empty, it takes only a few seconds. This machine was engineered beautifully. There are no wasted parts to break down, plus it cleans up easily. From someone who has been cleaning rental units for over 15 years, I'm content with this cleaner.

5-0 out of 5 stars I like it!!
I just bought one of these since the price was so good and my heavily pet stained carpets needed cleaning yet again -- I have two dogs including a bull-mastiff with a very sensitive tummy and four cats and three grandchildren, so my carpets take a beating! I have to deep clean them at least twice a year and I was not looking forward to once again renting a carpet cleaner and lugging the thing home and back to the store within twenty-four hours! So I decided to take a chance and buy this one -- the price was right and I figured if I can even get two uses out of it, it will pay for itself. I assembled it myself in just a couple of minutes, it was extremely easy to assemble. It was also very easy to use -- the water reservoir just pops in and out easily. The dirty water reservoir comes out very easily and is very easy to clean. I am very impressed with this machine -- the water in the reservoir actually lasted longer than the rentals, it did not "soak" my carpets like the rentals do, and it vacuumed up the water much better than the rentals --my carpets were not soaking wet when I was done -- they were almost dry. The water in the dirty water reservoir was almost black -- and my carpets were very clean and fresh smelling!! I'm really very pleased with this purchase -- this carpet cleaner is lightweight and easy to use and does a fantastic job! I think it did just as good a job as the rentals and maybe even a little better! I highly recommend this cleaner for people who need to clean their carpets frequently.

3-0 out of 5 stars This product works great but doesn't last!
I bought this product approximately 1 year ago and on the first use the plastic hose attachment broke. I contacted Dirt Devil and they sent me a replacement for free. After the 3rd use it started leaking water. I took it in and had that fixed. Then approximately 2 months ago the motor completely blew up. I had the motor replaced and everything fixed, and now for some reason the water will not dispense out from the tank to clean the carpet. This product works wonderfully...when it works! Maybe I got a lemon, but when I buy a new one I will probably go with another brand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product + good value
I bought this steam cleaner a few weeks ago and I must say that I am very happy with it. The steam cleaner was easy to assemble (just a few screws) and simple to use. I didn't experience any problems with it when cleaning the whole house. Only drawback was that I couldn't clean the stairs. But overall, the Dirt Devil steam cleaner is an exceptional product and affordable. ... Read more

With the power of an upright in a lightweight, compact design, the hand vac's 4 amp motor provides powerful suction, and its revolving brush aids deep carpet cleaning. For those tough-to-reach spots, such as under car seats or between couch cushions, the hand vac has a built-in stretch hose and a crevice tool (ready to use with Dirt Devil accessories). The two speeds allow you to vary your suction, but be aware that the lower speed is very gentle and the higher speed is loud. The 20-foot cord ensures a large cleaning radius, and a cord strap provides tidy storage. This hand vac is not recommended for vacuuming long strands of human hair--they tend to get caught in the revolving brush. Be sure you fill out and mail in the warranty card included in the package so you can take advantage of Dirt Devil's two-year limited warranty. --Ariel Meadow Stallings ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Too noisy!
Don't waste your money on this machine. I picks up ok but is too loud. I bought it to vacuum the stairs in my house and it does a poor job. There is only suction in the middle and doesn't pick up anything on the edges.

1-0 out of 5 stars No power
This vacuum has no power and it's really dusty. The air that circulates out of it smells and it doesnt trap the dust. The cord is a little heavy duty for this small vacuum and you have to buy the attachments. Mine didnt come with attachments so I had to buy a set. It's a little heavy on the handle side and it makes it uncomfortable to hold and use.

4-0 out of 5 stars I like mine although...
It is a little heavy and DOES get hot fast. BUT.. I have hard woods and several perisan rugs and throws around, and for getting cat hair (and litter) out of those, it works wonders! Also, it sucks the dirt out of corners like a dream, just make sure you don't let the bag get overfilled! My very old unit recently died, and I am at my wits end until I can get a new one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little tool
I've owned this hand vac for a couple of months now. I have a hoover windtunnel, that I love, but the hose doesn't suck up animal hair off furniture, and has too much suction to vacuum plush bathroom rugs. I read the reviews AFTER I had already purchased it, but had not received it yet. So needless to say, I was a little upset to read what others had to say. I expected to hate this little vacuum and to never use it. Well...I use it every other day! I love it!! I vacuum my furniture mainly, due to having pets (that have couch priviledges). It sucks up every hair. I tested it on the kitchen floor to see if it just pushed debris around like one of the other reviews claimed--False. I also have no problems wrapping the cord. I personally don't have a problem with the weight. Overall, I love this hand vac and highly, highly, recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally found another
I have owned the same hand vac Dirt Devil for over 10 years. I have searched & searched for another>>>>here it is.Yes its loud, no it doesn't clean cars well(Go to a car wash), but this is the handiest little tool I have in my home. I will always buy DIRT DEVIL :) ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Dangerously sucky
I hate this vacuum. I used it for about 15 minutes today and its loud high frequency screaming made my ears ring horribly afterwards, which is absolutely frightening. Emptying it is messy and dusty. The hose comes apart during use, although it is still brand new.

It seems to have adequate power and the bagless idea was good, but needs tweaking to keep it from being so messy, and no one should market a product for household use that is so loud. Next time I vacuum I will either be using a new vacuum or I'll be wearing earplugs.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Design
I have had this vacum for about 6 months now. It has great suction but very poor design. The cord is attached to the bottom half of the sweeper and I've run it over several times even when holding the cord in one hand while sweeping. The cord was severed once. It is much too powerful to sweep heavy duty scatter rugs. I've torn several expensive rugs. The body of it is high off the ground and doesn't fit under my kitchen cabinets (between floor and cabient is about 6 inches). It is so heavy to push even with the self-propelled on that the plastic handle broke off and I have it duct-taped on now.

Bottom Line - I do not recommend this sweeper!

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor design, poor Customer Service
While this vacuum may have adequate suction it, like most Dirt Devil uprights, is very poorly designed. The biggest issue is the design of the handheld hose; it comes out the top of the unit so the vacuum constantly falls over when you try to use it mine finally broke. Checkout the owners manual, they have some kludgey way to loop the hose down and hook it to the base, as if that is practical. The lock that holds the vacuum upright wore out twice in four years, the beater brush wore out, the attachments are cheaply made. It does not work on bare floors and cannot even pick up a small piece of gravel due to the design of the brush/pickup. I contacted Dirt Devil about my problems and they said "we don't deal with problems, your only recourse is where you bought it". You may want to check out Bissel (they are inexpensive and they can't be worse).

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Pleased with this Sucker!
I am from a family of 8 kids and an average of 20 animals all living in one house at a time. Needless to say, we have gone through many vacuums; inexpensive and expensive. When I got my own apt. I needed something affordable and powerful (I have 5 pets and a husband to clean after)!
I love this vacuum. I had no problem with the canister issue that I have read about by others. I have two bedrooms, a living room, and a dining room to vacuum and I can do it usually without having to empty the canister until the end. As far as I am concerned, I am glad to fill the canister, because it means that the dirt, hair, dust, and etc. is no longer laying on my floor! Even if I have to empty every once in a while in the middle of cleaning, at least I don't have to worry about running out of bags in the middle of cleaning!
I haven't had a problem with the belt yet. I do believe that if you are having a problem with the belt burning so quickly, it could be the result of the height setting being set too low. This would cause constant added resistance to the belt causing the belt to overheat and melt.
The auto-drive did take some getting used to, but I like it now. It makes the vacuum feel a little lighter than it is while your vacuuming. The good thing is the feature can be turned off if you can not get used to it.
This is the best vacuum I have ever used on pet hair. The hand tool works wonderfully, but it is operated with a very small belt that I have not had to change yet. I have never had a hand tool that gets pet hair out of upholstery; I usually use a wet cloth of some type, but I no longer have to do that.
I am very impressed with everything about the vacuum. I have since referred it to my mother and my grandmother and they both bought one today so we will see if they encounter any problems with theirs.
I hope that helps. Good luck with whichever you choose!

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst vacuum ever!
I recently purchased this vacuum and was completely disappointed. It was so loud that it actually made my ears ring for over half an hour after I was done vacuuming, it tore one of my rugs, AND when I accidentally ran over the power cord (as I had done hundreds of times with previous vacuums) it actually TORE the cord, rendering it unsafe and unusable. I will never buy another Dirt Devil product and will be writing the company asking for compensation for my torn carpeting. I am disgusted by this product! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Seemed Like A Good Idea At the Time
Having replaced most of the carpet in our house with tile, we wanted a vacuum that would do well on hard floors, and the salesman at the vacuum store recommended this one. We've had it a bit over a year, and are now looking for something else.

Pros:
* It's reasonably lightweight
* The suction is better than you might expect from a stick vac
* The "Flex-edge" nozzle is good for getting into corners and tight spots (but needs to be more flexible)
* Hose attachment is easy to use
* Can lie very close to the floor, making for easy access under some furniture

Cons:
* The bagless system is a royal pain. Emptying the dirt canister and cleaning the filter are MESSY jobs, and doing so inside the house can leave you with almost as much dirt and debris on the floor and in the air as before you vacuumed
* The power cord is too short
* The whole unit tips over very easily. It can't stand on its own, but there is nothing from which to hang it either
* The wheels come off easily. They can be popped right back on, but they come off repeatedly
* The on/off switch is in an inconvenient, awkward location
* The vents located at the front of the unit blow debris EVERYWHERE. Just as you head toward that dust bunny, the front vents will blow it up into the air or elsewhere in the room.

I cannot recommend this unit. My advice: keep looking.

3-0 out of 5 stars Broke into pieces!
This vacuum worked great for about a year and then literally broke into two pieces.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT
I thought of titling my review "This vacuum cleaner sucks," but then I realized that would be a lie, because, in fact, this vacuum doesn't suck anything. More appropriate title:

"THIS PRODUCT BLOWS."

And I mean that literally. The exhaust fan from the unit blast to smithereens anything you might think of vacuuming before you can get there.

Other horrific product defects:

- The unit does not stand up on its own.
- The hose attachment is so short that you have to hold the unit in one hand, and the hose in the other, meanwhile trying not to blow your dirt pile into the air with the exhaust vents.
- The suction is too weak to work well on carpet.
- The whole unit is flimsy and cheaply constructed. I estimate it will completely fall apart in a year.

In summary:

Do not, under any circumstances buy this product. If I could have given it negative stars, I would have. One star is too many for this embarrassingly ineffective vacuum cleaner.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible Horrible Horrible
I bought this broom vac hoping to take care of my small apartment in manhattan without having to store a huge unit. I have owned other dirt devils and was very happy. This one is HORRIBLE. Even on hardwood floors it spits the dust out all over the place. And on Rugs? FORGET IT. It is really really bad. And I only have small pile rugs that aren't plush at all.

Skip this one and get another. I will have to now.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cheap Good Effective
I brought this Vac a couple of days back and must say its very effective. I use it on hardwood floor and on doormats the results are very good. The head is smartly designed and does a good job cleaning corners. Hose holding locks are nicely designed. Handles pretty good...In short I couldnt find a better vac for the given price ... A heavy-duty machine for serious traffic and large homes, the Dirt Devil Cruiser has a stylish retro look backed by thoroughly up-to-date features. Though rather weighty for an upright, the vacuum has an aluminum body, making it lighter than comparable models, and is self-propelling to boot, reducing cleaning effort to a minimum. Powerful, rechargeable, and ready for action, the Quick Power cordless hand vacuum from Dirt Devil is a handy tool in the workshop, on the boat, or around the house. 4-0 out of 5 stars Good but not very cost effective
This is a good vacuum with good suction and considerably good run time. Only disadvantages are the suction area and requirement to change filters..This is not a bagless one for those who need bagless

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a great Product!
This was the first Cordless Hand Vac we purchased and to our surprise we found it to be very handy and lightwieght, has good suction power and decent battery charge life. It does not have a blower and am not sure of the life of air filter. Overall we are satisfied to have this product specially for the price we got it for.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything you want in a hand vac
It is powerful (little loud and it does blow from the side vents quite strong). It has a little built in brush which is great for sofas. The basket is small and needs to be emptied frequently to get the full power of the vac. I wish it had a stick to I didn't have to bend the whole time I was using it. When it's clean it will pick up the scattered sand from the cat box which many others don't do and it does a great job on dog hair. It has a little extension nozzle for getting under the frig and in the corners. I use this and the Eureka Boss stick vac, with rotating brush for carpets, daily and only need to use my full size vacuum a couple times a month. It's definitely worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome hand vac
This hand vac is great! It has perfect suction and a good amount of run time. The suction hole is a good size and the debris cup is large, easy to dump and rinsable. Filters are super easy to find and order at dirtdevil.com. The quick flip crevice tool is very handy. This vacuum is very nice. I've owned it a month and use it often to clean up after my kids. It works beautifully. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Dirt Devil M084100 Power Stick
I can't believe that I paid $49.99 for this crap. Amazon is far cheaper at $39.99. Anyway, this thing is just too damn loud. If you think a lion roar is loud, this thing is at least ten times louder. But I will admit that this vac is extremely powerful for this size. It suckz up just about anything on the floor while it wildly goes left and right uncontrollably. If you were deaf, I would recommend this product to you. If you do have a pair of ears, please don't buy it for your next-door neighbor's sake.

5-0 out of 5 stars Woohoo Power!
I live in a dorm room, therefore I have very thin carpet in a very small living space. Nonetheless, I would still like it to be clean. So, I came to dilemma of whether to buy a full size vacuum or go for something smaller. My family has always bought Dirt Devils - from a full size vacuum down to the small handheld Scorpion, and we've always had excellent results. Great power, long life, sturdy, etc.

So, in my quest for the perfect vacuum, I found the Power Stick. What caught my eye was the specified use for dorm rooms. I figured the price was right, free shipping, and ordered it right away.

Dang is this vacuum powerful! It's as powerful as a full-size vac, yet only half the size and weight. Granted it is really loud, but I don't mind that as it takes no time whatsoever to get hte vacuuming done. I got my entire room done in less than a minute, but my floor is extremely clean. I couldn't believe how much it picked up! There's a huge mouse-sized hair ball in the cup, and I didn't even see hair on the carpet! So, although I was a bit anxious about not having a roller bar, I know it's not going to be a problem because of the powerful suction. The cup is easy to remove and empty, and it even has a filter in the cup to help. The cord's length is perfect for my room, but I think it would be just fine for any room. It's also very maneuverable, which makes up for the lack of attachments. I was able to get the nozzle in all cracks and corners, and it was incredibly easy to turn around while vacuuming

The only problems I have with the vacuum (but not enough for me to give it 4 stars) is its noise and the weight. The weight is good for vacuuming as you don't have to put much muscle into pushing it around. But, as far as standing it up in a corner, I foresee it falling. If you hang it up on a door with the hook that shouldn't be a problem, but if you're going to stand it up, I recommend standing it near a wall. It's a lot of weight on the bottom and just the stick on top. It can stand up on its own, but it's also easy to knock down.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME
I just got one of these today. I got mine on sale but even at full price it is well worth it. I have hardwood floors with area rugs (and a messy 2 year old) and it didnt miss a beat going from the floor to the rug, even with all the little crumbs my little one leaves behind. 5 stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Give it a try!
After searching for the perfect stick vac for my hardwood floors, I finally found this one. Everyone mentions that it is extremely loud; however, it is no louder than my regular vacuum. It will pick up anything in its path and has much more power than the other 2 stick vacs I tried and returned. It has a small head, so you can manuever it around where you need to go. This is a must have for hardwood and tile!!

3-0 out of 5 stars buy ear plugs!
This is really a great machine; a must have if you have young children or pets. It's very powerful and gets the job done. I have ceramic tile, wood, and oriental rugs; it's perfect for cleaning all those surfaces. Also great for quick pickups on wall to wall. It's light weight, easy to use, and stands up on its own, unlike some other stick vacs I looked at. I would give it 5 stars, but the noise is so deafening, I cannot recommend this product without a warning. ... Read more

I admit that I only bought this item for house cleaning but I have had no problems with it. I had a lady bugs all over my cottage and I brought it there and it sucked them all up without difficulty. The same can be said of dust, spider webs, dirt, and just about everything else on the floor. I thought it a good, but I admit to having no industrial purposes for it.

1-0 out of 5 stars "Power" "Reach" - Ha!
I'm really sorry I purchased this vacuum. Yes, it has a beater bar, but the lightest pressure (such as gravity) will keep the bar from spinning. Whatever dirt it picks up often falls back out of the vacuum head/attachment head, so you do twice the vacuuming for the same effect. This is a very poor product and isn't worth any amount of money. My 10 year old Dirt Devil with the worn motor and clumsy attachments does a better job.

One positive thing - the box looks nice.

1-0 out of 5 stars Should have read the reviews first
I made the mistake of buying this without reading the reviews first. I bought this because I wanted a hand vac with a revolving brush to vacuum my stairs. The problem is the brush stops revolving when it comes in contact with the carpet. What's the point? I took it back to the store the next day.

2-0 out of 5 stars Original is better
After having the Original Dirt Devil Hand Vac for over 10 years it finally gave out. I purchased the Power Reach and it has good power but we need the extension of the flexible hose and extension wands! The Power Reach has no accessories! And the old extension tools don't fit. I wouldn't call it "reach" at all! If you need to get up high I wouldn't purchase this one. I am returning it and getting the original.

1-0 out of 5 stars I wouldn't call it Power
At first I thought it was a fluke that the first one I bought broke the first time I used it. After about 10 seconds of use and a complete lock up, I opened it up and found that one of the plastic wheels that hold the belt had slit in two. After calling the number on the machine to talk to someone about parts and found out that I would have to drive to the next town to have someone merely look at it, I took it back and exchanged for another one. Well, this one is still in one piece, but I would not call it power. The "Powerful revolving brush" Slows down very significatly when it comes in contact with furniture and I didn't even bother to try it on carpet. And this is just when laying the machine roller down on the sofa with no added pressure from my hand. I had owned the dirt devil classic hand vac for years and found it very powerful and very useful. I multiple cats and multiple dogs so hair is always a problem. I thought replaceing the classic vac that is 5+ years old would be an improvement but after this... I would rather have the old one. I wouldn't recommend this one. It is a good idea of the detachable head, but it doesn't make up for the lack of power. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Handy for quick pickups all over the house, this Dirt Devil rechargeable powered stick vacuum is an intermediate step between a simple sweeper and a full-on upright. Shaped with a broad flat head, the machine features two battery-powered brushrolls that snag particles, debris, and dirt, and spin them into the onboard dirt catchers. Since the rolls are positioned on the front and back of the machine and spin in opposite directions, efficient cleaning takes place both coming and going. The vacuum is designed for carpets as well as bare floors, though it is most efficient on low-nap and indoor-outdoor style surfaces. Operation is straightforward and simple, and emptying the dirt catchers takes just a few seconds. Recharged with a standard AC adapter, the unit is made of high-impact plastic in black and silver for a sleek, contemporary look. Minimal assembly is required. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars no smell has to mean it is getting the job done right
I purchased this about three weeks ago along with a new puppy. Those of you who know about potty training a puppy can imagine how happy I am to have the spot scrubber. I use it so much I don't even unplug it from the wall. I only have two complaints for the spot scrubber though. First of all, the cleaning solution tank does not hold enough. I can fill it 4 times before the dirty water creeps just under the full line in the dirty water tank. My solution to this problem is to just tote one of those generic household cleaner spray bottles with the cleaning water mixture in it around with the spot scrubber. My second complaint is that the exhaust smells just like whatever you just vaccumed up. So, if you don't clean the dirty water tank EVERY TIME you use it :( , well let's just say it's not aromatherapy.
As far as performance, it is very powerful because it is a plug in model versus a cordless. Every spot I have cleaned on my carpet turned out SO clean I have had to go over that entire area around it to prevent it from looking, well, spotted. The true test of how well it works comes from how your house smells when you walk in the front door. I have a friend who has a different hand held carpet cleaner and a small dog, and her house doesn't smell as clean as she would like. She pointed out how good my house smelled when she came over which obviously made me very happy. So, I would highly recommend this hand vac/carpet cleaner because no smell has to mean it is getting the job done right the first time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for spots and pet stains
Just bought this today and attacked all of the stains caused by our new puppy over the past two weeks. In 99% of the cases, the stains are completely gone now! If you used it before the stain has soaked in for so long, I'm sure it would work even better. I give it 4 out of 5 stars simply because the button for the water takes a bit too much pushing to work. I used to have the Dirt Devil that sells for $29.99 and this is WAY better. Spend the extra few bucks!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money
I purchased this when I moved into my apartment and had my grandchildren around alot. Most of the time, the spray button sticks, so I can't spray solution on the spot to be cleaned. Then the brushes would stop rotating if I pushed down on the carpet. I always clean the dirty water tank after using (even if it is only one small spot) because it will stink up the apartment if I don't. I have finally given up and gone to a large carpet cleaner, scrub brush and a bottle of Fantasik to clean up the spots left by leaking juice cups and lunches. Takes less time and energy.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Spot Scrubber--My Puppies New Best Friend
I use this bad boy all the time to clean up pet spots. It works really well. I had read some of the reviews. It sounds like some folks need to read the instruction manual--you know, the paper inside the box that explains how to use the machine... It works well, I've had to clean up some HUGE spots and it does the job. I would recommend this to anyone.

2-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't clean so well
this machine looks real cute, but doesn't do such a great job cleaning. the bristles on the brush aren't very firm and they seem to push whatever you are really trying to clean, further into your carpet, leaving you to wonder if that spot is really clean or just brushed down further into the carpet. when packing up a donations box before moving, this is one thing that went in it. ...
