Amazon.com Review

Isn't it fun to go to Mongolian grills and watch them prepare stir-fry right in front of you ? Now you can provide your guests with that same excitement with this 1,500-watt electric wok. Simply put it on your table, let the guests chose their favorite vegetables, meats, and tofu, and then get the dinner party livened up with some quick wokking right there on the spot. Although the handles and base are heat-resistant, you'll probably want to set the wok on a cutting board to protect your tabletop.

The adjustable temperature settings give precise control over cooking--select a high temperature for lightning-quick stir fries or the lower "warm" setting for serving. The wok features a support ledge for warming while stir-frying, and the nonstick interior is just right for cooking veggies and meats with less oil. Completely immersible once the temperature control is removed, the wok is dishwasher-safe for super-quick cleanup. --Ariel Meadow Stallings ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Disgrace to a fine Chinese cooking tool
You never ever use an electric wok to cook Chinese food. It is all about the fire and the intensity of the heat. Only people that use this are people whom have no idea what they're doing. Do yourself a favor and purchase a real wok.

5-0 out of 5 stars Replaced after 25 years
I finally had to replace my West Bend Electic Wok after 25 hard years of use. The wok still worked but the electric cord gave out. I could replace the cord for about $20 but I got to looking at what was a beautiful red wok and it was now faded and the interior was beginning to stick. I figured they may have made a few improvements in that time, so opted to by a new one. It was well worth it. Heats up much faster, cools down quicker, larger cooking surface. Since I have a pantry, it stored in the same space as before. I like the metal lid. It is lighter than my first one so I can lift it with one hand and spoon contents out with the other. The only problem I have is seeing the temperature gauge because of the electrical outlet location in my kitchen. The gauge ends up on the left, under the handle.

5-0 out of 5 stars West Bend Wok
After reading reviews on the wok's available on Amazon[.com], I decided on this Wok due to the ability to put it in the dishwasher. Turns out it is a bit to large to put in my dishwasher, but it is very easy to hand clean. The non-stick surface has lasted, but I am careful to only use plasic or wood, and I wash it with a cloth and soap. It gets to temperature quickly during cooking, the only 'complaint' I have is the simmer cycles (not a constant heat, but on and off). I purchased some Thai cook books, (Real Thai, and Thailand The Beautiful Cook Book) and was amazed with the correct ingredients and a Wok, how easy it is to prepare my favorite food. The difference the wok made- I was able to cook at the correct temperatures. My stove BTU is apparently quite low, it took forever to 'sizzle' so the food turned to mush before it was cooked. I now use the wok for anything I want to cook fast and/or warm up.

4-0 out of 5 stars a great wok
i like this wok very much.it is elaborate and works well. i always use it when i cook hot pot. the only trouble thing is that washing isn't convenient.i will give 5 stars if the wok can be removed from the base .

5-0 out of 5 stars great and convenient cooking tool for anyone
I have been wanting a good wok for a very long time, however until recently I have been preparing all of my stir fry dishes on top of the stove in a pan. I've hinted around to my husband on numerous occasion's my desire for a wok. This Christmas my husband surprised me with a wok as a gift. I must say that I really did try to hold out until Christmas, but the anticipation got the best me and I am so glad it did. the West Bend 79586-6 quart electric wok is more than I expected. It heats quickly, and the cooking temperatures/ heating control are a breeze. I have so many different appliances in my home, and this is by far my best. I simply love it. Thank You ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Griddle
I use it every weekend for either pancakes or "freedom" toast and have nothing but good things to say. It heats evenly and is easy to use and clean. I would definitely recommend this griddle!

2-0 out of 5 stars warp speed- beam it back/ Scotty
Xmas 2003, used 5 times, warped, legs do not touch evenly,
grease does not drain into channel,
buyer beware, going to swap out one at Target, as to not pay shipping back to WestBend, You get what you pay for, thank you China!

1-0 out of 5 stars DONT LIKE THIS PRODUCT
I have had lots of griddles and have worn them out using them but this one was the worst. I actually returned one because it had a bad connection between the cord and the griddle and would not stay on, it would lose connection as I was cooking on it and i would have half done pancakes on it.

So I returned it thinking it was a defective one well the second one was worse, the connection between the cord and the griddle started to smoke and caught on fire, good thing I was right there when it happened.

Since I threw the box away I can not return it, so to me I might as well had taken 40.00 and just threw it out the window cause that is basically what I did. The thing is still new, doesnt even have a scratch on it, that is how little I was able to use it. Then when it caught on fire I quit using it.

So if you own one of these please dont leave it unattended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Griddle lovers celebrate....
Hi Everyone,
I love my new griddle. Tho not the one I originally wanted I must say I am VERY pleased with this one from West Bend. It has plenty of cooking room for a variety of items to cook at once. The heat seems to be very evenly distributed, and cleanup is a breeze. Great for seasoned cooks as well as new cooks. I would recommend this as a great gift for yourself, or for a bride to be starting out.
Peace to all, Mary

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice griddle
This griddle is wonderful for pancakes and hamburgers. But it's a bit messy with the hamburgers. The grease does flow into the grease channel, but it's a tight fit to get in there to clean it. I use it for pancakes and it's heaven to make 8 at a time. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

When the stove-top skillet isn't big enough or a recipe calls for a long simmering, place this electric skillet on the counter and plug it right into the wall. This skillet also frees up the stove for other uses, especially if you're making time-consuming recipes, such as chicken and rice or scalloped potatoes. The plug-in heat-control dial can be set as low as "warm" or as high as 425 degrees Fahrenheit. When done cooking, remove the dial and put both the skillet and lid into the dishwasher for an easy cleaning. Holds 6 to 8 servings. --Dana Van Nest ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Dishwasher Safe?
I like this item alot and this is the second one I've owned. Don't put the lid in the dishwasher because it takes the finish off. It happened on both of mine, thanks to my roomate. The screws that hold the handles come loose frequently and the aluminum threads on the base strip VERY easily.

3-0 out of 5 stars So-So
Only problem with this skillet is that the lid does not properly fit. I also wish it had a steam vent on the lid.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Kitchen Gadget I Have!!
Bought this from Amazon.com and am so glad I did. Unit is very light. Heating element heats very very fast. Cleaning is very quick and easy. The oblong shape is really great for smaller spaces. I use this practically every day. With smaller amounts of larger amounts of food, it is great. Pancakes, stirfrys, steaks, bacon, chicken, omlets - this great little unit does it all. Very happy with this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for frying or slow cooking!
We got this item as a Christmas gift. Wife and I love it. The non stick surface is really NON STICK! Fries chicken to perfection, cooks a slow cooking meal like stew with baking powder dumplings great and simple things like pork chops with onions turn out very well!
Even heat, roomy for a lot of food, accurate temperature controls and easy cleaning make this a great extra frying pan!
Remember--don't use a lot of oil for frying or sauteeing anything. You don't need too for this is non stick and browns better with less--not more oil. If you want a deep fryer get a deep fryer, not an electric fry pan.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't count on it for good ole fried chicken
Although this is a fine product to use instead of a nonstick pan on the stove top don't confuse it for an electric fry pan. I made a deal with my mom, I would get her a new electric fry pan to replace hers of 40 years and she would make me a nice fried chicken and dumpling dinner. The nonstick surface does not brown like the old fry pans did. It is very light weight. So much so that I was completely surprised upon opening it and I remembered right away that old saying about "if a pan is too light it's not a good pan". Sadly after spending $50.00 on this item I'm out shopping again for, yup, a "real" electric fry pan. Lower your expectations and you'll be happy with this. If you are expecting to brown foods or cook like mom did, it won't happen in this electric skillet (electric fry pan it is not). ... Read more

Chili, soups, stews, and roasts slowly cook to juicy perfection in this five-quart crockery cooker. Round in shape, both the cooker and the removable stoneware crock are decorated with a green-and-purple grapevine motif. The crock can be filled with food the night before, refrigerated with the lid on, and placed inside the cooker base (not preheated) the next morning before heading off to work. Three heat settings-keep warm, low, and high-allow flexibility in serving and cooking, and the cooker automatically adjusts to keep the temperature steady. For safety, an operating light lets the user know when the cooker is turned on and rubber feet keep the crock stable. Handles and the lid knob are heat-resistant.

While safe for use in the microwave and dishwasher, the durable stoneware crock is not intended for use in a conventional oven, on top of a burner, under a broiler, or in a freezer. The glass lid, handy for viewing contents during cooking, is not microwave-safe but can be cleaned in a dishwasher. Assembled with lid on, the cooker measures 11 by 14 inches; the interior of just the crock measures 4-1/2 by 9-1/2 inches. 5-0 out of 5 stars great item
I use the elec wok for all kinds of cooking. Its not just for stir fry. I have done roasts/turkey and other meats plus potatoes and veagies. The one I have is 17 years old and well used. I am looking to buy another one as soon as I can find one close to home. I would recomend this product to any one who loves to cook and eat great food.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Electric Wok Ever Made!
I have had this wok for a few years. It continues to perform in the best quality!

I prefer an electric wok because I prefer to cook on a surface larger than my stove. I use this wok to cook at the table - the wok stir-fries vegetables hot and fresh and crisp-tender. Anyone who has been to a restaurant like Benihana appreciates an at-table cooking experience! The wok has a temperature range from 150 to 400 degrees and it adjusts temperature quickly, heating and cooling very fast. It cooks beef, fish, and chicken to tender perfection. The handles of the wok are cool-touch/no potholders needed!

The non-stick surface is a definite bonus. You can stir-fry vegetables with no fat, or a light coating of a butter flavor spray, or a misting of olive oil. It also enables you to add a minimum amount of more expensive oils like sesame. You get that tremendous flavor without excessive oiliness!

Think you will only use this wok for Asian cuisine? Think again! I have used this wok to make scrambled eggs for a crowd (it heats them quickly and they are so moist and tender), beef stroganoff, and a multitude of vegetarian dishes. The only thing I don't recommend it for is deep-fat frying. The wok is made of a thin layer of metal that is great for stir fry cooking but I find a chicken fryer with a heavier layer of steel is more suitable for deep-fat frying.

The steamer rack is great for making chinese dumplings. I've also used it to moisten day-old rolls!

I've taken this wok to church suppers and work potluck lunches. You can plug it in like a crock pot on the lowest setting (Warm/Simmer) and it will keep your food at an even temperature. I've made Barbecue Butterflied Mini Smoked Sausages in it and everyone raves about how good they taste and that they're nice and warm. The lid makes an attractive presentation, and has a cool-touch handle. The best feature about this wok is that it is fully immersible. Just remove the heating plug (the whole unit unplugs with one pull) and immerse and wash. The lid and the wok can both go into the dishwasher, but since it's nonstick it cleans up easily with a sponge and soapy water. It's a bit big to fully immerse in a small kitchen sink, but you can wipe it down quickly.

I love this wok. Do yourself a favor and buy it-it's well worth the price! ... Read more

I had been looking to replace my old skillet for a long time but couldn't exactly find what I was looking for, which was a sturdy, compact, well constructed skillet with a metal, not plastic lid. This skillet really fits the bill. Sleek, compact design, aluminum lid, high quality, non-stick finish and vented lid, that can also prop up with an extremely easy to read temperature dial. I have been using this skillet extensively. It is great for eggs, french toast, pancakes, browing meat, making a small roast and veggies, etc. The uses are endless. You will find yourself using this very versatile pan often. If you are looking for a high quality skillet for a great value, you can't go wrong with this one. I would highly recommend it! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Why is This Still On The Market
This product is a Class Action Lawsuit wanna-be --- read up on how to treat burn injuries!

1-0 out of 5 stars Burned more than once!
I own this fry pan. I am looking for a new one. This one is hard to use. The glass top has glass handles on the sides of the lid. When the pan is hot the lid and handles are very hot. You have to use pot holders on each side of the lid to lift it off. Steam escapes as you lift it off, and you rarely escape getting burned. I would give it no stars if that was an option.

2-0 out of 5 stars Consult the burn unit at your local hospital
The skillet itself is fine, the nonstick does a good job and clean up is easy. The glass cover, however, is a serious oversight in design. Though its a novel idea, being able to serve or microwave/conventional oven heat in the cover, there is simply no way to safely lift the cover from the skillet. The manufacturer should have designed a knob on the top of the cover rather than the two narrow and burning hot "lips" that barely protrude from the sides. There are safer choices!

2-0 out of 5 stars Too hot to handle!
If you are going to use this item, please read the instruction booklet completely. Not only (according to the instructions) is the glass cover prone to breaking, shattering, cracking, etc., handling it while cooking appears to be an adventure all by itself. You can burn youself a number of ways from lifting the cover without a great deal of protection, to just tilting it the wrong way which may release hot steam on your body (it's all there in the book.) It looks good, is pleanty big and has an easy to use heating control switch (it appears). I didn't try it, though. After reading the instructions and noting the "caution" inscription on both handles of the cover, I quickly repackaged it and returned it. No adventurer, I.

1-0 out of 5 stars Warning Serious Design Flaw Can Cause Injury
When I received this skillet as a gift, I thought the glass cover that doubled as a casserole dish was a great idea. Unfortunately, there is no way for steam to escape while you cook with the lid on until you lift it up. The only way to lift it is by the sides -- two glass lips on the edge of the lid. Unless you are wearing two oven mitts that fully cover your hands, you run the risk of getting seriously burned by the escaping steam. I have a fairly serious burn from lifting the lid using hot pads. I even lifted the lid slightly with a fork to allow the steam to escape before I grasped it with the hot pads -- unfortunately it was not enough to prevent the injury. If you purchase this item, I would recommend using it without the lid. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great slow coooker!
Just bought this a month ago, and absolutely love it! It is easy to store, easy to clean, and works perfectly. It looks small at first, but all of my usual crock pot meals have fit fine. This is a wonderful slow cooker, it is worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars NICE LITTLE WORKHORSE!
I own a slightly older version of this slow cooker and it's been a faithful little workhorse in my kitchen for almost six years now. I bought it when I lived in an OLD apartment with an ancient oven I didn't trust. All my cooking was done in the little slow cooker and toaster oven. I still have it and use it and assure you it will serve you well. I'm married now and got a big ceramic slow cooker for a wedding gift, and guess which one I use more? Yep, the little West Bend!
The little West Bend does stews and pot roasts beautifully and even larger quantities of can soup.
Feel confident buying it!

2-0 out of 5 stars Rinky-dink
What can I say-- this was one of the few times I felt like I made a mistake in buying something on Amazon without seeing it in person first. It just was not what I was expecting in a slow cooker. The pot is extremely lightweight and shoddy-feeling, almost like a toy pot. It has no automatic shut-off or warm-mode, no timing function. The controls look very cheap. While I was intrigued by the "use the base as a griddle" feature, I realize that I would probably never really use it. For those with limited arm strength, this might be a good fit, but otherwise I'd advise passing it by.

3-0 out of 5 stars slow cooker review
I purchased this because it was multifunctional but have found the base really does not work well as a griddle. The center gets hot enough but the edges remain too cool and therefore it cooks unevenly. It would work for one item at a time but you really can't cook 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, etc. as illustrated on the box. The non stick surface also scratches very easily and you really have to be careful with it. I do think it has many good features but the griddle isn't one of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ol' Faithful
As another reviewer, we have owned a previous version of this model for around 15-yrs. and have gotten more than our money's worth out of it. A little over a year ago, we purchased a Rival "Crock-Pot" and have had to send it back for cracking handles. It's been over a month and we still haven't heard from Rival but we are still using our WestBend Slo-Cooker. I forgot we even had it buy my wife brought it out of storage. Still working great. In all truthfulness, I do like Rival's design but their quality has gone way downhill. ... Read more

Off to a potluck, party, school event, or picnic and assigned to bring a hot dish? Slow cook stew, pot roast, sweet-and-sour chicken, or countless other dishes (33 recipes included) while doing other things. Snap the plastic cover on the cooking pot, strap the cooker into the insulated tote, and zip it up, then grab the Velcro-closure handles and head off, knowing your food will stay warm for two hours. Or take the power base along (it also fits in the tote) and rewarm later. At meal time, use the glass casserole cover as a serving dish. Like the cooking pot, the power base is nonstick, and it doubles as a griddle. The cooking pot and glass cover are safe on the stovetop and in the oven. The glass and plastic covers and the pot are dishwasher-safe. That's a lot of convenience packed into a package measuring only 14-1/2 by 9-1/2 by 8 inches. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't be any better...
We bought this for my Mother-In-Law for Mother's Day because she had a West Bend Slow Cooker just like this one for a long time (I think she said 15-20 years) & somehow she managed to break the knob off. Although the knob had broken off she continued to use it because she just could part with it. Since it was so old & she broke the knob off she asked her husband to get her one last year for Christmas & he couldn't find anything even similiar in the stores. Since we are constantly buying stuff online she asked us to keep an eye out for one during the next year & if we could find one to keep it for her as a Christmas gift for this year. She was so excited when we gave this to her for Mother's Day. The insulated tote & the lid just made it all the more better for her. She loves how it so easy to clean & carry with her now. I think if we hadn't found this for her she'd still be using the one with the broken knob 20 years from now. She just loves it that much. We enjoy it too because she makes us BBQ Ribs for us all the time. :)

5-0 out of 5 stars perfect size, easy cleanup
Almost never used my crock pot because it is too bulky and the crock is really difficult to clean. It is also too big to go in the refrigerator for preparation the night before.

This 4 qt cooker is a perfect size for everything short of a banquet, extremely easy cleanup and compact to store. The glass top can be flipped over to store on top of the pan, and the whole set fits inside a lower cabinet. In one year it got more use than 25 years for the crock pot.

The tote is a great bonus. If you like slow-cooker recipes, but hate using your slow-cooker, here is the appliance you need.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why didn't I get one sooner?
I thought slow-cookers were a thing of the past, boy was I wrong. They go perfectly with today's hectic lifestyle.
I picked the West Bend after checking out the ratings here on Amazon and have not been disappointed! I love the oblong shape, perfect for roasts, meatloaf and even desserts. The heating element/griddle is seperate which makes the pan easier to clean. Also I can use the pan directly on the stove to do my browning and easily transfer to the base and that's it, no extra mess. The glass cover can double as a serving dish.
My only negative was how thin/light the pan seemed but I am overlooking it because all the recipes I prepared turned out just fine. Not to mention, I like the little "extras" like the plastic cover and insulating tote which I am looking forward to using when we go barbecue.
Just get this with a couple of the slow-cooker cookbooks and your friends and family will love you.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT PRODUCT-COULDN'T LIVE WITHOUT IT!!!
THE RIVAL SLOW COOKER IS GREAT. IT HAS MANY USES. I USE IT AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK. NOTHING STICKS IN THE POT. THE CARRY BAG IS GREAT FOR TRANSPORTING.

4-0 out of 5 stars Love The Clow Cooker!!!
I received this as a gift from a family member and I love it. I didn't have very much success using the base as a griddle but I only tried it once because it is kind of small. I have had the cooker for around three years now and it has held up very well. I would reccommend this product to anyone. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars For basic fondue, you can't beat this pot
What more could the average family want? You get an electric, thermostatically controlled pot with 8 forks, and a splatter ring with fork notches for fried fondue.

PROS:
-electric with thermostat
-8 forks
-teflon coating makes it easy to clean

CONS:
-be careful with the cord on your table - this is not a limitation of this particular pot, but of any electric pot
-with four people cooking meat in an oil fondue, you have to be careful about the oil temperature. The pot isn't powerful enough to cook 8 pieces of meat at a time for an entire meal - space them out a little.

There really isn't anything to complain about. This pot is perfect and a good value for the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great - cleans easy
I purchased The Entertainer 3-Quart Electric Fondue Pot for a birthday present for my fiancée. We enjoy fondueing (fonduing? How do you spell that anyway?) - it always reminds me of going to my grandparents house in the 70's . Having an electric pot makes a lot of difference in cooking time and quality though. This pot will heat up 3 quarts of broth to a boil in practically no time. Also, you can cook more than two forks worth of food at a time and not have to wait 20 minutes for your chicken to cook all the way. It is easy to clean too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Due Fun with Fondue
I just recently purchased this fondue set and am very pleased with the results. Its clearance price definitely makes the purchase worthwhile. The pot heated up with surprising speed. The leftover cheese just slid off from the teflon coating with very little effort. My only dislikes were that first, the electrical cord is very short and required an extension cable to reach the outlet under the kitchen table and secondly, the overall product feels a little flimsy, but makes it very light and easy to transport. Finding this fondue set with 8 forks and a selectable electric heat guage AND at an affordable price makes this set a good deal.

4-0 out of 5 stars Instant Romance, Fondue for Two
Using the fondue pot for 1-3 people is ideal, anything more than that and you'd be waiting too long for dinner. I've used it for oil and cheese fondues and both have worked wonderfully. I only changed the amount of oil that is suggested, I thought it was not enough so I increased it, but it can splatter at high tempertures if u do this. As someone else commented, the forks could be improved, they are a little bit flimsy and your food can slide off of them easily at times. Over all though, I am satisfied with this unit and don't regret buying it.

4-0 out of 5 stars won't burn down the house
Stick to electric fondue. The last time I used one that burns alchohol, the alchohol dripped invisibly down the side of the burner, and when I lit it the fire trailed from the burner to the tablecloth and thru to the table. I was left with a conversation piece--instead of an oak kitchen table, I had what looked like forest fire rubble made into furniture. But this fondue, while electric, is not as well constructed as I'd like. ... Read more
