Great Coffee
I love this little machine. great coffee. SMOOTH, STRONG, but not bitter. It takes a little practice to get your coffee the way you like it, but I have yet to make a bad pot of coffee from this machine

The best "Americano" coffee maker Yet!
I had to think a bit before spending $100 for an 8 cup coffeemaker with no fancy digital timer, thermal caraffe, or built in grinder. I ordered one, convinced by the reviews of numerous satisfied owners who really seemed to know about coffee. I am so glad I did. I have tried the top rated drip brewers, vaccuum brewers, and press pots, but the Krups Moka Brew beats them all.

The low pressure brewing system seems to extract the maximum possible rich and complex coffee flavor, with an absolute minumum of bitterness. When you first get it home, experiment with the grind, and amount of coffee. I find that a grind half-way between drip and espresso is perfect. I use only half the amount of coffee per cup I would with drip, and get a richer cup. The Moka brew is not cheap, but cause I use less coffee it will pay for itself the first year.

As noted in other reviews you cannot get filters except by phone through Krups. However, I have found that using 2 standard 3.5" disk filters (cheap at any major supermarket) and offsetting them slightly so they cover the 3.75" in basket, that I get perfect coffee with no grinds slipping into the brew. I tamp the coffee down a bit too which once again, makes the coffee taste a bit darker and richer. No one has yet mentioned how much fun the machine is to watch. The coffee sprays down creating a deep tan crema during the first half of the brew.

One more hint, when you are in a hurry, just fill the brew chamber with hot tap water instead of cold. I can taste no difference in the final result, and it brews in half the time. Five stars!!!

Fantastic coffee
I am a coffee nut, plain and simple. I have literally over 10 ways here at home to make coffee, and I roast coffee, oh 3-4 different ways. Let's see, oven, stove, whirly pop, and small 2 oz roaster.

When this Krups came around, I was skeptical probably b/c I didn't understand it at first. The key to thinking about this, is espresso richness in large volumes without bitterness. It just extracts full flavor very quickly, like an espresso shot, but in a 8 cup quantity.

And it works. To me, this is the single best way to make coffee out there. It probably ranks alongside French Press, but this method produces coffee that is a bit thinner and doesn't leave appreciable amounts of grounds and/or dust in your cup.

The main thing to adhere to, however, is that you must use espresso ground all the time. And you must have a good grinder to achieve a consistent grind. Other than that, this baby rocks. Plain and simple.

Best-tasting coffee
The Moka Brew does make outstanding coffee. The brews are strong but not bitter. Everyone agrees that it is far superior to the automatic drip machines. Also it takes less actual coffee to produce a strong cup.
I do have some reservations. The machine takes a non-standard disk style filter that I have yet to find in any store (even Williams-Sonoma.)You can't use basket style filters as the steam goes under them and not through the grounds making horribly watery coffee. I even tried regular percolator filters, without luck. This forces you to by the filters directly from Krups.
The machine is also harder to clean than my old automatic drip. Since the filter is under the coffee there is no easy way to get it (and the grounds) out. I end up putting more grounds down the disposal.
If Krups supplied a reusable filter basket that would eliminate all of my reservations.

UPDATE:You can use basket style filters if you cut them to fit. We use the filters for the mini 4-cup style drip machines. We tried to order some of the disk style filters from Krups...but the cost was $15.00 for 200 filters and they were on back order. If I were rating Krups'customer service instead of the machine itself, it would get 0 stars.

Drinking coffee outside of a coffee shop never really excited me UNTIL I got this machine...Wow! What a difference compared to our now "shoved in the back of the cabinet" 5 year old drip machine! The flavor I got out of the exact same grinds I've always used before(a good quality fresh roast) was so much more intense and rich - I was so glad that I did a little research and decided to try one of the recommended coffee machines that brewed at the "optimal water-temperature range" for extracting the best taste out of fresh ground coffee.

Having no timer is not an issue since I get fresh HOT coffee in about 5 minutes (that's for half a pot, a full pot takes a few more minutes) and it's so easy to use and easier to clean than my old machine. I even use it to make a quick pot of plain-'ol steamin' hot water when I need (I don't like waiting forever for the kettle and I don't like burning my hands on an overheated mug handle placed in the microwave.)

...I thought that perhaps the process of brewing coffee in this pot would be a little complicated, but it's anything BUT that. ... I bought it then and there and vowed that if it didn't make a considerably superior cup of coffee that it would go back.

Well, I still have it and it's started a love-affair with good tasting coffee for me. One word of caution: when I first unpacked it (after reading the instructions), the carafe was a little difficult to remove since during the shipping process the top rubber grommet was slightly dislodged and this put more pressure against the carafe lid than there normally should have been with the lever in the release position. I gently pulled using a slight side-to-side motion until the pot came out, removed and then replaced the rubber grommet correctly and have had NO problems since.

My next coffee venture will be a good burr grinder - something I would have never bought before, but a good companion for the excellent brew this machine is capable of making. ... Read more

This is a Darth Vader of a coffeemaker, a big, black behemoth that filters fine coffee with a flourish. Its technological features are considerable and include a double action water filter that keeps the taste of chlorine from coffee and preserves the machine from calcification. Its "Duo-Filter," which needs replacing about every three months, is vegetable-based and can be thrown in the garbage. Another special Krups feature is a lid designed with an insulating grid over the pour spout that captures drops of coffee and uses them to seal the pot. In most coffeemakers this area is open, allowing the flavor and aroma of waiting coffee to escape. The grid is a nice touch, though the lid can be slightly hard to remove for washing. 7 Years of Good Luck
We purchased our Crystal Aroma in Jan. 1997 (the timer model). There are damned few small appliances that will give you even 4 or 5 years of solid service. But it is almost with tears that we have finally "retired" our coffee maker after 7.

It's been a stalwart, reliable fixture in our kitchen that has seen us through many a weary morning or settled us down comfortably over dessert after a lively, hearty meal. The coffee maker still brews an excellent pop of coffee. The duo filter makes a noticable difference in removing chlorine from the water and a SwissGold permanent coffee filter (purchaased separately from the maker) has been an excellent companion.

Unfortunately the spring mechanism, which senses whether the pot is in place and allows you to pour a cup while it's still brewing, has weakened so that water has begun backing up in the filter basket even when the pot is in place. If I thought I could manage to replace the spring myself I'd do it in a heartbeat. I love this babe!

Poorly designed.
Please don't be bowled over by the attractive "look" of this coffee maker. After buying cheap coffee pots for years, we decided to spring for a Krups. We have had this one for about six months and are thinking about replacing it ... This pot, while cool looking, is very poorly designed. Unless the carafe is jiggled in place just so before brewing, steam and hot water condense/pour off the back drip area and create a puddle around the pot. The area where the water is poured in is too narrow and almost always splashes out. ...the water filtration filter is pretty useless and impossible to find as well as expensive for all the more it is, and the carafe is attractive but hard to pour (you have to practically hold it upside down to get out all the coffee). Also, though the pot is supposed to "pause" dripping when the carafe is removed, it still drips terribly until the cycle has been over for about 10 minutes. All in all, we have been very disappointed in this machine, which is a shame as it wasn't cheap...

The BMW of coffee makers
I've had mine for about 5 years now and it is by far the best coffee maker I've ever had.

I don't know what really you can say about a coffee maker, but this guy just works great.

First of all, it's quick. it makes a pot in no time.

The filter is cinch to clean and I have always like the taste of the cone style makers, it seems to gather more flavor from the grounds without getting the undesireables. I can use less coffee to get the strength I like and thats important when you like Jamaica Blue Mountain at $25/lb.

I have not a lick of trouble out of this in 5 years. Usually I expect to get 2-3 years from a good one, maybe more for a Bunn. But this guy is still like new. I used it every single day. Thats so far thats over 2000 pots of coffee and still going.

I bought the gold filter for it and I like the idea of a washable filter. The only complaint I have with it is the water filters are hard to find, only Bed, Bath and Beyond carries them here locally and they are expensive. I just leave it empty most of the time as I use RO water from my machine to make the coffee. I have never had to run any vinegar through it because of the good water I use, but the filter should do the same thing.

This think looks good. I saw them using one in an episode of Babylon 5. Maybe they used it because it looks futuristic, but I am guessing that mine will still be in service in the year 2260.

Great Looks and Great Value
For the money, this coffee maker can't be beat.

It looks great and makes a really excellent pot of coffee. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I found the coffee gets plenty hot for my taste! The only thing that kept it from getting 5 stars is that it is slow. But, if you plan in advance - i.e. get it started before doing other things you need to do - you won't have a problem. The water filter is a nice feature in this machine, and the carafe is fantastic - the lid won't fall off when pouring.

This Coffee Maker works just fine !!
Don't know what the complainers is talking about. This Coffee maker works just fine. I have the programmable version. I think the design of the pouring spout, is the best I've seen. It is quite small and very curved which stops the stream immediately and prevents drips. Coffee goes straight in the cup and nowhere else.

I have had mine about 2 yrs now, having bought it after getting tired of having to clean the grounds out of my Cafetiere everyday.

I have never had the brewed coffee pour all over the counter instead of into the jug, but my husband has, don't know what he and you others are doing. But since some poeple, for whatever reason, have trouble I have removed a star.

I live on a small caribbean island and I have no trouble getting size #4 paper filters, Melitta and cheap Best Yet filters are readily available; so how can you folks in the US not find them? I also have a Krups Gold filter and this machine does need a specific one. The generally available Krups gold filter does not fit; make sure you order the right one. However I prefer the taste of coffee filtered with paper, less bitter. I have also had no trouble getting replacement water filters which I love. I cannot abide coffee or tea made with tap water, the taste is awful.

About the temperature, anyone who knows how to properly brew coffee, especially with a Cafetiere, knows that you shouldn't use boiling water, it should be just off the boil. Tea, on the other hand, MUST be brewed with boiling water. This is why tea will always be hotter than properly brewed coffee. I haven't actually checked the temperature with a thermometer, but if you drink your coffee black, as my husband does, it is very hot and needs to cool to be drunk. If, like me, you like white coffee, milk/cream out of the fridge does cool it significantly, warm your milk/cream before adding. This is to be expected if you like a lot of cream, unless you like your coffee burnt by being made with boiling water. If you just like a slight splash of milk, you will also have let it cool to be able to drink it.

The hot plate can be adjusted to keep warm from 1 hr to, I believe, 5hrs, mine is set to keep warm 2 hrs. I find the taste deteriorates the longer it is kept on the hot plate, but this is the case with any coffee. I am considering buying a thermal flask/carafe to transfer the coffee to once it is brewed and am currently looking at the Amazon reviews.

As for the complaints about emptying the jug; because of its round shape, yes, you do have to almost invert the jug to empty it completely, but so what, it is only maybe the last quarter cup, it is hardly a hardship and although you lose the benefit of the spout shape, because the jug is inverted, it still does not spill because the amount involved is so small. ... not worth the counter space
I have used a Krups steam-powered espresso maker for the last 15 years. I bought this pump-powered machine as an upgrade to my existing system but I was very disappointed.

The machine comes with coffee holders in two different sizes. Even the larger one is not deep enough for making enough coffee for a large cappuccino. Each run of the machine is good for about 2.5 ounces of brewed coffee; too little for a cappuccino.

The clearance below spouts is too low to accommodate anything other than small demitasse cups. That's OK if you use the machine for espresso only, but not good if you want to make a cappuccino or latte.

Removing used grinds is a big mess. Unlike other machines where used grinds come out as a dry cake, here you get liquid mud. You have to be very careful not to spill the mud on the machine or on the counter as you remove and dispose it.

I am not sure if the pump on my unit operates properly. It does not appear to be producing much pressure. Even with very loosely pack grinds it produces a very weak stream. This particular unit may be defective but I am not interested in trying out another one.

The machine is being returned tomorrow.

Disappointing.
The Novo 3000 Premium is of very poor build quality.

1 - The 2 cup filter drips at different rates for each nozzle, therefore making 2 cups of espresso simultaneously next to impossible.

2 - The ESE filter holder leaks, I have only tried about six pods the leaks become more extensive with each use.

Another annoyance is the used ground coffee does not empty as a hardened cake as indicated in the instruction manual, emptying the coffee after each use is a pain.

This is the most disappointing item I have ever purchased from Amazon.com since 1997 so I returned it. ... Read more

we've retired our stovetop teakettle
This was a splurge after my husband and I visited London -- all the B&B's there had some kind of electric teakettle. Those guys know their tea, so eventually we broke down and got this one. We love it! We'd gone through many teakettles, even the whistling kind, because my self-employed hubbie tended to start working and completely forget that he had something on the stovetop. This teakettle brings water to a full rolling boil in about 5 minutes and then turns itself off, bringing the water to a perfect temperature for a great pot of tea -- without overboiling and removing too much of the oxygen from the water.

I also find when I'm cooking spaghetti that it's a lot faster to boil water in this teakettle and then transfer the water to the cooking pot. The kettle is easy to fill and clean, and it lifts smoothly off the base. The exterior stays nice and cool. My husband was leery about the cost compared with a regular teakettle, but after a couple of weeks of using it he says it was worth every penny. This would make a wonderful wedding or housewarming gift. People who have been using a traditional teakettle and want to make great coffee or tea at home will find this an excellent buy.

Dribble glass
If you're looking for a *replacement* carafe and already own the coffee-maker then you probably already know this, but in case you don't then be aware that this model has a "dribble" problem.

Especially when the carafe is full, the coffee tends to overflow either side of the spout and run down the side of the carafe onto the table/counter/floor/etc.

The carafe looks nice, but too much consideration was given to esthetics and not enough to functionality.

Just Replace The Machine
This carafe is too fragile. I like the underlying Krups but after too many broker carafes I went with a nice Melitta at my office and another nice Krups (with a better carafe design) in my kitchen.

Also, early versions of this carafe woul dribble.

And the cost of this carafe is outrageous compared to carafes made by Krups or others.

There are other nice coffee machines that make good coffee and don't have a fragile carafe.

Buy another machine with a better carafe. Buy another Krups if you like but avoid this carafe.

Great for one or two cups!
This pitcher is well-designed and nice looking. Design lets you hold it comfortably and touch a finger to the side of it to monitor the temperature. Plenty of room to steam milk for two lattes with a bit of foam on top.

Wide mouth make it easy to use. ...
The pitcher is very good and professional looking. I especially like the fact that it has a wide opening which make it much easier for milk frothing since I always makes 2 cups at a time. Recently, when I went to a nearby mall, I discovered a very similar design 20oz froth pitcher for less money. It is probably a little expensive, but if you can find it cheaper, this is an excellent product.

Krups coffee maker filter
Let me get this straight - 2 filters for $15? Who do they think they are, Hewlett-Packard selling print cartridges??? The coffee pot works just fine (actually BETTER) without a filter. You can buy a Brita filter pot and pre-filter your water if it needs it, for a lot less money than $7.50 each for the Krups solution. Like P.T. Barnum, said, there's one born every minute....

Need different filter or will this one work?
Where are the filters for a model #458, these are more of a straight line filter rather than having a curve to them?

A single function knob makes operation simple. There must be better machines out there for a similar price.

It's too noisy. It vibrates so much that it walks across the counter.

You can make only one cup at a time and, since you have to guess at the amount of water required, you have to stand there while it brews. That's probably a good thing, so you can stop the machine before it walks off the edge.

The filter is very shallow. Unless your hand is very steady, you'll probably get coffee on the edges of the filter holder and have to clean them off to prevent leakage. Then, as you prepare to attach it again, you'll get more coffee on the edges, and so on a few times.

The espresso was good, but getting it requires more energy than I feel like expending. I'm going to look around for something else and dump this one at a tag sale.

The Mr Coffee ECMP40 (about $65) is getting good reviews. It brews two demitasse instead of just one, and it can use espresso pods as well as loose grinds. It has 13 bars of pressure instead of 8; according the the Coffee Snob (http://www.2basnob.com/espresso-machines.html), you need at least 10 bars for a good cup with crema. I haven't seen any reviews that talk about the noise or vibration, but the machine is definitely heavier than others I've lifted at the store, so I hope this means it's more solidly constructed.

I think I'm going to give it a try.

it was ok.....nothin special
The coffee it made was ok, it wasnt anything great. I still stand by starbucks. The problem is it made the coffee to watery and you didnt get the fresh aroma of coffee. I was disapointed

It sucks, or maybe mine is broken
I just bought one of these and am returning it tomorrow!! It makes a horrible noise, like a very loud coffee grinder. It doesn't make proper espresso (very watery) and doesn't froth milk. A thorough waste of $100.

TERRIBLE PRODUCT
I used a Krups Espresso Machine (non-pump action) for eight years on an almost daily basis before it broke down. I didn't expect any problems when I purchased the Espremio several months ago. My first Espremio started leaking water from the back of the machine after two months. The replacement Espremio stopped frothing milk after two months and recently also started to leak water. This is an obviously defective product!
