5-0 out of 5 stars Great saucepan
Though I admit to using it primarily for making hot chocolate (pouring spout is great), it works for other things as well.

You have to adjust your cooking style for sauces if you're not used to iron.It heats and cools slowly (high mass, lower thermal conductivity) but very evenly. The enamel coating is great, so you don't have to worry about any metals getting into your sauces.I'd recommend only using wooden or silicone utensils in it though, as metal can scratch the enamel.

I use this exclusively for stovetop, so the wooden handle is fine for me.But if you prefer a larger saucepan, or something you can place in oven, look for other Le Creuset saucepans with greater capacity and heat rated or iron handles. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Matte Black is not smooth
I love Le Creuset cookware, but I was not happy with the Matte Black finish.I assumed the matte finish would be on the outside of the pot- but it is on the inside as well.I even called Le Creuset support about it because I thought it was a defect.

If you read on Le Creuset's site, they go into detail how the pots are cast and then carefully sanded before being enamled.

However, this pot feels like it was just cast and then painted. It is *coarse*- I haven't used it yet, but I think it will be harder to clean, and I suspect not as durable in the long run.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Love of my Kitchen
This is the best thing I ever had in my kitchen.Although it is relatively costly, every penny is worth paying for this beautiful cast iron pot.It is the cook's best friend, second to none. One of the things I love in Le Crueset products is that you could use it from the freezer to oven, then straight to the dining table where you could proudly show it off to your guests due to its elegantly classic design.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most useful pot in my kitchen-too bad its French
This really is the best the best gift I've received in years. I can brown a chicken in olive oil on my gas burner then transfer it directly to the oven for roasting. Once finished the enamel cleans easier then just about anything else I've seen.

To heck with Al Clad and the rest.

This is the one piece that will never leave my kitchen!

5-0 out of 5 stars A versitle pot
I have used this pot for making soups, stews, and sauces. But I also use it to make a whole chicken in the oven, with the lid on.I usually make a 3-4 lb. chicken. The chicken comes out perfect after about an hour and a half. (at 375)It's moist and juicy and wonderful, with little effort.
This is the only Le Creuset I own.I bought it because I wanted a pot I could use for many dishes. So far I have been very happy with it.I use it several nights a week.

The only down side, is not being able to use metal in it.But that's the only negative I can think of.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chicken soup with rice
Like all le Creuset pots, this soup pot has awesome heat retention and a heavy lid, making it excellent for cooking rice, slow-braising meats, or gently simmering heavy sauces.Like the other le Creuset wok-shaped pots (the 4.5 qt soup and the 7.5 qt boullibase), this pot is excellent for carmelizing onions and peppers at the beginning of a recipe, reduces liquids quickly, and for thin soups is almost self-stirring.

The first drawback to this pot is its small size. The useful volume is about the same as that half-gallon container in your fridge. (OK to make lunch for two or rice for five, but way too small for a casserole). The second drawback is its enamel coating.I usually rave about the le Creuset enamel, because it soaks clean without scrubbing, and because - unlike stainless - it's totally non-reactive.But with a pot this size and shape it would be nice to be able to wisk a sauce with a wire wisk, without worrying about scratching, or to use the pot for deep-frying, without worrying about destroying the enamel.

I still use (and adore) the pot, but if you're only buying one le Creuset to test out the line, buy the 4.5 quart soup pot, not this smaller version. And if you're looking for a truly all-purpose small soup pot, consider the Kitchenaid 2.5 quart saucier instead. ... Read more

Le Creuset's cast-iron 2-in-1 pan (known as a marmitout) is a versatile pieceof cookware suitable for any kitchen. The base, which serves as a saucepan, and the lid, which doubles as a nonstick omelet pan, are beautifully finished in double-coatedporcelain enamel and can be used on the stove, under the broiler, and in the oven. Thesaucepan holds 3 quarts and measures 10-1/4 inches across, and the lid/omelet panmeasures approximately 9-3/4 inches across. Both pans feature a metal handle and thesaucepan's small helper handle makes lifting it from the oven or stovetop an easier task.Heatproof gloves or a dry cloth are required to lift these pans because the metal handlesget hot. Wooden, plastic, and nylon tools should be used, and an instruction manual withrecipes is included. Like all Le Creuset cast-iron cookware, the 2-in-1-pan is made inFrance using a one-of-a-kind mold that ensures each piece's uniqueness and carries alifetime warranty against defects. --Rhonda Langdon ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A great omelet pan topping off a monster saucepan
I got my first Le Creuset cookware in 1978. ... It turned out to be one of my better investments, as I still use all the pieces today. I now have 3 French ovens, 5 covered saucepans, 3 skillets, 1 oval au gratin, & 1 cheese fondue set, all in flame. These cast iron utensils are virtually indestructible, except for a few minor dings in the outer enamel. They cook very evenly, given the cast iron, making me a possibly better than average cook (they're one of my unfair advantages). My only problems with the cookware are the heavy weight ...

My newest Le Creuset acquisition is the 3-qt multi 2-in-1 pan with 9&1/2" nonstick omelette cover. I never had a good omelet pan before, & that's what initially caught my eye. I was about to buy just that, but then I noticed that you could also get it as a top to the 3-qt 2-in-1, achieving a very large covered saucepan in the process, so I went for it. I can't say enough good things about the omelet pan. I now make professional 2- & 3-egg omelets stuffed with goodies. The nonstick coating really works & is quite tough (as I would expect with Le Creuset). Combine it with the bottom of the pan, & you have a saucepan that's as big or bigger than a couple of my French ovens, & you can use it on the stovetop or in the oven. I would definitely advise getting the combination for the bigger bang for the buck. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for everyday use!
I adore this saucepan! I use it to make oatmeal, heat up soups, boil a single serving of pasta and prepare various sauces. Le Creuset pans tend to be heavy because of the cast iron, but this saucepan is easy to hold and carry. The sides are designed to help you pour liquids with no mess. The ultimate test for me was my homemade chocolate frosting. After melting semi-sweet chocolate chips into a heated mixture of sugar, milk and butter, I pour the hot frosting over my chocolate cherry cake. This saucepan made pouring and even spreading a breeze! Don't let the size (1 1/4-quart) fool you. It will hold quite a bit. And clean-up is so easy.

If you are looking for the perfect little pan that will last a lifetime - look no further. Le Creuset pieces can be written into your will!

5-0 out of 5 stars 1-1/4-Quart Precision Pour Saucepan with Cover
You get so many benefits from high quality Le Crreuset products. Great heat distribution from all sources, gas, electric,.The double enamel surface keeps acidic foods from reacting and is very durable. The pots and pans come in beautiful colors. I enjoy a mix of the colors for my set. This saucepan offers the benefit of a spout to precisely pour contents.
Be aware these are HEAVY, so you also get a great upper body workout to boot

3-0 out of 5 stars This is one "hefty" saucepan
A great addition to your Le Creuset collection but be aware, this saucepan is rugged and heavy and requires both hands to manipulate its contents to the end destination.

5-0 out of 5 stars absolutely perfect
It is a joy to make sauce with this little pot.Only the lowest flame is needed. The handle stays nice and cool to the touch too.

5-0 out of 5 stars My newest favorite
I LOVE LeCreuset and Scanpan!LeCreuset can't be beat for cooking anything slowly and gently, and this is my newest favorite. The absolute BEST for making "real" oatmeal and rice.Very forgiving--just doesn't burn, and extremely easy to clean.Do any of you share the memory of trying to make oatmeal in one of those thin stainless pans with the copper bottom? What a mess!I gave in to instant. Not any more. Now I make the "real" nutty-flavored stuff! What a difference.Other pieces of LeCreuset can't be beat for delicate scrambled eggs, tender braised chicken, succulent roasts, and homey slow-cooked stews.BTW, Scanpan can't be beat for making anything that likes high heat and metal utensils, like stir fry and grilled meats.LeCreuset and Scanpan are complementary--they cook and clean entirely differently and lend themselves to different kinds of foods and cooking methods. This pan is one of the basic "must haves."For small tasks, it has all of the advantages of LeCreuset plus neat pouring and a comfortably designed stay-cool handle. ... The mouth of this gently rounded pot measures 9 inches across, while its flat bottom is only 4 inches, allowing you to use the small burner on your stove for a relatively big pot: the wide surface area will speed any soup or stock reduction you have in mind. You can also use this soup pot in the oven; loop handles help you carry and lift even the heaviest casserole. 5-0 out of 5 stars Functional and High- Quality at a Terrific Price
Le Creuset's 2 5/8-Quart Soup Pot is a wonderful addition to my kitchen. The pot is attractive, and cooks well. It is designed to fit the small burner on our ranges, so it doesn't take up lots of space when cooking. The pot works best when making modest sized servings of soups or stews which fits my family's needs perfectly. This is the first Le Creuset item I've purchased, and I couldn't be happier.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Cooking Pot
My wife loves this cookware. It keeps the heat very well and it is excellent at browning meat (as opposed to burning the meat). She also loves that it cooks the food evenly, which other pots have not done well (She has tried teflon and copper pots and they do not do a good job in this area). She heartily recommends this product.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for slow cooking
I've used my LeCreuset for many years and find it excellent for making dishes that require long slow cooking because of its ability to keep an even temperature w/o hotspots. Although I confess a bias towards unenamaled cast iron pots, they can't be used for acidic dishes such as tomato sauces. When I cook acidic foods, I happily rely upon my LeCreuset pans for good results.

My only reason for not giving this product 5 stars is that the enamel has a small susceptability to chipping. This is a minor annoyance and shouldn't discourage anyone.

Last I agree with another reviewer who said this brand it the best. Imitiations I have used have not performed as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Soup Pot
I recently purchased this pan and am very pleased with it. The Flame finish is as gorgeous as ever, but more importantly, the pan is of unsurpassable quality. Just be careful the first time you use it, you'll be surprised by how well it distributes heat. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of my Le Creuset saucepans.
I got my first Le Creuset cookware in 1978. It was my college graduation week, & I was relaxing on the lawn reading the Sunday Boston Globe. I saw an ad for a Le Creuset starter set (French oven + 2 covered saucepans + skillet) for a very low price, so I decided to go for it since I was about to be out of the dorm living on my own. That purchase turned out to be one of my best investments ever, as I still use all the pieces today. I now have 3 French ovens, 5 covered saucepans, 3 skillets, 1 oval au gratin, 1 multi 2-in-1 pan with nonstick omelette cover, 1 rectangular baking pan, & 1 cheese fondue set, all in flame. These cast iron utensils are virtually indestructible, except for a few minor dings in the outer enamel. They cook very evenly, given the cast iron, making me a possibly better than average cook (they're one of my unfair advantages). My only problem with the cookware is the heavy weight, but that comes with the territory with cast iron utensils. I guess I'll have to get someone else to lift the pots when I'm old & decrepit. I know they'll outlive me!

My most recent saucepan acquisition is the 1 1/2-qt Windsor, & it has become my favorite. It does everything the other Le Creuset cast iron saucepans do. However, the tall sloping sides make it more difficult to spill, especially when stirring sauces. It is definitely my best saucepan for making sauces & gravies. I also prefer it for making rice & cooked cereals such as grits, cream of wheat, & oatmeal. I only wish it came in more sizes.

Don't be put off by the high price of Le Creuset pots & pans. In the long run, they're a bargain because of their long life. I intend to pass mine down to my sons. Bon appetit!

5-0 out of 5 stars wouldn't recommend it for noodles...but....
I just received this pan as an engagement gift and already love it. In fact, in the two days i've been home from vacation (where i got the gift) i've used it twice! the first time i decided to boil chuka soba (curly japenese noodles, 5ounces)-- it was effective, because the water boiled pretty quickly and stayed a good temperature...but i let a couple noodles get stuck to the bottom and that was nervewracking because i had to scrub a little more than i wanted to get them off my brand new pot. last night i made some caramel sauce and this is where this pan really showed it's potential... the even heat allowed the sauce to be creamy and consistent--very yummy. this cleaned up like a dream.

i also have the red heart casserole and have been enjoying it for about a year. the quality is great and the colors are SO beautiful- you just can't see it on the web...if i didn't share a kitchen i'd keep the dishes displayed. my next two acquisitions from this line will hopefully be the french oven and the stockpot. great products! ... Amazon.com Review

Beautiful enough for the table, durable enough to outlive its lifetime warranty against defects, this heavy 2-quart covered saucepan is made of cast iron clad in two coats of Le Creuset's famous hard enamel. Because cast iron is unexcelled for heat distribution and retention and enamel is impervious to acids and odors, the pan cooks food evenly and gently without hot spots and can be used for marinating, as well as for sautéing and even baking. It goes safely on any stovetop, including induction stoves. The pan's heavy,tight-fitting lid has a synthetic knob that is ovenproof to 450 degrees F, so the pan can be used for braising in the oven. Like all Le Creuset cast-iron cookware, the pan--colored in Le Creuset's famous neon orange--is made in France using a one-of-a-kind mold that ensures each piece's uniqueness. --Fred Brack ...
