Amazon.com Review

This tool increases the fun factor of your KitchenAid stand mixer several times over. Toss cubes of meat into the food tray, stomp 'em down, and watch the results wriggle out the front. Grind your own beef or chicken for patties or tacos. Blend your own sausage mixtures, from breakfast to boudin blanc. With additional attachments, you can turn it into a pasta maker or a sausage stuffer. It's easy to assemble and use. Most parts are dishwasher-safe; hand wash the grinding blades, wooden stomper, and cutting knife. --Betsy Danheim ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the attachment workhorse
I've used this attachment more times than I ever thought I would. I've used it to prepare food items for my family as well as food items for crowds as large as 200 and regardless of what it is I've been making, this attachment has rolled through it without complaint. In combination with other pieces such as the sausage stuffer or the fruit attachments, you may well find that this single attachment stays on your machine the longest.

I am absoultely stunned at how easy it is to put together and how simple it is to get wonderfully ground items out of it. I've had no trouble grinding any cut of meat (marbled or lean), type of meat (venison, beef, pork, chicken), or state of meat (cooked or raw). Things like chickpeas also get ground just the way I like them. The two, differently sized grinding plates give you just what you need in texture. My biggest pleasure in using this attachment is during hunting season when my husband brings home more than one deer. Venison burger meat and sausage processing never went faster. No more late nights with a hand-crank grinder!

When you're done, there's nothing simpler in the cleanup. Nothing seems to stick to the plastic (plus, it's dishwasher safe!) and the metal pieces wash up quickly by hand. Even the little wooden stomper cleans well (and I've felt lost without it when I couldn't find it during sausage making). I think this attachment is the easiest to use of all of the ones I've tried.

I'll never regret the purchase of this attachment.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not for meaty bones
I bought this attachment thinking I would be able to use it to grind chicken wings and other small meaty bones to prepare the BARF diet for my dogs, but it definitely is not intended for that purpose. I have ground some meat with it, and it seems to mash more than grind, but perhaps I should have partially frozen the meat first before grinding as one of the package instructions suggested. I'm primarily posting this review for anyone searching for a meat grinder that is intended for bones in addition to meat. Keep looking - this one can't do it. The entire attachment gyrated and probably would have broken off the hub if I hadn't cut the power first, and I have the powerful professional 6.0 model stand mixer (which is great for large amounts of cookie dough, by the way - no more burnt-out hand mixers!). Check out the other reviews if you're just looking to make sausage or something, but if you're trying to become a BARFer, look elsewhere! I just ordered a VillaWare 5265-05 Power Grinder 320 on the advice of another reviewer, so I'll be sure to review that one once I receive it and see what it can do. Good luck!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great attachment, Most often used out of them all
I bought this attachment at the same time I bought two or three other attachments, and this is the one I use all of the time. I found that grinding meats to be very useful. I have a mother who is 88 and she prefers everything tender and juicy. So unless it is cooked until it is super tender, she doesn't eat it. With the Kitchen Aid FGA that is all solved. For example I buy chicken in large quantities when it is on sale, and grind it up. Adding shredded rye bread, some Italian seasoned bread crumbs , rosemary, and oregano in the mix, and I make a hamburger(chicken)-meat loaf, or meat balls that are tender. Without the food grinder, I would have to buy preground meat.
Their are those who find that the best way to buy chicken is whole, that way you can inspect the whole bird. By buying parts, they are able to cut out the unsightlies, and sell the parts. With preground meat that is even more of a concern. With the Food Grinder attachment, you have the option of handling that item whichever way you may choose.
Clean up is a snap. It almost falls apart, disassembly is that easy. Cleans up easily with some soap and warm water, or by putting it into the dishwasher. The cutting blades are handwashed. They appear to be high strength steel, and I am concerned about them getting lost in the wash, and degrading the finish. They clean up in only a minute. The rest of it goes into the dishwasher.
Even though the FGA is made out of plastic on the outside, the internal components are metal. It is very durable, and works without a snag. No jams, no problems. It attaches easily to the front of your Kitchen Aid stand mixer, and sits very securely. I expect it will last for a very long period of time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Perfect
This attachment for the kitchenaid stand mixer is great. This saves so much time when it comes to grinding up stuff. I used it mostly to grind carrots for when I baked carrot cakes. You can't find grinders that grind like this anymore. This attachment saved on buying an additional food processor that hardly works that well when it comes to grind up stuff.I like to grind and this is the next best thing (wink)

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for baby food!
I used this attachment to make loads of baby food for my son. It is so practical for grinding meats - especially if you are trying to feed organic foods. I found it easy to use on cooked meat, I never tried it on fresh or frozen.

I gave it 4 stars because it is a pain to clean. I cleaned the worm and grinder plates with a baby bottle brush and nipple brush.

Excellent gift for new moms who already own a mixer. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars MISLEADING ABOUT CAPACITY!!
I ordered this machine in mid Jan. The ONE and only thing that attracted me to this coffee machine was the 14 CUP capacity!! ....I was so excited to finally have enough coffee to last all morning without the need to make a second pot!! After waiting 4 months we finally used the new coffee pot this morning for the first time and to my dismay I hit the BOTTOM of the pot earlier than with my old MR COFFEE machine!!! ........So we did the capacity test, we filled the Mr Coffee carafe to the TOP line (12 cups) and poured it in to the KitchenAid 14 cup carafe....... I was in disbelief when it passed the 14 cup mark and went to the word MAX just above it!!....... This is no joke ......I can't even believe it!! Like I said, I wanted the highest capacity automatic coffee machine I could get, that was made for home use, all the other features were great, but it seems to me that I have been mislead. Needles to say I am returning my machineI had to spend about $35 dollars (in shipping fees) to find this out.Again I feel mislead!!
------I sent the ABOVE message to KitchenAid----------
and they said "when you fill the carafe up to the max level, remember that some of the water will be absorbed in the coffee ground and depending if the coffee ground is very coarse or fine will determine how much water will brew through the brew basket into the carafe" They also said "KitchenAid will not mislead any consumer based on what our products can do" I SAY BULL!!! when I filled the Mr COFFEE carafe to 12 cups and poured it over to the KitchenAid carafe, IT seriously filled to ABOVE the 14 CUP mark to the MAX MARK!!! Are they telling me that Mr Coffe has a 14 cup Coffee maker and don't even know it??

1-0 out of 5 stars TERRIBLE! Avoid This Unit At All Costs!
I am on my third expensive KitchenAid coffee-maker, and they ALL have tne same software problem!

KitchenAid has apparently released a "beta" version, and it DOES NOT MAKE COFFEE! Plus, you get to argue with their "unconditional warranty" people about getting the unit replaced.

Apparently KitchenAid isn't what it once was! If you want a cup of coffee, this isn't the way to get it!

1-0 out of 5 stars Three days and this thing died on me!
I pre-ordered this unit on Amazon back in February, and it finally shipped out to me arriving on March 16th.I note now that the the unit is now again on backorder, which is a bit odd.Anyway, I ordered this unit to replace my Cuisinart Grind & Brew, which never managed to brew a truly hot cup of coffee since the day I first started using it.

The KitchenAid is a nice looking unit. It's easy to use and the design is clever.I was a little surprised at how deep the unit was - it's substantially deeper than the Cuisinart, so the footprint it occupies on the counter is a little larger. It's not substantially larger, but enough that I notice the loss of space.

The coffee this machine brews is wonderful. It is piping hot, and tastes great. It also brews quickly, which is a bonus on those bleary-eyed mornings! There is an indicator on the display that shows you how long the coffee has been brewed - a boon to those of us who like to avoid burnt Joe.

So, all well and good, you might thing? Not quite. On the third day of operating this machine, I came downstairs, filled the reservoir, added the coffee and pressed the Power button.Nothing happened, apart from an error message on the LCD.I took out the manual, read the instructions for dealing with an 'Err1' and it told me to turn the machine off and try again.Which I did.Five times.I even unplugged it for an hour and came back to it later.Same error message. The manual said if the error repeated, there is likely a problem with the electronics in the unit, and to contact KitchenAid support.

I did contact support and they are sending me a new machine (part of the KitchenAid "Hassle Free" warranty - personally, I'd rather have a hassle free purchase, than a hassle free warranty!), but again it's on backorder. So now I am back to the Grind & Brew, and lukewarm warm coffee for a few more weeks.

I expected more of the KitchenAid name.An appliance that functions for three days is, in my opinion, a disgrace. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The more you use it, the more you will love it.

I absolutely love my KitchenAid mixer.I like to bake and always use my mixer.I use it to mix cake batters and knead dough.Cakes come out perfect every time. The mixer is a necessity for every baker's kitchen. It is a durable product and will last a lifetime. The mixer is well built and well designed.Cleanup is easy too.Just remove the bowl and beater and wash by hand or in the dishwasher. The mixer comes with one bowl, kneading hook, flat paddle beater and whisk-type beater. There are also many accessories available for the KitchenAid mixers.

I recommend the KitchenAid mixer for every kitchen. The more you use it, the more you will love it.

3-0 out of 5 stars I wish I could give it 10 stars
I have owned my mixer for serveral years. How I raised my five boys without it is still a question. I love the fact that I can walk away while it is mixing when recipes call for long periods of beating.I also love the durabilily of its moter. We live in hurricane country and my husband knows that if we have to leave in a hurry "turbo tillie" gets a frount seat pass.Cannot live without it.
Jan
Surfside Beach
Texas

5-0 out of 5 stars I would like to give this 5+ stars!!
I love this mixer! We got it as a wedding present and I have just gotten around to using it after 5 months.I was real scared at first because I have used hand mixers before and stuff goes everywhere...but this one is awesome! I can't wait to make Christmas cookies!!!I love it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars So much fun to use!
I have always wanted a KitchenAid Stand Mixer, but always believed it was meant to be a wedding gift.I was so excited to get it as a wedding gift from my mother-in-law.I had to use it immediately!

I've used it to make a couple of cakes and it was so much easier than the old way using my hand mixer. It was quick and easy cleanup and fun to use.Plus, the cakes tasted awesome!

I also used it to mix hamburger meat with bread crumbs and egg.It was a lot easier than doing it by hand--not as much of the messy egg on my hands.

It was the best wedding gift I got.My husband didn't understand why, but it is awesome!I love it.

I recommend getting another bowl and lids.I do a lot of cookie baking and it is nice not to have to transfer bowls when starting a new batch.

5-0 out of 5 stars you'll never put it away!
I received the KitchenAid Ultra power Stand mixer for a recent wedding present and already find myself using it everyday. I have just returned from three years in West Africa as a Peace Corps volunteer and the preservatives in American foods were bothering both my husband and me. I now use the KitchenAid mixer for everything from wheat bread to mashed potatoes and stiff-but-not dry egg whites. It lives on the countertop. The only problem is that it is difficult to add flour while the beater is down--not much room. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great set, super price!
I received this set today and put it to work right away! Straight out of the box, I was impressed with the professional quality of this cookware. These are sturdy pots and pans with wonderful heavy glass lids that I should never have to replace. I chose this set for five reasons: 1)It had three saucepans, a 10" skillet and a 12" skillet. If you have a large family, this is a must. 2)The hard anodized non-stick coating has a lifetime warranty. 3)Glass lids allow me to monitor what I'm cooking without lifting the lid. 4)KitchenAid brand--the quality speaks for itself. If you don't have a KitchenAid stand mixer, I can't recommend it highly enough. 5) Amazon offers this set at a great price and FREE shipping. Can't beat it.
That said--a couple of items worth noting that aren't mentioned in the description:
This set is not dishwasher safe, but that really isn't a problem since nothing sticks to it. It cleans up very easily. When storing these pots and pans, place a towel between items to prevent scratching.
This is a great set and I look forward to using it for many, many years to come. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Accolade
I only have had the Accolade mixer for 1 week, but so far so great!

5-0 out of 5 stars Kitchen Aid Accolade
I have nothing but praise for the accolade.I had an Artisan, but I found it didn't work well with my Christmas cookie dough. The accolade had plenty of power to do that and more without taking up all of my kitchen space. My son is a Williams Sonoma employee, and was able to get me a good deal on the dijon color.Their price was originally $329, so that makes the Amazon price pretty good.

1-0 out of 5 stars Two strikes and it's out
I thought "don't buy the first release" applied to computer software, not kitchen appliances, but I've learned my lesson. The first time out of the box it was clear something was really wrong with the gears - it went from "stir" to way-too-fast, finally shutting itself off.None of the gears worked.

I exchanged it and the second one lasted for only one batch of meringues. It developed an evil sounding knock.

I don't want to try a third one, and right now I'm thinking about my options.

In any case, if you buy an Accolade, make sure you save the box and packing material.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kid brother of the 575 watt Professional 600 TM Series
Do you have a couple of ovens to load up all at once? Then maybe you need the Hobart-styled Pro model! But if not - if you work out of an ordinary home kitchen - check out this Accolade version of the classic KitchenAide stand mixer.

What's the difference? Not much... except the price.

The Accolade has a 5 qt. fixed bowl and a tilting head, instead of the racked up and down 6 qt. bowl on the Pro model. Many users find the tilting head more convenient, and now that the Accolade tilt models lock the head in both up and down positions, there should be no occasion to miss the greater rigidity of the fixed head Pro models.

The Accolade's 400 watt motor can handle whatever you like, just so long as you remember to keep the speed down on the 2 setting on really heavy, very high gluten dough. The exact same thing has been said for the 575 watt Pros - but they will take on about 20% more dough, if need be.

Both machines now have soft-start motors and electronic controls which help maintain their selected speeds. Both have all steel gears, reportedly. The Pro looks a bit bigger on the counter and it definitely weighs a couple of lbs. more, but neither machine is small or lightweight! They need their weight and solidity to do what they do so well.

I admit that I was originally coveting my neighbor's Pro model, but in the after-holidays sales wars my local Williams-Sonoma put their remaining Accolade models 'in Autumn colors' to steep discounts - below two hundred and just over half what the 'regularly discounted' Pro would have cost. One week into my ownership, I have nothing but praise for the machine.

Amazon.com Review

Pound for pound, a good hand mixer is perhaps the most laborsavingkitchen device. While my grandmother relied on arm strength and force of will tobeat a stiff dough or to mash potatoes, a light and easily maneuvered hand mixersaves time and muscles. This one from KitchenAid features seven-speed digitaltouch control for precision mixing, and an electronic sensor that will adjustthe power as you go, so you maintain a steady mixing speed. If you're beating adelicate batter, you can use the Soft Start feature and ease into faster speed. When you're finished, the beaters are easily ejected. If you've ever battledheavy doughs, you'll appreciate the beaters' design: they don't have a centerpost, so dough won't collect in the middle of the beater and clog the machine. It's also designed for easy cleaning. --Laura Cuthbert ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Another wonderful little powerhouse from KitchenAid
You know there are times when you just don't want to haul out the big mixer, right? Well, being the holiday hostess for my large extended family, my Irish brothers love their mashed potatoes. When I have a holiday dinner and my countertops are loaded with lots of other wonderful holiday dinner foods waiting to be served, hauling out the big mixer is just not an option. Out comes this handy little KitchenAid hand mixer! In a jiffy, this little powerhouse mashes the potatoes and then away it goes so dinner can proceed as needed. It's a really cool tool and I'm glad to have it at times like that. Also, I have pulled it out to mix pancake batter, sometimes cake batter, and other easy to mix items. It's easy to wipe down and the beaters pop right off to go into your dishwasher. Easy clean, easy to use, easy storage -- what more could you want?

2-0 out of 5 stars Not enough power...
This Kitchenaid mixer looks great, works flawlessly, but really underperforms. It's a seven-speed model, but I had to switch to another standup mixer to whip cream because the Kitchenaid hand mixer just wasn't fast or powerful enough. A real disappointment...

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Hand Mixer!
This KitchenAid hand mixer is a must! It is perfect, I use it all the time to mix cake batter, cookie dough (with the dough beaters), eggs, brownie mix and pancake mix. It always gets the job done quickly and easily. The digital LED allows you to easily see the speed you are mixing at and to increase or decrease the speed all you do is touch the up or down button. It has an on off switch in addition to the stop/start buttons to prevent any accidents. I love my 5 quart KitchenAid Artisan stand mixer but I have to admit I use this hand mixer 10 times more often! It is very easy to clean and worth every penny.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Awesome
I was able to purchase this at another retailer for a steal as it was on clearance. This item is so awesome! Im not sure why someone gave it one star...you can take it back if you only used it 5 times and its covered under warranty, OR if not they could have called KitchenAid and they would have been able to help to get it replaced. Alas, it was problably just abuse. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Another short-lived product
This little wonder lasted about six uses before the motor died. Whipping cream, mixing a light batter--that was all that was ever asked of it. In the middle of a simple recipe, after runing no more than five minutes, with intervals between each minute of mixing, it failed: no power light, no response to control pad, no nothing (and yes, the power switch was turned on). This is not my first Kitchen Aid mixer, but it will certainly be my last. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

This is the blender of the future. It performs all the traditional blending tasks (crushing ice for margaritas, thinning ice cream) plus it can be used like a food processor (mincing garlic, puréeingpeppers). The wide jar is rounder and squatter than old-style blenders, which makes it easier to reach in and scrape the sides (when the blender is off!). To reduce splatters of strawberry daiquiri, the Step Start feature starts blending slowly, then picks up to the chosen speed. This blender also comes with a booklet containing 75 recipes--my favorite is the Frosty Chocolate Raspberry Latte. --Dana Van Nest ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The blender
This blender sets itself apart from other blenders in a couple of important ways. Its glass is shorter and wider than other blenders, and this in combination with the shape of the blades makes it very difficult for stuff to hand about and not get blended. Also, it is a powerhouse. It has a fat motor and just will not let you down. But, and this is possibly my favorite, the cord wraps up neatly in the base for clutter free storage. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

When mixing up big batches of cookies or bread with a KitchenAid mixer, you don't want to have to stop to wash the bowl. An extra bowl to fit the mixer is a welcome addition to a kitchen arsenal, and this bowl earns its place in the cupboard, because it will also be used as a versatile mixing bowl independent of the mixer. It's made of thick polished stainless steel with a brushed steel interior and a flat base to rest securely on the counter. I has a sturdy handle and two brackets for fitting into the mixer. Its superb quality will last through a lifetime of cooking. --Marcie Bovetz ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What could more helpful?
When you are cooking, and in a bit of a time crunch the extra bowl can be so helpful. I use mine when I am making cookies, sometimes I make two different kinds at once, and I am good to go. Or when I am making a cake, and I want to prepare everything at once, and come back and frost the cake later. I hate to stop what I am doing to wash one bowl to use it again. If you do a lot of cooking and you are short on time this might be a good purchase for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars I know it's only a bowl...
but if you use a KitchenAid mixer, you need an extra one of these!! It is not so much a luxury as a necessity if you do a fair amount of cooking and baking.
Pros: It's exactly like the one that came with your mixer. It's dishwasher safe, it stays looking new for eons.
Cons: None. Unless you like washing dishes in the middle of your cooking.
Recommendation: Having 2 bowls has made a big difference for me, and it will for you too!

5-0 out of 5 stars My mom loves it, and she's a sharp mom...
This is a surrogate review for my mom. We "kids" gave this to her as a gift recently, and she says it's great. She said she'd felt like she was cleaning her mixing bowl nonstop when she used her Kitchenaid mixer, but with this extra bowl, she can get things done faster and easier. (That means more cookies, and faster.)

Who can argue with a mom? It must be a darn good bowl.

5-0 out of 5 stars You Can Never Have Too Many Mixing Bowls
When this bowl was offered in my gold box shortly before Christmas I snapped it up. This is the third bowl I own for my beloved Kitchen Aid stand mixer. When you do as much baking as I during the holidays it's lovely to not have to wash up between each batch of cookie dough.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's a spare bowl, what more can you say?
If you already own a kitchenaid mixer, you know what this bowl looks like. (If you don't own a kitchenaid mixer, why are you ordering this?)

If you're considering this versus the 3 quart spare bowl: the 3-quart nests in the original 4.5 bowl that comes with the mixer, which this one doesn't. This one has a handle though, which matters more than you may think when you're twisting the bowl out of the socket.

If you're considering this for storage, consider also the plastic storage lid, also available from Amazon[.com]. (They conveniently come two to a package). ... Read more

This attachment saves time, elbow grease, and quite possibly your knuckles! It makes quick work of chopping nuts or shredding cheese, carrots, etc. Clean up could not be easier - simply disassemble the attachment's 3 pieces and pop them in the dishwasher. I do recommend keeping a pair of pliers handy because after use, the steel shredder cup is difficult to detach from the center shaft. Although this attachment is awkward to store due to its shape, its benefits far outweigh this minor drawback. I recommend this as an essential additional purchase for anyone who owns a KitchenAid stand mixer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than a Food Processor
I keep my stand mixer on the counter, so this attachment is actually easier to use and less clean up than my food processor. Simply plug in, turn on and go. Also shreds better and faster than my food processor. Cheese, especially, comes out great with this, although I've used it to shred vegetables too with excellent results. Definitely worth the money.

NOTE: To remove the cone from the rotor, unplug the machine, take the whole attachment off the mixer, then just put the rotor, with cone, back into the slot and twist gently. Pops off in a flash.

3-0 out of 5 stars Life's too short to fight with appliances
Although these attachments did a good job of slicing & shredding, I found it difficult to get the cones off after I was finished. The cones get jammed in there somehow, & it's a royal pain to unjam them. I wasn't slicing & shredding large batches of vegetables, so I don't know why this happened. Be that as it may, because of this experience, I sold them & bought another food processor.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Food Processor Is Easier
I just love Kitchen Aid. I own the stand mixer with every attachment that it comes with, the blender, and I'm about to purchase the food processor to replace my old one that is not a kitchen aid.
This particular attachment has not been very useful for me. I tried to shred and slice onions, and celery but neither of them worked. Carrots on the other hand come out great, but how many carrots can you eat?
I have found that using my food processor works much better I end up chopping every thing, but I can deal with that. The only other thing I could think of to use this for is cheese. However, once it's all shredded the cheese begins to dry out, even if it's in tupper ware. So you have to use the cheese up in about a week.
If you are debating on which accessories to buy here is my advice. I like the Vegetable Strainer best, then the Food Grinder, Rotor Slicer/Shredder, and finally the Pasta Maker Plates. As a side note I use my stand mixer about 2 - 3 times a week, and I only used my accessories once in a blue moon. Save your money and kitchen storage space and use a food processor instead.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Tool
This is a great tool for shredding and grating cheese. Simple and clean-up is easy. The slicer attachments work, but aren't as effective as the slices don't come out even (stick to a mandolin for perfectly even slices). Still though, with my mixer on the counter, this beats pulling out the food processor to do the same work. ... Read more
