Pop half a lemon or lime in this juicer and firmly squeeze; the half turns completely inside out, with every drop of juice pressed out. The juicer quickly presses limes for margaritas and lemons for baking or lemonade. 1-0 out of 5 stars too heavy for comfortable use; too small for lots of juice
I have an aluminum version of this mexican-style squeezer, use it often and like it a lot, so I wanted to give another as a gift. The soft handle seemed like an improvement, so I ordered this one. Mistake - they mean it when they say heavy cast iron, and the handle isn't too comfortable anyway. The bowl is smaller than it ought to be for modern supermarket limes, and definitely too small for lemons. This is probably why some of the other reviewers thought it squeezed too little juice - I have found you need to use a bigger bowl than you might think to get all the juice out.

4-0 out of 5 stars Updated review - had the fruit in upside down!!
User error!! I want to bump my review up to 4 stars. I saw a T.V. cooking show that was using the juicer, and to my surprise, the cut fruit goes "down", with the cut side facing the holes in the juicer. I tried it out, and yes, now my technique is refined. I still squirted a little juice, but now I can see that the seeds SHOULD get caught, unless they are tiny. Still doesn't get all the juice, but it is definitely now worth "4 stars".

3-0 out of 5 stars Quick for a little juice, not great for several reasons.
The Lemon/line squeezer (mine was green colored) will get about 75% of the juice in a half of a lemon or lime. It is essentially a novelty, that is quick, and fairly easy to use, for juicing a half piece of fruit. This is NOT what I would use if I had to squeeze more than one piece of fruit.
Drawbacks:
1. Need good hand strength to squeeze, since the squeezer is very strong but heavy.
2. Juice squirts out at you, and goes in all directions. (my technique is still being refined)
3. All seeds aren't captured
4. Only about 75% of the juice is extracted.(I like to get all of the juice!)
5. Repositioning the lemon or lime half helps get more juice out, and is usually necessary unless the fruit is very soft.
6. The hinge is made of some reactive metal, that after squeezing a time or two, the juice contacts the hinge, and drips of a grey colored liquid drop from the squeezer(I'm trying to avoid the "grey drips", and maybe with better technique I'll learn how.)

1-0 out of 5 stars Broke on third lemon!
The handle of mine snapped off on the third lemon. You have to use some pressure with this type of squeezer, so this should not have happened. Hurt, too. Also a bit small for home-grown fruit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
I am a huge fan of fresh limeade. I've always hated squeezing limes for it and I've tried just about every inexpensive juicer there is. I finally broke down and bought one of these, and it is great! I squeezed 20 key limes in just a few minutes and it got most of the juice out. It works even better with larger limes and lemons. And, it was easy to clean and looks great - bright yellow with black rubberized handles. The only minor problems it has is that it is rather heavy and a little tough to squeeze (enough that it would be horrible for arthritic people) and it tends to spray the juice all over if you squeeze too fast. Despite these issues, I still think this is the best juicer I've ever seen and I am very pleased with my purchase. It is definitely worth every penny. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

An award-winning study in mechanical design, this juicer is just too cool to hide away in a cupboard. Made of very heavy enameled cast iron with suction cup feet for added stability, the retro juicer works on the principle of leverage: raise the arm to insert the citrus half, lower it to press out the juice. This machine extracts juice completely from all citrus fruits, whether small limes or large grapefruits. A rubber coating adds grip to the contoured arm, and a removable plastic base holds a bowl, glass, or short pitcher (not included). The highly polished 18/10 stainless-steel fruit holder and strainer are easily removed for cleaning and are dishwasher-safe. While the juicer works in a simple manner, it does require some strength to push up and down on the arm. A seven-year warranty covers this juicer, an indication of just how sturdy it is. When the arm is folded in for storage, the juicer measures 11 by 10-1/2 by 8 inches. --Ann Bieri ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars It works but it leaves unsqeezed pulp behind.
This review applies to any color Ojex household juicer. The March 14 review titled "not for the weak or shaky" found under the same juicer but in the color white is correct. I would add that among other bad features, the paint is being slowly ground off the hinge and this paint dust may get in your juice. This is the second juicer I have owned and I still own an electric made by Krups. The Ojex juicer leaves unsqueezed pulp behind that does not happen with the electric. Also, the peel is squeezed along with the pulp so your juice gets the bitter orange oil in it. This is not an issue with the electric. This juicer opens up just barely far enough to accept half an orange. I tried to get a half a grapefruit in there but it wasn't easy. All these bad features aside, I still use it and find it slightly more convenient than the electric. The product works but it is badly designed...just not badly enough to throw it out. ... Amazon.com Review

This attractive and durable mortar and pestle is ideal for grinding almost any herb or spice, from rosemary to anise to chiles (perfect for a piquant red mole). The mortar features a coarse surface for grinding, and is5-1-/2 inches in diameter with 4/14-inch tall sides, while the pestle is 7 inches long. Both are constructed of powder-coated cast iron, which provides stability and strength, and the mortar has a convenient spout on one side and a nonskid base. The pestle’s ergonomically designed Santoprene handle is strong enough to deal with the toughest herbs, but soft enough that it won’t wear out your hands. This combo should last a lifetime--but you do have to treat them with proper care. Before the first usage (and after each subsequent usage) wash the set with a mild dishwashing liquid, rinse with warm water, and dry with a soft cloth or paper towel. Then spread a thin coat of oil over the cast-iron surfaces of both the mortar and the pestle (vegetable oil is recommended, but be sure not to use a salted fat, such as margarine, and don’t season in the oven). Never allow the mortar and pestle to drip dry or wash in dishwasher, and be sure to season all of the exposed surfaces right after they’ve been washed and dried. This will not only prevent foods from sticking but will also prevent rust. --A.J. Rathbun ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Little Rough on the Knuckles
This is a beautiful piece of equipment. It's very well made and should last a lifetime with proper care. The inside of the mortar is quite rough which, I'm sure, helps facilitate grinding of ingredients. But, it's easy to scrape knuckles on this. With a little practice this can probably be avoided. This seems to be the only drawback in an otherwise fantastic kitchen gadget. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Gets all the juice out
I saw this item at a bar once and decided that I had to have it. It takes all the hard work out of juicing a lime. Just stick half a lime in and squeeze the handles together.

The only drawback I have noticed about this juicer is that the lime peels tend to leave some residue on the inside and it's a little difficult to clean off. ... Read more

Simple to operate and easy to clean, this mechanical devicequickly and easily presses juice from all citrus fruits. 5-0 out of 5 stars LOADED
We bought this juicer to replace an electric unit. The OJex is LOADED with features, easy to clean componets, sucction cups for stability, rugged cast iron construction, and stainless steel funnel. My 10 year old daughter uses it and drinks more juice than ever before.

2-0 out of 5 stars It works but it leaves unsqeezed pulp behind.
This is my second juicer. I had been using a Krups electric for the past decade. I thought this would be better: fewer parts to clean; not made of plastic; less effort; etc. But there are some drawbacks. First, you have to pre-squish the 1/2 sliced orange on the juicer or it falls over to the side. Second, the shape of the juicing cone is a compromise. It doesn't do a thourough job of sqeezing the outer perimeter of the orange. Third, it puts so much pressure on the orange that it sqeezes the skin putting the bitter orange oil into your juice. The last two complaints would be universal in this type of machine. I mean with the electric Krups, you can move the orange all around the spinning juicer to extract all the juice and you can't squeeze it hard enough to extract oil from the skin.

Finally, the juicer does not open up enough to easily accommodate a grapefruit. You can get one in there but you are going to lose juice as it scrapes along the outside of the juicer.

It's convenient, it works, it isn't perfect. Despite my concerns, I haven't used the electric one since this arrived two months ago.

1-0 out of 5 stars Ease of Use Exaggerated
I purchased this for Christmas 2003 from Williams-Sonoma (color: tangerine). While the product description states "The heavy lid does all the work for you, applying enough pressure to extract maximum juice", the recipient of my gift found that the Orange-X Ojex Household Juicer requires a substantial amount of pressure be applied by the user before juice is extracted. The disappointed recipient has also informed me that this item is a basic juicer with little or no advantages over other mechanical juicers. She will be returning this item shortly.

5-0 out of 5 stars orangeX
I've had mine all of one day. It provided rainy day fun for the kids, ages 5, 8, 12 and 14! A breeze to use and to clean, and the juice's wonderful! No problem with hinges others mentioned, and we went thru an entire bag of oranges. Only thing you really have to be careful of is the intense pressure when the lever's pulled, and little fingers tending to be where they ought not be! Otherwise, it's fantastic, and now at the top of my list for future wedding gifts!

5-0 out of 5 stars No problems yet
Very heavy and solid juicer. Has a 7 year guarantee so if you do have any problems (some people have complained of weak spots) it can easily be returned. I have encountered absolutely no problems and it has been a joy to use, all with one handed operation.

The drip tray on the base is easy to remove for cleaning and the juicing cup also comes apart for that quick post juice rinse.

My preference was with the professional size juicer but it is much too big for apartment living. This is perfect. ... Read more

Made of highly polished chrome with suction cup feet for added stability, this retro-style juicer works on the principle of leverage: raise the arm to insert the citrus half, lower it to press out the juice. The clever mechanical system completely extracts juice from all citrus fruits, whether small limes or medium-size grapefruits. 2-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, breakable
Okay, this is probably the coolest looking juice press, at a reasonable price, out there. We were excited and pleased with the juicer, but had to return it when it developed cracks in the pressing mechanism. I would recommend getting the cast-iron Ojex model rather than this beautiful chrome plated zinc alloy, which breaks!
Two other smaller problems:
1. While the lower cup that holds the orange half is removable, the upper section is not, making for awkward cleanup.
2. The lever isn't stable in the up/open position, allowing it to sometimes close unexpectedly and possibly causing injury when cleaning, juicing.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too labor intensive for the price
I chose this model because it looked beautiful but it's not worth the price for the amount of work it takes to get one glass of orange juice. I had to press an awful amount and my arm started to hurt from all the pressing. If you have a lot of kitchen space and are going to use it once in a blue moon and want to impress guests, then it's fine because it really looks great on the counter. However, I'm going to return mine and spend 3 times as much for a machine operated juicer that won't break my arm or take so long.

1-0 out of 5 stars ouch!
After scouring local stores in search of the perfect juicer, I decided that the Orange-X products were the best design. However, I wanted the chrome finish that was only available on the Xpress Citrus Juicer, and not available on the Orange-X household cast iron model that I'd found so appealing and available in the local stores. I purchased the Xpress Citrus Juicer from an online retailer and it arrived today. This juicer is stylish, and I had high hopes for it, but I want to use it as a doorstop now. I put in my first orange and discovered that you almost need two hands to extract juice from this machine. The pointy handle dug into my palm as I applied more pressure and left a mark. I switched to smaller oranges without much better results. My simple glass twist style juicer was more efficent and cost a fraction of my new Xpress Citrus Juicer. ... Read more
