Not as good as I remember
It looks like the waffle maker that my mom used for all those wonderful breakfasts growing up. I've had the waffle maker for almost a year now, and after another disappointing round of waffles this weekend, I had to submit a review.
I'd agree with other reviewers that the unit does not get hot enough. I've tried several different waffle recipes, including good ole mom's and each time the waffles are flat as pancakes and soft. I've given up trying to cook pancakes, even with the heat turned up full blast, they never brown.
I've always been a fan of this type of waffle maker, but based on my experiences, I'll be looking for a Belgium waffle maker and stick with my stovetop griddle for pancakes.

Cheap piece of junk
First off, it's a GRIDDLE and waffle baker, not a grill. And second, it's so poorly made that it's frightening to use. Mine fell apart while it was burning hot the first time I used it. I wish I hadn't wasted my money.

Great, Hard to Find Waffle Iron!
It is increasingly difficult to find waffle irons made with stainless steel and that can actually make more than one waffle at at time, which you need for a family. I couldn't find a place to rate the seller, so I hope this will do. I am very pleased with the product and the transaction!

Not the best quality...
My mother has had her B&D Wafflemaker for years and it's fantastic. She bought me this one as a gift, but I have to say the quality is not nearly as good as it used to be. The chrome is very thin and the plates don't always line up easily and lock snugly into place. I had to bend the clips in the front so they wouldn't touch each other and cause the plates to come loose.

I don't agree with other reviewers that it doesn't get hot enough or bake waffles well. As long as you have a good recipe and keep them in long enough (until they stop steaming) then they will come out crisp and yummy. I don't recommend the receipe that comes with the unit- the batter is too thin. I have also used the griddle side for grilled cheese and it worked fine. Be sure to season your plates well before trying to use jellies or cheese on them.

All in all the wafflebaker works well, but the quality could be much better (especialy for the price!).

This product has been so much fun in the kitchen and works great. Grill 4 sandwiches at once. Oh boy are they GOOD! Easy to remove grilling plates make clean up a snap. (Very important for that melted Cheese over the edge!) Makes 4 waffles at a time. This is not a product to let your children use. The outside lovely chrome surfaces get extremely hot when in use and take a while to cool off after use. Try a Black & Decker citrus juicer if the kids want to help. Good value and does the job
We have been very happy with this product. It has really ruduced bing time and effort. Battery life seems fine. It's powerful enough, but more power is always better. We haven't really found use for all of the extra adapters/fitting and primarily use just the scrubber for our bathrooms. It was an average value for the price $40, but it's not like there are 100 out there to choose from. I'd recommend the product, particularly if you're tired of scrubbing and would rather just hold the product while it does the scrubbine (weak arms may still get tired because you have to press).

The Bomb
I have been thinking about getting one of these for ages. I don't know why I ever waited.

I have an off white shower & no water softener so I have mineral build up. With a busy family the last thing thought about is the bathroom. It takes hours to try to scrub the stuff off. This makes short work off it.

Sure the battery doesn't last that long, about 1/2 hour, but that's ok. Do 1/2 then recharge & do the other 1/2. After the hard stuff is gone then 1 battery will do fine. Well I have extra batteries because I have a Black & Decker Dremel tool which is the bomb too. It is hard to get into the corners but you can't have everything I guess.

I recomend this to anyone who wants to spend less time cleaning the bathroom. It's great. Get the one with the extra attachments. I think it is going to be great come Spring on the patio furniture, etc.

If you have an electric toothbrush then you have an idea of the difference between this & scrubbing by hand.

Adequate Power For The Purpose
I bought this to help me out when I was re-caulking and deep cleaning the shower/bath in our apartment and it really helped me out. I usually just take a brillo bad to the hard-to-clean areas, but all I had to do is hold this down on the area to get it clean. The only thing I would change about it is battery life. 6 hours to charge it enough for 30 minutes isn't very convenient if you have a lot of work to do. I know that it needs to be battery for electric shock reasons, but some sort of power attachment for areas you won't be submerging the scrubber in would be better.

Good for some things, not a lot of muscle
I bought this expressly for cleaning the shower. I'm a big strong guy, but lazy, and the repetive scrubbing and awkward angles of cleaning a shower make that the only cleaning task I truly despise.

I just now tried cleaning my shower with this thing, and it helped with a few things, but didn't really cut down on cleaning time like I had hoped. First of all, the Wide Area Brush attachment is useless for this task. The different models come with fewer or more attachments, so make sure yours comes with the blue Coarse Scrub Pad.

For the rim of the tub it was a lot faster to scrub it by hand with a regular brush. The bottom and the walls worked ok with the machine, and the fixtures were a lot easier than using my own muscle, primarily because the angles and protrusions make it hard to scrub by hand.

The long handle extension is useful in some circumstances, but wasn't long enought to let me stand while scrubbing.

In all, if you're strong but lazy (like me), the ScumBuster may not be the dream solution you are looking for. It doesn't really save time over manual labor, and isn't fast/powerful enough to get tough mold, etc., better than hand scrubbing.

OTOH, it's great for hard-to-get-to areas around the faucet, and might be a boon for a weaker person who can't scrub hard enough to get rid of tougher stains. It'll just take a really long time.

Although I've used it only on the shower so far, I imagine it will be very helpful on carpet, where it seems that no matter how hard you can scrub, it still takes lots of repetition to get a stain out.

If you're looking for a (probably) good carpet cleaner and an easy way to scrub around faucets, the toilet, and other obstacles to scrubbing, this is what you need. If what you're looking for is an easy way to get rid of tough shower stains, you'll probably be disappointed.

After three days with Black & Decker's Flavor Scenter, I had used it to perfectly steam asparagus, artichokes (flavored with garlic in the steamer's flavor screens), and leeks. Though I doubted its usefulness when I first got it, I was a convert! This is an extremely useful appliance, a real boon especially to those trying to eat more healthily. The steam bowl's oblong shape perfectly holds vegetables, such as asparagus and corn, as well as three (or six, when layered) mid-size artichokes, which fit in upright. The rice cooker bowl is slightly smaller but can still hold 7 cups of cooked rice. Put water in the base and vegetables, seafood, or rice in the steamer; set the timer according to the instruction manual; and have your hands free until it rings. A Must-Have for a complete kitchen
I love this steamer! I have used it for vegetables, rice, hard-boiled eggs, and making my own babyfood! I started out keeping it in a cabinet, but I found I use it so often, I moved it out onto my countertop. I have already recommended this product to several friends, and now I am buying one for someone as a gift. It makes perfect rice everytime. I love the timer. It comes with a wonderful guide for ideas and recommended cook-times. The herb/spice flavor scenter is an added bonus. This is the best purchase I have made for my kitchen in a long time, and my family is eating healthier now because of it.

Good as a steamer - lousy for rice
I used this while staying at a friend's house and found the following things:

1) It steams vegetable okay; 2) Does not do traditional rice well at all;

The rice that this steamer could do was stuff like Uncle Ben's or Minute Rice (parboiled rice).

If you eat rice a great deal then I would recommend buying a rice cooker like Tiger or Zojiruishi (sp?). Which are designed to handle the boiling and steaming of rice as its main function. Most of these lines also handle steaming vegetables as well. Further there is a warming function in a specialized rice cooker that this black and decker does not have.

The machine itself has the usual black and decker aesthetic of clean design and easy dial but it is not satisfactory in cooking rice. The results were inconsistant with regular rice (both long grain and Japanese short grain - did not have a chance to try Basmati).

If you are getting this just to steam vegetables it is fine. But if you are buying this as a rice cooker then spend the extra and get a specialized rice cooker.

If you are getting a rice cooker please note the following:

1) Never buy a cooker that uses an unlined Aluminium pan - it will make your rice taste off and the pan has a shorter life span because every time you scrub aluminium shears off (that's not dirt that's metal in the dish water. Teflon coated is fine and so is stainless steel.

2) The cooker should have a warming function - this is pretty standard;

3) Compact and tucks away easily - nicer models can be brought straight to the table since the power cord is retractable.

4) Evaluate the amount of usage you are going to get out of it before buying a model. There is no reason to get a Neuro-fuzzy logic $250+ rice cooker if it is only an occasional thing for you.

Skip this cooker for rice.

This product has passed the test of time
I have owned my Black and Decker steamer for almost three years and I can say that I have been happy with it for that entire time. I have been most pleased with the quality of the machine itself (mine has never had a problem or malfunction), but there are several other features I appreciate too.

1. The manual that came with mine has a very extensive chart of various foods and how long each needs to cook in the steamer (this is most helpful!). I primarily use my steamer for vegetables such as asparagus, brussels sprouts, green beans, carrots, red potatoes, and corn on the cob. Although B&D boasts it as a possibility, I have never used my steamer for rice because I do not see how piles of rice would/could cook evenly! I have also never felt the need to try the fish recipe included in the manual because I didn't want my kitchen, or the plastic parts of this appliance to retain a "fishy" smell.

2. I also agree with the previous reviewer who states that this appliance is a snap to clean. In most cases all it needs is a thorough rinsing under very hot water and then a wipe down. When I first purchased this steamer I lived in the country and had fairly hard water (high mineral content) which caused a bit of a lime build up on the heating element of the steamer. My worries about this have proven to be needless as I have now owned it many years and these occasional mineral buildups on the heating element do eventually fall away as you wash it after use.

3. The model I have is the same in every way as the one being sold with the exception that mine comes with a stacking ring and another steamer basket so that you can actually steam two different foods at the same time. I paid nearly twice the price that Amazon is currently offering for a single basket steamer though, and if I were doing it all over again, I would opt for just the single basket model.

I highly recommend this purchase as a quality product at a great price with the added benefit of enabling you to eat more healthy foods.

Cheap and easy way to steam
If something can be steamed, this thing can steam it. I use it for rice, veggies, tamales, etc. It cooks perfect rice, and while not quite as convenient as a rice cooker, it's a whole lot cheaper (and combines functionality). Definitely one of my favorite kitchen toys!

this is the best food preparer item ever! everything you read here about the BandD steamer is true (all good!) i just bought mine today. and im using it for the 2nd time today. (had one years ago, but it was a bit discolored from all the steaming.) im vegetarian and love to steam vegetables and rice so it's perfect for me! i don't even need a conventional stove (unless i need to bake) for lovers of fresh collards and kale - this cooks in less than 30 minutes! i even baked a potato! thank you black and decker!

not for rice
After a series of really bad experiences with rice cookers that died after less than 5 uses, I searched Amazon for something well rated. I bought this item because it was cheap, was a steamer supposedly doubling as a rice cooker, and it was highly rated. I just made my first batch of brown rice the other night and it took TWO HOURS. The recommended time for 1.5 cups was 65 minutes, but when I checked at that time, the rice still looked like soup. I set it for 20 minutes three more times, and the liquid was finally absorbed, but the rice still had a few crunchy spots. I would say not to buy this if you're thinking about using it for rice. I haven't tried the other features yet, but I'm sure it works fine as a steamer.

Great Present for healthy eaters
I received this as a wedding gift in June 2004, and I must say that is little machine is very good. You don't have to wait for a long time when cooking fresh or even frozen veggies. Also, I used it to steam some shrimp, so it can be used for various foods. Great for people watching diets, you can add as much salt or seasoning as you like in the little area they have to steam and season the food at the same time. Since I am on a Sodium control diet, it is very important to watch my salt instake and with this steamer I can add it myself with fresh foods (instead of the packaged foods).

My parents have one and I requested one from the for xmas. It's great I'm not the best chef but I can't mess this up. On the back there is a guide with the vedgy and spices and the amount of time to set it for. Fool proof. A must have!!!!

A must have
This item is great! I have had one since they first came out. They do a great job with fresh vegetables. You can cook frozen ones in it too but fresh is better. I bought my Mom one when they first came out and she loved it too. I have a couple of Aunts who saw it when they came to the house for dinner and really thought the vegetables tasted great. They are really hard to find in the stores now. I just ordered 3 more. 2 as gifts and one as a spare in case mine stops working. I have had it for several years now. I LOVE this thing.
I purchased some inexpensive "assembly required" furniture (coffee table, entertainment center, nightstand, and few other kits). As an afterthought, I purchased this rechargeable screwdriver. I'm glad I did.

Cheaper than a full function drill (and a lot lighter), this screwdriver is small, maneuverable and just what the doctor ordered. No more sore forearms and wrists. So far I've use it to assemble furniture, take apart PC cases, screw down hard drives, add new faceplates for phone jacks, and even drove a few screws into drywall.

When the battery runs out, or you need extra torque, you can lock it into manual and turn it like a regular screwdriver. It is well built and rugged. I highly recommend this product.

No Stripping Or Over-Tightening
Let me start out my saying that I love my wife for getting me this as a gift. This is the gift that just keeps on giving.

The Black & Decker 9074TB 3.6 Volt Screwdriver is perfect for any job around the house that would involve the painstaking task of driving in screws. I just finished putting up several shelves in my bedroom, and it has never been easier thanks to this wonderful product.

The automatic spindle lock gives you much better control, allowing for no stripping or over-tightening, or even just for simple, manual use. Its sleak design and narrow nose gives you the ability to get into tight places with great ease.

This is a well-designed product with a super charge life. Besides being durable and fairly lightweight, the wall-mounting charge base should make it a lot easier to find. This screwdriver works extremely well, and will make a fine addition to any tool box.

great for the average do-it-yourselfer
I got this for my spouse and he loved it. Its easy to use, runs as long as he needs for the minor projects and repairs he does. If you are a professional who'd use a tool like this, it won't last nearly as long as you'll need. The target audience should be the average John or Jane who really just wants to make the few times a screwdriver is needed a month less work so things get fixed in a timely fashion.

JUNK - Broke after using TWICE
I received this driver for Christmas, used it twice, and then heard a loud grinding sound. After taking off the drive head, I noticed that two metal posts securing plastic gears had sheared!

By comparison, my Skil driver is going on 10 years!

B&D is JUNK!

Useful, sort of.
I used to use a B&D cordless screwdriver, but gave it away when I found it often took as long, or longer to use this tool than using a manual screwdriver. Sure, it's faster when you have a LOT of screws or very long screws, but a cordless drill is faster still, and has the advantage of variable speed and more power. Using this screwdriver to drive long wood screws is an excercise in patience as you watch it sloooowly drive the screw in and then quit halfway as it runs out of power.

Cordless screwdrivers are cheaper than drills, true, but overall I think the classic 7.2volt Makita cordless drill is just about as compact, much more versatile, much more powerful, lasts much longer and will drive a lot more screws on a charge. ... Read more

great, but not perfect
Bought this as a first citrus juicer and have been quite happy with it. Extracts pretty much all juice, is powerful and very easy to use - also light and easy to store. Problems I found? Not enough pulp makes it into the juice and strainer is hard to clean unless you do so RIGHT after juicing. And sadly, because it is just plastic, ours is now cracked and handle is broken. We're looking for a heavy duty replacement. Still, a great buy, especially for the price!

Florida Girl with Citrus Trees Approved!
This juicer is awesome. It is light and small in size which makes it not only easy to store but makes me willing use it all the time - no dread of lugging out some huge, heavy contraption. I live in South Florida and have a yard full of grapefruit, orange and key lime trees - this juicer does them all like a champ. With the two sizes of the juicing cone, one juicer takes care of all of my citrus. The strainer pops apart very easily and is a snap to clean with running water alone! You do not need to apply much pressure when using the juicer which allows you to juice many fruit in a row since your arm doesn't get tired. I love the adjustable pulp strainer - my husband likes lots of pulp, I like a little, and some friends just like the juice alone - no problem with this little workhorse. I also love that it gets all the juice out of the fruit - the fruit is dry after going on top of this machine! The juice flows right into the pitcher which makes it perfect for pouring right into your glass or into any other container - pitchers, plastic zip top bags, etc. I had looked and looked for a good juicer and most were expensive, bulky, hard to clean, etc. but not this great machine. I was skeptical since it is so cheap, but thought, "Well, what do I have to lose since I'm not spending much on it?" - now I'm in love with it. I'm such a fan that I just bought a second one to take to our vacation house!

Awesome !!
I received this yesterday and I juiced 25 lemons in no time! LOVE this product. SO far, I do not see any problems like some others have mentioned. The pulp switch worked beautifully. I just love it!!

Perfect for the home kitchen
This little item works very well, and exactly as described. I have an orange tree, two lemon trees, and a lime tree, and it handles my juicing needs just fine.

This is great!
I just bought this last night and had soft serve ice cream in less than 5 minutes! I did put the parts in the freezer for about 15 minutes and the ice cream was relatively soft before using. It DIDN'T take two people to operate because you DO NOT have to hold the on button down. And any ice cream left on the grinder thing just went right back into the freezer for next time. I am very impressed with this machine. I read all of the reviews before I bought it but my husband loves soft serve so I bought it anyway.

Tonight I'll try mix-ins since clean up was a snap with just some hot water. And at $15.00 at Home Depot I think it is a great find.

Great treats for kids
I have this and my kids just love it. It makes great softserve ice cream. Ice cream does need to be very hard for it to work correctly. Also it does seem to waste some ice cream. I gets stuck in the spindle and you can't get it out unless you take the unit apart.

Too much work and better in theory than practice
The idea of soft serve cones spurred me to buy this item, but it turned out to be a lengthy, time-consuming process to get it to work. Now, whenever I want a soft-serve cone, I look at this machine sitting in the corner and contemplate if it's worth it. It's not. My husband, kids, and I usually decide that the hassle of driving to Dairy Queen 20 minutes away is less hassle than dealing with this machine. However, if you have time on your hands, like fooling with gadgets and messy, melting ice-cream (you have to serve it immediately; can't wait for everyone to eat theirs at once, and don't mind the headache of constantly filling this machine, then maybe you'll like it. It's too much headache for our family, although in theory it seemed fun.

Wonderful product
We love our Arctic Twister. It makes a delicious treat quick and efficiently. I plan to put it to good use all summer long.

In this day of technology and the fact that Black and Decker are supposed to be a reputable company, this was a piece of garbage.
If you have arthritis, I definitely would not recommend. You have to have two people to operate this. Not worth the effort!! How'd I live without it before?
I've owned 2 of these for a couple of years, now, and have given them heavy daily use. Great for making tea, coffee via french press, soups, jello- anything for which one requires hot/boiling water. Quick, relatively quiet, attractive, sturdy- a quality, value buy!

Works great, for a while
We were pleased with this kettle, looks good, boils fast. However, after 16 months, it leaked and then stopped working (presumably something shorted out). Not terrible, but these things should last longer!

i love it
I think I've had it for a year now, and I'm really happy with this kettle. It's amazing how fast it heats up. Particularly if you're just making a small batch of tea. It is fairly large on the counter, but fortunately I have enough room.

plastic inside
The scale filter base is made of black plastic, which goes all the way to the bottom inside the kettle. My reason for choosing a more expensive stainless steel kettle was to avoid boiling water contact with the plastic. It is not possible to remove plastic parts from inside of this kettle, and I have to return it.

A disappointment
We wanted to buy the B&D "ergo" electric knife, but we could not locate one in time for Xmas, so we bought the EK800.

The first time we used it, the knife sliced a standing rib roast into beautiful thin slices. The second time we used it (on a baked ham) food stated slipping in between the two blades. This is the problem with the EK800, the slicing blade is actually two thin blades that sort of lock together. When we attempt to slice meats, thin slivers of meat get in between the two blades, making slicing impossible. We thought it might be our "technique", but we tried it on several more roasts nd no matter how we use it, food gets between the blades. It's too late to return it, so we'll keep it for slicing homemade bread, but we'll be looking for another electric knife for carving meats. ... Read more

Fabulous Little Mixer!
Compact and lightweight, this little mixer is a must for everybody's kitchen. It stores easily, and the blades pop out for quick and easy cleaning. The body of the mixer wipes down well, too, which is important when you're blending something that spatters everywhere. There is an actual different between the various speeds you can select, and although you might have to push down a little to incorporate, say, butter, into a recipe, overall the little mixer does its job well... and it lasts a long time. A great and inexpensive gift for your favorite cook!

Black & Decker all the way!
The first thing I looked at when I opened the package was how flimsy the beaters looked, I was afraid they would break if I used it for mixing a thicker batter, but then I plugged it in and turned it on. I was amazed at how much power this mixer had! I had considered buying the 300watt mixer because I tend to make thick batters and I was weary that this couldn't handle it, but I was so wrong. It worked great on everything I've thrown at it so far, from coffee cake batter to oatmeal cookies I've had no problems. However I would advise caution on using it for very light dry mixtures such as strudel topping, it has too much power and things go flying. The spatula attachment is great, it scrapes the sides of the bowl so everything gets easily blended. I would highly recommend this mixer as a powerful alternative to some of the pricier brands. ... Remarkable
Yeah, it's not cheap, and you have to buy pads, but boohoo, people. Cleaning delicate clothes has never been cheap. The point is this product really, really works. It's totally something you wouldn't expect to work, though. An electronic stain remover? What is this, 1950?! But it really does get the job done. Taking a shirt to the dry cleaners is not a better option because this machine pays for itself in less than 20 shirts. Plus, at the dry cleaners your shirt is rolling around in chemicals, some of which are very unsafe, environmentally and possibly medically. And your clothes are rolling around in this stuff that other shirts have been cleaned in. Would you clean your dishes in dirty dishwater? Of course not. But that's what dry cleaning does. Tide Buzz is a must for a single guy, or if you don't have 100 shirts you can choose from at a moment's notice. I recommend this product highly.

They get you coming and going...
It's one thing to give away the razor and make $ off the blades, but the makers of The Buzz have instead chosen to get you both coming and going.

If all this gadget cost were $50 + electricity, I could probably live with that. After all, my fancy iron cost about that much, and I shelled out $80 for my garment steamer. HOWEVER, after lightening my wallet to the tune of $50 at a local linen & bath store, I soon felt pretty stupid at the thought of paying $5 for a TINY bottle of cleaning fluid and another $5 for some little absorbent pads for as long as I own this product, and took it back a week later for a refund.

If someone discovers cheap substitutes for these consumables (who knows...maybe liquid detergent and paper towels would work?) then I might consider buying one of these. For now, it's easier and MUCH more cost-effective for me to just take any stained clothing to the $1.75 dry cleaner down the street.

Could be better
Like the other reviewers, I agree that this waffle maker is hard to clean, especially in the front. There is a nickel-width gap where all the spillover can get into. It's very hard to clean that gap out. Also, it DOES overcook the waffles. So, don't follow the timer. Cook for 2.5 minutes and it's perfect. Decent sized waffles. Looks nice with the chrome finish.

WHO DESIGNED THIS?
Why would anyone design a waffle maker that is hard to clean? If you like spending your time picking waffle batter out of crevices with a toothpick then this is the waffle maker for you. You also have to remove the waffle before the light goes out or it will be overdone. I judge when I should open the lid by the amount of steam coming out but should I have to? Don't companies test their products before putting them into production? I won't be buying anything by Black and Decker again.

Nice waffles
I love Belgian waffles, and I got this for my mom for Christmas so she could enjoy them too. The first machine we had, everything was burnt. So we returned it and got another one. I found out that if you wait until the timer light goes out, the waffles are a bit dark for my preference, but I solved that problem by taking them out before the light went out. CHanging batters also helped.

The size of the waffles is good, and the maker forms a pretty good seal. I havent had batter leak out of it yet, and if i did, it's easy to wipe clean. I have never gotten batter on the lower handle, as I put the batter in the middle of the machine and sort of spread it outwards.

Overall, it's a great waffle maker, and I recommend it.

Horrible Clean-up
I would not recommend this waffle-maker. The lower handle provides a place for batter to ooze into, and it can't be cleaned out! And you can't unscrew the screws to get at the area.
