2-0 out of 5 stars disappointed
No preheat required. This was the reason I decided on this toaster oven. Fired the unit up at home before I brought it into work. Turned her on and whammo instant heat. I was looking forward to using it the following day. Stayed out late last night too many drinks - not used to that any more. So my plans of cooking a salmon steak turned into a corn dog. Put the dog in the oven that is when I noticed there is no temperature control. There are presets for bakery, potato, broil, etc. But no way to adjust like a regular temperatur control. Four minutes later my dog is black. Will look at directions when I get home - probably return tonight.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Alternative
I agree with the bill sheppard. This does seem like a great alternative to the panasonic version of this toaster. I like the looks of the toastmaster better..so I went with it. I wonder if toastmaster benchmarked panasonic and tried to improve upon the panasonic. Quality is good and it does address the shortcomings people have with the panasonic. Ive had it for a few weeks now and it has done a great job with toast and pizza. Both evenly cooked and faster then a traditional toaster. The lack of a temperature adjustment works out just fine. The temp settings are predetermined for the type of food you are cooking. You just have to adjust the time. I hope the long term reliability of this unit is as good as my first impressions.

5-0 out of 5 stars First impression: looks great!
After getting a kitchen remodel, my wife determined that my old beloved under-cabinet toaster oven had to go, as it just couldn't keep up with the shiny new granite and stainless steel appliances! So I set off to find a new toaster oven and found people absolutely raving about the Panasonic NB-G100P FlashXpress, which cooks by light instead of coils. I didn't care for the look of it, but people have raved so much that I purchased one. Before I had unpacked it I saw the Toastmaster "Lightwave" TLWTOB6, which appears to be brand new and uses the same technology, but looks much nicer, and is about twenty dollars less expensive. I've since put the Toastmaster to use, and assuming I like it will return the Panasonic unopened.

So far I've only cooked toast, but it does a great job - perfectly even. I like the interface - it has a "cool blue" LCD (which is always lit) with a list of the different pre-programmed settings such as toast, broil, defrost, casserole, potato, etc. There is a dial which is used to select desired time, or the brown level for toast. It does not allow selection of temperature at all, however - for all cooking levels except for toast, it uses a timer which defaults to an appropriate setting and can be increased or lowered as desired. This will take some getting used to, but seems reasonable. The cooking light cycles on and off while the oven is in use, and then the oven beeps when finished.

This toaster oven seems to address most of the shortcomings people have noted about the Panasonic. It is larger (and does require moderately more counter space side-to-side), but can hold six slices of toast. It does top brown. The light is not blindingly-bright, as the window is tinted with a fine mesh of black dots but you can clearly see what is being cooked. The wire rack is very solid, as are the other accessories. I can't yet speak for whether the oven heats evenly throughout the interior, but my toast was even front-to-back.

I'll update my review if I find anything I'm unhappy with, but at this point the Lightwave looks like a great alternative to the Panasonic.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed
I have always bought those cheap little ovens that would last for about 6-8 months, so I decided to spend more and get a good quality one.

Well, this was a surprise! I turned on the oven, it worked 5 minutes and then quit.

Very disappointed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sharp looking, and best performing toaster I every owned
Works great! defrost feature is great. Toast fast and never burns. And the slide out cleanout tray is great - I actually clean my toaster now!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't fall for the nostalgia
For a 75th anniversary production piece, Toastmaster ought to find another line of work than producing toasters. Haven't thought much of this company for a number of years, but fell for the retro look, thinking it might also mean retro quality. Nice exterior. Too bad nice styling was married to lousy performance. Never tasted doughy toast before this experience--essentially browned on the outside and raw on the inside. Too, today, it's an easy matter for all toasters to include a "lift" feature that raises toast an extra fraction of an inch for those smaller than normal slices that don't extend beyond the top of the toaster when done. There's no reason to have to dig into the toaster to bring up the slices. Most toasters today don't hold a candle to their forerunners of the the pre-cheesy eras of the 50s and before. This model from Toastmaster looks beautiful, but if you're interested in more than decoration, buy another product.

5-0 out of 5 stars The latest in Toaster Technology, in a classy design
While toasters are definitely low-tech items, this toaster has as many improvements as you can get without a computer chip. The 1950s diner design was what caught my eye, and its "cool steel" prevents you from burning yourself. The slots are wide enough for your average bagel, and you can defrost those toaster pastries if you don't want them fully toasted.

I recommend this for those looking to upgrade this ubiquitous kitchen fixture.

4-0 out of 5 stars It toasts...really!
OK, if you're reading this, you're probably already thinking, "Why is it so hard to find a toaster that...well...toasts?" And no matter how much, or how little, you spend, this "simple" appliance keeps missing the mark *by that much*? Well, buy this toaster! It looks cool (unlike some of the other weirdly-shaped, overly-techie versions out there); it is easy to de-crumb (without it divesting itself of the crumbs all over the counter); and, *most importantly* it toasts: any thickness of bread product, to any degree of darkness, evenly across the surfaces--and without charring the outside and leaving your frozen stuff icy in the centre, and without making PopTarts Flambe!

4-0 out of 5 stars Old looks, new tricks
What can you ask of a toaster? It should heat things. Preferably to a crisp. Um, beyond that, toaster technology doesn't have to be all that high. However, the T75R features just enough minor luxury appointments to make you want to upgrade. The defrost button is particularly nice for fans of frozen waffles--it extends the cooking time just enough so that the item thaws and then goes immediately into toasting. The wide slots are perfect for bagels, and they cleverly close up for thinner items like Pop-Tarts. The brown level is easily adjustable and has an impressive range, from barely to blackened. And, no doubt, the thing looks cool. (Speaking of which, the "cool steel" part means the sides do not heat up during operation--the red parts are safe to touch during toasting.) I picked this up on a Gold Box offer and I'm glad I did; true to its name, it's classic and classy. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Please don't waste your money
We bought this toaster a few months back and as a previous reveiwer said, it only toasts on one side. It also pops up spontaneously before the toasting has even started. Trying to use all four toasting slots? Forget it. When you depress one side, the other pops up! Now, after only a few months, it looks as if it is having electrical problems and may be shorting out. For safey, we are tossing it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Buy!!!!
I wasn't expecting much from this toaster being its sold for less than $20. I have had mine for over a year now and it was probably one of the greatest bargains I ever got. You can't ask for anyting more than a cheap reliable product. I use it basically every day and my bagels/tost are always done to my liking. Ive never ahd a problem with it. I reccommend this to anyone who finds it!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
I bought this toaster about 4 months ago and now it only browns my toast on one side on the highest setting! So I have to flip the bread over to get it toasted on both sides. Will never buy another Toastmaster product again.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this toaster!
I was given a Toastmaster toaster that blew out a couple years ago and then I found this thing on Amazon for 6 dollars or something...sounded good at the time but I don't think I even got 6 dollars worth of toasting out of it. It died too, it didn't blow out but it just won't work...now I have to go out and buy a real toaster. Toastmaster sucks. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars I expected better from Toastmaster
We received this toaster oven as a wedding gift. We were immediately suspicious of the product. The manufacturer claims it can hold a 5-pound chicken. There is just no way that's possible.

Soon after, we discovered what other reviewers have noted: even on the lightest setting, it doesn't produce lightly toasted bread.

What makes matters worse is that this is the only toaster I have ever owned that doesn't have a bell to let you know your toast is done. This is completely bizarre, since the toaster DOES have a bell built into it -- it goes off when the oven timer runs out. But since it doesn't go off at the end of the toast cycle, you have to pay very close attention and watch for the indicator light to go off, as this is your ONLY way of knowing that your toast is done (or, as the case may be, overdone).

I at least allowed two stars because I've had good luck using the oven to quickly rewarm leftovers and even cook small frozen pizzas.

Overall, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is the WORST Toaster Oven EVER
It is rare that I beleive every review on Amazon because sometimes ... people do get different results from thier purchases. However ... it appears everyone including me who bought this POS is sitting down to a breakfast of burnt toast and unevenly cooked bagles.

Please buy anything else except this product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Toaster Oven EVER!
Burns the back edges of whatever is placed into it (no matter what the height of the rack) and leaves the front edges cold. What else do I need to say? It is over priced, does not work properly and is absolutely the worst toaster oven either my wife or I have ever even heard of let alone owned!

1-0 out of 5 stars Toastmaster Oven-Broiler Model TTOB4RL
This is without a doubt the worst appliance I have ever owned. It takes 10 minutes to heat up and on the lowest setting, burns bread.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not so great toaster oven
I bought this oven because I liked the style and size. However, when it comes down to function, this oven is horrible! It heats inconsistently, and toasts unevenly. It burned toast when set on the lowest setting. I really like the removable liner, but the adjustable baking racks are very difficult to move from one position to another. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Toastmaster 354 is great
I use my Toastmaster to bake and toast with no problems.

The thermostaat works fine on my unit, allowing me to make pizza, fries, toast, bacon and just about anything else I want. The pull out interior is by far the smartest thing that any toaster oven manufacture has done. It's wash and go with no mess on the counter. The only caveat I have is that the timer could be more exact - digital rather than analog. But heck, for the price, you can't beat it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Utter Crap
I can't believe that a company would embarrass itself by selling a product like this. My wife bought it because the inside comes out for easy cleaning. That is it's only redeeming quality. I consistently burns toast, overheats, under heats and the shelves are almost un-adjustable. It's the worst toaster oven I've ever seen.

1-0 out of 5 stars NO STARS!!Unless you like black toast DON'T BUY THIS ITEM!!
I have returned two of these toasters. I thought the first one was just defective when it burned everything unless I stood watch over it. Then the setting dial came apart. The second one was just as bad. Even set on the lightest setting it burned everything. Keep going when you spot this one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Would give it NO stars if that were an option
I purchased this oven 4 months ago and have regetted it almost daily. After burning everything the first month, I thought I could adjust the temp to cook items more evenly. No luck! Because you have to add cooking time to offset for the lower temps, all the food burned anyway. The only thing that I found worked well during my time owning this was the exhaust fan in my kitchen that got a workout EVERY time I cooked....from heating up leftovers to making toast.

1-0 out of 5 stars toastmaster
This item was purchased about 1 year ago. Haven't liked it since I bought it. It either burns everything or takes up to 8 minutes to toast bread. A week ago, it just quit working. As with other reviewer's comments, I have too noticed a condensation on the glass when it heats up. Would not purchase another item such as this one. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Toastmaster is not the master of toast.
OK, I bought this toaster for two reasons, it's cheap and it went well with the black and red decor of my kitchen. Black and red are very fitting also because this black toaster has me seeing red! My husband wanted toast one morning so I proceeded to make 6 slices (2 at a time). I set the dial where I thought it should be and popped in two pieces of bread. A few minutes later toast popped out, looked just right. The next two slices burnt at the same setting. So I lowered the setting and tried the next two, which also burnt. You have to let this thing cool WAY down before making additional slices.
Oh, and the "Pop Tart" setting?? FORGET IT! I stuck a Pop Tart in there and set it on the Pop Tart setting. I ended up having to take the bottom off the toaster to dig out the tart. It had warmed just enough to become limp and slide between the wire holder and the sides of the toaster. See, the only thing holding your food up in the toaster is a thin little zig-zag wire. Pop tarts will slide right through, and I have lost a piece of bread or two that way also. Other times food will not be supported well enough and fall against the side of the toaster jamming it when it tries to pop up.

In short, don't buy it.. it's cheaply made and definitely not worth the trouble. ... Read more

Broke after 1 year--now only works on one side.

1-0 out of 5 stars Broken Knob - Take 2
Ironically, I read a previous review (Reviewer: A guest from Melbourne, FL) that mentioned a missing/broken knob. We went ahead and purchased this model today and, lo and behold, I take it out of the box to find one of the knobs broken. Taking it back and heading to Sears.....

1-0 out of 5 stars adjustment knobs no good
We just purchased this toaster yesterday from Target. We were at first skeptical if we should purchase because the display model had a missing knob and the one side was broken. The slats that cover pastry did not retract. Well, we went ahead and purchased it. We got it home, took it out of the box and one of the knobs was already broken and the other knob broke in our hands as we were trying to adjust the lightness and darkness. Needless to say, I am returning the toaster this morning and AM NOT going to exchange it. I want my money back

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this toaster!!
I chose this toaster primarily for it's looks and took the risk since it had mixed reviews, but I got it and love it. It does it's job, you know, it toasts. How much can people expect from a toaster? I love the way it looks, very retro diner, oh, and it toasts very well, you know, like a toaster. So buy it already.

5-0 out of 5 stars No complaints here

Inexpensive and easy to operate, this handsome chrome/white plastic toaster accommodates thick breads, bagels, frozen waffles, and Pop-Tarts. It even has Pop-Tart settings on its two browning controls, one for each pair of slots so individual preferences can be satisfied during the breakfast rush. The exterior stays cool during use. When cleaning the toaster, you must lift it to open the hinged crumb tray. Overall, the toaster measures 10-3/4 inches wide, 7 inches high, and 10 inches deep. Accompanying the toaster are coupons worth $5 for foods such as Pop-Tarts and Eggo waffles. --Fred Brack ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The idea is good, the product stinks.
I loved the idea of a 4 slot toaster and this was my first. However after just one month, one side of the toaster quit working-burnt out. So now I am right back where I started from with just 2 slots.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible.
If I could rate this thing at 0 stars, I would. After only one month of use, toast sticks inside and the "cancel toast" function will no longer work. I have to unplug the toaster to get toast out of it.
There's a reason this toaster is inexpensive: it's a cheap piece of junk.

1-0 out of 5 stars Junk
I agree with the vast majority of reviews on this product. It works poorly and I too was here looking to see if I could find a replacement for this toaster. Spend a little more and get a product that works far better.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's great and easy to use.
This toaster save our time of breakfast in putting 4-slice breads at a time. The color of the bread are also doing well like golden. Our family like this product very much.

1-0 out of 5 stars POORLY MADE PRODUCT
I bought this toaster and the toaster button wouldn't stay down. I exchanged it at the store for the same model. The toaster button on this one didn't work either. This product is poorly made.

3-0 out of 5 stars Really Haven't Had any Problems
The general consensus on this toaster seems that it is pure junk, but that hasn't been my experience. I purchased it on sale for $9, and really its been exceptionally adequate for the last 3+ years. Ultimately, its a TOASTER. It won't do much to change your life outside of toasting your bread (I can't say I understand the need for $50 toasters). Bread goes in and comes out all toasty and warm, dark or light depending on the dial-- and for that I would gladly purchase it again. I do not cook pop tarts or strudels or bunt cakes or whatever in it, so I can't comment on any of those uses. But its given me no reason to dislike it. My only issue is that you cannot easily 'abort' your toasting by flipping the lever up-- you have to wait for it to finish.

1-0 out of 5 stars Awful!
I got this as a gift when I graduated high school in June 2001. I didn't use it, however, until October 2002 when I got an apartment. From the start, I could tell it was a piece of junk. Almost EVERYTHING except bagels slips through, the crumbs just about start a fire (once, smoke was coming out), and it burns anything and everything to a crisp. Of course, this is providing you can get the side lever to stay down to start the toaster. I was overjoyed to toss this piece of junk in the trash the day I moved out! I will never buy Toastmaster brand again.

I was given this toaster. It is terrible. The knob fell off and it started to malfunction. The lever wouldn't stay down to start the toaster. It stopped working after 2 months. I had to toss it in the garabage & buy a different one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a good product. Might work well with bagels.
I was given this product for christmas(still my recommended method) in '02. (Okay, actually the T2000W, The only difference is that instead of saying "Light" and "Dark" on the darkness knob, it says "PopTart(R)" and "Dark" on the knob.)

There is no choice except to agree with the other reviewer on this. For a toaster that actually has PopTart's name printed on it you would think it would at least work with those. However, the "support bar" that you place the item to be toasted on is wavy, and not quite wide enough. Thus, when the sides close in (to help keep your toast upright) most of the time your toasts tips and the bottom slides off the support.

This has two effects. One is that the bottom of your toast gets horrifically burned. The other is that the return jams, and when your toast is done, it sticks in the bottom of the toaster. At least most of the time it does turn off!

This toaster MIGHT (i've never tried) work well with bagels, or with extra thick sliced bread. I buy standard breads, like earthgrains, that isn't thick slice, and it gets stuck sometimes too, but not nearly as often as pop tarts. That is practically every time.

*****Final Thoughts*****
If you are going to cook more than 2 pop tarts while you own your toaster, don't buy this one.

It would probably work just fine for something thick, but I've had very little other than frustration from this toaster. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars I am so sorry I bought this
This is an absolutely horrible toaster. Toasting anything takes multiple cycles, even at the darkest setting. Many pieces of bread have gotten stuck inside. The Pop-Tart setting is useless. After several weeks of use, the "cancel" button (which is supposed to let you pop the toast up manually) stopped working all together.

Do yourself a favor and don't go cheap buying a toaster. This one is just a complete waste of time and money. To paraphrase the Comic Book Guy:

Worst. Toaster. Ever.

1-0 out of 5 stars unsafe for poptarts
We have this toaster in the kitchen at work, and recently, I've taken to bringing in a box of pop-tarts to munch on. I was amazed (and a bit amused) to find that this toaster actually has a pop-tarts setting, and so instead of eating my pop-tarts raw, I tried it. Twice. The first time, the corner of my pop-tart got wedged in-between the heating element and the side when the toaster popped up. I managed to rescue 98% of my pop-tart, but I was unable to unwedge the corner. The second time, at least 5% of my pop-tart was wedged in places it shouldn't be, and the unit started smoking! I immediately pulled the plug and vowed to never use it again. The problem with this unit is the metal guides (both side and bottom) are spaced too far apart and no matter how careful you are when you place your precious pop tart, it shifts into a bad position. I imagine it might be a fine toaster for large items such as bagels, but, despite the brand name (complete with Kellog pop-tart font) setting just for pop tarts - this toaster is not made correctly for such a pastry.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worthless
It does work for bagels, although it does take forever.

The biggest problem is using this thing for regular bread and PopTarts (even though it has a special PopTart setting). The slots allow anything thinner than a bagel to fall through. This makes for quite a mess- the bread is constantly chopped in half when the trays pop back up.

I would not recommend this toaster to anyone.

3-0 out of 5 stars Looks good, toasts slow
I purchased this toaster to use at the office for toasting my breakfast bagel. My biggest gripe is that it takes about 4-5 minutes to toast a bagel to golden brown. Also, when the heating stops, the bagel doesn't always pop up automatically.

The bagel feature works by pressing a button after you have started the heating process. This turns off the outside elements, so you can get the inside of the bagel brown without burning the outside. I tend to use this near the end of the cycle, otherwise the outside of the bagel won't be crisp.

The style of 2035W is attractive and the price is fair, but I wish it worked faster.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very displeased
I was going for low price, so it is my own fault. This toaster toasts unevenly, won't toast well after the first two pieces once it gets hot, and the toast doesn't stay down when the lever is pushed. I am very unhappy with my purchase. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Even for the low price it is NOT worth it.
Looking for a simple toaster that would simply toast bread, I bought this piece of junk. You have to press on the handle several time for the machine to hold the bread and toast it.
Needless to say that it is pointless to try to adjust the lightness/darkness of the bread. This toaster is simply a total waste. I have never seen that. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Toastmasters are bad
I have had 3 different Toastmasters & 2 out of three are bad toasters I started with a two slice toaster & it went out after a lot of use & about 7 years I thought it was a good toaster so when it went out I went out & bought a new Toastmaster cause I had good luck with the first one. When I bought the second one I again bought a two slice toaster it would not cook the toast right & it took for ever to get two slices of toast out of it so after two years I went out & bought a 4 slice toaster & its terrible the one side takes about 5 mins to cook the toast & the other side burns the toast yes they both have their owne settings one you have to have on dardest & it might brown the toast ok & that is the side that takes about 5 min to cook & the other one you might get ok toast out of it the first time & the setting is set real low but when you try to use it again I will burn the toast. So I have not been happy with toastmaster for a long time & would not tell anyone to get that brand. Thank you, Very Up set. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Toaster review
A piece of crap. Unless you like standing there and holding the handle down, forget this "toaster". One of the controls spins. Even the trash man won't take this piece of crap.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's a fairly decent toaster....
I've gotten two of these, one for me and one for a relative, and we've had no complaints. It does take longer to toast frozen waffles, but if you defrost them first like you're supposed to, then they toast them fine.
They heat up fast and the dials are easy to use. It's nice to have separate dials to toast different things at different settings too. The slots are extra wide for bagels too.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of Money
This is the most horrible toaster I have ever bought. The toast heats unevenly, making one side browner than the other. Not so bad if you dont mind turning your toast half way through the process. The really bad part is the knobs to release the toast broke after less than a week - both sides! Now my knobs are merely there for decoration, as they certainly dont pop the toast up, my toast still is overcooked on one side and not at all on the other - no matter what setting it is at. Needless to say, I will soon be buying myself a new toaster, and likely not this brand.

5-0 out of 5 stars A five-star review.
I have rated this toaster at 5 stars because it's cheap, and it works (after a couple of weeks of steady use). Had doubts upon reading some reviews, but I find this fits the bill perfectly. It is light-weight which some may find "cheap plastic". As for the bread staying down, I found the levers won't stay down if the toaster is not plugged in or, if it is plugged in, and the lever is set too close to the "cancel" area. Cancel is a nice feature if you decide you can't wait or the toast is getting to dark for your taste! SO, cut to several months later! Toaster still working fine -- only thing I could as for is an automatic built-in vacuum to eliminate the crumbs!!!!!! Hey, if you're gonna wish, wish big!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Bagels don't fit :-(
I bought this toaster about a year ago. It is good for toast and frozen waffles - and only good. The settings are not accurate and not consistant on both sides; put it on 2 for toast and 2 slices will be darker than the other 2... also, the front and back sides are not done evenly. Today, the right side quit popping up. Even on a low setting the side that won't pop up, it just keeps cooking until you smell it burning. Not durable, not very useful, does not cook consistant left side to right side slices. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Advertisement on an appliance ?
I am looking for a new toaster and would not buy this simply because of the word "POP TARTS" on it! Appliances with ads now? Give me a break! What's next? I saw one in the department store and people had attempted to scratch it off. I say just don't buy it and send the message to the ad execs.

1-0 out of 5 stars Joke
Doesn't toast anything evenly. Small things get stuck in it. Lever never pops items all the way up. Terrible bagel toaster, sometimes have to toast bagels 3 times to get them toasted. Sorry I bought it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Inconsistent
I bought this because I have a great older cheapy Toastmaster toaster that does a great job --- on old style, standard size bread. But it's not large enough to handle the new larger sizes common today, and I figured I'd get a 4-toaster while I was at it.

I don't know what happened to Toastmaster, or if the other brands are any better, but this one suffers from the fatal flaw of not toasting the slices consistently. Depending on 2 or 4 slices, and it seems sometimes what size the slices (i.e. the smaller endpiece or a thicker middle slice), I get different degrees of browning.

Also, you have to turn the thing almost all the way up to get any browning, and then there's a small window between "brown" and "black".

Further, though it's got wide slots (for bagels I guess), and it has wire thingy's to squeeze together for regular bread, they still don't really do the job for standard bread slices, so it never comes out straight.

And finally, the latching mechanism requires firmness to get it to stick. You can't just toss in a couple slices, bat the handle down and go on to something else --- you've got to stop and deliberately press and hold then double check to be sure it's latched.

This was the only toaster I found that had slots big enough for today's 6" slices, but I'll keep looking. ... Read more
