Amazon.com Review

Opening the oven to check on a food's temperature means wasting the cook's time and losing oven temperature and moisture--not to mention a face full of steam. This thermometer prevents those problems. Insert the instrument's 6-inch stainless-steel probe into a roast beef or turkey and monitor the time and temperature (from 32 to 392 degrees F) on the thermometer's large digital display, which connects to the probe with a 4-foot cord. The control panel sets cooking time and temperature, and an alarm sounds when either is reached. Fully opened, the thermometer/timer is 5 inches high, but it folds in half for compact storage. Magnets on the back permit it to be temporarily mounted on a metal surface. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars No Guessing
Have used my Taylor digital for a chicken and a pork loin, what a differance. Knowing the exact internal temperature is a huge plus. I have usually over cooked and ended up with dry food. This time it was moist and perfectly done. Thanks Taylor and Thank You Amazon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Accurate
I have had my Taylor for one and 1/2 years. It is very reliable. I have another thermometer that I use to calibrate and they are always on target. I have bought several and given them as gifts. For $13.00 you can't beat it..

1-0 out of 5 stars Piece of JUNK
Right out of the box it displayed HI even in meat that my instant read thermometer read 46F. I am returning this piece of garbage. Do yourself a favor and buy something else. I would give it 0 stars if I could.

4-0 out of 5 stars Accurracy CANT be determined by boiling water.
FIRST: i am VERY PLEASED with this therm. i make candy sauces which require precision temp for edible results. it's always been a sort of hit or miss operation for me before, requiring a lot of babysitting to make sure i get the temp just right. for the first time ever, i'm not only making perfect sauces everytime but i'm not tied to the stove. the very audible ring allows me to do other things around the house while waiting. the reason i gave it 4 stars instead of 5? because its requires some creativity to attach it to the pan in a way that keeps it suspended in the liquid. i'm so pleased i was going to send one to my mom via this web site. that's when i stumbled upon these disagreeable reviews. puzzled that i was getting such good results with mine amid all these complaints, i measured the 'boiling point' of water as well, and several times it came out at 210 F. that's when my chem backround kicked in. i remembered...(and here's where my second point comes in) SECOND: for those of you who complained about it's accurracy, it's important to keep in mind that the real world boiling point of water is contingent on several factors including the purity of the water (i.e. softening salts), elevation, humidity and room temp. all will affect the final outcome. there is a wide variation (with 208F (97.7 C) being within the range) in the 'true' temp of boiling water. if you dont believe me, you can visit: http://www.k12science.org/curriculum/boilproj /index.html this web site is challenging schools around the world to measure the boiling point of water, and has posted some of the results. i challege you to try something other than water that requires a measure of accuracy and see if you still have problems. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Lifetime Battery?
The scales stopped working after just one month. Enough said.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast, accurate and easy to read.
Need a bathroom scale? This is a very good choice. I've had the scale for about 6 months and I feel this is one of the best I've every owned. The scale is quite a value.

I passed up more expensive scales that claimed as their advantage an easy to read display but I have no trouble reading this scale even while the sandman is still trying to glue my eyes shut.

The scale gives accurate readings in half-pound increments. It also turns itself off and on automatically to conserve power. It does take a couple of seconds to get a reading as the scale powers up and takes its measurement.

The scale is very light and small so you can put it away and take it out without effort. The low profile makes it easy to get on and off.
My particular scale has gotten soaked when small children have tried to empty a bathtub onto the floor and though it temporarily stopped working it went right back to its old accurate self after it dried a bit.

One final benefit of this scal is that it is very easy to weigh my children. My 6 year old can very easily get on the scale and read the weight (since its self-zeroing there's nothing to worry about). I can easily hold my 18 month old and get on the scale with her and then do a difference reading (with other scales it was hard to read the dial/display and accomplish this). ... Read more

Taylor’s innovative remote thermometer lets the home chef monitor cooking without being tied to the kitchen. A durable transmitter and accompanying pager work in tandem to ensure meat is never overdone. To operate, insert the transmitter’s 6-inch steel probe into the main course and place it in the oven. The probe’s heat resistant chord travels from inside the oven, past a closed oven door, and connects to the transmitter sitting on a nearby countertop. Control settings can be set by type of meat or user-selected temperature. When ready, the transmitter sends a signal--reaching up to 120 feet--to trigger an audible alarm. If temperature monitoring is not needed, the versatile base unit can also function as a simple timer. Both transmitter and pager feature sturdy plastic construction and offer a clear digital number display. The transmitter requires one 9-volt battery while the pager runs with two AAAs--batteries not included with purchase. This product can be used when oven cooking or grilling and comes with a 1-year warranty. -- Amy Arnold

5-0 out of 5 stars The best
I have been using this for quite a while for candy making. Although some of the writing has washed off, I can still read the indentations and so continue to use it. Of all of the thermometers I own (and I have several), it is the most accurate. Candy thermometers should always be tested before each use by putting them in boiling water and adjusting your final temperature by any +- they show from true 212F or 100C boiling temp. This one has never needed any adjustments; others have been off 6 to 8 degrees. Because of this, its strength (no exposed glass bulb to break) and its ease in cleaning(dishwasher-proof), this is the only candy thermomoter I recommend when teaching candy making.

5-0 out of 5 stars accurate, reliable and easy to use
This is a terrific thermometer. It registers fairly quickly and has a wide range. The clip allows you to hang it on the side of a pan, and the thermometer itself is protected by its metal frame, so you never have to worry about the bulb resting on the bottom of the pan. I've had this thermometer for quite a while and it has stayed accurate.

Best store it upright and in a place where it won't get jostled.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST candy thermometer .. in my opinion
I have owned this candy thermometer for over 30 years.. I use it, mostly around Christmas time, and can count on it's accuracy and ease of use. It is easy to clean and easy to attach to any sauce pan. Like any fragile product, keep it in a safe place and you will have it for a lifetime.

4-0 out of 5 stars Neat little gismo
This is quite a nice thermometer. It's extremely sensitive, so if you have very specific temperatures in your candy recipes, then it will work wonders. The only problem with it is it's awkward shape, which makes it difficult to clean and store. Otherwise, I would highly recommend it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Kitchen Gadget
After reading customer reviews on other digital thermometers and realizing that ALL thermometers are not created equally, I ordered this Taylor digital. It more than met my needs and overcame the drawbacks of others: It is small enough to fit easily into a drawer and can be carried in a shirt pocket; it is extremely easy to clean; since the digital readout is on the flat "head", the temperature is VERY easy to read without having to bend over or read it upside down; it has an ON/OFF button to save the battery and it comes with an extra battery included. Although the description says "instant-read", you do have to watch the read-out climb (quickly) to the current temperature. I'll never have tough, over-cooked meat again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fast!
I have another "instant read" thermometer that came highly recommended a few years ago. But it took so, so long to get a reading, and if I'm not using my probe thermometer, it's because the situation is such that I *can't* leave something stuck in for very long. I knew there had to be something better.

This baby really *is* instant. I don't have to worry about it melting over the grill, because it won't be there that long. It's almost fast enough that it seems a waste to take my hand away.

The drawback, however, is the on-off switch. It's far too small, and more than once it put a dent in the top of my fingernail.

Overall I'm very happy with this thermometer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for grilling
I purchased this thermometer and have used it several times. I was a user of the "light tree" fork prior to this purchase. Worth the investment. I have cooked perfect meat that is done the way everyone likes it. No more guessing!!! I have had no undercooked steaks or dread the well done. No matter how you like yours cooked from rare to well done you will love this little thermometer. The digital readout and instant read are great. You won't have time to stand over the grill any longer than you have to. You absolutely have to love the fact you are cooking the meat hot enough for the safety aspect also.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for grilling
When you grill you get the internal temperatures of the food. It is a great safety feature when cooking and the food comes out perfect. We love it and use it all the time.

1-0 out of 5 stars I had the same bad luck!
When it worked, it was great, but as previously written, it did not last long! The wires that attach the probe to the head become detached much too easily with handling. It requires "jiggling" to work but that is a little difficult with chicken frying in HOT oil! Was handy, not reliable, I'm hoping to find the time to send it back. ... Read more

This heavy-duty dial scale uses Taylor's exclusive ProHelixrack-and-pinion system for accuracy. It's so sensitive, the needlevibrates slightly with the pulse in your foot. Any change in yourweight is sure to register, for better or worse. If you monitor yourpounds over time for any reason, there are color-coded tabs to trackyour weight. 2-0 out of 5 stars Registers different weight every time
Each time we use this scale we weigh something different. When stepping off it doesn't return to 0. Even if you 0 the scale before each use, it shows you a different weight.

1-0 out of 5 stars lillipad
This scale was broken when I took it out of the box. I stepped on it, the pointer went to 180, and stayed there. Now I have send it back, and buy something different. I wasted alot of time and effort.

1-0 out of 5 stars Just not a quality scale
I bought this scale because the weight max. went up to 330 but, the scale has not been accurate at any weight and not even close when weighing over 300. For people under 300 it weighed about 5 pounds over, but for people over 300 it was a shot in the dark. Sometimes weighing over by 10 pounds. It's bulky and not accurate, and definitaly not worth the 50 bucks they ask for it!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Big Enough to hold a random number generator
I bought the scale because of it's retro look and the advertized precision mechanism. I use it, but I don't like it. It is bigger than my bathroom (so it resides under my bed), and the weight varies by about 6 lbs. I usually stand on it about 4 times and take an average in my head... okay, I take the low number. So what! Afterall, it's not that low.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bridget Jones has one of these scales
I bought this scale because I saw it in the Bridget Jones movie, only hers had numbers equal to stones [each stone is 14 american pounds]. I loved it in the movie. I have one and I love it because it is the only scale I can find with accurate information and the price is good. I have bought scales in the past that have cost over $100 and are worth two-pennies now. I love the points you can use to track your weight and put one at the desirable weight you want to be at, for me it's 150 pounds or around 11 stones. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars useful tool
I purchased one of these and then promptly destroyed it. The face is plastic and should not remain in the oven. I melted the face. I purchased another and love it. Use it to test the temperature for bread and doneness for meat. Next time I will read all the other reviews more carefully!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast, accurate, and simple to use, it's the best!
This is the best thermometer I have owned, and I have owned a few. (One did not give a fast reading and had a prong that broke off. Another was digital and a bother to turn on and remember to turn off, in addition to taking too long to give a reading and being relatively expensive.) This thermometer is compact and simply designed, ridiculously easy to use, and gives a fast and accurate reading. For example, from room temperature to 160 degrees F, it takes just about five seconds. The relatively fine point at the end makes it easy to insert into meats, unlike some bulky-pronged thermometers I have had. This plastic case with a pocket clip is great, too. Forget about the fancier, more expensive gadgets. -- this little gadget performs like a dream, and the price is right.

5-0 out of 5 stars FINALLY FOUND ANOTHER ONE
THERE MAY BE FANCIER, COSTLIER THERMOMETERS OUT THERE. NONE, IN MY OPINION, WORKS BETTER THAN THIS WONDERFUL, SIMPLE TO USE DEVICE. MY FIRST ON WAS SPIRITED AWAY AT A DINNER PARTY AND I HAVE FINALLY FOUND ITS REPLACEMENT. WONDERFUL.

5-0 out of 5 stars Keep it Stupid Simple.
You can keep your bulky & fragile digital readout probes, I'll take a good ol' thearmalcouple any day. I've tried various digitals & EVERY SINGLE ONE stopped working over time(no, not a dead battery). I've had dozens of similar probes as this Taylor model over the years & always lose them before they stop working. The only thing I don't care for is the soft plastic, somewhat bulky sheath. However it does have a notch for recalibrating so needle nose pliers aren't neccisarry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Indispensable kitchen tool
There may be better instant read thermometers out there, but this has always done the trick for me, whether it's testing the water in baking bread or quickly finding out whether a roast is done. Its slender needle goes into hunks of meat quickly, and the whole thing is light enough that, if you are concerned that your burgers on the grill are properly cooked, you can easily put this in your pocket as you head to the back yard. Small note of caution for other dummies like me: the dial is under a plastic window, and so the whole thing should not go -in- the oven. For that, you want a meat thermoeter with a glass face. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for froth making
This is an excellent constructed thermometer for making perfect froth. Indicator is tightly sealed and no fogging. And solid stainless-steel construction. I bought it a month ago and have no complain. Make sure you only need it for making froth and not other usages. If you look at the picture, you'll see the it only works at temperature from 120-180F. Good quality and nice price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Improve your froth
Not a bad thermometer for making the perfect froth for your cappucino. Pluses: Temp range for perfect milk temperature highlighted (140-160 deg. F), reasonably priced. Minuses: It should include a plastic protector tube (to prevent inadvertant stabbings...), and it would be nice if the temp gauge went down to 80 degrees. To get a good froth, try dancing the steam wand at the top of the milk until the temp reaches 100 deg.F. As the foam rises, follow it up. At 100 deg.F, push the wand down into the milk until the temp reaches 140-160 deg.F. Have fun! ... Read more

The large LCD screen on this kitchen timer makes it easy to check the cooking time on your chicken or casserole from across the room. The timer has large buttons that are easy to program and will time your cooking in hours and/or minutes for up to 20 hours. The loud alarm can be heard from another room so chefs aren’t chained to the kitchen for the entire cooking time. When not in use, the timer’s screen constantly displays the current time. The timer runs on one LR44 battery. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Feeble Alarm...
The alarm of my timer emits a feeble beep for one minute and ought to be louder IMO. Otherwise it works fine. It is not a clock as another wrote..

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice display, but no seconds
PRO: Large display. Easy to use buttons. Loud alarm.
CON: Displays hours & minutes, but no seconds. Timer can only be set to nearest minute.

4-0 out of 5 stars It has big numbers
It is easy to read and easy to use but it doesn't have a on and off switch so it is always on. If you want to turn it off to save the battery you have to take the battery out when you are done using it and put it back in when you want to use it again. It would be a lot more convenient if you could just turn it off.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hindsight? Shouldv'e ordered two or more!!
My stove is about eight years old and the timer doesn't work. The repairmen can't seem to fix it, even with replacement. I ordered the Taylor Classic Style Big Kitchen Timer and so far my biggest mistake was not ordering two or more. It seems as though anymore, not many things are worth the money paid but with this timer, I got more than my money's worth. I absolutely love it!! It's accurate, easy to set and very dependable!! Holiday cooking will be much easier now that I don't have to worry about whether or not my timer will work! My son borrows it for timing ebay auctions, so I find myself calling to him often, "Hey you! Where's my timer??" Let me tell you folks, order this while you can. They can't seem to keep them in stock!! There are many reasons to use a timer and this one is great!! Thank you Taylor. ... Read more

This barbecue fork takes all the guesswork out of grilling meats. With its built-in digital thermometer, the fork supplies accurate temperature readings in either Fahrenheit or Celsius when its tines are inserted into a cut of meat. A chart on the back of the handle provides a quick reference to the minimum temperature requirements recommended by the USDA for food safety. Because the thermometer reads all temperatures between 0 and 220 degrees Fahrenheit (-18 to 104 degrees Celsius), it can also be used to determine how thawed or cool meats removed from the freezer or refrigerator are at the start of cooking.

This digital fork has a handy hold button that locks in the current temperature reading on the large, 0.5-inch display panel. An on/off button and automatic shutoff extend the fork’s battery life. Other non-battery-powered features include a comfortable, nonslip rubberized handle, sturdy stainless-steel handles that easily lift large cuts of meat, and tapered tines that, when withdrawn from the meat, let the meat juices drain back in. This digital fork thermometer runs on one AAA battery (included), and is covered by a lifetime warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

This discreet little digital clock/timer fits in the palm of a hand and gives users the choice of counting up or down in either minutes and seconds or hours and minutes. When the timer is not in use, the gadget operates as a digital clock, reporting the current time in hours and minutes. The LCD screen displays an easy-to-view 0.8-inch readout and the timer itself can mount to a magnetized surface, clip to clothing, or stand on a tabletop. The timer is simple to set and has easily-identifiable buttons for the clock, hours/minutes timer, and minutes/seconds timer. For longer counting tasks, such as all-day cooking of meat sauces or tracking intervals between taking medication, the hours/minutes timer counts up to 19 hours and 59 minutes. For meals with shorter cook times or timing at-home workouts, the minutes/seconds timer counts up to 99 minutes and 59 seconds. The timer emits a beeping noise when set time has elapsed, which is easily turned off by pressing the Start/Stop button on the instrument’s side. The Start/Stop button also pauses and resumes countdowns when pressed before countdown time is complete. The timer runs on a single AAA battery (included) and Taylor ensures complete accuracy in its readings through a one-year limited warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Don’t let its looks fool you. This forecaster may appear at first glance to be nothing more than a high-tech clock. However, upon closer consideration you’ll discover that its sleek, jumbo-sized display unit conceals the functionality of a sophisticated weather station.

This wireless gadget measures and tracks outdoor and indoor temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure, plus displays date and time of day. It includes one indoor/outdoor wireless transmitter with an LCD temperature display and a transmission range of up to 100 feet. (For the truly weather-obsessed, the system can be expanded to three-channel use by purchasing additional transmitters, so users can simultaneously monitor temperature in four different locations: outside, in the nursery, in the spa, in the wine cellar--the possibilities are endless.) A main receiver unit shows trend indicators--upward, downward, and steady--for all functions, while a min/max recall feature stores daily highs and lows for temperature and humidity. Forecast icons--sunny, partly sunny, cloudy, rainy, or stormy--predict weather conditions 12 hours in advance based on changing barometric pressure. The unit is powered by four AA batteries and includes a convenient, low-battery indicator. This item is covered by a one-year, limited warranty --Mary Park ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, low price weather monitor
This product does a good job monitoring the temperature at the base location & one remote location (included). The humidity sensor is only for the base location. The weather forecaster doesn't always match up with the actual weather (the instructions are a little unclear if you should set it to the actual weather, or the prediction for the next day).Does not measure wind speed, and thus windchill.Large readout, able to take up to 3 remote sensors.Overall, a good product. ...
