Polder's cooking thermometer with timer and clock rids cooking of internal temperature guesswork. Insert the 7-inch probe and set the alarm temperature--in Celsius or Fahrenheit. The large LCD readout on the magnetized display presents the internal temperature continuously during cooking. The loud five-minute alarm gives you plenty of time to respond. Also, when not in use, the independent timer may be used as a convenient kitchen clock. --Madeleine Miller ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great with reservations
This is a great item to have in your kitchen. It makes cook so much easier. You can tell exactly when a roast is done or a chicken is cooked to a high enough temp.

You can set the clock to beep at a certain time, or at a set temperature. I like that it has a magnet on the back. I'm able to store my unit on the refridgerator and use it as a timer too.
It is a small unit and that makes for easy storage.

Although I haven't had any problems with mine yet, I'd just be warned that all over the directions it talks about the damage that water and other liquids can cause. I'm very careful with my unit, but I can see how, with very little effort, it can be ruined by liquids.

I did some research before buying this. I found that there were cheaper ones out there that won't work as well or may have more problems. I also found better quality ones that don't seem so fragile, but they were also much more expensive. For the money, I thought this was one of the best buys.

If something did happen and I ruined this one, I'd buy a new one with out hesitation. It is just that useful to have around.

4-0 out of 5 stars Really excellent product, but a few little nits
This is an excellent product. It makes roasting meat as easy as 1-2-3. Products come out of oven cooked exactly right, as faster than use of other thermometers, as you don't lose heat by opening the door to check the temperature. Really helps to prevent overcooking things like turkey, roast beef, etc.

Tou can also time something while using the temperature probe to cook another thing.

So, why only 4 stars? Two reasons:

1. Setting temperature to alarm at is not intuitive.

2. Probe is not water proof, and if water gets into the stem of the probe, it's dead.

But I still love the two I have, and if one breaks, I'll replace it with another.

4-0 out of 5 stars It Works Well-You Just Have to Use It Correctly
Evidently the people complaining about this item are not reading the instructions or using it correctly:

1)You have to read the instructions to learn how to set it up--just like a VCR, DVD or any other device--which is probably the answer for the person with the HI/LO problem.

2) You have to insert the probe in all the way to get a correct reading--and you have to avoid bones in the meat. If the probe is halfway out, it can't get an accurate reading!

3) As for the person whose thermomete died after putting it into a 750 degree oven, where was that oven from--Mars. Conventional ovens generally only go up to 500-550 degrees. What were they cooking at that sort of heat anyway--a dragon?

This thermometer works beautifully--with it I have made the best meats I have probably ever cooked. Yes, you have to treat it gently, but if you want something that you can bang around with impunity, go buy a cheap thermometer in the supermarket and be done with it, or be prepared to replace this one time and again.

One small gripe: no on/off switch, so I have to keep removing the battery and reversing it to store it. Otherwise, nothing but praise.

1-0 out of 5 stars Didn't work, right out of the box.
Temp reads only "Hi" or "Lo"...nothing else.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
I've gone thru two of these thermometers and NEVER got an accurate reading from either one. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Super handy & loud!
I keep my timer right on my fridge (it has a pretty good magnet on it) and use it pretty much every time I cook. It's much easier to use than the big clunky wind-up dial timer I was using and much more dependable. The buttons are easy to set. A press with a knuckle or 2 is really convenient when your hands are sticky or greasy from cooking. Several reviews mention that the alarm is loud. It is a bit startling when it goes off but if it wasn't it wouldn't be a very effective timer! From a cooking standpoint, I like that when it goes off and I'm too occupied to shut it off immediately, it will continue to sound for 1 minute (the count is reflected in the display) and stops after that. I can hear it from upstairs so I've never even used the neck cord. I am very glad I bought this timer. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I feel I've not owned it long enough to vouch for it's longetivity. I can only say that I ordered mine in August 2002 and have had it on my fridge since then. And to date I've had no problems with it. I depend on it 3-4 times a week when I cook. I wish I could give it 4.75 stars but this rating system doesn't allow for that!

5-0 out of 5 stars It has a number pad!
This is a great kitchen help, and I recommend it to everybody. One really great feature is the number pad. I can put the exact amount of time I want (to the second) directly, and not have to hit some "minute" button a zillion times (I alway get impatient, hit the button so fast I go past the number I want and have to start over. Super annoying!)

The shape is easy to carry in a pocket, or you can hang it around your neck. Keeping the timer with you means you will hear it wherever you wander. Though the alarm is loud enough without being obnoxious.

It will count up, or count down, and it has a clock, too. And it has a magnet, so I can put it on the fridge door if I don't want to carry it around.

I think I will look for a better looking and more comfortable neck string to put on mine, and I found I needed to shorten the string a bit, because the timer was hitting the edge of my desk as I'm working at the computer.

Other than that, it is a very useful gadget, and other timers with these features cost a lot more. I highly recommend this, expecially for the absent-minded cook!

5-0 out of 5 stars Versitility
This timer/clock/stop-watch is great for the kitchen, out on a run or timing the kids' math problems. Love the string to keep it close by.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Kitchen Timer Ever!!
My mother bought this timer for me last Christmas as a replacement for a cheaper digital timer that I absolutely hated. With other timers, if you are baking something for 25 minutes, you have to press the minutes button 25 times. How annoying! With this timer, you just press 2-5-0-0 and the Start button. Super simple! And if you leave something in the oven longer than the original time, it will automatically count up, too! Now I'm considering purchasing one for my hairdresser who currently uses an old-fashioned dial timer. If mine ever broke, I would definitely replace it with another one just like it. Believe me, once you use this timer, you will never go back!

When a recipe calls for measurements in weight--say, 2 pounds of apples for Grandma's killer apple pie--use this small professional kitchen scale instead of guessing. This scale will measure up to 11 pounds or 5 kilograms, whether it's a sack of rice or a bunch of tomatoes. The body and removable bowl are made of noncorrosive stainless steel, and the bowl is held firmly in place by upturned braces. The face is over 6 inches in diameter, so the numbers are huge and easy to read, even when you've got a little flour in your eye. Measurements are printed in pounds (black) and grams (red). To clean, wipe down the body with a damp cloth, and hand wash the bowl. One-year warranty. --Doree Armstrong ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT SCALE FOR BUSINESS USE, TOO!
Pelouze® you LOSE: The Polder® is a G.O.R.G.E.O.U.S. 11-LB. SCALE with a big 'n beautiful face that for once you can actually read without a magnifying glass!! When I read others' comments about the metal being "light weight" I about gagged - what, you want to use it for armored transport? A suspension bridge perhaps? What are you weighing, a tuna? Getouttahere!! This contender is solid state and it enters the ring at about the weight of what a double pack of ground beef (+ one more slab) would be, if that's any help. 'Heavy' is a term of art, but the one thing this scale is _not_ is light - or puny. It's adjustable, with a lovely removable stainless steel bowl for which its 4 positioning prongs actually help to "grip" parcels when you're not using the bowl. The prongs make it thoughtfully adaptable to using other bowls, too.

I bought it for use in my business. That's right. I often have to weigh parcels exceeding 5 lbs., and I'm just sick of Pelouze® ripping off the business community with their midget, hard-to-read, overpriced scales with a weighing surface the size of a playing card. And how brilliant for Polder® to make it 11 lbs. instead of 10! Most delivery pricing has a cut-off at exactly 10 lbs., so this way you can tell when you're _over_ 10 lbs., and by how much. I bought mine on a Gold Box offer and my only regret is that I didn't buy two so I could have a second one for my kitchen. Weigh 2 go Amazon[.com]!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for baking
This attractive stainless steal scale is great. You can measure out your dry ingredients, which is often the most accurate way to bake. They slide out very easily. No batteries or power source needed. 11-lb capacity makes it a very useful tool in my home. I never thought I needed a scale, but since using it, the quality of my bread and other baking has improved.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Look - Works Well
This is a cool scale, with a retro/antique look. I don't think it looks cheap. It is actually a lot larger than I thought it would be, though, so make sure you have room on your counter. Removable tray is nice because you can put wet messy items directly on the scale and then just rinse off. You can adjust the calibration manually to zero, if you want to use another type of dish on the scale. I'm happy with my purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars Frances Z
Overall I like the look and performance of the scale. The bowl is large and it easy to read all measured weights. The only complaint is the cheesy plastic-plexi-glass face and the stainless steel constuction is somewhat light weight. I would pay more for a heavier construction. The scale is made in China.

4-0 out of 5 stars LOOKS COOL TOO!
I strongree support this kitchen scale, because it looks very classic, but actually new and really accurate. If you like antiques but don't like ugly stains, just like me, you won't find anything better than this one! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

To achieve gourmet results in the kitchen, a recipe often requires precise ingredient measurements down to the very last grain of salt. In such cases, at home or on the road, Polder’s pocketsize digital scale is the perfect tool.

The petite device features a removable tray that holds ingredients and doubles as a lid for compact storage or travel. The scale displays both metric and imperial systems, weighing articles up to 500 grams or 1 pound respectively, and monitors weights in 0.1-gram or .005-ounce increments. An add-and-weigh function allows chefs to combine different ingredients for one comprehensive weight--ideal for mixing spices such as cardamom and cumin to create garam masala for an Indian recipe. Powered by included, long-life lithium batteries, the scale automatically shuts off when idle for an extended time period. Polder offers a one-year warranty for defective parts or craftsmanship. 5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I am looking for...
This is a great buy. I was so sick of my wood clothes rack and this crome one is great. I bought two of them and they are very sturdy. Also they are a great price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great item and price--needs better shipping container
These are wonderful clothes racks. The other two reviews sold me before I received them. I bought two. They are well-made, and as study as this type of product can be. No splinters to catch on your clothes like the wooden variety. They sparkle. ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality bargain-priced!
Can a $20 drying rack be any good? Absolutely! After my wife's rack finally fell apart (after 20 years of service), I tried to find a good quality replacement. After failing to find anything halfway decent at the popular bath stores, I ultimately found this rack. The Polder name sold it for me since I know that their products are well designed. I was not disappointed. Very well put together, thick plastic feet, nicely chromed steel, lightweight, compact when folded, and easy to operate. My wife was thrilled when she saw it! What could be better?

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible price for an excellent item!
If you are in the market for a folding clothes dryer look no further. This Polder dryer is real chrome, not cheap plating, folds into 3"wide and is sturdy enough to hold a whole load of laundry. Similar models list for $$$ to $$$ and they offer nothing more for the higher price. If you need more space just buy 2: still cheaper than 1 of the others! I looked for months to find a replacement for my old dryer, which I had purchased for $$$ in 1984 at Sears and which, finally, would no longer stand without assistance. Imagine my horror to find these dryers now retailing for up to $$$ !!! I feared that this Polder dryer would be cheap or flimsy since the price was so reasonable. Not so! It could not be better. Seriously, it is PERFECT! Great item; great price. If you need a folding dryer, this is the real-deal FOR a real-deal! ... Read more

Versatility is the watchword with the Polder dual sensor thermometer and timer, which measures both the internal temperature of your food and the temperature of your oven at the same time. With its stacked temperature displays and 10-hour timer ( nine hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds, technically), the Polder thermometer is both functional and efficient. Its temperature readings range from 32 to 572 degrees F, though the temperature ranges for the pre-settable timer run from 85 to 572 degrees F (which is fine, as you'll rarely have to cook something at a temperature below 85 degrees). The timer is versatile, too, with count-down, count-up, and overtime count-up features. The thermometer even comes with a USDA cooking chart, with recommended temperatures and times for a variety of foods. --Rivers Janssen ... Read more

The 8-inch-long curved probe inserts into even the largest roast, while the 39-inch wire is long enough to reach from the cooking food to the sensor unit. The probe stays in the meat during cooking, and the oven door closes over the wire. Not to be used for taking the oven temperature, the probe is suitable for measuring cooking temperatures up to 392 degrees F (200 degrees C). 4-0 out of 5 stars Should work with most digital thermometers
I ordered 2 of these as spares for the two digital thermometers I currently own.

All of these inexpensive thermometers - Polder, Taylor and Timex - utilize the same core circuitry and the probes are sourced from the same manufacturer.

One of my thermometers (Timex) is a thrift-shop rescue which had no probe. It works fine with the probe from my Taylor.

Time will tell how durable the probes will be but since I have gotten mine, they have been used in cooking a ham and chicken and seem to be in good working order.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unacceptable product
I just received this replacement probe and calibrated it immediately. In a pan of water at a rolling boil the new probe with an old (2 years) Polder thermometer / Timer at steady state registered 180 degrees F. An instant-read thermometer read 212 degrees. A new Polder dual-sensor thermo-timer (6 months from Amazon) read 239 degrees. Both digital thermometers replicated their readings with brand new AAA batteries as well. Maybe the trick is use both thermometers and take an average. Don't waste your money on either Polder product. Their accuracy does not warrent the risk of ruining a good roast.

1-0 out of 5 stars I should have read this first
Someone bought the thermometer for me at Christmas time right off from my wish list. I decided on it from watching "Good Eats". I've noticed Alton doesn't use these anymore, either. I wish I would have seen the reviews here first. I used it four times before the probe went haywire. Does anyone else wonder why a THERMOMETER is not supposed to be exposed to a temperature higher than 400 degrees? Or why they even sell replacement probes? I've never seen replacement motors for my stand mixer, or replacement blades for my Wusthof.

5-0 out of 5 stars yes they fail eventually
The Polder timer/thermometer is a wonderfull kitchen tool

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST customer service I have found!
This is a GREAT product. I love that I can have a timer go off at precisely the time that my food reaches a certain temperature. What an amazing convenience.

I had a probe issue, like almost everyone else. I contacted Polder and recieved BOTH an email AND a phone call response within 30 minutes. I have never ever had such incredible response from any company. And it is less than 48 hours until Thanksgiving holiday.

They took care of my problem immediately, and gave me really good tips on caring for the probe. ALL probes have similar limitations regardless of the brand you purchase.

...Polder is heads and shoulders above,... any company that I have dealt with. They have such a rare (unfortunately, these days) concern for the hapiness of thier customers.

I can't recommend this product enough, and the company that most definitly stands behind it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best customer service I have found yet.
Okay so I wish that I could take back my other review. I was not happy with my probe going out. I recieved BOTH an email and a PHONE CALL within 30 minutes of my complaint. The representatives were not only VERY nice, but gave me some tips as to how to work with the probe properly to get the best use.

ALL of these timer brands have the same occasional problems, and any brand's probe has limitations. I have seen some people post here that they did not get a response from Pyrex when they had a problem. Well, Polder blows them out of the water in that regard.

It is great product. I do love that I can have a timer go off when my food gets to a specific temperature. It really frees me up to watch ALL my food, not just babysit my turkey while the other dishes over or under cook.

I really am happy, thank you to Polder customer service. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars one great step stool
This is a great stool that I can storein the cabinet under my sink as it only takes up several inches when folded. This makes it very accessible. It unfolds and very easily. It is the perfect height for reaching items in the upper shelves of my newly remodeled kitchen.I love it.GJS in Wisconsin

3-0 out of 5 stars Me buy. Me not sure if like.
Me no like dark. Me need to be higher. Me buy this. Me big person. Me exceed 225 pound limit. Me not know this when buy. Steps hard flexible plastic. Steps kind of bend when use. Me have light. Stool work. Solid so far. Just give average cause not sure. If you weigh less than 225 pounds probably good buy. Me use several times now. Still not understand how folds. Get feeling like maybe stick hand in metal animal trap. Not happen yet but not make feel happy. Still probably good if less or around 225 pounds. Me really not around this weight. This made in France.

5-0 out of 5 stars Compact yet sturdy...
I received this step stool as a gift, and use it almost every day.Folding up into any small space, it expands to be quite sturdy and sizeable. The step stool features a locking mechanism as well as rubberized feet and steps for safety, and the carrying handle makes maneuvering the stool into small storage spaces quite easy.Highly recommended for reaching and working in areas a foot or so out of reach.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gotta-have-one item at the right price!
For some time, I've longed to have a step stool or stepladder that I could use for those pesky tasks that inevitably arise: washing the highest part of the walls, reaching the top cabinets in the kitchen, etc.Every time I looked at ones in the store, though, they were overpriced or so cheaply made that they looked as if they would break if my cat climbed on them! This step stool, however, had the right price and looked suitable. And I was delighted when I received it: small enough to tote around but functional enough to do the job. I only wish that I'd bought it sooner! ... Read more

Keep flour, oats, coffee grinds, sugar, and other essential kitchen staples fresh in these attractive canisters from Polder. The three-piece set includes 2-, 3-, and 4-quart canisters with a sleek, durable, stainless steel design that complements any kitchen décor.

Oval-shaped, acrylic windows allow cooks to identify contents and assess supply levels at a glance. Lids screw on tightly, keeping dust, liquid, germs, and household pests out while maintaining food quality. An airtight seal also keeps aromas--like the rich scent of coffee beans--contained.

The set is dishwasher-safe--though hand drying and stainless-steel polish will help eradicate water spots while preserving shine. The 2-quart canister stands 6-1/2 inches high with a 5-inch diameter, the 3-quart is 8 inches high with a 5-3/4-inch diameter, and the 4-quart reaches 9-1/4 inches high with a 6-inch diameter. --Jessica Reuling
