Hats off to the designers of appliances that perform multiple functions! After all, what kitchen couldn't benefit from more efficient use of limited space? The Krups FDH212 10-cup automatic rice cooker is also a slow cooker and a food steamer; select among those three modes and then, if necessary, set the time using the touch buttons on the control panel. The time counter shows remaining cooking time on a two-digit display. After cooking in any mode, the Krups rice cooker will shift to a keep-warm mode; the switch-over is noted by an orange indicator light on the control panel. In its most basic function, this rice cooker yields up to 20 cups of cooked rice. But it's also useful for all the typical slow-cooker dishes; soups, stews, chili, etc. An enclosed booklet includes recipes that range from the home-style Yankee Pot Roast to the fancier Casablanca lamb and apricot stew, as well as including simple cooking instructions for rice.

This is a lovely appliance, too--modern curves in gleaming stainless steel with high-gloss black lid and accents. The lacquer-black lid has a large, curved, stay-cool handle and a click-close lock with a gray release button. On the underside of the lid, a removable steam shield helps keep the scalding steam away from the lid and directs moisture back into the food. The deep nonstick cooking bowl is removable for easy cleaning; a sturdy black plastic steaming rack rests inside the bowl to suspend food above the water. One small but very considerate feature is a condensation collector; a channel running under the edge of the closed lid conducts condensation droplets to a small catch pocket on the side. A small plastic measuring cup and black plastic rice paddle (with attachable spoon rest) come with the cooker.

To preserve the nonstick coating of the cooking bowl, use wooden, plastic, or rubber utensils. Vinegar--used in the cooking of short-grain sushi rice--may corrode the nonstick surface over time. To clean the body of the rice cooker, wipe with a damp cloth and then wipe dry; the appliance is not immersible. The removable steam shield, steam basket, and nonstick cooking bowl can be washed by hand or in the dishwasher. To re-season the bowl after every few rounds in the dishwasher, wipe the inner surface of the bowl with a little cooking oil. Do not use abrasive scrubbers or cleansers on any part of the rice cooker. The Krups FDH2121 rice cooker measures 11 inches in diameter and 11-1/2 inches high. It comes with a detailed instruction and recipe booklet. Krups guarantees this product with a one-year limited warranty. --Garland Withers ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Dandy little appliance!
I like multi function appliances but sometimes it's case of a jack of all trades master of none. But this machine is nifty - does the basic rice cooking, steams and is also a slow cooker. Very useful for the price (you can get it cheaper at Kitchen Universe by the way I wonder if they will print this now that I've written it)
The steamer basket is too shallow so you have to keep the things you are steaming to a minimum height otherwise it sticks to the lid. That's my only complaint so far

Buttons can feel a little cheap but they work great ... Read more

By combining a regular coffeemaker and espresso machine, this1500-watt appliance makes it possible to satisfy every coffee cravingwith a single, compact unit. Separate water tanks permit simultaneouscoffee and espresso brewing for satisfying everyone at once. Theespresso-machine side includes a steam nozzle with a foolproof frothingattachment for creating coffee drinks like cappuccino and café latté.Making espresso follows tradition: tamping the proper amount of coffeeinto a filter basket inside a filter holder, twisting the filter holderonto the machine, pouring water into the machine's boiler, and twistingthe control knob, which instantly goes from the off position to brewingespresso or frothing milk. Depending on the amount of water, up to four2-ounce cups will then be brewed into an 8-ounce glass carafe.

Making regular coffee also adheres to tradition: inserting a filterinto the filter basket, spooning in coffee, pouring water into thecoffeemaker's tank, and pressing a button. Depending on the amount ofwater, up to ten 5-ounce cups of coffee will then be brewed into a50-ounce glass carafe, which sits on a warming plate. Removing thecarafe from the warming plate pauses the brewing process for 20 secondsto accommodate a midbrew pour. A programmable digital clock/timer makesit possible to brew wake-up coffee at a selected time up to 24 hours inadvance. For safety, the machine automatically shuts off two hoursafter brewing. The machine has a bright plastic exterior, measures 13inches wide, 12 inches high, and 10 inches deep, weighs 4-3/4 pounds, and carries a one-year warranty against defects. An illustrated bookletprovides clear operating instructions. --Fred Brack

5-0 out of 5 stars 8 Years Old and Still Works Flawlessly
I bought this unit 8 years ago and it hasn't skipped a beat. I've made coffee with it almost every day and it still works as well as the day I bought it. It's performance is nothing short of remarkable. I recommend cleaning it with 1/2 strength vinegar at least once a year to remove mineral deposits.

As far as the espresso function, I've used it sporadically but have always been impressed with the quality of the foam/brew. I couldn't imagine a better performing coffemaker in terms of appearance, quality, and function for the price.

When and if this unit fails, I will definitely buy another Krups model.

5-0 out of 5 stars Solid performer
I have the previous version of this machine which I have used practically every day for about the last 10 YEARS! And it works just fine. The large 10 cup pot/section is easy to clean, easy to pour, makes good coffee. The espresso part I have used daily since returning from Spain this last April, and it works very well. I really can't think of anything this machine should do that it doesn't. When using the frothing milk attachment you are going to have to clean it, but you really can't make great coffee without making a little mess. Does everything it should, does it well, been doing it for a long time.

2-0 out of 5 stars Espresso Schmesso!
Recently bought this product after my old machine, a combo like this one, finally gave out after 13 years. Right off the bat the espresso side isn't working. Water goes through okay by itself, but when there's coffee in the filter I only get about 2 cups of product when I poured in 4 cups of water! I'll be calling soon to either get this fixed or to send it back.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a mistake to purchase this product
I have had Krups products before so when I wanted to own a dual machine I looked up different reviews and picked this one. Wish someone had told me what a problem that would be. First the espresso machine broke after 1.5 months of use!!! I called to get it fixed and even though I sent in the registration card, they have no way of confirming my purchase so officially it isn't under warranty. In addition, even though I live in a major metropolitan area (DC) the closest service center is 1.5 hours away. I am suppose to drive 3 hours to fix a machine that broke so soon? Not helpful and wish I didn't have a broken machine. Waste of money.

5-0 out of 5 stars great machine!!!
Ok, I have the older version that doesn't have the timer. It was a wedding gift over 7 years ago. We used this machine (both coffee and espresso sides) daily sometimes several times a day and it wasn't until recently that we had problems.

We made the mistake of not cleaning with vinegar on a regular basis and ended up clogging the espresso side because of our hard water. The coffee side still works, but I miss my morning mocha latte. :( Technically, I did fix the espresso side by using Lime Away, but can't get that smelll and taste out of the coffee for it to be safe to consume. So, my advice is to clean with 1/2 vinegar 1/2 water on a regular basis and stay away from Lime Away.

So, I'm back in the market for an espresso machine and we will purchase a new Krups dual machine as soon as we get a water softener. In the meantime I'm purchasing a cheap espresso machine, as the "coffee shop" trips are becoming too frequent and cost too much.

As for people complaining about the sturdiness of htis machine - I don't know what they are talking about. I have NEVER had a problem with the plastic breaking or anything like that. Also, I've never experienced leaks in 7 years. Of course, I loved my machine and took care of it too - with the exception of removing hard water build up.

Oh yeah, the coffee tastes awesome. I'm not a lover of strong coffee, but we have always purchased beans and ground them ourselves. So, our coffee is fresh and tastes wonderful. I highly recommend this machine for the coffee lover. ... Read more

Grilling burgers, chicken, fish, steaks, and Italian-style sandwiches (panini) with no fuss or mess is easy with this handsome, chrome-clad, countertop grill. The top and bottom grilling plates make cooking twice as fast as in a pan, impart appetizing grill marks, and, with their nonstick coating, release food easily and wipe clean with a cloth.Key to the grill's professional performance is a floating hinge system that automatically adjusts to a food's thickness for even grilling top and bottom. The grill's handle stays cool during operating, indicator lights show when the grill is on and when the proper cooking temperature has been reached, and the latch locks for compact, upright storage. 5-0 out of 5 stars This Krups Panini machine is the Greatest!!!
I love this machine. It's hot, it's fast, and it makes the crunchiest thin sandwiches in minutes. I use the olive spray on the outsides, and either ham, turkey or chicken slices, or grilled veggies, all with a little cheese on the insides. Thin tomato slices with some mozzerella and basil leaves are also great as well as a little brie with just about anything. Use your imagination. I like the idea of the small, gourmet style sandwiches for today's eating. The flatter the bread, the better but the pain rustique bread at Costco works quite well too. Just measure each slice about 2 1/2 inches wide, cut it in half horizontally and fill. Or the straight grilled slices make great crostini and I just top it with an olive spread or a tomato, garlic and basil bruschetta, or a tuscan white bean spread with rosemary. Make them any size you wish. Guests love them with a nice Chianti either for an appetizer or a snack. I will keep my grill for panini and not use it for meat. It's easy to clean; I usually wipe it with a paper towel. It's truly a quality piece of work and I'm totally satisfied with my purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars 2 Steaks, 7 minutes.
I got my Krups grill for Christmas, I have wanted one for quite awhile. It makes perfect panini, and grilled cheese, but last night for New Year's eve we tried 2 bacon wrapped (1 1/4 inch thick) beef tenderloins. My rule of thumb with steaks (rare to medium rare)is about 3 minutes per side at VERY high heat. I have a Weber Genesis grill (outside of course) and in about 15 minutes it can reach over 500 degrees. Unfortunately this Krups does not come with any recipes (Other than the non-Krups, but delightful cookbook that does come with it.) so there is some guess work involved. But since it does also get VERY hot, and since the lid (Unlike George F's plastic) is HEAVY, I figured
about 3.5 minutes for the steaks. They turned out perfect!
Perfect crossed grill marks, just make sure you preheat until the light goes out.
I highly recommend this product, even considering the one
voice that expressed concern about the lack of a grease drain.
I will just not cook foods with high grease. Simple.

3-0 out of 5 stars Hot Panini
This grill was a recent purchase after returning from a trip to Italy. While the grill heated quickly, I did make contact with the hot side of the top handle (Ouch).
The sandwich prepration and grilling went realitively smooth. To cleanup the grill when done was a challenge. When I cleaned the top grill plate, most food particles fell to the counter top. The lower grill plate proved to be even more challenging. There is no way to remove the lower grill plate, so I placed the grill on it's side to let the food that was cleaned off drop to paper towels placed on the counter.
I will probably use it only for sandwich making, I cannot posibly foresee grilling meat in it and trying to remove the resedue from the bottom of the grill.
Instructions on how to prepare other foods such as meat and fish with this universal grill were zero.

2-0 out of 5 stars Loved it, but mysteriously dead
I have owned this panini grill for about 9 months and used it regularly. I loved every sandwich and grilled meat that I cooked in it. But one Saturday, I plugged it in as usual to make my favorite grilled cheese and it was dead, although it had worked perfectly well the day before.

4-0 out of 5 stars GREAT GRILL!
After reading the reviews I decided to buy this panini maker.
I just got it 2 days ago and I have already used it 4 times. It makes great paninis, quesadillas and grilled cheese sandwiches in minutes. My only complaint is that the handle was cracked at both ends. Because it is heavy I don't feel like paying to send it back. The cracks do not affect the performance but it it a little annoying. Not sure if it is because Amazon did not package it well or if it was the manufacturer's fault. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Too complicated
Based on previously posted reviews I bought this item. Big mistake. Unless you are an unemployed nuclear physicist (genius with endless amount of free time) you would be better served with a $30 Mr. Coffee espresso machine. Had to send it back.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great espresso maker for those on a budget
If, like me, you love coffee, especially lattes and cappucinos, but have more taste than dollars, this is the espresso maker for you.

It's an inexpensive pump machine which really does deliver the goods: fast espresso and frothy milk.

After testing it out today, I feel fully caffinated for the first time since I moved to the Great Plains from the Northwest.

I used the bottom of the line Krups espresso maker back in the day, and then used an inexpensive Capresso for the last six years, until it finally died.

Shopping at my local housewares store, I was drawn to this one because of its attractive form factor, and the fact that it wouldn't overpower my small kitchen. I'm an artist and aesthetics are important to me and this machine has a nice clean design.

I was skeptical that an inexpensive pump machine could really deliver, but this one does. I love not having to wait to pull a second espresso.

And let's face it: Krups has the milk frothing thing down. Nobody makes a frothier frother than Krups.

I confess I thought that espresso pods were overpriced and entirely unnecessary. I'm glad that Krups included a sample of the Illy pods, because after using them, I'm hooked. Just 20 seconds, and you have a lovely espresso with a nice crema.

There's a lot to be said, especially in the morning, for no measuring or cleanup and there are sources for more affordable pods at from Espressione and Terrafazione. I've ordered the Terrafazione ones, as I'm homesick for the Northwest, and I intend to try them both.

Some hints:

Do warm up the machine, as instructed. Then you'll have nice, HOT espresso.

The see through water window is almost impossible to see in my kitchen. Others have suggested putting a ping pong ball (!) or other plastic ball inside as a gauge. I think I'll just get in the habit of topping off the water level before I make coffee.

If you have a large milk steaming pitcher, as I do, I find it much easier to use the frother if I put the entire coffee maker on a wooden cutting board. This raises the frother another 3/4 of an inch or so, making it easier to get the pitcher underneath.

Be warned that there isn't a lot of clearance between the filter holder and the bottom of the machine, so you won't be able to use tall cups. I have some oversize but wide cups I like to use for lattes, and they just fit.

With this espresso maker, and a low tech French press, all my coffee desires are satisfied.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for the price
We've been using this machine for about three weeks and have few complaints. The biggest problem is temperature. In order to get really hot coffee I recommend you run your espresso cups under scalding hot water for thirty seconds or so before you make the coffee. The "warming plate" on top of the machine is useless. There are some slight leaking problems but it's not that big a deal so long as you make sure that water doesn't leak into the cups while espresso is being made (you will dilute your drink). Heating milk and making froth is easy but you should read the instructions thoroughly and practice. I feel like I haven't yet figured out how to do this properly. The pods work great but aren't cheap. Wiping out coffee grinds when not using the pod can be cumbersome. Overall we're satisfied with the machine.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for now...but will it last?
The Novo 3000 was exactly what we were looking for in a machine and in the exact price range. It is very easy to use and heats up so fast. Very professional machine indeed for the money. The crema is awesome and the froth is the best, like white clouds of love atop your mocha. I made an investment and like burned coffee I have been burned before on other machines...please God let this one be different, so far so good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy Barista
I have had this unit for several months. It replaced a 14 year old Grangaggia that I had rebuilt several times. The quality of the espresso is very consistent and even makes common coffee taste good. If you like froth this machine will put a head on that steamed milk sometimes to excess. Easy to use and easy to clean. I use mine daily. ... Read more

This espresso/coffeemaker by Krups is one fine combination. On the coffee side it has a 24-hour programmable clock/timer that lets you set the current time and program the timer for "wake-up" coffee. With a 10-cup serving capacity the coffeemaker automatically shuts off after two hours for added safety. And for the impatient coffee lover, there's "stop 'n' serve," which allows you to remove the carafe at any time during the brewing cycle for up to 20 seconds, serve, then replace on warming plate for continued brewing. The removable filter holder swings away for convenient refills and easy cleanup. The double-wall construction keeps heat from escaping during brewing, preserving coffee's aroma and flavor. The espresso/cappuccino side has an advanced system that ensures quick heat-up time and a rotary steam knob that enables you to steam milk or dispense hot water for tea. The "perfect froth" attachment produces great looking, tasty froth. The 37-ounce removable water reservoir produces continuous cups of espresso, so it can please a crowd. --Jane DePaolo

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Nice Well Made Machine
Well After looking at other combination machines I settled on this one. I was rather nervous after reading some of the reviews on this site, as I hadn't seem them before ordering it. But as usual you have to take alot of the dribble on here with a grain of salt. After setting it up and running a couple of pots through it (no the handle didnt fall off of the pot)I made two demi's of espresso, even with a french roast and a hasty regrind of the "drip" ground coffee I had in the freezer it was one of the most delicious "shots" in recent memory. A fine crema on top, very hot and full of flavor. Clever storage under the lid for sieves and scoop. Makes coffee like a charm as well. The auto start feature is of couse a necessity for any one who hates waiting for a pot to finish in the morning . I have not had any problems with the drip stop as I always let the full pot brew, yes I am a coffee snob. But I would suspect that it would last for a long time if you dont jam the pot into it. I would recommend this quality machine to anyone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice machine
I purchased the the Krups Caffe Centro because of its quality and price compared to other units. I was not disappointed with the styling and quality. It is very easy to use and makes excellent coffee/espresso. I was surpised by the major improvements in the quality of the drip coffee over previous Krups models. The esspresso, although it works very well, seems to deliver a bit less quantity than I had expected. After trying several different grinds and quantities of espresso, I still could only get about 1.5 oz with the single seive and around 3 oz with the double seive. Overall very nice, albeit a bit short in espresso.

4-0 out of 5 stars Simple and reliable
I recieved my Krups coffee/espresso maker as a gift more than 3.5 years ago and it has been absolutely great. I use it once a day to brew coffee and about once a month to make lattes. The parts are all easy to take apart to clean and easy to use. I love the fact that all the pieces (espresso filters and tablespoon) fit inside the lid so I never misplace them.

The reasons why I don't give this 5 stars are that there are no outwardly visible indicators for water levels on either the espresso or coffee sides and the spring to stop the coffee from dripping if the pot is removed needs a little fiddling to work these days.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easily makes wonderful espresso and coffee
I bought this machine elsewhere, without first reading the reviews here, and was startled to see so many negative marks. Although I have only owned it for about a month, it has functioned wonderfully. It makes delicious espresso -- much better than the espresso that I used to make with a bargin machine that I used to own. Further, the frother is easy to use and clean. The drip coffee is also very tasty.

My only complaints are minor: I have to pull the machine out away from the wall so the lid won't hit the kitchen cabinets when I open it. Also, I wish it had a meter showing how much water was in the espresso reservoir (I just top it off before I start the machine).

1-0 out of 5 stars If I could give it negative stars I would!!!
I got this as a Christmas gift and was so excited about it! After making coffee twice,(the pot and lid are very cheap quality) it no longer worked, so I took it to be repaired. The shop sent it to Krupps, 9 weeks later I finally got it back. The element was bad and had burnt out (nothing I did). I was just glad to have my EXPENSIVE maker back. The next morning I poured water in, and it came out the bottom of the machine!! It is now at Krupps service department again. It has been there for a month now, I have spoken to someone at Krupps, and still have no response. DO NOT BOTHER WITH THIS MACHINE OR COMPANY!! It is the begining of April and have had 2 cups of coffee from this maker that I have owned for over 3 months. I have been using the same $25 "Mr. Coffee" maker for 10years now without one problem!! ... Read more

The Krups Open Master can opener answers the prayers of those cooks who are sick of struggling with manual can openers. I received this can opener as a gift almost 9 years ago. Absolutely loved it from the first use - no sharp edges to worry about and rarely needs to be cleaned. Also, no flakes of metal and can label left on the counter. Now, over 8,000 cans of cat food later (and few human food cans), its starting to need 2 turns around the lid to unseal properly. I was afraid they didn't make it anymore but was happy to find it on Not sure why this technology hasn't totally replaced the traditional electric can opener.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ready to buy my third one.........won't buy anything else!
Love this can opener, after using others for years, felt like I found the only one for me! Am in the process of looking for the best price on my third one.........Just used the other two till they finally gave out after many years!!!No other one will do! Wish I could find a great deal on a dozen, know I could sell them to the neighbors!

1-0 out of 5 stars Like watching a roulette wheel
Loved this can opener when new. After 18 months, round and round it goes. Place your bets many revolutions will it take to open the can? Numerous revolutions leaves the can's edge ragged with the risk that metal shards might drop into the food. A very expensive lesson in poor design.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good little machine!
We have had the Krups 404 for maybe 3 years now and it has been a wonderful addition to our kitchen. It is so much of an improvement over traditional can openers. The fact that no shavings get into the can that you are opening is a tremendous advantage. Also no sharp lids to cut your hand or fingers with. Since there are so many variations of cans to be opened we find an occasional one that needs a little encouragement (not at all unlike the previous top cutter one we had)and we use the hand opener once in awhile. Mostly because it probably needed more cleaning of the cutting wheels, which I finally undertook to do. It was full of metal shavings which were clogging up the mechanism and it can only get worse. I used a chemical agent to spray and remove them. It worked fabulously. Anything that is used to do this procedure is done at your own risk. Some of those things can be very hazardous such as pressure spray cleaners. The cost to replace the item may be a better option than useing chemicals. The unit is sealed for the most part and not user friendly to take apart. It would be nice to have a unitized cutter wheel assembly to remove and clean. Overall this little opener is a real plus for my wife and myself. She has used it a LOT!! She does NOT want to go back to the old top cutters.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money...
This piece of junk started making ominous noises after opening fewer than 50 cans. Before 100 cans were opened it gave out completely. I'm going back to my old, reliable B&D electric opener that hangs beneath the kitchen cabinets. ... Read more

This cooker boils up to seven eggs at one time or poaches one or twoeggs in trays. You can use the calibrated water-level indicator to pour theprecise amount of water needed to soft-, medium-, or hard-boil one to seveneggs. The indicator (a tube) has a steel pin in the bottom for piercingeggshells; this will leech out the sulfur so yolks remain yellow during cookingrather than turning green. Assuming the proper amount of water is in the eggholder, the timer will ensure the eggs are cooked to the desired level, and thenindicates with a light and bell when the hard-boiling is completed. You can thenset the timer switch to keep the eggs warm. The plastic egg holder is removable, letting you cool the eggs under running water. Everything cleans easily, including the nonstick coating on top of the boiling plate. The cooker measures9-1/8 inches wide and 5-1/4 inches high. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I Wish Every Appliance Worked This Well
If you are thinking of buying this item, don't worry, it works perfectly. Perfect eggs every time. My wife and I cook hard boiled eggs every morning to take to our offices and eat during our break, along with whole wheat toast. Before we purchased the Krups Egg Express Egg Cooker, it was such a hassle to boil water and time the eggs. Now they're perfect every time and we don't have to watch them while we get ready for work. And because the eggs are steamed intead of boiled, the shells seem to come off much more easily.

Sometimes, if you use extra large eggs, you might have to add just a tiny bit more water than indicated by the measuring cup in order for the eggs to be solidly hard boiled. Or, you can just leave them sit in the unit for a extra minute or two after the buzzer goes off.

We occasionally cook soft boiled eggs also, and when we do, they come out perfect.

This unit is very small so it will not take up very much room in your kitchen and it is easy to clean but rarely does it need anything more than a quick rinse.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nifty little time saver
One of my favorite ways to eat eggs has always been soft-boiled. Unfortunately I could never get them 'just right'. Now I have this egg cooker and they are perfect every time. Hard boiled eggs come out perfect as well. I do not like poached eggs, so I cannot comment on that function.
Something to point out is that this machine is really very tiny (smaller than my 10-cup Krups coffee pot) so it moves easily in and out of a kitchen cabinet.
It is very convenient in the morning to use this machine while getting ready for work. It is no fuss cooking!
I highly recommend this cooker if you enjoy eggs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Phenominal Product!! A Must have for any egg lover :-)
This is the best thing to come down the market yet. I love to cook and I love hard and soft cooked eggs and esp poached but like some others have said boiling the water, tapping it off not to even mention how many eggs I have thrown in the trash due to being unable to peel them right. Well let me tell you this is the best $20 I have spent in a long time on a cooking appliance. I just used it for the first time and then the 2nd because it was so much fun and so easy. Anyone that has ever had problems getting the perfect cooked egg will love this appliance and Krups is a great name in products as well. I have used their products for years. Oh I did look at other cookers but went with this one for compactness and also the Krups name.
Enjoy!!!!....Debbie in PA

3-0 out of 5 stars Undercooked eggs
I have used this egg cooker for almost a year. When trying to make hard boiled eggsj, if I cook 6 eggs with the amount of water the measuring device says to use, the eggs are very undercooked. If I use more water, they seem to get done. With their measurements, the more eggs you cook, the less water you use! Why am I having such a hard time making them come out right????

2-0 out of 5 stars Hard boiled doesn't mean Hard Boiled!
I ordered this product just before Easter to allow my son to do the eggs all by himself. He likes hard boiled eggs year round so this seemed like the perfect solution. Little did I know that even following the directions exactly didn't produce hard boiled eggs. The yellow centers were never done the first cycle and I always lose at least one egg every cycle because it bursts even though we put the hole in it. I'm sending it back after less than one week of trying to make it work. ... Read more

This unusual rotating waffle maker is sure to elicit admiration from brunch guests. Made of brushed stainless steel with black accents, the unit not only looks elegant but cooks professionally. After ladling the batter into the deep nonstick bottom plate, the top is firmly closed. After ten seconds, by means of the insulated handle, the waffle maker is rotated upside down and allowed to cook for the remainder of the required time (recipes and times are included in the user guide). The result: two perfect 1-1/4-inch-thick Belgium waffles, crisp on the outside, moist on the inside. A dial features variable browning settings, and two lights indicate when the waffle maker is on and when to add batter. Two curved fixed legs keep the maker upright and a drip tray fits between them to collect any batter overflow. A release button on the handle allows it to collapse for storage. Measuring 7-1/2 by 9-1/2 inches, the cook plates can be wiped clean or conveniently removed and placed in the dishwasher. With the handle collapsed, the waffle maker measures 13 by 8-1/2 by 9-1/2 inches and is covered by a one-year warranty. --Ann Bieri ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Restaurant-style Waffles!
I recently stayed in a Seattle hotel whose brunch buffet featured a do it yourself waffle bar. The professional waffle maker featured a rotary system that intrigued me--you poured in your batter, rotated the cooking plates, and when the light came on, rotated it back and removed your waffle. This rotary gizmo seemed to make the waffles cook very evenly and crisply.

I set off on a quest to find my OWN rotary waffle maker. I purchased this Krups waffle maker and have been very happy with it. While not quite as heavy duty as the restaurant version I used in Seattle, this is a FINE waffle maker. Here are some of its features:

1) Very well made. Very solid. All parts fit precisely. It has a heavy, durable quality that makes me think it will last me the rest of my life.

2) Easy to clean. The cooking plates remove for easy cleaning. The drip pan snaps in and out very easily and keeps batter from oozing onto your counter.

3) Fun and easy to use. Your brunch guests will be wowed as they watch you rotate your waffle maker! It really does a superior job at making waffles. All the recipes I've tried so far have come out great (even the recipes in the owner's manual--more on that later).

Note that the editor's comments concerning the lights are not quite correct. There are two lights on the top of the unit. One glows red while it is heating, and the other light glows green when the unit is ready to use. The light does NOT come on when the waffle is finished cooking, which makes sense because while the waffle is cooking, the lights are ON THE BOTTOM OF THE UNIT WHERE YOU CAN'T SEE THEM! However, it doesn't take long to figure out how long to cook the waffles after a test one turns out too brown or too light.

4) Easy to store. The handle folds up so you can pop this into a cabinet.

The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is the owner's manual. Maybe it's a translation problem (I assume the original was in German), but the recipes are bizarre.

First of all, American cooks will be disconcerted by the fact that amounts of flour, sugar, butter, etc., are given by weight, not volume (grams, not cups). But anyone with a kitchen scale can adjust to that. But there are other problems.

One of the recipes doesn't give a quantity for salt, it just says "add salt."

Another recipe doesn't give a quantity for sugar, butter, or flour, just says "add same weight as eggs." I weighed the five eggs (255 grams) and added that much sugar, butter, and flour. The recipe thus contained about two cups flour, two cups sugar, and two cups butter with no other liquid than the five eggs. Made kind of a thick, gritty batter that looked more like cake batter than waffle batter. The waffles cooked perfectly, but boy were they strange!! Kind of gritty from all that sugar. I hate to think how many calories they contained!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very happy
I looked for a long time before I decided on this one, and I am very happy with my choice. Things I like are as follows:

1)Makes great (I've used it on 6 separate occassions so far, average time per waffle has been less than 3 minutes)Waffles have come out of non-stick surface perfectly every time

2)Easy clean up (non-stick is just that in this case, and stainless drip tray also cleans up very easily)

3)Compact... for a rotary waffle maker, handle folds down to further compress its footprint on your countertop

4)Solid construction, this thing is solidly built without being unweildy, seems like it will last a long time ... Read more

This powerful 150-watt appliance is an all-purpose grinder, capable ofnot only grinding meat at a rate of 2.2 pounds per minute, but also of crushingice. An accompanying salad-making kit consists of three rotating drums thatslice, shred, and julienne vegetables and grind hard cheeses. 2-0 out of 5 stars Save your money for a better grinder
I've been using the Krups 402-70 grinder for the last 9 months now and it works fine..if you grind good cuts of meat with no fibers. Otherwise with cheaper cuts, the blade gets clogged with the meat fibers pretty much 10 seconds into grinding and untangling them is a pain in the butt. Also, the blade dulled very quickly and is difficult to re-sharpen. One of the most disappointing parts of the grinder is of the two plates with different size holes for the meat to be pushed out. They are not stainless steel, rust easily and produces a funky smell. After I wash these plates I need to dry them right away before they start to rust. If you truly need a meat grinder, look into getting something else. I think once we burn out this one, i'll get something with a little more power than the 150W Krups has to offer.

2-0 out of 5 stars Underpowered and noisy meat grinder
My husband purchased this for me after hearing me complain about the poor quality - i.e. full of gristle, off odors, and flavorless grocery store ground beef.

It is a struggle to grind any meat with this underpowered, only 150 watts, machine. Every 7-10 minutes I have to stop the machine and remove the screw assembly in order to remove the meat fibers that plug up the perforated force plate. If you have tons of time on your hands this may be the machine for you. Meat is squished through the force plate, not ground, so that you end up with a kind of meat paste. Also, I have to spend a lot of time trimming and cutting up meat into very small pieces so that there is less clogging. Did I mention that it is very noisy? Did I mention that it also grinds the side of the plastic chute that is used for grinding cheese?

I will never purchase a Krups meat grinder again. We're taking our time and evauluating a Northern Tools meat grinder with a .8 hp. Motor to replace the Krups.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little household grinder
A wonderful grinder for those of you on a tight budget. For those of you making dog food, this grinder easily handles a whole chicken cut up, however, I don't suggest grinding wings with the Krups Butcher Shop Meat will immediately jam up and take forever to unclog. Why do I like it? It breathes through chicken with no problem, does veggies/fruits/boneless meat with nar a sniffle...even handles leafy greens without getting all gummed up. To be a small household grinder, it doesn't take up much room, excellent and light for elderly or otherwise physically handicapped person. Also, its excellent space saver for apt people who want to be able to make their own ground meats, etc. ... takes up little room in or out of the cabinet. I recommend it to everyone. ... Read more

The Krups 0.3-cubic-foot digital convection and toaster oven performs just about every common cooking function, eliminating the need for a separate toaster or microwave and cutting down on the power costs of using a full-size oven. Bake, broil, toast, top brown, and reheat in this compact oven with its metal and cool-touch exterior and nonstick, wipe-clean interior. The rack, which pulls out conveniently when the door is opened, holds six standard slices of bread or four large slices.

Up and down arrows adjust the settings. The timer can be used alone when the oven is not in use. Lastly, push the Start/Stop button to start the cooking process or cut it short. 5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best...
I am a tea snob. I am not ashamed to say, I want my tea the way I want it. This kettle is perfect in every way. It's easy to fill from the spout. It is functional in pouring - well balanced. It heats a full kettle in around 5 minutes to boiling. The base houses a wrap around function so you can make the cord as long/short as you want. Oh, and it's darn attractive too ;)

In short: It's perfect. You like tea made the correct way? Get this kettle. Well worth the funds to purchase it.

5-0 out of 5 stars From the kitchen to the dining room table
Elegant styling and cool-to-the-touch bottom means I can heat water, pluck the kettle off the base unit, and put the it right onto the dining room table without a hot pad. This is fantastic for hot after-dinner drinks at a party. The base unit and kettle have a 360-degree attachment which allows the kettle to be connected to the base at any rotation making it easier to find a home for it in your kitchen. The base also has 'feet' so that the cord can come out of any side making it easy to located and keep the cord hidden. It's a small detail, but it shows the thought that went into the design.

In addition, this teapot as all the advantages that a dedicated electric kettle has over a stovetop model: auto-shutoff (start it, jump in the shower, hot water is waiting when you get out), generally faster to boil water, and it doesn't occupy a burner nor get covered in grease splatters. The downside is that it's yet another appliance taking up counter space.

So there are a few complaints: the Krups teakettle has a wide base so it does take up more of your counter than other models. We originally bought it for heating water upstairs, but found it far to big for our small bathroom. Other problems I have are that the handle is directly over the main opening making it somewhat awkward to open the lid and fill the pot. As another reviewer pointed out, the water level indicator is only good for full/empty measurements. I generally lift the kettle to see if I need to add water. I would like some audible sound when it finishes boiling. I've gotten so used to the start-it-and-leave-it that I often come back 20 minutes later having totally forgotten I was making tea.

Anyhow, the problems I have with this teapot are mostly trivial and are so far outweighed by the advantages that I give it 5 stars and recommend it highly. It's a great gift for the tea-lover in your family.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy and attractive
This is my first electric tea kettle and I have to say that I'm in love. The water heats quickly, the kettle has a large capacity and the automatic shut-off makes it easy to see when the water is done. It is also a very nicely designed appliance (that's, of course, not a reason to buy kitchenwares but it is nice when they look good.) It's easy to run and the cordless feature (the kettle goes on a small hot plate) makes it very convenient to carry around. I also liked the strainer feature.
I only have two problems with this kettle. It is a little bit noisy so don't be alarmed at the boiling sounds. The gauge that shows how full the kettle is is hard to read when the kettle is held at an angle, such as when you would be filling it under the tap.
Other than these minor problems, I am enjoying this kettle greatly and, short of a power outage, I can't see myself going back!

5-0 out of 5 stars quick and easy
I didn't know why I needed this over my tea kettle but a few people I know have them and I love my gadgets and appliances so I tried one and we have enjoyed it very much. This kettle came recommended to me and I love it... just an easy press of a button and the water is ready in about 4 don't have to come back to the room to shut it off, it does that by itself and keeps the water hot for quite a while. If you want to warm up the water after that it only takes about 45 to 60 seconds. ... Read more
