My favorite appliance
I got this wonderful mixer as a wedding gift in September and I love it! I am an avid baker who had used various mixers, but none compare to this one. I love the feature that moves the bowl while mixing, the side spatula that scrapes the sides, when you remove the beaters they come out clean, leaving more batter in the bowl. I have never used a more efficient product. It is a joy to use.

I love this mixer
This mixer is perfect for my needs. I use a mixer a few times a month and didn't want to spend $300 - $800 for a stand alone mixer. I can easily use it in the stand as well as a regular hand mixer. The stand lets my 5 year help. European design is nice as well.

Mixer broke right away -- no service available
We used this mixer once. A plastic piece broke off when we pressed on it. We called the service center. They never heard of the model. Krups Crystal Arome Replacement Carafe
Sorry to say that I have to agree with everyone else. It's a great looking machine, coffee was good, but........The carafe broke just 3 months after I bought it. I spent another 3 months trying to track down a replacement carafe. The carafes are [high priced], paper thin and just about impossible to find!
Very disappointing and frustrating.

Mine lasted for 4 years and counting...
... I have been using this coffee maker for the last four years. My carafe has managed to deal with all the rough handling that comes with being a kitchen appliance. I am only considering replacing it because the lid has become so stained.

This is one of our favorite kitchen appliances
Back when we were making up our wedding registry, my then-fiance (now husband) really wanted an ice cream maker. The store we registered at had three options: the Krups, the Cuisinart and one that used salt. We chose the Krups based on its smaller size and touted ease of use.

The claims of ease were absolutely true! We keep the bowl of the machine in our freezer at all times so we're ready to mix up a batch of fresh, homemade ice cream with as short a wait as possible. The mixer is very strong and we've yet to mix up a batch too thick for it. It's also a breeze to clean up. You wouldn't believe the raves we've received on the varieties of ice cream we've made. What more could you ask for?

Another reviewer mentioned the scarcity of recipes that came with the machine. To be honest, we've never tried any of them. The most requested batch we've made came from "Williams-Sonoma's Ice Creams and Sorbets" book - it's the recipe for Cantaloupe Sorbet with Minted Melon. We've also found Ben & Jerry's book to be a winner as well.

Don't Buy This Flimsy Product
Although I have made some great frozen yogurt with this product, I haven't made any in awhile, because the paddle broke just over a year after purchase, and I haven't gone through the trouble of finding a replacement yet. As other reviewers have noted, it's quite a trick to snap the lid into place without feeling the need to curse loudly; it is not designed intelligently. The paddle is made of thin, cheap plastic, and it takes a lot of stress while stirring thick ice cream. Also, this ice cream maker is quite loud. I wish I'd bought the Cuisinart machine, which has received rave reviews on amazon.

Here is a tip if you want something unexpectedly healthy: I made frozen yogurt using yogurt (drained through cheesecloth, for extra creaminess), fruit and other flavorings, and stevia in place of sugar. Stevia is an extremely sweet herb native to South America, available powdered and in liquid form in the vitamins & supplements section on your health food store. It's non-caloric, completely safe (it's been used in Japan and South America for decades), and it tastes like sugar in frozen yogurt. This way you can make an extremely healthy, low-sugar, all-natural frozen treat. Enjoy!

Surprising poor quality for Krups
We own several Krups small kitchen appliances, and had been happy with all of them, including initially this ice cream maker. After a few uses -- properly cleaning and drying all parts after each use -- however, the tub corroded and the freezing gel leaked out. I called Krups customer service, who expressed surprise, but offered no resolution to the problem. I note that several other reviews here report a similar experience with regard to the leakage. Krups seems to have a quality problem with this item that needs to be resolved. I would not purchase another one.

A great maker for the money
After reading a review in Cook's Illustrated, I ordered the La Glaciere (I would have ordered the Musso, but my husband balked at the $500+ price tag). After anxiously awaiting delivery (I bugged the UPS driver daily), it arrived and I began my ice cream adventure. I was surprised that you put the whole container - minus the lid, dasher and motor- in the freezer. I had assumed that you just put an inner bowl in to chill. After reading a few reviews about the trickiness of assembling the machine, I practiced a few times just to get it down. True, it's not super simple, but it's not as difficult as I had anticipated.

I began preparing for vanilla ice cream a day in advance-- chilling the unit and cooking the custard base and then chilling it overnight. When it was go time, I assembled the machine and turned it on so the dasher wouldn't freeze to the canister. The hole in the lid is great and allowed me to pour the custard in while the machine was in motion. I set the timer and stood watching, fascinated. Within 25 minutes I had fresh vanilla bean ice cream! It was more soft serve consistency, but it firmed up after a few hours in the freezer.

My second batch, strawberry, didn't work as well because I hadn't frozen the cannister for 24 hours. It never firmed up and got really icy in the freezer. I told everyone it was sorbet which helped to cover the faux pas.

My 3rd batch, peach, was the most amazing. I had chilled the cannister for 3 days (due to the bad strawberry experience) and also chilled the custard mixture to 35 degrees. Both of these factors resulted in fabulous ice cream after only 18 minutes of churning! The dasher reverses direction when the mixture gets too firm, and the poor thing was doing that for about a minute before I noticed it. I tested it later and it ran just fine.

The pros of this machine are: Great ice cream at a great price.
The cons are: Delayed gratification, as the bowl must be thorougly frozen to get the best results. Also, there is a layer of ice cream that is missed by the dasher on the bottom of the cannister. At the end of churning, it's frozen so hard that you can't really mix it in with the rest. But it's only about two spoonfuls worth.

Other than that, this machine is a real hit with my family! For the price, I highly recommend it.

End note: To the reviewer who said their cannister warped: you have to make sure the cannister has completely thawed and is bone dry before you put it back in the freezer. Any bit of water may cause warping.

Great Little Ice Cream Maker
I have had this machine for over a year now and it works Great! It's too bad several people have had issues with using the device. Important information is spelled out clearly in our Instruction Book on page 9 and 10 under the heading MAKING ICE CREAM. The proper way to assemble the lid is to (a)Insert the tabs on the lid into the slots of the freezing cylindar, then (b)lock the rear of the lid onto the container. (press the release button if you can't press hard enough). Using those steps, there really is not an issue of the paddle bing out of place either. If you try to position the rear first you may break the lid. Issues with your ice cream not freezing is directly related to following freezing instructions on page 9 under FREEZING THE CYLINDER BOWL. Check your freezer settings and adjust accordingly. For those who have had leakage issue or have broken pieces, I wouldn't give up on their customer service. Very poor quality.
This filter was purchased to use with our news Krups coffeemaker. I was skeptical from the beginning, as the basket was flimsy compared to our older Krups filter. The filter cracked after two weeks. I would not recommend.

An ecological solution to coffee filters--and a warning
This is an economical solution to using paper filters for coffee--even the unbleached ones that stress the environment less than bleached paper does. The gold coating on the plastic makes for a neutral flavored filtration. You will get a few more fines than with a paper filter.

However, when cleaning the filter, do not be tempted to put it in the dishwasher. The action of the metal cleaners in the detergent and an electroplating effect caused by other metals in the dishwasher (like your silverware) will remove the gold from the filter. Just wash it by hand with a few drops of dish detergent to remove coffee oils. This should last for years.

Great filter...long-lasting
My husband and I bought this filter when we first got married. That was EIGHT YEARS ago and it's still going strong. We've gone through 3 coffee pots and have the same filter. I never have noticed flavor distortions like another reviewer mentioned. The coffee tastes great with no ground leakage. It's wonderful not having to buy filters. I would definitely recommend this product.

krups 049
This filter does not fit the 12-cup Krups Aroma Control coffee maker I purchased. Also, despite an independent rating I read in Cooks magazine, I'm not that impressed with the coffeemaker itself. The carafe doesn't keep the coffee any hotter than Mr. Coffee and the brew tastes the same to me.

Nice concept - but don't buy if...
I liked the idea of the gold filter. No waste of paper(is it reusable)and has a handy handle to remove unit even while hot, but what I have found from using it, and it seems to only be with freshly ground coffee (using a krups grinder), you get a VERY bitter taste with it. I cleaned/soaked the gold filter and it did not change. Even when I changed coffees and the way it was ground, it was still there. I would suggest anyone who uses standard outta the bag ground coffee to use it, but be warned if you grind your own. ... Read more

Coffee doesn't taste well
While I save the expense of filters, it just doesn't give me that clean taste of coffee that another more metallic brand of permanent filter gives me. In fact it has the look of gold colored nylon versus the more "solid" golden filters of other brands.

Cleaning it is a bear, not so much getting the stains out, that works well enough, but it takes a lot of water to finally purge the filter of grounds that accumulate in various nooks and crannies.

But it's still probably in improvement over the paper filters.

Doesn't fit size 2
Product description doesn't tell you what size filter this is. It is a size 4. It did not fit our size 2 filter holder. Product returned.

The gold standard in our house --and some hints for using it
We had to go back to paper filters while our coffee pot and Krups gold filter were in storage during a move. So I had a chance to compare, again, the gold filter versus the paper cones. Here are my observations:

1. It is a pain to remember to buy filters, and sometimes the grocery store is out of stock. I like the brown unbleached filters and those are not always available.

2. If you use this gold-coated filter, you should NOT grind your coffee too fine. (We grind our own in a small electric mill.) The filter allows somewhat more sediment through than the paper variety. I don't like finding even a small amount of sludge at the bottom of my mug. A careful grind does take care of this problem, however.

4. Despite the fact that gold is relatively inert and stainless, it doesn't hurt to rub down the filter and plastic with a paste of baking soda and water, once a week. This removes any bad-tasting residue that can accumulate.

All in all, when we unpacked our filter and started using it again, I was very happy. It saves paper, money and time. I recommend it if you have a cone-filter type coffee pot.

While this filter is supposedly designed to work with my Krups coffee maker, the plastic frame of this cheaply made "permanent" filter snapped shortly after I began using it.

Poor quality
Beware this juicer. When I received mine the motor worked for about 30 seconds, and then ... nothing. When I looked into having it repaired, the nearest service facility was about 45 minutes from where I live. I ended up returning it to Amazon (not a hassle, they even link you to a UPS pre-paid return label), but I wasn't credited until Amazon had it for a week. By that time, my credit card bill had come due so I had to pay for it, although I now have a negative balance.
