Amazon.com Review

An inexpensive introduction to the delights of rotisserie-roasted meats and poultry, this countertop device is large enough to spit-roast chicken, a small turkey, a leg of lamb, a rack of ribs, or several kabobs. Place the spit through the wire food basket that accompanies the rotisserie and it will rotate chicken wings, salmon steaks, or other foods through the roasting cycle. Meanwhile, place the enameled-steel steaming tray atop the rotisserie, cover with its plastic lid, and the rotisserie will steam vegetables or shrimp. Three settings of the spit permit normal rotation, no-heat rotation to keep juices distributed evenly until serving, and pause-to-sear so that meats can be browned. Since it stars in an infomercial, the rotisserie also comes with an excellent instructional video. --Fred Brack

Editor's note: This is a reconditioned small appliance. Reconditioned generally means that the appliance has been returned to the manufacturer, which brings it back to like-new condition. Some appliances may contain cosmetic blemishes. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars set it and forget it!
i have watched the infomercial for this product hundreds of times. i bet it's a fine product. the dishes look delicious. and it's so easy to use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Product
I have had both this and the george junior rotisserie. I enjoy them both, We use these units about 3-4 times a week. It is so easy to cook. I place the meat or poultry in the unit, set it, and go about my business. A little later we cook fresh veggies (steamed) and bingo, your meal is done.

After dinner I rinse out the unit, and cook a load of chicken to take to work for me for my lunches all week. both of these products are amazing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Purchase
We purchased one of these brand new direct from Ronco almost a year ago. We loved it so much, that when Amazon had the reconditioned ones on sale for under $40.00 each, we bought two more for each one of our single sons. They love them. This machine makes the best chickens (4-5 lb), turkey roasts, prime rib roasts, kabobs (rods are extra) and burgers (in the basket) that you could wish for. Be sure to line the drip pan with foil. Clean up is very easy (be sure to take off the front glass cover). Do not get this compact model for a large family. These work well for up to 4 people, but no more.

4-0 out of 5 stars The real deal...
This is an awesome machine, and so easy to use and cleanup.
A few things to pay attention to though:
-It doesn't come with the kabob attachments which I thought it would have as seen in the infomercial.
-It is also the smaller model and does not old a decent sized chicken.
-As a tip, wrap the bottom trays in aluminum foil to make cleanup a breeze.

I am still not disappointed and very happy with it. I usually only cook for one or two people, and this machine is perfect for that. If you're looking to cook whole chickens or turkeys, go with the bigger model which is definitly going to be worth the price due to the fabulous dinners you will get from it. I've cooked steak to chicken to burgers, and they all came out so juicy and tender. It was like it was right off the bbq only juicier.
Mine was reconditioned, and it was like new taking it out of the box. Only upon careful inspection could you see it had been used. But it works great, and I can't wait to keep trying new things in it!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good machine...
I was a bit skeptical of this product being udder trash since it was one of those made for TV type products. It is pretty cheap construction, but the results are good. It makes it really easy to cook a chicken and just about anything else turns out really good. The results are tuff to argue and it's fairly easy to clean. Only complaint is the build quality is on the cheap side, but the results speak for themselves. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

This Ronco dehydrator dries everything from fruits and vegetables to meats and seafood to flowers and herbs to flour-and-water dough for crafts. It makes beef jerky (and other jerkies) and, with the aid of a little unpasturized yogurt as a starter, it also makes yogurt. This 5-tray model is a medium-size convection-air dehydrator, as opposed to the 10- and 15-tray models that use motorized fans, and runs silently. It can take a day or two to dry apple slices, which may be longer than a motorized-fan unit. Up to five trays can be stacked on the base, and then the unit plugs into a wall socket. The included trays are 12-1/2 inches in diameter, the unit is 12-3/4 inches high, and instruction/recipe booklets come with it. For fruit rollups and dried herbs and flowers, special trays and screens can be ordered separately. --Fred Brack ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Still good after all these years!
I have had my dehydrator for almost as long as I've had my 16 year old son. I read a review where the trays melted; however, on mine, the unit's bottom is a little warped, and looks funny, but it still works great. I've never made the yogurt or fruite roll ups, but I've made jerky in all flavors, and many kinds of dried fruit. My favorite is fresh pineapple dunked in a water/honey mixture, then dried. It's just as good as Trader Joes.
It doesn't seem to matter that the drippings land on the heating element, and I wash it as well.
I was hoping to order extra trays with a Christmas gift cert. via Amazon. Oh well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good inexpensive model to start with
I have used my Ronco Dehydrator for quite some time now. I honestly love the beef jerky that you can create. You can spice to your personal preference. This dehydrators like many others has trays that you need to manually rotate. So plan to do this when you are going to be around the house to rotate your trays. The heating element like another suggested isn't protected, so you want to be sure to keep that extra clean, especially when working with herbs that may tend to crackle apart. The trays can be a little tough to clean, but generally nothing that your average dishwasher can't handle.
I have also used my dehydrator to dry vegetables, and banana chips. All in all I think its a great price to see if you enjoy making dehydrated foods. I have not used this machine to make yogurt, but I think it would be a bit cumbersome to make yogurt in this. But a couple of round of beef jerky and you have more than paid for this machine!

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than OK, but not great
Got this for my wife and we have used to to dry mainly herbs and flowers and things for decorations. It puts off a lot of heat but the lack of a fan makes it uneven. I added a computer case fan to the bottom and that helps a lot. Point is, you shouldn't have to do that.

1-0 out of 5 stars Trays melted
On the first use, making beef jerkey, the plastic trays melted after about 8 hours. Will not recommend this product to anybody.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great tool for learning the ropes
So many people have written great reviews, so I won't parrot what is pretty unanimous here. Maybe a piece of advice for potential buyers that hasn't been covered:

This is a great product for the money, but if you have a larger family, eat jerky/dehydrated foods as a staple, or are impatient, I would recommend moving up to the 10-tray motorized fan version - the manual claims it will make jerky (and more of it) 400% faster. Even if it's only twice as fast, it's worth the price of admission to me.

Oh, and if you're a big jerky eater, get Mary Bell's book - it's full of great jerky marinade recipes. Seriously - people are trying to pay me for jerky instead of buying it in the store! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great machine, terrible service
I bought mine over a year ago and used it a couple of dozen times. The machine does make great pasta and is relatively easy to use. Unfortunately, the face plate cracked the last time I used it rendering the machine unusable. I tried to buy a replacement from Ronco for 3 months without success. Ronco's customer service is non-existent. You can't get through on their 800 number and they do not reply to e-mails sent to their customer service department. They also do not have a facility on their website to place orders for parts. I ultimately did get through to their parts order department by phone, placed the order but never received a thing! I will NEVER buy a Ronco product again!

2-0 out of 5 stars Loved it when it worked
I had this machine for about 6 months and used it for making so many different wonderful types of pasta. It was actually fun to use and I was impressed with the quality and taste of the pasta. I used liquids such as champagne to make delicious fresh pasta that I even gave as gifts. Then...the machine cracked. The circular piece on the machine that held the extrusion die in place broke but the worst of it was that I could NOT contact the company for a replacement. I called week after week hunting down any number I could find for them to no avail. No one ever answered and I could not leave a message. Finally, I threw in the towel and threw out the machine. Too bad that customer service for such a marketed company can be so non-existent.

1-0 out of 5 stars Badly manufactured parts-- never used it
Interesting machine, looked well built, sturdy and easy to clean. Video that came with it explains everything in detail. Unfortunately right out of an undamaged box -- the lid, mixing bin and face plate (all clear plastic) had multiple cracks that penetrated both sides around all holes. It was my assumption that under the strain of use these cracks would only worsen and render the unit un-useable (except as a paperweight). Immediately sent for new parts and after waiting over 30 days the replacements were also cracked in the same locations and the mixing bin was of a different model and would not fit the motor base. Popeil does not answer e-mails or faxes, but did have luck on the phone in getting through. They wanted to send a new motor base and all new plastic parts again, but could not guarantee them to be free of manufacturing defects. In disgust, I was given a full refund and sent it back postage pre-paid to the seller -- who admitted that this item has had problems. Still want a pasta maker and there are several available such as Simax MX-700, but do not want to go through the hassle again with a defective product such as the Popeil unit.

1-0 out of 5 stars Mess Maker
The parts do not lock in and flour is flying all around. It is wet and when you try to put it back together, the flour keeps you from doing so. The flour jams the "turning gear" and threatens to break the machine. You cannot clean it as there are 100 tiny, tiny crevices which make cleaning impossible.

I sent it back and for 8 months have tried to get a refund. I still do not have one although I complied with all requests, including the receipt from UPS.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Good, the bad and the ugly
Actually I've used it often and the pasta was fantastic. However, clean up is not fun. The most disappointing thing tho is that if you need to make two batches... you need to start early. The machine makes one batch without a problem but the motor overheats shortly into the second batch and you have to let it sit for quite some time before it's useable again. Very frustrating if you have 3 or 4 or more to feed. ... Read more

An inexpensive introduction to the delights of rotisserie-roasted meats and poultry, this countertop device is large enough to spit-roast two chickens, a 15-pound turkey, a leg of lamb, a rack of ribs, or six kabobs.

At this price, you wouldn't expect this rotisserie to be restaurant sturdy. But it's not flimsy, either. Measuring 17 by 15 by 13-1/2 inches, it delivers 1,250 watts of cooking power inside an enameled-steel case with a tempered-glass door. Three settings of the spit permit normal rotation, no-heat rotation to keep juices distributed evenly until serving, and pause-to-sear so that meats can be browned. 12 elastic ties to bind foods, a pair of heavy synthetic gloves for removing items from the unit, and $100 in coupons for other Ronco products accompany the rotisserie. 5-0 out of 5 stars Love this product
After reading all the reviews, I decided to take the plunge. I have used my machine for chops, chicken, ham, roast, and vegetables. To make this an easy to clean appliance, you simply line the drip tray with foil, and spray the grate with non stick spray. I also add water to the drip tray and this eliminates all smoke and adds moisture to the meat. After I finish cooking, I just empty the water out, wipe off the foil lined tray and clean the grate which is very easy to do.The foil lasts through several cookings and cleans up in a snap. I have found this machine to be as easy to clean as a roaster from the conventional oven.As for the inside of the machine, I just wipe it down each time. I can completely clean the Showtime in about 5 minutes. If you like the taste of rotisserie cooked foods, this is certainly a good investment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Succulent food... mouth watering!
I've owned this Rotisserie for a year now and have used it over 30 times for duck, chicken, turkey, steaks, pork and fish. Not once have guests, my family and I been less than delighted by the taste and we all highly appreciate that cooking in the Rotisserie helps reduce the amount of fat to the minimum.

The size of this unit holds perfectly fine up to a 15 lb. turkey, and it's the best Thanksgiving Turkey I've ever had. Beautifully browned on the exterior and perfectly cooked, juicy and soft meat on the inside. And juicy is very important because a lot of people would think that a Rotisserie will dry foods out but this is not the case, because while the food is constantly turning it gets cooked in its own juices and all the excess fat will drip down to the tray.

For convenience, taste of the results, ease of use and cleaning I give this unit 5 stars. The only reason why I would ever give it 4 stars is because, after a year, the plastic railing and control case is beginning to show cracks. Nothing too serious, yet, but proof that there's room for improvement by using better materials. Clearly the plastic used cannot withstand correctly the heat generated by the Rotisserie, it doesn't melt, but cracks appear here and there. It still works same as new, has not fell apart, not even a piece, which is why I still give it 5 stars!

I highly recommend this Rotisserie to everyone who likes meat. It's so easy to use that you'll enjoy superb meals more often than ever before, and healthier and cheaper (much) than going to restaurants. After a year, my Rotisserie has well paid for itself... several times.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two words: BUY IT! (You WILL use it!)
Great product! I have to admit, I'm addicted to kitchen appliances. I love 'em! What separates the Ronco Rotisserie from the others is that I actually use it and use it often.

I purchased mine after seeing the infomercial. To my delight and surprise, it was presented accurately. This makes roasting a breeze, clean up a snap and the results are mouth watering.

For a while, I used it to only roast chicken. As a single, working mother, I'd roast two at a time, intending to use the cooked chicken for chicken salads, Cordon Bleu, curries, sandwiches, etc. throughout the week. Since then, I've cooked just about everything, my favorite now being roast beef. (Marinate the roast in beer overnight, then make a rub with seasoned salt and rosemary, apply liberally. Delicious!)

My included flavor injector doesn't work well, so I don't use it. I've tried injecting lime juice under my chicken's skins and the juice pours out of the injector before I have inserted it into the meat. This may be a defective injector, but I thought it worth mentioning to other consumers.

Also, I have attempted to use the "steamer" located on top of the Rotisserie. The "steamer", in actuality is just a pan which is warmed solely from the heat that the unit emits. Thus, I cannot control its heat and my vegetables have come out too soft for my preference.

Having mentioned heat, I must state that this unit gets HOT. PLEASE use with caution! Unlike the slogan repeated on the informercial, you really cannot "set it and forget it". You MUST monitor your Showtime Rotisserie. There is even a warning upon the window to this effect.

As pleased as I was with my Rotisserie, I recommended it to my sister. We'd both used ours to cook Thanksgiving turkeys. Apparently, she had not trimmed down or tied her wings tightly (you do not have to buy extra meat ties [over priced] from Ronco or inexpensively from your meat market. I use unwaxed, unflavored dental floss with wonderful results). This, combined with the fact that the fat really does copiously drip into the pan at the base of the unit, resulted in a grease fire. The unit and the turkey were salvaged however.

Finally, I share that one of our local news stations (Washington, D.C.) did an in depth investigation on infomercials. Its purpose was to report if products that the infomercials introduced were as easy, practical and effective as they claimed. Its findings were that the ONLY product that was tested and worked as introduced was the Ronco Showtime Rotisserie.

If you follow directions, monitor your unit and do not become careless because of the ease of its use, you will have excellent results.

1-0 out of 5 stars I would definitely buy something else!
Okay, before buying this product, check out the review below from the person from New York - everything they said is absolutely true. Forget about dealing with Ronco - they're just rude and could care less about your problems with their products. Remember them from the 70s? How about that stud setter they used to have - remember how well they worked? Keep that in mind before trying their products. The food never comes out done - ignore completely their cooking times. I've had raw meat on too many occasions and quite frankly, I just don't use this thing at all anymore. It's huge, takes up a ton of counter space, won't fit in a cabinet, so that means I get to carry this monster up and down the basement stairs. The unit doesn't keep warm hardly and won't cook things at the right temperature, the spatterings from the meat are just tremendous to clean and takes so much time that I'd rather use the oven. I love rotisserie food but this thing is just not worth the bother. I bought mine from QVC and they didn't stand behind it either. A piece of advice - don't call Ronco for replacement elastics. They cost $20! I use embroidery floss- it's certainly cheaper than Ronco's elastics. And, I wish someone out there would do some testing on the rubs that are included with this oven. Charcoal is supposed to be a carcinogen so I hesitate using these rubs because they contain charred pieces. I'm going to try the George Foreman rotisserie - it certainly cannot be as bad as this thing. Oh, don't let the glass door loose or it will cause a LOT of damage to whatever it hits. I can't tell you how many times my husband has been hit in the head with that thing when I stored it on top of the fridge. Storage is a DEFINITE problem with this oven. You'd be better off using a grill or going to the grocery store to buy a rotisserie chicken. Would definitely save you a ton of time. That set it and forget thing they advertise for this oven is just ridiculous. All I do is check the thing to see if it's done because their times are so inaccurate.

I really, really hate this thing and sincerely wish that I had received a different product than this one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Oh, all I wanted was COMPLETE!! kabob rods run away again
I bought the Showtime Rotisserie for my 80 yr. old Daddy & Mom who is sick & can not cook any longer. I was excited about the fact that they 'd be able to use the kabob rods to put lean pork, shrimp, veggies on, etc. But like at least 2 other recent reviewers, the package did not contain the kabob rods. My dad is happy with the way the chickens cooked & since he's needing to cook this way to help handle new diagnosed diabetes, I am happy that he likes it. But all of us WISH that the manufacturer had included the kabob rods. I understand they're about $6-8 EACH, and I also am dreading getting involved (time consuming!) To get a refund, I need to return item (and it'll be like taking candy....), and so I've got to convince RONCO of their ommission (instead they put a plastic vegetable tray & 5 knives) (something we'd already bought with an ADDITIONAL ACCESSORY pak.) Just beware buyers. Don't know how you ward his off...I was hoping "maybe it just won't be me!" HOPE THAT AMAZON will intervene?? to put accountability on their mftr/sellers? ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars For An Italian It's A Mistake
If I hadn't grown up rolling my own pasta by hand then I would probably love it. I find myself using the lasagne attachment and then rolling the pasta thinner. It is also difficult to adapt other pasta recipes to the machine. Our family recipe for pasta would probably break the machine. Also, some that I've found in cookbooks won't adapt well either. The pasta maker is easy to use and really does work well. The machine is great for anyone who knows no better, or wants to make sausage. For an Italian, it's a mistake.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delivers What It Promises
Years ago, I owned an older model of this machine, and I loved it. This one appears to be just as good. Simple to assemble and easy to clean, the machine makes great pasta. Just remember to heed the manufacturer's advice to let the dough mix for at least four minutes before trying to extrude the noodles, otherwise, you might end up with cement-like dough in your machine. This product would make a great gift.

1-0 out of 5 stars Broke on 1st use
Avoid this product at all costs. The cheap little attachments that the dough is forced through are flimsy plastic and if your dough is even slighty too hard, they break. Ronco warranty won't cover them. So your stuck with a useless piece of plastic

1-0 out of 5 stars Long wait for Broken machine.
Well as soon as I took the thing out of the box I heard a rattle. The noise was a broken power switch and I can't even turn it on. Waited for months to get it, then got it, and now can't use it. Trying to return it, so in six months from now I will be able to use it for the first time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Forget the Instructions
I recently bought one of these pasta makers. The instructions were horrendous. I either had a drop of water too much or a pinch of flour too much. The pasta was either too dry to extrude or so full of moisture that it came out in a lump. I was breaking the dyes right and left. I used a basic pasta recipe called Trenette: 2 1/2 cups unbleached-all purpose flour, 1/2 cup semolina flour, 1 teaspoon fine salt, 2 large eggs, and 1/2 cup filtered water. Using sea (kosher) salt and filtered or bottled water was very important. The sea salt enhances the taste of the pasta greatly, and I found that ordinary tap water left an undesirable aftertaste. You will find that this dough is very elastic and not as yellow as the basic recipe for pasta. I first put the eggs, water, and salt in a food processor and mixed the ingredients thoroughly. I then added the semolina flour with the food processor still running. Next, I added the unbleached flour a tablespoon at a time until the dough formed a ball and was rolling around inside the food processor with the sides of the bowl remaining clean. I then took it out and kneaded it a couple minutes, and put it in a covered bowl in a warm place and let it rest for 5 minutes. I then put it in the pasta maker and after it had kneaded about 5 minutes, I let it extrude. I came out easy with great texture and consistency. I have eaten a lot of pasta in my days, but this was the best that I have ever eaten. Good luck and enjoy. ... Read more

Kids who find egg whites repulsive and/or difficult to deal with when preparing their own scrambled eggs, French toast, and omelets will delight in this little electric gadget. It scrambles eggs inside their shells in just eight seconds. As a bonus, those scrambled eggs can be left inside their shells and hard-boiled, creating hard-boiled eggs with no yolks in the center--what a concept! Standing 5-3/4 inches high, the plastic device takes up little counter space and works so simply even a kid's parents can figure it out. Inside the device's cup is a needle set on an angle and slightly bent so it can generate a whipping motion. Push the big end of an egg onto the needle and then push down a little farther and the device (plugged into a wall socket with an included A/C adapter) spins the needle and blends the egg's white and yolk. Crack the egg and it comes out scrambled. --Fred Brack ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Take a pill! Scramble an egg.
I have had one of these for at least 15 years! It does eggxactly what it is advertized to do. It does a great job of scrambling one egg at a time.

It is faster if you have a lot of eggs to scramble to do a batch in a bowl.

The only issue would be that it is not really easy to clean. Considering it's eggs and he risks associated with them you need to keep it really clean.

I really wish that only people that HAVE a product get to do reviews on a product. If you bought it and found it has problems then complain but don't complain because YOU don't think it's useful!

I am tired of reading reviews only to find out that it's a political view of the correctness of the product and because they do not see it as useful I should not buy one. Seems to me that people thought that the automobile was originally a useless device.

Is there one person dumb enough to buy this thing?

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!!
Dude, check this out: This nifty doodad scrambles eggs INSIDE THE SHELL!! How do ya like that? This is the best money I've ever spent! It's very reassuring to think that at this moment, while we live and breathe, there are geniuses in labs somewhere getting paid good money to come up with these kinds of products so we can buy them! The Inside The Shell Electric Egg Scrambler is the king of my kitchen, and I'm considering buying a backup if I wear this one out. Order one, pronto! This sucker even comes with a dust cover!

1-0 out of 5 stars Why couldn't it end with the wine bottle glass cutter?
the only thing scarier than snotty egg whites is eating an all yellow hard boiled egg. Furthermore, usefulness of any product made for a kitchen counter that comes with a dust cover is suspect in my book.

4-0 out of 5 stars PRODUCT NAME SHOULD BE CHANGED IMMEDIATELY!
Being an Ova/Lacto Vegetarian, a serious Ron Popeil fan, and an Oologist by hobby, I found the Ronco unit to be an oviferous essential for my asbestos-age kitchen. Quick lunches, breakfasts, and snacks are whipped up in the time a championship bull ride takes place (8 Seconds for you non-Luke Perry Fans). It makes egg consistency perfect for mixing w/crumbs for "clumpless" breading. It works quickly, durably, and the feature my hired hands favor most...it's easy to clean. The dust cover is a nice touch, especially since there is a lot of dust in my home due to the construction of the indoor gazebo. Overall, I liked the scrambler. However, the product has a major flaw and I have a serious egg to scramble with Ronco. Recently I got together with my Oologist pals for our Bi-annual Egg-stravaganza. This year's theme was "Oolo-Just Do It!". I brought my Ronco thinking I would be the hit of the party. Instead I was Banned For Life. Oh the embarrassment! You see, when my Ostrich, Emu, Duck, Goose, Quail, Guinea, Pheasant, Robin, and even Platypus egg-loving friends tried the unit, many of their pricey ovum were destroyed. I cannot stress this enough; the name should be promptly changed to the Ronco-Electric CHICKEN Egg Scrambler.

4-0 out of 5 stars help me find kabobs
I just received my rotisserie. I have used it twice and really love it. Kabob rods didn't come with it and I can't find out where or how to buy some. If anyone knows I would love to hear from you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ronco Accessory Kit
Definitely need the extra basket if you've purchased a Ronco Rotisserie. Elastic ties are a bust. Use regular cotton string off a spool for a better grip.

Since people seem to be using this as somewhat of a forum, just thought I would let those of you who are wondering that you can buy replacement parts at Ronco.com. I have been trying to find a site that has parts for my rotisserie. The foot on the right side is broken and I need to replace it. Maybe the bottom feet could be made of a more heat resistant plastic or metal. The oven is great other than this. If anyone can help me, leave a note ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Chefs know that the secret to great roast chicken is the rotisserie, which sears the outside and tenderizes the meat inside for a succulent and simple meal. And now, home cooks have the power of the rotisserie in an appliance that sits on the countertop. The wonderful video instructions demonstrate how to truss a chicken, place it on the spit rods, and connect the spit wheel. Set the timer for 15 minutes per pound of chicken and then watch it roast through the glass door. The heat isn't adjustable, but three settings--normal rotation, pause and sear, and no heat rotation--are designed to cook meats to juicy perfection. All the accessories for preparing meats, fish, and vegetables, plus many extras and recipe ideas are included. The drip tray, heat reflector, and wheels remove for cleaning. --Lynne Sampson

Editor's note: This is a reconditioned rotisserie. Reconditioned generally means that the rotisserie has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the unit back to like-new condition. Some products may contain cosmetic blemishes. ... Read more
