2-0 out of 5 stars singer 5050 sewing machines
when i first saw this machine i thought it to be the best in its price range. it offered lots of features like the four step button hole , 52 stitich functions etc. the day i brought home my first new machine , the bobbin case was loose and so the machine wasn't working. i returned it and exchanged it for another one and this time the stitch selector function wasn't working..i was really dissappointed with both the experiences.i do not recommend buying this machine without first checking if all the functions are working..i think it would be best to buy refurbished ones as they are repaired and factory tested and seem to be doing well. i bought my machine from walmart and they exchanged it without any fuss and i was glad i bought it there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Mid-Range Sewing Machine
The Singer 5050 provides an excellent mid-range sewing machine at a low-end price.

Although not automatically threading like many top-of-the-line machines, the 5050 is incredibly easy to thread--moreso than even the underpowered little handheld stitchers advertised on TV. The thread tension and stitch widths are easily adjustable, providing for accurate, strong seams that don't snag or snap the thread during sewing.

The 5050 includes 50 different stitch functions (made from 32 stitches), can do 4-step buttonholes with ease, and can be used to do darning, embroidery, and all manner of decorative stitches.

Accessories included are a second pattern module (for an alternate 25 stitch functions), zipper, button, blindstitch, and special-purpose presser feet, an assortment of needles, a friction-free plate for embroidery, and spare bobbins. The feet simply snap on and off for quick changes.

The machine also can do free-arm sewing for easy cuff and hem finishes, is controlled electronically via a foot switch for excellent speed control, and is all-around one of the most excellent machines in its price range. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A cute, yet intelligent little working bunny
This is my first sewing machine after reading on tons of reviews on different makes and brands. I settled with a Singer because my mother has several old ones and it has a reputable name.

I was so excited and surprised how easy the manual was and I was sewing straight stitches and even some of the fancy stitches in less than 30 minutes. I love the size of the machine, it's relatively quiet, and it's just a cute little thing!! Bought it on Amazon for $169 about a month ago, surprised to see it now has an even further reduced price of $129. Simply amazing.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love it!!!
This is the easiest machine to use. I had an old Singer that my grandmother gave me (ancient!) and ended up throwing it away because I couldn't figure out how to load the bottom bobbin. With this machine I was ready to sew in a matter of minutes. Includes a great user manual (for those of you that, like me, aren't that well versed at sewing). Not only is it easy to set up but it is self guiding - it virtually sews for you.

Great machine at a great price!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little machine, but...
This is a very good machine for a great price -- it's easy to thread, runs smoothly and quietly. It should be known, however, that: filling the bobin requires you to take out the bobbin and thread it on top of the machine... the overall dimensions of the machine are small -- there is not much room "inside" for a lot of material. It sews well but not at top speed. The removable piece in front of the sewing plate is a little flimsy. These may be necessary compromises for all that is good about this machine.

4-0 out of 5 stars Singer Featherweight 132Q
I recently acquired a used Singer Featherweight 132Q which was only used twice prior to my purchase. Although I like that it is lightweight and easy to use, I found it to be very noisy. I do not know if this is typical of the machine, but I would prefer it to be quieter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Machine for the Price!
I purchased this machine specifically for the doll-making part of my studio work and it has become my favorite machine for most projects, from historic costumes to quilt piecing. It required initial adjustment to the bobbin tension, which was way too tight, but has held up beautifully to heavy use. Handles fine fabrics and denim equally well. A nice little workhorse for an excellent price! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

When Isaac Singer invented his first sewing machine in Boston in 1850, little did he foresee the range of home machines available today. Model 6038 offers just the right amount of bells and whistles to satisfy advanced sewers but not scare away novices. Pleasingly rounded in form, the free-arm design machine offers 46 stitch functions, 19 of which are built-in, with stitch width and length selectors, push-button reverse, and an extra-wide zigzag capability (6 mm). Other conveniences include an automatic one-step buttonhole system, top drop-in bobbin, automatic needle threader and easy threading system, 3-position needle selector, and twin needle capability. Six snap-on presser feet are included: all-purpose, buttonhole, button, zipper, zigzag, and blind stitch hem. Accessories can be stored in the machine and include three bobbins, seven needles, quilting guide, screwdriver, lint brush, oil bottle, and various extra parts. The machine features a built-in sewing light and carry handle. In addition to the comprehensive owner’s manual, an instructional video is included which certainly makes learning the threads easier. Singer covers the sewing machine with a 25-year mechanical warranty and two-year electrical warranty. --Ann Bieri ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use and afforadable too!
I have been sewing on a Brother sewing machine for 13 years and decided I needed a new one. I'm so glad I got this one. It's metal construction makes it very durable, and the plastic outer shell makes it very attractive. I've been a stay-at-home mom for 14 years and supplement our income by making curtains and doing repairs, so I needed a new machine. This one is much faster than my old machine and has more power for sewing over those blue jean seams that are such a pain. I had no trouble with the needle threader or any of the other features and the video was very helpful in introducing me to my new machine. I am looking forward to making my daughters' Easter dresses on my new machine! I have to admit, some of the other reviews made me a little nervous, but I'm glad I bought this machine anyway. I think most of the complaints come from user error and impatience. I recommend this machine highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars First machine defective; second excellent!
The first machine that I recieved was defective. Singer felt that it was either a defective motor or a defective foot control pedal. Amazon quickly replaced it at no cost to me. The second machine was wonderful. I watched the video but found the instruction manual to provide better instructions on threading the machine. The customer service representative at Singer said that many people call them with threading issues on this machine. If you follow the instruction manual you shouldn't have a problem. The features seemed quite easy to use. I tried out most of the stitches and they looked great. No tension problems. I used the button hole foot within an hour of opening the box and after a few adjustments had a perfect button hole. After watching the video I decided to try freehand monogramming. They recommend a hoop to stabilize the fabric. I didn't feel like hunting one down so I tried it without. I was absolutely amazed to find that I was able to produce beautiful professional looking script monograms quickly. Now all of the neighbor kids want one. Based on my experience with this machine I would highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars I am so happy with my new Singer!
I can not sing the praises of my Singer 6038 loud enough. While I've been sewing for years, this is the first machine I've purchased that wasn't second hand. So I did quite a bit of research and read lots of reviews to find a machine that would be easy to learn and could sew delicates and heavier fabrics. The Singer 6038 won out as the best machine in my price range and I am super happy with it. This machine is very easy to use, easy to thread, and has so many great stitches to chose from. It's also very light, which is a bonus for those of us who don't have dedicated sewing areas and have to pick up and store their machines frequently.

My absolute favorite feature of my new Singer is the one step button hole feature. It is amazing! I have never been able to do a good button hole and would go so far as to pick out buttonless patterns, but no more! With my new Singer, I am able to do near perfect (will be completely perfect with more practice) button holes.

And I nearly forgot to mention how cute this machine is!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent sewing machine!
I am very happy with my new machine. It's the first new sewing machine I've had in 42 years, and it is just as good as my trusty, and wonderful, old Singer "portable" machine. It is even more lightweight, probably because of the outside plastic case. I find it to be very simple to use. The automatic threader works beautifully, and is a great feature. The machine was easy to learn to use by watching the video and reading quickly through the instruction booklet. My only complaint is minor: the bobbin does not fill up more than half way before it automatically stops. I've learned to fill up two bobbins at a time, just because they seem to run out quickly while I do my machine quilting. I've made several quilted tote bags and one baby quilt so far, and it has been excellent for those jobs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Deal
I am a novice who bought this machine for my sewing class. It had many features that are hard to find in a machine under $200, with free shipping! Some of my favorite features are the top-drop in bobbin, automatic needle threader, and most importantly the one step button hole. There are lots of different stitches too, with horizontal thread delivery. Threading the machine and bobbin are very easy, and if you have trouble, the video is simple and easy to understand. I highly recommend this machine for anyone who wants a simple machine with lots of features. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Very dissapointing
The first one I received has a defective bobbin winder, it only wound the bottom half of the bobbin. When I called Singer directly they suggested I hold the thread up with my fingers...
They did replace it but the second one is defective as well. The reverse lever that stalls after reversing causing you to release and then re-apply pressure is a pain. It bunches up any material thicker than simple cottons. The light is worthless. My machine sounds like grinding gears and the delay after releasing foot pedal is very annoying.... Would not recommend this machine at all. I have tried to return for refund but singer does not give any refunds... so beware

4-0 out of 5 stars A beginners opinion
I am a new sewer, and I bought this machine a few months ago. It had the features my mother and mother-in-law suggested, so I gave it a shot. I am really enjoying the process of learning to sew, and I feel this machine desearves a lot of the credit. It has auto tention so you don't have to worry about finding the tention, which I have heard is very difficult, especially for a beginner. It has sewing speed control, which lets me set the speed I want so I don't accidently go faster then I would like. I was always told that botton holes are really hard to do. But once I figured out how to set the machine for it, button holes are actually fun for me. I like the auto bobbin winder, and the option to do auto needle threading too. The only problem I had was with the instruction manual. The directions are not always the clearest, like with the botton hole set up. I would also have liked it to go into more detail with the purpose of different feet, like the satin stitch foot, and tell you what stich works best with it. So if you are a beginner, then I would suggest buying a how to sew book with this machine. Personally I am glad I got mine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Machine
I LOVE this machine. I have another machine that works very well but could not pass up the deal I got for this machine.

If you are looking for a mechanical only machine this machine is great. It is very quiet compare to other machines in under $500 range. The self threader works great and really helps prevent eye strain trying to find that needle hole. The one button hole step w/foot (included) is a great time saver. Know more wondering if you got the hole big enough or if it was too small. I really like the needle speed control, especially with fine decorative stitching, on tiny clothes. The telescoping thread holder was very handy also, when using the twin needles.
I have had the machine for 3 weeks and have made several items all ready: 3 fleece jackets, Formal Dress, Purse, Pants, and 4 pillows. I did not have one problem, all stitching was straight and even.
The drop feed feature is great also, embroidery is so much easier without having to place a cover over the feed dogs.

What needs improvement:
The bobbin cover must be lifted off, I prefer the slide back cover instead.

Other then that, machine works great and I would tell anyone looking for a machine to learn on or replace another machine, this one will make you happy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Big Disappointment
I recently broke a gear on my 28 yr old Singer Touch&Sew and decide to replace it with this model based on the features advertised and the editorial review. [no customer reviews available] What a disappointment.
Immediately noticeable is the poor lighting. The light shines on the left side of the thread plate, not on the stitching, and is made worse by a shadow from the auto needle threader.
Threading was easy but thread slips easily and frequently from the thread guide near the needle. I did not try the needle threader. I have been used to a self winding bobbin so winding the bobbin was annoying but not difficult. The bobbin cover is clear and must be lifted off instead of sliding out of the way,and is easily misplaced. The machine runs smoothly and quietly, but I am comparing it to a 28 yr old machine. Stitches are flat and even. Reverse stitching speed is slow only and you must release the foot pedal completely before going forward. this may be a good feature for a novice, but I found it to be tedious an time consuming. The feed on reverse is poor causing bunching.
Another annoying feature is the needle rising whenever you stop. You must push a button to lower the needle if you want to turn the fabric. These features really disturb the "flow" of your project. My last disappointment was the rolled hem pressor foot. The rolled edge is so far from the feed you must advance the fabric about an inch and a half unhemmed in order to stitch. I do not recommend this machine. I plan to return it and get my Touch& Sew repaired. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY PLEASED
I've had this machine for over a year and have found nothing bad to say about it. I'm an avid quilter and have turned out many beautiful projects with this machine in the past year. I use this machine everyday and have had no problems with it that weren't associated with user error. I've recently upgraded to another machine with more stitches and functions and it's a Singer too! I've researched other higher priced machines and have found that Singer is well worth the money. Even though I have a new one I'll still be keeping this one to use. I'm very pleased with Singer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Question
I currently have a singer machine, it is very old...it was my great aunt's(im only a teenager. It had not been used until i took up sewing a few months ago. it was fine until it started doing that loopy thing and my grandma tryed to fix it but it was too hard for her to turn the screw in the bobbin thing. So now i am wondering, first of all whether i should spend the money on a new machine or just get mine serviced and whether the new plastic machines are as sturdy as the old ones because to me it doesn't seem like they would be. please help me make a decision.:)

5-0 out of 5 stars A workhorse
I got this machine about a year ago & I love it. It sews anything I try to feed it. I don't do a lot of light fabrics like laces and chiffon but anything from light cotton to mending my husbands work overalls just is not a problem with this Singer machine. I hope to start more actual sewing and I think this machine will do fine for now. If I outgrow it though you better believe I am going to go back to a Singer.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love it!
I have an older model of this machine. I have NEVER had to service it in the 14 yrs I have had it. It still sews wonderfully. For the lady with the loopy thread you need to adjust your bobbin tension. I highly recommend this machine. I have made costumes, quilts, dresses, curtains and much more with mine.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't trust Singer
I agree...don't trust Singer. My machine never sews a good stitch and the bobin continuously falls out it's case causing huge loops in my stitching. I contacted them and got a standard e-mail- they didn't address the issue at all and didn't offer a suggestion or solution. $199 down the tubes! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars kay -experienced sewer
bought this machine from Wallmart when my old serger broke in the middle of sewing a project. Did not read any reviews until after I had sewn on it. I found it excellent, and much less in price than I had expected to pay. I bought my first serger in the 70's a Juki and it was a devil to thread - traded it in . for a MyLock in about 85 - neither of them had differential feed . I like this one lot and think it is a good value .

2-0 out of 5 stars I would not buy this machine if I had it to do over
Two stars because it does serge all right.
BUT... it's a bizarre model that I can't find needles for. I've been to my local Singer dealer, manual in hand, to try to get him to order needles for it. Been on the phone to Singer's 1-800 number a half dozen times getting part numbers and numbers of service centers from New York to Michigan. One service center said "we don't sell that machine. why would we stock parts for it."

In fairness, after enough calls the 1-800 number said they'd send me a "sample pack" of two needles... which hardly gives me a lot of confidence as to what I'll do some months down the line.

And the New York place said they'd look into it and phone me back in a few days.

But folks, my time is too valuable to spend chasing around like this.

So... I'd recommend sticking with another brand, unless making frustrating phone calls is one of your particular hobbies.... ... Read more

When Isaac Singer invented his first sewing machine in 1850, little did he foresee the range of home machines available today. An embroiderer’s dream, the electronic Singer Futura employs the user’s personal computer to transmit dozens of embroidery designs from the internet, a CD, or a floppy disk onto a range of fabrics. A step-by-step tutorial gets the user started, and additional online customer support is also available.

Personal computer requirements for the Futura are as follows: Windows operating system 98, NT, 2000, ME, or XP; 64 MB RAM; CD-ROM drive; at least 500 MB (more is recommended) of available hard disk space; color standard VGA adapter; and a Microsoft compatible mouse. The machine features 80 stitch functions, a built-in needle threader, two styles of one-step buttonholes, programmable up/down needle for precision pivoting at corners and curves, drop-feed for freehand stippling and button sewing, and extra piercing power for heavyweight fabrics. The keypad on the front of the machine allows easy one-touch pattern selection and mirror-imaging of designs. Included with the Futura are two embroidery hoops: large (4-1/2 by 6-3/4 inches) and small (3-1/8 by 4-3/4 inches); and a bonus embroidery package featuring 60 built-in designs, including 2 fonts, plus another 60 bonus designs. It is the first sewing and embroidery machine that uses a personal computer to power the embroidery features. Futura offers the best features of electronic sewing machines and embroidery machines at a fraction of the cost. Traditionally, higher priced sewing and embroidery machines have the embroidery software built in. The Futura’s embroidery features are powered by software installed on a personal computer (PC), which greatly reduces the cost.

Compared to other sewing and embroidery machines with similar features, the Future is a tremendous value, offering great features for significantly less money. It’s extremely user-friendly and the design options are limitless. It can all be done with the simple click of a mouse. The electronic sewing machine features 80 stitch functions. Other features include one-touch pattern selection and a built in needle threader. It also has two styles of one-step buttonholes to create the perfect buttonhole each time.

Getting Started is Easier than Ever

Futura can work alone as an electronic sewing machine but easily transforms into an embroidery machine via a USB cable connection to a PC.The software included is Windows compatible for versions 98 and up. The package includes a tutorial and singer also provides a consumer support website. This includes everything you will need to take you through your embroidery project. Even if you have never embroidered, no problem. The built-in "How-To" tutorial is like having an instructor right there with you.

Click on what you need in the How To and step-by-step information appears. The tutorial includes illustrations, clear color photos, and written instructions.
The software includes 60 built-in designs plus another 60 bonus designs on a CD. There are two styles of included fonts to cover your lettering needs. Another unique feature of the Futura is the ability to use embroidery designs available on hundreds of internet sites or from embroidery design collections on CD or floppy disk. The Futura can use all popular home and commercial embroidery formats. You can download designs off the Internet, or you can use designs off a CD or floppy disk collection. Also, the Singer Sewing Company offers free monthly designs on their website, www.singerco.com. Once you select a design, you can easily display the number of colors in the design and the sequence in which they will stitch out.You can also change a color if you want.

The Futura is compatible with all embroidery formats. The Futura displays the number of colors and the stitching sequence.

Before stitching out the design, you may want to view what it looks like with actual stitches. This is made possible with a "click" of your mouse on view and then on realistic view. Because the computer operates the embroidery unit of the machine, all that is required to send a design to the machine is a "click" on file and then a simple "click" on "Transmit to Futura machine." It’s that easy. In addition, the Futura software includes a listing of all the most popular embroidery thread companies.Simply "click" on the manufacturer of your choice. To change your color, "click" on "List Color".The Futura includes each manufacturers color chart; making it easy for you to choose the precise color you want. You can then visit your favorite sewing supply store and ask for the thread by color number.

The Futura lists the most popular thread companies. Included manufacturer color charts make it easy to pick the colors.

Embroidery Hardware

The embroidery hardware includes a large (4-1/2 by 6-3/4 inch) and small (3-1/8by 4-3/4 inch) hoop, which is ideal for design placement and hard-to-reach areas of garments. Other included accessories are a darning and embroidery foot, 3 bobbins, embroidery thread , spool covers, small trimming scissors, embroidery connector cap, handy vinyl accessory storage bag. Futura can handle all of the practical and creative needs of the sewer or crafter at any skill level. It is an example of singer’s dedication to bringing innovative products to consumers at an affordable price.

Representing the latest in innovative embroidery technology, the new Futura joins a family of sewing machines, accessories and notions that have made Singer one of the world's leading manufacturers and distributors of consumer sewing machines and a name that stands for quality. 3-0 out of 5 stars Neat idea
What makes this product so attractive is that by connecting it to a computer you can get an endless amount of embroidery designs. It is also a full feature sewing machine.
I bought this item for my wife's birthday. It does everything that is advertised. The sewing functions are straight forward, and everything worked as it should.
The embroidery isn't as staight forward. The instructions are very poor, and limited. Although I have to admit, that I figured most of it out fairly quickly. The embroidery is slow, and of course you have to change thread for every color change in your pattern. The designs came out looking good. I also downloaded some free designs from other sites, and they worked just as well.
My problem with this machine is two fold. The one we bought broke after only a few hours of use. It was a minor problem. The bobbin holder had a crack where the tension screw goes in. At first everything was fine, but within a few hours the thread started catching in the crack until it was unusable. I'm sure that this won't be a problem for most customers.
The second problem is much more severe in my opinion. No one has parts for the machine, and it's near impossible to even get a parts list. One item that doesn't come with the machine that my wife wanted was a zipper foot. The part number for that item was listed in the book, but when I went to find it, absolutely no one had it. I even wrote Singer's part's department, and they wrote back telling me to call.
It's a neat machine. As long as you get one that works, and aren't concerned about parts availability, I don't think you can find a better ebroidery machine for less money. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don┬┐t count on the rebate if you buy from Amazon...
The rebate forms clearly state that they cannot be duplicated (i.e. reproductions won't be accepted). Since Amazon's chosen method of giving out the rebate forms is to let you print them yourself, that means you will be sending in a reproduction. I asked Amazon if they had discussed this with the manufacturer, and whether the manufacturer had agreed to accept the reproductions for purchases on Amazon. Amazon never contacted them, even after they received my request for information, and (at least at the time of this writing) they continue to advertise the rebates that will probably not be honored.

1-0 out of 5 stars So far, NOT so good ... and very disappointed!
I was very excited to order this sewing machine at such a great price (plus free shipping, an Amazon rebate, and a free carrying case from Singer!). However, my bubble burst quickly when the machine arrived without most of the promised attachments. I had to write to Amazon and Singer, and was shipped the missing pieces separately. I must say that customer service handled this matter very well! As for the machine itself, I find it lacking the quality of the Kenmore it replaced. This machine is lightweight (which is normally a plus!) but it feels "cheap", and the foot pedal is literally a thin piece of plastic. I have never gotten the thing to run really well, but thought I just needed to get used to it. Unfortunately, now it has stopped working altogether [...]

5-0 out of 5 stars Love It!
I haven't sewed in 25 yrs since Home Ec. class. I bought this because the price was right and it was a Singer.

When I recieved it, I read the manual--very user friendly. It did a great job of describing the machine.

It helped make my first project easy, beautiful, and eager to do more. Highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A STITCH IN TIME - IN THIS CASE 17!
Ease of use is at the top of my list, and this sewing machine certainly fills the bill.

An especially attractive feature is the number of stitches it offers - 17 in all, even including embroidery. Now, my creations look professional!

The instructions are clear and simple to follow - a necessity for non-mechanical folks like me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sewing Machine for Novices
I have had this machine for years! I paid a lot more for it than Amazon is offering. So the price is just not an issue here. The main advantage of this machine is 1) It is Singer (the name says it all); 2) It has an automatic thread tension control (an invaluable feature for novices!); 3) It has 17 stitches (even the one for sewing on buttons, embroidery, and monogram); 4) It is very easy to operate, as a very detailed and easy to comprehend user manual is included; and 5) It is light-weight, compared to those bulky Kenmore and Bernina machines, it is is just a baby!

I would definitely recommend this machine to novices (especially for such a price) it is easy and cute, too. ... Read more

The machine also can do free-arm sewing for easy cuff and hem finishes, is controlled electronically via a foot switch for excellent speed control, and is all-around one of the most excellent machines in its price range. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars I wanted to like it - I really did!
I purchased this item on sale and was so excited. The first one I received had a defective bobbin case and upper thread tension. Sent it back for a replacement. The replacement had a crooked extension table, a broken walking foot, and a defective spool pin (the spool FLEW off the machine when threading the bobbin). So I've returned the second w/o asking for another replacement. If this machine works out for you that is great. Just thought I should let prospective buyers know what I experienced.

I love this machine but am confused as to the stitching choices. Does anyone know how to find the abcdefg listed in the panel on the front machine. The wheel that gives l.2.3.4 etc is okay but the larger wheel has no letters on it. How do I determine the different decorative stitches with no letters on the larger wheel??. I am a quilter and would appreciate all the help I can get, thanks in advance

3-0 out of 5 stars Great machine, sub-par reconditioning
I purchased this due to a great low price. When I received it, the mounting peg on the extended work table was broken off. The casing had black smudges here and there. One of the big selection knob thingy on the side (it's for my mother in law) was missing its lable and the grooves were filled with black grime, its previous owner obviously didn't wash hands often.

The machine worked fine, my mother in law loves it, so I decided to keep it. I didn't want to risk getting a mechanidally defective one if I exchange it. So I wiped the thing down with denatured alcohol, and glued the peg back on with super glue.

Maybe it's unreasonable for me to expect more from a reconditioned product, but I've always expected reconditioned products to be some what clean, not missing stuff, and definitely not broken. Small scratches and normal wear is expected. But I didn't expect having to personally recondition this reconditioned item. But once again I've saved the day and become the hero of the household for a few glorious minutes. The curtains WILL be made!

1-0 out of 5 stars Singer's quality control leaves something to be desired.
Bought it. Had it shipped to a friend in Kansas who brought it back to me in Mexico.
Imagine how I felt when I discovered it had no instructions though I had checked Amazon's editorial review which stated that it came with instructions in English and Spanish which is one of the main reasons I purchased this machine.
Since this was to be a present for one of the women in the Mexican fishing village I live near, I now have an expensive boat anchor I can give to her husband.
This was Singers fault, not Amazon's
Singer finally came through with a manual 6 months later.
Machine froze 1 week after starting to use it.
Bottom bobbin mechanism stopped rotating.
Took it apart, cleaned and smoothed the bearing surfaces and now the machine performs well execept for the vibration, which is to be expected in this weight machine.

1-0 out of 5 stars Taking it back
This Singer is no good. I have attempted sewing with this several times, and have unfortunaly been able to make only ONE successful line of stiching. I have played around with this so many times thinking that "maybe this time it will work" but it hasn't. I tried contacting Singer and got back a standard email that did not have anything to do with my question. Also, the instruction book that claims to be easy to read, explains things in a difficult manner, and the pictures that go along with it are no help. Therefore, I give up, and am taking it back. ... Amazon.com Review

When Isaac Singer invented his first sewing machine in Boston in 1850, little did he foresee the range of home machines available today. Model 3343 offers just the right amount of bells and whistles to satisfy advanced sewers, without scaring away novices. Traditionally rectangular in form, the free-arm machine offers 43 stitch functions, with 30 built-in stitch patterns (numbered discs included), making embroidered and decorative designs a snap. The 30 designs are also illustrated and numbered right on the machine body for quick reference. Other convenient features include stitch width and length selectors, push-button reverse, four-position buttonhole system, top drop-in bobbin, easy threading system, 3-position needle selector, extra-wide zigzag capability (6 mm), and twin needle capability. Seven presser feet are included: all-purpose, straight stitch, buttonhole, button sewing, zipper, special purpose (zigzag and decorative), and blindstitch hem. Accessories can be stored in the accompanying box, and include three bobbins (transparent for thread monitoring), seven needles, oil bottle, and various extra parts. Illustrated with black-and-white drawings, the owner’s manual is written in English, Spanish, and French. While it has a sewing light, the 3343, which measures 15-1/2 by 11 by 7-1/2 inches, does not have a carry handle. Singer covers the sewing machine with a one-year limited warranty. --Ann Bieri
