Several years ago, an article in Wine Spectator magazine noted the importance of a high-quality glass for improving a wine's looks and enhancing its bouquet. However, the magazine lamented, many of the attributes that increase the beauty and value of the glass actually obscure the wine.Spiegelau's Vino Grande series is part of a connoisseur line designed specifically for wine lovers. The thin rim means less distraction from the taste and texture of the wine. Tap the glass gently with your fingernail and you'll hear the distinctive ping of fine crystal.

This glass, which measures 8-1/2 inches high, features a wide bowl and narrow rim ideal for Burgundy wines. Like all red-wine glasses, it should be filled only one-third of the way so the wine can be swirled to release its full flavor. 5-0 out of 5 stars Learn What You've Been Missing!
These glasses received the top rating from the Wall Street Journal's wine journalists, and as a result, I decided to buy 2 sets of 6, replacing our standard Williams Sonoma red wine glasses. After using them for about a month for various red wines, they have made me realize that I've been missing much of my wines' bouquets. They are big, so you can pour yourself a full serving, and still have plenty of room to swirl your wine without worrying whether your Cabernet will end up all over your rug. After that, bury your nose in the glass. The shape of the glass has allowed me to enjoy the wine's nose more than ever before. The bouquet simply explodes relative to my previous wine glasses. This alone seems intoxicating!

The glasses are made with lead crystal, but balance the delicacy of super-thin glasses with enough substance so you aren't constantly worried about breaking one (and even if you do, they are inexpensive enough to easliy replace). A case of six glasses costs about the same as 3 $15-$20 bottles of wine, and will enhance every bottle you drink. A great product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get the right glasses and the right cleaning tools
To quote the host of wine.about.com, the right glasses make a HUGE difference in the wine experience. Avoid breakage and get these wonderful Spiegelau glasses clean with the right cleaning tools -- stemware brushes. You just run some water over and into the glass as you scrub and voila! They're clean. Place on a towel or cloth placemat to dry. Just search on "wine brush" and you'll find them through Amazon.

5-0 out of 5 stars You've never tasted wine like this....
Beautiful glasses. I've been drinking wine for several years but didn't realize what I'd been missing until I drank wine out of one of these glasses. There is just no substitute; I'll never go back. The rim of these glasses is so thin and and the nose on your wine will make you swoon with delight.

The glasses are fragile and I have broken a few while handwashing, however, I started putting them in the dishwasher recently and there seems to be less breakage now. Just be gentle when transporting to the dishwasher. They are most likely to break in the rim area as the rim is very thin (but that is what makes the wine tasting so awesome)! Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great value!
We love these glasses - looked at them for a year or more, and took the plung when there was the bonus offer (bought 2 sets, for 12). They are well worth every penny! They are a quite a bit larger than standard red wine glasses but that makes them distinctive and enhances flavor. They sound beautiful when held at the stem to toast. They are delicate (as they should be) but we've never broken one w/ hand washing and drying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyday Stemware
I use these glasses every day. I used to have the same size/shape Riedel glasses, but these are *exactly* the same shape, and half the price. Also, the stem is just slightly thicker, so I don't break them nearly as often. They go right into the dishwasher, and come out looking perfect. I adore Spiegelau stemware.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect red wine glasses.....
I have 12 of these beautiful red wine glases, and I have to say I absolutely love the size/shape of these glasses. They really enhance a given wine beautifully, yet cost much less than Riedels (though look just as good.) Of all the Spiegelau red wine glasses, the Vino Grande bordeaux is by far my favorite---it is larger than the standard red wine glass (around 17 ounces), yet slightly smaller than the 25 ounce burgundy glass, which is a little too big in my opinion. Overall these are very classy, yet durable glass---which is why you'll find these exact same glasses in many, if not most fine steak restaurants.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Offers
I look for the reviews and I do make jusdement on if I do want to buy an item you have to offer here. I really like the Gold box offer too. What a great idea, the price range noted here is high [for me], espically with so many individuals out of a job, just a recommendation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Big and beautiful
I couldn't bring myself to spend the money on Reidel glasses, and these are a great alternative. They really do make wine drinking more enjoyable. The size and shape of the glass brings out the aroma of reds beautifully. The rims are thin, and the glass balances nicely in your hand. The generous size also makes for a striking table setting. Very satisfied.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful glasses
We bought two sets of these glasses with the bonus offer. They are worth every penny! At that price we were able to replace all our odd matching glasses and get two full sets of white and red! They sound beautiful when held at the stem to toast. Guests always remark at their fine quality. They are delicate (as they should be) but we've never broken one w/ hand washing and drying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for home entertaining!
I dislike large wine glasses immensely. That's my personal bias, and I didn't enjoy drinking wine from the gargantuan goblets I've had for years, so I bought a six-set of these 12-oz Spiegelaus at a Pottery Barn, and I love them! I had a glass of Sterling in one tonight, and I love the glass, its easy stem, and its perfect size for my face and nose. I love the feel of the glass -- not too heavy, not wimpy; the quality is very, very good, and I love its overall character. The shape is perfect for me and for those who enjoy a smaller-sized bowl or glass shape.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice glasses
I bought several different sets of these while in Singapore, and I've been very happy with them. Not quite to the Riedel standard, but still very nice. Hand wash. Enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars great value, very durable
I agree with the other reviewer. I just want to add that these glasses have survived hundreds of washings over the years in the dishwasher, and have never shown any signs of wear, including scratching or breaking. great value.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great glasses for everyday
These glasse are great for use at any time, whether you're just having a glass by your self or at a dinner party. Simple elegance and excellent quality at a much lower price point than Riedel's. Not as thin as Riedel but very nice, no distortion of the color and sturdier. If you want serious wine glasses and don't want to spend a fortune, get these. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatly Exceeds Expectations
I was interested in an alternative to my expensive Riedel crystal glasses. I often take fine wine on the road and want to ensure that I have the proper glasses to enhance the experience for myself and others. Too often, they broke in transportation or at the event and the cost was adding up. When the two for one offer popped up I thought why not give it a try; these would become my disposable glasses. The special offer price worked out to less than $5 per glass. I was certainly surprised when these arrived and I washed them. They are fine glasses that I now prefer to the Riedel, (Vinum series) irregardless of the price. (And the price difference is significantly in my favor with the special offer.) One was slightly imperfect in the lower portion/ bowl, but nothing too concerning. Sizewise, they were a tad smaller/ less voluminous than the Reidel, but again, no big deal. I am very pleased and am likely to order another set while the special offer (6 red and 6 white for $39.99) is still in force. If not, for the same price, I'd select these German crystal glasses over the Austrian Riedel Vinum series glasses.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get a set of white and a set of red and you're ready to dine
I bought these glasses along with the white ones because they were a great deal, but once they arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by their excellent quality and their beauty. These Spiegelau Authentis Red Wine Glasses have the heft of the Riedel glasses. They feel great in the hand and they make that nice ringing sound of crystal when you toast. The tapered shape does seem to help with the nose of the wine (follow the instructions and only pour wine to the widest part of the glass), and if nothing else, they make you look good at a dinner party. And the best part of all? They seem quite happy to run through the dishwasher, which is great, because washing wineglasses by hand always scares me. After spending three months using both the red and the white Spiegelau glasses, I ordered another set of each, and I'm giving my old Bormiolis away.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice but very fragile
I got mine with the 2 for one deal, so of the 12 glasses, one arrived broken. I asked for cash back and got almost no value (I think the refund mechanism for that deal is broken). So if you get a broken one, ask for a replacement. BTW You don't have to send the non broken ones back.

I like them so far, they are way better than those Anchor Hocking versions that I had. But in the hand they feel like they would break with any misuse. So while the carton says "dishwasher possible" mine are not going near it.

Again Amazon didn't pack one of the two boxes well and that was the box with the busted glass.

BTW if you home, and the UPS delivery guy hands you a box and you give it a shake and it "tinkles", hand it right back to him and ask to fill out a broken as recieved form. Don't even bother to open it up.

On the otherside, everyone seems to rave about how much better their wine tastes in better glasses. For me that's overrated. Maybe my pallett isn't all that refined but good wine still tastes better than bad or really cheap stuff, but neither seems to improve in the glass.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Price, Great Quality
This general purpose red wine set is a good place to start if you want to dip your toes into the world of specialized glasses that Spiegelau and Riedel produce. Even if you already have different sets for each type of wine that you drink, these will make a good addition to your collection. They are ideal for a dinner party where you don't want to swap out glasses with each different bottle of wine.

You don't have to be a wine snob in order to appreciate a really nice set of wineglasses. These are delicate and well-balanced without being absurdly fragile. There is enough of a taper to the thin rim to capture the bouquet and the bowl is nicely proportioned.

I prefer to hand wash them, but have successfully washed them in the dishwasher using a special wine glass rack. If you're careful not to bang them around or twist too much when drying, they should last a long time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great wine glasses!
I have recently started exploring the wines of Northern California, and am partial to red wines. I bought these glasses because of their price and their specificity to reds. They arrived intact, the set that I recieved are nearly identical to each other, and I've had them approximately four months and have only broken one, as it was knocked off a counter onto a tile floor. I think they are as robust as delicate wine glasses can be expected to be, and they really do enhance the wine-drinking experience, whether you are drinking $30 or $3 wine. These glasses add a touch of elegance to my table, and I'd definitely recommend them. ... Read more

This set of simple but elegant crystal wine glasses would grace the simplest outdoor picnic as well as a multicourse formal meal in the dining room. The glasses are 9 inches tall, 2-1/2 inches across the top, and 3 inches across the wider portion of the tulip shape. They have very thin stems and wide, stable bottoms that won't tip easily--a design bonus, since no one likes trying to clean red wine out of a tablecloth. A set of these glasses would make a lovely housewarming or wedding gift, along with a select bottle from your favorite winery. --Marcie Bovetz ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love these Glasses
These glasses are beautiful. Although I could never seriously consider spending the money for Riedels, I did handle one at the liquor store. I prefer the balance of the Spiegelau.
Most important, the wine tastes better in these quality glasses than in the inexpensive "no names." We enjoyed a Cabernet in our new glasses. Then to make sure I wasn't just imagining that it tasted better in my new purchase, I poured some wine in my old glasses. My husband's response to the wine in our old glasses was "What's wrong with this wine." Maybe we should have tasted from the old glasses then from the new ones. Even with all of the write-ups I never dreamed it would make that much difference.

5-0 out of 5 stars *Better* than Riedel for every day use
I strongly dispute the previous reviewer. I own a winery and have experienced most every stemware made. I use these Spiegelau glasses for every-day use, and LOVE THEM. In contrast to what one reviewer said, I find them slightly thicker than the Riedels, and hence -- as s/he noted -- they don't break nearly as often. The shape is very elegant; slightly more modern or contemporary. These Vino Grande Reds work well for both reds and whites, and you don't need to worry about them breaking. 1) they don't break as often, and 2) they are a fraction of the price. I have bought three dozen of them, and have NEVER seen any flaws or imperfections. I find the quality every bit as good as Riedel. My Riedels are pulled out when I want to "impress" a wine writer. Otherwise, it's Spiegelau for me!

5-0 out of 5 stars great everyday glass for the wine enthusiast
OK so these are not Riedels, but at this price, who cares? These glasses are very similar in shape to Riedel Vinum glasses (NOT Vinum Extreme) but are a bit less weighty, and appear to be made of slightly thinner glass. However, once you start using these glasses you will not notice the difference. I bought the Spiegelau glasses because I got sick and tired of paying $15+ per stem to replace my Riedels after breaking them -- after all, I would rather spend the money buying wine, not glasses, wouldn't you? I got a great deal (buy the bord stems and get the burg stems free) from Amazon and bought two dozen. I have been very pleased and have not broken a single stem. The glasses look nice and are excellent for tastings -- and at this price useful for larger group tastings. I wash them in the dishwasher with no problem. You can pay 2-3X more for Riedels but I bet you won't be able to tell the difference. Also, since they are less expensive than the Riedels, you don't have to be overly concerned about breakage. All-in-all a great glass and a great value -- highly recommended if you are serious about wine of if you just want a set of good looking stems that won't break the bank.

4-0 out of 5 stars good product as described.
This glass doesn't change the world but is everything it is promised.

1-0 out of 5 stars Definitely not Riedel
You can compare this brand all you want to Riedel...but you get what you pay for. Imperfections are one thing, but gross lack of quality control is something altogether different. You can do much better with your money if you shop (...) discount rack. I bought these glasses as an affordable gift and was too embarrassed to actually give them.
Why so harsh? Don't claim to have a world class product, charge people exorbitant amounts for it, and then offer up what would not pass for "seconds" at any reputable glass/crystal retail store.
Am I snobby? NO! Spoiled, maybe. Just tired of false boasting about second rate overpriced products. Spend a few extra dollars and avoid the frustration, please! ... Read more

Martinis aren't for everyone, but martini glasses are a must-have for anyone who entertains. 5-0 out of 5 stars A great gift (something you probably don't have)
There is a resurgence in the popularity of martinis, especially novel ones (a weird one uses a dash of creme de violet or creme de vanille instead of vermouth. Or you can use Sake to replace either the gin--for a light Martini, or use it to replace the vermouth.)

Nothing sets off a chilled Martini as classic Martini stemware. This is one of those gifts that is fun; many people want Martini glasses but never would go out and buy them. Add a stainless steel shaker and you have a wonderful house gift.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gift for a friend - she's thrilled
I ordered several different kinds of Spiegelau glasses and got a great deal on them overall... as they arrived (shipping was weird - didn't get them all at once), I set some aside but had one girlfriend I wanted to gift with the set of "almost free" martini glasses... the moment she pulled them out, her eyes lit up... she has always known quality when she sees it and these are quality... they are SO BEAUTIFUL!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Deal!!!
I was extremely impressed with these glasses! I haven't had a chance to use them yet, especially because they seem like they may be quite delicate, but they look like they are TOP QUALITY! While reading the other reviews I saw that many of their glasses came broken and they had complaints about the packing job. I thought the packing job was WONDERFUL (came in a nifty box so that each glass had its own little compartment) and not one glass came in any other condition besides PERFECT!!! Thanks Amazon for the great deal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Glasses but VERY POOR packing job!!!!
The quality of the glasses are wonderful but the packing job almost guarantees at least one broken glass. I had to return mine due to breakage and am now waiting for next shipment of replacement glasses. I hope I do not run into this problem again. Hopefully amazon will get on top of this problem.

4-0 out of 5 stars Poor packaging.
Sorry I didn't read the reviews more carefully. The glasses are a beautiful addition to your bar, but the packaging is extremely poor. Am shocked only one glass was broken. However, and this is frustrating... one must return the ENTIRE set and WAIT six weeks or more for a replacement, instead of returning the only broken glass(es). Let's hope packaging is better next time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful glasses at a great price.....
Being a wine connoisseur for years, until now I've used Riedel glasses. Though Riedel makes a great glass, they are also very fragile. Recently I decided to save money and try Spiegelau. I have to say that Spiegelau looks just as good as Riedel, yet costs up to 50% less. Also, it is a slightly more durable glass (though I would not recommend putting them in the dishwasher). In fact, my friends who are used to me serving wines in Riedels have yet to notice a difference.

When it comes down to it, unless you just have to have Riedels just so you can say "why yes, this is a Riedel glass" to your friends (in which you are simply feeding your ego), fine. Also, if money is of no object I'd recommend going with Riedel as well. Other than that, I can't see a reason why anyone would pay the extra money for essentially the same glass. As for the Spiegelau glass itself, it is perfectly sized and beautifully tapered at the top, thus allowing you to swirl your glass without fear of spilling, yet still able to enjoy the aromas as well. It really does enhance the wine compared to the average glass.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spiegelau Authentis Series

5-0 out of 5 stars The glasses are fantastic but the shipping is terrible
These glasses are a fantastic deal, even without the "two-for-one" that Amazon is currently running. Wine looks and tastes great in them. The problem is with the shipping. Like another reviewer I had my original order arrive with one broken glass. Amazon paid for the return shipping and sent me a replacement very quickly but when I opened the box there it was, another broken glass. I bet this type of thing costs Amazon tens of thousands of dollars and most of it could be eliminated with 10 cents of extra packaging material wrapped arount the entire box, not just the sides. I know they are very busy but heck, I'd be willing to fly to Amazon central and teach the shipping department how to do it properly. The cost of my plane , hotel and food would be recouped in fewer returns within a week.

5-0 out of 5 stars A really nice glass
I learned the difference a good wine glass could make when my favorite winery, the Livermore Valley's Fenestra, sold larger tulip-shaped glasses. A good glass concentrates the nose of a wine and enables you to aerate the wine. A side benefit is you get to admire the wine's legs, as well. It's amazing, but you really can enjoy the wine more.

I considered some lower end Riedel glasses, but this glass had the shape that I enjoyed at the winery.

I like this glass because not only is the bowl shaped well, but the stem is makes the glass easy to hold while swirling the glass to aerate the wine. The large bowl adds air, the smaller opening concentrates the nose, and the narrow stem makes it easy to hold. The legs seem to cling to the edge of the glass forever, making it easy to enjoy the wine with your mouth, nose, and eyes. This works for Two Buck Chuck as well as for Fenestra's award winning Syrahs and Cabs.

The glasses even come with directions on how deeply to fill the glass. Although the manufacturer says the glasses are dishwasher safe, the thin edges made me nervous about putting them in the dishwasher. They're too big to put on the top shelf, so I'll probably hand wash them.

Several reviewers mentioned concerns about the packaging. I think Amazon has resolved this. I received my glasses in a huge box with bubble packaging and the Spiegelau package inside. I was a little worried when I opened the package because the Spiegelau box was in the corner of the Amazon box with no bubble wrap around, but I opened the box and all were intact.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great, but fragile
These are the wine glasses that you bring out for a lovely dinner party, or to share a good wine with friends who appreciate good wine. Don't use them at a party - too difficult to clean up as they really should be hand-washed (despite claims they can go into the dishwasher). And they are quite fragile and therefore likely to break.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice, but fragile
I like this shape glass for red wines. The large bowl allows it to breathe, while the tapering at the top concentrates the bouquet. On the other hand, I don't like how fragile these are. One tipped over in the sink and shattered. Some say the thinness at the top is required to maximize the taste but I don't find that to be true. I replaced the broken one with a Spieglau Santa Monica glass, and it didn't have the thin top. It is taller, however. On the whole, I think it's worth investing in good wine glasses, especially, if you're an enophile. I think for the price of the Santa Monica, I should have bought the Reidel, however. These particular glasses, are much cheaper, but given their fragility, I'd get something else. Don't get everyday stuff that you have to handle with kid gloves.

4-0 out of 5 stars nice
These glasses arrived safely although they are obviously fragile. The shipping looks very secure.

Washing them is going to be a little tricky though because they are deep and the opening is too narrow for me to put 4 fingers in like I usually do for rinsing out glasses... but it's ok, they are beautiful. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous, fabulous, etc.
Value and function and design meet together in these beautiful glasses. Nice and thin, the crystal is beautiful and the glasses seem well-blown. A joy to use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally!
It was so nice to find a set of stemware, that I could afford, to compare to my parents' Reidel glasses (though these were a gift). I agree whole heartedly that for the money they're the best port glasses on the market. I look forward to expanding my Spiegelau collection :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value Dessert wine glass
These aren't as nice as some of the specialty wine glasses, but for the money, these are the best port glasses on the market. Lead? Perhaps a concern in a long-term decanter, but not from a 7% non-soluable port glass.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
Glasses focus aromas well and provide a nice counter-point to Reidel. Anyone who worries about lead content need not because there is very little free lead in a glass and none is water soliable.

1-0 out of 5 stars leaded glass for wine
I am sure that leaded glass for drinking has been shown to be very liable to result in lead in the beverage. The longer it holds the beverage, the more lead disolves. I believe these glasses are not fit for human use!

5-0 out of 5 stars What a deal!
We own Riedel glasses (which we love) but they are expensive to replace ($80 for 6 Burgundy glasses is a great deal). I've read articles which compared the two brands and, unless you're buying the Sommelier version, they found that for most wine consumers there was barely enough of a difference to justify the "normal" difference in cost. When I saw the price here I immediately bought one "set" (Burgundy and Bordeaux) and then, after a couple of days, bought another. In the end I had 12 Burgundy and 12 Bordeaux for less than the cost of 6 Riedel Vinium Burgundy glasses! Also, none were broken.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow - What an Experience
I first started my love affair with wine about 10 years ago and decided that it was finally time for me to enjoy my pastime even more with some quality stemware, partially because of tasting some wine from a Riedel glass that a friend of mine has. After quite a bit of research I decided to purchase the Spiegelau after many of the positive comments that I had read during my research, even though the Riedel was recommended more, and in part to the excellent price.

Right out of the box you can tell that these beautiful, what look like hand crafted glasses, are of exceptional quality for the price. After my first glass of wine I was sold and to be honest had a difficult time telling the difference between the Riedel and these glasses, which are a quarter of the price.

I eventually ended up ordering 36 glasses in total. The glasses were packaged very well and very securely.

Conclusion: These are great stemware at an even greater price. I you are in the market for quality stemware for wine don't throw away your money on the super expensive $50+ per glass when you can pay less than $50 for 6 (or 12 if the current sale is still going on) because unless you're an expert sommelier will won't be able to tell the difference. You, your dinner quests and your friends will really enjoy these glasses.

Even thought the manufacture states that the glasses can be put in the dishwasher I wouldn't try it.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent deal, excellent product
The Authentis collection easily rivals the Riedel Vinum collection, with which it competes. Why? Price. You don't need me to tell you. Even without the "Buy the Bordeaux, get the Burgundy free" promotion {of which I took advantage by buying two sets for a total of 24 stems - for a pittance), this is still a superb deal. Also, quality. Yes, the Riedel is a bit more delicate, but be careful how you handle them. The Spiegelau is unquestionably more resistant to water temperature, ham-handed handling, and just unexpected clinks and clanks. And there is absolutely no difference in the experience of your favorite Pinot Noir or Cabernet - in fact the more narrow mouths of the Spiegelau even enhance and concentrate the bouquet more than the Riedel.I own both and for everday use, Spiegelau is, without a doubt, your best bet, financially and enologically.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product, baaaaad shipping...
I ordered these glasses and the Bordeaux glasses even though I was leery about the shipping problems. Sure enough, the glasses came in a box with barely enough air bubble padding on the sides and none on the bottom, as well as no "Fragile" markings anywhere on the outside of the box.

3 glasses from one set and 2 from the other were broken. They really need to wrap these better. Suspending them in peanuts would be better... something. Amazon was great about the exchange but one glass was still broken even in the replacement shipment. I'm glad these weren't a Xmas gift (for anyone but me) otherwise it would have really been sad. Fortunatly I was able to mix and match between the original shipment and replacement shipment to create a full set of unbroken glasses.

That being said, the glasses themselves are superb. Delicate, beautiful, just as nice as Riedel. I'd happily purchase more if they could get the shipping problems straightened out. If you're willing to deal with the potential for breakage.

3-0 out of 5 stars Damage during shipment could have been prevented
I ordered these wine glasses because of the rave reviews, but against my better judgement because of the complaints about the poor packaging and damage during shipment. I should have trusted my instincts. The wine glasses were in a box, and placed inside another, bigger box for shipment. Air pockets surrounded the sides and top of the box of wine glasses, but there was nothing underneath them to cushion them when the boxes were thrown, which is I'm sure what happened, particularly because the box was not in any way marked as containing fragile items. I ordered two boxes of the wine glasses, and returned both due to broken glasses. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Use these for your favorite Cognacs
Spiegelau sells these short by describing them as generic brandy glasses. In the Cognac region, the spirit is more frequently served in glasses like these than in the more commonly seen (in the U.S., anyway) "snifter"-style glasses. These definitely concentrate the aromas more, which is a big part of the Cognac-drinking experience. As a bonus, they are large enough to double up as glasses for Port or dessert wines, although for Cognac and other brandies I do think they should be a little smaller--perhaps the 6-ounce port/aperitif glasses, which I have not seen, are actually more appropriate. The only other caveat is that, for whatever reason, these do not ship in the regular Spiegelau box, but are simply wrapped in bubble packing, making it a bit of a challenge to present these as a gift. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The best red wine glass ever!
Spiegelau Vino Grande Bordeaux is the best glass to drink your red wines from. Its a nice size, feels good in the hand & on the lips, the glass is thin (but not so thin it will break if you bump it), it holds plenty, lets the wine breathe, ones not afraid to swirl. I do not put mine in the dish washer, the heat seems to dull them, so I wash by hand to keep them nice & clear.
I have gone thru many wine glasses, the Spiegelau have proven to be our favorite, they are like the Riedel except they are less expensive & dont break as easily.
The Spiegelau glasses add to the pleasures of wine drinking! They also make great gifts.
I have to give credit to the authors (Dottie & John)of "Tastings" in the Wall Street Weekend Journal for turning me on to these several years ago. I thank them.
Cheers. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars No Bulge!
I have ordered several sets of Spiegelau glasses from Amazon, and have always been pleased. I ordered these with some trepidation, based on reviews noting a "bulge." I am happy to say that the glasses contained no visible flaws.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not an anomaly
I'm just letting you know that if you order these glasses you can expect the "buldge". All other stemware I've purchased by Spiegelau has been beautiful but all 6 in my set also had slight imperfections, buldges, and an odd thickness where the stem meets the bowl. Maybe one could see this as "character". If you want these glasses to match a set, shop around....

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor quality control
All 6 of of the glasses in my set were at least slightly misshapen, one was positively a mutant! The stems were not centered, and there were, for lack of a better description, glass tumors where the bowls meet the stems. The glasses were also thicker than I expected from Spiegalau. Other Spiegalau items I've purchased have been superb, so this could very well be an anomaly. ... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Beer a plenty
These glasses serve the purpose for beer, which happens to be 12 fluid ounces. Although, it is exactly 12 fluid ounces so you may want to have a sip before you pour. I love the design and think they're great, the only thing that i didn't prefer was the rim of the glass is very thin, i can see a drunken buddy smashing a bottle through the side of the glass after he has had one to many. I'd recommend them and the collins glasses that come with the combo buy. not a bad deal

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful glasses at a good price
Ordered these glasses as I had received a gift coupon from work and I probably wouldn't have ordered them on my own as I didn't know much about wine glasses. Well, what a wonderful surprise! 4-0 out of 5 stars Flute va Glass
Flute vs Glass? The battle has lasted for years. If you leave the Champagne saucer out of the equation, it's more a matter of personal taste than fuction. Both flute and glass will work well, and both are offered by Amazon in the Authentis collection. I prefer the classic lines of the flute and these are great. The bowl tapers in to the top to intensify the aroma, and to cloax the bubbles to hang around "just a little bit longer". If you entertain with champagne, or any sparkling wine, you need these. ... It looks very elegant with 4/5 full of iced beverage in the sunny afternoon kitchen. It feels so good while holding the glass and chatting with friends. The distinguish quality has captured every guest in the house. The size is just right for such occasions.

I'm only keeping them because of the other glasses I ordered as a package deal that got me a GREAT price........
