Unhappy customer
This heater is a good heat producer BUT the heat tubes go out FREQUENTLY I thought maybe I just got a bad machine but after replacing THREE units and still having the same problem one must conclude that it just doesn't measure up

An ok heater
The good:
1. It does heat.
The bad:
1. When it turns on it makes a loud buzzing noise for about 30 seconds and then it quiets down. If you set the heater to keep a certain temperature (thermostat feature) this noise gets very annoying since the heater turns on and off repeatedly.
2. The heater has a few temperature and power settings (in all about 10 distinct settings). There is also just a single lonely button. To turn the heater on you press this button repeatedly to reach the desired setting. When you want to turn the heater off you press the same button until you reach the "off" position. So, you will be pressing this button a LOT.
To sum up:
If your environment is noisy as is and you planning to just set this thing to hold a particular temperature (60 - 80 in 5 degree increments) and never touch it again then you might want to consider this heater.

Not THAT loud, reliable
I'm impressed with it's ability to heat a medium sized room. I also noticed that the electric bill didn't increase much as a result of frequent use. I've had mine for two years and one side blew (don't ask me how). In any event, the unit has a 6 year warranty, so I will reutrn it for repair/ replacement. In the meanwhile, I will purchase another to hold me over until the original one returns. Yes, though half the unit blew out, I will buy another b/c it's not noisy and can heat a room faster than a fan forced heater.

Staying Warm But Awake
it makes a loud noise when you turn it on..and when the machine turns itself on it also makes a loud noise. loud noises are not cool when trying to catch some zzz. i recommened buying another product..oh yeah...the one touch buttons is a pain in the (EDITED)...its only one button, which you have to keep pressing to change the setting..

excellent space heater
This heater really does the job well when you only want to heat one room without running central heat,etc. We have had other quart heaters in the past, but this one is unique in that the fan spreads the heat to a wide area. Dream On If You Think THis Can Really Clean A Room
I bought this product for a fan sound when I sleep since I like that sound for sleeping. If you expect it to really clean anything, guess again. It is a small noise maker only and does not do what it is supposed to do, but in all fairness, virtually no aircleaners at any price really clean the air of dust, etc. I got in on an Amazon.com special about a year ago and since the price was so low, it has been an excellent investment for my purposes.

It must be doing something
If you have to replace the filter so often , can we ssume that is because the filter is dirty? Doesn't that mean it is removing some stuff from the air --which is what you want it to do???

Glad it was on sale...
Bought this on clearance and it was only worth the clearance price, in my opinion. Within 2 months, I had spent more on filters than I had on the actual purifier. No, it didn't clean the air well and it was very loud. I stopped using it after 2 months because it wasn't worth all the trouble of finding and buying the filters anymore.

For me this product works good but it needs a new filter every 1 1/2 months.

This machine is noisy and the filters? I can't find them anywhere! If I buy them online, they cost an arm and a leg! So, I've had this thing for about 2 years now, and since the filter only lasted for about a month, it's just been sitting there, collecting dust! So, I guess it's collecting dust in one aspect! A cheapie... that is very loud and not energy efficient.
With 100 watts and a tiny coverage, this purifier is not energy efficient. The HEPA filter replacement for this product is so overpriced that the difference between the filter and the complete unit is only about $5-$10. Worse, Holmes stated that the HEPA filter must be replaced on 3-6 months of continued use. That's a pretty short life.

Quiet? nah. In fact it ties on loudness (on mid setting) with my Hamilton Beach TrueAir 04161, just slightly quieter on high setting ,and actually louder in lowest setting. The sound produced is also a rough motor type sound, which is not so pleasant to hear.

Its CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate, a measurement standard for air purifiers -- www.cadr.org) is only a measly 55-70.

However, it does its job removing particles from the air quite well on high setting.

If you can, get a better air purifier that has a cheap and long lasting HEPA filter. ... Read more

Defective out of the box.
This product features a 'remote' that does not work. The fan section worked properly but the remote feature was important to me, and after wasting even more of my money to purchase extra batteries to ensure that it was not merely a battery problem, I attempted to return the unit to Amazon. Unfortunately, they refused to accept the return despite the defect because I had waited more than thirty days to open the unit. Amazon even refused to offer me a credit toward purchase of a working unit. To add injury to insult, the item sent to me had been previously returned by another customer who left the manual filthy and covered with fingerprints.

Overall, this is a cheap unit, and the fans work, so I would suggest purchasing the model without the remote if you must have a Holmes. But the best solution would be to steer clear of the brand entirely. And perhaps consider your local hardware store where reasonable requests for an exchange are honored.

Accutemp Plus deserves a Minus
Why minus?

The AccuTemp Plus design has been defectively designed,
based on erroneous inferences:

The 1st wrong inference was to assume that because the
max thermostat setting was designed to be 80 deg F a
2-digit readout would be OK.

The 2nd wrong inference was to assume that a readout
becoming erratic at 9x deg F would not feedback to the
motor control functions controlled by the thermostat.

The 3rd wrong inference was to disregard the overflow
problems, i.e., when the readout requires 3 digits.
Remember the Y2K problems because years were coded
as 2 digits?

The 4th wrong inference was Holmes QA/QC department
not thinking that the product could be shipped to Arizona
where summer temperatures are well above 9x deg F. In
fact, we expect 106 deg F for this afternoon and summer
is not yet here!

The 5th wrong inference was Holmes Customer Service
belief that only my unit was defective and that I should
exchange it.

I'll be drafting a web page in the near future discussing
"inferencing" problems ranging from consumer products to
