Vacuum sealing keeps food fresh and flavorful three to five times longerthan traditional storage methods by removing all air, the principal cause offood spoilage. FoodSaver's patented VacLoc bags, which work with this kit, aresafe for boiling, microwaving, freezing, and refrigerating, so a sealed bag offrozen veggies can just be dropped into a pot of boiling water. The bags alsocan be washed and reused, are dishwasher safe, and are recyclable. The Vac 300is easy to use. Put food in the bag, place the open end of the bag into thevacuum channel, close the lid, and press down. Meat and chicken are now safe forup to three years and fish up to two years in the freezer. Lettuce can staycrisp for weeks instead of a few days. You can even create your own frozendinners (much yummier than store-bought!) by vacuum packaging leftovers right onthe plate. This kit includes: the FoodSaver appliance, five each of quart andgallon VacLoc bags, a roll of 8-inch and a roll of 11-inch VacLoc rolls tocreate custom-sized bags, a user manual, and a quick start guide. The applianceis 17 inches long by 5-1/2-inches wide and has a one-year warranty. --DoreeArmstrong ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tilia will replace seals free
I actually use the Vac 500, but the solution to many of the problems I read about here is to replace the lower seal and/or the upper seal unit. Both of these are easy to replace and a simple call to Tilia with the problem will result in FREE REPLACEMENTS.

I just did this for my 500 and I am back in sealing business.

3-0 out of 5 stars Broken seal
I have had my Vac 300 for about 1-1/2 years and never had a problem with it until just this past month. Now the left side of the sealing strip will not seal and I did not realize that until days later when I went back into the freezer. My brother swears by this product but has purchased a more expensive unit. I plan to also "upgrade" to a better level because when it works, you can't beat it, and once you get used to it, you can't be without it!

2-0 out of 5 stars works for lest than a year
bought last year worked wonderful for 10 months and then came around to seal some bags and would not seal. vacuum works but will not work sealing anything. looking for a new one but will not buy another tilia and will buy more along a professional sealer

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Appliance
I purchased this food saver vac 300. My husband and I were so anxious to receive it that we both looked for it to arrive daily. We now wait in line to use it. He loves to reseal in the freshness of cereal and potato chips. I went to work on meat items for the freezer. We both found the machine very easy to operate and work with. I have put up meatloaf, stuffed green peppers, hamburg patties, steaks, pork roast and Italian sausage for starters. They really look great in the packages. I have told my grown children that when they want to purchase gifts for us to get more vacloc rolls and they all agree that is a good idea as they never know what to buy us that we really can use. We can't say enough about this wonderfull machine and are very very pleased with it. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Ingenious and simple to operate, Tilia's FoodSaver system seals food inside containers after vacuuming out the air--and the oxygen that causes foods to spoil. That means food stays fresh longer than when it's merely refrigerated or frozen. Meat, for example, remains good in the freezer for about six months; frozen inside a vacuum package, it remains good for two to three years--and it doesn't suffer freezer burn, either. Fish, coffee, cheese, crackers, sugar, nuts, oils, and wine all stay fresh three to five times longer when stored in a vacuum, whether they're frozen, refrigerated, or at room temperature. Also, silverware and other metal items won't tarnish when stored in a vacuum-sealed bag.

Like all FoodSaver machines, this one vacuums air from containers and seals bags with a simple one-touch operation. The machine measures 15 by 5-1/2 by 3-1/2 inches, weighs 5 pounds, has a cord-storage compartment, and cleans easily with a damp, soapy cloth. It carries a one-year warranty against defects. An instruction booklet and video accompany the machine.

The basic FoodSaver container is Tilia's three-layer VacLoc bag: it has two plastic layers and an outer nylon layer to keep moist foods (such as meat loaf or chocolate cake) moist, dry foods (such as brown sugar or flour) dry, and all foods from leaking odor. Included in this kit is one 11- by 10-inch roll for bagging, three quart size bags, and two gallon bags. For cooking, the bags can go directly into a microwave oven or boiling water. They're resealable, reusable, and dishwasher-safe. --Fred Brack ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wouldn't be without it!
This item easily pays for itself--I live alone & can buy in bulk without worry about waste--Bags should not be re-used if they have previously been used to seal raw meats (the juices, doncha know) so I do pre-freeze meats before sealing, but weeks & months later they come out of the freezer just as red & juicy as when I brought them home from the market--Summer's fresh veggies can be enjoyed inexpensively all winter when blanched, sealed, & frozen--Great for cooking in quantity & freezing single portions which can be boiled in the bag for us working singles, as well-- A set of canisters (cheapest at Target) & jar sealers & some Mason jars are good investments, too--I bought a case each of quart, pint, & half-pint jars & now my cupboards are neatly filled with jars of pasta & sugars (which don't get solid) & popcorn & such which all stay fresh & bug-free & are easy to find when I need them--Raisins & coconut stay moist & fresh when sealed, too-- In the fridge, sour cream, when transferred to a jar & sealed, will last at least twice as long--I can pre-shred cheese (I don't like the store-bought pre-shredded stuff) & store it in a canister & it will last almost forever, as will crumbled bleu or feta cheese in a sealed mason jar-- I even sealed the soup ladle for my silver, which doesn't fit in the silver chest so it stays clean & shiny!--All-in-all, the FoodSaver is well worth whatever one pays for it--

3-0 out of 5 stars Great! - but have all the facts before buying
HAVE ALL THE FACTS BEFORE BUYING! (I only made this review 3 stars instead of 4 or 5 stars because I got a bit burned from the lack of full disclosure in the infomercial. I have just had a chance to practice using the Vac 550. I agree that it is a great product. However, I must echo some comments made elsewhere (regarding the 'professional' model) regarding customer service. There is *a lot* of information that is not provided in the infomercial. The main thing to remember is that many things are not practical to save just with the plastic bags. They have some great additional accessories that, taken as a whole, will answer practically any food storage need - but these can be very expensive. When I discovered that I really needed these accessories, I called to order them. I had to wait on hold for 30 minutes. I also asked to have my 30-day satisfaction guaranteed extended to include the 30 days *after* I receive the accessories - since that is the only way I (or you) can really tell if the product will be cost-effective for me (or you) in the long term. I was refused this courtesy. *SO* my suggestion is that, even though it seems like a big investment, you will probably need those accessories anyway (and I expect that the long-term savings, and enjoyment of fresher food will make them worth it), ORDER THEM RIGHT AWAY, ALONG WITH THE MAIN UNIT. You can always return what you don't want to keep, but I would bet that most households, even myself as a single person living alone, can make good use out of every single type of accessory they offer. If you buy all the stuff right away, you can start taking full advantage of the machine's benefits right away, and that is the best way to get the most from your trial period (and to have the most fun).

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for keeping meats, fish, and esp. cheese fresh!
I've used one of these units for a couple of years and use it every single day. For just my husband and me, food could easily go bad before we use it, but with this appliance, food is kept as fresh as the day we bought it. I like to cook & lots of recipes call for cheese. Previously, I'd never have more than one cheese in the refrigerator & we'd have to hurry up & eat it before it went bad. Now I have several varieties of cheese available at all times for recipes, sandwiches, or just for some freshly grated cheese on top of chile or spaghetti. Slice open the bag, use what you want, and reseal it. Also great for cold cuts & for the other half of the package of bacon after I cook up some bacon. I buy sausages & put them on the grill, then I freeze them in batches that make sense for us. You can write the date & contents on the bag. When meat or fish is on sale, go ahead & buy it, even the large, less expensive bulk packs. Separate the steaks & freeze them. I don't ever cook anything in the bags. I always take the food out first. It's pretty noisy, but not enough that I'd take a star away from the rating.

5-0 out of 5 stars good unit but problems?
I've had my vac 800 since January,04. We love the unit and have become fanatical in sealing most every food product in either bags, cannisters or mason jars.

However, we've had a couple of problems that could not be 'trouble shooted' by Tilia's customer service....
1. the pump on our unit recently broke....called the company customer service and confirmed it was defective. All of a sudden, it stopped to automatically turn off and didn't go into "low gear". Hopefully, this is not a sign of more problems to come.

2. can't seem to seal the smallest Mason jars. Again, I trouble shot this with Tilia and can't get it to work. Shame....really nice to have the option of using small jars for stuff.

Other than this, the unit is great and worth buying and worth using!

3-0 out of 5 stars Be an Educated Buyer!
Although I like the food saver, the price is so good on this because you are not actually buying the Foodsaver 550, instead you will get the Foodsaver 500. They say it is similar, false advertising is what it truly is.
It works well on pre-frozen foods, but if you wanted to just cook something and save it you can't because you the moisture will make the seal impossible. You have to pre-freeze everything. I wouldn't get this unless you have a real need for storing bulk foods. ... Read more

Each roll is 8 inches wide and 22 feet long. The material is a three-layer construction--two plastic layers and an outer layer of nylon--that keeps moist foods moist, dry foods dry, and all foods from leaking odor. 5-0 out of 5 stars The "Must Have" kitchen gadget
This is probably the most used tool in my kitchen. The cost of the machine and bag material are more than repaid in food savings. I like the rolls as opposed to the bags because I can make the size I need without waste. Watch for sales on meat or fish; buy large quantities at reduced cost, and cut your bags to a portion size, vacuum and seal, and freeze. I have taken hamburger, steaks, fish, pork, and chicken out of the freezer after being stored for two years or longer, and they are as fresh as the day I put them in.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
These rolls are great! You cut off just what you need and make your bag.

5-0 out of 5 stars More convenient than the bags
I have used both the bags and the rolls with my food saver and much prefer the rolls. It may take you an additional 5 seconds to make it into a bag but the rolls are really more cost effective and convenient. With the rolls you truly only use what you will need. If you've sealed something that will only be opened once you make it exactly that size, if you're going to be opening it multiple times just remember to allow for that in your original sizing. If you go through the trouble of washing and reusing the bags for incrementally smaller things such as from cold cuts down to cheese you will find that these rolls while initially a larger expense than you may like will more than pay for themselves in the end. The 11" rolls are also very useful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delivers as promised!
I love my Foodsaver product. I use it all the time and it keeps food really fresh for a longer period of time. After opening cheeses, I would have to use them within the week or cut away the unwanted parts. Now I just use my Foodsaver with the special bags and cheese seems to last forever! Really great product. I just hope the motor doesn't burn out with the use I'm getting out of it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Seems to work pretty good
As far as a vaccum canister it is far superior to round containers that are availible. The nice part being that it is a better shape for leaving in the fridge and stacking things on top of it.

The tray iself is made of some pretty thick plastic, its not a wimpy thing. Two parts, there is a lid with a silicone gasket around the edge and then the bowl of the tray. The bowl can be machine washed. There is a valve on the top with 3 settings. Open/Vaccum/Close. To use hook the accessory hose up to the valve in Vaccum mode and engage the pump. My 550 takes about 20+ seconds to evacuate the air out with about a pound of meat in the tray.

Its kind of weird but the top is held on by vaccum pressure so if the tray is emty and you grab the top only the lid comes off. But once the vaccum is pulled they are very well held together.
The tray can hold a good amount of food. I like the dimensions.

It is said that using vaccum makes things marinate faster. I'm not sure how true this is as I have never done a side by side comparison. But I have observed one thing. I was making some Jerky and I put one batch in the tray and vaccumed it and put the other batch in a non-vaccum container of similar dimensions. Left both overnight. In the morning when I went mix the meats up so it would marinate evenly all of the marinate in the vaccum tray was gone, it had been sucked up by the mean. The regular tray still had marinade in it. Same meat, same basic marinate (one had chili pepper for some extra heat). The strength of the marinade seem stronger in the finished product as well. So I guess there is something to it.

Either way when I marinate something for a short time I always use the vaccum (if for no other reason than to justify all the money I spent on it).

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must For Marinating!
I own a FoodSaver Vac 1050 and I also had an earlier FoodSaver model which died from years of constant use. I have had the square canister for a number of years, in fact I now have two of them. Suffice it to say, they are a great companion to the vacuum sealer. As the title of the review says, this product is great for marinating steaks, chops, poultry parts etc. Your marinade is able to penetrate deeper into the fiber of the meat and thus you get a much more tender cut.

But I also keep leftovers and cold cuts sealed in this unit. It stores quite well in the refrigerator due to its compact size. Food really does stay much fresher in a vaccuum packed container and the canister is more convenient than constantly sealing, cutting and re-sealing vaccuum bags.

Because you will be able to maintain the freshness of your food(s) longer, this unit will more than pay for itself in no time. If you own a FoodSaver, this is a perfect companion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just good for marinading
In addition to its excellent use for marinading meats, I find the square canister to be far more practical than the round containers for storage in the fridge because the shorter height can more easily fit on any shelf and can be stacked. It just makes a lot more sense than trying to fit round containers into a square hole.

It's perfect for square or flat foods like sliced cold cuts, whole sandwiches, square cut cheese, hor d'oeuvres, leftover slices of pie, garlic bread, and pizza slices!

According to Tilia, the square base is the only container that is microwave safe for heating food (not for cooking), so it can be directly used for reheating soups, casseroles, leftovers, etc. without having to transfer to another dish that will need to be cleaned later.

Tossed salads can be prepared in advance, vacuum sealed to maintain freshness, and then conveniently eaten directly out of the container, unlike the round containers that are too deep to use in this way. With a small insulated cooler and a refreezable gel pack, you can easily take a fresh and healthy salad to work without finding a soggy wilted mess by lunch time.

Over the long term, a reusable container is more cost effective than the resealable bags.

5-0 out of 5 stars Marinading Made Easy!
I love to marinade almost every meat I cook. I used to put my meat in a container far too large for a 2 person serving in a bowl or casserole dish and cover it in saran wrap to open my refrigerator the next day to the scent of marinade all over the place. Also that was pretty darn messy and a waste of good marinade!
Well what took me 10 hours before now takes 1 hour in this food saver. I was skeptical that the marinade wouldnt permiate the meat thoroughly enough. Boy was I wrong. My meat was never more tender in 10 hours than just 1 hour in this foodsaver container! And I dont lose any of the flavour of my marinade that happened sometimes with the cover and overnight method.
This container is mega durable, easy to open after sealing closed. I'm going to purchase more of these, they're so wonderful!

5-0 out of 5 stars must have for quick marinating!
I use this at least 4 times per week to marinate chicken, pork, steak, etc. The Foodsaver sucks all the air out of the container, drawing the marinade into the meat during the process. No need to marinate for an hour or two. A real time saver! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars FoodSaver 3-Piece Canister Set
I have owned my foodsaver for 3 years now and it works great. I bought mine at costco which came with 2 canisters that worked so well i bought these to. I have brown sugar in mine for almost a year with no troubles, it doesn't get hard like when left in the bag. Mine even went on a move form ny to Fl and did not loose their seal. You need to make sure the tops of the canisters are clean and the lids before sealing cause if food is there they will drop the seal. I bought 5 3-1/4 canisters at wal-mart to hold large boxes of cereal, instant potatoes and fresh bagles & french bread just remember to put them in the fridge for bread.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Description on Canisters, Bags, etc
I have had my Tilia Food Saver since they first came out. I have the very large canisters and would like to buy smaller ones. I am interested in the set you show here, but, there is no product description. I want to know exactly how much each canister holds.
I would also like to know about the bags; do I need a special attachment to use them?

5-0 out of 5 stars Still a new FS owner, but LOVIN' it so far!
I received my FS Vac 820 for Xmas. I have used it quite a few things in the bags and I am so pleased with the results. I am looking forward to seeing the long term out come of this product.

I just had a birthday yesterday, and received all kinds of new goodies for it!! I can't wait to vac pack my kitchen...

3-0 out of 5 stars New to vacuum packing
I just bought the FoodSaver 800 recently, and along with it a set of these canisters. One of the main reasons I purchased this system was for vacuum packing my dried goods in my pantry to keep out bugs. These canisters waste a lot of space in my cabinets; it would be nice if someone could design a set that was more space conscious.

As far as a seal goes, I did the marshmallow test that they show in the infomercial and sure enough the marshmallows expanded to fill the space as the air was evacuated. Obviously I can't attest to how the seal holds up in the long term, since I've only had it a few days. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!!
Being single, I have left over foods. This canister has been great for lettuce. The lettuce has stayed fresh for up to 2 weeks! Just as fresh as the day I bought it. I also own other canisters from Foodsaver, and I would recommend them to anyone.

Designed to be used with all Tilia FoodSaver vacuum-packaging machines, the 32 VacLoc bags in this package each hold up to 1 gallon of food. Each bag is 11 inches wide and 14 inches long. The bags' material is a three-layer construction--two plastic layers and an outer layer of nylon--that keeps moist foods moist, dry foods dry, and all foods from leaking odor. For cooking, the bags can go directly into a microwave oven or boiling water. They are resealable, reusable, and dishwasher-safe. --Fred Brack ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

FoodSaver vacuum packaging systems have so many practical applications, it's hard to imagine who couldn't benefit from owning one. The FoodSaver's main usage is for food freshness as it seals food for refrigerator or freezer storage while drawing out air and moisture, which can cause food to spoil sooner. The result is food that stays fresher five times longer than if it were kept in average storage canisters or plastic wrap, that prevents freezer burn, and remains flavorful and nutritious. This system is economical for families who prefer to buy in bulk as it keeps seasonal foods from degrading before they can be eaten. The FoodSaver also is a time-saver as it allows cooks to make up large quantities of a recipe ahead of time and then freeze individual meals for fast dinners on busy days, brown bag lunches for school or work, or.pre-weighed portions for special diets. Cooks can even prep and seal food for a party to keep ingredients, such as potatoes or apples, from coloring before serving time. The FoodSaver storage bags are conveniently safe for boiling or the microwave to make reheating a cinch. Other helpful uses include sealing emergency kit contents or boating or camping gear to keep them dry in wet conditions, making ice packs, or keeping polished silver from tarnishing.

This FoodSaver kit comes with three quart-sized and two gallon-sized bags plus a roll of 11-inch-by-10-foot plastic wrap and a roll holder and cutter for custom cutting any bag size. Bags have channels that make air removal more efficient and a 5-ply construction that offers a better barrier against moisture and oxygen than freezer bags. This Essential Series FoodSaver appliance is designed to fit any FoodSaver bag size and offers hands-free operation so users simply press the lid once and the appliance vacuums, seals, and turns off automatically. The commercial-quality vacuum pump extracts air quickly and a Teflon-coated sealing strip holds bags evenly for an airtight seal. The patented vacuum channel keeps liquids from overflowing into the appliance and sends them instead into a removable drip tray, which is dishwasher-safe for easy cleaning. The V375 also comes with an accessory hose that hooks into a port on the main appliance to vacuum package with compatible FoodSaver canisters, bottle stoppers, and lids (all sold separately). An accessory mode on the vacuum adjusts the amount of air removal to the appropriate amount for each type of container. Tilia includes a reference guide, a quick-start guide, and an instructional video to get novices started and offers a one-year warranty on this amazing product. --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars a reliable standby
Americans, we read, are drinking and enjoying more wine. So, whether you're a newbie to the wine aisle in your favorite supermarket or a dyed in the wool oenophile who sniffs and swirls, chances are that bottle stoppers are a necessity for you.

Bottle stoppers are as varied as the wines themselves - from high end sterling to cowboy chic to kitchen gadget cute. These are user friendly and always reliable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Food Saver Vacuum Canister 3.25 Qt; A Good Choice
I first saw these at Wal-Mart in Florida, they sell for the same price. I like the canister size, it can hold a large box of Cereal or 6 - 7 fresh beagles or a large box of instant potatoes, even big bags of cookies and keeps them from going soggy. I cut any cooking direction need from the boxes and use a rubber band to hold it to the canister. The Bulk Canisters
cost too much and are bigger than you will need also none of them come in a 3 Quart size. This wide mouth canister is better than a Mason jar which i think doesn't comes in a 3 quart size. I now have 5 of these and will get more as needed. I figure the large bag of chocolate chips I buy at Costco will call for one. I also keep fresh French bread in one for 2 weeks just need to cut it in half so the whole loaf will fit, it remained as fresh as the day I bought it. Just remember that fresh bread needs to be refrigerated or it will grow hair even in a vacuum. Found out the hard way, lost a bunch of fresh bagels that way. ... Read more
