Dangerously powerful...
I have been intrigued by the info-mercials for similar models, and decided to take a chance with this low-priced unit. Wow, did I do well! I have a heavily shedding dog, and was looking for something to help me clean without hauling out my big rig. The box states that it has "33% more suction than the Euro-Pro Shark-Vac" and I was sceptical. But when I turned the unit on, It had so much power that it literally twisted, hard, in my hand before it "stabilized". I love it! Picture a motor that to me seems roughly five times more powerful than a "blow dry" hair-dryer. The thing sounds like it's going to blast off, and it's only the size of a small loaf of bread! I bought it mostly so that I could do my stairs, and find that I am yanking out loose fibers in the corners, an OK thing for my older carpet, I've found. Forget about other units with rotary brushes which I've owned in the past, with this much power, you just don't need them. I do believe that this Dirt Devil is possibly mimicking a design of some other company but as far as I'm concerned, they may have the best one on the market.

Best Hand Vac Ever
Let me just say that this is really the most powerful hand vac that I have ever used. Have you ever owned a "Dustbuster" or other similiar hand vac? Ever feel like the motors spinning and making noise, but all you're doing is pushing the dust around?

Not with this monster. The motor is so powerful that if you hold your arm out straight out in front of you and twist your wrist while holding the vacuum, you can feel it "pushing" back against you! It's able to REALLY pick stuff up, unlike those old fashioned wimpy hand vacs.

This is a corded vac, but the cord is so long that I really don't mind. Plus, there is no way you can get this kind of power from a cordless vac. Ergonomically, the football shape/size and the shoulder strap make this very easy to carry around while using the 2 foot extension tube to get to those corners and edges. The brush attachment is perfect for my couch, little area rugs, and bath mats. No more hair in the bathroom!

The only downside is that you need to be careful which way you hold the vac if you're not using the extension tube. If you're not careful, you can inadvertantly direct the exhaust air (with your leg or body) towards the stuff you're trying to suck up.

A lot of power for a small machine
This is a great small vac, lots of power, and a good machine. However, keep in mind that this is an inexpensive vacuum, it will not replace your upright.

It does, however, have a lot of pluses:

1. Suction power. This is really a big plus, and I never fail to be amazed that such a small lightweight machine can really have such strong suction.

2. This is very lightweight. I find myself using this machine constantly for small messes when I don't want to drag out my heavy upright. You do have to plug it in, but I haven't found a cordless yet that really works, so I am not comparing it to a cordless vac.

3. When using the crevice attachment, you can get really get in nooks and cranny that NO OTHER vacuum can reach.

Minuses:

1. The attachments are not enough - I find I can't really do my steps because it lacks the right attachment for that. (I can vacuum using the small attachment, but it takes a little too long)

2. It's a little hard to open the vac to empty the dirt compartment, you have to hold it down in just the right place, etc. I have finally figured out how to do it (you have to line it up exactly so), but I consider that a small price to pay for a really good cheap vac.

3. It IS corded (you have to plug it in), but you knew that.

Basically, I find myself using this vac all the time, I wish I can say the same for my big heavy upright. I even vacuumed my car more than once (using a grounded extension cord) and I was amazed how easy it was to use and how well it cleaned. One tip - I find that the key to maintaining really great suction is to constantly empty it - I kept forgetting as I watched whole pretzels disappearing inside with ease - that it's really a small vacuum.

Five Stars!
Where has the Dirt Devil Scorpion been all my life? This little vacuum has made my life so much easier! I have a parrot who just loves to throw seeds and grit all over the floor, only when you lug out the vacuum and clean it up, he throws more out (spiteful little bugger!). Seeing as the Scorpion is so small, I just keep it out by his cage and vacuum at will. And let me tell you that the suction on this little thing is amazing! It may just be better than my full size vacuum. My bird still throws things around, but now it is so much easier to clean up after him.

The Scorpion is also great for vacuuming my stairs. It weighs so little and the cord is so long, it's easy to get my whole staircase done in only a few minutes. Doing the stairs had always been on my least favorite chore list, but it's so easy now with the Scorpion that I don't complain about it anymore.

I agree with other reviewers that the strap doesn't really seem to work like they planned it to, but that is only a minor complaint and doesn't take away from my five star rating.

Great product
This thing really gets everything. I have it next to my rabbit cages, and it really cleans the excess shavings and "other" things that get bounced out of the cages easily.
Makes my life a lot easier, and I don't need to lug out the large vacuum everyday for the job.

Simply the Best
This incredible little hand vac truly does what it's supposed to do and more. I believe its simple design, rotating brush and large dirt carrying capacity, make it as powerful as a minature upright. I bought one in 1997 and it's still going strong. I just bought two more in case they discontinue this model. The real test I gave this vac was to vacuum white cat hair off a dark blue bedspread. It passed the test with a grade of A+. It's easy to use, not too noisy and very durable. How lucky can you get?

best purchase!
...It is one of the best purchases I've ever made! After my SO brought home two shedding-machine kitties, my furniture was covered in a layer of hair that my big vaccuum couldn't handle. I got the Dirt Devil, and the rotating brush pulled up every last strand of it! I bought it in December and my 7-yr old daughter, whose chore had been to vaccuum the couch, promptly deemed it her "favorite Christmas present ever". She loves using it, and I never have to prompt her to clean.

I previously had an old Dustbuster, and it turned me off to hand-vacs. I purchased this one only because I found it on sale. I've never regretted it-- it makes an easy job out of even the hairiest messes.

No suction!
Ok, it's cute, but I can't get good suction out of mine. I'm talking like CRUMBS. Let alone spider webs, etc. Maybe I have a lemon, but I'm not happy with it. Also the hose always comes unplugged! I'm going looking for a new handheld !

Dirt Devil is an Angel!
My main reason for purchasing the Dirt Devil Platinum Force was to remove unwanted cat hair from every single piece of furniture in my house.

The dirt devil came through! It removed the pet hair plus all the other dust particles i didn't even know were there.

I would recommend this to anyone! .. Very, very powerful vacuum.

One warning: It is very loud. But that's because of the power.

The Super Sucker
I really don't know what some people are talking about between one motor or two....I don't even know how to find that out....All I know is, this thing is freaking amazing! It picks up everything from dog hair, to packing peanuts, to paper clips.....Some people say it's loud. They're right...It is....But who cares. Really....That's a ridiculous aspect to focus on when you're looking for something that cleans......This is BY FAR the best handheld I have ever owned. used, or seen....It's stylish, strong, and small.....The only drawback is there is no retactable cord....... You will be amazed how far these things have come since the 80s....Believe it or not, we are replacing our upright vaccuum with a new one, b/c we found that this Dirt Devil is more powerful.

Power Nozzle stopped working
I used this vacuum about 6 times on furniture to pick up the cat hair. It worked well until, just like another reviewer said, the power nozzle stopped rotating. Now it's practically worthless.

Does not work well on hard floors
The vents are the sides near the front so dirt is blown around before the vac gets a chance to suck it up. It does work well in carpeted areas.

It worked great - picked up all kinds of dog hair. Then the "power" nozzle stopped rotating. I thought it was all the dog hair. I took the nozzle apart (quite a job). The problem is that the small plastic gear on the end of the armiture that turns the belt is deformed. this should not have happened - I hardly used it. Vision canister is wonderful!
We've always owned uprights. This time I went searching on the internet for one -- looked at Eureka and Hoover, but settled on this wonderful canister for our house instead. It's got it all for less money: powerful (12 amps), bagless (you can see the dirt getting sucked in), lightwieight, quiet, hepa filter, quality build, variable speed control, retracting cord, works on carpet (powered brush) and hard floors, great price. It looks cool too. We opened it and immediately vacuumed the house and furniture, etc. We pulled up much more animal hair and misc. fluffies than our old powered eurka upright. I was sold right off when I could vacuum under the couch and bed -- without even moving them! It goes where no upright can go and is much lighter. It a very powerful 12 amp unit with lots of attachments right in the base of the unit (not on the wand like some Eureka's). We got lots of tools with it, including an extra hard floor tool. The powered brush head is nice because it has a separate foot button (separate from main power) so you can quickly turn the brush off and on as needed. Great product!!

SUPER VACUUM
Believe it or not, but this is the 3rd Dirt Devil 082600 Vision Canister Vac I have purchased thru Amazon!!! So, I must be 100% satisfied with it.It is a super vac, great power,easy to change the floor attachment to the carpet attachment and easy to empty the bagless canister. My husband even commented how good a vac it is, so I bought one for the garage and basement for him !!!! It is a heavy unit so I am leaving one up and on the main level of our home. It has a long cord so using it on the steps is not a problem.I love it and recommend to all!! For the price it is the best vacuum on the market today, believe me, I have tried the other brands and this is the best!!

Not as good as it looks
This was a great vacuum for the first month. It is true that the spinning brush helps pick up dirt. But what they don't tell you is that after a few uses it is virtually impossible to remove the dirt that gets embedded in the brush which hampers its use. It is very noisy so you'll need a pair of ear plugs. Also, the only way to do corners is to remove the motorized sweeper portion. This requires removing a plug that is an awkward place. Wear gloves when you do this or you will draw blood from your nuckles as I've done. The attachments are useless so you will need to use the hose without any attachments to get into corners and baseboards. The motorized sweeper doesn't work on bare floors. You can turn off the motor but it doesn't pick up much. When the motor is on, I end up chasing dust across the floor. The dust always wins. I have to use the hose without any attachments on the floor. A real back breaker. Also, you want to be very careful when emptying the canister. Dust will fly everywhere because not everything is trapped in the compartment. Needless to say, I'm looking for a new vacuum cleaner.

Miserable former owner a Dirt Devil piece of junk
WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! DIRT DEVIL DOES NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY ON THESE MACHINES. I bought my machine in January of this year. In June I think it was I vacuumed one day and the thing worked just fine, the next day when I pressed the power button it whirred as long as I held the button in but would not stay locked into "on." I called Dirt Devil and found out that there was only one repair center that was any where close to me and that it was an hour's drive in the opposite direction from where I normally do business. The thing sat around for a few months until I could get it to the repair center. When I went to pick the machine up I was presented with a bill for $39.95 for "cleaning" the switch. The repair center owner explained that if the switch had been defective the repair would have been covered under warranty but since it was merely dirty I had to pay for it. There is nothing in the owner's manual referencing a need to clean the switch and the trouble shooting guide in the reference manual does not mention a dirty switch as a possible reason for the machine to not run. I left the machine at the repair center and called Dirt Devil. From several conversations with them I gather that they don't consider it a design or manufacturing defect when the machine is operated according to instructions (I was very careful to always clean out the dust cup whenever it looked like it had any accumulation of dirt) and manages to suck enough dirt up into its inner workings to kill it. They were way more interested in telling me that if I didn't pay the owner of the repair shop that he would sell my machine. They did finally offer me the option of going for the two hour round trip drive to go pick the thing up and take it to a new repair center that has opened up and get a second opinion there or to pay to send it in to Dirt Devil. Since I have owned serveral vacuum cleaners that have lasted ten years or more each without ever quitting and since I have had such a miserable time so far with this thing I've decided I'm much better off without any of Dirt Devil's junk cluttering up my closet. I would highly recommend that you look elsewhere for a vacuum cleaner.

Nice looking but not so easy to use
The overall design of this vaccuum looks great, but not so easy to use. With little attachments provided, all I can use it for is vaccuuming the carpet.
