For smaller roasts, turkeys, or Cornish game hens, this 8-inchcarving knife cuts precise slices of meat without shredding or tearingit. No way the tip bent from slicing a roast. This knife is terrific.

1-0 out of 5 stars Henckels Pro S 8-Inch Carving Knife
I didn't mind paying a high price for a product with a lifetime guaranty. But, when I sent my knife back for replacement, I was told that the bent tip on my knife was not a manufacturing defect. The tip on the knife bent, I think, just the heat from carving some piece of food. They refused to repair or replace. Wanted me to buy another. Got me once, shame on them. I'll buy America this time...... ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Reach for this knife when a job--sandwich-making, for example--doesn't require a specialized blade. Its 6-inch blade is also large enough to trim a chuck roast or subdue a head of lettuce. Classic three-rivet handles distinguish Pro S from Henckels' other quality lines: TwinStar, Five Star, and Four Star. Pro S handles are heavier and its knives less weight-forward. Handles are also smaller, a feature those with small hands may appreciate. The steel used in the Pro S line is identical to that of the Five and Four Star lines. High-tech welding of knives this size and larger combines three steel types into what appears to be a single piece, so a knife's parts have distinct characteristics: a hard edge; a strong, stain-resistant bolster; and a stain- and corrosion-resistant tang. Traditionalists insist on single-piece forging for strength, but Henckels says the invisible welds are actually stronger than the steel. While this utility knife is dishwasher-safe, hand washing is recommended. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent knife
I've been in the market for a mid-sized knife for a while now. My 10-inch chef's knife is too clumsy for some tasks, and my paring knives are too small. Enter the Henckels 6-inch utility blade.

The first thing I noticed was the wood handle -- I much prefer wood to the newer rubbery handles. Also, the heavy back-weighting made it feel quite steady in my hand: I liked the balance. The blade itself is sturdy, shaped like a small version of a chef's knife. And -boy!- is it sharp! This makes trimming small cuts of meat and vegetables very easy. I highly recommend this knife.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent tool
This knife is very versitle and extremely well made. It has perfect balance and is razor sharp. Prep work is a joyous experience with it. It stays sharp under heavy use for quite sometime. To maintain its edge, I only have to pass it a few times on each side against a sharpening rod. Its high carbon quality steel blade lends itself perfectly to honing a razor sharp edge that lasts for a long time compared to a stainless steel blade. If you purchase this high quality knife, it's imperative that you have a means to sharpen it to maintain its perfection. ... Read more

You'll reach for this moderately priced knife for almost any kitchen job, like sandwich-making, that doesn't require a specialized blade. It's shaped like a paring knife (center-tip style, with curved back and edge), only longer. Though this is not Henckels' premier utility knife--it doesn't have a bolster, its blade is thinner and less strong than other models, and its handle is narrower and shallower--it will still get the job done and comes with a lifetime warranty. Henckels Four Star Sharpening Steel, 10 in.. A sharp knife is a safe knife and Henckels sharpening steels are the key to keeping your knives sharp. In order to sharpen a knife, the steel must have a hardness factor greater than the knife to be sharpened; with a Rockwell hardness factor of 66 degrees, Henckels sharpening steels are harder than even super hard Henckels FRIODUR, ice-hardened blades. To easily sharpen a knife, hold the steel point down on a table or cutting board, at an angle between knife and steel of 20 degrees, pull the knife down and across the sharpening steel in a slight arc. Alternate between right and left sides of the knife 3 to 4 times. All steels are magnetic to hold small particles removed from the knife blade and are made of chrome-plated carbon steel. A sharp knife will provide maximum safety. Use the sharpening steel regularly, preferably every other time the knife is used. 5-0 out of 5 stars Works Great But There's Something You Should Now
This is the best can opener I've used- I've had it for about five years and it works as well as the day I bought it. On a lot of cheaper can openers the cutter is tangential to the can. On this opener, the force is directed toward the center of the cutting wheel.

There is something of a trick to using it. After you squeeze the handle to penetrate the can, relax your grip on the handle as you turn the wheel. Otherwise it turns hard.

1-0 out of 5 stars looking for another can opener
WELLL....after perusing opinions on various products, some that I own, some that I'm interested in purchasing, I ran across the critique of "A VIEWER FROM Flagstaff, AZ, USA--Jan. 12,2002".
I,too own this Henckel Can Opener. We'll refer to it as "OLD RUSTY"...Indeed, I would have thought that this item--made by Henckel would work wonderfully and last a lifetime!
NOT THE CASE. We have many Henckel knives and tools. Most of them are great. This stupid "old Rusty" is ready for the trash.
However, I think I should mail it back to Henckel. I might mention that my husband and I take very good care of our kitchen ware. I even collect vintage and antique kitchen implements, as well as high quality modern stuff. "old Rusty" DOES NOT fit in that category. I think it may be easier to open cans with my teeth! We have had this piece for several years. I never thought I would grow to despise it! The above mentioned can opener is stiff, dull, rusted and as the other person mentioned, was quite pricey. I don't mind pricey if something is really good. This was expensive junk.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just another can opener
Well, it does its job. Nothing extraordinary, however. It looks quite nice in my utensil drawer, but not enough to warrant the [amount] I paid for it. I have used Henckels products in the past and have been quite impressed with their quality, and was expecting the same from this can opener. I was hoping especially that unlike the can openers I have used in the past, it would not be prone to rusting. However after about a month of use the blade and the inner workings had begun to rust, making it difficult to turn the handle. Usually spending the extra money for something nicer pays off, but this time it didn't.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than automatic openers!
This can opener truely makes opening cans effortless. High quality and works great! ... Read more

The 8-inch fine-edged blade on this knife features slightly curved surfaces on both the back and the cutting edge, terminating in a sharp point. Part of the popular Four Star series, the hand-honed blade is slim and narrow to facilitate even, precise meat cutting and flexible enough to allow thin slicing. It is made with Henckels's Sintermetal Component Technology (SCT), which allows three different grades of steel to be combined to form a single piece, fusing together the blade, bolster, and tang. What does this mean in layman's terms? A strong, high-quality knife that will last a lifetime.

Amazon.com Review

This gorgeous, all-stainless knife is impressively designed and a functional implement for cutting hard cheese. The short, wedge-shaped blade and pointed end are ideal for chipping chunks from a Parmesan or Romano.

Part of Henckels’s Twin Collection of knives, this knife has a high-carbon, 18/10 stainless-steel blade. The blade, bolster, and tang are welded of one piece of metal using Henckels’s Sinter Metal Component Technology, which distributes the right quantities of metal to each part of the knife. The result is a longer-lasting edge and a more consistent angle on the blade. The blade has also undergone Henckels’s Friodur ice-hardening process, which further strengthens it and protects it from discoloration. The ergonomically designed satin-finish stainless-steel handle reduces wrist strain and prevents slipping while slicing. 4-0 out of 5 stars Be ware of the handle!
This knife fails in the ergonomics department. See that loop-like handle from the picture? Imagine you gripping it hard and you palm will start to complain because of the pressure exerted at the edges. Contrast this to a knife with solid, round handle.

Over the time I have already get used to this by holding the knife more skillfully, but I figure that I should share this design flaw with you.

Finally, I also want to add that this is a good cheese knife if I only evaluate the blade. So get it if you don't mind having to adjust to the weird shape of the handle. (Henckels must be trying to save material to cut the cost...)

5-0 out of 5 stars Not only excellent for cheese!
I have this knife and it has become my favorite all around knife.
The knive is nice and light and the blade is extemely sharp and thin. It is terrific for slicing tomatoes, onions and anything else that you want to slice nice & thin. I even use it on partially frozen meat to cut thin slices for stir fry. It doesn't matter what you are cutting, it's like cutting through butter! ... Read more

Plunge this 6-inch meat fork into a roast, chicken, turkey, ham, or corned beef, lift it to a serving platter or cutting board, then hold it firmly in place while carving precisely. It also retrieves baked potatoes from the oven. Henckels' International Classic is a moderately priced cutlery line made in countries other than the company's home of Germany. The super-sharp 2-3/4-inch cutting edge and ergonomic handle make this a top-notch peeling knife. Forged in Solingen, Germany, of a combination of ice-hardened carbon and stainless steel for edge retention, rust-resistance, and durability, this knife neatly removes any peel or unwanted blemish from fruit and vegetables. The knife's "curved beak" blade facilitates maneuvering in tight corners. When it is finally time to sharpen the edge of this knife, worry not, for it lends itself well to both a sharpening stone and steel.

The ergonomic polypropylene handle lies comfortably in your hand for strain-free use--and it's dishwasher-safe. Finally! Still, the best way to care for this knife is to hand wash it with a mild soap, rinse it well, and then immediately wipe it dry. A note of caution: This knife is easy to misplace because of its size. It's not uncommon for it to end up under the artichoke leaves and subsequently in the garbage. --Marcela Broussard ... Read more

This set of four 4-1/2-inch steak knives benefits from J.A. Henckels's 260 years in the cutlery business. They're made from high-grade, rolled stainless steel, produced using Henckels's own Sintermetal Component Technology. This process allows different grades of steel to be combined to form a single integral piece capable of withstanding extreme stress--each part of the knife is made from the grade of steel with the optimum characteristics for that component. Cutting edges feature a specially designed serration pattern, ensuring prolonged sharpness without resharpening. The full-length tang (meaning the metal continues all the way through to the end of the handle) gives you a better-balanced and stronger knife. The polypropylene handle with rustproof rivets is nearly indestructible. It's dishwasher-safe, but be careful that the blade doesn't touch other objects; hand washing is recommended to keep steel blades scratch free. --Doree Armstrong ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy Henckel !!
These are terrible, terrible knives. I returned both sets the day after I tried them. The serrations shred your food instead of cutting it. The handles are very cheap feeling and are not comfortable to use. The tiny serrations also make the knives very difficult to clean and considering the name "Eversharp" they sure didn't seem very sharp. You will be better off keeping that cheapo set you bought at walmart years ago.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed!
These knives have a finely serrated edge that tears at the steak leaving pieces of meat hanging on the edge. They rip the meat rather than slicing. I expected more from Henckels. A waste of money!

1-0 out of 5 stars Never again
These knives are terrible! The eversharp edge is finely serrated and tears the steak leaving pieces of meat hanging on the edges. It rips the food instead of cutting it. I thought the Henckels name would be better than this. Don't waste your money!

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed Purchaser
I will probable not be keeping these knives. They are large and heavy, not a tableware set at all. Maybe OK for BBQ setting since they remind me of a hunting knife. I do not feel the picture adequately identifies just how big these knives are.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice set of knives
This is a nice set of steak knives. I am not an advocate for serrated knives, but these knives are great. Henkels in my opinion is loosing their place in the knife business while progressively lowering their quality with inferior lines. I would prefer to have high carbon.
