Designed for efficiently taking the chill off a room, this Black and Decker Heat Wave heater comes with numerous safety features, a helpful timer, and versatile applications. It can be set for small, medium, or large rooms and has two power settings--750 and 1500 watts. An additional fan-only setting can be used to circulate air in warmer seasons, and the Frost Watch option ensures that the heater turns on if air temperature drops below 40 degrees F. Lightweight but sturdy, the unit also comes with a four-hour timer (manual override optional). For structural safety, the heater has a front-mounted heat patch, cool-touch housing, and roll-over grille bars. Other safety features include a tip-over switch, power cord protection, safety auto-off, a thermal fuse, an anti-electric shock device, and a PTC controller with manual reset in case of overheating. Power and caution lights let you monitor the heater at a glance. Intended for use on a floor, shelf, or tabletop, the unit is not suitable for use in damp or wet rooms. Measuring 10 by 15 by 8 inches, it comes with a large, fold-down carrying handle and a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

Heat-efficient and designed for safety, this Black & Decker Heat Wave heater quickly takes the chill off basements, workshops, outbuildings, and mudrooms. A sturdy but lightweight little unit, the heater has two power settings--750 and 1500 watts--as well as a fan-only setting that blows cool air. 1-0 out of 5 stars Not up to the task
I purchased this unit as a supplemental heat source for a small bedroom. It was unable to warm the room and ran constantly because the heater was never able to reach the temperature necessary for the thermostat to shut it off. It only works if you sit close to it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointment
I saw this space heater and thought it would be perfect. The problem I have with it is that the heat only comes out of a 6 inch area at the top of the heater, but it has a grill that would make you believe that the heat would come out of the whole front of the unit. It does get very warm and has great safety features, but it doesn't give off enough heat to warm people sitting 2 feet from the unit. ... Read more

The attentive construction of this ceramic heater from Black &Decker takes the chill off a room and reduces safety concerns to aminimum. The unit, built with wide sturdy feet and a nonslip handle, offers several settings--high, low, fan, fan only, and off. Theadditional "frost watch" setting is great for unoccupied rooms--if thetemp drops below 40 degrees, the heater kicks on automatically.Designed to keep kids and pets safe, Black & Decker's Cool Touchhousing stays cool everywhere except for the double grilles where theheat comes out. Although the heater is unlikely to tip or fall innormal circumstances, a clever tip-over switch pops out and cuts powerimmediately if it does. Additional safety features include aheat-triggered shut-down, a red caution light, Fire Shield Protectionin the power cord, and an anti-electric shock device. The removabledust filter, amber power light, and power cord test button make upkeepeasy. Intended for use on flat dry surfaces, the heater is notappropriate for damp areas like bathrooms or laundry rooms. --EmilyBedard ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not for Hard Surface Floors! BEWARE!
This heater vibrates across the floor until it meets up with something, hopefully NOT flammable! I have called Black & Decker about this problem, hoping to avoid someone getting hurt by it; but all they told me was, to write them a letter about my problem. I see that they are STILL selling this dangerous item. There is NO warning about it vibrating across hard surface floors. I have been unable to keep it from vibrating across the floor via anti-skid pads.
Before I knew of the danger, I went to sleep with it on in our bedroom. When my husband went to bed, luckily he turned on the light, because it was up against the bedding and still blowing very hot air.

2-0 out of 5 stars Noisy and Hot
With all the noise this unit makes you'd think it had a powerful fan, but it does not, and as a result the casing gets very hot even on low heat setting. I've nearly burned myself. I'm scared of this thing on high heat setting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific Safety Features
This heater is wonderful. You have the option of dialing the heat level desired and whether high or low heat, or you can have fan only, when the temparture is reached, it goes on stand-by mode. The unit also pumps out heat well. The safety feature that I love is the tilt feature, as soon as it doesn't lay flat on the floor (whether you lift it, or it gets knocked over), it automatically turns off! There's also temperature safeties should the cord get too hot or should the unit itself get too hot (haven't run into this yet, but it's one of the features). The filter is easy to pull out to clean. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Deserves Zero stars
I bought this heater less than 2 weeks ago, and it is already dead. The heater itself worked great, but the AST plug that it uses for safety is a piece of junk. The instructions recommend you test the plug prior to every use by pressing the test button, then the reset button (similar to a GFCI plug). However, this is what caused the death of my heater.

And I just found it it will cost me almost as much to send it back to Black & Decker to get it fixed as it would to buy another heater (from a different manufacturer, of course). So
I decided to open up the AST plug and find out what was wrong .. and boy am I glad I did...

Inside that plug, the reset button is a piece of plastic that is about a quarter of an inch around on the outside of the plug; but the functional piece on the back of that button that has to press a metal rod down and lock in place is about the thickness of a paper clip. And because it locks in place, it also has to flex back and forth to move notched areas into locking position. Well, this tiny fragile piece of plastic broke because I diligently followed the instructions and tested my unit before every use. About 10 times of pressing that button stressed that thin piece of plastic until it broke... thus rendering the entire heater useless.

I'm just going to throw it in the trash and chalk it up as wasted money; since getting it fixed would probably just result in my being able to use it a few more times before that cheap piece of plastic in the plug would fail again. I'm also never going to buy a B&D product again, as I've had nothing but trouble with their products; usually due to cheap parts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Room Heater
We purchased this heater about a month ago and it is wonderful. It has excellent features, such as tip over or overheat safety. It automatically shuts down if it gets too warm or tips over. If you pick it up to move it, it also shuts down. It has different settings for room size and/or temp. We use it in a 14 x 14 sunroom and has kept it very comfortable so far (during Dec and Jan). We just love it - and it is inexpensive. What a deal! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad thermostat
I've had two of these heaters and they both do the same thing -- the thermostat seems to be based simply on "time", not room temperature. For instance, if you turn it to a hotter setting, you're not adjusting a thermostat to a higher temperature that the heater will then maintain; instead, it just runs more often.
Consequently, your room temperature is never consistent, even though you leave the unit at the same setting. If your central heating is running more often, the room gets too hot because the unit doesn't seem to sense temperature, just "run more" or "run less".
Look for something else.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful heater, excellent for three season room!
We got this heater today and we are thrilled with its performance. It was pretty cold this evening and we were having a birthday party. We wanted to do presents in our 14'x14' three season room, but it was very chilly. Within minutes of plugging in our new heater, the entire room was comfortable. It has three settings for small, medium and large size rooms. It rotates so the heat isn't focused on one area, and the outside base stays cool. The safety features are wonderful since we have two dogs and two children. It can't burn them, or start a fire due to the automatic shut off features. I think this is an excellent value for the price. It is very light weight and will sit easily on our plant stand or stereo cabinet. I highly recommend this to anyone needing a little extra heat. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Concerned about electrical supply
I really loved the heater, it was safe around the pets. I was sitting in the room and smelled something burning, picked up the unit and everything looked fine. 20 minutes later the unit shut off. When I unplugged the unit, the plug had melted. From the way that it had melted, it was clear that something was wrong with the plug. I liked the product, but this made me worry. I don't know if I will replace it with the same thing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great with homes with children....
I have owned this heater for few months.... The safety features are excellent... hmmm a great relief when you have a seven month old crawler in your home... 4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Heater
The Black and Decker heater is a pretty good heater at a value price. It's got several different settings depending on the size of the room you want to heat and puts out a lot of heat in a limited area. One nice feature is the temperature indicator. It's also got a Frost Watch setting which will automatically turn the heater on if the temperature drops below 40 degrees. It also has very nice safety features. Including a switch under the heater that is pressed when the heater is sitting upright. If it should tip over, the switch is deactivated and the heater automatically shuts off.
It's a very nice little heater.

5-0 out of 5 stars Black and Decker vs. Vornado
I own two heaters: a Vornado and the Black and Decker. Both of these heaters are wonderful and I would recommend either equally. First, the safety features on both are outstanding. Neither are similar to the heaters we grew up with which were made of metal and glowed like charcoal. These both produce very good heat, quickly, and are nice to have if you do not wish to heat your entire home. The Black and Decker does have many safety features which is nice. Both have their pluses and I truly can't think of minuses for either. Order both! ... Read more

Compact yet powerful at 1500 watts, the Chill Buster quickly warms up rooms that are small- to medium-sized, or tempers them with just the fan setting. A good unit to have around pets or children, the heater comes with a number of built-in safety features. Two devices, a motion-detector and a tip-over switch, automatically shut the heater off if the unit is picked up, moved sideways, or knocked over. When set upright again, the unit automatically turns back on. The unit also shuts off automatically if the cord is damaged or if overheating occurs.

Oval-shaped with a stylish tilt, the Chill Buster features two stable feet, a cool-touch body, and soft-touch handle (that is free of natural rubber and latex, for those with allergies), which makes the unit easily carried and set in place on a table, shelf, desk, or floor. One particularly handy feature is the frost watch thermostat that turns the heater on when the ambient room temperature falls below 40 degrees F, thus preventing pipes from freezing. Two output settings, low and high, along with variable heat settings keep a room just right. This particular model does not show actual room temperature. The Chill Buster measures 11 by 12 by 6-1/2 inches, and is covered by a one-year warranty. --Ann Bieri ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Dricken Heat
When I first picked up this heater I had serious doubts due to its size. I already had a quartz heater and it was ok it brought the room to a cool in stead of freezing but with this one working along side it now the room is toasty the room is like 15' by 12' basement apart. So u can imagine how it was with out it aside from it being in the middle of the coldest winter in like 100 years.
