Amazon.com Review

A clever two-in-one idea, this Circulon Classic 5-quart pasta pot comes with its own built-in colander in the lid. When pasta is finished, you simply tilt the pot and drain to either side. The pot also comes in handy for boiling or parboiling potatoes and carrots. Constructed from hard-anodized aluminum, the pot is twice as hard as stainless steel and built to conduct quickly and even. The interior, outfitted with Circulon's signature Hi-Low grooves and Dupont Autograph nonstick coating, ensures easy food release and clean-up. The grooves are designed to protect the nonstick coating and keep food from sticking. Domed for maximum capacity, the 18/10 stainless-steel lid fits securely and has a gleaming mirror finish. The non-slip phenolic loop handles on the sides and lid are permanently riveted, heat-resistant on the stovetop, and oven-safe to 350 degrees F. Notable for its balance, the pot is pleasantly weighty without being too heavy to handle. Washing by hand is recommended for the best results. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Pot
I recently bought this pot and am in love. The straining feature is so convenient. No more carrying hot pots and draining in colanders. Food cooks evenly and cleans up easily. The locking lid allows you to serve food at the table and even store things in the fridge. I highly recommend this pot.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST EVER!
I was given this pasta pot as a gift & I use it constantly! I just love it. It's very sturdy, well made & so convenient. You will love this pot. Buy it now...just do it! :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Its about time.....
I love it and its about time someone came up with this idea. I had bought one of those cheap ones ( $29.00 ). The first time I used it paint chiped off the outside. The second time I used it I somehow acquired a horrible dent. It was too poor of a quality. This one is fantastic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Safe and Sound
The 5 quart Circulon strainer pot is sturdily made, the straining lid works well, is a heavy stainless steel and is a safety measure I like, as I have arthritis and find it difficult to wield large hot pots in draining noodles and potatoes. I simmered chili in this on warm/low! on my burner - it cooked evenly and without hot spots even on my warped electric burner. The handles are nice and roomy between handle and pot to reduce chance of burned fingers. The handles are easier to grasp than round knobs are, for me. This pot comes in a 5.5 chefs pot as well, which I didn't see when I purchased this one. For me, 5 quarts is sizable enough. I've no complaints and hope to get another Circulon pot with the same type of lid, in a smaller size, soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow, easy to clean, tough nonstick
I had the TV Pasta Pots. Waste of money. The nonstick coating lasted about 6 months. I threw them out. I should have taken the $20.00 I spent on them and put it toword the cost of this pot. It cleans up easy and the nonstick is very durable. No regrets on this purchase. ... Read more

With raised, concentric grooves in its bottom providing extraprotection for an exceptionally durable, DuPont Autograph nonstickcoating, this 10-quart stockpot readily releases food and cleans easilyover extended use. 5-0 out of 5 stars great
i first bought circulon cookwear 15 years ago. i love the way the food cooks and how easily they clean up. i recently tried another brand of cookwear and it does'nt compare,(even though the price was similiar)i will stick with circulon from now on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Cookware
The very first time I used this stockpot, I made a chili. After browning the meat and adding the other ingredients, I neglected to turn the flame down so the chili could simmer. Any other pot I own would have formed a burned ring of food at the bottom by the time I returned 30 minutes later, but the Circulon stockpot was merrily boiling. Not only that, but the ENTIRE surface of the chili was boiling, not just a ring around the outside. The heat transfer properties are wonderful! Cleanup afterward is a true breeze, and though I haven't had time to really test it, the finish looks tough as nails. I'm happy with this product, and what a great price! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Circulon products are endorsed by Chef Martin Yan, of the PBS cooking series Yan Can Cook, who claims he's used the same pieces every day for the past eight years with excellent results. While this recommendation may or may not impress, a close examination of the Circulon cookware line should.

The 12-inch electric fry pan, for example, looks like a large round griddle, only it's deeper than most (nearly 3 inches) and set on a very sturdy footed base. Its two handles are covered with phenolic plastic, which really does keep them cool to the touch. An 8-inch rod helps stabilize the pan for flipping pancakes or turning fryer legs, and a chubby half circle on the opposite side is useful for carrying the complete ensemble, laden with braised pork chops or Spanish rice, directly to the table.

But a cook can do much more than fry in this pan: try roasting, boiling, poaching, slow cooking, braising, stewing, and even baking at low temperatures. Its versatility is derived in part from its depth and high stainless-steel lid, which increase its capacity, and its superb heat control, which heats the pan instantly (no gradual warming) and steadily maintains the selected temperature.

Circulon touts its "Hi-Low" system (a series of concentric grooves etched into the nonstick interior) for good reason--while the raised circles are open to the abuse of frequent use, the spiraled surface between remains protected, which is why the pan is guaranteed to stay stick-resistant for at least 10 years. Out of the box, its nonstick properties are superb. It passed my falafel test: mounds of falafel mixture flipped as a unit without crumbling.

The appliance is fully immersible and should be washed and dried shortly after use. Take extra care of the lid, which is prone to speckling. The pan comes with a comprehensive use and care booklet, along with over 20 recipes for appetizers, side dishes, entrees, and desserts--from lamb curry to pineapple upside-down cake. --Carol Gnojewski ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Many design flaws and an electrical FIRE made me unhappy!
.
This skillet is heavy and looks well-made, but it has many faults. After 2 years of use, I'm glad the stupid thing burned up because now I can throw it away!

1. The large handle is inconvenient and unnecessary. It gets in the way when cooking, and especially when you're trying to wash the skillet in the kitchen sink. I've been tempted to wash the skillet in the bathtub because it simply won't fit in my kitchen sink because of the stupid long handle. The handle isn't even practical, because the pan is too heavy to pick up by the long handle alone, even when the pan is empty. They should have put one small handle on each side rather than only one small handle and the one ridiculously large and cumbersome handle they used.

2. The legs get loose and won't stay in place. I tigntened the legs with a screwdriver every time I used this pan. It's enough to drive you crazy. They spin around and make the pan wobbly, which isn't very safe when you're cooking hot foods. DUH! Really bad design on the legs.

2. The knob on the lid is designed so that if you tighten it even the littlest bit too much, it POPS and falls off. The knob can't be replaced due to the way the lid is designed, so you have to buy a whole new lid. What a bad design idea! DUH again!

4. After approximately 2 years of use, I'm not happy with the way the non-stick cooking surface is wearing. It seems to be wearing off even though I clean it gently by hand and only use non-metal utensils.

5. The worst thing of all is what happened last night when I was cooking dinner in this pan. I was browning ground beef, which only takes about 5 minutes or so. Halfway through the cooking, I noticed a strong smell of burning plastic. I didn't see anything melting, but when I unplugged the thermostatic electric cord, it had a very strong smell of burning plastic and burnt wiring. I've spent the entire day on the internet searching for Circulon to see if I can order another cord, but I can't find a website for them, nor can I find any listing in the Yellow Pages here in Chicago, so I guess I'm stuck with a very expensive broken Circulon electric skillet.

I would NOT recommend this skillet due to the many reasons listed above.

I think I'm actually a bit relieved that the thing burned up and that I can't buy a replacement cord for it, because now I can justify throwing the stupid thing away and getting a more practical one that doesn't have spinning legs and a ridiculously long handle that gets in the way!

4-0 out of 5 stars A Shallow Beauty
I had a Presto 'dutch oven' for the past two years;it is essentially their electric skillet with higher sides. I loved this skillet and used it several times a week for everything from frying chicken to making spaghetti sauce to cooking pot roasts and briskets. I'd still be using it, and happy with it, except that the nonstack finish started coming off after a few months. I kept using it until I couldn't tolerate little black flecks in the food. There's no doubt that a nonstick finish can be a godsend for sticky things, but half a nonstick finish is much worse than none! They always say these finishes are nontoxic, but who can be sure?

I went to the store to buy a Farberware, only to learn that they'd been discontinued. I came across the Circulon skillet at a factory outlet kitchen store and decided to give it a try. I have a large flat round griddle/skillet in Circulon that I've had for years, and also the large and small woks.

I've been using this appliance for roughly six months for essentially the same things I used to do in my Presto. However, since the sides are much lower, I can't really do the soups I did in the Presto. For me, the greatest drawback right now is its inability to neatly fry chicken--sides are too low for the grease level without making a mess! And, no, I'm not talking about deep-frying, but instead Southern pan fry style with roughly an inch. However, it does great steaks, croquettes, etc. I haven't seen any wear on the finish so far, and always use the appropriate utensils. It's certainly the prettiest of the available choices.

With the excellent luck I've had with Circulon pans and woks, I'm looking forward to a long history with this pan.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Cut Above the Rest
The Circulon Saute Pan cooks evenly, heats quickly, and the ridged bottom doesn't crack, warp or shed its protective layer. One wipe of the sink sponge gets out material cooked into the ridged bottom. We love it as a primary cooking appliance. One minor beef: some of the legs haven't stayed tight and as a consequence keep rotating out of position; even retightening the screws doesn't solve this. But other than that, this is a slam dunk purchase for your skillet needs. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Too thin - seems to burn food easily
Generally Circulon stuff is very good. I figured that Circulon2 would be even better. Wrong!

The first surprise was the package. The package was so light that I could not beleive that I was holiding a 3.5QT pan in my hands. The sides of the pan are very thin. The bottom has additional layer - but overall, the pan seems thin.

The first item that I cooked in this pan was some rice with vegetables. I followed my usual methods - but this was the first time in over several years, I ended up with burnt rice at the bottom! (Good part was that it was easy to cleanup).

My wife used it the other day and she also mentioned that the pan seemed more susceptible to burning the food.

So overall, I would recommend staying away from this pan! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best pot for cooking anything.
The finish on this pot is excellent. With its no stick finish you can cook pasta, vegetables or anything without sticking. I have always used stainless steel and this is far better even for cleanup. You do not need abrasives to clean. Just dish detergent. The 6 quart size is just perfect for my family of five. You won't be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Combination Design
This type of pot is really a must for those who enjoy making pasta frequently (Atkin's people...that was your cue to stop reading). The design is better than most other Pasta Sets I have seen. The problem is usually with the size of the collander insert in relation to the pot. Sometimes the collander doesn't go deep enough to allow room for enough water/pasta. No such issue here. Everything fits nicely in place and there is the typical Circulon quality.

One point to consider is that this model pot is thinner than some of the newer Circulon products. Though, I've found this to be a good thing. The nicest thing about this pot is how light it is. I have other Circulon styles that are more sturdy, but they really do get heavy - especially when filled with water. I really think Circulon got it right with this particular
version.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Multi Use Pot
I haven't made pasta in this yet, due to the Atkins Diet, but, I've used it for many other things, including Chicken Adobo, and vegetable soup. The non stick works, which isn't always the case, and the pot heats evenly and quickly. I also noted, as a previous reviewer said, the holes in the strainer are large. If you use rotini, ziti, etc, there won't be a problem, and I use the strainer to wash fresh broccoli and cauliflower. All in all, I couldn't be happier.

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll brag to your friends about this gem of a pot !!
Yep - Your gonna sound like a Circulon sales person to your friends. The quality and design of this pasta set is unrivaled.
Theres just nothing to improve on this gem of a pasta set. Made of heavy guage aluminum with stainless steel pasta insert and lid. The two loop insulated handles riveted to the sides of the pot, are just the right size. Even with it's beffy construction it still remains light enough to safely transfer from stove top to sink. If your just making a single pasta serving this may be more than you need, but it also works a stock, stew, and soup pot. It's bottom inner core speeds your water to the boiling point, and reduces the chance of burning thick stews and soups to the bottom. If your not use to cooking with quality cookware the most important point you must remember is reduce your cooking tempeture. High quality cookware conducts heat so much more efficently that high tempetures are not necessary. Use a high setting for bringing water to a boil for pasta only, and once a boil appears, reduce the heat and you can still maintain a rolling boil. The anodized finish, while not stick free like a Teflon finish makes clean up easy with soap, water and multi-purpose scrub sponge. Remember, NO DISHWASHER, the dishwasher detergent will damage the surface of the pot. I bought my first pasta pot durring an Amazon sale. Within two weeks I ordered my second one, as a gift for a friend. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase a third, even at the regular price. This should be a 10 STAR Product!

5-0 out of 5 stars Handy pot to have
I have used this pot for cooking pasta and just about everything else. The insert is really handy when boiling quantities of potatoes for mashing or salad. The size is perfect for soups, pot roast and stews. The heavy weight of the cookware makes for even heat distribution. Cleanup is a breeze. I ordered two more pieces of Circulon as a result of using this piece. ... Read more

This electric wok's new anodized, nonstick finish gives it three times thedurability of regular nonstick woks, and its nonreactive surface lets you cook with lessoil. Also the wok won't change the taste or color of foods, as do some pans of lesserquality. The wok is fairly large, with a 4-3/4-quart capacity. It also has a removabletemperature control, and can be fully immersed in water for easy cleaning. It comes withchopsticks, a tempura rack, a steam rack, and a cookbook to get you started. --JulieMcCowan ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Electric wok - professional style
We enjoy wok cooking several times a week and have gone through several "off the shelf" electric woks. Manufacturers had not yet produced a heavy-duty electric wok until now. The Circulon 14" wok is far superior to any similiar product we have found on the market - price included. The pan is heavy and retains heat exceptionally well. The controls are easy to use and offer the variety of heating temperatures needed for oriental cooking. Although non-stick surfaces have been available for years this pan is truly that. The ability to totally submerge the pan for cleaning is a definite plus and allows the user to hang the pan on a suspended cooking rack system. This wok with be the last one you will ever buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding! No Wok Envy Here
I bought this wok because I have a ceramic top range and could not get good results from so called flat bottom woks and fry pans. I have envied an asian neighbor's gas range and the carbon steel wok he uses. Since a kitchen remodel and a gas range is a long way off for me, I decided to try an electric wok. I read many reviews of various electric woks and was not certain I would be satisified with any of them. I took a gamble on this one and I am not disappointed. I prepared several dishes the first weekend I got this wok and it performs as well as the carbon steel wok on a gas range. It gets extremely hot, very quickly. I deep fried chicken for General Tso's Chicken in this wok, drained the oil, wiped it clean with a paper towel, then stir fried the chicken with sauce for as good and authentic a dish as you can get at any restaurant - crispy in a spicy sweet sauce. I also prepared Szechuan green beens, shrimp fried rice, and fried crab wontons, all with excellent results and the clean up in between dishes was very easy, again requiring a simple wipe with a paper towel in between dishes - even the caramelized sauce remains that usually stick and burn on my other pans. At the end, I just disconnected the control element and washed the wok with hot soapy water in the sink and it cleaned up in a snap - inside and out. I used a metal spatula for all the stir frying and the circulon annodized nonstick looks as good as it did when I removed it from the box. Even my neighbor was impressed with the results. I highly recommend this product to anyone who wants the results of a gas fired wok but for what ever reason can't use one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Customers Beware!!!
I have spent thousands of dollar's, On Meyers cookware everthing from KitchenAid, Anolon, Prestige, Faberware, & Circulan, just to name a few. Though Meyers does manufacture very high quality pots & pans and I would recommend them to anyone it's just sad that if you have any problem with them, under warranty, you have to go throught the chain of command, that never gets you anywhere, even if you want to speak with upper management about the rudeness of the customer service department. Their customer service department employees are always very rude and snotty and they act like they are doing you a favor to even talk to you about their products. Don't get me wrong they do make good cookware, probably the best, but you as the consumer are at the mercy of their customer service and their descision or your fait on wheather your life time warranty is honored or not. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Grill Pan, BUT...
It is a beautiful pan, if you have the right stove to use it. The grooves ("hills") [BTW, they are parallel + not concentric as the Amazon description states] have "valleys" on the bottom of the pan. If you have a gas stove, which I have not, - you will probably be very pleased. Don't expect to use this pan on a ceramic cooking surface or just a plain electric coil element as there is not enough contact between heating source + pan; you might damage either. I gave it away to my college kid w/ a gas stove.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great surprise!
WOW!! I love my other Circulon products and decided to try this. It was great! I used it for chicken and then for a steak. Both came out great. This is by far my favorite grill pan. Try it you'll love it!!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I wanted a colander that drained ALL of the water from my pasta, greens, etc. It does the job - better than my other colanders anyway. It doesn't fit into the ULTIMATE colander category - but it is right up there. I recommend it - especially for the price. The non-stick surface and rubber handles alone are worth the price, plus - it's very nice looking. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Circulon 2 12-Inch Open Stir Fry Pan
Highly recommended.
It's a "2", making it a sturdier, heftier pan than a "Classic." I bought this "2" 12-Inch pan to replace my "Circulon Classic 11-Inch Nonstick Stir Fry Pan" bought in 2000 here at Amazon (= still available at Amazon) because of its slightly larger size.
I gave the 11-Inch Classic [in still perfect condition after all my use of more than 3 years] away to my college kid who wanted to buy one like Mom's stir-fry pan herself.
Just take good care of your pan, wood or plastic utensils only, and DO NOT overheat coated pans, and you'll be happy.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most useful pan I own
Of all the pans in my kitchen, this is the one I use the most. This pan is pretty heavy and is extremely durable, and nothing sticks to the surface, even crusted items that have been burned on the bottom of the pan. They didn't skimp with the handle like on some other pans -- its thickness makes it easy to lift a heavy load of food, and it seems like it can take a lot of abuse. Overall, I think the closest competitor to this pan is the stir-fry pan from Analon, but after holding both in my hands at the store, I chose this one due to the handle and the seemingly-better non stick surface.

This appears to be the exact pan that Martin Yan always uses on his PBS show ("Chinatowns") -- he almost never uses a wok, and when he does, it's the Circulon 2 wok (which I don't have, because who needs it with this 12" stir fry pan). Granted, I'm sure that Circulon sponsors his show, but it's still a good pan.

This pan is most useful as a wok replacement. Because it doesn't have a flat bottom, I can't use it for everything (e.g. omletts), but I also frequently use it in non-wok situations such as pasta sauces. At 12" it can fit a surprising amount of stir-fry, enough for 4-6 people if it's filled to the brim, but occasionally I do wish Circulon made a bigger stir-fry pan besides their wok. I also wish it came with a lid, but I own a 12" lid from another pan, so I don't need one.

After owning this pan for a year, I am so impressed with Circulon that now I always search for pans in the Circulon 2 lineup before considering anything else. ... Read more
