Amazon.com Review

For those who need to be dressed to perfection for work, the FreeStyle Pro irons clothes to a flawless finish. This iron has unique steam channels in the front of its soleplate that precondition fabric before ironing even begins, cutting down significantly on ironing time. Fast results are also due to the smooth Eloxal soleplate that has quick gliding action and distributes powerful steam across its entire surface. The FreeStyle Pro also has a Power Shot button, which sends a single five-second blast of steam when either ironing horizontally or vertically steaming drapes or hanging garments. Another easy-to-reach button instantly stops the steam flow.

Other features of this iron include a unique textile protector that snaps over the soleplate. This attachment allows for full steam output while absorbing much of the heat, so it protects delicate fabrics and reduces the appearance of shiny patches on darker clothing. Safety precautions include a three-way automatic shutoff mechanism that turns the iron off if it rests for too long in either a horizontal, vertical, or side-lying position. This iron has an open handle with a rubberized grip for better maneuverability and more comfort during long ironing sessions. Braun covers this appliance with a one-year limited warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Unlike other reviewers, I think this iron rocks the house!
Being a single male working in a collared shirt world, I iron quite a bit. I have been through 3 irons in the last 4 years, spedning around 70 or 80 bucks on each one. I was ready to get a rewanda (or however you spell it) and then i noticed this one had a unique finish that was different from stainless. Being the risktaker I am, I went ahead and purchased this bad boy.
Even though the others reviewing this unit seem to think this iron is crap, I throughly enjoy mine. Trust me, I iron a hell of a lot.
My mom has one of those fancy smancy expensive Rawentas (or however you spell it, and I took this home to do some comparison for kicks and giggles. Ironically it appears to heat up faster than my mom's and the material on the iron plate cleans a whole hellua of a lot easier than stainless steel, in fact it beats the tar out of stainless steal.

i haven't had any leaks or the such from mine and i have been using it daily for about 2 years. I have probably knocked it off the ironing board at least 6 or 7 times, and it still is up and running like a champ.

i also like the grip on the iron.

i find using this bad boyto be a pleasant ironing expierience (even though i dont honestly like to iron).

Don't jump to conclusions with the other reviews. Maybe they got duds or something, but I can't complain a bit about mine. It also cleans very very easily. I do use water from my PUR filter, even though the manual says its not necessary. i'm not sure if this makes a difference or not, but it has stayed very clean and i see little or no calcium deposits. I don't even use the self cleaning thingy on it.

There are nicer irons out there i'm sure, and you will pay for them in price. At one time i thought it was important to have a heavy iron, but this one is pretty damn lightweight which seems to make it an ideal unit for those with lazy or weak arms,

Like i said, it steams better than any of my other previous irons and i would honestly rate it being as nice, or possibly better than my mom's Rawanta (or however you spell it). I'm not sure her model, but i knew it wasn't cheap (around 130 bucks).

Also the attachment piece that displaces the iron plate from your clothing works really good on slacks. i have some silk slacks that hang great after using it. That in itself makes me a happy ironer.

As for the others who had bad expieriences, i feel sorry for them. Braun is really good with customer service and i own a lot of thier products.
I'm surprised to see the other reviewers so disappointed. So if you are ballsy, give it a shot... the non-stainless type finish (some patented crap i can't remember what it is called) rocks the fact that the iron is pretty lighter in weight will leave you with plenty of zest to iron till the cows come home.

now that i think about it, maybe the other ironing 'pros' (?naive domesticated slaves?) might need to read the manual or something. it does offer a few pointers for a stellar ironing expierience. but then again who likes to read manuals right? :-)

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Impressed
I've used this iron for a couple of weeks now and really it does no better than the $25 Black & Decker I used to have. This one has more "bells and whistles" but really other than good steam I don't need a fancy looking iron. And that extra plate thingy they give you is a waste...in my opinion, I'll never use it.

There are also some problems with water spots/drips onto the fabric even after the iron is warmed up. I bought it at Bed Bath & Beyond for $60 so that's the only reason I'm keeping it :) If I ever need another iron I'll get a Rowenta.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad Product
I am on my second iron. They all shut off and do not turn back on, result water shoots out and stains clothes.

My second one will be returned ASAP.

1-0 out of 5 stars Any Iron will work better than this
I wouldn't recommend this iron to anyone!!, you could grab any iron and it'll perform better than this one. I brought this iron back in 2002 and it worked fine for like a month and ever since it has failed to perform all the special stuff it's suppose to do. The worst scenarios I face is when water drips out of the iron face plate. I'll try to return it back to braun if possible, I'm lazy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this iron.
I bought this iron in December 2002 and it has never worked properly. It shuts itself off in about a minute or two leaving watermaks on whatever I am ironing. It will not come back on unless I unplug and replug it. I am sending it back to Braun. ... Read more

With its open design and multiple options, the 1,500-watt Braun FreeStyle iron delivers both comfortable use and high-speed results. The iron features a scratch-resistant Durasteel soleplate constructed with a nonstick finish to glide easily and quickly. In addition to a spray function, the iron also includes variable, vertical, and Power Shot steam. Controlled with a dial, the variable option releases up to 15 grams of steam per minute. The vertical feature lets you steam clothes or draperies while they hang. The Power Shot delivers a blast of steam--65 grams per minute--for extra-stubborn wrinkles in either the horizontal or the vertical position. The iron’s 71 steam vents are distributed in a pointed arc across the soleplate for even dispersal, and a simple instant interruption button lets you halt steam immediately. The iron can also be used dry.

The FreeStyle’s distinctive open handle design is comfortable to hold and reduces the iron’s overall weight. It features a soft-grip surface and allows room for the power cord to wrap around the heel. Both steam and spray buttons are soft and easy to engage, and the translucent10-ounce water tank features a simple-to-fill hatch opening. Themin-max temperature dial works in conjunction with a fabric guide printed on the heel. Both right- and left-handers can secure the 8-foot pivoting cord out of the way in an integrated clip. 2-0 out of 5 stars Great design but not reliable
A search of available steam irons in retail stores convinced me this is the best design and value available. I bought it. Unfortunately, with less than 2 months of use, the temperature control has become defective, and there is no reasonable way to get this replaced. So, not such a good value for me. Sad.

After searching for the perfect iron for about a week, I have found it! Great surface on the bottom, great steam, glides easily and lightweight too! The handle is very comfortable. I love this product! ... Read more

One of Braun’s most powerful steam irons, this FreeStyle model not only gets clothing wrinkle-free--it also preconditions fabric, so ironing is quicker and easier. With 71 steam vents in its ultrahard and easy-gliding Eloxal soleplate, the 1,500-watt iron shoots steam both forward and laterally to prep fabric. Adjustable in the horizontal or vertical position, the variable steam dial ranges from 0 to 30 grams/minute and can be used to pause or interrupt steam instantly. The iron’s heavy-duty Power Shot feature targets stubborn creases with 85 grams of steam per minute. You can also use this model to spray iron or dry iron.

A lightweight, user-friendly structure, the iron’s open-handle design with soft, nonslip texturing allows for a comfortable fit in any hand. A dial controls temperature settings, and a built-in anti-calcification system helps cut down on mineral buildup. The translucent 10-ounce water tank has a clearly marked "max" line and is easy to refill, thanks to the included beaker.
