5-0 out of 5 stars Breadman Fan
I love my Breadman Ultimate. It makes perfect, fluffy 100% whole wheat bread from the recipe in the book -- so perfect that even people who don't like whole wheat bread like this. This is no small thing, as whole grain bread (the only kind I want to eat) tends to be dense and sometimes a chore to eat. I like to make my own bread so that I know what is in it and so I can eat healthier. I love the dispenser for seeds, as I don't want to hang around and try not to miss the beep. I like that I can choose the loaf size, so when I have company I can make a larger loaf, instead of having to make two, and can make smaller loaves the rest of the itme so the bread is always fresh. I read some other reviews that say they have had problems with the bread pan and with ambient temperatures affecting the bread. All I can say is I have had none of those. I have had the machine for about three years and lived in a drafty house on the Canadian border and in a tight modern apartment in Michigan and have used it weekly for much of that time and see no problems. It is a little workhorse that gives consistent results. I recommned this machine highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great bread machine!
I've had this bread machine for about a year and a half. It really does a nice job and is quite easy to use. We use it fairly often, especially with colder weather coming on, whenever a hot, fresh loaf of bread is desired! We've tried several of the recipes in the instruction manual and have enjoyed them all. I noticed one reviewer complained about not being able to order replacement parts. I accidentally tossed my kneading paddle in the trash and was able to quickly reorder one using the number in the manual for $8. The customer service rep was very kind and helpful. I'm planning on buying one of these machines for my parents for Christmas this year and would recommend the Breadman to anyone who is looking for a reasonably priced, quality machine.

1-0 out of 5 stars 3 machines later and still NO bread
Imagine a home with two accomplished cooks. Imagine the convenience of a bread maker. Imagine eight months and three replacement products later. Imagine a Catch-22 between the manufacturer (Salton) and Amazon denying responsibility to refund our money. Imagine our outrage. Imagine the smell of warm rosemary wheat bread with English butter on a lazy Sunday morning. Well, keep imagining... we've got the third in a series of defunct Salton Breadman Ultimate setting on our kitchen counter, useless to us as anything but a paperweight. Spend your $99 USD on cooking classes and enjoy the comfort that comes from proofing your own dough.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great bread machine!
Breadman really makes a great product. I should know since this is the third Breadman I've had. The first two are still in use and being enjoyed by their new owners. I used each machine a lot (1 or more loaves a week for years) but eventually decided to step up to a newer model. This new one is really great.
I don't think the product description really does this product justice. For me there are a lot of improvements in this machine that weren't available when I bought my last Breadman 6 or 7 years ago. In addition to making a horizontal loaf this machine has many other great features such as: a hopper for dispensing nut or raisins (not just a beep to let you know it is time to add them), a pause button, power failure backup, bake only cycle, and the ability to program 5 custom bread cycles. The price is great too.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love making homemade bread again, more than ever!
I love the breadman. The best part is sitting watching tv and barely hearing it make wonderful bread that we will be smelling some time towards the end of the movie. I used to make bread myself. Fresh whole wheat bread and I even made a lot of sourdoughs which I must start up again with this machine. The best part is that you just stand there and watch it. No more work kneading or even wrestling with dough hooks like I used to with my Oster Mixer. It made good bread but it was difficult kneading heavy whole grains plus I had to be there 3 to 4 hours every step of the way - by hand. I have owned this machine now for almost a year. It is very easy to clean and is a high quality product. It also does have a stop/cancel button contrary to the review of a previous person. ... Read more

Yogurt is a great, guilt-free snack for both adults and kids. With this yogurt maker, it's easy to add favorite flavors--including exotic and sweet fruits, rich crunchy nuts, and natural sweeteners--to basic yogurt. Just follow the recipes, supplied by the manufacturer, and a nutritious snack, with very little fat and no preservatives (like most commercial brands), is not too far away. Making yogurt takes from 4 to 10 hours to process, depending on desired tartness of the batch. If you're looking for frozen yogurt, you do have to chill it for 2 hours in the freezer before consumption after it's made. The yogurt can be stored up to one week. --Teresa Simanton ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic and the Best!
I have tried many yogurt makers, this is the best.

The Easiset thick lush delicious yogurt
1. 1 qt. whole milk+1/2 cup alba calcium fortified dry milk( you can use any powdered milk... this is for extra body and calium)
2. Heat in microwave until 175 degrees approx 7 min on High.
(check your microwave of course for shorter or longer time))
3. Cool between 110-115 degrees
4. Scoop some of the warm milk into a clean glass
add, some active yogurt(dannon plain is okay) or add 1 package of Yogourmet Yogurt starter(best starter Ever, at health food store), stir throughly but not viciously!
5. Add the starter mix to large container of cooled milk, stir.
6. Pour milk into Yogurtcantainer that comes w/ set.
7. 4 hours and fantastic Yogurt. Make sure you let it chill, gets thicker...and you won't believe your eyes and taste buds at the thick yummy yogurt!

No additives, sweeteners, strange thickeners. I make every two days, can't keep it in the house, everyone waits for new batch. My husband has colitis and this is saving him!

The price beats all on this appliance!

5-0 out of 5 stars Happy After One Year
I bought this product one year ago based on Amazon reviews and, after some fine tuning of the included directions, routinely make yogurt as I get ready for work--as often as 4 times each week. I heat the milk in the microwave while I feed the cats, then cool the hot liquid in the refrigerator as I shower, and finally mix in the starter yogurt and pop it all in the yogurt maker before I head out the door. I remove the finished product when I come home for lunch. Even if I let it cook all day, I don't find the yogurt to be too tart. Making yogurt with this Salton product is easy. I like the large container size. The yogurt itself tastes great and has a good texture. I've only had two failed batches all year--can't remember why now, but probably my fault. I am buying another Salton Yogurt Maker to give as a gift.

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful little machine!!!
I had a 6 (separate) cup yogurt maker which was difficult to keep clean. The yogurt maker made by Salton is very easy to use and makes perfect yogurt every time! Just follow the instructions and you have nice, wholesome, yogurt with no additives and at a fraction of the cost too. Truly, it is one of the best gadgets I own.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy, Cheap, Reliable!
I have always loved homemade yogurt and absolutety love this machine! I had never bought a yogurt maker due to the high cost and most of them being too big. (I mean, really, can a single person really eat a half gallon by themselves before getting sick of it?) Making yogurt is really easy and some of the other machines out there make it more difficult. Also, this machine is very user friendly, designed simply (low-tech is best) and very practically. It maintains the correct temperature, takes up a minimum of space, cleans up fast, doesn't make too much, and since I use it almost every day, and have for almost a year, I am very impressed with its reliability. What else can I say? If it were a man I would marry it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why pay more for store-bought plain yogurt?
I eat a lot of yogurt. Plain. So why should I shell out so much for store yogurt when making your own is so easy?

Some of the secrets of yogurt to help you be successful:

1. Cleanliness is next to Godliness for any dairy recipe. Bacteria or other microorganisms you are inviting to the party can make off flavors, goopy results.

2. Yogurt is thickened commercially with dry powdered milk to add body to the product. American milk from Holsteins is thin and lacking in protein. Adding dry powder milk puts back in the casein that sets up to make a nice creamy, thick yogurt. Jersey cow milk is higher in fat and protein; if you have access to Jersey milk, then you might not need to add dry powdered milk.

3. If you DON'T SCALD THE MILK (bring to a boil) you will leave in enzymes that will result in a thin, porridge-like yogurt, if you are lucky. If you aren't lucky, the result will be liquid milk but spoiled. So scald the milk.

4. After you scald, take the milk's temperature. It has to be around 80-85 degrees and no more, or the culture you stir in will be killed off and again, you won't get any yogurt. Plain yogurt starter works fine. Make sure it's fresh, however.

I like my yogurt plain or with apple and sunflower seeds stirred in. But feel free to flavor yours with apple butter, jam, fresh berries, honey. Kids like it with whipped strawberries or blueberries and maple syrup. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
I purchased this rice cooker in 1996 and use it at least twice a month. I've cooked all types of rice in it and it always comes out perfect (just a little more water for brown rice). It doesn't have a non-stick finish but if you leave the top on for five minutes after it turns off, the rice at the bottom softens, and when you are finished, soaking the dried rice for 30 minutes will let you clean it just fine. I also put the rice pan in the dishwasher. I will never spend more money on a rice cooker.

1-0 out of 5 stars Learned my lesson
I had one that broke after 2 months, then bought another one that broke within a week. I did some research and it seems to me Tatung brand rice cooker has a reputation of lasting for 10+ years, it's made by the Taiwanese, who should know a thing or two about rice cookers. Take my advice, do NOT buy this piece of junk!

1-0 out of 5 stars Stay away!!
I bought 2 of these and they both died within a week. I returned one and used the other as a lesson learned. It doesn't even make a good paper weight!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Rice Cooking Secret
Other than connect the plug to the cooker in a right way, you have to know how to cook rice as well.

All you have to do is to wash the rice until the water is clear (not milky), then put the same amount of water to the rice (you can check the level of rice and water using cup).

The switch will automatically off after the rice is cooked. For best result, wait for a few minutes after you see all the stream disappear from the nozzle of the cooker.

I notices some of my american friends cook rice using a large amount of water and then drain the rice. This cooker does not work in this way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tasty, Flavorfull Coffee
This time proven percolater produces excellent tasting coffee, fast, dependable and faithful. Mother purchased a Farberware Percolater many years ago. As the word about the hot, tasty coffee the Farberware Percolater faithfully produced month after month at Moms... spread, the whole family was impressed and eventually purchased the small, medium or large percolater. We use the medium size Farberware Percolater for everyday use and the large size for company. The Farberware Percolater not only produces great tasting coffee but also keeps it flavorful and warm, a feature lacking in many coffemakers.

5-0 out of 5 stars 'ol faithful brews a reliable, delicious cup of joe
I've happilly enjoyed Farberware's larger 20-cup electric percolator that is still brewing some wonderful coffee after 10 years. All I had to replace was the electric cord, which petered out after 3 years.

I've had this model for a few months and think that it will also last a long, long time (don't know about the cord, though). This machine looks terrifically retro, is easy to clean and keeps the coffee consistenly hot for hours. After tasting coffee here, you won't go back to your old drip machine.

My advice to you is:

1. Don't overfill the basket with grinds, because it's very easy to make a STRONG cup of coffee with this. We like strong coffee, so this is a good thing.

2. Clean it w/soap & water as soon as you are finished with it to protect the pot. I also clean it out with Dip-It every 6 weeks or so to remove the coffee stains from the inside and make it shiny and new-looking.

3. At most supermarkts you can buy little paper disc filters that sit in the bottom of the jar and keep the smaller grinds from falling into the water. It also filters out alleged carcinogens that are not removed by traditional percolators or coffee presses.

I would actually give this 4.5 stars, because sadly, these newer models are now made in China rather than the Farberware factory in the Bronx.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hot Hot Hot
If you like your coffee strong and piping hot, look no further. I have gone through 5 coffee makers in 4 years (3 drip, 2 thermal carafes) and have not been satisfied until I purchased the percolator. It is very quick, the brew is strong, and the temperature is EXTREMELY hot (which for me is a good thing). The only drawback is the burnt taste of the coffee left in the pot for a second cup, but this is goes with percolator territory and is not singular to Farberware. So get a big mug, have one large cup of coffee, and you're all set.

5-0 out of 5 stars These babies are going to make a comeback!
This back to the basics pot makes FANTASTIC coffee! I could have purchased 3 of these for what I paid for my fancy drip coffee maker with all the bells and whistles! The coffee is hot, flavorful and quick! I'll actually drink less coffee now because it's hot enough for me to slowly sip-- not drink down! I was about to be displeased with my new Nissan thermos, but it wasn't the thermos. It can't make something piping hot if it isn't that way when you put it in there! Now if the pot just had the little glass "thingie" on top, I'd be transported back to the days of my youth!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love It!
We've had our percolator for about 4 years now & use it EVERY DAY! Makes wonderful coffee-we've thrown our old automatic Mr. Coffee away! After 4 years, the power cord has finally gone-but I'm planning a trip to the hardware store to replace it. Even so, I've been pleased with its performace-even if I did have to replace the entire unit, 4 years of constant use is worth it!! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars disappointed
No preheat required. This was the reason I decided on this toaster oven. Fired the unit up at home before I brought it into work. Turned her on and whammo instant heat. I was looking forward to using it the following day. Stayed out late last night too many drinks - not used to that any more. So my plans of cooking a salmon steak turned into a corn dog. Put the dog in the oven that is when I noticed there is no temperature control. There are presets for bakery, potato, broil, etc. But no way to adjust like a regular temperatur control. Four minutes later my dog is black. Will look at directions when I get home - probably return tonight.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Alternative
I agree with the bill sheppard. This does seem like a great alternative to the panasonic version of this toaster. I like the looks of the toastmaster I went with it. I wonder if toastmaster benchmarked panasonic and tried to improve upon the panasonic. Quality is good and it does address the shortcomings people have with the panasonic. Ive had it for a few weeks now and it has done a great job with toast and pizza. Both evenly cooked and faster then a traditional toaster. The lack of a temperature adjustment works out just fine. The temp settings are predetermined for the type of food you are cooking. You just have to adjust the time. I hope the long term reliability of this unit is as good as my first impressions.

5-0 out of 5 stars First impression: looks great!
After getting a kitchen remodel, my wife determined that my old beloved under-cabinet toaster oven had to go, as it just couldn't keep up with the shiny new granite and stainless steel appliances! So I set off to find a new toaster oven and found people absolutely raving about the Panasonic NB-G100P FlashXpress, which cooks by light instead of coils. I didn't care for the look of it, but people have raved so much that I purchased one. Before I had unpacked it I saw the Toastmaster "Lightwave" TLWTOB6, which appears to be brand new and uses the same technology, but looks much nicer, and is about twenty dollars less expensive. I've since put the Toastmaster to use, and assuming I like it will return the Panasonic unopened.

So far I've only cooked toast, but it does a great job - perfectly even. I like the interface - it has a "cool blue" LCD (which is always lit) with a list of the different pre-programmed settings such as toast, broil, defrost, casserole, potato, etc. There is a dial which is used to select desired time, or the brown level for toast. It does not allow selection of temperature at all, however - for all cooking levels except for toast, it uses a timer which defaults to an appropriate setting and can be increased or lowered as desired. This will take some getting used to, but seems reasonable. The cooking light cycles on and off while the oven is in use, and then the oven beeps when finished.

This toaster oven seems to address most of the shortcomings people have noted about the Panasonic. It is larger (and does require moderately more counter space side-to-side), but can hold six slices of toast. It does top brown. The light is not blindingly-bright, as the window is tinted with a fine mesh of black dots but you can clearly see what is being cooked. The wire rack is very solid, as are the other accessories. I can't yet speak for whether the oven heats evenly throughout the interior, but my toast was even front-to-back.

I'll update my review if I find anything I'm unhappy with, but at this point the Lightwave looks like a great alternative to the Panasonic.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed
I have always bought those cheap little ovens that would last for about 6-8 months, so I decided to spend more and get a good quality one.

Well, this was a surprise! I turned on the oven, it worked 5 minutes and then quit.

Very disappointed. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money
I was really excited about this product because I love iced coffee and iced tea and loved the thought of having it ready instantly instead of having to make it warm and wait for it to cool.

Then I used it. Eek. No. The stupid thing guzzles almost 3 trays' worth of ice cubes a pop, and no matter how much coffee or tea you use--at one point in desperation I completely filled the filter with coffee--it comes out so weak it tastes like someone just dipped a crayon in water.

I practically stood on my head trying to get this thing to work, because I really wanted it your money. The "normal" way isn't as convenient, but at least the end result is enjoyable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Where, oh where, has my iced tea gone?
We have this iced tea maker in use daily at our house! Guests and family rave about "my" iced tea. This quick tea maker is always available to make another fresh brewed batch, ready to serve.

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent Iced Tea Maker
While it's true that this tea maker is slow, it's no slower than your average percolator, nor is it any noiser. The parts - the filter basket, the filter basket holder and the lid of the carafe - are easily cleaned in the top rack of the dishwasher, and the carafe goes in the bottom of the dishwasher. No problem. It's true the interior is hard to clean by hand, so you just have to do the same as you would with any coffee maker by running a cleaner or vinegar & water through a brew cycle. (We don't have the directions for this one so that's what we do. It works fine.) It makes great tea and is easy to use. Also, we like it because it's not so large. Recently, we've been looking around for one to give as a gift, but mostly all other tea makers we've seen have a 3 liter carafe. This one is only 2 liters and fits well in the fridge.

1-0 out of 5 stars Forget what (the) reviewer says - don't buy this!
When I used this for the 1st (and only) time, I found it noisyand slow. The pitcher doesn't fit snugly into the well, and when youremove it, instead of turning off the flow of tea (as advertised), it makes it flow heavier (which ends up in a mess). When I tried to clean it I found that a difficult task because the filter cup has ridges from edge to center, every inch all the way around. The reservoir got tea in it, and it's so narrow, you can't get in there with a sponge to clean it. When I tried to rise it out, tea flowed out from somewhere, and went all over the place (if I hadn't tipped it, the tea would have dried inside and ended up moldy). Don't waste your money like I did. Boil water, that's all this does. END ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Too Noisy and Vibrates!
The only thing this stove has going for it is its looks. When it starts to heat up it begins to make noise and vibrates. The noise is so loud that if someone is whispering next to you, you might barely hear them. The noise and vibration, I assume, is coming from the stamped fan. In fact, it vibrated so much the inside pan scraped away clean the teflon coating where it slides in and out of the oven after only a couple of hours use!

I talked to customer support at Salton and they told me its suppose to make noise to show you it's working. Of course, I didn't buy that!

The timer was off by 5 minutes. I don't know if this was done intentionally or not to allow for warm up. (It needs 10 minutes), thus the 5 minute would be the "sweet" spot. None of this is mentioned in the manual, of course. So, it could just be a lousy timer.

The construction of the stove was put together well, but its cookie-cutter stamped construction was obvious all over! In fact, it arrived with the oven door mounted crooked. I simply lifted up the door and with a little up-twist realigned it by "eyeing" it up and amazingly it stayed aligned after that!

Cooking: it cooked a sweet potato very nice. Frozen pizzas and TV dinners didn't fare too well. After following cooking intructions on the boxes, they came out only warm and not piping hot. It looks like the fan in the oven blows very hard and actually helps cool the cooking!!! This is not a true convection with a third heating element inside. It's just a stamped fan circulating hot air around to the inside of the oven.

The other reviews didn't mention the noise. Unless this was a defective unit, I would take the other reviews with a grain of salt.

UP LINE: Handsome, clean, stainless steel looks.
BOTTOM LINE: Too noisy, timer is off, ineffective convection.

5-0 out of 5 stars I don't use regular oven much.
I have used this oven pretty extensively over last year and a half, to the point that I am not using regural oven much anymore. It has taken over most of my cooking duties that are not served by microwave. Unlike some other people who had reviewed it, I have not experienced any mechanical problems. Oven is pretty easy to clean too.

For what I need it, the oven cooks pretty well. The food comes out well cooked, usually in less time than is recommended by the recipe. I wish it was a little bigger, like my previous convection oven from Sharp, but then it is only about $100 whereas the old one was about $300. I don't think I can get another oven in this price range that could be used for nearly the same variety of dishes as this one.

My parents own one of these as well and use it extensively too. They used to own a previous generation of this oven and when it finally broke after a long time, they got this one. And from what they tell me, they are pretty happy with it, so when this oven breaks, they are probably going to get another one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Daily kitchen workhorse
I have an older version of this oven. I've used mine daily for over seven years, for everything from chocolate chip cookies to our Thanksgiving turkey. I haven't used my main oven in years.

It's large enough to accomodate a standard cookie sheet, but just barely, so you have to make sure the "handles" on the side of the sheet don't project out too far. It's better to use a smaller pan, so the fan-driven air can circulate freely.

On the down side, the oven exterior does get quite warm, and it can take a while to preheat (about 15-20 minutes to 400 degrees).

It's difficult for me to call out the features of an item that works so well and reliably that I've come to take it for granted. I'd have a hard time adjusting to cooking without it.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is Terriffic Quaity Timesaver
I've had mine for 6 months now and I think it's a terriffic product. No, it hasn't blown up, disintigrated or failed in any way. It works just like I thought it would. I have it in a home I lease in Florida where I'm usually cooking regularly for a small number of people. Using my full-sized oven does no better job, is much slower and very energy wasteful compared to using this little gem.

The sides do get hot like any spacesaving device does. I imagine you could pay more for an insulated one that would be a super caddy.... but, why? This works just fine.

I thought the final fit/finish wasn't of superior craftmanship but for the price, this large size convection oven has no peer.

I would recommend it to those on a budget or for those Scotch at heart like me.

Thanks toastmaster for a fine quality made oven that fit my budget.... cooks as advertised.... is free from defects.... and is an attractive addition to my kitchen.

Oh, I only wish it came with a cooking basket for frech-fries and veggies etc. This would be a handy addion or accessory that I've been searching for on the net.... but, have not been able to find one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice gift
I selected this item as a company-supplied gift. It was in an online employee catalog.

I'm very happy with it so far. Hey. Free is always better then cheap! (This is not cheap, however). Anyway, it works great and looks great. It's pretty easy to clean too.

Note I use it casually (1-2 times/week). Nice extra heat source. The oven is big enough to help create an extra dish when the kitchen oven and the microwave/convection oven are full for when you have company.

I use it mostly for frozen pizzas and reheating roasted or baked foods. Convection heat is much more desirable than microwave heat for reheating roasted foods like meat and poultry.

Yes. You must expect the surface of a steel oven, especially a toaster oven, to get hot. Otherwise don't get or use one.

I keep mine on a cart in my home office out of the way of toddler's hands. One time, I got creative and used the oven to fire up some left over slices from the St. Pat's day corn beef feast! Nice aroma. Tasty juices came to the surface. Nice ConCall lunch. ...I added a touch of horse radish sauce to the result, and it was a nice surpise. ... Read more

This professional mandoline slicer for slicing and shredding potatoes and other vegetables comes with everything you need: a 4-quart stainless-steel bowl, a plastic storage lid, four interchangeable cutting blade cartridges, and a cutting slide with a safety guard. Just slide in the cartridge you need--thin slice, thick slice, julienne (1/8-inch), or french-fry cutter (1/4-inch)--press the safety guard with sharp prongs onto the end of the vegetable, and slice away. The safety guard rests on side rails over the blade so your hand can't slip, and the entire cutting slide apparatus snaps onto the top of the bowl. The stainless-steel bowl has four rubber grippers underneath so it won't slide while you're slicing. Pop the plastic storage lid on top and put leftovers in the fridge. Every part of the mandoline slicer, including the cutting blades, is dishwasher-safe. Lifetime limited warranty. --Doree Armstrong ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
I bought this thinking I wouldn't have to julienne veggies by hand any more. Ha! The julienne blade shreds so fine I may as well use my grater(which would be a lot safer).

Also, the tips of the julienne blade and the french fry blade are raised above the stationary blade when slotted into place(very dangerous). This then cuts through the top of the veggie not yet sliced, leaving an uneven mess in the bowl when I continue.

All of the inserts stick when inserted and are hard to remove; I ended up covering it with a towel and pulling it up and down really hard(that's an accident waiting to happen).

The slicing inserts work okay if you absolutely must have uniform slices(with firm fresh veg only), but I'll probably go back to using my knife.

The prongs on the handle don't secure all veggies very well and I found myself slicing some vegetables without it(not a good habit to get into).

I like that the bowl comes with a lid, this I'll probably use more than the mandoline, unless I find a recipe that calls for shaved zucchini slices!

3-0 out of 5 stars Too "Gadgety" for me.....
I bought this because a friend said she "loved her mandoline slicer." Well, I've used this 3 times in the last year. It's very large to store in a small kitchen. The large bowl has a fitted lid for convenient storage (cut veggies in the morning, cook in the evening). I also don't really bother with the blade storage unit--I just put everything into the bowl and cover it with the lid, although the black handled cutting blade and the lid do not fit over each other. I ether have to put the cutting blade on top of the lid or leave the lid off.

Like another reviewer, I also had trouble removing the blade from the unit, and worried that I'd slice off my finger. I finally figured it out, though. I julienned zucchini, but got a large tangled mass of green. Carrots were hard to put in the holder (I suppose large carrots would work?). It's not designed to cut veggies lengthwise--I always have trouble with the grip sliding or shredding my veggies before it gets to the cutting blade. Sometimes perfectly matched circles just aren't what I'm looking for in my food.

I like my santoku knife much better. I have less clutter on my prep counter and less stuff to wash. The mandoline might be faster if I got used to it, but I don't mind spending the extra minute to cut veggies by hand.

4-0 out of 5 stars learning to Pay the mandolin was qick and easy
Most of the Mandolins that I have seen were rectanguar and do not have their own stainless steel bowl as this one does.It very easy you simply take one of the cutters from the compact holder where they are kept and simply put it the slot where it goes sliding it forward untill it stops and then make sure the little button on top of it snaps in place it stops the blade sliding back with the veggie you are trying to make perfect lttle slots or slices of for your guests.

We like to take a sweet potatou and make very thin pieces with the steel cutter and quickly stir fry them in a litte olive oil
Like with all "Gadgets'You have to use a litte common sense and if you have an ugly veggie that you are trying to make pretty dish wih then you will have take a medium but very sharp knife but, please handle it safely ,and maybe do a little strightening so the unit will pass through the Mandolin. You can prepair a large or small amount of food very quickly. But Allwys remember when you start getting down to small amounts you must slip on the pusher handle or you will be giving youself a very quick manicure or worse. Everyone who has seen mine in action or eaten the results goes crazy for one-and you cant beat the price!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not sure
Cleans easily and does make uniform cuts after a bit of practice. I found holding the bowl on a table (rather than up on a counter) and pushing down a bit harder on the plunger helps. One thing I would like is the ability to get additional blades for thinner slices, etc. I have not been able to find any for this unit. You are stuck with what came with the unit, but for thinner slices I end up using a knife.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent value
I got this slicer some time ago, used it once, and had the same negative reaction of a lot of the posters here. The blades are viciously sharp and fitting them into place can be tricky. The pronged holder is awkward to use, but don't use it and you risk injury. I shoved it into a cabinet and forgot about it.

Then a few days ago I decided to make scalloped potatoes following instructions in one of Laurie Colwin's books and I didn't want to get out the food processor. This mandoline worked great and now I love it.

Here's my version of the recipe: Peel as many medium-sized russet potatoes as there are people eating this, plus one. Fill the bowl of the mandoline with water, and slice the potatoes using the thick slicer; drain. In a *nonstick* pot, boil the potato slices in a mixture of water and milk to cover (all milk, or milk and cream, makes this richer). Add garlic if you like - I use the pre-minced stuff in the jar. Boil until tender - 10-15 minutes. If you taste them, they should be mostly cooked. Salt to taste. Ladle potatoes with some of the cooking liquid into a casserole and bake in a hot oven (temp doesn't really matter - if you're cooking something else at the same time at anywhere from 350-425 degrees, stick in the potatoes) for 20 minutes (time is not exact either). Then add a topping: I used breadcrumbs (panko actually) sauteed in butter, cooled a bit and mixed with shredded cheese. I topped the potatoes and put it under the broiler for a couple of minutes. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good little Burner
I bought one of these in 2001 and it broke in 2002 but I still consider worthy of another try. It is a compact and good little burner. It wont set any records in heating up times, takes about 10 minutes to boil but it gets the job done.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great for me
I liked the single burner version of this so much that I bought the double burner. I used the single burner as an adjunct to my gas stovetop. It worked consistently well with regular use for the last two and a half years. (It still works fine!) I've had the double version for six months and it is still working like a charm. The range of heat choices is particularly nice. Once you know what works with a particular dish, it becomes pretty foolproof.

It's nice for family gatherings where cook space is limited. Also, the lowest settings are great for buffets.

I was drawn to the design, and it doesn't disappoint. It's very streamline, with smooth cook surfaces unlike the older models with the electric coil exposed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Working for over 2 years
I have had this unit for over 2 years and everything still works just as good as the day I bought it. I use it as my only stove almost daily as I live in a basement apartment. The only problem I have with it is that it takes a while to heat to the point of boiling but once there it stays hot.

1-0 out of 5 stars Large Burner Failed
Large burner failed after about 12 months use. I opened it up the wire between the plug and the resistor had burned. Not only is it broken, it is a fire hazard. I lost all the paperwork that came with it and I probably voided the warranty by opening it. I think I can fix it but I am not going to risk a fire, so I will try another brand.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed
But by the looks of the other reviews here, I guess I did better than most. It took mine 11 months to break. Worked great (slow to heat up, but that's okay), until yesterday when it started to smell and then smoke came pouring out. After reading other comments I can see it's not worth trying to get it fixed. Now I'll need to buy another hotplate, but it definitely won't be a Toastmaster. I will never buy a Toastmaster product again. For the $40 I paid, it should have lasted a lot longer than 11 months. Don't waste your money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice digital timer at a nice price
I just bought 2 of these timers, and both had instructions on how to set it up. It took all of 5 ninutes to get both up and running. I am using them for my lights on my reef aquarium.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great product.BUT needs better manual

2-0 out of 5 stars This will help out people without the manual
I didnt have the manual for this product and was about to toss it. It is that un-intuitive. But.. my co-worker found the manual. This George Foreman combo pack covers multiple kitchen tasks. It all starts with the Jumbo Size Plus Grill. Offering 133 square inches of cooking surface, along with a bun warmer feature, this jumbo-size version of the celebrated George Foreman Lean Mean Fat-Reducing Grilling Machine can grill seven or eight burgers or chicken breasts at once. The electric appliance's appeal lies in its simplicity and countertop convenience--not to mention its fat-fighting ability. The double-sided grill cooks burgers, steaks, chicken, sausage, fish, shrimp, and vegetables top and bottom in minutes. Grill marks not only look appetizing, they contribute caramelized flavor. The bottom grill's deep grooves collect fat, and the grill is sloped so the fat runs off into a dishwasher-safe plastic tray (two included) stationed under the unit's front. Because the grill is nonstick, cleanup is a snap: a quick scrape with a plastic spatula (two included) and a quick wipe with a paper towel or a sponge.

The grill is accompanied by two other handy kitchen appliances. First up is a snazzy toaster, which provides an extra-large slot that’s ideal for toasting bread, English muffins, or bagels of any size. The special toast-warming compartment keeps items warm if they’re not going to be eaten right away (very helpful if you’re toasting a large amount of bread or rolls), and the anti-jam mechanism ensures that nothing gets stuck. Seven browning levels provide a range of toasting options, while the slide out crumb tray makes crumb disposal a breeze. Adding even more convenience, there’s an extra-lift facility for easy removal of toasted items, and a cord wrap that makes storage a snap. This toaster measures 16-1/2 by 5 by 8 inches (length by width by height)

The third member in this sparkling appliance trio is a lightweight and attractive pancake maker. Taking any hassle out of pancake cooking, this machine features non-stick grid plates (which equal easy clean-up), a cool-touch handle, and a practical dual on/off ready lights that lets you know when to pour the pancake dough. Since it makes four traditional pancakes at once, there’s no worry that anyone will be left behind at the breakfast table. The pancake maker measures 13-1/2 by 11-1/2 by 3-1/2 inches (length by width by height), and stands on its end for storing.--Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ten cups worth of simple grinding
We spend mornings together. Evenings are better spent separately, but mornings are when our friendship is the most piqued and perky. At about 6:00 a.m. I awake all haggard and gravel-voiced, not seeing any clear reasons for daylight. My view and the sun both lift more quickly when this coffee grinder is at work.

I like coffee fresh, and carefully prepare it from freezing my beans to using only the heaviest cream and clover honey to sweeten the taste. To have the flavor I prefer most, I grind each pot's beans. Of all the options, the Toastmaster Coffee Grinder is all I need.

When it whirs, it purrs, happy to help me through the day's waking labor. I treat it well, never abusing it with harsh cleansers or hot water.

I have made ten cups of coffee ground from this device. That is probably the limit of the grinding bowl.

I never ask much of this one-speed friend. It turns on when I press the button. It turns off when I release the button. How fine a grind is based on how long it grinds. I only make one kind of coffee, so additional settings are not necessary. It wipes clean with a dry paper towel. Most of you only use a simple brewer, and will be happy with this grinder. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A good 2-3 month investment
After reading some of the reviews for this I was skeptical, but knowing that you always hear more complaints than praise, thought I'd give it a shot. I'm a college student and was looking for an easy, inexpensive way to cook in my dorm. And for the most part, this was perfect.

It's nice and small, so storage wasn't a problem. The first couple times you use it, there's a weird smell like something's burning, but I'll assume that's normal. It doesn't heat very quickly, but once it's heated it takes a while to cool back down. Having it on high then turning down to low doesn't have much of an affect, at least not for a few minutes. But if you're just boiling pasta or heating soup, it's all good. The entire thing gets really hot when cooking, so it has to sit a good 30 minutes or so before you can deal with it again.

But this morning it stopped working. I've had it for about 2 1/2 months, and it worked perfectly up until now. I used it about 2 to 4 times a week. I haven't dunked it in water or anything, it just won't turn on. I just wish it hadn't died right before finals.

All that said, was it worth the investment? Sure. But that's up to you. If you need something for a couple months, this is absolutely perfect, but if you're looking for a long term investment, look elsewhere, or just buy one every few months.

2-0 out of 5 stars poor quality, danger of shock or electrical fire
The Toastmaster 6431 does not have an Underwriters Lab label, which would make anyone hesitate before buying it. The Underwriters Lab endorsement (a "UL" logo) indicates that the electrical product is properly designed and constructed so that it is safe. We found the product online, where there was no info about the UL status of the product.
The first thing that broke was the temperature control. We fixed that by oiling the screw whose in-out motion controls the heat setting.
The more serious problems emerged when the fuse blew. We looked inside and discovered overheated wires with partially-melted insulation. This condition could cause both an electrical shock to the user and an electrical fire that could burn down a house.
Toastmaster makes another hot plate (model TTS1) which does have an Underwriters Lab endorsement. We bought one today, and we hope that it will work safely until after the end of our kitchen remodelling project.

2-0 out of 5 stars Just why does it burn out??
I've loved my little hotplate for 3 months, but it died. Froze the temp control at the time of death. Up until then I was very happy except for trying to boil large pots... never got there, and on frozen stirfry it has a hard time coming back after you add the frozen veggies... but ALL of the reviews are accurate, the high ratings just haven't used it enough times for it to burn out.. looks like anywhere from 50 to 100 uses, depending on how often you turn it all the way up. Highly recommended for a temporary use while on vacation or broken stove... now to try to get some warranty help!

1-0 out of 5 stars Foul Smell
I've had this burner for two months, now. The smell it emits is really bothersome. It's sort of a burning chemical smell. It really never got better with use, although it got a little bit better. But it is still a strong smell which is unacceptable.

The burner takes a long time to heat up. It takes about twenty minutes just to boil water in a 3 qt. saucepan.

On the plus side, it is a good looking burner. The new rubber top with concentric rings is something I've never seen before. Cleanup is easy.

If I could do it all over again, I would never buy this. I thought I was buying one of those solid cooktops that is metallic. Instead, there is this rubber type surface which emits a chemical smell on every use.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice for a dorm
My roommate and I have had this burner for about a month, and we love it. It's a great item to add to our dorm contraband, since technically, we probably are not supposed to have it here. It cooks well, even though as someone else pointed out, it takes a while to heat up. It also has a funny smell sometimes, but that might be normal. It's a great size and fits really well under my bed. I consider it a necessity for my life, because one simply cannot live on college food! In fact, we call one of our dining options, Buckeye Express, "Buck Yuck". It's great to be able to have more food options, as well as healthier food options. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Toastmaster almost had a good oven
The oven itself was everything I was looking for in a toaster oven. However, Toastmaster should not have rolled this one out by skipping on the timer programming. When you set a preset time and the oven beeps to let you know it has presetted, you have to stop the oven and reenter the temperature and then you enter the cook time. You cannot enter a cooktime after the unit has achieved the programmed temperature. After you enter the cook time, the unit automatically subtracts a minute from the entered time (each and every time, this is not intermittent) The second problem is that the preset time for bake is 1 HOUR! You have to press the down arrow button and decrease the time down to minutes everytime you have something to bake. They should have set the programming so that it could be set from 0 minutes rather than from 60 minutes. The company almost had a really good oven if it weren't for the timer problems. However, food I managed to cook after minutes of frustrating entry, ended up just fine. I guess this toaster project was a product on some manager's outstanding project list and the due date for release to production came up too soon. As usual, management would rather look good by releasing a project than fix problems before rolling out a project. And again as usual, the customers pay the price. If Toastmaster is going to produce products in this manner then they should stick to plain vanilla toasters OR hire project managers who can do quality work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little workhorse! continued
I looked at all the reviews online and this toaster oven is only 1 of 2 that had the best reviews! The other one was way more plus it was not as big interior wise as the Toastmaster Convection Oven. This little machine has met my expectations as for it's functionality goes. Toast is really good in this machine. It takes about 4 1/2 minutes to make good toast but hey that is better than more expensive models at 15 minutes. It cooks it nice, even and soft in the middle. The key is to turn down the temperture to 140 and use only the lightest setting. I cooked a chicken the other day on the convection mode and it really was tender and juicy. The instructions say a 6 pound chicken can be cooked as well and I believe that as the 3 1/2 pound bird I was cooking had plenty of room in there. I am also impressed with the 12 inch pizza capabilties. I have made good pizzas. How many toaster ovens can do that? Not many!

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE MINE!!!!
I love my toastmaster toaster oven. I have experienced absolutely no problems whatsoever with my oven. I bake all sorts of things in it. It does it perfect every time. Yes, it does get hot on the outside and yes the little window does fog up a little but in the whole scheme of things, does it really matter. Just like the oven door gets hot on a regular oven, so does this entire product. You will learn after you touch it once or leave something on there and it melts. And just like everything out there these days and even back a long time ago, people and computers make these products and people and computers make mistakes too. So if you have had a bad product by any company out there and not just this one or several bad products from the same company then you got the bad pick of the litter and I am sorry for you. And the guy that had his black & Decker for 15+ years and then retired it to buy a new one and decided not to buy a toastmaster just b/c of the reviews did not do his homework very well b/c B/D makes mistakes too. And you think that your complaint to the company will be the first time that they have heard about this problem? I do not think so. It will all just be redundant information. All you can do is accept the fact that someone made a mistake, get your money back, and simply move on. Those who have not sinned or EVER made a mistake can by all means cast the first stone. I love my machine. Have a pleasant day.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great compact oven that does EVERYTHING!
First, the size of this baby is great. It is just big enough for whatever you need to do...(well, anything short of making Thanksgiving turkey!) But it's small enough where it does not take up too much space. Also, it looks very sleek with the black and stainless steel look (which matches our appliances). Second, the functions on this toaster is better than any of the other ones on the market. Trust me, I've tried Delonghi models double this price, Black and Decker, Oster, etc. This oven is very verstile...I can bake cookies, brownies, etc and no one can tell it's from a toaster oven. I've done casseroles and small roasts to perfection. It's really a dream come true for small families who don't want to break out thier regular oven on a hot summer day or don't want to waste all the energy. We have had this oven for 1 year now, which was one of our wedding registry gifts. It has worked flawlessly since we first used it (knock on wood) and I have no complaints. We haven't had anything break, shatter or catch fire. For the people who have toaster ovens that catch fire or get too hot...sometimes it's the user and not the machine...don't put things in the oven that will touch the heating elements! Also, if you won't touch a hot pan on a stove without gloves, then don't touch a hot oven! It's really common sense. As with the toasting issues...the key to using this oven is knowing where to put the shelf. If you put the shelf too low, the bottom of the toast will burn. If you put it too high, the top of the toast will burn. (DUH.) But if the spacing is about even, this oven will toast things perfectly. And it only takes 5 seconds to adjust the shelves for perfect toast...really, it's not a big deal. Also, the the convection function is great when I have a casserole or something that is fairly dense. It really helps the heat distribute evenly. But for less dense items, I find that the convection function will dry out the food. But all in all, this is the best toaster oven I have ever used and I've probably gone through 4 or 5 in the past decade or so ranging from a $20 Oster to a $200 Delonghi.

1-0 out of 5 stars a hazard
We got this toaster oven in March as a present. I had been using it for about 4 months and it was working great until one day when the glass door decided to shatter. I thought perhaps this was a fluke or ours was defective, until my father in law checked the internet and found that this was a rather frequent occurence with toastmaster toaster ovens, we also found that they tend to catch on fire. We called toastmaster and all they would do is send us another one, would you want another exploding toaster oven. This product should be taken off the market. ... Read more
