Amazon.com Review

This is a single measuring cup that will replace the others floating around your kitchen--even the teaspoons! Cone-shaped, with a sturdy base and tight-fitting lid, this little beaker is perfect for those recipes with odd amounts, such as "two cups plus one tablespoon." There's a lip around the top edge that acts beautifully as a spout--no dripping when pouring liquids, from water to beaten egg yolks. Measurements include pints, cups, ounces, ml/ccm, tablespoons, and teaspoons, and all are written clearly in black print. The lid fits snugly enough that you can snap it on and shake the beaker for easy mixing of ingredients. --Jill Lightner ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Practically perfect
Here's a wonderful little tool for the cook: a beaker with half a dozen different measuring scales so that you can easily prepare any recipe, measure out odd volumes such as one cup plus one teaspoon (frankly I hate recipes which require that much precision, but hey, at least I have an easy way to make them now!) and even measure out ingredients in advance, cover and set them aside to use later.

The Emsa Perfect Beaker is perfect in all ways but one: It's light plastic and it gets scuffed up quite easily. Plastic also seems to hang on to fats and oils more tenaciously than does glass or metal, so that clean up is a bit harder. Still, it's light, easy to use and doesn't take up much space in the cabinet. I can live with a few scuffs and a little extra dishwashing liquid for clean-up. Try it; you'll love it.

[Edited to add: I have to concur with the reviewer who wished this beaker was made from Pyrex. Though it would be substantially heavier, I might still have it. Scuffed and weakened by constant use, it finally cracked when I used it to measure hot (not boiling) water. I will get another, but because I'll have to be more cautious with it, I'm not as wholly sold on it as I once was. No points taken away, though; it's still a great idea.]

4-0 out of 5 stars It's not perfect, but it's a great must-have measuring tool!
I love my measuring beaker! Ok, I read the reviews and yes, there are some annoyances to this measuring beaker that I agree with, but it's still a great kitchen tool to have. In fact, owning more than one may be ideal!

The way I prefer to rate it: Five stars on usability and usefulness. Four stars on overall design.

The first time I layed my eyes on the beaker (received it as a gift), I was very skeptical on it's ability to last longer than a week in my home. That was two years ago. It's gone through a lot of use, abuse, and just about lives in the dishwasher. (Yes, the fill up of water in the hollow base is quite annoying, but a quick dump and rinse in the sink cures that fast enough.) The markings are still bright and clear, the plastic doesn't show any wear, and it hasn't warped in the dishwasher or with hot liquids.

PROS: Lightweight, accurate, easy to read, easy to use, easy to clean (it's dishwasher safe!). It's quite sturdy despite it's looks. Doesn't easily tip. Can measure up to two cups.

Cons: It doesn't have a pouring spout for liquids (although it hasn't been a severe problem with me). The hollow base fills with dirty dishwasher water when clean in the dishwasher (but it cleans out quickly). Looks flimsy (but it's not). Cap can be easily misplaced (but who really uses it anyway?)

As you can see, the cons are not convincing enough for me to not own this beaker. It's a great measuring tool that quickly becomes a must have favorite in your kitchen!

I hope you enjoy it as much as many other here have as well.

2-0 out of 5 stars too fragile for daily use.
At first this seams like a great measuring cup. It can measure in just about every measurement and is more accurate for small measurements. The dissadvantages however show up pretty quickly. It says dishwasher safe but the dishwasher will quickly scratch it and it will appear very cloudy. It is extremly light and you will drop it sometime as a result. This thing is more fragile than glass and the base especially can break rather easily as the quality of the plastic leaves something to be desired. There is not spout and pouring sucks. In reality if it wasn't made from cheap plastic this would be just about the best measuring glass possible.

5-0 out of 5 stars inexpensive, but incredibly useful!
I got this after seeing AB (aka Alton Brown) use it on just about every other "Good Eats" episode, and it definitely lives up to my expectations.

When I first opened it, I was put off a bit by the plastic construction. But after using it for several months, I am happy to report that I love it! For measuring liquids, it is always the first thing I reach for. The lid also allows it to make a great emulsion-maker - salad dressings, vinnaigrettes, etc. Just toss all your ingredients in, slap the lid on, and shake away! Love it.

I can't argue with some of the comments from other reviewers - water can pool under the base when drying upside down, and there isn't a pouring spout - but is that enough for me to change my opinion? Absolutely not. It does what it does, and it does it really well.

And heck, if it does only last 5 years, at these prices, I can certainly afford to by a replacement. And I will.

5-0 out of 5 stars Emsa Beaker
I use it everyday, my wife is grabbing it more than her 3 other measuring cups and its as if I can't bake bread without it. it has become that much a part of my routine. The cone shape lets you create a particularly nice Vortex when stirring a liquid. I like to place my water, yeast and spoon of sugar in it then stir (like a boy scout trying to light a fire with a wood-drill) with my wood or splastic spoon...handle between both hand flats, then back and forth. This mixes the yeast thouroughly in seconds. After a couple of minutes proofing, I add a half cup of flour to begin a little starter or pre-ferment for the bread. Try this in a Pyrex and you'll splash all over the table and yourself. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Devoted tea drinkers are as regimented about their tea preparation as the most wired cappuccino drinkers. This attractive teapot helps even those who follow a strictly scientific method to simplify the tea-making process: Thanks to a built-in tea caddy, you can use loose tea leaves, allowing precise adjustment of a tea's strength without the messy straining process. When preparing a strong tea, remember not to fill the caddy to capacity as tea leaves expand when steeping. The caddy has an attached arm for lowering it into the water for brewing; just lifted the caddy out when the tea has reached the desired strength. The 7-cup teapot is made of heat-resistant glass. A tip from traditional tea drinkers: Always warm the pot with hot water before brewing your tea. --Laura Cuthbert ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars POT, not KETTLE, Ignore the "No Stars" review!
The person who gave the "No Stars" review obviously misunderstood the funadamental nature of this product (i.e., was clueless.) It would burn, of course, if you put it on the stove. Most other teapots would likewise burn, crack, or otherwise be severely damaged if you placed them on the stove to heat water. TEAPOTS DO NO GO ON THE STOVE! Tea kettles go on the stove. A sane person pours water from a kettle into a teapot to make one's tea. (Hello...?)

1-0 out of 5 stars hate it
do not like the design of this pot...steam escapes from the lid while pouring and burns flesh if not careful

5-0 out of 5 stars A Super Teapot!
I loved this teapot. My husband bought it for me and it broke before our move. I thought that I'd never find it again. However he found it for me here on Amazon.com as a surprise for Christmas! I like it because I can use loose tea and tea bags in the tea caddy. My tea comes out perfect everytime too. I can also get several servings out of each pot. It's very easy to use and clean up is rather quick. I'd recommend this for yourself or as a gift!

5-0 out of 5 stars Tea has never tasted so good!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best on the Market
This is the best salad spinner on the market. I own a small cafe where we serve a lot of salads. The commercial salad spinners are entirely too heavy and too large. I have tried other brands but they don't hold up. This one has drainage in the bottom so you can leave it in the sink and don't have to go to the extra step to dump out the basket and then the water out of the bottom. I had a similar one when we first started but had been unable to find it until I looked on Amazon!!! THANKS!! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

A couple of these pitchers would be a perfect accessory for a long brunch or other party where beverages need to stay fresh for hours or longer. I poured steaming hot coffee into this pot one evening, and at noon the next day a cup poured from the pitcher was still hot. Its "press and pour" design is also a major improvement over many carafe designs--just press a button and pour the right amount of coffee, with no drips. The lid screws on with one twist, and seals neatly into place, which is one reason why drinks stay hot so long. And, beyond its functionality, this pitcher's sparkly silver-tone finish and graceful shape look good on the table. One warning: the glass liner may break if dropped and should be handled with some care. --Maria Dolan ... Read more

Keep any beverage hot or cold for 14 to 16 hours--and when you're ready for a refill, this sturdy little pot has a most convenient lever for easy pouring. The solid base, lightweight construction, and large handle make it perfect for family-friendly gatherings--it's easy even for elementary-schoolers to handle. The plain, glossy exterior makes wiping it down a cinch. (As with all vacuum pots, you won't want to put it in the dishwasher.) The asbestos-free glass interior makes it a bit on the fragile side, but the sturdy plastic exterior is solid enough that it can take some bouncing around. Whether you're keeping lemonade icy cold or coffee piping hot, this carafe is a handy appliance for patio or home office use. --Jill Lightner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Keeps coffee HOT
Fantastic product. Well designed for use & cleaning. Does not drip. Most importantly it really keeps coffee and beverages HOT! We use a french press for coffee & immediately transfer to this carafe. It keeps it very hot for 4-5 hours & very warm for 12 hours! The vacuum seal seems to be the secret! Amazing! Highly recommend!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice
Don't let your coffee brew all day...this carafe is fantastic. Guests love the design. In the past, though, I have found that most carafes need to be replaced after a year or two or constant use. I'll wait until then to give it a 5 star. ... Read more

This vacuum-insulated carafe maintains and serves any hot or cold beverage at the proper temperature, and does so in high style. Press your thumb against a lever atop the handle and the lid (with rubber stopper) swings up to allow pouring. The chrome-plated exterior reflects candlelight or sunlight, adding flair to the dining table. Rinsing the carafe's glass interior with warm water is usually the only cleaning necessary, but swirling a teaspoon of mild detergent diluted in warm water around with a soft sponge or cloth removes stains. The exterior merely needs wiping with a damp cloth to maintain its shine. --Fred Brack ... Read more

The Salad Shower Plus is a washing machine for lettuce. With its special flow-through design, water runs through the spinner lid and out the bottom. Pull the cord and the basket revolves in both directions, rinsing away the dirt and taking away the drudgery of washing lettuce and other leafy greens. The white plastic basket removes from the clear spinner bowl to double as a colander for general washing. There's also a smaller basket for rinsing berries, herbs, and other tender produce that benefits from a gentler spinning action. --Lynne Sampson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I shower my salad
Unlike other salad spinners, this one allows you to run water through the spinner and wash and extract the sand and dirt out through the bottom and into the sink. We grow lettuce in our summer garden and it is full of dirt and slugs and bugs, but our Frieling washer/dryer gets rid of all that easily. Then a quick pull and the salad is dry. A smaller basket insert allows you to wash and dry delicate items such as mushrooms and strawberries.

5-0 out of 5 stars Consumer Reports was right
Based on a test in consumer reports (which rated the Frieling Salad washer & dryer as their top choice! We bought it and have to say: THEY ARE RIGHT ! This is the best way to wash and dry your salad in one smooth step. No need to wash the salad leaf by leaf, no need to spin it in one of those closed spinners that do not get up to speed, no need to empty the bowl of the accumulated water, no need to spin again etc. This one does the job in no time at all! The Frieling unit gets more water out that others we have used. If you use one of those crank or push models your salad is still wet and your salad dressing will run off. As far as I know, it's the only one with a second insert basket. I use it to wash and dry herbs and berries all the time.

1-0 out of 5 stars Get the Oxo Spinner
The yo-yo like string that causes the unit to spin is not that user friendly and my string broke after only 3 or 4 uses. I am returning it and getting the Oxo spinner; I have two friends with those and they love them. I got this one because it claims to wash the produce too. I didn't think the washing feature was that great; it would be easier to use a colander and wash with the kitchen sink sprayer.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not for counter-tops
CAUTION: This salad spinner/washer HAS to be used either in the sink, or, with a drip pan beneath it. There are little holes all around the base of the bowl holding the basket, so the water can run freely out. There is no way to stop the water running out. So, if you, like I, prefer to spin the salad on the counter top -- this isn't the salad spinner for you.

NOTE: Try the OXO. I bought the OXO when I discovered that the EMSA one had the holes in the bowl. Now, I have a wonderful SALAD WASHER (EMSA) and a superb SALAD SPINNER (OXO).

5-0 out of 5 stars Emsa Salad Spinner
I have owned an Emsa Salad Spinner for some time. My daughter first discovered this item in one of the Gourmet Stores in Florida and I tried it and had to have one. This is a wonderful item, since you don't have to worry to wash your salad fixings just put it in the spinner and it does all the work. I am presently visiting my daughter and put the lid on the hot stove which bent the lid, so I am replacing it since it is an item nobody should be without. ... Read more
