For a century and a half, since a woman in New York invented the hand-crank freezer, making ice cream has been an American family value. Mom blended the ice cream mixture; Dad filled the maker's wooden tub with ice and rock salt to achieve the below-freezing temperature needed to produce smooth confections; kids clamored to turn the crank; and everyone happily consumed big bowls of ice cream as a reward. This family-bonding activity remains as vibrant today as it was through a century-and-a-half of "progress." With various ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sherbet recipes included, this old-fashioned White Mountain ice cream maker maintains the tradition. Only the use of modern stainless steel for the freezer can and dasher and the electric motor distinguish this rugged maker from the one earlier generations enjoyed. 5-0 out of 5 stars White Mountain is the Best
Twenty years ago when we got married we received a White Mountain Ice Cream Freezer as a gift. It was so different than any other ice cream freezer we had ever had. The ice cream turns out so smooth and the leftovers stay so smooth and good in the freezer, not turning hard like so many other ice cream freezers we had used. We have never had a problem with it at all, until a month or so ago our daughter dropped the motor on the ground and it broke--so we decided to purchase a new ice cream freezer. We would not purchase any other than the White Mountain. We have made many different flavors--the freezer works great with fruit and nuts, choc. chips,-anything. From the time our kids were little and still today as they are teenagers and beginning to leave home--we all look forward to the special days when we gather around and make homemade ice cream. It has become a tradition in our family. This is a great machine!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Homemade Ice Cream Family
I come from a family where homemade ice cream is a ritual and a tradition. Nearly every family gathering (4 or more per year) involves the making of homemade ice cream. People have three servings. And then a few hours later, a few more. Its quite amazing. The quantity made and consumed is large.

Most families within the larger extended family have their own ice cream maker. And all of them own and swear by these White Mountain Electric models. They have owned and used them for many years, having previously burned out many other brands before finding this brand that just keeps going forever. They even own multiple ice cream barrels so they can make multiple flavors using one bucket/motor set. (a good idea actually)

Now that I have my own home, I need an ice cream maker of my own and this will be the model. After all, I would be teased, mocked, and generally looked down upon if I bought anything else. Because the experts (my relatives) know that this is the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality bar none
I'm a novice to Ice Cream making. My family and I did own and operate a Baskin Robbins for about 6 years and I got to visit the dairy where they made the Baskin Robbins Ice Cream. For my money, even though this was an expensive purchase, the White Mountain ice cream maker provides the closest reality to taste and texture that commerical ice creameries produce, given the right recipes. The quality of the paddles or solid and designed to last a VERY long time. True the machine is loud, it also works hard to mix any type of ice cream wanted and does it very, very well. We've made about 20 batches so far and with the exception of 2 of them they all turned out perfect. The 2 that were bad, were pilot error. We also invested in the Ben-n-Jerry recipe book, which I also recommend. It covers everything from Vanilla Bean (yummy) to Cherry Garcia (double yum). For the money you'll end up buying 2-3 of those [inexpensive] ice cream makers and wear them out in no time. We have a large family for get togethers so we use the full 6 quarts, but it will do smaller batches for just 2-3 people with no problem. It cleans up easily with the cylinder being Stainless Steel and the wood paddles add a sense of realizime I love, plus it doesn't taint the ice cream, just like the pro's. A+ to White Mountain.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful quality product
This is truly a top of the line item. We have made several recipes and each have turned out perfectly. The ice cream is smooth and silky. The motor is loud so it's best to make your ice cream early and then pack the freezer for later consumption, that way the noise doesn't interfere with conversation.

2-0 out of 5 stars Metal Contaminated Ice Cream
Yes, it makes ice cream but you can't eat it.

Inside the container where the mixture is poured, there is a beater which stirs it as it freezes. The sides of this beater are thin wooden slats connected onto the cast metal beater by a few, cheap metal screws. These screws get wiggled back and forth while the container spins around in the ice. When it finished I was scooping out the ice cream and I found black streaks in it. You had to look closely but they were there. I don't like the idea of aluminum.

This was a very cheap and not well thought out way of connecting the wood to the metal. Poor workmanship. Not recommended. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product!!
I would nicely like to disagree with the review above. We have two ice cream makers and if you take care of them properly they will last forever. We have had one for over 15 years and the bucket is still good. All that need to be done is for the bucket to be washed out after use. I recommend this great product!

3-0 out of 5 stars So so
Got one of these ice cream churns a long time ago, and it was great... until the bucket fell apart. The bucket is wooden held together with bands that can corrode, so the salt you add to the ice ends up destroying the bucket in a few years. I haven't been able to find a replacement bucket, either. Makes great ice cream, though.

1-0 out of 5 stars High price, low quality
Don't let the high price on this ice cream freezer fool you into thinking you're getting something that's high quality. We ordered one in late November, anticipating lots of fun "cranking" together at family get-togethers over the holidays. The "trial run" in early December went fine. But the second time we got the freezer out of the box -- on Christmas evening -- we saw that metal filings had shifted out of the crank mechanism. Then, as we attempted to make just our second batch of ice cream, the crank handle broke. (The crank mechanism seems to be poorly made, which overly stresses the crank handle.) Not what we expected from a $159 ice cream freezer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Family Activity
I purchased this model for my husband's birthday recently and I have to say it was perfect! We have used it several times since then and everytime I have been amazed with the workmanship that has gone into creating this mixer. It is rare that you find things well built these days. Most companies cut corners by using cheap materials, but not White Mountain. The wood base is solidly constructed and the parts appear as if they will last for many years to come. I will say that if you are looking for a "quick fix" you will probably prefer to go with one of the electric models. If, on the other hand, you do prefer the nostalgia that goes along with this product and are willing to work for your treats then this will be perfect. If you ask me, I think our children today have lost sight of working for what you want and maybe this will be a small yet fun way of helping them learn that lesson! Okay, maybe I went a little far with that last comment, but it does make a little sense.

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't Expect The Same Quality as Grandpa's
The freezer works OK but the overall quality of the product appears to have slipped. The finish on the wood was poor and the lid for the stainless steel container does not fit tight enough. I do not expect this new White Mountain freezer to last as long as the one my Grandparent's purchased and used for 50+ years. For the money, I expected more.

3-0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun, but poorly made
If you are looking for an old fashioned hand crack ice cream maker that uses salt and ice - this is the only choice I have been able to find. Unfortunately, I was only able to make ice cream about 5 times before I noticed the gears were stripping. I then took a closer look at the hand crank system - and it is made very cheaply. Additionally, even though I have been diligent about rinsing out the bucket when I am done, it is still rusting on the inside. This is presumedly from the salt water needed to freeze the ice cream. Still, since I very much like hand cranking, I am now looking for a replacement piece for the hand crank system and hoping it will last more than a season.
The good news is that you can still buy an old fashioned ice cream maker. The bad news is that no one has come out with one that is made to last.
My suggestion is to look at garage sales for one built years ago - when they were built to last generations. If you don't find one, then this will do

4-0 out of 5 stars Nostalgia is as good as it used to be!
Bring back all the joys of a summer day on the farm with the White Mountain hand-cranked ice cream freezer. Who gets to crank? Who gets to sit on the old rug over the packed ice? And most important, who gets to lick the paddle? All these vital experiences come along with delicious home-made ice cream. ... Read more

Thanks to a clever design, the curved glass door and a slight bulge in the back allow this countertop toaster oven to hold a full 12-inch pizza. Stylishly rounded with a brushed stainless-steel top and handle, the oven is not one to be hidden away. In fact, it will need at least six inches of space around its large-capacity 19-1/2-by-14-1/2-by-10 inch frame to act as a heat buffer as it toasts, bakes, and broils a wide variety of foods.

Two knobs control the oven's temperature (up to 450 degrees F) and functions (keep warm, broil, bake, and toast), while a third sets the timer for up to 60 minutes. Versatile and using less power than a full-size oven, this one bakes chicken, potatoes, hamburgers, frozen food, and more, and toasts up to six slices of bread or six bagels. Included with the oven are: two oven racks; a 10-1/2-inch-square cookie sheet; a 10-by-12-by-1-inch baking/drip pan; a 12-inch round pizza pan with perforated bottom; and a 10-1/2-by-8-1/2-inch broiling pan which fits inside the baking pan. The nonstick interior finish makes wiping off splatters and spills easy, while a crumb tray slides out from underneath for emptying. This handsome brushed-chrome slow cooker is similar to Rival's 6445-BC 6-1/2-quart model. Added to this model for extra convenience is a warm setting for keeping a meal at just the right serving temperature. Oval in shape and holding a generous 6-1/2 quarts, the cooker suits a large family or a couple who likes to entertain. The heavy stoneware crock lifts out of the heating base for easy cleaning thanks to a stick-resistant coating, and is attractive enough to serve from right at the table. While the crock is safe for use in the microwave and dishwasher, it is not intended for use on a stovetop or under a broiler.

With two cook settings, low and high, the pot can slow cook a wide variety of stews, roasts, and soups, recipes for which are included in the owner's guide. The glass lid, also dishwasher-safe, sends moisture back into the pot while at the same time allows contents to be viewed. The loop-style lid knob and improved sure-grip handles are heat resistant. Measuring 17 by 8 by 12 inches with a 40-inch power cord, the slow cooker is covered by a one-year warranty. --Ann Bieri ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Ice Cream Lover!
I got this for my husband for Father's Day a few years ago. Since then, he has been THE DAD of the neighborhood. Anytime we get the ice cream maker out, it seems, all the neighbors gather too! ... a sign of some good ice cream to come! The recipes that come with the maker are excellent (and easy). The directions are easy to follow. As for the review that comments on "shoddy" materials, I must say, I do remember this being made much sturdier when I was a kid, but I haven't found any black flecks getting into the ice cream. I have some concerns that we'll have to replace some parts in the next several years (we've had it 4 years and use it several times a summer and have had no challenges yet). I know that salt is highly corrosive so I'll cut some slack there. Even knowing we'll have to replace parts at some point, I would recommend this product. We think the hand crank is FUN and the anticipation of the ice cream to come only adds to the enjoyment of the final product! Get out the bowls and spoons and get ready for some all around family fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars Exellent Ice-cream maker
Our family loves using this ice cream freezer during the summer. At every BBQ we make fresh fruit ice cream (the peach is to die for!) and the kids love to participate and help crank the ice cream. It is easy to use and the product is made of heavy duty materials, well worth the money....go for it! This is a family memory maker!

1-0 out of 5 stars Very shoddy design for the price.
If you just want an occasional nostalgia trip, or a rustic decoration for your kitchen, then buy this freezer. But if you are serious about making ice cream with it, you're in for a disappointment.

The part that covers the ice cream container is made of a cheap, soft metal alloy. Friction slowly wears it away as you crank it, getting black gunk on everything it touches. It even gets black specks in the ice cream - yuck!

5-0 out of 5 stars A True Old-Reliable
When I was a teenager my dad sold these freezers in his hardware store. This freezer makes great ice cream and with reasonable will last at 30 (that's right 30) years. Once in awhile we would order minor small parts for people who had inherited White Mountain freezers from their grandparents. If you don't mind crankin' and doing things a little more slowly, this is the freezer for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy And Delicious
I was a bit reluctant to purchase this ice cream maker. I had previously spent about fourty dollars on a cheaper model put out by another company. The ice cream came out lumpy, and often was difficult or noisy to make.

This model, however, was well worth the money. The ice cream was quick and easy to make. Easy enough, infact, that even kids can help out. This makes it a perfect summertime activity for those kids who seem to have tried everything. It's even easy to clean up one you finish. Best of all, it tastes delicious. ... Read more

With a professional-style food slicer at home, there's a lot less knife work to be done. Large portions of unsliced meats and cheeses stay fresher; just slice them as needed. Slice multiple onions or tomatoes at a time. This small, sturdy unit makes short work of what could otherwise be drawn-out tasks. Gray and black, with a shining steel blade, it is unobtrusively handsome. It's heavy enough so that it stays firmly planted on the counter top, and rubber skid-resistant feet help keep it steady.

The Feeder area tilts toward the back, and a heavy-duty clear plastic food press keeps fingers out of the way. The fully adjustable blade can make paper-thin slices or open up to cut thick slabs. A stainless steel catch tray can be placed in back to hold slices, and out front, there's an extendable section to the feeder area for larger food items. And a great safety feature is the dual-button set-up; you have to be holding the unlock button to be pressing the on button. This can be done with one hand, but it means that you can't walk away and leave the blade spinning, dangerously unsupervised.

As with anything that has a blade, be very careful when using and cleaning the Rival Professional Slicer. Unplug before cleaning, and adjust the thickness knob to zero. Do not was the blade in the dishwasher; carefully wash with hot soapy water, and preferably rinse in a weak bleach solution to sanitize. Dry blade immediately and return it to its housing. Slicer measures 14 by 10-1/2 by 10 inches. Rival provides a limited warranty against defects in material and workmanship under normal use conditions. --Garland Withers ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great slicer, great price!
This slicer is the least expensive slicer that tilts back, giving a much better control over slicing. And has great adjustment for thickness-not quite a commerical deli slicer, but also not $500.00!! AND the Rivco.com site lists 2 customer service numbers, if one cares to look!

1-0 out of 5 stars you only get what you pay for!
I reviewed on-line information for 10 days before purchasing this unit. I was shopping for price and features. This unit had a great rating with its 130 watt motor, and the average retail was around $90. However, this unit was a huge disappointment. I only had the unit for two weeks, and during those two weeks I only used it 3 times. I sliced one 5-lb boneless, cooked ham. Then a few days later, I sliced up a 1-lb pepperoni stick. A few days later, I sliced another 5-lb boneless, cooked ham. The slicer worked fine, "like a dream," the first time I used it. It worked just "OK" the second time, but by the third time I used it, smoke was coming out of the motor, it was running at about 1/2 the normal speed, and it was making a lot of noise. There was no way to contact Rival by phone. The only contact option was email or snail mail. I emailed them but got no response after seven days, so I returned the unit. This unit just doesn't have the "right stuff." It could be the "made in china" sticker on the bottom. I found this unit (Rival 1050-C) at Walmart.com for $59 + 4 tax + 7 S&H. I guess you only get what you pay for! Next, I am going to give the Waring F800 Pro a try. It is made in Italy and comes with a 5 year warranty on the motor. It's available for 184.95 at A2Z.com. ... Unlike the heavier stoneware crocks found in many slow cookers, this one is made of lightweight Extreme Temperature Cookware (ETC), also called VersaWare, a stoneware so versatile it can be used on a stovetop, in an oven, under a broiler, and in a microwave. The lid is also made of ETC, which makes the five-quart pot ideal for storing pre-assembled foods in the freezer or refrigerator, and baking covered dishes in the oven. Of course, the round crock also sits in the slow-cooker base, an unusual cradle design featuring four metal legs with rubber feet. A single knob sets the cooker at low, high, and keep warm, a convenient setting for maintaining food at just the right serving temperature.

On the two cook settings, low and high, the pot can slow-cook a wide variety of stews, roasts, and soups, recipes for which are printed in an included 79-page recipe booklet. Meat can be braised first on the stovetop, and casseroles can be browned under the broiler just before serving. Both the base and crock feature loop-style handles for easy lifting. Measuring 9 by 13 by 10-1/2 inches, with internal dimensions of 9-1/2 by 4-1/2 inches, the slow cooker comes with a short, 32-inch cord that removes from the base for storage and lets the entire unit stand alone on a serving buffet. The heavy stoneware crock, which lifts out of the heating base, cleans easily thanks to a stick-resistant coating and is attractive enough to serve from right at the table. While the crock is safe for use in the microwave and dishwasher, it is not intended for use on a stovetop or under a broiler.

Included with the CrockPot is a bonus Little Dipper, a miniature 1-1/2-cup electric pot that heats and holds dips and fondues at serving temperature. An attached 25-inch cord allows just enough reach for setting the pot on a counter or buffet. The dipper features a plastic lid but not a removable crock, so the pot needs to be washed out by hand without submerging in water. The larger CrockPot, which measures 7 by 14 by 12 inches with a 40-inch power cord, is topped by a dishwasher-safe glass lid, which sends moisture back into the pot while at the same time allows contents to be viewed. The loop-style lid knob and sure-grip handles are heat resistant and easy to grasp. The set is covered by a one-year warranty. --Ann Bieri ... Read more

Ideal for taking along to a weekend cabin or storing in a small kitchen, this large griddle folds in half for compact, upright storage. When fully opened, the cooking surface measures a generous 21 by 10 inches, with a grease-channel around the perimeter and a removable drip tray. The two smooth-finish, nonstick plates cook up everything from eggs to grilled cheese sandwiches to hotdogs and hamburgers, and remove for convenient cleaning in the dishwasher.

Dual control knobs, one for each half, give this griddle extra versatility. Pancakes can cook on one side and stay warm on the other, or eggs and sausage can cook simultaneously at different temperatures. Each side features its own red 'on' light, and a knob that can be positioned infinitely up to 400 degrees F with marked settings every 25 degrees. For safety, a release button must be pushed before the open grill can be folded and closed. Cool-touch housing covers the outside and the handles that latch together. A cord wrap stows the 32-inch power cord neatly. When folded, the unit measures 14-1/4 by 13 by 5-1/2 inches. --Ann Bieri ... Read more

What sets this extra-large slow cooker apart is its digital recipe box of more than 200 recipes and its ability to be programmed for cooking time and temperature. When it reaches the end of the cooking time for the recipe you've selected, it turns itself down to keep warm until it's time to serve.

Its curvaceous, white design is handsome and the rubberized keypads (easy to wipe!) are easy to use. The screen where the recipes appear is at a slight upward angle, so there's no having to crouch down to read it. An audible tone lets you know when cooking time is over. And there are enough recipes in this Smart-Pot--from casseroles to soups and even some great desserts--that dinner will be anything but a routine.

Clean-up is very easy; warm soapy water will do the trick. (The programmable base unit is not immersible; just use a soapy rag or cloth.) Do not use scratchy, abrasive cleaners on the chrome exterior. Glass lid is dishwasher-safe. The slow cooker measures 16-1/2 by 15 by 8 inches. Rival includes a one-year warranty against defects and comes with a detailed booklet of instructions, recipes, and tips. --Garland Withers ... Read more

it is big. .. easy to use. . . i like the multiple settings and timers. . .. I think it is fabulous!

4-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
I have to disagree with a lot of the negative reviews - I really like this crockpot a lot....the shift-to-warm feature is wonderful, as are all the programmatic functions. The lid fits just fine, and the pot is nice looking as well (yes, it's kind of big, but it's supposed to be! It's all pot, not additional packaging). I do agree that the recipes should be in a book, but, with that said, the recipes I've made so far were lousy anyway - very bland. So, the recipe function is an add-on that may be nice on principle, but not a reason by itself to buy the pot. Buy it for its digital capabilities, design and volume.

3-0 out of 5 stars Christmas gift gone bad
I was very excited to see a high tech crock pot under my tree, only to find out that it is difficult to manuever. The menu screen is hard to read and I don't believe there is over 200 recipes, its like uh...what are my options? Not only is there little choice really, the buttons don't exactly function well. You have to push them very hard and you have to be a magician to find that working spot. If you have lots of time, this unit is for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Much better than the other one
After two failed attempts with the other Rival slow cooker, I got this one for Christmas. What a difference! While the other crock pot was a slow cooker in name only, this did the job extremely well. I've used it twice on the low setting, and both times the food was cooked perfectly. The recipes were easy to follow, although it would be nice if they were also in a seperate booklet so they'd be easier to preview. Clean up was a breeze. I'd highly recommend this!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not-so-smart crock pot
My wife and I both work (long hours) outside of our home so we've used crock pots for many years to help prepare easy, wholesome meals for weeknights. We have been looking for a unit that will automatically shift the "keep warm" after a specified cooking time so my wife gave me one of these new "super-pots" for Christmas. I've tried to cook 2 meals (seafood chowder & ham with navy beans) on the low setting in this pot and it has burned them both. As mentioned above, you'd think an $80 crock would come with a printed recipe book but it didn't so if you're preparing your grocery shopping list you have to drag this monster out, plug it in and mess with a very unfriendly program to try to find the list of ingredients for a given recipe. What a pain! Lastly, the LCD display screen is VERY hard to see in a lighted room. You have to shade it with one hand while pushing buttons with the other to try to find and read the text. It REALLY needs its own backlight. I understand marketing and the fact that it must be very hard to continue findings ways to "improve" something as basically great as the original crock pot but the folks at Rival REALLY missed the boat on this thing. Save some money and buy a more conventional model with fewer bells and whistles and maybe a little better temperature control! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Impressive and Practical - as long as you have room to store
We love this electric skillet. We seasoned it the first day and have used it at least 10 times so far with no complaints. It is very large (I can fry up at least 15 rounds of eggplant at once). The temperature is even throughout and the cover is wonderful because you can see through it without lifting it off the food. I love that I can cook up big amounts of food and freeze the rest for quick dinners. Cleanup is very easy and it says it can be washed in the dishwasher (but I don't want to do that because the stainless steel is still so pretty!). It's sturdy and the skillet sits high enough off the counter that the counter top does not get hot. It is a very large skillet though -so storing it may be an issue. I keep mine in it's box because my home has narrow kitchen cabinets. You can hang the pan itself on a hook, but the lid cannot be hung (that we have figured out yet). Great buy for the price!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's Wonderful!
I purchased this skillet for a specific purpose: To make paella from my own recipe. I use medium grain rice in the dish, and was having problems getting the rice to cook evenly. I concluded that an electric skillet would make preparation easier. This skillet is wonderful!

Everyone who has seen it has commented on how nice it looks. It looks like an expensive chafing dish, not the typical, cheesy electric skillet. It has some weight, and sits flat on the table, not on top of spindly legs.

I seasoned the pan as the booklet recommended. There was no sticking (which is unusual considering the dish I was making). The skillet cooked my dish very nicely. In fact, this was the best paella I have ever made. The rice was perfect.

I was able to put the skillet on the table for serving (on warm). It looked very nice on the table. Its size was perfect: It held a main dish for 6 people without being very full. It will be perfect on a buffet table. The pan heated evenly across the bottom. It was very responsive to changes in temperature. The pan was easy to clean.

I am planning to use the skillet for a lot of other things. I was surprised how useful such a big skillet is!

3-0 out of 5 stars Pros and cons
Be sure you want a big pan, because it is big. 2# of hamberger get lost in it. I like the way it cooks and it cleans up fairly easy. There's only one thing I was not happy about. I followed the directions on how to season and temper the pan. I'm not sure what happened, but after I oiled it and wiped it out, I was letting it go through a couple heat cycles (per directions) and it burned the oil into the finish. So now my pretty silver pan has brown spots that haven't come out yet after several washings. Oh well, it still cooks great.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST ELECTRIC FRYER EVER!!!!!!!!!!!
I havent had any problems with mine and i've had it for about 6 months now. I use it all the time. I have a family of 5 and this was the best cookwear ever invented. It cleans sooo beautifully also. Anyone who doesnt agree with me must have gotten a dud. Mine is perfect!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A good investment
I have owned this skillet for about a year. It has been wonderful. It is very wide, but not tall. It is perfect for paella. The skillet controls the temperature perfectly, and looks great on a buffet table or on the dinner table. It has a stainless steel finish and looks like a nice chafing dish.

It is easy to clean. I am glad the skillet does not have a non-stick coating, since that finish seems to eventually come off of every pan I have owned. I season the pan as described in the brochure, and things never stick to it.

I am very happy with this skillet. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for chili, soups, etc...
This is a great value and enduring product. I've had my Rival crock pot for over 10 years, and have used it literally HUNDREDS of times. This is another one of those very low cost but high value kitchen tools.

The low setting allows for slow (12 hour+) cooking overnight or all day. I love to put on a pot of chili before I go to bed or work, and let the house soak up the aroma!

Just be careful with the countertop placement, as the sides get very hot!

5-0 out of 5 stars We're a Rival Family
When I was looking for a crockpot, I wanted something affordable and durable. My Mom had a Rival crock pot when I was younger (it was orange and older than the hills). My Dad also has an older version of this one, only it has a plastic lid. After 10 years, the lid broken, but it still works.

I got this one and love it. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that are available with some of the more costly models, nor does it have a design. It is just a nice crock pot that is big enough for a small roast or a pot of chili (which is great on a winter's day) ... Read more

Candle-heated fondues are quaint, but they can also be hard to get hot and messy to clean. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent fondue pot!!!
Just received this one and used it for dinner last night, and it was wonderful! The kids loved being their own chef, and the pot held it's heat very well. Can't wait to try some of the great recipes that came in the booklet...

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Family Fun
I have two children of my own and we have done fondue in the past, however, when I married a man with 3 children, our fondue pot wasn't large enough to accomodate all of us. When I saw this one, I had to try it. All 7 of us can have an entire fondued meal and have a lot of fun doing it. It's a great way to slow dinner down and spend some quality time with the family. The oil or chocolate stays the right temperature and the magnetic release cord makes me feel so much more at ease, because I know if one of the kids trips on the cord the pot isn't going to turn over. It is very well made. We love it!

2-0 out of 5 stars It doesn't last
My husband and I received this as a wedding gift seven months ago. After occasional use, the cheap plastic handles and legs have broken off, and can't be glued back together. This is very upsetting, since it was wonderful for cheese and chocolate fondue before it broke.

3-0 out of 5 stars Difficult for cheese and chocolate
This is a GREAT pot for oil and broth, it heats quickly and is easy to adjust. It's wonderful. But here's the deal. If you want to make a perfect three course fondue meal, you need TWO pots. This pot is too large and doesn't have a low enough setting to make cheese work with the right consistency. You can make chocolate in it, but you have make a large quantity for it to work. Finally, this pot is difficult to clean cheese and scratches too easily. But, you cannot use the fuel canister type for boiling oil or broth, so it's a perfect set-up to simply buy two! This is the best pot for broth and oil, check out the Anolon Professional 1-1/2-Quart Fondue Set for chocolate and cheese. I now have two of each and can serve a full course fondue meal for 8 with two different cheese and chocolate options! It's great fun.

3-0 out of 5 stars pretty good
I've used it a couple of times for chocolate, and once with cheese. Chocolate worked great because I melted the chocolate in a double boiler and then poured it into the fondue pot to keep warm. When I did cheese, I made the fondue right in the pot, which wasn't such a good idea. The heating element, like most, is either on or off. This means that it gets things very hot, then the thermostat turns off the element and gets it very cold, before it cycles on again. This makes it impossible to keep things at a simmer while you try melting your cheese. When the heating element is on, there is a ring of boiling cheese right over the heating element, meaning that there needs to be much stirring. Next time I do cheese fondue, I'm going to make it elsewhere (on my stovetop) and then transfer it to the pot to keep warm while I enjoy it. ... Read more

Unlike the heavier stoneware crocks found in many slow cookers, this one is made of lightweight Extreme Temperature Cookware (ETC), also called VersaWare, a stoneware so versatile it can be used on a stovetop, in an oven, under a broiler, and in a microwave. The lid is also made of ETC, which makes the six-quart pot ideal for storing pre-assembled foods in the freezer or refrigerator, and baking covered dishes in the oven. Of course, the oval-shape crock also sits in the slow-cooker base, an unusual cradle design featuring four metal legs with rubber feet.

3-0 out of 5 stars After use enthusiasm with quality dewindles
I've owned this wok for approximately one year and it has had minumum use;maybe twice a month. Once before I had used it and one of the four plastic support legs was loose so I tightened it with a screwdriver. My wife usually uses it the majority of the time. Today while making fried rice two of the legs loosened and the wok sat on the counter. After washing it I looked at the legs and noticed that on each leg there is a minute piece of plastic that fits into a small hole in the base of the wok that prevents the leg from turning. Several of these were missing. I put locktight on all the screws and tightened them but stripped one. The screws are simple metal screws. I thought that I was buying quality. I also noted that the price has dropped dramaticly since I paid eighty some dollars for mine.

5-0 out of 5 stars One excellent wok!
Wow, am I amazed at how great this thing works!
I've used a steel wok on an electric range for years, wishing I had a gas range because it would heat and cool almost instantly...as a wok should. Today I stir fried some vegetables in my Rival. After steaming under that great glass lid, I removed it to add my sauce mixture and turned off the heat as usual to start the cool down. The heat went all the way off and I had to turn it up again to finish thickening the sauce. This is the closest thing I can imagine to using I gas burner. You'd better get one of these!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Wok Out There!
I looked at just about every brand of wok on the market and believe me, this is the best. It's a very heavy-duty stainless steel with a high gloss finish that makes it look great on the counter. I also like the glass lid and the capacity makes it super for entertaining. Being able to put it in the dishwasher really sets it apart from the rest. Excellent value too!

5-0 out of 5 stars There is no Rival for the Rival Wok
This is one of the greatest woks that I have ever owned. Its incredible 7.3 quart capacity helps a lot when I need to cook something at one time. Also, when it gets dirty; which usually doesn't occur, I just stick the wok in the dishwasher and I have no fear of it breaking because it is made out of steel. The best feature of the wok is that I can control the temperature whenever I want to. In my opinion, I think this is the one of the best wok's ever. ... Read more

The FSD200 8-Quart Digital Steamer is a fine piece of kitchen equipment--attractive, easy to assemble and use, and easy to clean. Steaming in a pot on the stove works just fine usually, but it's easy to ruin a pan by letting the water boil away, and it sometimes take a while for the steam to build up. This digital steamer lets you know with a continuous audible tone when the water has run out, and its rapid heating function begins steaming almost immediately.

Steaming is a healthy, easy way to prepare all kinds of food, and the enclosed instruction booklet helps out with simple instructions for steaming veggies, rice, seafood, and meats. There's even a section on eggs, hard-cooked, poached, or scrambled. Make a complete meal by steaming rice in one bowl while doing fish and vegetables in the other.

Cleaning the steamer is easy; all the components that attach to the base can go into the dishwasher or be washed with warm soapy water. There are more detailed directions for cleaning the heating element if it acquires a build-up over time. The steamer measures 14-1/2 by 10 by 10-1/2 inches, fully assembled; without the attached components, the base measures 12 by 10 by 4-1/2 inches. Many people swear by the traditional way to make ice cream, with ice and rock salt and lots of turning of the crank. The Rival 6-Quart Electric Ice Cream Maker keeps the ice and salt, but takes away the cranking. A powerful motor mixes up to a gallon of homemade ice cream, sorbet or frozen yogurt; the quantity is nice for large gatherings or just for people who enjoy their ice cream. When disassembled, the ice cream maker is easy to transport, making it perfect for cookouts or camping, provided there's electricity. The instruction booklet comes with 18 ice cream recipes, including Rocky Road and Praline Almond Fudge.

Rival has modernized the old-fashioned ice cream maker's wooden bucket look with a tall blue canister of heavy-duty plastic and a sleek white motor casing with a spiral design. The ice cream can is made of sturdy aluminum, and it is marked with a convenient fill-to line. Cleaning is easy; just use hot soapy water. Towel dry the inner can; air-drying may result in spots. The motor section is not immersible. When assembled, the ice cream maker is 12 inches across by 18-1/2 inches tall, but it disassembles into outer and inner canisters, paddle, and motor. Amazon.com Review

Deep-fried foods are usually something we eat at restaurants, partly because it seems like making them at home would be messy and complicated. But this restaurant-quality deep fryer means that making fried treats like French fries, onion rings, shrimp tempura, and doughnuts can easily be done in any home kitchen. The brushed steel housing with black accents has the look of a professional kitchen tool. There is a simple temperature knob, and a green ready light tells when the proper oil temperature has been reached. A view window in the lid helps with keeping an eye on what's frying inside.

Safety features include non-skid feet, sturdy lid and side handles, an exterior housing that stays cool, and a magnetic cord that will detach if the machine is jostled, effectively shutting it down. It also has a filter in the lid that traps odor-causing smoke during cooking. The basket handle folds into the basket for more compact storage, and there's a basket rest for holding food up out of the oil while it's draining. A ticking kitchen timer rings to say that the food is done.

The stainless steel oil reservoir detaches for easy cleaning and is dishwasher safe. The deep fryer measures 16 by 9 by 10 inches (unit is 21 inches long when 5-inch handle is extended). Rival includes a one-year warranty against defects and comes with a detailed booklet of instructions, recipes, and tips. --Garland Withers ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Sent it back
I brought this Rival deep fryer based upon the reviews and the brand name. For me, the Pros are: fast to heat up(dial lights up when on and green light comes on when it is ready)-no beep like on the stove timer, easy to clean the housing, cooked so fast that the chicken was almost too dry, the price wasn't bad, and finally has large capacity. Now, the cons are: took up much counter space (handle sticks far out), required a gallon of oil to fill to the min. level, but the basket fill-line level was marked very low compared to the entire basket, my husband complained of very pungent greasy odor when entering the house(the odor filter was supposed to I thought contain most of cooking odor), I couldn't not view the food even after following the direction to drop oil on the inside window(so I had to lift the top each time to look to see if it was done) and lastly I had to really scrub to get the basket clean to send it back after using it once. Overall, did a good job but required too much space and oil. I went back to the chicken fryer. Cheaper; requires less space and oil.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rival Stainless Steel Deep Fryer
I recently purchased this deep fryer from my local Target store. After having wasted my money on other plastic round worthless models from other companies that were messy, hard to clean and took hours to heat up, I can attest this is by far the best home deep fryer I have used since the Fry Daddy. The oil heats up in no time, my kitchen stayed spatter free after cooking 40 chinese egg rolls, and best of all.. clean up was a BREEZE.. I took out the oil pan and disassembled the unit in 20 seconds.. threw it in the dishwasher and I was done! This is by far the best rival product I have ever purchased and I'm glad Target carries it. I would highly recommend it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cooking Odors Remain
This product has a nice appearance, the basket on the handle is intact, quick to heat up, and is easy to clean. However, I have had similar products before and this one leaves cooking odors so badly I can hardly stand it. I rarely use mine because of that. It appears as if the filter material is not adequate - I am looking for ideas on how to remedy that situation because otherwise it is a good product.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this fryer!
This is a great fryer! I use it at least 4 or 5 times a week.. sometimes more. Someone said that the level of oil was really low.. well, it is. But when you place food into the basket and then into the oil, the oil rises.
Yes, you do get an oil smell in your house after using it, but you get that with every fryer.
We love the stainless steel look of this fryer and everything about it! We have had this for about a year and it still looks new even though we use it so much!!! If you are looking for a fryer, this is definately the one to get!

5-0 out of 5 stars I have a Restraunt in my kitchen!!
I've only had mine for about a month, but we love it. This is my third deep fryer, and is definitely my favorite. Easy to use, easy to clean, and, looks nice too. ... Read more
