Amazon.com Review

This compact two-in-one BlenderChef may be a life-changing appliance, as both a blender and a food processor fit alternately onto the base of this powerful, 400-watt machine. The wide-mouth glass blender jar holds 40 ounces and comes with an excellent SureRest base that keeps it from tipping over on the countertop. The blender has 12 speeds (from "stir" at the low end all the way up to "liquefy"), including a great "icebreaker/pulse" button--stubborn ice cubes beware! (Check the enclosed booklet for tips on ice crushing, because even a champion blender requires some human assistance.) After you've whipped up a slushy drink or puréed carrot soup to a perfect smoothness, it's easy to switch over to the processor attachment (which snaps just as easily in place as the blender), feed a few vegetables through the chute, and have beautiful fixings for salad or stir-fry in minutes. The work bowl for the food processor has a 3-cup capacity with a special feed tube in the lid for adding oil or other liquids without muss or fuss. Included are an S-shaped blade for chopping and mixing and a reversible disc blade for either shredding or slicing. The base of the machine wipes down easily; though hand washing is recommended for the blades, the glass jar and plastic processor pieces are dishwasher-safe. --Erin Brown ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great value for the price
Although there are more powerful, larger capacity food processors and more expensive blenders, this appliance is a powerful little unit when properly used. And it takes up little space on the kitchen counter, making it convenient as well. I have another blender and a cuisanart, but hate dragging them out. I wouldn't ask this machine to do the same jobs, but I have now sliced carrots, shredded hard cheese, chopped cilantro and made dip in the food processor with excellent results. My son has used the blender for his protein and fruit drinks almost daily and is pleased with the crushed ice function. Directions say "use liquid" and the results are very good.

As for the food processor flying off, this only happened when I forgot to lock the unit into place...The unit does not replace a cuisanart, but does serve well as a everyday unit for smaller jobs. It makes an excellent first appliance when money and space are a premium!

2-0 out of 5 stars Use your money for two separate machines
This was a really bad purchase on my part... I thought I would be killing two birds with one stone, but the fact of the matter is, I only cripped one bird, while slightly injuring another...
The best thing about this blender/processor is how easy it is to clean the blender attachment and the thickness of the glass...
The worst thing? Where do I start? If you're looking for a machine that can crush ice, then pick something else. Whenever I tried to crush ice, the melting of the cubes in the blender causes any bits of ice that do get crushed to end up stuck to the sides of the blender, towards the bottom near the blades...
Also, this machine is obscenely loud, I never use it late at night in fear that neighbors will complain...
Hmm, what else? I consider the s-shaped blade for the food processor attachment to be a big embarrassment to the designers/engineers at Hamilton Beach... It is limited in its chopping ability but unlimited in its ability to push all the food you put in the bowl to the sides while chopping nothing... great work guys...
the disk is so so but I've worked with better. Seriously this blender/processor is definitely not worth purchasing. Save up a little extra cash and buy yourself a separate blender and food processor.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Space Saver!
This is great for anyone, because it works well, but I'll get to that in a minute.

This is the best value for anyone with a small apartment/condo without much kitchen space. The more appliances you have, the less space you have. This is the perfect solution. One blender base that can swap tops for a blender or a food processor.

The blender has a good, strong motor, and chops through about anything I've thrown at it, and the food processor seems to work great (though I don't use it too often.) It also has a little extra safety attched. There is a "safety button" under the lid that will not allow the processor to operate if the lid is not on tightly.

That said, I might use the food processor more often if it actually had multiple blade attachments. There is only one, so you can puree or make things like salsa or guacamole(my favorite) but you can't slice your apples or tomatoes, because there is no slicing attachment.

*********

Final thoughts:

This is a great buy for anyone looking for a blender AND a food processor, especially if you have a small kitchen. BUT if you need a robust food processor, buy a cheaper blender and get a separate food processor that has more attachments.

3-0 out of 5 stars Works well enough, but beware of plastic
I got this blender as a Bridal shower gift, and it was wonderful for a while. The blender itself works fine most of the time, but I did find that it made odd noises. After a while the plastic on the base cracked, just a bit, but then it cracked more and more to the point that there's only a tiny space now that isn't cracked. this creates quite a problem since it causes the entire blender to tip, meaning that the pieces that need to connect in order for the blade to turn cannot connect. Hence, I have a broken blender all because of cheap plastic. My advice is to spend a little more money and get something that isn't so cheaply made.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
I have had this blender/food processor for almost three years and have yet to be disappointed. It is a wonderful product, and their customer service is fantastic! Twice I have had problems, and twice they have replaced broken parts - even after nearly three years. I highly recommend both the product and the company. ... Read more

With a 225-watt motor for accomplishing tough jobs, this compact hand mixer provides power and versatility. Two sets of stainless-steel beaters--traditional flat-bladed and easy-cleaning wire--and a whisk for whipping cream and beating egg whites come with the mixer, and six speeds are available by pushing a button atop the handle with your thumb. In addition, just below the speed control, there is another thumb-activated button, which Hamilton Beach calls the QuickBurst. This button provides an extra charge, available at any speed, for powering through tough tasks. Other attributes include a rest so the mixer can hang on a bowl's edge instead of messing up the counter with dripping beaters or whisk, a flat platform on the mixer's end so it stands up for compact storage, a tangle-free cord, and dishwasher-safe beaters and whisk. --Fred Brack ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Little Mixer!
I bought this as a replacement for a hand mixer in need of immediate retirement, and am delighted with it. I like the bowl rest (what a saver of my energy!), the safety feature, and the power it has -- the latter much more than I expected. I long ago learned what I could and couldn't mix with a lightweight hand mixer, so I expect it to last as long as my old one did.

5-0 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise for a hand mixer
I have used this mixer several times now, including some heavy duty dough mixing. I have been very pleasantly surprised with its power considering its size. The slow start is a tremendous feature to keep the mixes from shooting out of the mixing bowl. Its variable and higher than average high speed are really handy to use and control. If only they supplied a dough hook with it, it would then be the perfect hand mixer. But the power is very good in the thick cookie doughs. A former model #62005 included a storage container which would be appreciated by most users of this model. For the price, compared to other more impressionable brand names, this is a very good deal.

4-0 out of 5 stars Powerful little mixer!
I purchased this hand mixer a few months ago because of the incredible deal Amazon[.com] was offering on it. I have not regretted my purchase whatsoever. It is very powerful and mixes thoroughly. I did give it only 4 stars because it is simply a bit too powerful on the lowest setting, and if you are not careful you might lose a little bit of whatever you are mixing :)

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Bother
I received this mixer as a present and immediately went to work making cookies for a holiday party. It blew out on the third batch. They don't make Hamilton Beach products like they used to. I'm sure for ordinary uses, it's fine. It just didn't live up to my needs or expectations.

4-0 out of 5 stars MIX IT UP
The Hamilton Beach Mixer is wonderful! I bought this mixer because my old one was outdated--looked like something from the 70's! The HB has a nice sleek appearance, along with extra blades to do the heavy-duty jobs like kneading bread dough or mixing heavier batters that the regular blades might have trouble with. It's even got enough power to keep "Tim, the Tool Man, Taylor" happy and it won't put a huge dent in your wallet. So if you're looking for something to "MIX IT UP" with, get the Hamilton Beach--it's the best! ... Read more

With the 200-watt Hamilton Beach hand-held blender, there’s no need to get out a heavy mixer and bowl. Drinks can be blended right in the glass, soups pureed in the pot, and cream whipped in a portable bowl. Great for quickly blending small amounts and perfect for vacation-home use, the blender comes with two attachments: an 8-1/2-inch sharp-bladed blending wand with a protective plastic sleeve, and a 7-1/4-inch stainless-steel whisk. Both attachments twist securely onto the power handle and easily remove for hand washing. On the end of the power handle a two-speed button gives the option of low or high speed, and a five-foot cord provides good reach. 1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy, It won't last
I bought this mixer as I really needed a stand mixer and could not afford the one I really wanted, and the 400 watt motor sounded great to me, I made 2 types of candy with it, no problem, when I went to make Peanut butter cookies with it, the motor started smoking and stinking, the Peanut butter cookies killed the motor. So being nice as I am, i just requested a replacement as I figured that It was a defective. Well, I sent that one back, and got the new one (model number and same color, red), and bingo, It died again, motor went out on peanut butter cookies, and my recipie is a soft dough, nothing tough about it at all, my small hand mixer has no problem with this dough. So I don't recommend this mixer for anyone. Stay Far Away!!

5-0 out of 5 stars What a great mixer!
Like so many others that have reviewed this mixer, I had looked at Kitchen Aid stand mixers in the past, and could never bring myself to spend the money on one. When I saw this Hamilton Beach mixer with it's 400 Watts of power for such a resonable price, I jumped at it.I've owned it for three months now, and I love it.It handles heavy dough beautifully - the mixer did not jump around on the counter at all.The attachments are very easy to change, and the bowl comes in and out easily.I can see how there could be problems with the bowl if it is not started properly (think of stripping a screw because it was not started straight). As long as you are careful to line the bowl up when you lock it into place, I do not see this being a problem.

The only downside I can see to this mixer is that there are not any additional attachments available as with the Kitchen Aid mixers. This is not an issue for casual cooks such as myself (this mixer does everything I could want!), but gourmet cooks may want to invest in the Kitchen Aid with it's many bells and whistles.

All in all I love my mixer, and would buy it over a Kitchen Aid any day!

1-0 out of 5 stars RUN FAR AWAY FROM THIS MIXER!!!!
I purchased this yellow mixer at Kitchen Collection.I have a 5 qt KitchenAid but I thought this might be kinda fun because of the 400 watts.I WAS SO VERY WRONG!!! I tried to make a batch of bread...one loaf...and the mixer labored and bounced around on the counter. To top it off, it took 2 people to turn the bowl to remove it from the mixer. All I can say is RUN..RUN FAR AWAY FROM THIS ONE.I love my KitchenAid...I am looking for more power...I think I may invest in a Viking. If you are going to buy anything...at least buy KitchenAid.This mixer gets the big THUMBS DOWN!! Unfortunately for me, it is past the 30 days so I cannot return it.I guess I will donate it to Goodwill!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC PRODUCT!
I purchased this Hamilton Beach mixer over the Kitchen Aid,(both products are already being used in my kitchen) because it was on sale for $129.00 with a 3 yr warranty. The Kitchen Aid mixer was $229.00 with a 1 yr warranty.Hamilton Beach was a much better buy for the same quality.Keep in mind when purchasing your mixer, whether or not you will REALLY need AND purchase all the bells and whistles that come on the Kitchen Aid!Also, what made it easier for me to decide was the beautiful PINEAPPLE color! It really looks more like a light lemon color than a pineapple color for anyone who loves the color yellow like me!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazed
Rather than buy the more expensive Kitchen Aid, I opted to buy this mixer because of the 400 watts power, the tilt back head, and the large bowl.Had I realized what a difference a fine quality tool can make in preparation tasks, it would have been in my kitchen years ago.A large Christmas pound cake recipe with fruit that last year took all my bowls to prepare and nearly killed my hand mixer was done in a jiffy with this mixer, and the kitchen was not declared a national distaster area this time.It also kneaded fondant, making mixing in the color tint and flavoring a 30 second job compared to the evenings I had spent previously preparing it by hand.
The tilt option makes changing the mixing tools much easier.
I highly recommend this reasonably priced mixer. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I bought the mixer as a Christmas gift and I was very disappointed in the quality of the mixer. It is so light weight and flimsy that it does not do a good job with something as simple as a cake mix. The beaters do not touch the bottom of the bowl and you have to keep using a spoon to get it to mix good. Might work ok as a hand mixer but not on the stand. I read all the other reviews and still bought it against my better judgement.

3-0 out of 5 stars Better than a hand beater, but has some problems
I got this unit about a year ago because I was tired of having to stand over the bowl the whole time I was beating or mixing something. I have used it about a dozen times since, mainly for things like banana bread, muffins and whipping cream, and have become irritated with several design flaws. The bottom of the beaters don't come down low enough, relative to the size of the bowl, for small quantities. So if you just want to beat a half pint of heavy cream, for example, you still have to detach the head and stand over it. And it is very awkward getting that head part off, especially while the beaters are moving. It is also awkward to get at the button that releases and lifts the head. And yes, the damn cord gets in the way a lot. However, since the better models are quite a bit more expensive, this one is still the best choice for my limited needs. It works very well when making larger batches of batter, and even with the whipping cream, once it gets going you can re-attach the head and walk away from it. I have not had any problems with the quality, especially given it's low price. And I really like the large bowl.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Product
A great product especially for the price. The mixing bowl is like an added bonus.

2-0 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk
I got this for Christmas a year ago and I was really looking forward to using it because I really like to cook. Wow.. was I ever disappointed. This thing is a piece of junk. The cord gets in the way all the time, you can smell the motor when you've been using it heavily and it's so lightweight, you have to be really careful that it doesn't slide off the counter. Spend the money on a good mixer.. this one just doesn't cut it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too weak for bread dough
I have to agree with the review "Awful". I recently got this as a gift. Since it came with dough hooks I used it to knead my bread dough. The mixer did a fine job for nearly 5 minutes. Then it started to struggle and smoke started coming out of it.

It is nice to have an inexpensive stand mixer, but I wouldn't recommend using it for anything but cake batter. Throw away the dough hooks, they will only kill it. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Didn't last very long....
Bought this mixer to replace my old one that I'd had for over 10 years. It had great features and quite a few attachments. I was mixing some thick batter after owning it for about 4 weeks. I heard a pop sound and it was done.I had mixed thick batter with my other and never had a problem. I am a bit disappointed it didn't last longer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Get what you pay for
I would not use this mixer to do heavy mixing. The piece that holds the beaters in is plastic and breaks easily. The differences between the speeds is not significant. The high causes the liquid to splatter outside the bowl regardless of the deepness of the bowl. The slow speed (speed to be able to add ingredients) is not slow enough. The mixer is really only good for liquids and maybe potatoes.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but cannot handle the tough stuff.
I really liked this mixer. Very comfortable and price is super, I take the best of care of all things however I have gone through 3 of these mixers in the past 6 months. They cannot handle tough cookie dough and will fry the motor without warning! Not going to buy another.

3-0 out of 5 stars O.K. Mixer
I just started learning to bake and this is the first mixer I've owned. It gets the job done, but there are a few things that can be improved:

1. The lowest speed is not slow enough

2. Even the curved wire beaters (the ones without the center post) seem to get clogged easily in tasks such as beating butter.

3. Food does splatter, probably a result of 1 & 2 above. I read in a cookbook (The Best Recipe) that the curved beaters are supposed to be more efficient by driving food down into the bowl while reducing splattering. Not these ones.

One final note on the handle. When you hold this mixer as if you were to mix something, the handle is horizontal to the table surface, like most other mixers. This means you actually need to bend your wrist slightly downward to use it, which causes stress in the wrist and the arm. (My arm gets tired after 6-7 minutes of mixing.) For my next mixer I will look for one with a slanted handel, which fits the hand better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Small Package and Giant Performance
The Hamilton Beach is a light weight, comfortable, small mixer that tucks away in the tiniest nooks of the kitchen. But take it out, turn it on, and this giant of a machine pushes its way through the hardiest mixing task. ... Read more

Equipped with a powerful, 225-watt motor, this 10-speed hand mixer employs "smart" microchip technology that keeps track of mixing time and automatically adjusts power for optimal performance. That prevents overbeating and ensures beaters don't slow down in thick mixes. The two beaters and one whisk attachment included are stainless steel for easy cleanup and durability. Because they don't have center posts cleanup is even easier. To eliminate splattering, the motor has a soft-start feature that gradually accelerates the beaters. Otherwise, speed changes, which are made with a button atop the handle, are instantaneous. A window on the handle displays the power level being used. Another window displays elapsed mixing time in minutes and seconds. Other features include a soft-grip handle, a bowl rest, and a cord-wrap on the handle's base. --Fred Brack ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars not so good
my wife, Rachel, used it alot, and i mean alot! she makes lots of choc chip cookies every day after dinner 4 desert. 3 or 4 days later, she told me that something was wrong. it turned out to be the smart mix or whatever it was. it kept taking away power so it burned up the motor. we were about to get another but i decided to get a refund instead. so she bought another and she still has it so i am enjoying her cookies!lol

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Mixer
I just bought this mixer and I love it! The digital timer is a wonderful idea- it counts how long you have mixing for you from the second you start. The beaters and the wisk are excellent and it is very comfortable to hold. I also loved that you just push a button to increase/decrease speed. And it has 10 different speeds!
The only thing that bothered me is that when you first turn it on it is very slow to start. I thought it was broken! But it just takes a second to turn on. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars More powerful than it looks
I received this mixer last week and let me tell you it's very handy. My daughter loved the fact that it rests on the bowl and I love the fact that you can rest it on the countertop once you are done with it. The pieces are easy to snap on and off. It has tremendous power for the price, this is a great mixer.

5-0 out of 5 stars WHAT A GREAT BUY!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Can't be beat at this price
This is a great item for the price. It's not the best mixer out there but its a great deal for the user that doesnt have more than the basic mixing needs.

I have found this mixer great for things like routine mixing/baking needs (cakes, mostly or even large amounts of scrambled eggs) I can't imagine it working well for stiffer batters like dough, it doesnt seem to have the power (regular beaters only come with this) Its a bit tedious to make meragnue with this too. That was a bit of a dissapoinment.

I don't think that this can come close to stand mixers or even some hand mixers out there. but with the low cost, it's really not a bad item. I don't have the stroage room for a stand mixer (or the bucks) and this is pretty small to store. I do wish the beaters were better for things like merangue because ultimately its not all that hard to mix a cake but egg whites are a bear to whip sometimes... Maybe a second set of beaters would help...

But as I said...for a first mixer...for the price, It really cant be beat.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a bad mixer, but....
This mixer works okay, but I was disappointed that it only came with the regular beaters. I previously owned a mixer (approx. the same price) that also came with curved dough hooks. The little splatter shield that comes with it is useless, unless you happen to be using exactly the same size of bowl as the shield. I still spilled stuff all over. And Hamilton Beach's customer service is VERY DISAPPOINTING. I will not be buying from them again!

5-0 out of 5 stars This mixer met all my mixing needs
I was very happy with this mixer. The 6 speeds allowed me to play around and find a speed that was appropriate to the recipe I was working with. So far I've used it for brownies and whipped potatoes. The splash guard is a very nice feature. My kitchen can get pretty messy when I'm cooking, so it was nice that with this mixer I did not have to conted with batter flying out of the bowl. I could just mix away without worrying about spills. This mixer is the first "small appliance" I've ever purchased for myself. For future purchases, I will probably give Hamilton Beach products first consideration. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This handmixer is great!
This handmixer has various convenient attachments, including a wire whisk!! It is powerful and works fast. It is not very noisy for a powerful mixer. This mixer is not heavy in the hand, alike some other models. The case to store the handmixer in includes a compartment for the attachments! The bowl rest makes using this mixer even more pleasant and convenient. The case to keep the handmixer in for storage is quite compact and fits on my crowded shelf rather nicely! I use a hand mixer in my cooking most every day. This is by far the best one I ever had!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful kitchen addition....
I bought this Hamilton Beach mixer for my mom for Christmas. She is still raving about it. I bought this for her after she told me her old Proctor Silex mixer suddenly started smoking and died on her while she was making one of her famous fruit cakes.

This product is excellent. It's like having several mixers in one. Its various attachments come in handy when mixing various foods, from heavy bread dough to something light such as beating eggs. The Hamilton Beach mixer has flat beaters designed for general mixing purposes, a whisk beater for beating something such as whipped cream, twist wire beaters for beating heavy batters such as cookie dough and dough hooks for kneading bread.

The mixer has 6 powerful speeds but it also has a power burst button that gives you a blast of power. For instance, say you were on the highest speed which is 6 and you needed more power, you just press the burst button and suddenly you are given an extra speed. So your 6 speed mixer turns into a 7 speed.

Another bonus is that the mixer comes with a handy plastic container. This is a helpful solution. Now you will not have the problem of knowing where to find your mixer but the attachments are all over the place. The container has two compartments. The botton compartment is for the mixer and the top is for the beaters. So everthing is store neatly and compactly.

Get the Hamilton Beach 62698 PowerDeluxe 6 Speed Hand Mixer with Storage Case. With the fantastic price and all its incredible features, you can't go wrong.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product!
This is the best mixer ever! 6 different speeds is much needed in my home for all the baking and cooking I do. Mixer is great for something easy like mashed potatoes and can do as much as batches of home made chocolate chip cookies at once! All the extra attachments come in handy too. The best part is the storage case, No more searching around for the beaters! ... Read more

The Hamilton Beach Clean Mix works as either a traditional stand mixer or a hand mixer. The attractive glass mixing bowl sits on a turntable, allowing all the edges of the bowl to be reached by the beaters while mixing. A special Power Boost button helps to get through some of the more stubborn clumps, and the five adjustable speeds are suitable for a wide range of mixing jobs. When the mixer is removed from its base, it can also be used as a hand mixer for smaller jobs or when you need to mix something in a different bowl. The hand mixer has a built-in bowl rest, making it easy to lay the mixer on the side of the bowl instead of having to set it down on the counter as globs of batter rain down from the beaters. The beaters and mixing shield are removable and dishwasher-safe. --Julija Gelazis ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Little Unit
This is an excellent unit for the Price. It does most of the chores that the more expensive units do. The only thing missing is a dough hook. It stood up well during this holiday season. The mixer is just right for hand mixing as well as in the stand (which I used extensively).
