Over time, any household room can get stuffy and dank, especially in the colder months, when windows stay shut for months on end. Anyone with respiratory allergies knows how that stuffiness, which is the result of an increase in airborne particles, can affect the mere act of breathing. Not to mention the odors. The Holmes Odor Grabber Plus can scrub those particles out of the air with a High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter. Particles of dust, pollen, pet dander, mold spores, and even smoke larger than 2 microns are caught in the filters tiny screens. And there's an ionizing function that helps even smaller motes clump together, so they're big enough to get filtered out.

The Odor Grabber Plus is designed for a 70-square-foot room, or about 7 by 10 feet. The unit is a compact trapezoid of ivory plastic less than 9 inches tall, easy to place in an unobtrusive corner of the room. There are two control knobs, each with an indicator light--one for the two power settings, and one to turn the ionizer on or off. A manually adjusted dial knob marked with the calendar months serves as a reminder for when the filter will need changing. One replacement filter is included.

The outside of the unit can be cleaned with a damp cloth. The top air inlet grill can be washed in hot soapy water (not dishwasher-safe); it should be completely dry before being replaced on the unit. Big, but good.
I realized that I had a terrible dust problem in my office, so I bought this thing.

So far I have had it for a couple of days, and it has a noticeable amount of dust on the odor grabber part, so it surely is doing something.
When I opened the box, I was amazed of the sheer size of the thing! Its much bigger than I would ever have expected!
When turned on its lowest setting its very quiet but I noticed when turned on its 2nd and highest setting I was overwhelmed with the noise. Well after having it on for awhile I am used to the noise it makes, I guess its not really that bad.

Well worth your $30 or so American dollars...

Pros: Not too terribly loud, it works...

Cons: The filters cost more than a drunk hooker on a Monday at 12:00AM.....$15+ (a piece)! oh my, well deal with it.

I purchased the Holmes Odor Grabber simply because it was small and [inexpensive]. I couldn't be more pleased with it. This little unit lives up to it's name. It works amazingly well next to a kitty litter box. Reducing not only the odor but also the dust around the kitty litter box and in the air. Being able to purchase the inexpensive replacement filters at Amazon.com is a plus.

The best
After doing extensive research for an ice cream maker, I found this one at target for $15.00. I figured for that kind of money if it didnt work, then I was not out $50.00. This thing worked great. Easy to follow instructions and little to no prep work. I forgot to chill the aluminum canister, but 5 min in the freezer and it was ready to go (not 3 days like other models). The salt is a little messy the first time but I believe the next time it will be easier, now that I know what I am doing. The machine shut off when it was suppose to and the ice cream was ready to eat then (soft serve). I just packed it down with more ice and salt as directed and it was hard in about 20 minutes and if you want to harden in your freezer, the aluminum canister takes up no more space in your freezer that any other gallon store bought ice cream.

I did not think I would want this model because of the salt and ice, I wanted something less messy but this was so much fun, and reminds me of the old fashion bucket models (even though this is plastic, it matches my red kitchen, it will last longer). I highly recommend this maker for its easy use, the fact that it does exactly as described and you can decide at the last minute to make ice cream.

This Ice Cream maker is not like the picture.....
It's a newer model. It's makes great homemade Ice cream. But the machine is a little noicy.

Worked Like it Said
I received the Rival Ice Cream Maker 4 Qt from my Step Daughter after I had been pondering over buying one. We used the Vanilla recipe that was provided in the book.

Prep time was minimal even with the 1/2 hour chill time.
The machine did get louder and louder as the Ice Cream became thicker and closer to shut off.

The finished produce was a perfect fluffy Ice Cream but it had one MAJOR drawl back. If you use the recipe in the book..Do not use WHIPPING CREAM (or don't use the entire amount)if you do not want a lot of fat that sticks to the roof of your mouth! It had a great flavor but it was so fatty that it coated a spoon I used and layed on the cabnet top with a thick greasy goo!

I love homemade Ice Cream but need to find my Grandmothers old recipe. Hers never did that.

I still have to give it 5 stars because it did what it said it would do...it ran, shut off when supposed to. We will try and try again. ... Read more

Planned obsolescence?
I 'm afraid I have to concur with the previous reviewer.After going through three low-priced Holmes units in two years, I'm beginning to view them as disposable heat.The problem seems to be related to a safety fuse or circuit breaker that becomes defective and prevents the unit from staying on for more than a few seconds.The only recourse is to send the thing back to the company for repair, which at these prices is not a practical option.I finally invested a bit more in a Vornado, which is not only still kicking but kicks out more heat.
