The Worst Hunk of Plastic I ever bought
Purchased the Fantom last year. The first week the hose came right out of the bottom. Had to use glue to keep it in place and working. The hunk of plastic that keeps the cord wound up cracked right off. The wheel one day decided to fall off. The vacuum uses belts constantly. I replaced 4 belts in one year. Customer service is a joke. They will look at the vacuum for $30.00, which you must enclose.You must send them the vacuum and pay the $30.00 in shipping. <br /> The vacuum tips over all the time, and it is very NOISY.You run over the cord continuously. This is a horrible, vacuum cleaner. A big waste of money for a bagless.

Don't waste your money!
The first time I used the vacuum, it was great. Each subsequent use has been an exercise in frustration. The suction is minimal, it' kicks up dust and it cuts off after only a few minutes. A total waste of money. Don't do it!

Out of all the vacuums out there, I BOUGHT THE WORSE!
What a cheap hunk of plastic! Within 2 days of purchase my hose ripped from the bottom. Had to super glue it into place. Called customer service, and had to remit $30.00 for them to just look at it, in addition to paying the shipping charges of the vacuum which would come to about $30.00. Did not send it. The vacuum uses belts constantly and they are not cheap. The plastic attachment for where the cord goes, cracked off, and the wheel just came off. The hose has a knot in it, and the stupid thing continually falls over. It is very, very, noisy, and awful heavy to push. The light went out in 2 weeks. I would never have bought this vacuum if I read about it. Please don't waste your money. <br /> Finally bought a Hoover and I listened to Good Housekeeping.<br /> The HOOVER works great!

So far fantastic
I bought the Phantom Twister today despite the sad reviews on this site, only because I have a Phantom Thunder that I absolutely LOVE. (The Thunder suddenly got very noisy and hard to push, though it still vacuums great.) I decided to do a test. I vacuumed the livingroom with my new Twister, and emptied the canister, which I found to be easy, despite the abundance of dog and cat hair in it.(2 cats, a batch of kittens and a dog that perpetually sheds!) I then pulled out my Thunder and vacuumed after the Twister. To my surprise and delight there was only the barest amount of dust in the bottom of my Thunder!!! I am almost as happy with this Twister as I was with the Thunder! I found the Twister very comfortable to push around. I am very pleased. I rated it a 4 because it is heavy (but no heavier than the Thunder was), and the hose for the attachments seems a little shorter than what I'm used to. So far, I would highly recommend this vacuum to anyone.

A dangerous flaw in the design
This product has a dangerous flaw in the design. Where the base connects to the upright there is an electrical connection. That connection arcs and causes the unit to cut in and out. Eventually the connection melts and unit will not run. There is a definite fire hazard with this product. Additionally with Fantom's warranty policy you have to ship the unit to them at your cost and include $19.99 for return shipping. ... Read more

The only thing from the new Fantoms worth purchasing
I have owned a Fantom Thunder for the past 5 years and continue to love it. When I saw that Fantom had a hand vac, I was skeptical. It was a Euro-Pro product, and I had read many reviews saying that Euro-Pro products are POS's. I bought it from Best Buy in November, and I was satisfied at how well it cleaned. I had no pieces falling off or electrical problems, but I exchanged it for a King of the Hill Season 2. Then I read the reviews for this product and found they were mostly 4 or 5 star, then I decided that I wanted to get it again. Best Buy had one left in the box on clearance for 21.99, I bought it along with the 2 year replacement to avoid the horrible customer service, plus if it breaks, I'll get my money back. This machine did great in my car, and it picks up pet hair well. I give this 4 stars because the Tapclean filter is a pain to clean and I don't like that it's in the dust cup, but I found that most other hand vacs have a filter in the cup. If Euro-Pro made this with the cyclonic technology and filtering system the original Fantoms had, I would give it 5 stars.

I love this vacuum!
I use the Fantom to vacuum my cars. I am absolutely amazed how much dirt it picks up from a car carpet that doesn't look all that dirty. I've had no problem with "parts falling off", and find the filter and dirt trap reasonably easy to service - it beats the heck out of dealing with bags! I love the hose attachment, and found it very easy to swap between the powered brush and the hose. Is it loud? Yes, but that's due to the powerful suction - it takes a lot of air movement to pick up dirt like this little jewel does. At 750 watts (1.0 hp) I would definitely recommend it for small to medium jobs (cars and upholstery, for example). But for bigger jobs, (a set of carpeted stairs, for example), use a Kenmore with a 5.4 horse motor and a power head attachment. It's all about having the right tool for the job, and for small vacuuming jobs I don't think there's any better tool than the Fantom 430.

Very Satisfied
I agree with the last review. The first two reviewers almost convinced me not to get this unit but it was one of the few still out there with a powered brush. DO NOT GET AN AIR DRIVEN BRUSH UNIT! They stop rotating as soon as you contact something. I took the plunge and bought it (though not thru amazon, I found it locally on sale).

The filter is easy to clean. A bit messier than bags but you don't have to keep replacing it either. As for the suction, it has as much as any other decent hand vac if the filter is cleaned frequently. Does a great job getting pet hair off the furniture and cleaning up our occassional spills. I would recommend it.

Powerful if high maintenance
I read the other reviews and didn't find the complaints familiar. I bought the FM430 and have used it for almost a year (I have a big dog who sheds) and found it useful for the stairs and the upholstery (and my bedcover, or should I say, my dog's bedcover...). The only reason folks might have had issues with the suction is that the filter clogs with grit and dirt easily. I always washed it out after every use using the sprayer on my kitchen sink with something like Formula 409 and hot water, and the unit performs very well every time. Only thing is, the filter can take a day to dry even when set in front of the forced air heating vent, so I will probably buy another filter for interim use. One other thing that I found helpful: with the attached hose / brush, I wrap a band of plant velcro around the bristles when not is use to keep the bristles in proper shape (otherwise they end up all ratty looking, but no surprise there, I think that would happen with almost any long-bristled unit).

Looks good in person and on paper but that's about it
I bought this thinking it would be great for my upholstered furniture since it has a brush head and a HEPA filter. I have 3 cats at home and this vacuum doesn't do ANYTHING. worst vacuum ever
I own the fantom falcon for 6 months and the belt has gone bad on the power head. I placed an order for another belt and the fantom company told me it was on back order and it would take 6 to 8 weeks to get a new one sent to me. "WOW" no vacuum for that long, I have wall to wall carpet with a persain cat. I also don't like the way the hepa filter is on the basket it sits right in the middle of where you collect the dirt and that collects most of the cat hair and dirt> I always had to use a air compressor to blow out the dirt every time I used It. Please anyone looking to buy this vacuum that doesn't have a air compressor and has wall to wall carpet better think again.

Made cheap and it shows!
I bought this vacuum at a local wholesale store today. I brought it home, put it together, and vacuumed for about five minutes until the hose ripped. I'll be returning it this evening. I didn't realize it was made by Euro-Pro, the same people who make the Shark line of products--which I was also disappointed with. The other vacuum didn't have much suction, and wasn't worth the money. Look elsewhere to spend your money, this brand is all Lemon!

Fantom falls flat
This vacuum is just not as powerful as it boasts to be. I always felt it was inferior, but getting a second opinion sealed it. I had my grand piano tuned, and the tuner asked to borrow the vacuum to clean out some dust. When I gave him this fantom to use, he told me "you have a pretty weak vacuum here". It couldn't even efficiently clean dust from a piano. the vacuum is only 6 months old, but I can't take it back, so I'm going to put an ad in the paper to get rid of it. Another thing is I find it difficult to store in a closet, and a pain to drag around. I'll be going back to an upright model, and I'm open to suggestions. :O)

Beware of Falcon
We were seduced to buy a Falcon bagless by the stylish European design and the good reputation of HEPA filter. What we've got really stinks... but not exactly in a sense we expected it. It is as noisy as a Russian bomber and requires almost as much care as a newborn baby (clean pre-engine filter and HEPA filter after each use, buy new filters every 3 to 6 months). And the cleaning of the dust container and HEPA filter is a pure pain -- you need a gas mask for that. On top of that all, our Falcon was not flying high -- it broke down on the second use. When we checked the instruction for a list of repair centers, it turned out that there aren't any -- they want you to mail the whole thing to them, pay for the shipping and insurance and send them money.. to cover costs of shipping it back.
Isn't that what nightmares are about?

Not as good as the fantom lightning
i bought the fantom falcom canister vacuum cleaner to replace my old fantom lightning which i loved but the motor burnt out on it. when i recived it i opened the box, and assembled it when i started vacumming with the falcon it did a wonderful job but after awhile i noticed that it wasnt picking up as good as before. so i empied the dirt container and ammeidlety noticed the prolbem. the filter in the middle of the dirt container was all clogged up with dirt. so i tapped it aginst my trash can and dirt went everywhere. the old lightning canister didnt have a filter in the middle of the dirt container. i think that fantom has really taken a downfall of quality ever since euro-pro bought the company. ... Be Afraid, be very afraid
Fantom products have gone WAY downhill since they were acquired by Euro-Pro/Shark. This product may last past it's warranty, but likely will not. And you'll need a Lot of patience once you try and get any "customer service" from this company, because they don't know the meaning of the words. Worst ever
Although it has good suction and a power head.... It topples over all the time while vacuuming, gets clogged and my power head went dead and no one can fix or replace it.... so that's it! I only used it 6 times in 1 year, since I have maid service. Worst ever! This was my second and last Fantom!

worst vacuum ever!
I bought this vacuum because I owned the Fantom Fury upright and thought it was great, but wanted a canister. It seemed perfect- bagless, hepa, light, etc. It is the worst vacuum I've ever had. My dustbuster has more suction. The parts are made of cheapo plastic. The "adjustable suction" nob keeps opening. The body keeps flipping over. The retractable cord keeps sticking. The worst part is that dust gets so caked onto the filter that I have to scrape each ridge with a toothpick between each use, or there's no suction at all. Today I plugged it in, and it didn't turn on. I just bought this piece of junk 3 months ago. This is the first review I've ever written, but I felt I had to warn everyone.

Best Vacuum for all ages
My mom makes me vacuum the carpets and the tile floors a lot. When our very old Kenmore canister's engine burnt out we needed a very good and powerful vacuum fast. Our floors get very dirty and we have shag carpet in the basement. Its best feature that didn't come on out old vac is the hard floor cleaning tool. I was looking at the reviews all the other people wrote and they don't know what they are talking about!! I really thing you should consider this canister vac.

Wow!This is what comes out of a 5 by 7 carpet that .........
First off I would like to say that alot of people accuse people who write good reviews for this vacuum of working for Euro-Pro/Fantom. I am only 14 years old. I will update this review if the mechine breaks. I had a old Fantom Thunder with Dual Cyclonic Technoligy. It was still working. I bought the Twister.Ran over the 5 by 7 carpet with the Thunder then the Twister. Wow, did it pull out alot that was left behind. I love everything about this vacuum.The bottom empting canaster with the Twister nob you turn, the Hose handle, and its carpet to bare floors setting. Finally, I bought this vacuum new at K-mart
for $159.99 and it even came with the air driven turbo brudsh.Buy it.

run away don't look back
Do not buy a fantom product. I'am on my third one in two years. They all broke after dishing out big bucks. They are not built to last. I bought them becuse I vacuum every day do to three golden retrivers. This is a terriable product very cheaply made.

It's already stopped working at 2 months old!
Ok, I loved this machine for the first two months. It picks up dirt I never knew I had. It's easy to operate and empty. The tools are also a nice feature. I'm very disappointed that it stopped working already. When vacumming, it has started turning itself on and off causing all the lights in the house to dim when it does this. After a few minutes, it just completely stops working at all. The headlight comes on but no motor. It would be a nice vacuum if it was reliable.

I bought the machine on 6/13/03 from the Home Shopping Network. I am returning the machine on 12/29/03.

At the very beginning, I thought I had found the perfect vacuum. It was a wonder machine, and I was impressed with the stair tool, and the power it had to get up dirt off stairs.

But I was soon very very disappointed.

MANUFACTURING problem: Almost immediately, the bottom grey plastic part that holds the cord (when its not in use you wrap it from top to bottom on the back of the body of the machine) broke off. So it was hard to store the cord without the cord coming loose.

BELT problem: Within the first 2 weeks the first belt broke. Ok, not a big deal. But the next belt broke 5 months later. Most other machines I have had, it took at least a year to have a belt break, sometimes longer.

TOOL problem: Within the first month the stair tool broke. It would not pick up dirt anymore and I was unable to figure out why.

ELECTRICAL problem: Also, in late October, this machine developed from what I can determine an electrical problem. The power fluctuates high and low, high and low, so there is not a consistent sucking power in the machine. It will not pick up dirt like it once did. This is the biggest problem with this machine.

WHEEL problem: Then just a week ago, one wheel fell off. I am unable to reattach it.

CUSTOMER SERVICE problem: About the time I realized there was an electrical problem, I called HSN to complain. To my dismay, they informed me it wasnt their problem and I had to call the company who sells them, EuroPro. So I called EuroPro, and after navigating through a terrible maze of recorded telephone options, I got a human being on the phone.

She informed me I had to send the machine back and that it would take 4-6 weeks to get it back. Once it was in their plant, they would determine if they fix it or send me a new one. I requested my money back, and they said they do not do refunds.

Ridiculous!!!! I have never heard of such prehistoric customer service policies. I have to live without a vacuum for 4-6 weeks??? I have to pay for shipping this heavy machine back to the company??? I have to find a box to fit it in, because I threw out the box already, in my excitement of how wonderful it was initially (lesson learned there).

So I called HSN back to complain, again, and they said basically Sorry Charlie but here is ten dollars toward your next purchase. Gee Thanks. Not sure if there will be a next time. Being a new customer to HSN, this has me very skeptical now.

Well, I asked for a real vacuum from my family for Christmas to replace this one because I cannot live without a vacuum for 4-6 weeks. What a waste of money!!

This Fantom is a piece of junk and I really want my money back, rather than the machine fixed.

By the way, if I see the infomercial again, I might be calling to tell people my testimony and experience with this machine. If you get away with lousy customer service, and selling such a poorly made machine, people should know that before they buy.

UPDATE 12/29/03:

HSN, after sending several e-mails to customer service and also to their parent company, called me back and agreed to take the machine back and give me a refund, and also refund my shipping costs too. They have earned a customer back.

EURPRO still stands by its policy of no refunds, 4-6 weeks time to fix it, and the buyer paying to ship the broken item back to them and the buyer also must pay the return freight back, a cost of about $40 total to the buyer.

I dont sneeze any more when vacuuming!!!!
Most people say that the hepa filter is just another gumic, but it really works!!Not only does it keep away the just vacuumed smell, but I has reduced my alergies. and you have to dust less often. But as I stated earlier it gets rid of the just vacuumed smell. I can vacuum so close to my gusts arriving that I am just putting the vacuum away and they are non the wiser. best for the price
When I decided it was time to retire my 35 year old electrolux canister, I knew I didn't need a super expensive vac because my needs would change when I moved from my apartment into a larger house in a few years. SO, I gave myself a 150.00 budget and looked around for a vacuum with the most suction, the ability to not get clogged on the tons of fur my two kitties constantly shed, and one that had attachments to get the fur off the furniture. Well, the Fantom does the job and then some. It effortlessly moves from my berber rugs to my hardwood floors and even to my super thick luxury carpet without adjusting anything. AND the suction - the suction is amazing!! I had vacuumed with my old vacuum two days before buying the fantom and it still picked up enough fur and dirt to make-up a whole new pet!!! Not only that, but on the hardwood floors, the dust bunnies come to you! The attachments are definitly an afterthought and not the best out there, but that's my only drawback so far.

HORRIBLE...No More Fantoms for ME!
I've owned 2 previous Fantoms and was very pleased with their performance and durability. Yes...I did pay more for them. However, this vacuum is living proof that--YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!! It is a HORRIBLE vacuum. I spend more time bending over with the hose that releases from the bottom...my back is shot. Their nifty "quick release" canister??? A TOTAL JOKE!! You still have to stick your hand in there to get all the lint, hair, etc. from out of it. Oh, did I mention that after you vacuum an area and think you're done...you only turn around to see some of what you just vacuumed mysteriously ends up behind you! Auto-height adjustment?? Great if you have shag carpeting from the '70s. Anything shorter and you're out of luck. DON'T WASTE YOUR $$$$. I just bought the DYSON ANIMAL from Target/Amazon website. After reading ITS customer reviews--I EAGERLY await it's arrival!!! I'd rather pay $500 and get what I expect!!

Not at all like the old Fantoms!!
I have had my old Fantom Fury for at least 8 years and it is still going strong. It was so great for dog hair that I have recommended it to everyone I know with pets. About 6 months ago I saw the new Fantom's and decided I'd get another so I didn't have to keep carrying the old one up and down the stairs. While the new one does have great suction like the old one, it is much more cumbersome to use. It is a lot harder to empty it, harder to maneuver around things, and under things and the on-board tools are harder to use because the hose doesn't stretch well. If you get more than a foot away from it, it falls over. Plus, it is much heavier than the old one. The dirt never comes all the way out of the canister and the dog hairs get stuck in there. Plus, it has gotten clogged more times in 6 months than the old one did in 8 years. This one is also not made as well. One wheel will not stay on ours. I definitely would NOT recommend this new product. I now know why this sells for less than the old ones did.

Not Like Old Fantoms At All
I haved tried several types of Euro Pro Vacuums (hand-held's, small portables. etc.) and everyone of them is cheaply made, doesn't last, and not worth the money. I've had Fantoms is the past and loved them. Since Euro Pro bought out Fantom the quality went down the [sewer.] The biggest problem is the filter and dust container design. The dust container is triangular and the inner filter is round. As soon as dust starts to accumulate it can't freely move in the dust container requiring it to be emptied (very frequently) due to sudden loss in suction power. Spinning the filter to clean does not completely remove the dust from the filter screen. I have to use an old toothbrush to remove the dust. Very messy. Very disappointed with product and Euro Pro. I will never buy any type of appliance from Euro Pro again.

not as good as the old fantoms
The new fantom twister is not as good as the old fantoms for many reasons.
1. the filter in the dirt container is always clogged after every time that you vacuum so you have to empty the dust and tap the filter out which is a mess ( so i do it outside)
2.The suction doesnt seem as strong as the old fantoms.
Those are the main reasons that i dont like the fantom twister. i think that fantom has taken a major downfall ever sense euro pro bought the company ... Read more
