3-0 out of 5 stars Matte Black is not smooth
I love Le Creuset cookware, but I was not happy with the Matte Black finish.I assumed the matte finish would be on the outside of the pot- but it is on the inside as well.I even called Le Creuset support about it because I thought it was a defect.

If you read on Le Creuset's site, they go into detail how the pots are cast and then carefully sanded before being enamled.

However, this pot feels like it was just cast and then painted. It is *coarse*- I haven't used it yet, but I think it will be harder to clean, and I suspect not as durable in the long run.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Love of my Kitchen
This is the best thing I ever had in my kitchen.Although it is relatively costly, every penny is worth paying for this beautiful cast iron pot.It is the cook's best friend, second to none. One of the things I love in Le Crueset products is that you could use it from the freezer to oven, then straight to the dining table where you could proudly show it off to your guests due to its elegantly classic design.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most useful pot in my kitchen-too bad its French
This really is the best the best gift I've received in years. I can brown a chicken in olive oil on my gas burner then transfer it directly to the oven for roasting. Once finished the enamel cleans easier then just about anything else I've seen.

To heck with Al Clad and the rest.

This is the one piece that will never leave my kitchen!

5-0 out of 5 stars A versitle pot
I have used this pot for making soups, stews, and sauces. But I also use it to make a whole chicken in the oven, with the lid on.I usually make a 3-4 lb. chicken. The chicken comes out perfect after about an hour and a half. (at 375)It's moist and juicy and wonderful, with little effort.
This is the only Le Creuset I own.I bought it because I wanted a pot I could use for many dishes. So far I have been very happy with it.I use it several nights a week.

The only down side, is not being able to use metal in it.But that's the only negative I can think of.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chicken soup with rice
Like all le Creuset pots, this soup pot has awesome heat retention and a heavy lid, making it excellent for cooking rice, slow-braising meats, or gently simmering heavy sauces.Like the other le Creuset wok-shaped pots (the 4.5 qt soup and the 7.5 qt boullibase), this pot is excellent for carmelizing onions and peppers at the beginning of a recipe, reduces liquids quickly, and for thin soups is almost self-stirring.

The first drawback to this pot is its small size. The useful volume is about the same as that half-gallon container in your fridge. (OK to make lunch for two or rice for five, but way too small for a casserole). The second drawback is its enamel coating.I usually rave about the le Creuset enamel, because it soaks clean without scrubbing, and because - unlike stainless - it's totally non-reactive.But with a pot this size and shape it would be nice to be able to wisk a sauce with a wire wisk, without worrying about scratching, or to use the pot for deep-frying, without worrying about destroying the enamel.

I still use (and adore) the pot, but if you're only buying one le Creuset to test out the line, buy the 4.5 quart soup pot, not this smaller version. And if you're looking for a truly all-purpose small soup pot, consider the Kitchenaid 2.5 quart saucier instead. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Le Creuset stands by their product
I bought my set at an outlet store. I bought "2nd quality" which were supposed to be cosmetic defects only. I started noticing tiny rust spots on the inferior quality products the first month.

I sent back to Le Creuset, and they sent me perfect replacements immediately.

The only negative was having to wait two weeks during the exchange.

But this has been a wonderful experience. I am very impressed with how Le Creuset stands by their products, and how helpful their staff is. I would whole-heartedly recommend Le Creuset to anyone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Iron and Below Usual Le Creuset Quality
I've used it and sent it back. My iron Le Cruset products are great. This one, made of steel and coated with enamel, started chipping on the exterior and interior after only one month of use. I was not impressed.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great stockpot! Finally got a good one!
This stockpot is wonderful!. They have a double core inside. They are great for soups and sauces. You cannot cook sauces on high heat or it will burn the bottom. You have to simmer sauces on low or medium heat. I have to use these pots because I have an induction stove and only LeCreuset pots work on my stove. The company is wonderful about replacing the pot if you have a problem. You call their 800 number and get a referral number and send the pot back to their company in South Carolina. LeCrueset is great about replacing their products and are backed by a 101 year warranty. I also have a couple of dutch ovens and a few sauce pans and frying pans. They wash up nicely and are readily easy to clean. The one problem I had with the stock pot (not the one I currently own) was that underneath the handle, rust (the size of a pinhole)(used to leak out of the outside of the pot and run down the pot. I called the company and they replaced it, but the same thing kept happening. The company explained it as heat and expansion. My personal opinion was that this is a manufacturer's defect. (Rust does not look too great when you are serving to company, running down the side of the pot). I sent the defective pots back to them and you can trade up to another pot, which I did. I traded pots I didn't want with them and got pots (another dutch oven) that I could use. I recently reordered the Stockpot here and now I do not have a problem with the holes and rust down the bottom on the stockpot I received from Amazon.com. I finally received a perfect pot!! These pots are great for cooks and chefs and all types of cooking. They are professional pots. Emeril uses them, Martha Stewart, Bobby Flay, etc. I love them and like I stated the 101 year warranty is excellent. By far, the best warranty that anyone ever has. And believe me, I have sent my pots back a couple of times with absolutely no problem with them returning a replacement or the manufacturer giving me a problem.

2-0 out of 5 stars made in Taiwan??
Gee, I love their products made in France, but the stockpot is made in Taiwan and has all of the qualities of cookware that Taiwan is known for manufacturing. A fairly nice pot, true, but much better can be aquired for the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Red Pot for a Happy Kitchen
Compared to my favorite Calphalon Commercial Hard Anodized 8-Quart Stock Pot, the Le Creuset 8-Quart Stockpot is much lighter and easier to lift and carry when filled with liquid. This stockpot is not enamel-coated cast iron like the Le Creuset pots and pans, but the colors are identical. It heats up very quickly in comparison, too. Soups, stews, and stocks cook well in this pot because the lid is tight-fitting. I would like it for a second stock pot in this size. I like the Calphalon stock pots better because they all have pasta or steamer inserts.

The Le Creuset Red Pots are not the same cherry red like their famous heart-shaped 2-Quart Pan, but a slighter deeper shade. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Didn't impress me
I depend on Le Creuset quality when I cook. The enamel chipped almost immediately after I used it.There are small chips on the
outside of the pot and one huge one on the inside of the pot.I haven't tried to return it yet but I'm not keeping it.It is nothing like my other Le Creuset pieces.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Large Pot
I used this pot to make scratch chicken and sausage gumbo for the Christmas holiday.I boiled two five pound chickens including vegetables to make the chicken for the gumbo and the chicken stock. There was plenty of room left over. When I doubled the recipe for the gumbo (10-12) servings to (20-24) there was still ample space. As advertised clean-up was easy.I highly reccommend this pot.

5-0 out of 5 stars a REAL POT

5-0 out of 5 stars Easily holds four crabs or two lobsters
For those who love the freshest seafood, this is The Stockpot. We put in four large-ish crabs and had plenty of room;we later put in two medium-to-large lobsters with ease. There was plenty of water, so they were cooked quickly and mercifully. All those turkey bones would fit in fine for a lovely stock. The thing is pretty large, so consider where you're gonna store it, but when you need the room, this stockpot is the way to go. ... Amazon.com Review

Le Creuset has added this enamel-coated carbon-steel accessory line to its famous enamel-coated cast-iron cookware collection. The new line features the same bright colors, but not as much weight--something to consider when you're trying to lift 12 quarts of hot liquid off the stove, even with two handles. Though lighter than cast iron, the heavy-gauge steel distributes heat evenly across the bottom and up the sides of the pot for even cooking and reduction of soups and stocks, and rapid boiling of water for cooking pasta. No kitchen should be without at least one big stockpot, and Le Creuset's new version is a stylish, practical option. --Schuyler Ingle ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Beautiful enough to bring to the table and durable enough to outlive its 101-year warranty against defects, this big pot is perfect for preparing and ceremoniously serving a bouillabaisse, soup, stew, or casserole. Made of cast iron, with an exterior and interior clad in Le Creuset's famous bright enamel, the pot holds 7-1/4 quarts and measures 12-1/2 inches at the top. Because the sides slope to a bottom of only 6-3/4 inches, the pot fits household stovetop burners. As cast iron is unexcelled for heat distribution and retention, the pot cooks foods evenly and gently without hot spots. The knob on its heavy, tight-fitting lid is ovenproof to 450 degrees F so the pot can go into the oven for casserole cooking. Loop handles facilitate carrying, and the pot is dishwasher-safe. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Try some bouillabaisse...
The Le Creuset 7 1/4-quart Bouillabaisse pot is a wonderful addition to any home cook's collection of speciality cookware. Most of my Le Creuset pots and pans are in "Flame," but the blue color is very nice. I have made great bouillabaisse recipes in this pot, making substitutions for some of the shellfish, firm whitefish, and eel as best as I could, not being in Provence. The shape of this pot is quite traditional for bouillabaisse, and this French stew simmers in it beautifully. Clean-up is so easy because the pot is enamel-coated. The only drawback to using Le Creuset cookware is that, since it is made from cast iron, it can be quite heavy to lift when full. The Bouillabaisse pot can be brought directly to the table for serving. I place mine on a matching Le Creuset trivet. You will love this pot and find many uses for it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 our of 5
LeCreuset is simply the best available in heavy, cast cooking products. This pot, the frypan, the smaller pot (we don't have quarts downunder, so I'm guessing 5 or 3 quarts) all of which are my kitchen's prized possessions are just unbeatable. The downside is the cost of shipping, but this stockpot isn't available (yet) over here, so is a very valuable addition to the kitchen.

2-0 out of 5 stars Beware
This is not made in France -- most of the Le Creuset line is from a centuries-old factory in France; this pot is not. When I saw where it was made, I returned it.Buyer beware.

5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing stock pot
One of my most cherished possessions is my mom's 6 quart Le Creuset turquoise dutch oven that she got when she married my dad in 1952.When I needed a bigger pot, I went to Le Creuset, but was worried that the newer product would never equal the quality of the vintage stuff.

Boy, was I wrong. This pot is amazing! The quality is evident from the look and heft of the pot, and it's performance is equal to or better than my vintage pot. I'm no gourmet, but if you cook soups, stews or pasta for crowds, this one is for you. ... Read more

Product Description

Made of sturdy steel, this very striking 16-qt. Stockpot is worth its weight in style and function. Although it's not made of cast iron like it's cookware counterparts (you'd need Paul Bunyan to lift it!), the steel coated with double-enamel conducts heat evenly and rapidly and the exterior holds up to everyday use. Great for professional or home kitchens. Dual side handles are large enough for a secure grip and the chrome-rimmed lid sits snugly on top to seal in juices and flavors. Complements other Le Creuset cookware in the same color. About Le Creuset...Since 1925, artisans have been crafting Le Creuset cookware in the French village of Fresnoy Le Grand. Each piece of Le Creuset cast iron cookware is handcast, polished, double enamel-coated and then fired, resulting in some of the finest quality cookware available. Cast iron is one of the best materials for distributing heat gently and thoroughly and is ideal for induction ranges. The strong enamel coating will not absorb odors or flavors, and is easy to clean. Heavy lids securely seal in moisture and flavor. Le Creuset cookware comes in a variety of sizes, colors and styles to match any kitchen and cooking preference. So lasting, you'll pass it on to the next generation of promising cooks. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Beautiful enough to bring to the table and durable enough to outlive its 101-year warranty against defects, this big pot is perfect for preparing and ceremoniously serving a bouillabaisse, soup, stew, or casserole. Made of cast iron, with an exterior and interior clad in Le Creuset's famous bright enamel, the pot holds 7-1/2 quarts and measures 12-1/2 inches at the top. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars HUGE and HEAVY
Make no mistake about it, this thing is humongous. 32 centimeters wide, 17 pounds empty, and about THIRTY pounds full. Forget about bringing it to the table to serve from - just leave it on the stove with a ladle in it.

That said, I've had mine for about three years, and I love it. The small bottom diameter makes it easy to sweat onions, celery, and carrots to start out a soup or stew recipe. If you're browning meat, I've found what works best is to treat the pot like a wok - brown the meat in the center, right over the heat, and then stack the already-browned or waiting pieces around and up the sides to get them out of the way until you add the liquid. Once you've added the liquid, the tapered sides will reduce the dish quickly. If you dont' want evaporation, the heavy (HEAVY!) lid fits snugly, and lets the pot maintain a slow simmer for hours (I've let mine go overnight with no problems).

I regularly make triple batches of chili and spaghetti sauce in this, and occasionally use it for apple butter. (Six quarts of apples, a pint of sweet wine or grape juice, and a teaspoon of ground allspice down to one quart of butter in six hours. No fuss, no mess, no trouble). It's a wonderful addition to any serious kitchen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Believe me, it will make you cook better!
I've had this 7+ Qt. soup pot for a little over a week and I have made several soups with it. These were soup recipes I had been making in an old non-stick pot. The only thing that changed was the pot and I couldn't believe the difference the Le Creuset made! It was like I had used a completely different and gourmet recipe!!! It cooks thouroughly and completely and with a 101 year warranty, who can beat it?

It may be a bit heavy, but if you want good iron that retains heat well, it has to be heavy.

As an added comment, the time it takes to decide which one of the brilliant colors you want, might be the only real downside to this cookware! ... Read more

Read more
