i have worked on this vacuum several times, always something new.1st it was the retractable cord, no prob. made a new guard for it, works great, 2nd it's main mtr stopped, thermal fuse goes bad, replaced works great. 3rd brush stops spinning, red light comes on. brush mtr going bad, repaired brushs inside mtr. relubed bearings in brush. works great. to get parts for this go to [mfg. website]they still have parts for it.

Fantom Lightning Vacuum
I purchased this vac less than 2 yrs. ago. I have been very pleased with it. I sent in my registration form. I thought I was getting the best on the market at the time. You can imagine my surprise today when I found out the company is out of business. The vac was running fine and suddenly just quit. I have no idea with is wrong. It just will not start again. I called the hot line to find a repair shop close by, but was advised on the telephone that the company has no office at this time. I am really ticked off. Now what do I do. Who out there repairs these vacuums? Response from anyone will be appreciated. Thanks for letting me air my feelings.

I LOVE THIS VACUUM CLEANER!
I have just received my reconditioned Fantom and it looks like new! I bought it as a replacement for my old dead Fantom. I understand Fantom has gone/is going out of business. I will mourn their demise. I have 5 chhildren ranging from 1 yr to 13 yrs and this vacuum deals with their debris - no problem. It is the only bagless canister I could find when I moved here from europe and I was desperate to find a Dyson equivalent. This is it. I hope somebody else at least takes over the technology and design, otherwise I'm just going to have to buy in bulk now, while they're still avaiable.

covered in dust
I purchased a fantom lightning and was pleased by its performance. Then the wand broke and on the same day fantom went bankrupt. I have been searching for over a month for a replacement and guess what....no one has one! So, do I buy a new vacuum or keep up the search...in the mean time the dust of time gathers at my feet.

Not too Pleased
I purchased this vacuum when it first came out on the market. A friend let me borrow his and wow! I was impressed. I later bought one and I liked it, I still do but it is in need for engineering improvement. The power head shuts it self off when it feels like it, and the power cord sticks, and when you try to pull it from room to room or around corners it smashes into the walls. The wheels could use a better design also. It is a lot to keep emptying the canister but at least it gets it clean. I love it but I wish the design was a little more thought out before going on the market. Would I buy another? Yes.. but only when they come out with a better design. ... Read more

Ths vacuum cleaner SUCKS!! ;-)
I was AMAZED by the amount of filth this vacuum suckd up from my home.
For [the price that it is offered at] this is a tough deal to beat. I've been looking for a decent vacuum for a while but the prices have really turned me off...
That is until I ran across this model on Amazon... So what if it factory refurbished and has a few blemishes. What counts is it WORKS and it works well.
I thought the other commernts were [not true] when they were saying how much fun they had with the vacuum. Well, I'm proven wrong, I had fun using the vacuum, my wife had fun as well.
If you already have a good Hoover this may not be the vacuum for you, however if you have an old vacuum...I reccomend taking the chance in trying this vacuum cleaner. You will not be disappointed and who knows you allergies (if you have 'em ) may improve due to removing all of the YUCK from your carpet.
In addition the handle that converts to a suction wand with a flick of the switch is incredibly conveinent. It makes it really easy to suck the dirt out of those hard to reach corners and edges.

Good Vacuum - Poor Reconditioning
I AM impressed with the way the unit cleans. It is nicely designed and generally speaking, delivers as promised. It is somewhat top-heavy with much of the weight in the handle. My model was well worn. The original Fantom warrantee is 2 years - I'm guessing mine is close to that in age. The canister is clear, but mine is difficult to see through because it is so well worn. The top is marred, as if the previous owner vacuumed frequently under a couch which rubbed the top of the unit. The back wheels are roughed up, as if it was rolled over outdoor concrete. The rubber bumper is gouged and scratched. The reconditioned warranty is 90 days. The unit came missing one of the attachments (the floor cleaning tool) and I've alerted the friendly folks at Amazon. One of the other tools was a different color (gray instead of black) but that was no biggie. I AM dissappointed at the lack of reconditioning. The beater bar still had carpet fibers and candy wrappers stuck on it, and the entire unit arrived dirty. Despite all this, I think it was still a good value and at this point (1 week after arrival) would buy it again.

What a disaster!
The belt broke twice within three months of purchase.
The dust trap requires a fight every time to take it out and put it back in.
The rollers at the bottom front fall off every time I pick it up.
It is now resting peacefully, almost unused, in the garage less than six months after I got it.
Stay away, even if they pay you to use it.

Great Out the Gate, But Then . . .
I purchased this vacuum in Aug 01, and loved it to pieces. It pulled up so much "stuff" from our carpets each time I vacuumed, that I began to vacuum almost daily (the hubby was loving that, as we have four boys under 10). I raved about this vacuum until just this week - the motor is on it's final gasp. Just like that, it's a gonner, unresponsive to all maintenance and troubleshooting attempts, and now out of warranty. Tried to contact customer service and plead my case, but they're "OUT OF BUSINESS, SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE". Guess I know what I'll be getting for my upcoming birthday . . .

Don't waste your money!
My family bought a Fantom Vacuum Cleaner less then a year ago. Within a couple of weeks - it had stopped working. It doesn't even manage to inhale dust anymore. Instead, it spits out whatever is inside the canister. I've been trying to find information about FANTOM online... The company has gone out of BUSINESS and if you call the HELP number on the actual vacuum, you'll reach a company that sells flowers. Fantom's website doesn't even work!!! Stupendous!
I am a very picky - some would say almost finicky - housekeeper and I can highly recommend this product. You can vacuum your carpet with your present vacuum and then pick up some much more dirt with the Fantom. The hepa filter feature and bagless system are the best. I wouldn't use any other product. I have one for every floor in my house. THE BEST!!

No customer service
the rotating brush on my fantom no longer rotates after less than a year of use. The customer service office is closed "until furthur notice" and the e-mail address for customer service cannot be displayed. I bought the fantom for the filter system and because it is lightweight enough to carry upstairs, but its useless now because i cant find a place to get it repaired.

Dont Waste Your Money
When I bought this vacum, I had real high expectations because of previous Fantoms that I had owned in the past. Fantom has really gone downhill, because this thing is junk. First, it seems to clog up all the time, I am constantly cleaning the filter out. Second the piece that holds the floor attachment broke off when I slightly bumped something! Buyer Beware!!!
I bought this vacuum aboot 4-5 months ago. The biggest problem I've run into is that if the 2 filters are not kept absolutely clean, the vacuum clogs. Even worse the company is now out of business. I tried getting replacement filters from my local store and they told me they can't get them because Fantom is out of business. Go figure Enron and now Fantom! So I've been left to devise my own rigged filters to keep this thing running. My wife will never let me choose appliances again!!!

WARNING! OVERHEATS CONSTANTLY!
I was very excited when we purchased our Fantom Crosswinds from Overstock.com...(for around $180-200) it's nice-looking and from the features it offers, we thought we had found a goldmine for a vacuum. After only cleaning one room, we noticed it began to lose power, overheat and shut itself off. Sooo, we're left standing there with many more rooms needing vacuuming. Uh, okay, what do we do now? Well, we checked the filters, read the manual and it explains that if it should overheat (if??) you will need to check and clean the filters after every use. Well, in our case every use meant after one room of use!!! This is VERY annoying and a complete and utter waste of money and time because the manual also states that your vacuum should cool down and be ready for use again in a few hours! That's a lie!! Our Fantom will not even power up again unless we wait 24 hours!! So, if you can picture this: a washed out filter lying on the edge of the bathroom tub (which has to stay there for 24 hours to completely dry before we can use it again) and a "dead" overheated vacuum which won't work for 24 hours...after only cleaning 1 small room area. This is what we deal with with our Fantom!! We will NEVER buy another Fantom again!! I cannot believe this company has so eloquently deceived the public with their more-than-phenominal infomercials into believing their products are any better than a $70 upright my husband bought over 20 years ago! We still use that old upright--(not that I want to, but we have to because of the Fantom)--the old Hoover still works, yes, it's very loud (I call it "Old Bessy" because it moans like a cow) and we do have to change bags and belts when they break, but at least we can vacuum the house without waiting 24 hours to do one more room! I urge everyone NOT to buy Fantom products! NEVER!

I LOVE THIS VACUUM!!!
Ok firt I have owned 2 different FANTOMS well kind of 3. A fantom fury and a fantom lightning and they are both still great but slowly dying after the years of labor they have gave me. the almost 3RD but it is a westinghouse wired DELUX same as fantom CW600 and I love it. It is by far one of the best machines I'v owned. yes fantom is out of business but there are plenty of carriers of fantom parts on the internet if you even need any. [which I havent] my machines have only gotten cloggeg a couple times [ONLY THE FURY] the reason for this is that I have a long haires bichon in my house and the fury was an older model [the first fantom] and I gues it was a faulty design problem that was worked out before they made they next models [thunder, lightning, cyclone xt, and all crosswinds and special editions]. I was able to unclog it by simply opening the flap in the back on the bottom and removing the hair. I belive that after all the service I have recieved from my vacuums that fantom is the BEST!!!!!!!!!

Pet Hair Hell
The Crosswind 600XL does not come up to the usual quality that I have come to expect from Fantom. I sold my Fury and Thunder to upgrade to the Crosswind. Worst mistake I ever made! I have 1 cat and 1 dog. The Fury and the Thunder handled the pethair effortlessly. The Crosswind will only run 5 mins before the automatic shut off kicks in because it overheats. You have to wait 30 mins before it will restart. Spent the whole afternoon trying to vacuum a livingroom, diningroom and hallwy. I'm awaiting Europro's response now that they have taken over what was once a good product.

Best Vacuum
I wanted to say that I own 4 Fantom vatuums for my church and they are awsome and this one is the best one becuase for one thing the floors are were ugly and now they look new you can tell differance in the carpet and the vacuums is much easier to take care of them others like Hoover and Eureka becuase each one of this models required everytime its emptyed you have to bang the filter off on the side of the trash can which causes a plume of dust. But this you just empty. The Dirt arrester are the best becuase the dirt dosen't get caught in the bottom of the dust bin and i love the cog style belt less breaking just an over all great vacuum. worked well for a while
This vacuum had wonderful suction at first, but only lasted one year. Now I can only vacuum one room, and then it loses its power because it's overheating. It then starts spitting everything back out. It doesn't pick up anything of any size, such as small playground pebbles. This was a waste of money - I've bought a new vacuum and will just keep this one for the basement.

Fantom cyclone XT
I have a Fantom cyclone and a thunder and they are the best vacuum ever. They pick up all the deep down dirt. Please go on ebay and by a Fantom Cyclone XT since the company is out of busness

I bought a used Fantom And it is the best vacuum I know of.I can vacuum with my less than a year old bagless vacuum Twice very throughly, take one pass with my Fantom and have a dirt spinning in the canaster and this is from a small area rug. Please go one ebay and buy one. If it isent as good as I say, you got a broken or cogged one. These vacuums are so good, I love my Fantom Thunder.

Exceptional
If you have thick carpets and/or pets -- especially cats -- this vacuum is a wonder for getting things up quickly. The powered scrubbing brush works quite well, and you just can't beat bagless convenience. I've used this vacuum extensively for 3 years and have NEVER had a problem with clogging, parts breaking, or other operation -- one of the headlamp bulbs burned out after 2.5 years, that's it. Of course, I'm not trying to vacuum up hunks of metal or plastic. Ask any vacuum service center, they'll tell you that's the cause of 90% of their repairs.

Only three minor downsides to this vacuum that I can see: the bagless chamber is easy to remove and empty out, but there's a small inner dust chamber that takes some shaking/banging to properly clear out -- there's also no way to easily access this area if you want to clean it with soap & water, the way you can with the main chamber. I'd also prefer if the hose for accessory use were just a bit longer, and if the vacuum came packaged with a better upholstery attachment.

Get this vacuum and you won't be the least bit disappointed. That is, unless you try to use it like you would a Shop Vac.

It works great!
The Fantom vacuum does everything it said it would. The handle is very easy to detach and use for dusting, the vacuum does a great job on both carpets and hard wood floors. My only complaint is that the hose is a little on the short side, although you can buy an extension hose (I haven't, so I have to move the vacuum more frequently). Best Vacuum I've ever owned.
I have 3 homes, and I have a Fantom Lightning Canister Vacuum Cleaner in each one, so I own 3 of these. I owned Fantom uprights before these, and they were great, but these top those.
Much easier to use, much lighter weight, and in two of my homes I have carpeted steps, so I purchased the separate attachment for stairs. I love the way the vacuum sets on the steps, no chance of it falling, very secure. I really enjoy being able to see the dust and dog hair that this picks up, and I have a very hairy large Cocker Spaniel. 2 of my homes are totally carpeted, and the 3rd has carpet and tile, works great on any surface. Also it is very easy to vacuum mop boards and under beds. If I were to need another, I would definitely buy a Fantom.

I've had the Fantom Lightening for close to 3 years and absolutely love it. In fact, I just purchased another since the price is so much lower than the price I paid on the 1st. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in maintaining a dust-free home.

Not even other Fantoms are as good.
My Fantom Lightning is four years old. I also have a Fantom Cyclone Xt, and used to have a Fantom Thunder that I gave to my grandmother.They all work excalent and are all four years old. They were all purchased in the last four monthes used. Just today I vacuumed with the cyclone and then went over the Carpet with the Lightning that I just got yesterday. Boy , I gave the cyclone Xt a 5 star ratting, but when I went to empty the Lightning there was about half as much as what was in the cyclones canaster in the Lightning. And no the cyclone was not clogged The hepa filter works great.Thanks, for reading.

can't find parts
i own this vacuum, the vacuum it's self is not bad, but you can not find anybody that will service them or can get any parts. i also have fantom fury same thing ,no one want's to even talk about them. in the begining i thought this was a great vacuum, so i bought my daughter one . both power nozzles broke,and searched everywhere and can't find one. can someone hepl me?
