Amazon.com Review

A great gift for a wine lover, this powerful, award-winning tool effortlessly extracts the cork from any wine bottle in 3 seconds with simple lever action. Handles with comfortable rubberized padding easily clamp onto a bottle's neck; the lever drives the tough worm into the cork with a push and then pulls the cork out cleanly with a simple pull. Releasing the cork involves the same action, only with the handles clamped onto the cork. Ruggedly constructed of polycarbonate and reinforced nylon, the cork puller has the heft of a fine, precise high-tech tool and comes by its name, Rabbit, because it resembles a bunny's head. Metrokane corkscrews are independently tested for 20,000 cork pulls; tests assume replacement of the spiral after 1,000 pulls.

This model of the Rabbit has a velvety, silver finish, as do the four tools accompanying it. The tools include a squeeze-and-twist foil cutter to strip away the foil covering a cork, a drip-stop ring that fits onto any size wine bottle to prevent stains on table linen, a sealer that twists so tightly into any size bottle's neck it preserves even Champagne bubbles, and a "wax whacker" that flips the wax tablet off a wine cork. Also included is a replacement worm--the installed worm wears out after 20,000 or so corks. The Rabbit and tools all fit snugly into a padded storage case with a hinged lid. The cork puller carries a 10-year warranty against failure. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Easiest corkscrew ever!!!
I could *not* believe my eyes the first time I saw someone use a Rabbit. I've shredded SO many corks and even broken bottles trying to get corks out. I've tried so many different kinds of corkscrews (and the two-pronged non-screw-type cork-pullers), and I've been all kinds of frustrated. I'm a big and strong guy, and I've still been frustrated at how hard some corkscrews are to use.
Enter the Rabbit. It's hard to visualize from the picture, but it is SUPER-EASY, once you figure it out.
1) Flip the top over, away from the cork, raising the screw (sometimes called the "worm")
2) Place the two handles on either side of the bottle-neck, positioning the tip of the worm over the cork.
3) Squeeze the handles together to hold the bottle.
4) Bring the top handle up and over, which pushes the worm into the cork -- so easy you can't believe it.
5) Take the top handle back to where it started, and the cork is out! No muss, no fuss, no cuss!

They say removing the cork from the worm is just as easy, but it's not quite. The method for this is:
6) Bring the top handle back over, as if to put the cork back in the bottle, only without the bottle there.
7) Squeeze the side handles around/on the cork.
8) Bring the top handle back away to remove the worm, while holding the cork with the side handles.
That works, but the side handles don't always squeeze tight enough to hold the cork there.

Okay, the ad says "3 seconds". I put closer to ten seconds, plus five more to remove the cork (if it grips right), or 30 seconds more if it doesn't grip the cork to remove it. Still, this is the easiest and best corkscrew I've ever used, and I'd say it's WELL worth the price. The "gift set" is nice, but personally, I don't think it's worth the extra price compared to just the Rabbit without the gift set. I do, however, recommend the Metrokane "Save-the-Wine" Vacuum Pump.

Oh, one more thing -- I've heard it doesn't work well on the new plastic-style "corks", but I haven't tried it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A veritable feat of engineering!
I bought the Metrokane Rabbit as a Christmas gift for my parents and it has since become the most indispensible item in our kitchen. We drink wine every night in our house, and have been through many a corkscrew, but absolutely nothing compares to this. The Rabbit makes short work of opening a bottle of wine for even the puniest-armed of us, and indeed, has caused one or two scuffles at dinner over who gets to open the next bottle of wine! Three swift, smooth movements will open even the most stubborn bottle, and with none of the grunting, puffing and red-faced struggling that often accompanies this manouvre. There is a particular brand of white wine I drink that is next to impossible to open if you have left the bottle to chill with the cork in it, and I actually broke 3 "traditional" corkscrews trying to open one single bottle of this. Well, in the highest praise I can summon for the Rabbit, I have not had a problem with one of these bottles since I bought it. If you are a wine-drinker, or even just a lover of gadgets, buy this - now!

5-0 out of 5 stars I finally received one!!!
I love this corkscrew system. My husband just bought it for our anniversary. I have loved this corkscrew, since using it at a winery I work at in Tennessee. It never failed us and was a time saver during big events, like concerts and tastings that required a lot of bottles to be opened at a rapid rate. Definetly a must have for serious wine buffs.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST of the BEST wine opener set!
We've been through many wine openers living in both the Northern California and Virginia wine country, but NOTHING compares to the ease and smoothness of the Metrokane Rabbit wine opener, AND it's a complete set with an extra screw, spout protector, wax remover, foil cutter, and a stopper! You can't get it for a better price (not to mention free SUPER SAVER shipping and no tax!) All our friends want one...they make GREAT gifts for GREAT friends! Get it and you'll love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great corkscrew, great gift.
I've been using these Metrokanes for several years now and I wouldn't want to use anything else. They make absolutely anyone look like a pro opening a bottle of wine, while of course at the same time avoiding the occasional broken cork plunged into the bottle horror.
Whenever we have guests, they always comment on the Metrokane, and as a result I've found it makes a perfect gift. In particular, this silver model is extremely attractive. ... Read more

As attractive as it is professionally functional, this chromejuicer generates powerful pressure to quickly squeeze every drop ofjuice out of oranges, grapefruits, lemons, and limes. And it extractssweet juice without scraping bitter oil from the fruits' skins, aselectric juicers often do. Its rack-and-pinion gear system and barhandle generate pressure with little effort, and the spring-actionhandle snaps back automatically for convenience and speed. Forstability, there's a grip for the left hand while the right hand pullsdown the handle. 4-0 out of 5 stars Good work out!
If you don't want to work for your fresh juice this isn't the juicer for you.

Some have mentioned problems with the gears but a quick spritz of WD 40 on mine and it's worked fine since I've had it.

It'll squeeze small grapefruits to small limes and everything in between.

5-0 out of 5 stars Second Opinion
Hmmm, now that I have received the second juicer, it turns out that it has the spring loaded arm. I felt this one would have parts that could break in the future (the spring in the arm). It turns out that I like the spring loaded arm, it makes the task a little bit easier. Going back to my first Metrokane juicer, the manual arm style that I swore by, now seems to be a little bit of a hassle. Also, this new one is COMPLETELY polished chrome "looking". The only caveat is that the base seems to be a polished steel "covered/molded" PLASTIC! (I hate plastic!) So, the one made entirely of steal is virtually unbreakable, but a little taxing as far as effort is concerned. The spring loaded arm version is, in comparison, more cheaply made, but a bit easier on the arm. I use both and am keeping both. Whichever one you would like to have, remember... FRESH SQUEEZED ORANGE JUICE RULES!!! :o) Enjoy!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Cheap metal
When I first got the juicer, I absolutely loved it! Finally, fresh O.J.! Worked well, was able to juices 10-20 lbs. of oranges in minutes. However, I did get the feeling there was still plenty more left in the halves. Then one day the gears felt "sticky", and then on one more pull of the arm the metal body just cracked and broke! Right where the arm attaches to the body it just cracked apart. This was not mechanical. it was just poor quality.

1-0 out of 5 stars Far from being "professional"
Nice looking chrome gadget but we found it to perform poorly. The holding glass is small and tilted very easily. The halves stucked to the cup on the lever. You have to remove the fruit halves with your fingers (very impractical and messy). The cranker does not produce enough leveler pressure often leaving plenty of juice in the halves, no matter how hard you push. If you push to hard the stability of the juicer is not good. There are no suction feet to hold the machine in place. Can't recommend it. Far from being a so call "professional" equipment.

1-0 out of 5 stars hard to handle for old people.
no directions to maintain or use came ith the juicer.did not seem to extract all the juice, but left pulp all around the edges.I want to return it when I learn how.Your return thing is down. thank You for asking. Lou Borczak borzzak@comcast.net ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Many wine connoisseurs are already familiar with the fast and furious cork-pulling action of Metrokane’s Rabbit corkscrew. This bunny-eared device makes an excellent companion to the corkscrew for those evenings when you can’t quite finish an entire bottle of wine. The Rabbit vacuum pump comes with two rubber push-button stoppers, which you insert into the top of your half-empty wine bottle. The pump positions over the stopper and, using the two lower handles, grips the neck of the wine bottle. The vacuum pump, operating similarly to the corkscrew, requires just four swift pumps on the ear-like handle to draw most of the air from your wine bottle (which can destroy the properties and flavor of your wine). This durable device has all-metal gear teeth and a soft, anti-slip coating on all handles to provide a solid grip. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars This item does not work
This product simply does not work. The vacuum is so weak that it does not preserve the wine, even for a day. I have used a Vacuvin for many years and it is a far superior product at a far lower cost. We bought this item because it appeared to be easier to pump than the Vacuvin -- and it is. The reason: it doesn't preserve the wine. I am seeking a return and refund, either through Amazon or Metrokane.

2-0 out of 5 stars Better looking but poorer vacuum than the alternatives
I bought this, although I already had the Vacuvin vacuum pump, because it looked more durable and easier to use. It IS nicer looking than the white plastic vacuvin (although it's grey plastic not metal), but it takes more pumps to create a vacuum and the vacuum is much weaker than with the vacuvin. since the metrokane is also twice as expensive, you'd be better off buying the vacuvin.

5-0 out of 5 stars Much better than other vacuum devices
I bought this for my husband for Christmas. He loves it! It works much better and faster than standard vacuum devices. A few quick pulls and you're done. My husband was never patient enough to pump 15-20 times with the standard vacuum device. He really likes this one because it only take 4-5 pumps. He really enjoys using it and ACTUALLY uses it.

3-0 out of 5 stars So so, could be better
The vacuum effect is not as powerful as I had imagined. I think you have to pump quite a bit more to get a modest vacuum in the bottle. You can tell the vacuum is on the weak side because if you pry off the top, the suction is not impressive. On the other hand, the smaller wine bottle cover allows you to fit the bottle better in the fridge when compared to other models where the whole vacuum mechanism must remain on top of the bottle. ... A great gift for wine lovers, this powerful, award-winning tool effortlessly extracts the cork from any wine bottle with simple lever action. Gripping handles clamp on the bottle neck; pushing down the lever drives the tough corkscrew into the cork, and raising the lever pulls the cork out cleanly. Releasing the cork from the screw involves the same action, only with the gripping handles clamped on the cork. For strength and longevity this model is ruggedly constructed of die-cast metal and reinforced nylon, giving it the heft of a fine, precise high-tech tool. 5-0 out of 5 stars Now...a pleasure to open a bottle of wine!
I purchased the "Rabbit" for my husband this Christmas. We used to uncork wine with a typical "waiter corkscrew". We are not waiters, and would inevitably spill wine, break corks, and feel like idiots. It took a few bottles of practice to feel like a pro using the Metrokane rabbit. It's really a cool system. I've watched my husband open a bottle of wine in 10 seconds flat. My advice? Be patient. Learn the machine, and after a few tries, you'll be uncorking effortlessly!

1-0 out of 5 stars Forget the Rabbit, buy Le Creuset
I bought a plain rabbit a couple of years ago, and though i liked it, it did, at times, take a lot of strength to get a cork out. Then it broke in the sense that it would pull the cork, but not take the cork out of the corkscrew afterward. So I went shopping for a new rabbit, and read a featured review quoting bad experience (not unlike mine) and recommending the le Creuset "screwpull". Though it cost more, I did buy the Le Creuset, and love it. It is way easier to pull any cork than the Rabbit ever was!

1-0 out of 5 stars Get the same thing for $10.00
This is a very cool product, but there are a million knock-offs out there these days, and you can get them for as little as $10.00! They are almost totally identical, they look just as cool, they work just as well, and the only thing that the knock-offs don't generally have is the fancy wooden box. Cost Plus World Market sells one for $20, and Linen N Things sells one for $9.99. Some companies just don't get the idea of appropriate pricing.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Rabbit Rocks
I am amazed at the negative reviews on the Rabbit. I've had mine for almost two years, with no problems at all. Yes, it is about time to replace the screw, as the teflon coating will wear. The only reason the Rabbit doesn't get 5 stars is that it chokes on synthetic stoppers; about the only thing that works for these is the winged-style puller. Our Rabbit does about 10 corks a week, and up to 50 in a wine party evening. Once you get in the the flow of the operation, it is a breeze. For those who have problems with the Rabbit, simply send it to me, then stick with screw caps, as most other pullers would likely pose a similar challenge.

4-0 out of 5 stars A little drop of oil
The Rabbit is very adept at removing a cork from a bottle. It is not as good at removing the cork from the corkscrew. The handle is just a little too short, lacking enough leverage and requiring a strong force at an awkward angle for the final stroke. Worse, it is very easy to smash a finger at the moment the screw fully unwinds from the cork. This releases all resistance so the handle smashes into the main part. You will definitely learn to grasp near the end of the handle to avoid a mean pinch.

The corkscrew rotates as it plunges into the cork during the first stroke. While the screw is rotating all the force of the handle is pushing down on it. The bearing assembly (part of the screw) is just a couple of washers. Because of friction the screw doesn't want to turn, requiring a lot of force at the handle. The bearing is a weak point of the design in my opinion.

After a few months use the friction got worse and it became more and more difficult to use. It took so much force that eventually the screw bent. I had cut it out with a hacksaw.

I ordered a replacement screw and noticed the bearing was dry of any lubrication. Hmmmm. I added a few drops of motor oil. Now the Rabbit flys! It is SO much easier to use. If the cork is old (we like those old bottles) it is practically effortless to uncork the bottle and to uncork the Rabbit. An amazing difference. New, fresh wines with plastic seals are almost as easy to remove.

My suggestion is to put a few drops of a motor oil or machine oil on the bearings. Remove the cap, take out the screw ("worm" in Rabbit land), and get it totally slippery. If you don't have a quart of motor oil handy, use Vaseline or a mineral oil. Don't use a vegetable oil; it will only work for a while before it oxidizes and turns sticky.

Cheers. ... Read more

You've spent an entertaining evening over several bottles of wine, but now you have a bunch of half-empty bottles sitting in the kitchen. What to do? Enjoy them to the end with the Metrokane Save-the-Wine vacuum pump, which removes the air from opened wine bottles to preserve the wine taste and bouquet. Without the vacuum seal, the oxygen-exposed wine will stale quickly, dramatically affecting the flavor. This ergonomically designed pump is simple to use, and it will let you drink the wine up to two weeks later with few ill effects. The pump comes with two pushbutton stoppers, each of which seals the vacuum tightly. The stoppers also release the vacuum at the touch of a button. --Rivers Janssen ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What you'd expect from the maker of the Rabbit!
I've had enough half-bottles of wine starting to turn vinegar only one day after I opened them. I've tried enough different kinds of stoppers trying to prevent it.

FINALLY -- THIS ONE WORKS!!!

I bought this because it came inexpensively with my Rabbit corkscrew (which is also wonderful) and figured it was worth trying. WOW was it ever! Just put the stopper on the bottle, put the little hand pump on the stopper and give it a couple of pumps, and the wine is good to keep!

On the top of each stopper is a small "vacuum relief valve" -- just touch that to the side to let air back in the bottle to equalize the pressure, and the stopper comes out easily.

It has worked well for a couple days at a time. I haven't tried it for longer.

5-0 out of 5 stars whow!!
I have had the "other" vacuum wine saver and it did the job so-so. Purchased this one as a stocking stuffer for a freind, and they raved about it so much that I got one for myself. It's great - especially the air release valve. Whow, no more wasted wine!! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Tall and elegant, this 12-ounce crystal glass from Metrokane is ideally shaped for champagne and other sparkling wines. Unusual for a champagne glass, a flared tasting lip directs the wine to the front palate, enhancing the total sensory experience. The set consists of 4 glasses.

Metrokane, maker of the renowned Rabbit corkscrew, etches the base of each glass with a tiny Rabbit icon as a symbol of quality. Hand-blown of remarkably clear lead-free crystal, the 9-3/4-by-2-3/4-inch glasses are dishwasher-safe, but hand-washing is always a good idea for crystal. Metrokane also produces crystal specifically designed for white as well as red wines. --Ann Bieri ... Read more

Clad in a black matte-finish that feels like velvet and provides a suregrip even when wet, the handsome tools in this four-piece kit equip a bar ordining room with all the essentials for opening, pouring, and storing wine. Thefoil cutter neatly removes a wine bottle's foil cap. The corkscrew pulls out acork effortlessly. The drip-stop ring slips onto a bottle's neck to spare tablelinens and guests' clothes. The stopper seals in champagne bubbles or protects astill wine from oxidation with a twist of its top. 5-0 out of 5 stars Love this winestopper!
A friend asked for some of these as a gift and I'm glad she did. It works great for both wine and champagne. Seals tight and wine keeps well even over several days. It's very easy to use and there is no leakage if you want to store an open bottle on its side.

Now I'm buying a few more for me and my Mom.

Interested?... don't buy just one, you'll regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Seals Wine & Champagne Air-Tight
I have found that the Velvet Champagne & Wine Sealer lives up to its product name. It seals wine and champagne bottles air-tight, because it expands as you turn it. This means that, unlike other stoppers I have tried, it works on any size bottle. I recently sealed a half-empty bottle of champagne, and a week later it popped when I opened it, as full of fizz as the day it was sealed.

I noticed another reviewer of this product complained that it broke the first time he or she used it. The unit was obviously defective. I would advise returning it to Metrokane for a free replacement.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good thing it was free....
This item was included free with the purchase of the Metrokane Rabbit Corkscrew with Foilcutter (Excellent Item) and it's a good thing. The very first time I tried to use it the rubber/plastic peice on the end broke off dropping to the bottom of my bottle of wine.....Very cheap plastic item, reusing your cork would work better than this item. ...
