4-0 out of 5 stars It's just a fan
I don't know, maybe it's just me, but the other reviews on this item made it sound like this fan was some miraculous new advance in electric fan technology. I bought it, and I'm satisfied with my purchase, but so far it hasn't radically changed my life and I'm not in any hurry to tell all my friends to go out and buy 10 of them. It's a fan. You turn it on, it blows air. It doesn't seem to blow air any further than any other fan I've had. It works fine in my average-sized bedroom. It is pretty quiet and is small, two features I like. I think I'd like it a little more if it had the ability to oscillate back and forth.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Power in a Small Package
You cannot find a more powerfull fan in such a small package. It has stepless speed control. At the highest speed it blasts as much air as a massive box fan on high except it does it in a higher velocity compact stream of air. It is amazing how this stream stays together over a long distance without much divergance. This meant I could use it to channel air directly into my bedroom 25 feet and two rooms away from my single window unit airconditioner. It is somewhat noisy at its highest speed because of that massive volume of air being moved. At its lowest speed it gives a nice breeze and is very quiet.

5-0 out of 5 stars All Hail the Tiny Tornado!
This little "air circulator" is to fans what the Bose Wave Radio is to stereo systems: you simply can't believe the amount of output coming from such a compact source. It seems to transcend physical reality. As a drummer in a doo wop band, I have used one of these "Tiny Tornados" onstage for a number of years now, and nothing else comes close when it comes to blowing a strong, quiet stream of air to keep me cool. Other musicians interested in using the fan for this purpose will be pleased to hear that the little Vornado has NEVER given off any hum or unwanted electrical noises that showed up in a sound system, despite the constant suspicions of band members and sound technicians alike. I don't know what to make of the one other customer who was disappointed by this fan, unless he accidentally bought an inferior copycat version -- there are some around -- made by another company. Simply the best little fan in the world!

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a keeper, but just one caveat...
I bought this fan because I wanted something to run during the night at low speed that would not make the noise my hardy old box fan does.

And it is perfect for that purpose, creating just the right breeze that will keep you cool, without disturbing.

So I agree with everything else that has been written about this.

I will just say that there is one thing this little guy cannot do, which is draw in cool air from outside when you place it at the window. Nothing beats your $10 box fan in that.

WIth one of each, you're just about covered...

5-0 out of 5 stars Fan-myster! Faboulous
I will never forget the summer of 1986, wife pregnant and the central air zonked out. I ran to the nearest large store to grab a fan and actually i was going to grab any fan. I was walking down the fan isle when i noticed 3 to 4 people grouped in front of this small looking yet powerful fan. They were laughing and feeling good. It obviously made everyone cooler. I noted the blades were quite different allowing them to circulate air at a awsome speed. The output shocked and amazed me. I got lucky and grabbed the last one and headed home. Please dont take my word for it just go see a demo. Mine is still working great to this day.My son Peter enjoys it as much as we do! This fan is a winner in all ways. Thanks for listening to Bill ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Mighty Wind!
...This little fan lives up to it's reputation. My husband is one of those types who has to have a fan circulating air all year long in our stuffy bedroom - (even in the winter & we live in Wisconsin!) & the Vornado 610W does the job beautifully. The lowest setting is quiet and comfortable on all but the hottest of eves, when the medium speed, coupled with our air conditioner, works just fine. The best part is that you don't have to have it blowing right on you to feel the effects -- the air in the whole room circulates very efficiently. Well worth the money & if you are short on space, this unit fits just about anywhere - floor, table, or window ledge.

5-0 out of 5 stars ACTUALLY DOES WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO!
We have a 65 year-old home with poor circulation in the 2 upstairs bedrooms; they're always 5 degrees warmer in the summer and 5 degrees colder in the winter than the rest of the house. A heating and cooling company was going to charge almost $1,000 to put booster fans in the ductwork. Out of desperation (and I'm a cheapskate also) I bought 2 of these 610W Vornados, and placed them over the floor ducts, and Viola', it fixed the problem (3 degrees better, anyways).
My Mom has had the 500 series fan for about 10 years, but it doesn't circulate nearly as much air, and the bearings don't have a lifetime guarantee like the 610W, and, sure enough, they finally failed this past summer... So the 610W is well worth the extra $15 or $20 bucks to get better airflow and lifetime bearings.
Our rooms are 12' x 12', and this fan does a great job; I suspect that, if you have a larger room, the 750 series would do a better job than this one.
Another side benefit of the 610W is just enough background hum with the fan running (24/7 in our home)to block out the constant traffic noise from the major highway we live off of: the kids sleep much better now. This is truly a great product!

5-0 out of 5 stars Small & Powerful
I love this light weight, powerful little fan! The first time I turned it on, I had my face square in front of it and it literally took my breath away! It does a fantastic job of circulating the air and cooling the room(s). I also like the fact that it is light weight enough to easily move and small enough to fit just about anywhere. Very definitely a good buy!

4-0 out of 5 stars Keeps me cool
Its pricy yes, but it keeps me cool whenever I need to be cool. And I am not a small guy either. It will keep you cool, its quiet, and doesn't get overheated (if you touch a box fan in the back you will burn your hand...if you don't believe me...try it). I used it in college and now I am using it at home and it provided great circulation in both places. How versatile! Great fan but didn't give it a five because of the price but if you don't mind the price, a must buy!

2-0 out of 5 stars Fan - low air flow for the high cost
I am using this fan for about a month. True it is quite, tilt-able and small but it also lacks the ability to create a strong airflow for the high cost. I bought this fan when my 5yr old box fan, cost about $15, stopped running. The box fan created at least 2x the airflow for much less cost. The reviews give an impression that this fan produces a strong airflow - not in my estimation. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Impressed
I just received this Vornado Fan and although UPS mangled the box, the fan itself is great. I was highly impressed by the quality and the air output of this fan. For it's size it will really amaze you. The continuously variable speed is great!!!. It's not like a regular fan that has 1. 2. 3 settings you can adjust it to any output. It's whisper quiet at its lower setting but relatively loud at it's highest. The noise doesn't come from the motor but from the deep scoops of the fan blades themselves....it maybe a little loud at the higher setting but for the amount of air that it can push, highly worth it!!! The Grill and fan blade comes off easily for cleaning and Vornado offers a 5 year warranty on this model. I would recommend it to anyone

5-0 out of 5 stars The Little Black Fan That Could!
I call my new Vornado 'The Little Black Fan That Could'. It's saved my life! Or at least my productivity. I plunk it down near a window and it blows fresh, cool air inside whenever it gets hot up here. My little black fan chugs on and on and on, all day and night long if I want it to with nary a complaint, which might make it even better than a boyfriend ;) It packs a mean punch, a lot more than my big, loud, cumbersome oscillating fan. I also really love the variable slide-speed thingy, which lets me decide exactly how much cool air I want. And if I move into another room, the Vornado comes with me without any lugging a big fan around.

If you are having problems with heat or air circulation, get this fan. I mean it. It looks expensive, but it's the best fan you'll ever own.

5-0 out of 5 stars FAN-tastic Buy!
This fan is mighty powerful and the best thing about it is the fact that it's very quiet. Of all the fans I've tried this size, this is the quietest. Especially on low....you'll hardly hear it running. Great for moving a little extra air conditioning into another room. Well made. Durable. Sturdy. For the few extra dollars for a fan this size, it's adds up to a great value.

5-0 out of 5 stars Vornado rocks!
It arrived today. It's June in Atlanta and I've been searching for a fan to help cool my home office. I didn't want to go to the expense of installing a ceiling fan, and felt sure that an inexpense floor or table fan would suffice. Unfortunately, I initially went to my local Target store. First I bought a 17-inch tilt-up floor fan made by Honeywell. I soon discovered that the on/off switch was cheap and that the lowest setting was enough to fly a kite in here. I took it back. My next choice was an oscillating fan on a floor stand. Cheap, cheap, cheap workmanship-- plus, you had to assemble it. The motor was metal and seemed durable enough, but once mounted, it sagged sadly toward the floor-- the plastic apparatus and stand, too weak to support it. I took it back. Ok, I told myself. Don't be in such a hurry. Go to Amazon and do some research. Vornado fans were generally given high ratings. Mine arrived and I am elated. It is just the size I need, is sturdy, the fan-speed settings are unlimited, it runs quietly, and puts out a wonderful breeze. Vornado fans have many fans (and visa versa). Now I am one of them!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great air-mover, quiet (relatively) and in a compact frame.
4.5 stars, actually.

This fan is great. It's really small, so it can be placed in a window frame or almost any where you need air to be moved from, and doesn't obstruct like a larger, yet less-powerful fan would.

It's really powerful. It really does shoot a tight beam of air, and in turn circulates air around an entire room. This is especially helpful, in say, small, un-air conditioned dorm rooms at colleges too cheap to install AC. This fan is also very good at moving cool air from one room to another. My room at home, also, ironically, does not have AC. The family room down the hall does. So I just place this baby in the hall aimed into my room, and the lovely cold air is pulled in from the family room and shot into mine, and my room is now AC'd, somewhat.

The variable speed control is very nice, letting you control exactly how much air you want moved. The lowest speed is almost silent, but is meant more for just personal cooling, while the fastest speed is rather noisy (but nothing unbearable, it's not bad at all), it IS moving quite a large volume of air, and good for whole-room air circulation/cooling.

I would give this gem a 5, but the frame is just a bit mal-aligned. It can get bent just slightly which causes the blades to smack against the plastic frame, and while this is easily correctable, it is annoying. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fan! What's not to like?
I own a couple Vornados and am definitely addicted. So when I saw color from the ususaly B&W folks at Vornado I had to buy. This thing looks neat and it arrived in fine condition. The padded handle, the fat pipe base, the long grounded cord and a place to store the extra. I like it and I like that it's made in the US and has a lifetime warranty. Way to go Vornado!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not all it's cracked up to be
I have always been impressed with Vornado products. Therefore, I was lured into purchasing this fan when it arrived in my "Gold Box" as a special purchase. However -- as the saying goes -- all that glitters is not gold. My Vornado fan arrived broken: The front protective grill is made out of cheap plastic, and due to one of the plastic clips being broken, the front grill will not stay in place. It literally falls off.

Despite that, I still tried to use the fan. The fan produces a "stream" (tunnel) of air into one location, and does not cool a wide area.

If you want a fan that will only direct air into one spot, this fan might be fine. But if you want over-all all-room cooling, this is not a good choice. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Vornado is the only brand I'll ever buy!
I wanted to comment on some of the reviews that mention that this fan is not "whisper quiet" as described by Vornado. The actual description states that the motor is whisper quiet and it is. The only "noise" from this unit is from the huge amount of air that is being pulled through it and "vortexed" across the room when set on the higher speeds. The motor itself makes virtually no noise as described and when set to lower speeds, this fan is very quiet.

I'm sure you can tell by most of the reviews here that this fan is simnply the best you can buy for the price. I also have the smaller, compact version in my bedroom and it's been running strong a couple hours a day for over 8 years. If you've never had a Vornado fan before, try one and I promise you'll never go back to "flat blades" again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quiet and efficient
This is a quality product (and you pay for it) that works really well. I bought one for myself a few years ago, and I use it in my home office while on concalls. The variable control is much better than pre-sets installed on other fans. It's quiet and efficient. Plus, if you set the fan across the room, you can tune the air currents to your liking.

The fan does not vibrate at all, and it does not seem to run hot. I bought one as a gift last XMAS for someone who hates air conditioning. I was worried if she let a fan run all day and night it might set a fire. The fan runs quiet and cool. I felt so confident, that I bought the smaller version for the top of my toddler's dresser to help mix the air a bit.

The peace of mind is worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this thing!
I bought this item at a local warehouse club for a great price. I've been using it for just over a week and it is by far the most effective fan I've ever had. Right now, I also have a huge box fan and 3 regular ol' oscillating fans, and none of these moves air like the Vornado. We have a 50's house with no AC (save the rooms that have window units), and it gets nearly unbearable in the summer, especially upstairs. Last week, with a few days in the 90's, I used the Vornado in front of an open window to try and bring in the cooler night air. It circulated the air so well that I ended up sleeping under my down comforter. So I've got to give this fan 5 stars for helping me sleep sweat-free at night.

No, it's not whisper quiet, but realistically, noise is inevitable from a motor that's moving a large volume of air efficiently. My box fan sounds like it's getting ready for lift-off on even the lowest setting, and it doesn't work half as well as my wonderful new Vornado. However if silence, rather than air circulation, is the priority, this is not the fan to consider.

5-0 out of 5 stars super fan!!!!!!
My life long love affair with fans go way back. I suffered with insomnia in my teens and learnt I would sleep when a fan was blowing on me. I run a fan year round (thought I was the only one, but find there are others out there!). My sinuses do not close up, and the white noise makes me sleep so peaceful. However, I need a "softer" fan for my work area. One that give plenty of air current, but since I am writing with papers about me and books, I needed one that was not a hurricane. This one is a pleasing quiet fan, good are current, but can be near silent. In Summer it makes any room cooler, in winter makes the room warmer. I am very pleased with this fan and its excellent warranty.

5-0 out of 5 stars Suggestion from a NJ Teacher
If you are a teacher working in a classroom that is not airconditioned, I highly recommend the Vornado 750B air circulator. I've put it on top of a filing cabinet in one corner and faced it at the opposite (farthest) corner above the heads of my high school students. No arguments about who is getting the most benefit from the fan because we can all feel the air moving around the room. We use it all year round, not just when it's warm. Even at its highest setting you can still be heard in the back of the classroom. It's sturdy and easy to wipe clean of the everpresent chalk dust. I also have a 610 in my bedroom at home to lower the costs of air conditioning. I recommend Vornado to anyone I hear complaining about energy bills or the comfort level of their home or workplace. No one has been disappointed. ... Read more

Created by Vornado for average to large rooms, this whole-room air circulator packs a lot of wind into a small machine. Taking up less than a square foot of floor space and standing 14 inches high, the unit features three circulation speeds and a 90-degree manual rotation, so you can circulate air across the room or from floor to ceiling. The design helps with distributing heat from hot air registers or drawing cool night air into the house. Its versatility enables you to use it year-round, saving energy that would normally go to the furnace or air conditioner. Designed for floor positioning, the circulator is fairly quiet in use, especially considering that most needs will be met by the first two speeds. Sturdy but light, it is easy to lift, carry, rotate, and direct. Vornado also makes similar models with varying power capabilities.--Emily Bedard ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A very powerful fan - ideal size for windows, hallways, etc.
I can't say enough good things about Vornado fans.

I recently got a couple of these reconditioned 610B fans to put in windows or hallways. I've had a 510W Vornado for years, and recently borrowed a friend's 750B to try it out, too. The 610B is the ideal size to put in a window. I could go a lot longer into summer this year before turning on my air conditioner by using two of them to pull cooler air in from outside day and night. When it gets so hot I still need to close the windows and turn on the window air conditioner, they're great for circulating the air more evenly around the room, shooting it down a hall to a room without air conditioning (on high), or aiming it directly at me (low or medium) in a room without AC (or so I can keep the AC turned lower).

I don't notice as much difference between the 510 and the 610 in power. Not a huge difference in size, either. The 750 is the real leap up in both size and power (see my longer review for 510W, or review of 750B, if you want to hear more about other Vornado fans).

All three sizes can move air at least ten feet - the difference is how much air and how far (and how high you have to turn them up to create the same breeze). The 500-series is great for a "personal" fan aimed at only one or two people, or to move air around a small room. 610B moves air in a wider swath. 750B moves air in the widest path of all - ideal to make everyone sitting on a couch or at a table feel cooler at the same time.

The 610W makes more noticeable noise than 510W even on low, but it's still pretty quiet. And since 610B on low may move as much air as the 510W on medium, in some sense it's "quieter" to get the same effect. (same is true of next step up - 750B on low will create as much breeze as 510W on high 10 feet away, making less noise in the process). All the Vornado fans make quite a bit more noise on high setting.

After seeing (feeling) how amazing Vornado fans are, various friends and family decided to buy several each of the 610B, 750B, and the 510W or 550G.

4-0 out of 5 stars This fan packs alot of power!
Considering the size and portability of this fan, it provides a lot of wind and power. This fan can be placed in two positions-- either horizontal or vertical--for your comfort. I highly recommend this fan, if you can get past the noise. (It can get pretty loud at the higher speeds.) ... Read more

Quiet, stylish, and built of durable plastic, this big device circulates air throughout the largest rooms at home or at the office. Use it alone or with an air conditioner to cool in the summer and to circulate heat evenly throughout a room in winter. Its powerful 233-watt motor combines with a deep-pitch propeller and a cunning grill design to move air in a tight beam up to 75 feet. For moving air up or down a stairwell or circulating air from floor to ceiling, the head pivots from an angle slightly below horizontal to straight up. It has an infinitely variable speed control, from low through high, and a switch that permits the circulator to maintain a room's desired temperature by turning off and on as the temperature changes. The circulator stands 16 inches high and has a 15-1/2-inch-diameter head. --Fred Brack

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Buy
I own this Vornado Air Circulator, and it is the best fan I have ever had. I have it in my bedroom, and it is great to have it on high and feel the air circulating around as you sleep. It's gotten so that I can't sleep without it on. Its a quiet, reliable fan that will serve you well. Extremely powerful, too. Don't underestimate it's size, its a great buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Had this fan for about a week
and I am very impressed...it has a good hum to it but the noise is nice while sleeping. On high, this thing flaps the covers on the bed. I love lots of air on me when I sleep and I can't keep it on high..too strong. Great fan for any room. Pleased so far.

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful little fan
I have this in my office at work and it provides complete circulation for a small room about 10' x 10'. I have never had it on full speed, except by mistake, as it would blow every paper off the wall and off any surface. It is quiet and reliable. I would buy another one for any space where I need circulation, without hesitation. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Quite High Power
My entire family has these fans. They are so quite and move a lot of air. I've never had one break, even after being dropped. Don't miss the oscillating feature b/c it compensates by moving a lot of air long distance. Worth the cost.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great fan!
I just received this fan not too long ago. I bought it as a gold box offer and I am so glad I did! Our apartment is on the top floor and has a skylight which gets all of the afternoon sun and gets incredibly hot. It works great to circulate the cool air from my living room where the a/c is to the bedroom, where it is not. It is super quiet and compact and very powerful! A great product!

5-0 out of 5 stars Super Fan! Almost as good as Air Conditioning!
I was told about Vornado a few years ago. I didn't want to go and spend any money on new fans, so kept my old clunkers. Three of my fans quit this year and I purchased a Vornado Compact Fan. I am very happy I did and should have bought this ions ago. Variable speeds, good looking, and the best of all QUIET! You can sleep with no noise problem. I plan on buying 2 large ones in the spring for our thrift shop and get rid of the old noise makers who are all talk, and no action!

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't get a cheap Vornado knockoff
Used a Honeywell for a few years until we couldn't stand the noise any more. It was as loud on the lowest setting as the Vornado is on its highest setting. The Vornado has a light hum at its lowest setting that is barely audible. The Vornado also moves a lot more air at it's medium setting. The Vornado front grill is also removable for cleaning whereas the Honeywell is not.

First one arrived damaged (fan blade rubbed against side of grill), but Amazon 2nd day'd a replacement. Great service, Amazon!

5-0 out of 5 stars Continuous speed control
Good continuous-action speed control (not 1-2-3 speed like most small fans or the Vornado 510). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars strong and quiet
I own three Vornado fans, and I'm trying to buy a fourth one. Two of the fans I own are the small Vornados. They are great for creating a cooling breeze or circulating the air within a room, but if you want to transfer substantial air volume from one room to another, get the large size. I own a 710G, and I intend to buy another one. The 710G ("G" means gray-colored)is part of the 700 series, which is the largest size. The 710 is fairly compact. It can be pointed at any angle. It is a no-frills unit with three speeds and just what I like. It is amazingly quiet for all the air it moves. It's the best fan I know of.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great FAN
needed a fan for my dorm room and this thing didnt cost much and worked awesome. my room is no longer stuffy and dry...this thing totally makes the air circulate and its pretty quiet at doing it. It also looks really cool and when people see it there always impressed! Spend (...) bucs on a quality product and you be so happy you did..trust me I did the cheap route with fans before (...)!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fan!
This moves a lot of air, and cuts down on my using the air conditioners, which is a great thing and saves money. I should have bought 2 more.

4-0 out of 5 stars Vornado 710 G
The Vornado has worked great. It has reduced my electricity bill by about $20! I have a 3 story townhome and use the fan to circulate cool air from the first floor to the second floor where we spend most of our time. The manufacturing and assembly of this fan is unequaled. Its three speed fan is perfect for any condition and the patented Vornado air flow really works. Coupled with the fan's lifetime warranty against defects, this is a great fan and well worth the price. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST!
We have had our Vornado for over 15 years and LOVE it! It never makes too much noise, always gives the proper amount of air circulation in the room and it has performed flawlessly.

Our daughter just moved out, and one of the first presents I gave her was her very own Vornado. She loves it!

Get one today, you will NOT regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars amazingly quiet, durable, and forceful
We bought two of these fans two years ago and absolutely love them. We run them every night and they are perfect. Cleaning is easy by removing the grill and simply wiping blades. The air force is powerful and you can aim it to an exact spot due to the vortex airflow it creates. With the adjustable dial models, you can actually have it on low which keeps air flow moving but it is absolutely silent! In short, we love these fans and would recommend them to everyone. We like them so much that we have since bought - and equally love - the Vornado humidifier.

5-0 out of 5 stars 15 years and still like new !
I purchased this model in 1988, and it has run flawlessly since. Like any fan you have to pull off the grill and clean the blades (we have hardwood floors, so "bunnies" do go through the fan) and than it is restored to new. It's been running EVERY NIGHT - seven days a week for 15 YEARS ! We even take it to the beach every Summer. I can't sleep without hearing that familar hum. And the air flow through the room has no equal. Worth every penny. And as good as any ceiling fan and it's mobile. I even paid $ 40. more for it back than, so it's definitely a bargin. I really can't say enough about it.

5-0 out of 5 stars FANtastic
Bought a 1950's Vornado at a garage sale 40 years ago. It's still working. Have a 5 year old Vornado in my bedroom. Just bought this one for my newly remodeled living room. Have room AC units in the living room and large upstairs bedroom, but none in small upstairs bedroom. Put a Vornado at the bottom of the stairs, and in the doorway of the large bedroom, and the small bedroom gets, and stays cool. If you have a small area to ventilate, you might get a way with something smaller and less (...) (I recommend you look for a smaller, less (...) Vornado). But, if you need to move some air, there simply is no better fan.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Tool For Anyone With A Open-Concept Floorplan!
Living on the side of a mountain in rural New Hampshire usually means we don't have to resort to cooling the house during the summer, because we have a prevailing breeze on all but the hottest days. Yet we do sometimes have a problem during the evening, when the wind dies down and the air is still. It is then that we resort to using some device for recircultaing all that air and keeping the place comfortable.

That much and more can be said about this fan. It seems to effortlessly and efficently move air all over the house, such that nothing else is required. Within minurtes of employing it, the house is cooling down, and one can watch the dogs relax as the breeze helps them to cool down, too. Since I usually watch the evening news to compare it with the coverage I get from NPR on the long drive home, it helps that the fan is quiet and doesn't create the kind of airplane-level roar associated with most window fans.

We actually have two, for I now have one at a small cabin we are building, and it works well there, too, although not as often, since it is so far north. But for the relatively modest price of this item, you can effectively cool a very large area in a relatively short period of time. I highly recommend it. Enjoy! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Effective but loud
This circulator will push a LOT of air through a room. I live in a townhouse with a loft, and I can feel the air circulating downstairs when the circulator is upstairs.
The automatic control is very nice, it will attempt to maintain the present temperature around the fan by speeding up or slowing down.
The only negative thing to me is that it is LOUD. Very loud. Anything over half power vibrates the floors.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product - However !!!!!
Bought our first Vornado circulator in 1989 and still use it today with no problem. Just purchased the 770 and it works great except for one flaw. The blade doesn't seemed to be balanced super perfect and the fan can start to oscillate when on a hard surface. Vornado supplies O-Rings to slide over the base to avoid this type of behavior. I will return this unit and try another to see if the quality is any better. Our 12 year old unit is solid as a rock and balanced well. WiIl give Vornado another try and generate a report. Other than that, the fan is quiet and works great. Thanks !!!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good fan - a bit pricey
This fan, or 'air circulator' as the company prefers, works well, is constructed solidly, and has some interesting features. Like most other Vornado's, the 770AVS is designed to circulate air around a room, much like a ceiling fan, rather than blow directly at you.

The Automatic Variable Speed feature is what makes this model unique: it has some sort of built-in thermostat and adjusts the fan speed as the temperature changes. The AVS operates within a set range and does a pretty good job of speeding up when it's hot and slowing when the room cools down. This is a particularly nice feature if you're the type who gets cold during the night and hates to get up to turn the fan off (like me).

The only gripe I can think of about the 770AVS is its price: .... However, this Vornado is a quality product and is certainly a better investment in the long run. ... Read more
