Amazon.com Review

If the Weather Channel or a local weather radio station isn't enough, it might be that the La Crosse WS-8025CH Sun/Moon Wireless Weather Station can take up the slack. Multiple meteorological readouts appear on an elegant cherry-toned base station, mountable for walls or able to stand freely, with a built-in, fold-out stand. Sensors (up to three) transmit information from outdoor vantage points to the base station. Indoor and outdoor temperature (in degrees Fahrenheit and Celsius) and relative humidity are prominently displayed. Radio-controlled calendar and time readings are accurate to within a second per year. Time can be displayed in 12- or 24-hour modes.

The Sun/Moon Wireless Weather Station has some special features, too. It gets its name from its ability to calculate rise and set times for the sun and moon based on an entered city name--there are 250 North American cities to choose from. (There's an indicator for 12 phases of the moon, too.) It can track barometric air pressure with a 30-hour history chart. The weather forecast function, estimated to be 75% accurate, is based on change in air pressure over time. Three icons--a sun, a sun with clouds, or two rain clouds--indicate imminent changes in the weather. There are two weather tendency arrows as well, indicating changes in air pressure. A temperature alarm can be set to alert for specific temperatures reached at the remote sensor location. And a storm warning feature uses drastic drops in air pressure to trigger an alarm.

The weather station comes with La Crosse transmitter TX4U. Weather station and transmitter each operate on two AA batteries. For options in wall mounting, two screws and screw anchors and a strong adhesive tape are included. The WS-8025CH measures 10 by 7-1/2 by 3/4 inch. La Crosse provides a one-year limited warranty on its weather stations. Each weather station comes with a thoroughly detailed instruction booklet. --Garland Withers ... Read more

Designed for the avid adventurer, this watch uses Swiss technology to keep serious climbers, alpine hikers, and skiers in tune with current altitude, barometric pressure, and temperature. A button on the lower left side of the watch’s face switches among three different modes. The main LCD screen displays the current time in hours, minutes, and seconds; the numeric date; and the day of the week. Additionally, a line graph along the top of the screen shows the barometric pressure history for a 48-hour time period. In this mode, the clock can be programmed to chime hourly and sound an alarm at each date change and/or at a set time. This feature also has a chronometer with a 100-lap memory, a countdown timer, and a repeat timer.

The barometer mode displays the current time and pressure history graph, as well as current barometric pressure readings in millibars (mb), hecto pascal (hPa), or inches of mercury (inHg), and the current temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius degrees. The K2-100 also remembers high and low barometric pressure readings for a 48-hour period, and recalls them when prompted.

The altimeter mode displays current altitude in feet or meters, and has a bar graph that indicates the altitude history for a 24-hour time period. A user log memory tracks and records the date and time the altitude sample was taken for later review. The altimeter also calculates the rate of ascent or descent and records the maximum and minimum altitudes within 24 hours. The K2-100 features two independent altitude alarms that can be set to sound when certain height limits are reached.

Made to withstand the elements and extreme weather conditions, this watch is wrapped in plastic, weather-resistant casing. It operates within altitudes of –2303 to 30,065 feet, and has a backlit screen for viewing during night adventures. La Crosse Technology includes a free instructional DVD, and covers the watch under a one-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

Many modern homes have up-to-date clocks or mini weather stations that depend on radio-transmitted data to stay calibrated and current. The La Crosse TX4U works outdoors by sensing temperature and humidity and transmitting that information to an indoor station. It can transmit to a base up to 80 feet away. The TX4U can be added to augment information coming to La Crosse units already in operation. Remove batteries from base units first and activate sensors; then replace batteries in base units and press no buttons until a display appears. Multiple sensors can be assigned a number so that it will be clear which information from which sensor is displayed.

The TX4U operates on two AA batteries. Its housings are made of durable, neutral-tone plastic. The sensor works with all La Crosse weather clocks and stations except the Professional Weather Center Series: WS-2010, WS-2210, WS-2310, WS-2315 and WS-2510. For options in wall mounting, two screws and screw anchors and a strong adhesive tape are included. The TX4U measures 2-1/2 by 3 by 4-3/4 inches. La Crosse provides a one-year limited warranty on its sensors. Each sensor comes with a detailed instruction sheet. --Garland Withers ... Read more

When is a clock not just a clock? When it provides so much more than just the time: temperature, phase of the moon, and accuracy within one second per year, for example. This handsome wall clock, with its dual LCD screens and black-accented brushed aluminum finish, is an example of household life being enhanced by science. The WS-8117U-AL can hang on the wall or stand freely, with a built-in, fold-out stand. Radio-controlled time (to the hour, minute, and second) and date are prominently displayed, along with indoor and outdoor temperatures measured in either Fahrenheit or Celsius. The day of the week can be displayed in English, French, Spanish or German.

Time can be displayed in 12- or 24-hour modes, and time zones from Greenwich Mean Time to -12 GMT can be selected, with three-letter identifications for US time zones. An alarm feature is useful as a timer, and, if the clock happens to hang or stand near a bed (or a couch that's used for napping), a snooze feature allows for gradual wake-up. Moon phase shows in twelve increments, from new moon, through gibbous and crescent phases (waxing and waning), to quarter and finally full moon.

The clock comes with La Crosse transmitter TX6U. Clock and transmitter each operate on two AA batteries. For options in wall mounting, three screws and screw anchors and a strong adhesive tape are included. The WS-8117U-AL measures 12-1/4 by 8 by 1-1/4 inches. This gadget is geared to the serious weather nerd rather than your average outdoorsperson as it gives a more complete picture of weather patterns and has a more complex screen to decipher for readings. About the size of a television remote control, the base unit has rounded sides that fit comfortably in the palm of the hand or mount on a tabletop or wall for readings at a glance. The station reports the temperature in Fahrenheit and Celsius and the humidity for indoor locations and outdoor locations using a remote sensor. For more accurate outdoor readings, the base unit can receive information from up to three different sensors, which can each be placed up to 80 feet away. The weather station records the minimum and maximum temperatures and humidity readings within a 24-hour period and recalls them at your prompting.

A complicated-looking circular bar graph in the center of the screen shows the air pressure history for the last 12 hours and displays the current relative air pressure in inHg, mmHg, or hPa. A weather tendency indicator predicts weather for the next 12- to 20-hour time period based on air pressure changes in easy-to-understand grapichal icons. The wireless station even has a storm warning indicator to give you ample time to prepare for foul weather and a snow warning symbol that displays when temperatures dip below 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

For added convenience, the wireless weather station has a clock that reports time in hours, minutes, and seconds in either a 12- or 24-hour time model and the accurate date. For precise time- and date-keeping, the gadget has a built-in antenna system that receives signals from the WWVB radio transmitter in Fort Collins, Colorado, which is in turn is regulated by the atomic clock. The clock can be set to one of 13 time zones, including all US times zones and Greenwich Mean Time. The wireless weather station requires two AA batteries for the receiver and another two for the remote and is covered by a one-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars F-E-A-T-U-R-E-S for an astounding price!!!!!!!!!!
They'll tell you it's too expensive and to get the $20 thermometer. On the other end the spectrum, they'll tell you it's a waste. It doesn't have rain gauges or anemometers. But, it's a bang for your buck. True, it's fairly expensive, BUT most weather stations that sell for about $30 less don't even tell you indoor humidity ( no indoor humidity.) Their outdoor sensors don't have humidity as a feature, either ( no outdoor humidity). This model's sensor, the TX7U, does detect humidity, as does the model itself. This model also gives you the EXACT barometric air pressure (fancy name for air pressure), not just an arrow showing barometric air pressure trends, like most other models. They (the other models) pretend to forecast the weather (in the form of those pesky icons). They fail. (They only rely on barometric air pressure. The Weather Channel has this as well as tons of info from Doppler radars and satellites. We all know how well they do!!!) This model only displays the barometric air pressure. Though it looks like it's trying to forecast the weather at first glance, you see that it's just a way of showing barometric air pressure after you read the fine print. It also has a bar graph showing how the barometric air pressure has fluctuated in the last twelve hours. In addition to this, it automatically records and stores Minimum/Maximum records for everything (temperature and humidity both outdoor and indoor, barometric air pressure) as well as the date and time it reached that minimum (or maximum). It features all this and more! Plus, it's only $100 at www.ambientweather.com (which is a very reputable dealer). Hope this review helps!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't go wrong with this desktop weather station...
I recently purchased this unit and I am very happy with it. It shows both indoor and ourdoor temperature/humidity values on the screen at the same time. It displays air presure which allows you to see what the weather is like and will be like in the next day or so. It also graphs the last 12 hours of barometric readings. Determing the weather forecast is easy and accurate. Temperature and humidty values seem very accurate as well. It also has min/max values for just about everything it monitors, and has various sampling rates for each of the stored values. It has a nice amount of features and performs each feature very well. Can't go wrong with this unit. ... Read more

If buzzers or music are not enough to get you out of bed in the morning, this projection alarm clock might give you the jolt you need. When the alarm sounds, time and outdoor temperature project in large red digits onto a wall or ceiling up to six feet away so you can’t miss it. The projection arm has four different orientation angles for you to adjust it to the perfect eye level plus an adjustable brightness control. Two alarm settings, allow you to set wake-ups for two different times. An adjustable snooze button also gives you a respite between alarms of anywhere from 1 and 59 minutes.

This bedside clock also displays the precise time in hours and minutes in either 12- or 24-hour mode on its backlit LCD screen as well as the current day of the week and numeric month and day. A built-in antenna system receives signals from the WWVB radio transmitter in Fort Collins, Colorado, which is in turn regulated by the atomic clock. Once you plug the unit in and set the clock to the proper time zone, it will automatically set to the accurate time. The clock can be set to one of 13 time zones, including all US time zones and Greenwich Mean Time. The main screen also identifies your current time zone on a United States map icon and displays current indoor or outdoor temperatures and the weather forecast for the next 12 to 20 hours. The temperature function displays in either Celsius or Fahrenheit and is measured indoors every 10 seconds. Outdoor temperature is measured remotely every 5 minutes via a 433 MHz transmitter (included) that can be positioned up to a maximum of 80 feet from the clock’s location. The current weather forecast and future tendencies, including storm warnings, are shown in an iconic display with predictions based on changes in air pressure detected by the unit. This clock comes with an AC power adapter, and will also run on two AA batteries as a backup power source should the electricity go out. Framed in a matte, gold-colored plastic, this wall clock measures 14 inches in diameter and looks most at home hanging in an office or business setting. An easy-to-read display backlit with LED conveys indoor and outdoor temperatures, humidity levels, air pressure, time of day, date, wind speed and direction, wind chill and dew point, lunar phase, and daily minimum and maximum recording for temperature and wind speed. Simple graphic icons depict the indoor comfort level, while other graphics denote the outdoor forecast for the next 12 to 24 hours with 75 percent accuracy. Amazon.com Review

Aspiring meteorologists and will be thrilled with this La Crosse Technology wireless weather station. Ideal for darkrooms, greenhouses, or other environments that require a consistent temperature reading, the WS-7014CH records indoor temperature, humidity, and remote temperature as measured by the included TX6U remote sensor. For those who need multiple temperature readings, the unit is compatible with up to three remote sensors, and displays the information in both Fahrenheit and Celsius. If gauging current temperature isn't enough to satisfy, the station also forecasts upcoming weather conditions based on changing air pressure, employing several user-friendly icons, such as clouds, raindrops, or the sun, in the display. The forecast is approximately 75 percent accurate for 12 to 20 hours.

Like all La Crosse Technologies products, the included clock and date indicator receive their readings from the U.S. atomic clock in Fort Collins, Colorado, ensuring that the time is always 100 percent accurate. Amazon.com Review

The La Crosse Technology WT-5431 projection alarm clock with remote temperature gauge is ideal anytime absolute accuracy is paramount. The clock, which can project the time or remote temperature onto a wall or ceiling from 3 to 10 feet away, receives its time and date signal from the atomic clock in Fort Collins, Colorado, ensuring that it will never be off by even a few seconds. The included dual alarm employs an adjustable snooze, in addition to running on either 12- or 24-hour time mode. The clock also displays the date (month, date, year, and day), the indoor temperature in either Fahrenheit or Celsius, and the remote temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius. The projection feature is a real plus, as it's versatile and flexible, with a rotating option for proper viewing and an adjustable intensity level. Use it at home as an alternative to traditional alarm clocks, or at your business. When operating on the AC adapter, the unit can project the time or temperature constantly. However, when using the battery, the clock projects the information for three seconds each time you press the button. --Rivers Janssen ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars UNIT STINKS
Very hard to set up. Unit would respone some of the time. Never got remote temp. Buttons worked some of the time This unit never would seek time standard. Returned unit to store.

4-0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars for functionality - 3 Stars for desigin.
I decided to list the pros and cons first for those that want the short and sweet.

Pros: Projection display works well even at max distance. Able to rotate the projection. Able to choose what is projected (Time, Remote Temp, or Both). Impressed with accuracy of remote temperature. Able to receive info from remote sensor even through several walls.

Cons: Too light. Main base unit could be a bit larger. Awkward initial setup. Bracket for remote sensor needs improvement. Alarm could be louder.

This is a nice little unit. The picture and measurements are a bit deceiving as they give the size of the entire unit including the projector - the 'main' part of the base is a bit smaller than I expected. Still, the item works well and I was quite impressed with the projector, although the documentation states it will project 3-6 feet, in a test I was able to project across the room (about 10ft) with no problem. You can also rotate the projected display in 90 degree increments, which is nice.

I was quite impressed with the range and accuracy of the remote temperature sensor, I have it about 30ft away, through 3 interior walls and one exterior wall. As for temperature accuracy, I live about a mile from where one of the local TV stations has a remote weather monitoring site and can pull up their real time info - this unit comes very close to what they report. Getting the temperature to report for the first time is a bit of a pain, it does not actively look for the remote sensor... you must make sure the main unit is unplugged and has no batteries - then install batteries in the remote sensor - then supply the main unit with power. To me this went against my 'hook it up and play' demeanor.

The backlit display could stay on a bit longer - but as long as you are actively pressing buttons (such as setting the alarm) it will stay lit. I like the adjustable snooze - up to 59 minutes - and you don't have to remember to turn the alarm on every night, just press any button (other than snooze) and the alarm silences, but remains set for the next day. The alarm is easy to set, but the volume could be louder - if you need a marching band to wake up to, this is NOT for you.

There are some design flaws I found frustrating. The unit is very light weight.... too light. This causes it to move around slightly, so the projection is never in the exact same spot. Even the weight of the power cord will cause the unit to move. The base could be made heavier. And don't expect to be able to press buttons on it without having it move around.

The power cord awkwardly plugs into the unit, and is almost impossible to remove without tweezers.

I was very disappointed in the mounting bracket for the remote sensor. You can adhere the bracket with either the supplied double sided tape or supplied screws. I wanted to go the screw route, however the screws are so small - it is impossible to screw them into a wall. They are about the size of eyeglass screws - only longer. With my precession screwdriver I wasn't able to get enough torque on the screw to get it to go in the wall. I then tried small nails, but the holes in the bracket are too close to the rim, so with a hammer you cant get a clean strike.

All in all I like and would recommend it, the functionality is impressive, the design is not.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice unit
I never use the radio on my old alarm clock, but wanted one with two alarms like mine had. I decided to give the projector unit a shot, since it's nice to be able to not have to twist around to see the time in the middle of the night.
The unit is great - nice, compact, and unlike most of my other alarms I've ever had, I don't have to turn the alarm off in the morning. You can program the snooze to simply turn it off when it goes off, but leave the alarm on so it'll go off next time in 24 hours. No more trying to remember to set the alarm at night.
The projection will work well at night, when there's no light, but I was disappointed with it because it only has a focal range of between 3 and 6 feet. I had been hoping to project it onto my ceiling. I have to settle for one of the projections on our wall. But it's still functional at that point, so I'm content. I wish there was a way to set the clock display to be backlit all the time, but you can't. It'll only light up when you hit a button, and then for just 2 seconds. Not a big issue since there's the display projected at night, but when you want to see something else, like the alarm, or the temp, you can only see it for a couple seconds after hitting the buttons.
All in all a good unit though, despite the small shortcomings. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

A great gadget for a boating or backpacking trip, this battery-powered wireless weather station displays all the pertinent information you’ll need and is about the size of a remote control. The adjustable contrast LCD is divided into five areas of information. At the very top of the screen, the time, date, calendar, and time zone (for the four U.S. time zones only) are displayed. A built-in antenna system receives signals from the WWVB radio transmitter in Fort Collins, Colorado, which is in turn is regulated by the atomic clock, to provide precise timekeeping. Once you install the battery, you can set the clock to one of twenty-five time zones, including all U.S. times zones and Greenwich Mean Time, and the device will automatically set to the accurate time. For practical purposes, the clock also has an alarm with an adjustable snooze time.

The screen also shows the local sunrise, sunset, moonrise, and moonset times, along with the current moon phase. The sun/moon features work for 45 U.S. settings and even allow you to check the statistics for other cities from your present location. An icon towards the bottom shows weather and air pressure trends. The remainder of the display is devoted to showing relative humidity and temperature in either Fahrenheit or Celsius for an indoor location and an outdoor area using the included remote sensor. The weather station also records the minimum and maximum temperatures within a 24-hour period and recalls them at your prompting. The sun/moon wireless weather station requires two AA batteries for the receiver and another two for the remote and a low-battery indicator on the receiver lets you know when they need replacing. --Cristina Vaamonde ... 4-0 out of 5 stars La Crosse WS-9016U Wireless Weather Station w/Atomic Clock
Just purchased the La Crosse WS-9016U Atomic Weather Forecaster and this review is based on less than 2 days of ownership. You should read the manual on how this thing works because if you expect instantaneous results the moment you stick in batteries you will be disappointed. You should give this gizmo at least 24 hours to settle in. You don't even have to set the time or day, leave it alone and it will do it by itself. Just apply your settings such as city, weather forecasting sensitivity, LCD contrast for readability and how you like to read the temperature in C or F then let it be for 24 hours and it will take care of the rest.

Pros: Housing colour nice and muted. Set it and forget it. Weather forecasting (Haven't had this long enough to know if it can do better than a meteorologist).

Cons: Cheesy and stiff button settings behind the cover. No day of week or 4 digit year displayed. There should be a button to have the LCD backlit. Contrast display works but don't stick this near a window where it will be bright. ... Read more

This cherry wood-paneled digital wall clock reports the current time plus indoor and outdoor temperatures and the moon phase. The clock has a built-in antenna system that receives radio signals from the atomic clock, keeping precise time and the accurate date. Time is displayed in hours and minutes and either 12- or 24-hour modes on the top LCD screen while the lower LCD shows the date and day of the week in English, Spanish, German, or French, along with the moon phase (of eight possible phases) and current indoor and outdoor temperatures. The clock has an alarm with a snooze option and can be set to one of 13 time zones, including all US times zones and Greenwich Mean Time.

The temperature function displays in either Celsius or Fahrenheit and is measured indoors every 10 seconds. Outdoor temperature is measured remotely every 5 minutes via a 433 MHz transmitter (included) that can be positioned up to a maximum of 80 feet from the clock’s location. This clock can be wall-mounted or propped up on a desk with its fold-out stand and measures 12 by 1-1/4 by 8 inches. This digital clock is covered by a one-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde ...
