Functional as well as beautiful, the 15 pieces in this cookware set will bring joy to any serious cook. where o where are the stainless frypans of yore?
I have used my Farberware stainless steel starter set constantly ever since I received it 37 years ago when I got married. Then the frypans were stainless steel--same guage as the pots and even the eggs still don't stick. Now I want to start my daughter off with the same set--and all that is offered is ordinary aluminum non-stick skillets. Definitely a downgrade. Wish I could find a set on special--but with stainless frypans.

Great stainless steel, but skillets are 100% aluminum.
We're happy with our 20-year-old Farberware stainless steel cookware, pre-dating the stainless steel capped base. The interiors are still like new. The lids are shiny and dent-free. The handles are faded, but remain tight with an occasional turn of a screw. We use it everyday.

We are equally pleased with a couple of "Classic" pieces we bought several months ago. We particularly like the added weight and improved appearance of the capped bases. Most recently, we bought a 15-piece set, giving us some redundant pieces but at a better price than buying fewer pieces individually.

We like stainless steel for several reasons: It cooks well. We can use metal utensils. It lasts for decades. It's dishwasher safe without consequence. It looks good. It's heavy enough. It cleans up easily. (For occasional stuck on food, we simply blot out what's loose, add about a cup of water, and bring to a boil. After a few seconds, the stuck on food wipes off easily. Or by "deglazing" if you prefer.)

There's pricier cookware available, some with aluminum cores that extend up the sides of the pan, some with copper clad bases, some with handles rated to 500 degrees, some made of anodized aluminum, and some so heavy you can use it as part of your fitness program. After years of no-complaints with our Farberware Classic stainless steel, we can't see paying the premium prices for anything else. We don't use our cookware in the oven, so we're okay with our 350-degree handles.

One complaint with the set: The non-stick skillets are 100% ALUMINUM with a PLAIN exterior and NO heavy base cap. Per Farberware's website description of aluminum cookware: "Aluminum stains easily and reacts with certain foods. A nonstick interior and porcelain or nonstick exterior prevents staining and food reaction. Nonstick aluminum is dishwasher safe. A plain aluminum exterior may discolor in the dishwasher."

We use stainless steel for most of our cooking, but prefer non-stick skillets for things like eggs and grilled cheese. We'd like the non-stick skillets in this set better if the exterior had a finish on them, but otherwise they seem like the typical lightweight non-stick aluminum pans we replace every few years. We may just give away these aluminum pans in favor of heavier, non-reactive, (but pricier) non-stick anodized aluminum.

Good pans
I have most of these pans and would not consider giving them up for any other I have seen to date. I do not, however, trust the handles to oven use and I like to have a stock pot that I can use as a dutch oven in a pinch. If the handles were stated to be made of Bakelite material I would add these to my current set in a heartbeat. ... Read more

I inherited an old Faberware pot years ago that was, and still is, my favorite. So when I was looking for a basic set of pans to put on our gift registry, I knew this was the set to get. The price and quality simply can't be beat.

Great set...
This is a great set. They are very durable. They are nice looking and cook evenly. If you're wanting to boil water in a hurry these are the pans for you...they boil really fast and hold their heat well. The only problem I have with this set is the fry pans are a bit small but I also have a large family. They are nonstick and cleanup is sooooo easy. You can practically wipe them clean with a paper towel. Great for scrambled eggs, omelettes and pancakes. Has a great price attached too. :) ... Read more

Excellent Knives
These knives are great. I decided on getting new knives after ours starting looking trashy (they were wood handle ones that were starting to split). After spending days (literally) researching and reading reviews I decided on this set. I wasn't about to spend over $100.00 and up for a knife set...I don't really care that much. But this is a $100.00 set for a great price. These are worth it. They are heavy, fit great in your hand, and sharp right out of the box. The only problem was one of the knives had a "ding" on the top of the blade, but this doesn't affect the cutting and wasn't that noticable to ship back. My husband really like them too. Anyways, this knife set is well worth the price and I think one of my best purchases on Amazon.

I got this set about 6 months ago from amazon friday sale
It is a great set and I haven't had any rust problems as some earlier comments. Maybe its b/c I don't put them into the DishWasher. The scissors alone are worth the 30 bucks in my opinion. Definetely a good buy. I bought two sets for future gifts...

These are great knives!
(...) I'm writing from the point of mainly using grocery store knives except for my wonderful Wustof Bread Knife, which I try to use for just about everything. The block is reasonably nice (mine had two hairline cracks - not noticeable enough to exchange). The knives came sharp - I haven't used the sharpening tool yet. When cutting up peeled and boiled potatoes the chef knive cut them like it was going through butter. In comparison to my Wustof bread knife, this bread knife does tear a tad and the handle is a bit mightier. Also the steak knives don't sit in the slots perfectly even but they work nicely with very slight tearing. The scissors are great! This set is steel, not stainless steel. Therefore, you can not put them in the dishwasher (though the scissors have gotten in the dishwasher 2x without any problems). They suggest you hand wash and throughly dry.

You will not find a better set of knives anywhere for 3-times the price. The chefs knife alone should sell for over $30. Great balance, weight & feel.

Great Value on Farberware Knives
I ordered this set a few weeks ago and used the super saver shipping. Received them pretty quick - within four days. The knives are pretty good quality and are actually thicker and heavier than I would have thought for the price. They are also well balanced and feel good in my hand. How desperate are you?
Look, these are simply not high quality pots and pans, and are not comparable to Farberware's other lines, a la Millenium and Classic. This is Farberware's el cheapo brand designed to appeal to Wal-Mart shoppers and college students.

The pans are thin, the nonstick coating will not last and you'll find they scratch rather easily.

However, they are an absolutely fabulous deal hear on Amazon, which is why they get 2 stars, not one. For somebody who wants the absolute cheapest set of not-quite-disposable pans they can find, you've come to the right place.

I would recommend, however that you buy one or two of the Calphalon Commercial or Farberware Classic special priced items here instead. It will last a lot longer, look a lot nicer, and cook food better. Ultimately, the cost of cookware is a tiny fraction of the cost of the food that you will be cooking with it -- pennies a meal. Isn't it worth it to have decent quality?

Great Supplemental Cookware
I ordered this set of Farberware "Cook's View" to supplement my expensive set of Wearever Allegro as I always seemed to be "short" a saucepan or two. The Allegro is very good, as it should be, because a complete set, with accessory pieces, cost me over $400. The entire set of Farberware "Cook's View" cost me less than $40 and has proved itself to be worth every penny. It has wonderful tempered glass lids (the Allegro does not), it fits easily on the burners (the Allegro does not, with it's huge double-handles on each piece), and it will not upset me if I forget a pan on the stove as I can replace the whole set if necessary for less than the cost of one Allegro pan! My only complaint, hardly worth mentioning, is that one of the saucepans is not properly balanced. When empty, the handle is a bit too heavy to keep the pot sitting perfectly flat on a burner. Of course, when the food is added, it is fine. For the money, you can't go wrong with this set. It's easy to clean, it's reasonably attractive, and it's price on Amazon can't be beat. Perhaps I got lucky, but when I ordered my set thru Amazon, shipping was free, AND I received a beautiful $15.00 stainless steel Farberware teakettle as a free gift---again, with no shipping charge. I am a very satisfied shopper.

Good Quality at a GREAT Price!!
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this set. I think that the non-stick is a good quality, it has not chipped or peeled yet. I also love the 4 1/2qt pot qith lid. It is my favorite. I have 3 young kids and it is perfect for those family size Mac-and-Cheese meals. You all know what I am talking about! I can not beleive how cheap the price was for a pretty good quality pot set. I definitely reccomend this product, In fact...buy 2!

Great...for a bargain starter set
Well, as the title suggests, this is not the pot set if you're an aspiring Emeril! If you're in college, starting out in your first apartment, or in need of a starter set to get the basic cooking done as a newly-wed couple (as we are), then this set is for you!...especially at the great bargain prices of Amazon.com.
Don't expect the heavy weight, don't expect flawless concentric heating, and even the balance leaves a bit to be desired. But eggs, omelette, rice, pasta, chili, curry, or braising/browing meat, and this set does the trick! It definately covers all the basics, I would say more than adequately, with excellent fast heating of all pots and pans and well-fitting lids.

FYI - the utensils (or should I say flexisticks) are FLIMSY!! DO NOT attempt to lift heavy wads of spagetti, rice, or stews with the spoons or even a heavy omelette with the "spatula" :-) ... boiiinnngggg! Get a wooden spoon ;-)

At last, contemporary styling and hot delicious coffe
I've been hunting for the "perfect" coffee maker for quite some time. I wanted the modern convenience of a self-timer, contemporary styling, and most importantly, hot deliciously brewed java.

Auto drips fulfilled the first two necessities, but always fell short on the last. No matter what brand of auto-drips I tried, coffee was lukewarm at best. My grandmother's 20-year-old percolator made better tasting, hotter coffee every time. But I never was fond of the appearance or lack of a self-timer.

Finally, I saw this percolator and knew it was a winner. The body, basket, and tube are easy to clean, maintain, and because it's all stainless steel, it doesn't transfer any metal taste to the coffee. The fact that the electrical cord is built into the base unit, makes unplugging and re-plugging the cord each time you want to pour a cup of coffee a thing of the past. The timer is accurate and easy to setup. I love the little things the engineers thought of, like a built-in 2-hour auto shutoff, in case you forget on a busy workday.

Simply a great product that actually does everything it claims to do. Now, how many products can you say that about?

Disappointment, but nothing else available
Why is it so difficult to find a perculator with a timer? When my parents' 30-old Farberware perculator finally died, my wife & I decided to replace it with a programable perculator, thus we purchased this model. In its short (under 2 years!) lifespan, while it made a good cup of coffee, it was disapointing for 3 reasons. (1) It was difficult to program the clock and timer. The directions were worthless and the only way to program the timer was to hit several of the buttons several times in "just the right manner." (2) The buttons cracked and blistered after about a year. (3) The darn thing died after less then 2 years. While I wasn't expecting it to last 30 years, I was hoping for more then 2.

Unfortunately, almost all coffee makers with timers are drips, which makes inferior coffee to perculators, so if you're looking for a timer, you're stuck with this one. Aside from this model, I haven't seen another perculator with a timer, meaning I may have to bite the bullert and live with a perc without a timer (I won't buy this one again). If you're desperate for a perc with a timer, you can take your chances with this model. Otherwise, keep looking.

Disappointed
I learned as a kid that the name brand to trust in coffee percolators (who would make coffee any other way) is Farberware. I am hardly a kid anymore. In the intervening years I went through two Farberware pots. Not bad at an average 13 years apiece.
This new pot seemed like a great improvement with the timer and the cordless serving.
The first disappointment was how tiny and chintzy the time display is. I've seen better on 50 cent kids watches. The laminate covering the panel started peeling up within 2 months. At 7 months the clear top broke off (replaced the cover with one from my old pot.) Now at 14 months it has stopped perking.
There were some good ideas here. The coffee tasted great. The 2-hour (not adjustable) timer cut-off prevented the problem of forgetting to unplug the pot. Automatically starting the coffee was ok until I lost the booklet. Setting times is totally unintuitive.
The price is much less now than when I bought mine. So I do not know about recommending it. If $60 a year is an acceptable expense for a coffee maker, go for it. Think I will go for the smaller, cheaper, oldie but goodie.

Pleased with purchase
Plain and simple, this percolator makes great tasting coffee, 12 cups at a time. I bought mine over a year ago, and it is still going strong. I love the high capacity, and there is just something special about the taste of percolated coffee. I would give this product 5 stars, however the plastic over the push buttons has detached, and the screws at the base of the urn are rusted pretty thoroughly. These parts are not obviously not engineered for a long service life. Since I paid over $90 for this model, I would have hoped for better. However overall, this workhorse of a coffee maker was well worth the money.

It Just Doesn't Hold Up
When we researched the product it appeared to be a great coffee pot. A year after purchase the perolator lid broke so I bought a replacement. Now the connector at the bottom of the pot does not make good contact with the base so have to move the pot around to make contact in order to brew coffee. Also, the plactic cover of the control buttons cracked a couple of months after purchase and has deteriorated as time went on. You cannot get better for the price.
What happens when you take razor sharp, tempered, high-carbon steel knives to wood? Well duh, the knives cut into the woood. I'm so tired of hearing complaints about wooden cutting boards showing knife marks. I read one review where the writer complained that they would probably have to replace the board after a few years. This is natural. If you don't want to see cut marks or replace your cutting board ever, get a slab of marble. It's bad for your knives, but these people seem not to care about that.

This Farberware 3-piece cutting board set is great. For the price, it's fantastic. These are the only cutting boards your average home cook should need. They are reversable (though only one side has grooves) and offer three various, useful sizes. The large is about the size of two sheets of paper side by side; big enough yet still managable in the sink to wash. The medium is about the size of one sheet of paper. The small is about the size of your avarage hardcover book. All are about as thick as the handles of your knives.

They are hard wood providing a nice cutting surface. The wood is well oiled to help protect it from water damage. After a while, your bound to have many cut marks, but so what? Take a look at the price again. You buy cutting boards so they take the damage, not your knives (or your counter).

The boards I received were all smooth and straight (not warped). None have any signs of cracking and seem well made. They are easily worth two or three times the price amazon.com sells them for.

You get that for which you pay...
If this seems like a ridiculous deal for three hardwood cutting boards, well it is. Only problem is two of the boards have split since I bought the set six months ago. I don't know if the wood is not cured correctly or what, but I have certainly not abused these cutting boards, nor have I subjected them to extreme temps or soaked them in water.
If I had it to do over again, I would get one good cutting board that would last, as these will have to be replace as they continue to split.

There's such a thing as too much of a good thing
Yes, it is nice to have a juice channel, but does one really need a concentric ring of three juice channels to slice a loaf of bread?

Marketed in the standard Papa, Mama, and Baby Bear configuration, these cutting boards are, I'm told, quite attractive. They certainly feel nice to the touch. Oh--didn't you know? I'm blind, a blind architect. To continue: after struggling with my Henckels Birch Cutting Board through more chopping fiascos than I now have fingers to tote up, I decided to make a move to Farberware. Chopping things can be a tricky business for the sightless, and I wanted every possible advantage. I'm pleased to report that I absolutely thrilled to the responsive, one could almost say intuitive, feel of these three boards. I was also pleased to see (so to speak) that these boards come with juice channels. Henckels has certain advantages, but apparently the Germans just like the juice from the things they chop to go all over the place. Ah, well. Who'd have thought it of the people who brought us Kraftwerk? Yet, these boards are ringed with juice channels. Not a single droplet of juice is lost. When my wife entered the kitchen, looking droopy with sleep after her customary six hour nap, she first shrieked, and then fell into a dead faint, after seeing how much juice I'd unwittingly collected from three vidalia onions. If you've ever had to feel around a kitchen floor for a small unconscious person while cooking a white sauce you'll know how difficult it can be. So--good job, Farberware. But easy on the juice next time, eh?

I can't give this set a 5 star rating, only because it probably isn't the best set of pots and pans there is. I give it 5 stars for it's quality and value for the price. It is a good set for a single person. I am a single person on a budget, and this set fit in my place like a glove. I do a lot of stir fry, and the big pot works great for this. I am brutal on pots and pans, so I highly recommend using teflon utensils on this set....that is all I use on them. A Big Disappointment
I'd read great things about these knives -- they were even rated a Best Buy by Consumer Reports. However, having now owned them for a week, I can say they are a big disappointment, and I would not recommend them. Contrary to what others have written, the knives are comfortable, well-balanced and feel great in your hands. However, they are very very dull -- you can't cut anything with them the way they arrive. I ended up spending $ 120.00 dollars on a knife sharpener to try to make this set usable, but while that improved things, the knives still don't feel that sharp. Finally, the knives don't appear to be "stainless" steel. After one hand-washing, three of the knives became discolored, and now have "rust"-like spots on them that will not come off. It looks like things get worse and worse with each use and washing. Overall, it would have been worth it to spend $150.00 to $200.00 more dollars to get something decent, and I could have afforded that with the money I had to spend on the knife sharpener!

Love this set!!
We bought this set about a month ago and we have been really happy with it since the day we got it. I was looking for a nice set and was willing to spend the extra money on nice knives, but when I came upon the reviews of this set and how everyone loved them, I decided to give them a try. The handles are nice and easy to grip. They are somewhat heavy, but I like that to guide me in cutting. You won't be disappointed with this set.

Fine for the price
The blades on these knifes are effective, and it's nice that they can go in the dishwasher. The shears are great. However, the knifes are heavy and the handles don't feel good in your hand. If you're going to do daily cutting, go for more expensive knifes.

Great deal
I bought this set based on CR's review fo them as a "Best buy." For comparison I also bought one of the Wusthof Grand Prix knives, which were rated the best overall. I would say that the Wusthof is a slightly better knife, but I fully agree with CR that the price difference is not worth paying. The Farberware set is very good and cuts really well. It stays sharp and does everything you might ask a knife set to do. After pondering the issue a while, I have decided I would be foolish to spend the extra money for the higher end knives. This set is really a great deal -- you get a very good set of knives at a very reasonable price.

Tasty, Flavorfull Coffee
This time proven percolater produces excellent tasting coffee, fast, dependable and faithful. Mother purchased a Farberware Percolater many years ago. As the word about the hot, tasty coffee the Farberware Percolater faithfully produced month after month at Moms... spread, the whole family was impressed and eventually purchased the small, medium or large percolater. We use the medium size Farberware Percolater for everyday use and the large size for company. The Farberware Percolater not only produces great tasting coffee but also keeps it flavorful and warm, a feature lacking in many coffemakers.

'ol faithful brews a reliable, delicious cup of joe
I've happilly enjoyed Farberware's larger 20-cup electric percolator that is still brewing some wonderful coffee after 10 years. All I had to replace was the electric cord, which petered out after 3 years.

I've had this model for a few months and think that it will also last a long, long time (don't know about the cord, though). This machine looks terrifically retro, is easy to clean and keeps the coffee consistenly hot for hours. After tasting coffee here, you won't go back to your old drip machine.

My advice to you is:

1. Don't overfill the basket with grinds, because it's very easy to make a STRONG cup of coffee with this. We like strong coffee, so this is a good thing.

2. Clean it w/soap & water as soon as you are finished with it to protect the pot. I also clean it out with Dip-It every 6 weeks or so to remove the coffee stains from the inside and make it shiny and new-looking.

3. At most supermarkts you can buy little paper disc filters that sit in the bottom of the jar and keep the smaller grinds from falling into the water. It also filters out alleged carcinogens that are not removed by traditional percolators or coffee presses.

I would actually give this 4.5 stars, because sadly, these newer models are now made in China rather than the Farberware factory in the Bronx.

Hot Hot Hot
If you like your coffee strong and piping hot, look no further. I have gone through 5 coffee makers in 4 years (3 drip, 2 thermal carafes) and have not been satisfied until I purchased the percolator. It is very quick, the brew is strong, and the temperature is EXTREMELY hot (which for me is a good thing). The only drawback is the burnt taste of the coffee left in the pot for a second cup, but this is goes with percolator territory and is not singular to Farberware. So get a big mug, have one large cup of coffee, and you're all set.

These babies are going to make a comeback!
This back to the basics pot makes FANTASTIC coffee! I could have purchased 3 of these for what I paid for my fancy drip coffee maker with all the bells and whistles! The coffee is hot, flavorful and quick! I'll actually drink less coffee now because it's hot enough for me to slowly sip-- not drink down! I was about to be displeased with my new Nissan thermos, but it wasn't the thermos. It can't make something piping hot if it isn't that way when you put it in there! Now if the pot just had the little glass "thingie" on top, I'd be transported back to the days of my youth!

A "classic" complement to the Farberware Millenium Set
I ordered the Farberware 2 quart saucepan with double boiler to complete a starter set of Farberware Millenium cookware. I almost didn't order the double boiler because of the possibility of a mismatch. I am glad I ordered the classic pan. It has the same outer shape as the Millenium set. It is more square than round on the bottom, although the featured picture makes the classic pan look more round. A square piece connects the handle to the pan and it adds a nice touch to the design. The 18/10 stainless steel helps make the match. I am glad I ordered (and opened) the "classic piece" to add to my Millenium set. Every millenium needs a touch of the old to mark the changes in the new! Bye the way, the Farberware is a virtual steal both for the quality and appeal.

Excellent quality
This is good old Farberware quality. Sturdy with a heat distributing bottom. The fit of the two parts is excellent. I see no reason why this won't last for years.

Double Boiler!!!!

A great double boiler!
I use this double boiler to melt chocolate for scrumptious heavenly hash! Like all Farberware, it looks great, it performs well and it will last longer than you do!

This has got to be the deal of the century, and not only that, these pans will last you almost that long! My mother has had a set for 35 years, and I've had mine for 5. Nearly indestructible, dishwasher safe, good performers on the stovetop, with stay-cool handles! They even look great after all those years!
Keep in mind that because they are mostly stainless steel, with an aluminum bottom, Farberware does not heat up quite as fast as, say, hard-anodized aluminum such as Calphalon, which gourmets prefer. Stainless steel is a poor heat conductor, while aluminum is good and copper is the best. On the plus side, you can't put Calphalon in the dishwasher and Calphalon does not have true stay-cool handles, like Farberware.
Anyway, how often do you buy a gift knowing that it will still be around 20, 30, 40 years from now? By the way, if the pot does have a problem, they come with a Lifetime Warranty.

Great Cookware
Although I do not own the double boiler yet (it is on my wish list), I do own the Farberware Classic Series boiler with steamer basket, and I use it a lot. This is my favorite pot(s) in my kitchen. The Farberware Classic Series is a quality product. It has the wonderful heat conductivity from the dual clad metal system, which is fast becoming more common in home kitchens. Fine restaurants have used the dual or tri-clad systems for years. You can bring anything up to high heat quickly using the medium setting of your stove. The finish is highly polished and easy to clean. The handle never gets too hot unless you are using a high heat setting for more than several minutes. In this case, as with any pot, using a mitt would be wise. The grip of the lid is very user-friendly. Since you are getting three pieces, you get a lot of versatility for your money. Often I will use the pot and lid for cooking while I use the steamer basket as a seive or container for food I am prepping. This could be done with the top of the double boiler as well. The best set of stainless steel knives I've owned so far.
Oh my gosh! They are sleek, elegant, and very managable. I thought at first, "no, don't pay that much for a set of knives that will eventually rust". I'm glad I did. I've had mine for about one year. I've had similar brands and all they did were rust. Yuk! I suggest that you go for it. Take the plunge and purchase a set of these knives. You will not regret that you did.

Farberware knives
These knives are good. I could cut ripe tomatoes without mushing it. The are handy, good looking & very easy to clean.

Nice knives but ...be careful
Had the knives two weeks, and was really impressed by the look feel and cut. However, after a couple of washes, rust spots began appearing. I suppose if I washed them all by hand and dried them off right away instead of air drying this wouldn't have happened(my fault..(?) ). I expected better, since I've had cheap K-mart knives for 10 years that didn't rust. I contacted farberware and they did say that if I return the rusted knives they would exchange them, with a turn around time of 6-8 weeks.

Good low cost product
I recieved this as a wedding gift and I really like it. The knives are good quality and are sharp. They will stay nice as long as you take care of them. The steak knives work really well. I would recommend buying this product if you are on a somewhat limited budget but still want a good quality product.

Sleek, Safe, Sizeable... and the Food Tastes Great, Too!
I bought this unit as a replacement for a Rival programmable cooker that came with a non-fit cover and punched out 'feet'. The Farberware slow cooker has been a delight to use. I have made beef stew, baked beans, soup and even a sinfully moist chocolate cake. Each recipe turned out beautifully. The cover is a tight fit and the metal ring around the rim assures a vapor seal, preventing moisture loss. Of particular note are the settings: Low, High and Auto. The Auto function heats the unit to the High setting and then automatically shifts to the Low setting. This assures a quick heating of the unit and discourages the possibility of food contamination from bacteria. Aesthetically, the cooker will look great on your counter with its polished steel body and sleek black insert. One word of caution, however: the outside does get hot so you will want to keep it out of the reach of the kids. The handles stay cool, but if you have to move it, you may want to use hot pads just to be safe .

I'm very happy
I ordered this because I need a larger slow cooker for the Holidays. I thought I wanted the smart pot but I wasn't happy with the reviews. I was worried that the Farberware would be to basic but decided on it anyway. I am thilled with it. The crock is heavy and durable. My lid fits great. It looks very modern. My first meal (beef stew) came out great. I'm going to invest in a slow cooker cook book because I want to cook in it all the time. It only came with a few recipes and I only have a few of my own.

Great Product!!!!!
I received slow cooker for Christmas. It cooks very quickly. It blew my old crock pot away. The food was done in half the time of the crock pot. It's very attractive too. I love it!

Adequate Cooking Ability
I bought this slow cooker about two years ago. After reading the reviews, I'm glad that I'm not the only one that thinks this machine gets too hot! I guess other slow cooker don't get that hot? I'm not sure since this is the only one I've owned.

Also, I found that even though I follow the recommended cooking time with all the recipes I've tried, most of the meats finish quick. I've talked to my mom about it, and I honestly think that the low 200-degree setting is higher than 200 degrees. I've never cooked anything on high, but I really think the low setting is messed up.

Over all, I've never had disastrous results with this machine. However, since there are other cookers on the market, I won't buy this Farberware one again.

Family Sized Slow Cooking
I just got this slow cooker a day ago. I would agree that the unit makes a horrid smell when you first use it. It gives off a burnt electrical smell. I had followed the instructions and heated the unit with 4 cups of water before I used it. The smell went away by the second time that I used it. My food was cooked perfectly.

I was disappointed in the amount of recipes that came with the unit.... a measley 10. I bought a slow cooker recipe book to compensate for this.

I would also agree that the unit gets very hot to the touch. However, this is also stated in the instruction manual.
The instruction manual is very detailed on care of the crock itself. The crock was not built for sudden temperature changes. It warns not to place in frozen food. It also warns not to store the crock in the refrigerator then immediately use it. I would suggest reading the directions carefully before you use this item. It might save you some headaches in the long run.

The good thing about this slow cooker is that it does not take up a lot of counter space. The tall oval design allows you to cook family sized meals in a small space. I have a large family and these can handle approximately two roasters or a really nice sized pot roast.

The auto feature allows the food to cook quickly then switch to low. This helps prevent food-borne bacteria. This is a big plus.

All in all, this is a good crock pot. It does need some minor upgrades to make it a 5. A better recipe book and a cool touch feature would make it even that much better. ... Read more

Excellent pan for the money
This is a great pan. I have had this pan for a couple of weeks, and have used it almost daily since receiving it.

It is heavy but well balanced, and I like the cushy silicone hand grip (which eliminates the need for a potholder) more than I expected to. The pan cooks *very* evenly, I was really impressed. It heats up quickly, and quickly responds to adjustments to the heat level (I have a gas range).

The nonstick works well, my extra crispy eggs slide right out of the pan. It is too soon to comment on the longevity of the non-stick, but I can say this pan was considerably less expensive than the Calphalon pan it replaced, which only lasted 2 years. And it can go in the dishwasher.

The pan is attractive and oven safe to 400 degrees F. All in all, I vote it a good buy. ... Read more
