Functional, good looking, a little flimsy
We needed to replace our 8-year old Krups (it still worked fine, but it was a little crusty), and this serves the purpose. It looks nice, and it makes a good cup of coffee quickly. The timer and auto-off features are a plus. The little dial and clock feel a little flimsy, but they work fine and for price we paid -- compared to the competition -- it's a good deal.

Bad carafe
No cup markings on carafe.Carafe is made paper thin so it breaks easily and you have to go and buy another one from Krups.

Terrific buy!
This is not my first krups coffeemaker.It is replacing my 1996 model that still works fine,but the styling was a little outdated and it does not have a timer.I've never had any problems and it made a great cup of joe.
Therefore,krups was my 1st choice for a new coffeemaker and I was not disappointed.This model is very easy to use and the taste of the coffee is excellent!And unlike some other machines,it has a simple and foolproof drip stop mechanism for sneaking a cup while brewing.
This machine has only 2 very minor issues.First,it's a slow brewer.It takes 12-15 min to brew to capacity(this would be a non-issue if using the timer).Second,the white model (which I have)eventually gets stained inside the basket area and on the carafe lid.Other mfrs seem to be aware of this and use black plastic in these areas.Again, this would not be an issue with the black model.
Altogether,a reasonably priced and reliable machine that makes terrific coffee from a great mfr!

Love it!
This is one of the easiest coffee makers on the market to use, and it makes a great cup of joe, too.The timer works great, and is something we're certainly thankful for in those early morning hours.

The only thing that threw us off at first is it seems to need more water than what you think - when you pour water in to the "2 cup" line, you really only get one good sized mug out of it.So remember if you want to brew 2 mugs of coffee for morning, to fill the line to the "4 cup" mark.It's not a big deal at all, just something to be aware of.

Great product that you can't buy!
I received my Krups Model 476 coffeemaker as a gift. Now it is time to change the Duo-Filter.....and I can't find one anywhere. Mine has split, so I definitely do not want to continue using it. I am disappointed in this product. I do believe the filter made the coffee taste better, but; what good is it if you can't use the maker properly! I have spent too much time looking for this little "accessory". I think I'm more inclined to make the coffee without it, and when the coffee maker sees its last days, I will be searching for a new brand of coffee maker to purchase. Seems little to ask for a company to readily provide accessories for the products they make. If its this difficult, Krups better rethink their marketing practices, or they will find themselves at the bottom of the list.

Krups Charcoal Filers
I've used the Krups coffee maker with these filters in 2 different states including 5 addresses. It works great. Don't know that I would use this particular coffeemaker without the filter. I'm having difficulty obtaining replacement filters.

Finding Filters is definitely a problem
Similar to other reviews, I have had trouble finding filters. I also own a Krups Mocha Brew and they use a Size 1 round filter which is only avaiable online for $5/ box of 100 plus shipping and handling. This is a lousy way for Krups to do business, not making filters widely available. It would deter me from future purchases.

These filters are a great idea
I believe that the reason why some people are having difficulty finding these filters is because the coffe makers, Crystal arome (model #398) and Crystal arome time (model #458) have been discontinued, these filters fit those models. But as someone else has mentioned you can buy the filters on-line. Simple solution.

Not as good as I had hoped....
I wasn't happy with this product, I used it in my Krups coffee pot and it seemed to let a lot of grounds through. Maybe I am just not fond of the gold filters and/or not used to using them. Either way I stopped using this filter, I'm not saying it not good, just that I had different expectations.

Doesn't work in all Krups 10-12 coffee makers???

I, too, have a ten-cup Krups AromaControl coffee maker. It did not come with a permanent filter although my last Krups did. I bought a goldtone filter at a local dept. store which said it fit ALL 10-12 cup coffee makers, but it didn't.

JSchalberg of NY wrote in her review that this one from Krups does not fit hers, either. I am glad to know that before ordering one. What's up with this, Krups?

Doesn't fit all Krups 10 cup coffee makers
I was very unhappy to find that when I put the filter in the filter basket I was unable to close the filter door. It was just a bit too high. I have a aromacontrol 10 cup drip and I expected it to work, as stated, on all 10-12 cup drip coffee makers. Otherwise, I think I would have really liked it.

I could taste the difference
I only bought this as a filler item so I could get a promotional certificate, but it turned out to be a great purchase. I really enjoy good coffee but never realized my paper filters were preventing me from tasting the coffee as good as my maker could make it. It does make a difference, the coffee tastes better, and as more flavor. The oils make the difference I guess! Guests have also commented on the flavor of my coffee. Good coffee starts with good beans and good, cold, clean water. I think it also needs this type of filter. ... Read more

All Looks, No Brains
Pros:Looks good in my kitchen.
Cons:Everything else.

Two reasons I bought this toaster: it was available for $23.99 at a local Ross and looks.I wasted my money.This is the slowest toaster I've ever experienced.By the time it gets your bread to anything remotely resembling brown, it will have completely dried out the bread, not to mention make you late for work.It doesn't matter what settig it's on, it still takes forever.And for those, like me, who like things almost-burnt, it's useless.

Can't make toast!
I'm 60 years old so I've seen and used a lot of toasters in my time so it amazes me to find one that can't make toast in the 21st Century. My wife bought this one because our "old" one, after less than two years of use, quit browning bread. We've had this one for only a few months and it is erratic at best. Sometimes it works, sometimes it browns one side and not the other, sometimes neither side on the first try. It's is worthless and frustrating. How hard can it be? It's ridiculous to manufacture a product that has been around for more than a hundred years, a simple product at that, which can't consistently brown bread. $50.00 for what?

Not The Priciest, And That's OK!!
I believe in paying top dollar for quality, and haven't been afraid to do so with kitchen appliances. But quality for a bargain price is even better! This toaster works better than many other toasters out there, and definitely better than any toaster I've owned previously. I bought the polished chrome from Crate&Barrel (sorry, Amazon), and had no idea until just now reading other reviews that it is missing a separate bagel setting, but that's OK with me - it toasts my bagels perfectly without any special setting. I use this toaster for a household of two; I suppose I might want a few more features like a dual browning option if it was used more than that, but it isn't so it works just great!I've owned it for well over 1.5 years now, without a single problem (it doesn't get what I would call heavy use, but I doubt that would make a difference).The outside wall stays cool to the touch when in operation. It looks great next to my other chrome appliances (cuisinart 14-cup food processor & Cuisinart CBT-500 blender - which, by the way, Amazon is currently selling for a lot less than I paid for mine - buy them!); mixing and matching brands as long as they work well is definitely OK with me. Plus, the polished chrome model has a special coating over the finish which is undetectable and makes wiping fingerprints off of it a snap! I can honestly say I love this toaster.

Its a clinker!
Same experience as others here... after a while, one side gets stuck and wont work.Returning a toaster for warranty work is not something I enjoy - i think I will avoid Krups from now on.

This is "JUNK" !!!!
Needing a toaster, I opted for the 4 slice Krups. The specs and hype where just what I was looking for. I ordered it from Amazon, and had to wait some weeks before I got my toaster due to out of stock. It finally arrived, and the slide that lowers the toast on one side wouldn't stay down. DOA. So I dutifully packaged it, and sent it back to Amazon, who after a short wait sent me another one. Everything seemed fine, except it took FOREVER to toast a couple pieces of toast!!! The selection option for toasting was virtually worthless, because anything shy of maximum kicked back a piece of warm, dry bread!! Then, after a few months, the left side slide refused to stay down, just like the first one. So here I am with this oversized "2 slice" toaster, that didn't toast worth a darn. I thought about trying to return it for warrenty repair, but what would I have then. A lot of effort. and a rediculous wait, for a lousy product. So I cut my losses ($59.00) and threw it in the garbage. It had turned out to be a real example of "Eurotrash". Save yourself some money and time, and make another choice, any other choice. Uneven baking
Another thing to add to the list of problems (hot handle, ridiculous tiny, deep crevices to clean with a toothpick) other reviewers have mentioned is the lack of a "floating hinge". It is unable to keep the two plates parallel as the waffle expands. So the front opens further, resulting in a back dark half and light front half. Of course, if you underfill, you'll get a dark bottom and light top.

The Krups brochure included has a motto on the front: "Quality by design." Well, quality is indeed directly related to design and this unit has rather little of either.

(BTW, some reviewers seem to have misunderstood the purpose of the "ready" light. As explained in the manual, it merely indicates whether the heating element is on. You can start baking when it first turns off, but when it comes back on it doesn't necessarily mean the waffle is done. It just means the plates cooled to the point where the thermostat kicked back in.)

To Hot to Handle
I purchased this new waffle iron since my old Toastmaster was not heating properly. This new Krups is a disaster. All the instructions were followed for first use. We put in the batter and set our timer for the recommended four minutes. The waffle was burnt. The handle was so hot I could not hold it to open the iron and had to grab a pot holder. The hand opening is very small and not designed to have a pot holder in there.
We put some more batter in for the second waffle and set the timer for three minutes. The handle was still very hot and the waffle was dark brown. Dinner is not going well at this stage. The next waffle we tested when the light on the top went out. I still had to use something to open the top but the waffle was still dark.
At the end of cooking there was a puddle, not drops, of water on the counter. It must have come from the steam. Another design flaw is there is no overflow protection.

This baby is going back to the store. I will continue to look for another toastmaster or better designed item.

Handle too hot!
I ordered one and during use the handle became too hot to touch. I had to open with an oven mit which is very clumsy. I called Krups and they said they have gotten a few calls about this and to exchange it. I asked if my new one will have the same problem and they said "no". Well, I exchanged it for a new one and it had the same problem. Obviously, I returned it and am now shopping for a different brand.

Hard To Clean
This waffle iron does a great job with waffles. The problem is that it is very hard to clean. There are to many small clearances around the waffle iron for waffle mix to cake up if the waffle iron runs over. There isn't an adequate drip edge to catch the over flow.

I am going to try the Villaware with the removeable grids. I put whole blue berries into to my waffle batter, and this also requires additional clean up that would be easier if I can remove the grids and put them in a dish pan.

Great Waffles!
Finally a great Belgian Waffle Maker! We had tried so many waffle makers in search of one that would make the "Diner" waffles that my kids love. "Too light", "Too Dark", "Not Crispy", "Too thick", "Too thin", were the complaints until we found this Krups Belgian Waffle Maker. The waffles come out nice and thick, but are light and crispy and only take about four minutes to cook. It does take some time to clean it after we're all done, but it's worth it! Go with a different brand!
No lid!!! Rather spend the money on a brand that thinks before selling 1/2 of a replacement piece.

What a Pain
The machine is tempremental at best - it would not use my preferred pre-ground expresso. But is worked ok with ground beans a bit more course. Then, I broke my glass coffee carafe - my fault, I'll buy a replacement ($24). Replacements do not come with lids. As the lid was attached to the broken glass, I had thrown it away. Krups will sell a replacement lid ($6, for a total of $30), but won't have it in for a month or so. Machine does not work without the lid. I have used Krups machines for 15+ years - never again. My $30 is going towards a new Mr. Coffee.

Disapointed
I was very disapointed to find out that after spending over [$$$]for my Krups coffee maker, when it came time to buy a replacement carafe it comes with no lid. ([$$$]later) After spending the additional [$$$]I still can't use my coffee maker.

Beware--no lid
The replacement drip coffee carafe for the Krups Duomo does not come with a replacement lid. Most replacements do, so in this case, don't throw away the old lid. ... Read more

This big, white behemoth of a coffeemaker filters fine coffee with a flourish. Its technological features are considerable and include a double action water filter that keeps the taste of chlorine from coffee and preserves the machine from calcification. Its "Duo-Filter," which needs replacing about every three months, is vegetable-based and can be thrown in the garbage. Another special Krups feature is a lid designed with an insulating grid over the pour spout that captures drops of coffee and uses them to seal the pot. Makes Very Good Coffee
I replaced a Braun (it finally wore out) with this model and have used it for 4+ years.The only complaint I have with it is the propensity to drip if you try to pour too fast (why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5).As I really like good coffee, I overlook this little shortcoming - this Krups model makes a VERY good cup of coffee for an auto drip machine.Better than the Braun and much better that the Melitta Fast Brew and the Mr. Coffee we used at work. I've brewed just about a pot a day since I've had it and have yet to have any structural or electrical problems with it.Mine doesn't have a shutoff timer, but I'm drinking my 3rd mug within 30 minutes anyway, so I just shut it off after I pour. As I said, this thing makes a great pot of coffee and I would recommend it to anyone.

THE GLASS WILL BREAK
I paid 50 bucks for the Krups coffer maker, which you can now get for 30 bucks. However the Carafe still cost 25 bucks to replace - when it breaks. And yes, your cute little round pot will break with the slightest pressure. Speaking of, I'm under pressure to replace the Carafe since the pot (aka: Brittle Carafe) looks so darn cool. Hum. Looks or quality? I'm going back to quality. I learned my lesson. Hope you know better

Good but needs some tweaking
Great coffee.Love the difference that the filters make.The lid to the caraffe is a piece of junk.Now after less than one year, the clock is going out.

With a few improvements, this would be the greatest coffee maker...Watch for the improvements and then buy it!Like I said, GREAT COFFEE!
